Epilepsy Warning For Scarlet Hologram Fight
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

So that’s what this is. I thought it was a graphical bug as I get it at the Dwayna fight sometimes.
This is something that would be lovely if it got fixed. Really hurts the eyes and makes it hard to see what’s going on on the screen.
First go after the patch, I got loot from red, blue but not green. The next round I only got loot from blue. I was in a party with a guildmate. I’m a warrior, meleeing with greatsword…I should be doing more than enough damage.
Confirmed on Gandara as well. The Prime Hologram goes invulnerable when it should be splitting into the three holos.
Ofc it is possible…do not ask me how. I can only speak for my server, i’ve done it twice and the second time was noticeable better.
You did it for real? As a guildie got the achievement when it was soooo very past the 6 min mark.
The problem is the lack of stuff to try to attain in game. Store-only skins aren’t a problem and I know ANet needs to make money. But a healthy balance bewteen skins earned in a challenging dungeon would lessen the money-grab feeling of only cool new stuff being in the store.
If the menders things is indeed true, the event needs to give a smidgeon of a hint regarding needing to kill them.
I’ve not a clue what you all are on about. I just completed the boss fight and final instance with Scarlet and I don’t own one of those back pieces. There is no gear gating that I’ve experienced.
The main purpose of the TP is to facilitate the ease of transferring unwanted goods to others and subsequently to obtain goods that you value more than others or have trouble obtaining in the open world. The TP does this excellently.
A side effect of a large, fluid, and dynamic market is that it allows those with time and knowledge to profit off it. This is a small price to pay for the many benefits the TP provides to the rest of the player base.
I agree. It’s too late to go back and edit my post but to add to it, I would say I’m largely thankful for it as well, even in the huge disparity it can create. I’m able to easily sell my goods for what they’re worth as one can immediately find an item’s current value. I’m also able to place buy orders and save myself money. It’s a very accessible auction/trade system for the majority of people.
The problem isn’t the TP or flippers as those exist in every game. The problem is the reward structure I think. Far too much of item acquisition involves paying for components to make an item either through crafting or the forge. I’m used to MMOs where the people wearing best-in-slot items earned them through playing for the most part and not standing at the TP or staring at spreadsheets. It’s actually my biggest beef with the game. I’d rather earn cool gear through playing and not randomly grinding money through dungeons or gathering in order to pay for things. Flipping is something I just can’t and won’t do. I find it a wholly boring activity and nor am I good at it. But with the whole real-life money to gems to gold system, this won’t be changing and TP players will always unfortunately be on top, which is completely backwards to me.
Well, that broad statement I can immediately disprove: I would do it.
And I think you’re underestimating the number of folks who play this game not as two-legged fiscal sharks, but relatively sedate social animals who would be perfectly happy to pass on specialized drops at a ‘token price’ as long as they knew the other person actually wanted it and didn’t just see them as a altruistic sucker in need of a good fleecing.
This. This, this! Very well said. I would use an option like that every single time, no question. I’d much rather sell to someone I know will actually use the items rather than wonder if someone else is going to try to turn around and make more profit off it down the road. I wouldn’t say I dislike or disapprove of economic PvP, but I really dislike that those who partake in it and are successful are able to get much more cooler stuff than the rest of us. This has always been a ‘thing’ in every game, but this TP seems to facilitate it even more and to extremes due to the ease of buy orders… or at least that is this economy noob’s perception. I’m too used to games where the best stuff was earned through playing, not paying.
Said friend I spoke of earlier got another several precursors.. and Dawn and Dusk being two of those AND got them back to back. His luck is, well, insane.
Edit: happened to get a whisper from him whilst writing this post: two more precursors, so that’s 11, yes ELEVEN in one day. Yet other people throw 1000 weapons in the forge and get nothing.
(edited by Lothirieth.3408)
Count me in as another one that’s slighty disappointed with this transparent version. It’s quite confusing why they didn’t make it an opaque gold. And that’s not even getting into the problems of needing to reapply it.
