Any of you ever met two stun-locking warriors ?

I just started doing a bit of spvp and I’ve already encountered stun lock warriors immediately calling me an OP noob for playing a necro. I’ve noticed some of them tend to purposely go after necros (until I put on Lichform, then they run away… -_-). If there ever was a build calling for diminishing returns….

Anyway, good post. I play this profession as it’s what I picked to play in beta and enjoy its playstyle, not because of its perceived OPness (which I don’t get.. honestly every profession has something that’s quite strong and annoying to deal with.) It’s quite disheartening to incur abuse for it.

Meatless Murder - Necromancer

I used my necro for meatless and found it laughably easy.
Just focus on chomper, between cripples, fears, chills, Spectral grasp, and fleshy KD the dog shouldn’t even be able to consider getting to any meats.

This. I’m a 30/30/0/10/0 necro.. just kept him crippled with the scepter and ran to the meat before him. Got it first try and felt quite easy. :/

For me it was the clocktower as that took me way longer to beat… something like 3-4 hours… though the first hour or two was wasted by big fat norn and charr butts blocking my view. :P ^^ I was also not as good at jumping back then. Liadri took me around 15ish tries, though I barely pulled it out on my win.

introduce a CD of 10 mins for fighting a specific opponent after you beat him.

This or put a DR on him.. and well.. all fights. I say that at someone who’s made some small change off of Ragemaw.

I watched a thief kill Deadeye over and over very quickly and it just screamed the need for a DR.

He shouldn’t be made harder as that would affect people who are just doing the gauntlet for achievements. I don’t agree with his rewards being nerfed either. We just shouldn’t be able to get rewards so frequently off all these bosses. Because let’s face it… people are just going to move to the next best thing after each nerf.

I sometimes never get sent into the gauntlet at all.. highly annoying when I was trying to get my 5 gambit achiev and now trying to use up tickets I’ve looted. I pick gambits, the fight I want, que… I then get the message that it’s my turn next and I’ll be sent in shortly…

… then nothing happens.

And of course I can’t reque up as I’m told I’m still queue. -_-

With massive inconsistency and a misunderstanding of the game mechanics.

Could someone reply with some specifics of how he was changed? I’ve never farmed anything on the gauntlet but I’m still curious.

Client optimizations are in the works along with server side improvements to reduce skill lag, I assure you that. There isn’t really a time-frame set for when these will start rolling out (hopefully in the next month). I hope to have more information on that soon.

The last thing we want to do is alienate the player base that doesn’t have hardcore gaming machines. As Colin mentioned, there are benefits to using the graphics settings for character models coupled with the removal of culling.

What I would love is more choice in what I can and can’t see and not such simplistic limits like the WvW culling. I’d really love to be able to turn off mesmer illusions, pets and other people’s effects from weapons sometimes so it would allow me to see what mobs are doing a bit better.

What can I say? I take this game seriously. Gotta get as much gold as possible. But if possible I’d also like to have some fun. Hence the humble request to Anet to nerf this guy’s drops or something.

Err.. wouldn’t it make sense to ask for rewarding and fun activities instead? :P

I think all of the waypoints for dungeons should be left uncontested. It’s an annoying restriction that screws people over who have real life time constraints and does absolutely nothing to bring the community together, but polarizes it even more.

I completely agree with this. And with the new account-bound gold rewards, there’s really no reason at all for dungeons to be contested.

Mini-Pet Slot

This is something I fully support as well. When you get a new mini, especially a more special and rare one (Like the Liadri one), you want to use it with ease… not have to remember to deposit and then withdraw it out again with whatever character you’re using, then re-equip it every map change.

High Level Champion Farming?

Kinda weird that this game attracted so many people who are so obsessed with repetitive grind.

Whilst obviously there will always be farmers in any game, I place a lot of the blame squarely on ANet because most things to work towards cost money. Other than dungeon skins, if you want something it’s all about money, money, money. When people discover something good, ofc they’re going to get as much as they can from it. Unless you’re some TP wizard or taking advantage of specific farms, money doesn’t come that easily in this game.

This is the first MMO where I’ve been so concentrated on making money. In others, I just ran content (dungeons, raids) in order to gear up and rarely had to buy things from Auction Houses. I could always just go out and get what I need instead or worrying about making money so I can buy it since farming it is unreasonably difficult. Personally, I prefer that method much more than the random money grind in GW2.. but strangely I’ve not burned out of it here (working towards 2nd legendary.) Not sure why that is tbh. :P

Video of you doing this on Ele? I would love to see it, as her grasps alone out damage all the heals I have. And if I do go condition, I cannot stack them fast enough during phase 2 to beat the timer.

