Mostly going to Tequatl is a waste of time, tagging a mob or two and having to wait out the timer. I don’t mind the achievement that asks you to do any world boss as that one actually gives you a choice.

Not only do you not get rewards for the chest after you get up there once, I just completed it to get the daily activity participation – I find the clocktower fun, so I figured let’s do that. It used to count, now it doesn’t. Is this another bug or someone’s bright idea of training strictness?

For me I’ve never gotten the daily participation credit for it until the very end when it starts announcing the winners. So no bugs for me.

But I will say it’s a bit daft that you have to stay through so many runs to get credit, unless you get lucky and get put in a map that’s just about to reset.

I don’t really understand why ANet feels the need to nerf the rewards for people who happen to be good at anything.

Whilst I still love the clocktower and find it fun, this makes me feel negative enough that I won’t keep running it as it’s an absolutely needless change. I had enjoyed being able to do something fun and earn the treatbags. I don’t want to zerg in the Labyrinth as we’ve had far too much zerg activities these past few months. I find the Lunatic Inquisition to be incredibly boring. So it looks like I’ll just stop doing much of anything for this Halloween even aside from the occasional run, getting fragments I don’t even want.

I think it’s a great change. The clocktower is not a race against other players but against the JP itself. There’s no single winner. Multiple people can finish the JP at the same time. This change makes it easier to see where one is going at the very beginning and I welcome it.

Has nothing to do with warriors. Its RNG based while being hit. While being hit while mining you have a chance of getting ruined materials.

I’m sorry, but you’re very wrong. Warrior traits that activate shake it off and balanced stance, if activated by a mob or even a temple statue, will result in the node being ruined EVERY time. It’s a bug that’s been reported for months. It is not RNG. It’s the same with other professions that have traits that have an action when activated.

I still very much enjoy the atmosphere and I still like the Clocktower. The first story instance was great. But the labryinth wasn’t even that fun last year. :P It was nice if you wanted some extra candy corn or treat bags and I enjoy its atmosphere as well (the conversations between the Mad King and his son are great) but really there’s not much too it. Then given the costs of rewards and not much new, yeah, people just won’t be as excited as last year when it was all new.

I was expecting the 20-slot bag to be a reward we could reasonably get one of, maybe a couple for those with a lot of time to play.

This is what I was expecting too. I wasn’t expecting it to be super cheap or easy but at least somewhat reasonable to obtain. I was pretty appalled when I saw the cost.

You weren’t meant to grind for candy corn in order to get the pail, you were meant to buy it off of the TP and take the millions of units out of the economy.

I get that. But I think they’ve made the quantity needed to be so extreme that they won’t be achieving their goal at all given it’s incredibly easier to craft a 20-slot bag or get them through fractals.

People have already responded, but no we all weren’t over inflating the difficulty of this… last year. Many of us simply weren’t as good at jumping last year. It was the first difficult JP with harsh timing.. you can’t stand around and plan your jupmp. Players also weren’t wisps, so you had huge norns and charr completely blocking your view. The first bit of the JP was rage inducing for me as I couldn’t see where to go. It wasn’t until my overflow started emptying out that I made progress. The camera issues were also problematic.

It took me at least 3 hours to get it done last year. This year I’m completing it multiple times easily. Experiencing more JPs and Super Adventure Box (I completed all tribulation modes) has really improved my jumping skills.

So no, this isn’t hard this year but it certainly was last year.

As someone who occasionally joins hot join (extremely, extremely casual when it comes to sPvP), reading suggestions to only have glory in tournaments is worrying. I’d hope there are other ways to prevent the glory farming without removing glory altogether from hot joins. I doubt many of you would want a spvp noob like me on your tournament team :P and I’d still like the opportunity to gain glory now and then.

Capping ranks earned could be a good idea if one can still work towards kills, glory earned, etc. Could be decent compromise.

Facts sorta get in the way of “perspectives”. This is one of those times you’re just flat out wrong. :P

I used to think the same way, so I get it. Then my boyfriend educated me on opportunity costs. Now I realise the way I was thinking was wrong. Not a big deal really.

My only big issue with the dungeon is the electrified floor during the hologenerator part of Clockheart. Imo the sections are way too big. It’s literally the only place in the dungeon where I can get frequently downed and it’s annoying.

Clockheart throwing gears on player corpses is pretty annoying too. Makes ressing a big pain.

I agree on fixing the aether tethering in clockheart and giving the oozes at the start a smidge more health or undamageable by us would nice too.

I haven’t gotten credit for Broken Clockwork either despite having completed the dungeon three times.

Same for Above and Beyond which I completed once.

Can’t say I agree with that at all. I find Slick and Sparky to be easy.. so did the rest of the guildies I ran it with. After we figured out we needed to kite the oozes next to the oil, even if we weren’t standing in it, it went smoothly and quickly. We kill Sparky first.

Whilst I was doing tribulation mode there was certainly a lot of “WHAT? come on, I didn’t touch that”, lots of sighing, some cursing and some rage, exclaiming how evil Josh is (yet sorta laughing about how he got me).. but.. after I’d completed it, it was a great feeling of satisfaction. So overall, yeah, I had fun.