If I was wearing my tin foil hat, I’d wonder if those people who spend a lot of real life money on gems have more “lucky” accounts. :P I know one person who has gotten loads of precursors from the forge. He gambles a lot of money, but always comes out on top. I know he’s also spent tons of money on the game for lots of gemstore stuff. Then there’s me, who has far too many hours played since launch who has never seena precursor drop. But again, tin-foil-hat stuff as I said. :P

I actually like Rata Sum for crafting as it’s all much closer to the TP.. but problem is, no forge. Then the vigil keep has everything fairly close.. but no crafting. Given how the forge can play a role in some crafting recipes, these two amenities shouldn’t have been split up imo.
This is why the “crafting is available in other cities” argument doesn’t fly for me.
This is not a one off occasion, this is becoming the norm now. Where it first came to light was during the Nightmare Tower where scores of people were left for dead. I’ll accept a one off, it happens.
Maybe its just my server or the overflows I end up in, I don’t know.
I don’t think you can use the Nightmare Tower as an example as stopping to rez there practically guaranteed death for yourself as well. I learned that quite quickly when trying to help people. Usually I’d try for a bit, but often it was too difficult and had to make a run for it in order to not die as well.
Same could be said of some of the LA events. Sometimes it’s safe to rez, sometimes it’s not.
Still bugged for me as well.

i have done all archivments but one. I still need one more for the Please Follow Me To The Exit Achievement…
Lawson Marriner…
Hes buggy on my mainserver. Just standing there and not moving and on overflow he wont appear…
pls fix this!I saw him spawn when he was supposed to and promptly die in seconds when a ton of mobs plus a champion spawned on him. No idea how one is supposed to save him from that.
Is that the one near the lighthouse? I read that you need a group of players standing by at spawn ready to defend because it gets serious fast.
No, he spawns close to the Lion Fountain (right by a miasma event.)
That’s no longer a valid excuse when older titles like LOTRO and STO continue to add free permanent content in expansion like patches every year sometimes twice a year. They are just as F2P as GW2 is the difference is they haven’t given up on improving and they haven’t thrown out useless temporary content that goes away after the 3rd month to keep people playing.
I’m sorry but huuuuuge LOL at you using Lotro as an example. Man, how that game has crumbled. But you’re absolutely completely wrong about it adding free content. You cannot access the new content in the form of expansions as those are paid. You must buy the expansion, even if you sub. They’re also now gating the epic quests behind the expansion as well. And new, stand-alone regions are only “free” if you sub or have a lifetime account. So very sorry, but what horrible and downright wrong example.

Where is he now?
Whilst it’s not a positive outlook, I’d never expect to receive explanation or patience in a pug… in any game. Sure it’s possible those things may happen, but it seems to be a rarity. That’s why I always try to find a guild in any game. It makes for nicer experiences on the whole.
And I dont see a reason to publish it here to make life easier for those, who prefer to come to the forums to complain about the issue instead of actually going out and do some dynamic events. Just because there is no little symbol called Linen on your Minimap doesnt mean that Linen is any less available than Platinum.
Ha! Typical and entirely expected.
That tells me that many people just sell their lootbags instead of opening themselves.
I’ve been opening mine after doing full TA runs and been walking away with like 5 scraps. Oh the loots!!!
It points towards that the player base is willing to pay 8s per scrap instead of farming it themselves. And the argument that its not reliably farmable is simply untrue.
I am really sick of this argument and so i went out to farm linen today. I got 57 in one hour hitting various mobs that drop salvage mats and loot bags that contain linen. I did this in my pvt wvw build.
I also got 43 scraps of cotton and 74 scraps of silk.
Then please, share your uber grind spot with the rest of us. And you were on a max level character as well I take it?
You know there’s something wrong when a rare drops and you’re disappointed that you didn’t get the common drop instead. — salvaging
I said something like this in guild chat the other day.. something to the effect of: does anyone else find it weird to now be disappointed when you get gossamer instead of silk?
And of course when you factor in linen, the whole situation is even more absurd. :P
I will love you forever if you can do this and something happens and the devs talk to us again like old times.
+1 to that.
Since Fractured. I haven’t really touched it since and the only change since then was fixing the exploit which I never used.
Er no, that was not the only change. You’ve just been told about other changes: can no longer die on the buttons as you’ll get moved off them when you do, plus adding even more respawning dredge to the bomb run.
