Bad@Thief: Kiera Gordon
Sea of Sorrows, a server never before so appropriately named.
The world bosses are frankly about learning “the stove is hot”. If you die a few times figuring out the mechanics yourself that is one thing. If you die constantly to them over an extended period then…I got bad news…
why do elementalist have 20 weapon skills while everyone else (except engineer) have 10 weapon skills?
Because cool downs.
OP has literally no experience with online MMOs it seems…
Remember when the Toxic arc started and you had that PS style instance? They really need to make playable/replayable versions of every LS update like that so people can experience the LS update even if they missed it for whatever reason.
I think the ultimate problem with combos and fields is that most players have no idea wtf they are doing when they are using their skills. There is NO teaching method in the early levels of ‘This is a field and this is how it is used’ and ‘This is how you synergize with the various finishers’. Instead, they are taught to spam mindlessly and then they get dropped into group work without knowing how to properly work with others. The amount of times where I have tried might stacking on my elementalist, only to have some poison field or water field thrown down, ruining my ability to make things run smoother and quicker…I have lost count.
There needs to be a newbie crash course or something added way early in the game for new players to understand what is going on.
Coming from that perspective the worst possible thing you could do then is throw a fairly useless field into an AutoAttack chain kitten .
That stupid light field is the reason I don’t bother with the Hammer on my Guardian.
Fresh air is only usable with scepter so i dont think any decent player is using DD + Fresh air.
SD – Fresh Air
DD – CantripThere is no other decent build for ele actually.
He didn’t specify which mode so how would you know?
DD Fresh Air is fine, DF is better though in PvE.
Sorry but other GM traits are far superior and cant drop them for any of those ones. Besides, almost all of them are not stronk enough to be a gm trait.
This thread isn’t about comparing the new traits to the old traits, it’s about ranking the new traits amongst themselves…
ok, serious question,
why sentinel armor? (or dire armor in the reddit post)
wouldn’t a settler or apothecary pieces be better ?
healing power affect regen gained from “shadow protector” trait, shadow rejuvination trait and shadow refuge utility.
The build seems more centered around res’ing downed allies which does not scale with healing power (making investing in healing power to that end pointless) and providing damage mitigation with Resilience in Shadows.
I would consider this build more of a “triage expert” than a “healer”.
Killing faster is part of survivability though, that’s how Zerker works in PvE…
I said “sustain”, not “survivability”. Subtle but important difference between those two things.
Sustain is an aspect of survivability, it is also a largely marginal and optional part. It is compensating for a shortcoming, the shortcoming being low damage output.
Killing faster is part of survivability though, that’s how Zerker works in PvE…
That kind of meta shift will simply not occur until mob AI’s become smarter and make full zerker much riskier.
Is this a reality show?
“Ele’s Gone Wild: Fun Times with Little Knives”
So many cat fights going on in the forums today. Is everyone cranky on the ele forums?
When is the Ele forum NOT cranky though?
Just wait for our happiness to come off CD though before we have to blow through all our Cantsads before the next patch.
Amazing. The term which sounds like “Bast hard” is what I was trying to type when the sensitive text filter attacked my words and turned it into a harmless, mewling baby cat.
Tell me about it. You can’t even name the Venetian armory and shipworks without the filter going spastic on it.
I find two parts of this OP rather funny…
Elementalist: Elemental switch. Well, I like the idea and it is a great mechanic and used always.
Attunement swapping is just a lazy way for the devs to balance individual skills and throw long CDs on everything instead. It’s also not much of a benefit unless you are throwing a bunch of points into Arcana or running Fresh Air.
Ranger: Pet. Is always there, it is not just the F2. Extra damage and no time where you would just not use the pet at all.
The recent Ranger CDI could have been subtitled “Think Tank on Reducing the Harm Pets do to the Ranger Class”. If there was a more frustrating and less useful class mechanic than Ranger pets, I can’t point it out.
Whoa whoa whoa!