And I’m somewhat amazed how much my jumping skills have improved after this last round of SAB.

It boggles my mind that you find running out of the way of a boss’s attacks to be ridiculous. I guess you’ve found loads of boss fights ridiculous over many, many years.

I think that’s pretty lame. If they want to limit the bubbles from tribulation runs, fair enough. But to not give the weapons tokens, especially for world 2? That’s just really, really rough.

I mean, no one is making any money by playing SAB and getting those weapons cost money.

And yeah.. these not being reusable skins is pretty lame as well.

Im still not sure what the intended way to fight the yeti and storm wizard is? Because the way I see it, its practically impossible to avoid getting hit by them.

The Yeti can be stunlocked with the whip I found out. Using Moto’s Finger on him cuts down the fight time as well.

Storm wizard just trolls by diving at you and you cant interrupt or dodge it.

Right after you reflect his projectile, immediately start running in the opposite direction from him in a wide circle. Keep doing so until you hear him stop making that sound that he makes when he rushes at you.

Since I started doing SAB tribulation (which was only the last 6 days of the event as I just got back to the game) I have only had time to do it a few days. I find I can do w2z3 trib faster. I seem to have a harder time remembering the exact places to step in most of world 1 with the hidden traps than I do with the technical jumping.

My first trib attempts took forever. The second time was much easier.

For some reason, I’m pretty decent at remembering where to jump. I think I got a bit sick of the corner jumps in w2z3 (though most of them weren’t hard) but I know I got sick of the slippery ice with insta-kill ice spikes. I’m sure I did have some latency issues when jumping over them. Or other times when I’d just barely tap the key to move forward yet I’d go sliding much faster than I should have.

I dunno.. I’m semi tempted to try all of w2 again tonight. It’s like I want to.. but at the same time really don’t want to. :P I kinda want to see if I’d be better/quicker at a subsequent run now that I’ve seen what I need to do in each section.

You guys are insane. :P I put off starting trib mode until the 2nd week of SAB and could only handle doing one per day. I just now finished W2Z3. I’m not sure I’d ever want to do that one again. Dunno.. I’m sure a subsequent run would go smoother, but I found that zone less enjoyable (ugh the part where you have to use the No-No clouds to give yourself invulnerability to slide through the insta kill ice on the ground.. bleh..)

Super Weapons are alright but I don’t love them enough to have to go through those zones numerous times. The bit of prestige that comes with the yellow-coloured weapon is the only thing that’s tempting. :P Though I like the blue better tbh.

I have zero idea which storm wizard weapon to get.. decisions, decisions!

I look forward red and purple though!

Ugh, I hate this when I’m playing my warrior. And I definitely think it’s due to people just not thinking and spamming whatever skill is off cd. But yeah.. the amount of times I start 100 blades in a dungeon with guildies and one of them knocks back the mobs… they get a big sigh and whyyyy??? from me (playfully ofc as they’re my friends :P) on mumble. ^^

I’ll be sad when SAB goes away. I wish it were there all the time for us to have jumping fun. It was the same with the Clock Tower and Wintersday JPs.. I dunno why, but I just enjoy having a bit of running and jumping. ^^ (In specific instances makes it better as when you fail, you’re ported back into it instead of having to WP and run back to a JP.)

Do the other games provide in game voip for when it is required?

At least WoW added a voip system after a while, but at least last I heard (long time ago, though) very few people use it, most guilds prefer a 3rd party app instead. Other MMOs I’ve played (Rift, Age of Conan, DDO, LotRO, TSW and a few other F2P ones) don’t offer any kind of voip, instead just make sure they’re compatible with existing ones (overlays and stuff).

Lotro has it’s own ingame voip system.

The dedicated Tequatl killing guilds are the ones that are doing this.

And what’s wrong with this? Why do we blame them for ‘hogging’ a server when they are pretty much just consisting of pugs who have the desire to work together?

As opposed to those pugs who are hogging a server and refuse to contribute and wish to solo Teq? I think those are the ones you should be blaming, not those that actually want to coordinate.

Excuse me, but can you please point to where I made any judgement about this being done? I’m afraid that I didn’t do any blaming.

I’m a part of one of those guilds and have done this “hogging”. I have no comment on it being right or wrong but I think it does highly a massive problem with the logistics of the Tequatl fight.

I dunno who was giving those answers, but Colin is very good at answering with non-answers. ‘Not off the table’, ’we’re listening’, ’we’re considering’, ’we’re looking at’, etc etc.. it’s all a way to respond without giving an actual answer. :P It all means that they may or may not do something about x at some unknown point in time.

Good Lord. They were expecting people to fail for WEEKS! And still be doing this in the hundreds, every 90 minutes. Is this a sound judgement of player behavior? Especially since this game was supposed to be casual friendly.

I can understand why they were hoping that. This is often true of real raids in other games. BUT! Those are coordinated groups of friends that keep coming back over and over to try again again. I don’t mind wiping in raids whilst figuring out strategy with a group of friends as I know, trust them and will have fun with them. But a group of 80+ strangers? Some who might be afk? Waiting around for an unknown spawn time? Hours between tries?