It’s not helpful to be posting l2play comments when you’re not informed yourself.
Perhaps you should be more informed. Those changes occurred during the Fractured living story.
Then why did you say the only change was the exploit one?

I’d really love to hear from John Smith to see if he thinks 8 silver per scrap is acceptable for a t4 mat and something level 80s can’t reliably farm. Supply and demand, blah, blah, but considering how much more this costs than the other cloth, it points to something being wrong with its acquisition through playing the game.
30 Ranks isn’t hard.
Compare it with 100 Charged Lodestones.
Few days in WvW or 200G?
Yeah not a good argument. I know I can make 20g a day grinding dungeons, world events, ori/saplings and what not. It wouldn’t take an exorbitant amount of time to make that much money if one really wanted to (though yeah, it would be tiresome.) And fwiw, I’ve made two legendaries requiring 100 charged lodestones each with no TP flipping at all.
It really isn’t a matter of whether or not rank 30 is obtainable, easily or not. It is a question of why bother to put this additional restriction in place in the first place?
I’ve thought about this longer and I think they did it to replace the time spent on badge grinding. Think about how many hours it may have taken us to accumulate badges prior to them being in achievement chests. I’d wager it’s about the same amount of time to get rank 30.
Also, getting rank 30 is a lot less stressful than grinding badges was. You don’t have to run with a zerg and stress out over trying to tag everything, then being disappointed with drops. In fact you can actively avoid zergs and still get a rank an hour (at least in my experience.) Also you no nervewracking JP runs, hoping there won’t be some thief waiting to gank you.
This change will only encourage larger zergs, and encourage players to move to higher populated servers. There really was no reason to make this change.
I’m not so sure about that. There’s plenty of WvW xp to be had from killing sentries, taking camps.. and loads of opportunities for small groups in EotM now.
Whilst I’d rather not have to do anything in WvW for a legendary, I think this is a much more relaxed requirement than pre-achievement chest badge grinding was.
Except I have with my 80. Of course your definition of “decent” might be different.
So you’re able to get just as much linen as you do silk? (not that I’m complaining about getting silk as I need it!) I can’t say I believe you or perhaps your account is super lucky.
It wouldn’t be so bad if doing dailies/monthlies wasn’t such a huge portion of APs. Makes it quite rough on new folks. Really, all APs show is how much time you can spend in game and that you’ve not burned out ticking off all the little boxes. Very few of them out of the whole seem to require actual skill.
This seems overkill on top of the map completion and badges. I suppose I could conceed them wanting a bit of a rank, but 30 seems too high.
ANet and Colin need to start coming to grips with the fact that no, not all their players are in love with PvP.
As WvW is down leaving an hour or two’s wait until we can play this update, I explored a little…..
….And to me, the LA probe is still red…..I know the cutscene showed it green, but the probe itself, in the world, is still red….or is there more than one in LA?
It was green when I approached it, then turned and stayed red.
The problem is there is no reliable way to farm linen (or even silk, cotton and wool). You can’t expect players who are level 80 to enjoy farming lower level monsters with an abysmal drop rate, especially when the alternatives are better. What we need is a good alternative for farming cloths. I think this would solve a lot of the problems regarding this topic.
Also what Behellagh is forgetting is that you mainly get on-level drops. They changed that at some point. At the time it may have been a good change, but now it would seem it’s created another problem. A level 80 can’t go and smell the roses in a lower area as Behellagh thinks we all should and expect to come out with a decent amount of that tier cloth.
Argh, darn overflow population limits… wish I could have there.
Well done to all who participated.
Josh – it’s really refreshing seeing you defend a game having a variety of content for a variety of playstyles. The first MMO I played has actively driven off raiders and anyone who enjoys challenge. It’s great to have a dev who wants to keep adding some challenge to the game whilst also preserving that easy escapism playstyle as well. Thank you.
I wonder: did you happen to converse with those people who you deemed to have failed?