FIVE more skills on hand?
BETTER INCREASE ALL COOLDOWNS 75 PERCENT IF THEY HIT AND 120% IF THEY DON’T!Fixed that for you.
Oh but ofc! Hold on…need to make one more change….there we go!
You know what I’d like to see?
Ways to reliably craft all the stat types without time gating or LS specific requirements.
But I suppose…
Major/Minor/Minor
Vitality/Power/Precision
Whoa whoa whoa!
FIVE more skills on hand?
BETTER INCREASE ALL COOLDOWNS THIRTY PERCENT!
Oh boy, I really hope the devs plan to go over this mega server thing in way more detail in the livestream. As its looking, my highly limited and fixed window of gameplay is going to screw me.
Many of these changes look like huge goldsinks too. Not liking it…
Priority is indeed a big topic. The Pact’s priority is the Elder Dragons. My personal priority is to protect the people. These two goals are definitely related, but they are vastly different.
If the Pact insist on limiting itself to only dealing with the Elder Dragons, then I do have to depart from this organization (if Anet gives me this option). I cannot stand by while watching civilians dying from other threats, knowing full well that we could have done better.
Your character is not limited by the Pact to not act, you still have your order.
It’s not even about priority in general, there are ALWAYS bad things happening to innocent people all over Tyria. It is literally impossible to deal with them all at the same time. This is some bizarre savior complex you have going on here.
I find it funny you didn’t actually refute Obsidian’s complaint in the slightest. Obsidian’s complaint is that it was not canon in GW1, but only came about with GW2. You reinforce this by only referencing GW2 era material.
Humans have horses and ponies. Why would they need centaurs as mounts? :P
There are no horses and ponies in Guild Wars aside from a few off mentions AFAIK.
“We want to create diversity!”
“How so?”
“By making more traits! But that are less useful!”
“O-oh…oh-kay…”
The difference is the thief is unable to attack and maintain stealth at the same time.
How long until humans start riding centaur into battle as part of a self-preservation pact?
I would take a centaur mount into battle against the ogres.
Kodan seem to be stable. They are hardy and nomadic. Furry Norn kind of…
The Quaggan are pretty much useless. They’d probably be best served integrating into neighboring communities for protection since they seem unable to defend themselves.
Hylek are actually crazy numerous. Keep in mind there are large populations of Hylek near Rata Sum and the Pale Tree who haven’t been driven off by Zhaitan’s minions.
“Removing Restrictions”? More like “Removing Expectations”!
Terrible joke aside. It doesn’t look like we are going to get any help with the terrible access to crafting certain stat sets.
Charr are cats, cats largely fear water, this r fact.
Quaggan defense is best anti-cat defense.
Oh, I wasn’t replying to you, I was replying to CHIPS. It’s just you responded as I did and I didn’t feel like editing in a bunch of quotes lol
idk, I think with the great collapse they determined they couldn’t build much there anyway so they made some pretty reinforcements to the area and simply changed it from being an unusable eyesore to a minimally useful fair ground.
Also yea, I’m having flashbacks to FFX-2 here imaging Kasmeer going “Logan! A Daddy!”.
Yea, today and yesterday’s blog posts have kind of been a let down in comparison to the hype. Really, they could have wrapped up last weeks and this weeks blog posts together. I think it’s the livestream schedule they want to do that’s made the posts this week seem so weak.
-How exactly do we know that there is no need for Airships in Orr? I’d love for that to be elucidated on as apparently Tequatl is still around and kicking post-Zhaitan.
-The Pact’s job is not to take the forces allocated to them for fighting dragons and use it for their own goals and purposes.
-Why would it be a better idea to park Pact airships outside LA against the wishes of the Captain’s Council when Orr is still overrun with undead (likely still the dragons as well), the Jormag is pushing South, and the Shatterer is spitting distance from major population centers?
