This is very good advice. So many of us came from games where mobility was not such a big deal. Here it is an integral part of character survivability.

Heh, yeah. I came from playing Lotro for years. My first toon in beta here was an ele. On my caster (loremaster) on Lotro, it’s actually impossible to move for most of the skills. You get rooted during inductions. So needless to say, GW2 had a sharp wake up call at the beginning with me dying a fair bit on that ele. :P It’s what made me play a necro as main to start out with at launch since they were a bit more hardy and have lovely slows for moar kiting! ^^

I didnt even know you could dodge moves, nor did I know you could walk around them to hit them. Also my gear has been level 1 pretty much still so ill check that out too..

This isn’t a game where you want to sit there and face tank mobs (ala Lotro or something), at least early on. A bit later warriors can do that more and more. But learn to start being mobile and dodge. Otherwise, you might have a bad time. :P

The waves are still quite spread out. I think I had all of one head towards me during an event. Still stuck at 1/5…

Would have been much smarter to make it a circular wave like the molten bosses.

I really dislike the change with the exploding presents. It’s a lot more trolly than it used to be. You get a backlog of people waiting for it to be safe, aka when they first spawn, but it seems that when that many people start jumping it makes them explode even faster. Also you could be midway with the first bit at have no snowflakes to jump on and have to wait for them to appear. I can deal with that bit, but I’m finding the new presents to be quite frustrating. I never had much of an issue with them last year, but this year is a different story and making the JP not as enjoyable.

Whats required to make the item? Also is the recipe account bound or can it be bought on the TP? (I’m hoping the recipes, and mini Ho-Ho Tron, can be bought on TP)

Both recipes are account bound and for lvl 500 Armorsmith/Leatherworker/Tailor. Don’t know the materials required to make them.

Ugh.. that’s just ridiculous. Absolutely no reason to make those recipes account bound.

What happened to soft wood?

I think the OP is referring to when Anet changed it so you need 4 soft wood for a plank instead of the 3 like everything was normally (weapon crafting wise anyways).

When that happened, wasn’t there way too much soft wood and it was very cheap? Looking at gw2spidy, it would seem I’m remembering correctly:

Really, I’m perplexed as to why they’ve not reverted the woods.

But given the current costs of wool, cotton, and linen, I’d highly doubt they’d change it so that bolts need 3 scraps. Those items seem to have plenty of demand and no need of clearing out a surplus.

WvW Season One Rewards Are Unacceptable

I spend an average of about 35 silver an hour in wvw just for food, with over 350 hours in seasons that’s 122g I spent during that period. My server came in first in the gold league. What did I get for it? About 2g in rewards, ascended mat junk I don’t need, a mini (which everyone got), level scrolls which I don’t need (16 level 80s), a tiny amount of wxp, and a finisher that has a limited number of uses. That’s just silly silly-pants!

It’s funny how some of you completely disregard everything you got along the way.. or are you trying to say you got zero drops, no rewards for event completions etc during those 7 weeks? This doesn’t excuse the lack of unique and WvW-focused rewards ANet should have given, but it’s frankly a bit disingenuous to act like you walked away with nothing but that reward chest.

What exactly do you guys do to keep interest?

I’m working for Sunrise.. which would be my 2nd legendary. I often ask myself what’s the point though. :/ Basically I do love the world and combat.. so I want to be in Tyria.. but I’m starting to struggle, especially as my guild becomes more and more dead.

Urmaug’s Secret in LA is very, very quick. I do Antre of Adjournment in Malchor’s Leap nearly every day with several characters when gathering in Orr.. little chests with loot that somewhat commonly drop at least one t6 mat for me plus I’ve gotten very fast at it.

No idea if anyone has mentioned this in this thread, but if you get hit by one of the molten firestorm’s red firery circles, you automatically get two stacks of agony since he seems to fire two shots in one place. Maybe this is working as intended, but to me it’s quite unfair given in the Jade Maw, you can never get multiple stacks of agony. I saw one of my guildies manage to get 5 stacks at once. That’s just ridiculous. Not to mention the issues of getting agony when you’re not even in a red circle or being hit by a wave. This can be a really fun fight, but the ability to get stacks of agony should go imo.

We also had the pleasure of getting dredge before the molten duo… again (we keep getting this.. seen it 3-4 times lately) but unfortunately we got the bomb door which is SO MUCH WORSE than the guns. SO many more dredge spawns in that whole area than there used to be. Why? Just why Anet?? Why add more enemies to one that already had too many to begin with!?!

Such an unpleasant run that was.

I would say that has more to do with the maturity of the playerbase rather than the females vs males itself. Mature people don’t really make a difference between a male player and a female player.

Pretty true, actually. I’ve always been an openly female gamer and used female avatars for years, but I’ve never been showered obsessively with gifts.