Deemed? If they kited warden two in wide circles, they most obviously did the wrong thing and did not pay attention to the mass amount of help that was given in map chat and during the fight. And yes, I’ve sent direct whispers to people who were not kiting that warden into its mines. That is the only fight where it is obvious what a person may be doing wrong and therefore be able to specifically help an individual. The others, it’s not so possible imo.
Did they perhaps spend 30, 40 seconds in a loading screen hitherto unheard of, and downed almost immediately, then tried to get up and orient themselves and got downed again? Did they have graphical issues (reports of the camera being a problem are about, and I’ve suffered that the once myself). If any of those are the cause, then having a go at the player(s) serves no purpose other than to decrease morale. Which in turn, adds to potential future failures. But I think I made that point already.
My previous post dealt pretty much wholly with warden two which is mostly free of these issues you’re listing. It is also, along with warden one, one that possesses the most straightforward tactics.
If it was their attempt for the first or second time, you must realise that not everyone has the inherent skills that others possess at their disposal. Have a little empathy. It is not necessarily their fault. Then again, it could be. If you don’t take a little time to privately and politely inquire afterward, then how do you know? Yeah, you’re putting yourself on the line if you do that, but if not, you’re assuming someone is guilty of something without having a chance to defend themselves.
Excuse me, but you don’t know me or what feelings I may or may not possess. Do not berate me and tell me to have empathy. I am completely understanding of different level of skills. Lack of knowledge of specific fights is completely forgivable as well. So is not immediately picking up on tactics. I don’t think it’s fair to expect people to go to Dulfy or something and read up on tactics. I do think it is fair however, to expect people to read map chat and pay attention to the guidance being offered there. When one sees warden two failed three times in a row or observe someone kiting in wide circles, that’s a pretty good indicator that they didn’t bother to read map chat and really, were not inclined to participate and work with people on the event.
I specifically mentioned only warden two because I believe that one is not very skill based. It’s really entirely knowledge based. Knowledge that is being disseminated in map chat. This is the only warden that I find myself frustrated with regarding failures as to me it demonstrates a few individuals completely ignoring all the help and tips others are going out of their way to give. (Or, as I mentioned, it could very well be people trolling.) Those failures demonstrate that no, it is not everyone’s fault as you were asserting, in my opinion. I never find myself frustrated, but only wistfully disappointed, regarding subsequent platform fails as I know those can be hard for people, even if they did pay attention to tactics. Heck, I’ve even died on warden 4 because of graphical bugs.
My post was providing possible causes for failure which many may not have considered, because there have been repeatedly cruel posts and map chat entries which are not warranted. They are pre-emptive attacks. This is what I’m taking issue with, and what the original intent, I believe, of this particular thread is.
And nor did I defend the cruel posts and attacks (I just believe that in a specific instance, responsibility can be pinpointed.) But nor were you being at all helpful by laying blame on every single person, especially those who continually go out of their way to help people in order to promote successful runs. In fact it is those people who very likely have considered all that you’ve listed and it is why they continually go out of their way. Get angry at the ragey folk, sure. But don’t berate everyone. That was the point of my post to you.
The more fails I see of the chain two warden, the more I’m convinced that it’s bad design for an open world event like this. The warden itself is not a bad design, on the contrary, I think it’s a good one.. but for controlled groups. It’s simply not a good idea to have an event where one player on each platform could possibly fail it for everyone by not knowing the kiting techniques and there being absolutely no way to control who the mob chooses to follow. Other games have mechanics like this but they also have tanks, who have the ability to grab and keep aggro.
We have an idea of where the average player is skill-wise, and placed the bar where we hoped would just a tad above that, in the hopes that they would have to stretch a bit.
Sadly it from my experiences it would seem the bar was set too high. .. which is a pity as I think the marionette fight is largely quite good. I think those of us who game a fair bit consistently misjudge what ‘average’ is regarding gamers because our little game world may possibly be that different. For us, switching utilities, understanding stats, paying attention to event text or map chat etc is very normal and expected. But I’m starting to think this isn’t the norm at all. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a very casual style of gaming, but I think when you start shoving that together with those who like challenge and pushing themselves, it’s going to create a fair amount of bad feelings from both sides. This is why I can’t help but feel GW2 needs some instanced content so that it caters to gamers at both ends of the spectrum.