-German tanks weren’t actually better than Russian ones. Early on in many ways it was a toss up but as the war went on there was great disparity in design philosphy. The German’s also did not emphasize tank production and long term design until they were going into Russia. Before then the Wehrmacht still played a second fiddle to the Luftwaffe. Additionally, Russian and German tactics were very similar. They both developed their armor divisions in the 30s working together and cut their teeth against each other in the Spanish Civil War.
-The only way Pact airships reach LA in time to have any affect on the situation is if they are already there. Sitting around. Parked. Doing nothing. When they threat that they are intended to fight is still out there and very much visible and requiring attention.
-Oh god, why does this have “waste billions of dollars looking for goat farmers with AK’s!” written all over it.
If it was the Pact vs Aetherblades, attrition is indeed a very valid tactic. THE PACT have much more land and resources. So it is valid to take advantage of that
Hey guys, the Pact is apparently a land holding nation.
My tip on the Queen: Queen Jennah is actually hostage of the shining blades.
No please,! I need some good guys still running in DR. As for now Reading all the posts i only trust Seraph under Logan command and shining blade as solid Royal guards
its beginning to be too realistic with “the world doesnt come in just black and White” scenarios. Let the Hollywood spirit with clear good guys bad guys flourish in Tyria
/Caudecus is the good guy
Ultimate twist.
He’s not actually bald.
Wasn’t there a theory floating around for awhile now that Jenna is an illusion cast by Anise?
Isn’t Queen Jenna like 29 or something?
Ele needs some of its cool downs reevaluted before we do something like take a hitpoint dump.
Exactly, playing personal story is like going back and watching an old recording of your first grade play. its real life, it still happened, but its locked in the past; that’s personal story. whereas the you that puts down the old recording to go on doinging other things in you life, that’s the present, that’s living story. and just because you take a moment in the presnt to watch events from your past, doesn’t mean your past occured in the present. Its not that hard to draw out the events in your mind, then seperate and organize them to how they should be, what order they are meant to flow in, rather than the order you played them.
In a similar fasion the pretrillogy for star wars, simply because it was released after star wars, nobody is under the misconception that the events take place after the fall of the empire. Or if the first movie of a series you watch is the sequal, and you go back later to find out what happened prior by watching the first, is that not easy to conceptualize a timeline?
That still doesn’t excuse how it’s a terrible delivery of exposition.
NPC: Hey there, dragonslayer!
PC: Eh? I just woke from the pale tree; only dragon I’ve killed was inside a dream.
That’s a bit more on the issue of custom interactions programmed in the game.
Since they don’t really have that deeply implemented they can only have a few pre-arranged responses. In the game timeline Zhaitan was killed in 1325. It is now 1327 (I think) so the game world treats all characters as if they’ve finished the PS campaign for dialogue. At least, in zones updated to current time.
Guard, warrior, mesmer, ele, etc, all have access to long duration stability.
Really!? The class with the LOWEST health and Armor and HIGHEST cool downs of defensive skills and you think they have too much?
Armor of Earth – 6 second Duration. 90 second cool down.
Rock Solid – 20 point trait. 2 second duration. 10-13second cool down.
Earth’s Embrace – 10 point trait. 6 second duration. 90 second cool downYeah, you are right. For the class with some of the worst defensive skills, that is just to much access and look at those cool downs only 90seconds! what a disgrace.
#elepocalypse
awww. That means no playable hyleck :*(
>Living Story Chapter 3
>Hylek “Potion Makers” flood city streets with their “product”.
>You have to stop the Hylek “tribes” before they destabilize society.
You are free to be anything you want in gw2 human world. As long as it implies being young and beautiful.
Not true, you can be an old person. I think.
→10 pts in Arcane for Renewing Vigor
→10 pts in Fire for Conjurer
→Spam Lightning Hammer autoattack.
Easiest set up right there if your goal is fast and easy leveling.
You don’t really have enough points to exploit some of the “classic” elementalist traits like Elemental Attunement (20pts in Arcane) or Cleansing Water (20pts in Water).