In my years of gaming, I have seen Men who role-play girls get far more “gifts” than us real females. They clearly are better at “clueless” than me

I want to know what I am doing wrong too- I mean my account name is Morrigan- and all my characters are female- I never hide that I am a woman.
I get nothing.

Another female here that must be doing something wrong. Same as you, female-sounding username, female toons, never hide that I’m one when I’ve applied for a guild in any game. Yet I still struggle along to earn gold in this game and don’t get any more help than the other female or male members in the groups I’ve been in.

I absolutely dread getting the dredge fractal as it’s so needlessly long and painful. I totally agree with Reginault who called the mobs in it “AoE CC machines with boons”.

There are simply far too many mobs to be dealing with at once in that fractal compared to others, silly spawns or respawns as well. Too many powerful aoes. But, I personally can take all that if they’d just make the kitten fractal shorter. I think whole parts of it should be removed. I’d completely remove the bomb door run/mining cannon bit’s altogether. Then I’d also remove the clown car aside from the initial spawns with Rabsovich. With those bits removed, the fractal might then have an acceptable length and difficulty with its counterparts.

While I like the difficulty of the encounter, I agree that those random AR strikes are quite pointless and really only reward equipement. An agony strike at the very beginning of the fight and one right after the first boss dies would be enough to me.

Definitely agree. One thing I liked about fractals prior to this patch is that we could easily bring someone in with little to no AR and even complete level 30 with them. Aside from the Maw, if you knew what you were doing or had a good plan, a lot of the agony could be avoided. This is much much harder in many of the new fractals or downright impossible with the Molten bosses it seems. I’ve not seen the Mai Trin boss fight yet, so dunno about that one.

There seems to be weird things going on with the Molten bosses. At one point nearly halfway through the fight I was standing it what appeared to be a completely clear area: no shockwaves, no red circles nearby and I was still being hit with agony somhow. Or other times there’s rocks falling around me, I’m not in the red circles, but I’m still getting hit by agony. I can’t help but wonder if it’s buggy.

But I must say, the difficulty is WAY OFF from the Jade Maw. It’s no where near equal. Quite frankly I think they need to remove a lot of the agony.. just make agony checks like the Maw in order to equalise them. Or add a lot more to the Maw.

Did you try going in with your mesmer and then back in with your guardian? I suggested this to a guildie.. go in with your highest fractal level character and see if it resets the low one. It worked for him.

I do find it absurd that you can run all three AC paths which are much easier in the same time frame and get way more loot and gold. Heck, even one AC run probably nets nearly as much loot (depending on which fractals you get) and definitely gives more gold.

I completely agree with this and is the way I was thinking it should be when the change was first announced. Knowing when that 3rd fractal loads that you’ll be getting one of the hardest/longest… it induced a bit of a feeling of dread.

I’d MUCH rather get the hardest over with at the beginning.

Dredge Fractal "Fix"

I’m really disappointed with what they have and haven’t done with the dredge fractal. I thought I remember reading at some point that they said they were going to do something about its length? Instead they add a few more mobs at the very beginning and now you can’t even die on the buttons to at least salvage something going wrong. It does seem they’ve made the dredge not spawn as fast in that room, so it’s something.

But then the rest. Just as long and tedious as always. Still so many dredge popping out of the clown car. And then the Ice Elemental seemed a bit worse. Maybe I was having an off night but I don’t remember getting successive 10k hits on my warrior before. I don’t remember the last time I’ve died on the ice elemental until tonight.

So much for any improvement. This will still be one of the worst to me.

it’s not an Anet issue, it’s a backbone issue affecting providers used by Anet. they can’t do anything to solve it. last time it happened it was caused by a big power outage in USA around new york. you just gotta wait til providers and power companies restore the network

Then why is this not affecting all people? It’s affecting me and there was just something in map chat about it on my server and other people are able to see their online guild members just fine.

I’ll be losing a few levels myself so I can somewhat sympathise, but give they’re changing how level 30+ fractals work, this reset does seem necessary. Many of us may have to relearn things a bit. We’ll see. But you definitely can’t make claims about it being easier until you’ve actually played it.

But the QQ over fractal weapons? Come on.. it’s all pure RNG. You literally have no control over the acquisition of them so this pretending it’s your skill or hardcoreness that go you them doesn’t work imo. Some people got a skin from the first run they did where they could drop. Others haven’t gotten a single skin in hundreds of fractals. And you don’t need to be running level 50 to be getting them.. or even level 30 for that matter. So fractal skins are representative of nothing but stupid luck.

I’m more bothered by there only being one waypoint and it’s at the bottom. A bit annoying when you’ve paid to travel to the top, tried to help out a fallen player whilst running through, ended up dying yourself (I’ve started running past downed/dead people.. feel so incredibly guilty but more often than not trying to help results in my own death ), so have to pay to wp down then the fee to travel up again.

Not surprising considering there’s no benefit to run it once you’ve gotten your achievements and can just park an alt at the top to run the instance or to open the chest with your daily key.