I think there is some fault in developers when your game needs to be learned outside the game itself, search the internets to read the event and which weapon sets someone else decided are the best ones etc…
All this should be possible to be learned in-game. Or just design the entire game to be mysterious and to need to search stuff elsewhere.
But these things can be learned in game regarding the marionette. Each champ has a little bit of text underneath their vitals. How else do you think other people figured out how to beat them? Blind luck? No. They were attentive. They read what was going on regarding the event in the event text.
Failing looking at the champs or event status yourself, map chat is usually full of instructions, at least on my server and the overflows I’ve seen. The information is there. For some reason, a segment of the population is unable to utilise it or refuses to do so.
Who’s responsible for an event (specifically the marionette) failing?
I’m responsible, you’re responsible, we’re ALL sodding responsible. Yes, everyone taking part is at fault. Co-operation is the nature of this event.
No, just no.
Honestly your post is just the opposite extreme of those who rage over the fails. And a serious LOL about your ‘failure to communicate’ comment. I’ve never seen so much communication about a fight in map chat before.. up to 30 minutes before it starts and with constant constructive directions and tips during the fight. Loads of organising going on to get the correct numbers in each lane. Each warden being explained in detail before and during the fight. Instructions reiterated numerous times. Coaxing, motivating and encouraging each other, etc… yet I’ve still seen chain 2 failed three, yes three! times in a row on my server as of yesterday. That is blatant responsibility falling on the shoulders of specific people who are not cooperating with the group since it would seem they’ve completely ignored all the tips and instruction they were given.. or they’re outright trolling. There have been people going above and beyond. Yet you’re going to bad mouth those people and say they’re at fault too. Just, no.
(edited by Lothirieth.3408)
Warden 2 is what makes me sorta wish this game had a forced aggro mechanic. Why is it that it nearly always seems to follow the one or two people who don’t have a clue how to beat it and are unable to read the text below its vitals? :/
I agree! I could’ve gotten two achievements, but it took me 30+ seconds to load onto the platform during which time the marionette hits me, I’m assuming. I dodged everything nicely after I loaded, but didn’t get anything.
The loading screen issue is making very angry. I dodge everything perfectly whilst I can actually play, but it seems during the 20-30s loading screens I’m experiencing (have my graphic all set to low, recent deleted the dat file) I get hit by one of the attacks.
I finally was part of a successful marionette kill (yay!) but I couldn’t even get the cheering achievement because the marionette was gone before I loaded in!!!
It’s annoying to have such horrid game performance on low settings (seriously, my PC cannot be that bad for low settings) and this now also affecting my ability to complete achievements.
(edited by Lothirieth.3408)
I mostly agree with you OP. Really frustrating to finish your platform bit with almost a minute to spare, dodge all attacks and have to sit there and watch some other people fail their part of the event.
4/4/14 never forget
It’s cute how you think TESO is going to be the next mmo saviour and is using this as some jab/threat to Anet. Prepare to be disappointed! :P (seriously.. it’s very meh..)
I’m also enjoying the 10-20 second loading screen into the portals and when I finally do load, I load into a mass of red on the floor and promptly get smacked by the marionette.
So I don’t get hit, my platform is successful with its bit, but some other platform fails so I don’t get my achievement…
Seriously?
Sorry, but that is very poorly thought out. :/ Especially given this is temporary content.
This thread is clearly marked for PvP discussion.
Problem is, all these talks about changes affect PvE too.. such as the change to how death shroud works. Why they don’t completely separate spvp for proper balance is beyond me.
Whilst I agree the gold to gems conversion is expensive and does make certain items very expensive if you attempt to go that route, I can’t exactly complain about it. It’s the cash shop. They want people to spend real money on things. That’s the whole point of it. They’re nice enough to allow us to get things entirely through gameplay if we so choose with the conversion. They didn’t have to do that at all.
Considering a certain mmo that is doing way better and is more popular than Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have teleport waypoints littered all over the world.
Which MMO is that and does it rely heavily on dynamic events?
^ how do you even play the game normally, then of your keyboard is such a problem ?
One can change the keymapping of skills you know. I don’t use 6 whilst playing this game either. :P
