"Play How I Want" Is Gone

I always wonder about people that always brings up the whole “Play as you want” thingy.

Where would you draw the line?
Should I be allowed to sit around in DR and chat all day and get everything in the game? If not, why not? Maybe that is how I want to play? Shouldn’t I, based on your adamant stance on the play as you want statement, be allowed to do just that and still get everything in the game?

This is a disingenuous argument and you know it. And you’re doing this on purpose to try to lessen the legitimacy of constructive criticism. People are asking to view A vista, not one in Kryta or do 4 events in general, not just in Iron Marches. The amount of effort to obtain rewards has not changed (only the location said effort is taking place in )whilst still allowing people a choice. It’s a completely reasonable compromise. But you’re being purposefully hyperbolic and trying to equate things that are in no way shape or form equal.

  • As with everything, this is a voluntary activity. Nothing requires a player to do this. No one “needs” one of these tonics to play. But if they want one, they now have a means to get it.

You know what? No one “needs” to play this game. People do so for fun. And they just might want one of the tonics for fun. But crazy RNG really isn’t fun for the majority of people.

I do know of one entity that needs something though. ANet needs customers. But hey, go ahead and tell them how they don’t need anything in the game, because that will help.

I do realise this is a bit of a pointed and strong post, but I really found your response and reasoning to be pretty unhelpful and ignoring the ever-present problems with RNG and awards in this game. :/

Nothing is about need considering we don’t even need to play this game. It’s all about fun.

Currently, you can get a stack of consumables from 6/7 wintersday transformations on the tp for less than 20 silver. If you plan on having fun with the transformation all year round, just buy a stack. It takes as much space as the permanent one and seems to be way less hassle to obtain. So there really isnt a functional need to get the 5 single endless toy tonics, just get a permanent toymaker tonic and a stack of gift dolyak and you got 6/7 transformations covered for a year or beyond with only 2 inventory slots.
As great as some people might find the chritmas box tonic from the collection achievement, I can hardly see anybody getting more than a couple of hours of fun out of it over the year. If its too much hassle to you to complete this achievement to have 5 hours of fun next year, you shouldnt do it. As you said, you seem to have better things to do in game than “grind” wintersday for the tonic, so I am confident that you will also find something else to occupy yourself with in the game next year for an additional 5 hours.

Aaaand “whoooooosh” goes the point over your head.

The scoring that works against multiple of the same class is working… there just are so many it can’t hold back the flood.

It was immediately obvious what problems the profession-specific dailies were going to cause. I’m not sure how you guys didn’t see it. All the dailies need to be much more broad, but especially pvp.

“I want to get a legendary by just farming Queensdale. Anet will not allow me to do this. How dare they not let me play how I want.”

But getting legendary by just farming Queensdale is possible. Might take a while though.

“But I want it now!”
“I should not have to grind to get what I want!”

The point being that certain players pigeon-hole themselves to only certain content and then are upset when they are not rewarded like those that are willing to experience all content.

Seriously what is up with you people who take “I want choice” and twist it into “I want everything handed to me just for logging on”. It’s dishonest. You know that’s not what people are saying so stop trying to make it seem like they are.

I definitely agree that the choices feel restrictive, hopefully they tweak them a bit for future dailies. Overall I think players will be satisfied, as this change is exactly what a lot of us asked for.

We can hope. I think really this is all most people are asking for: less restrictive activities. I think largely people are happy with the new reward structure. It’s just the restrictive choices that are casting an ugly shadow on it all. All the new system needs is some tweaks, with dailies that can be completed in any zone rather than just one.

I reckon the change is awesome, boggles my mind (okay not really) that people are actually complaining about a system that requires less work and more rewards. Then again some people just like to complain.

It boggles my mind that people don’t bother to read the constructive criticism being offered by posters here and instead assume wrongly they understand said criticism, then complain about other people complaining.

This is understandable, but we do have a choice between a number of activities that are inherently fun and/or rewarding. So far, the benefits of this change far outweigh the inconvenience caused.

I respectfully disagree. If today’s dailies were 1. View a vista, 2. gather at 4 nodes, 3. complete a fractal, 4. complete 4 events, 5. win 1 pvp game, etc that would offer many, many more choices for players. This would make the daily much less of a chore to complete as people could go to the part of Tyria they like best.

It would be a fair compromise which would lead to an overall more satisfied player base. Those of you that are happy with the dailies as they are now wouldn’t see any change really, but those who don’t like it dictated to go to ‘X’ zone for specific ‘X’ thing would enjoy the returned freedom to play how/when/where they like.

It’s about choice.

You must not be experiencing what I’m talking about at all.

When you’re on the way down the candy cane stick, AFTER the snowman, you hear a skritt yell “attack!” or “get it!” or something like that, and if you do not dodge or are too early/late, ALL of your health is gone except like 600 hp. This is before you even get to where the boulder is rolling. There is no red ring which appears on the stick.

Maybe you need to do it a few more times or something, cause it sounds like you’ve only done it once or twice this year and something might have been changed.

Lol hardly. Made it past that point more than “one or twice”. Maybe you need to improve on recognising the patterns as besides my perception of the time allowance to work through that section possibly being decreased, nothing changed regarding the skritt attack patterns. Or maybe stop standing there waiting on the candy cane.. again.. patterns…

Prize for the worst one so far: complete a level 11-20 fractals. The sheer terrible thought process that decided that should get anywhere near a list shows how out of touch whoever thought of it is.