I must be missing something.. what daily key do you get at the top of the tower?

After this latest patch, I’m suddenly getting disconnected a lot. Once whilst standing in LA, another time when walking through an asura gate, and now again after having entered a personal story mission. I lose connection and the game gets stuck on a white screen. According to my task manager, the game is still running…

it seems this was finally fixed? Mine is glowing blue whilst stowed during the day! \o/ Hurray! Though it has no trail whilst running.. but I’m so very thankful to have the daytime glow back.

Yeah, I’m feeling bored. Sure there’s ascended or legendary stuffs to go after but the only way to grind for those is grind random money. I’ve done most of the dungeons a fair bit, they’re still good but yeah, they’re getting old.

I started playing Guild Wars and found myself wishing I had that sort of stuff to work on.. specific challenges for outfitting heroes, vanquishing areas, hard modes of all kinds, titles, prestige gear. I’d love to have more specific activities to do, perhaps even more solo challenge type stuff.

I’m just tired from the random money grind to earn most everything aside from specific dungeon gear.

It is indeed called strategy, just as the poster said. It’s a valid and common, at that. Other than “I don’t like the way you play” you don’t seem to have an argument.

The poster can play any way he like. Others shouldn’t have to play the way he likes to work around a situation where all pve mobs must be downed. We’re talking hypotheticals here, not what is actually in the game. The person I first replied to seemed to want the down mechanic for everything. They wished it had been in from the beginning of the game. And I sure do have an argument for that not being a good thing for solo players as it would mostly nullify the rally system. How could a player rally if in order to completely kill a mob, it must be finished (what if this even applied to the deer)? You can’t do that if you were downed at the same time the mob was downed. If mobs can help rez each other, but the player doesn’t have anyone to help rez him/her, that’s a problem. Some of us may not have issues with getting down or dying, especially at higher levels, but others might, especially newer players. The rally system can be an excellent system for a player to be able to turn the fight around.

Look, I don’t really have a problem with the toxic nightmare court needing to be finished. I find it slightly annoying and tiresome and more to do with selling finishers, I’d rather not have to do it, but I can deal with it. I suppose it’s fine for ANet to add this in certain situations (like the Scarlet instance in Divinity’s Reach. It added a bit of interesting challenge). What I was objecting to was it being injected into the whole game.. making it where EVERY mob would need to be finished as someone was suggesting. But yes, I do think having to drag a deer into the fight in to potentially rally off is silly as that would basically be attempting to work around poor design. What would one do if there was no deer around?

So no, it’s not at all about me not liking how others play. People can do what they like. I find it funny you’re throwing that at me when I’m blatantly stating that I realise people have different levels of skill. It would seem I’m advocating for a broader player base, inclusive of low and high skill.

I solo PVE’d many a toon to 80. This is called strategy. If youre fighting enemies that you think might down you, maaaaybe you should tag a deer or something first and bring it over to the enemy so you have something to rally off of. I did this with lvl 60 toons in level 70 and 80 areas. AOE everything and kite a neutral in case I need to rally. I know, I know, its too hard for most people. Its beyond pressing 1. silly me

Please spare me the condescension. It’s rare that I get downed in the open world, but I’m able to realise there are different levels of play. And seriously.. aggroing a deer in case you might need to rally to work around the mechanics if say all “normal” mobs had to be finished in order to be killed? Really? What a lame way to have to work around something.

Finishing can work fine in group play. I don’t think it works well where people are supposed to be able to solo (the person I was replying to seemed to be suggesting that all mobs have it everywhere) as it then nullifies the rally system.

EVERY SINGLE TIME we’ve had achievements like this (Scarlet invasions, Queen’s hot air ballons, etc.) we’ve complained about not being able to track the achievements — and here we are again!

Or the dive master achievement.. which is especially fun when there’s hard dives like the one in the aether JP.

Personally, I don’t see why PvE creatures didn’t have downed-states to begin with.

They made a huge deal about it, yet their PvE wasn’t build around it. Why not?!
If (sentient?) creatures had downed states, their basic AI could have been made more interesting – Like more frequent auto-attacks (letting us make use of confuse/retaliation), or shorter aggro + longer leashing, etc..

Well I can think of one good reason:

how do you think you’d rally if you’re playing on your own… you’d be stuck in a downed state with the mob, with no way to rally, slowly trying to kill each other whilst lying there, except, oh.. the mob has a friend who will rez him.. but you have no friends to rez you.

Seems like a bad idea for soloers in PvE.

You know, I’d actually like to enjoy your beautiful game ANet. But instead, I have to turn my graphics down to crap level in order to actually PLAY your game.

I’m tired of trying to race to events so I can get credit. This is just so old and tiresome.

edit: I just bought the original GW last week and I have to say, at this moment I’d rather go back and play that right now. I love GW2’s combat and looks, but the content and story isn’t seeming as good as when we first started this game.