Alternatively, read up on what combos are and try using them.
Ex:
Staff:
(For might)Churning Earth→ Lava Font → Arcane Wave
(For swiftness) Churning Earth → Static Field
(For Regeneration) Churning Earch → Geyser/Healing Rain
Staff is pretty easy for getting an idea of how to use combos and you will eventually use combos.
God would I love for us to have polearms. It was a huge disappointment to me when I started playing and discovered we only had underwater polearms.
I also wish we had more realistic weapon handling too.
We could branch off with soo many different sub-types of weapons for specific skillsets in the 1-5 bar.
Also, for the interested.
I don’t agree with making it personalized depending on whether you have or haven’t killed zhaitain, that breaks the timeline if you haven’t. as a player on a new character you must simply concepualize that living story occures after the personal story you have yet to complete.
I’m not sure why it is that LS’s timeline is so inviolable that it has to intrude on other parts of the game. For example: https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/137008/gw771.jpg
Are we to accept that LS is the only part of the game that matters, and anyone wanting to play other aspects must be given sub-par treatment? Add this to the list of “kitten you”s to people that consider buying the game.
You need to understand that it’s not about the “LS” timeline. It’s the “current” timeline. When you play the Personal Story it’s already long past happened. The PS is set in time, the open world reflects the present. It is not a hard concept.
The difference is that Elder Dragons are extinction level events where Scarlet and her armies were more akin to a coalition of rogue states.
Shouldn’t you still be able to get them from the Aetherblades in the Aetherblades bases around? Assuming those are still around.
What is it with people and not understanding that every trait line is getting new traits and they only previewed one GM per profession?
I don’t understand why the PR team think this GM trait would be the most appealling to elementalist’s players as a feature.
Imo, It goes against the vast majority of elementalist’s players claim and deserve the purpose for wich it’s showed to us.
Really?
You cannot fathom why they would preview the trait that is the strongest version of a new mechanic?
This is all bizarre and nonsensical to you?
They did it to preview not just one new trait but also a new mechanic at the same time.
“The Sigil of Sanctuary, which had extremely limited usability, has been renamed and re-worked, becoming the Sigil of Benevolence. This new sigil will grant bonus healing to other allies similar to how the elementalist’s new trait, Aquatic Benevolence, will function.”
So, not only do we get a terrible trait. EVERY other class will have the same access to it via a sigil…
Amazing work anet, truly clueless.
Why are you surprised?
They said both that “this trait contains a new mechanic” and that it “has the highest of all outgoing healing effects currently in the game”. It seems to be implying (and now confirmed) that this mechanic is not going to be limited to a single trait.Still dose not make it any less of a new mechanic just something else has some effect like it and more then likely it will be a great deal weaker then the ele version. So yes what they said is true and what your trying to imply has nothing to do with what they said.
English?
What exactly is wrong in what I said? What is it exactly that you are saying?
>This is a new mechanic
>This ele trait will be the most powerful version of it upon release.
That’s what they said, that’s what I posted here. What are you saying?
(edited by Lostwingman.5034)
Why don’t they just go with the easiest solution: nerf the stats a lot more while downscaling so that taking a level 80 character using all exotic gear into Queensdale has the same level of challenge in killing mobs as going into Cursed Shore. If you can’t one or two shot mobs in Cursed Shore, then why should you be able to do it while downscaling in Queesdale? If the level of challenge is the same, regardless of zone, then maybe the population will spread out a little more.
The problem with going to Cursed Shore isn’t that the mobs are too hard. It’s that it’s almost impossible to traverse it without constantly getting hit with control effects and conditions. It’s annoying as hell, so without incentive people avoid it. What is so hard about this concept to people. Annoying != Fun, so people avoid Annoying.
Buying traits on the gem store for example is a new possible option
Where the hell do people even come up with this stuff from?
Seriously, aren’t you embarrassed typing something so ridiculous out in public?