No thank you.

You want people to take days/weeks to beat hard content ANet? Make proper, instanced raids then. :P

The main thing that’s going to keep me from coming back is all the waiting around. Both times I’ve tried with [TSS] have been successful and fun.. except for the waiting around for him to spawn. Last night it was over an hour.

He really needs specific spawn times.

I’m talking about recent posts from Anet.

The first half of the week Anet developers were posting to hype and help players. But now that they seen a problem with the fight. They are not saying much.

Silence tends to be what happens in the face of negativity (this is true of most gaming companies.) Josh’s brief posting spree was such a refreshing difference for the short while it lasted. But that’s now gone. It just seems they think being silent is better I guess? I dunno..

Seriously, having high latency makes TM extremely frustrating.

That’s been my only beef with it.. the lily pads in green water… omg, those parts absolutely suck if you have some latency. And getting the shop behind the green waterfall, bleh. :P

Going to the 3 batteries is a good achievement design. It rewards you for doing what you are supposed to be doing (defending the batteries). The only thing it changes is that you go to a different one each megalaser phase instead of the same one each time. I wouldn’t call that “stupid or selfish”.

If it ends up with an imbalance between number of players at specific locations, it can be.

He’s got some really great points and I hope him using his popularity like this will get ANet to pay somewhat attention to some of his points.

He’s spot on with things like having to wait around for a random spawn and servers not having a great way to organise specific times.

And some of the achievements! Yes! The utterly stupid and selfish ones like finding the treasure, dodging the tail or going to the 3 different batteries. ANet does this so often: achievements that promote selfishness and even griefing (I’m looking at you Aspect Arena and Dragon Ball.) Why haven’t the learned not to do this yet?

ummm… I love hard content. I’ve always been in hardcore raiding groups in other games. I’d say this content is definitely for me.. but how am I to control who goes afk/trolls/doesn’t know how to play/etc, etc, etc in my overflow or whatever?

I’ve seen Tequatl downed and it was through joining an EU guild created with the focus of killing Taco, was on TS with all them and a few commanders shouting on it. It went really well and I did have loads of fun. It was great to work hard and in a coordinated effort with others (though too bad I didn’t know a single one of them )

BUT!

I still think this is waaaaaay too much required for open world content. The scrambling to find an overflow, taxi everyone in, trying to herd the cats to the proper spots in distribute population evenly, waiting around for a spawn, hoping that people won’t be afk when he does spawn… it just screams the need to be instanced, large-raid content imo.

I really have to wonder how long this enthusiasm for organising these herculean efforts is going to be sustainable.

b) How is a dodge jump supposed to be done ? Since april and the first SAB sessions, I have tried every space/V/double tap combination and have never achieved one : dodge-jump seems to be a completely broken mechanic which only works for very few players … am I missing something ?

I’m glad you got it. I just started doing dodge jumping with this latest version of SAB and I can mostly do it on demand but not always. I’ve always had my dodge button on C, but what I ended up doing was binding V as an alternate key. I was still having issues until I read someone say they leave the joint of their thumb on the space key and the tip of their finger on the V key. Then for me I have to mash somewhat quickly and hard and most of the time it works.

The game was playable for me so I decided to try Trib mode finally. W1Z1 was fine and really fun. Z2 is where my fun is ending. Not because Trib is too hard.

It’s because the lag/hit detection issues are ruining Josh’s creation. So many deaths due to the game not being able to recognise where I really am.

I now cannot get past the bit where you have to jump on the lily pads over the green insta kill water part.. the game keeps thinking I’m not on the lily pads. 3 easy jumps I can’t get past and I’m so close to the end (forget even trying to get the check point balloon)

edit: must have gone through 50 lives so far. I’m so angry I’m about ready to cry.

Now I got my first disconnet.. in SAB.. after loads of skill lag, being hit by the final boss invisibly.. lots of fun. This is time-gated material I can’t complete. I totally didn’t want some of the limited time weapon skins.

Anyway, hope I did this right:

Your issue appears to be the Tinet SpA and some massive packet dropping. This issue appears to be happening before it hits NCSoft’s address space.

Did you edit your post?… I thought I read something different and you saying I should start a ticket.

So what, we’re all suddenly experiencing problems post Tequatl and we’re all SoL?

I can barely play normal mode World 1. I mean.. I’d be running on flat ground after having made a jump and suddenly be falling through the air, dying and being returned to the check point.

I was being hit by invisible mobs.

The bosses were hitting me even though they weren’t facing me.

Horrible skill lag.

Then I get disconnected.

It’s all over the game though, not just in SAB. But what really makes me mad is SAB is temporary AND has time-gated baubles. I’m trying to work for skins and this is making it nearly impossible. If I lose a day to this horrendous lag, I can’t get those bubbles and dig spots back.

I still have Trib mode to work on, but right now that’s impossible.

Awesome post OP. I agree with everything.

The time-gated achievements are what have really gotten to me lately (dailies and living story) and the time gating in general. I’m like you.. I want to achieve, do challenges, etc, but I want to do so on MY time and at MY pace.

They’re trying to get me to play more and more and more and instead they’re achieving the opposite.