Quite true. There’s just no reason for it to not be: complete a fractal run. I rarely, rarely run 11-20 anymore. I do run 50 nearly daily and often 40 daily as well. Why can’t that count?

Lothirieth.3408

And how about a player who does everything right the first time and makes it past the presents? They have no way of knowing a skritt is about to throw ice at them and knock almost all their health off, do they? The only warning is “attack!!!” being yelled. Yeah, dodge when you hear it, but they wouldn’t think anything of it. It’s pretty unfair.

And as I said before, you can get some bad luck with boulders going and then 1-2 red rings appearing right after it passes, so then you have to wait for the next one to pass. The red rings are too wide to make it all the way across.

I just told you: they’re not random. There’s zero unfair about the bit you’re complaining about.

You’ve made it past the presents.. watch out for the blowing wind from the snowman. If you see a short bust of wind, immediately after comes a long one. You run down the candy cane. If the ice ball has just passed, you’re clear to continue on and immediately jump to the side onto the candy platforms on the right… otherwise wait for iceball to pass, then go to the candy platforms.

As soon as the next iceball passes jump back, horizontally, as the skritt will be putting down a red circle. Less than a second worth of waiting and the ice blast has hit and you continue on around the corner to immediately run up the bigger piece of candy that’s sitting sloped. Another iceball will pass, as soon as it has immediately run forward and go to the little bit of candy on the left-hand side. Again, another iceball rolls by. Don’t immediately run forward but wait for the skritt’s attack to land, start running again once it has, jumping to the floaty bits of presents and candy before you’re crushed by the next iceball.

Like I said: not random.

There’s obviously a lot of misunderstandings going on in this thread due to each players’ specific idea of what the word ‘dailies’ encompasses. Some are just talking about the actual activities required, others are adding in the time factor required and even more are lumping in the rewards.

When reading the OP, it would seem the thing s/he dislikes and is discussing is the actual activities we must now do for the dailies. There was no mention of time spent or rewards. The OP’s dislikes echo my own.

I’m not very concerned if the new dailies are faster or not. I do find the AP change to be very welcome. I also enjoy the little additional rewards that come along with them.

But what I absolutely do not like is the specific nature of the dailies. We had this before and many people didn’t like it then. Why ANet do you think we’d like it now?

Personally I don’t want to be tied into going to specific areas, no matter the small time cost. I see no reason why the achievements cannot be more generic. Why must I go to Kryta and specifically gather wood? What’s wrong with gathering anything anywhere? Why can’t I visit a vista anywhere in the world? I’m happy to do a world boss, just maybe not specifically the Jungle Wurm that day. I’m also happy to complete events, but please don’t make go specifically to Queensdale.

Even if the new dailies are quick, the specific nature of them will turn them quickly into feeling like a chore, rather than something that is completely organically through one’s normal play time. The new system regarding rewards is great. Just make the achievements much more broad. That’s a happy middle ground for everyone.

The giant snowballs aren’t as bad as the random skritt and icy blasts knocking off health, and the red rings on the ground that are too wide to dodge all the way from one side to the other. If you’re forced to wait too long you just die.

Those aren’t random. They’re the same pattern as the past two years.

But, it did feel like we’ve even less time to navigate that area this year. There’s very little room for error on the last stretch. You can only wait for 1 extra snowball or the 1st icy wind from the snowman. Waiting a second time for anything isn’t really possible. Maybe I’m remembering incorrectly but I seem to remember that last stretch being a bit more generous. I’d usually have more health left at the end than I do now.

Erm, you can bind two different keys to each of those. Have your secondary as the number keys so you can play the choir bells like a piano. No need to change your primary key binding.

I don’t really care if it’s ‘quick and easy’ today. After a while, just like when they had such specific stuff before, ‘quick and easy’ will turn into a chore you tire of doing. Zone/event specific dailies aren’t the way to go. It is much better for dailies to be possible to complete around the entirety of Tyria.

So you’re assuming that creating 10-15 new maps will not take much time? You’re expecting new races, classes, traits, utilities, etc to not take much time either? I’m not saying it’ll take the entire length that it took to create GW2 but to expect all of this within a year or two timeframe doesn’t make much sense.

Then tell me why other companies are able to produce expansions in about a year? All with new classes and skills and big new maps, along with dungeons and raids? (and often small updates in between?) And you think I don’t make any sense. Thanks for the laugh.

This.

I had really been looking forward to completing these new ingame armors, but I am seriously questioning if I’ll be able to stick out the slow crest acquisition and needlessly horrible RNG for mordrem parts, compounded by needing to do each boss a minimum of 12 times even if you were lucky and got the parts first try.

Oh, you already have all Legendaries, collected all (obtainable) mini’s, completed all collections, filled up your wardrobe and completed every achievement in the game then?

You’re playing semantics (oh the surprise that you’d do so…..) and it’s unhelpful and patronising. If a person has 100% map completion, done all personal stories, done plenty of days of WvW, spvp, done every dungeon/fractal, all world bosses incluing Wurm and Tequatl, then it’s quite reasonable for them to say they’ve done everything in game as it’s pretty obvious they’re talking activities. A new map or a new dungeon would be “new things” for them. Whilst your definition of gathering ever single thing in game and completing every achievement isn’t wrong regarding ‘doing things’, it isn’t the only correct definition.