The difficulty level of this does not need a nerf. Of course this was made for more hardcore people or those that enjoy challenge. I think all games need this sort of content to keep a variety players interested in the game. Should all dungeons be removed because some people don’t like to group up? No.

I will agree that the fight needs tweaking but only for playability issues, not difficulty (though it could be argued these playability issues are part of the difficulty :p ):

1. Move it to a place that doesn’t have a massive zerg below
2. No dome, allow us to zoom further out like we might do on Lupicus
3. Make the cosmic rifts rangeable
4. Perhaps remove the cosmic rifts from the 2nd phase or at least guarantee they won’t spawn were the one-shot aoe is going to drop. At least allow people a moment to recover from not killing it fast enough. Luck factors don’t make for fun fights.
5. Prevent the shadows from spawning on top of a player.
6. Allow solo target calling.. I’m not sure I could have done this without being in a party and having called target. It’s extremely hard to find her again when you’re worried about kiting.
7. Make the red aoe on the floor more visible.. though, once you’ve tried enough, you get a good idea of where it’s going to be.
8. Get rid of the blind (I turned off post processing.) If there’s a one-shot mechanism that requires people to look at the floor to avoid it, don’t blind them.
9. A bit longer of a timer. I had a few times where I just simply ran out of time. That was frustrating. And on my successful kill, the announcer was down to 1 when I got Liadri.
10. I actually think your idea of the clones doing less damage is a good idea.

Not everyone plays classes that have access to several evades, blocks, invulnerability, massive melee damage. So there really isn’t a fair option for some classes. Hell there is a video of a full zerk warrior just eating the shadow aoe and clone explosions as he kills Liadri in under 5 seconds flat. This challenge is broken. Period.

I didn’t use any blocks, evades or invulnerability on my warrior, nor did I melee her (except at the very end when she had like 2% health left and the floor was about to drop out from under me.) The video of what that warrior did was exceptional and not something your average or even somewhat decent player is going to be able to pull off.

I do agree some classes need mobility builds with access to more vigour (cough necro cough.)

Lets see, you sit in the aoe using Block, several evades, and invuln from endure pain. Funny Arcane shield on an ele dies to the shadow aoe. Yet Warriors block works just fine. I understand you want hard content, but everything should not be made just for warrior…

I guess you support nerfing mesmer’s number 2 sword skill as well? They can just stand there and evade everything. Or the fact they can blink out of the aoe? Or that they don’t even have to attack Liadri directly and let their focus and pistol phantasms do all their dps?

Or how about thieves and the way they can zip around the arena? Or engi’s with all their vigor?

Seriously.. stop on the warrior hate. The class doesn’t by default make this encounter easy. It may be easier, I’ll grant that, but it still very much depends on the player.

I love my Meteorlogicus, but I agree, it needs some footsteps and an aura like the other legendaries.

I’ve actually resorted to using a Windcatcher backpiece.. the type of effects the scepter should have had.

But just give it some footprints. That would be lovely.

I would really like to know how many people won the fight using a norn or a charr in the end. That would be interesting…

I just did with a norn.. and yeah the camera is frustrating. On my successful go I tried kiting closer to the center so could see a bit better. But by that point I had a good idea of the general pattern of things.

Was a bit of an epic finish.. was down to my last ticket, I heard the announcer start counting down.. so said “f it” and went melee. The announcer got to 1, red circles appeared all around me and I just barely killed her.

Only disappointing thing is that I had to go to my warrior for it (took warrior about 15ish tries.. tried at least 10 on necro.) My necro just didn’t have the survivability to take all of her hits in phase 1 and I wasn’t about to spend loads of gold or karma to get a setup for this one fight. Readdressing builds is a nice idea, but not when it’s so expensive to do so. Quite frankly ANet makes multiple builds offputting.

It’s possible the bug is an interaction/conflict between two or more things and one or more of them wasn’t possible when they were testing it.

This time we know for a fact they did test it because they talked about how their testers did. I’m sure if 60 people played enough to get up to Liadri with all 5 gambits they would have noticed a bug this common and annoying.

I’ve gotten this bug 3 times now (though for multiple matches).. and have now realised it seems to persist unless you relog.

He was giving me problems and making me really frustrated since we don’t have reflects (though I found out from a friend who has a mesmer for a main that reflects don’t work on his killshot anyway.. so, way to go ANet for that I say! ) Since he does more dmg from range, on my successful try, I immediately ran up into his face every time he moved. I may have dodged my way over, I dunno. :P I used burst skills on him (signet of spite, well of suffering, reapers touch.. all to stack vulnerability, then burst with ghastly claws) and use rampager’s armor. I turned on Death Shroud or Spectral armor when running to him (I bet spectral grasp might work as well to close the distance.) Also used flesh golem to knock him over, plus DS fear.

No for the necros, i mean i got it (and posted) but i still think it was 60% luck 30% skill 10% painful muscle memory… Especially since the blinds hit when i knew that the blobs wouldnt hit me and i managed to avoid all orbs in phase 2.

Again, the person I was responding too was complaining about completing Salazan on ranger due to lack of dodges… not Liadra. Please actually read what I’m posting.

Im sorry that you have not played a ranger yet… Rangers CANNOT continiously dodge like that… At best we have Vigor+50% extra regen… That gives 2 dodges, and then at minimum, another 3 seconds before the next dodge is possible… Given optimal conditions… Given the right weapons or skills, we can get another dodge or two in, and then only have 1-2 seconds of not being able to dodge… These dodges however are highly limited in direction and range. It’s not a viable option during Salazan, so that leaves two dodges before the 3 second window of not being able to… Now, we can have a sigil that gives full energy, giving us another 2 dodges… At which point we’re still back no dodges… Now, here’s the kicker… Assuming you’re running a fully defensive build, a ranger have ~24k HP. Salazans fire, hit you twice per second for 2000-2500 damage, for 10 seconds… You have at best 4 dodges giving you 3 seconds of immunity provided you are lucky enough to not get hit inbetween the dodges, which with twice per second is very common… That’s 7 seconds to go in which you have no dodges left. That means 14 hits, at 2000 damage each, at best… That’s 28k damage… You can heal for ~9k of that resulting in a net loss of 19k damage… And that’s the first 10 seconds of the fight… Now, the luck part comes in… Because Salazan will either start throwing a couple of fireballs on you which is easily avoided, but for the most part, he’ll just throw another fire ring on you… Except this time, you have 1, perhaps 2 dodges… And you’re dead… But hey, we have more skills to consider. We can be inv for a couple of secs, so let’s add that too… Well the inv is 6 seconds. So we can actually avoid all damage from the first ring… But then we take full damage from the second ring, so it’s still a death at that point… So in essence, the only way for rangers to kill, is to kill prior to that second ring being cast… Which is, as I said before… 100% based on luck… There’s zero skill involved in that because we have no way of influencing when that is being cast…

Which challenge? To survive the second ring of fire? Please, do tell how if you manage it… And then I dont just mean “I did it”… An actual breakdown of the fight…

I did this on necro and that profession has less dodge ability than ranger. At least you actually have access to vigor. I also survived a 2nd fire ring. You don’t need to be continually dodging. You need to strafe out of the way of what’s coming toward you. It took me a couple of tries, no I don’t feel it is easy, but I certainly know you can’t blame dodging.

Sorry but this is actually a l2p issue and not an issue with your profession.

This must be what’s happening for me too. I just started with the first boss (which I saw on the switch stream and it’s blatant ‘dodge the windup skill’ type boss. But I have him knocking me down when he’s displaying no animations whatsoever.

edit: relogged to another overflow, beat him no problem.. so yep, was lag. But now getting lag on the lady with the sunflare thingy. Fun fun!

This seems like a really silly change. It doesn’t allow you to try out different professions on the fights with ease. We shouldn’t have to farm tickets on multiple characters when on character might have plenty.

From finding and selling cores/lodestones and T6 mats yes? If so, then you just caught the market before it has adjusted. If that is 10g pure coin and vender then oh my.

It’s affecting my t3 light asura trousers. I’m able to dye the top just fine.

It’s incredibly annoying to have bought such an expensive piece and not be able to dye it.

Thing is.. if you didn’t know how this was changed, went in and failed first try…. you’re pretty much up a creek. A guild group of mine.. with at least 2 dungeon masters weren’t able to finish this path last night as we weren’t aware of exactly how it changed. Even the wiki (I believe) says something like, if you don’t get it done first try, you’re better off restarting the entire dungeon.

This boss is broken, in at least that it doesn’t fully reset. We tried all tactics listed (run in melee, have guard put up reflect.. well that didn’t work as we were getting bombarded by spiders 360 degrees, have the guard kite.. guard just got mauled quicky, then everyone else.. dodging when he does his attack [ofc I can’t know if everyone was dodging properly]).

edit: and quite frankly a group shouldn’t have to bring in a guardian to complete a dungeon run.

That boss was already bit annoying even though you could just hang back. It didn’t need changing or being made harder imo.

I’ve not run CoE with my necro in ages.. as let’s face it.. warrior is easy mode faceroll if I just want to get it over with. But! My warrior doesn’t have vigor going unless I get it from someone else in the party, so I use Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew on path 2/3.

Which brings something else to mind. The sPvP forums are specifically to discuss sPvP changes, or things that affect sPvP. If you would like to discuss PvE, please use the appropriate sub-forums.

Yet what you change for sPvP reasons change the class as a whole, for PvE as well.

So when are you going to split these two areas so you can balance properly?

I think the scoring needs more fixing. It’s pretty silly that the first person to die permanently can actually be the highest scorer.. or even score more than 2nd place.

Didn’t really checked the name, just assumed you were one of the previous posters. Sorry, just for the last few weeks we’ve had loads of people who don’t spvp come in here and yell at us. Most thread have had to be deleted even though they have contained good discussions up till things got personal. Just getting tiresome now. The spirit ranger one was a good one. Lot of hate in that one

Okay then, no worries. It’s a tough situation. I dunno if the necromancer needs to have some nerfs in spvp as I’ve played mine infrequently in that portion of the game (it’s my main, but I’m a pve person 99% of the time), but if it did, it would make the profession even worse in pve.. and it’s already one of the least wanted professions.

My point is that when pvp people are clamouring for nerfs, they do need to keep the other parts of the game in mind instead of having a myopic view. What we all need to be doing is being quite loud about the separation of the skills/traits in pvp/pve so people can have fun and balance in both sections. (I believe GW1 did this? If so, it boggles the mind as to why they’ve not done so in this game.) Then the calls for nerfs can resume. :P

Can’t really spoil anything but August has no jumping puzzle and we definitely wanted to steer away from instanced mini-games.

Thank goodness (though I don’t mind jumping puzzles at all ) In the future, I personally wish you’d leave the mini games more to festivals and also back off on the specific achievements in them (which tend to promote unintended gameplay.)

I’ve not been doing dungeons for a fair while on my necro as they’re not really wanted and my warrior is frankly much better, nor do I run a DS build.. but remembering how I used to use DS in dungeons whenever necro was my only toon… yeah I can see we’ve been screwed over. All for the sake of tournaments and ANet wanting a corner of the esports market. -_-

This is directly for the devs:

If you really are going to hotfix smth about the necros for the tournament then, for heaven’s sake, only change it for sPvP. Necros struggle enough in PvE and WvW, especially in WvW since organized guilds run high condition cleansing and high condition duration reduction (melandru runes and lemongrass soup).

Quite frankly I’m becoming a bit scared for my necro given some of the nerfs people want. Necro damage too high.. it sure as kitten isn’t in PvE!! Necros do too much dmg from range, nerf their range. Oh, you want me to go melee against the Statue of Dwayna which easily and often hits for 19k?

I would seriously suggest that ANet look at separating sPvP from PvE/WvW because balancing for the former is going to totally screw over the later.

1. Have tried PVP? If not, why?

Yes, both sPvP and WvW.. though very, very little of the former and more of the later.

2. Tried it and liked it or not?

When I first tried sPvP it was at the beginning of the game so of course didn’t know my class well. I think I tried 3 matches and found it frustrating. I recently went in again and had a much better time.. actually found myself doing quite well. So, I think it’s alright. I find it hard to fit into my pve activities and also find myself always scared of going back in as I’m afraid of being horrible (I know.. it’s silly :P.) Being killed repeatedly isn’t so fun. :P

WvW, it’s alright too, but I absolutely hate the armor repair cost. I also don’t like big zergs and nor does my PC. The few times I’ve managed to find some smaller skirmishing, it was much, much more enjoyable.

4. Done both WvW and PVP: which do you prefer and why?

I think I’d have to go with sPvP as there’s no consequences on my wallet if I die, it’s very easy to respec and play with builds, I don’t get lag so can see what my opponent is doing and it’s more small scale.

I just wish it was possible to hot join with friends. That’s one of the reasons why my boyfriend didn’t want to keep playing this game as we couldn’t pvp together. I’m not about to go do tournaments as I’m still a noob. I also think they could use different scenarios like capture the flag, or hold on to a certain item as long as you can (I’m thinking about some of Rift’s pvp I did.)

Wooden Chests would be more aptly named Troll Chests, but at least they don’t contain slabs of meat and hooves in WvW anymore. xD

Haha, I’ve called them troll chests.. like when I get a kite fortune or a pile of putrid essence. -_-
