I’ve made 6 legendaries in the year of the game’s existence. Truth is it takes 4 months to craft a legendary, assuming you target one of the expensive ones AND take your time going about it. I don’t assume people are going to play at my level and get theirs in two months, but 4-6 months for a legendary is doable even for a casual.

I finally watched Josh’s stream and he said something about how Tribulation and even normal mode isn’t going to be for everyone. That would be fine.. except for the large amount of APs behind Tribulation mode. That’s a wee bit frustrating and something I know that’s not in your control, Josh, but it’s still something I felt the need to comment on.

I think the glow when it’s stowed at night is lovely actually. It’s a mix of blue and purple (once you use the weapon the stowed glow changes to all purple.) You can see the lightning firing in the clouds, the stars twinkling and when you run the trail is better.. it seems a bit bigger and brighter. So WPing into some place at night, before you use the weapon.. I think they did a good job with it. The daytime stowed-non-glow and no trail after using the weapon no matter what time of day has to be a bug. So, fingers crossed this doesn’t take months to fix.

edit to add some photos:

WPing into an area at night (it’s almost like the day and night glow is going on.. but it’s lovely :P) and the trail.

Check out this video from Wooden Potatoes.

He actually has alot of fun completing the first zone in tribulation mode.

I’ve watched about 20 minutes of that video.. and I think the biggest lesson I took away from it is:

If you want to attempt Tribulation mode, you better buy the store coin. Otherwise, you’re gonna have a bad time. And to me.. that’s pretty unfun design. :/ Tribulation mode actually looks like it could be entertaining, as long as you have that coin. I really don’t want to have to cave and buy it, but it’s looking inevitable.

To further illustrate the point : http://youtu.be/J9-aUFHIt7c

It’s not difficulty, it’s not even lag, it’s terrible detection. If Josh can watch this and claim everything is fine with the hit detection and the player was at fault in each case, then I really don’t know what to say.

That’s crazy. I’ve not set foot in this new SAB (got full achievements last time and thoroughly enjoyed it) but after reading this thread, blogs and that video.. I’m honestly not sure I want to bother.

Footfall is buggy just like when they added footfalls for the first time to other legendaries like howler, moot etc. The clouds don’t show up noticeably and only stay on for a short time.

They do blend in quite well if you’re walking over a grey/brown surface.. which is a very common colour for dirt and rocks which are like.. everywhere. ^^

This thread makes me laugh and cringe at the same time. All the begging and moaning is terrible. State your opinion so Anet can see the majority preference, but please ease up on the whining now.

Some of it may be bugged because it’s just been patched in, report the bugs and wait. Its still a fantastically beautiful weapon. It’s now a very interesting weapon, it has a lot going on.

When I spent tons of gold and tons of hours grinding out a weapon like this, I’ll moan about them taking away effects if I please. You do realise this is spoiling some people’s game? I will let ANet know about the problems (bugs?) it has. Don’t want to hear it? Don’t enter the thread. Problem solved.

It glows at night while sheathed and the blue and purple trail is there as well, add the trail and glow back to the daytime version and I’ll be happy.

I finally got to see it at night.. and yeah, it has a glow when sheathed then. This leads me to believe the lack of a daytime glow is a bug.. so I reported it.

I don’t mind the purple night cycle at all and the footsteps work well with it then. So for me now I want the daytime bug fixed and would appreciate the trail back and I won’t gripe anymore. :P

edit: OMG I had my trail back for a moment at night.. it was bigger and more lovely and wonderful than it was before! Then I used my weapon and it disappeared.

The only good thing about the changes is the stars / clouds effects,

I agree with that.

The footsteps are sorta growing on me.. but they still don’t fit. If they’d have been white fluffy clouds during the day then angry thunderstorm ones at night, that would have been better.

I could deal with the lack of trail… if I could just have the sheathed glow back.

Not a happy camper with these changes.

1. I want the glow back when it’s stowed. Seriously, why did you remove this?
2. I want the trail back when I run and swing the weapon. Again, seriously, why did you remove this?
3. The footsteps don’t at all match the scepter during the day. I’ve not seen the night cycle yet but it just seems out of place during the day.

The added sparkly stars when it’s drawn was nice, thank you. But,

give me my stowed glow and trail back!!!!

I worked my butt off to get this (didn’t farm CoF, took me many months) and I’m not happy at having things made worse on it.

Apart from the footfall, I like the changes. I have never seen the scepter as a ‘legendary to get’ until now.

Apart from the footfall and the trail removal, I’m alright with it. Gonna have to wait and see the night effect though.

My suggestion for the footfall would be to keep the lighting effects at night, and replace it with clouds or healing rain type effects in the day. Then it would match the new day/night cycle of the weapon and justify the lighting effects.

That’s a reasonable suggestion.

Let Ascended Weapon Replace Precursors

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lothirieth.3408

It sounds attractive since you’ll be able to get your legendary. Everyone will get their legendary. In fact so many people will have a legendary we can rename it to common.

Everyone wants to shortcut the legendary process because they feel entitled to get one but really nobody should be entitled to a legendary weapon after doing a bit of crafting.

LOL you didn’t read up on the process to create Ascended weapons, did you? Pretty much the only difference between Legendary/Ascended methods is that Ascended doesn’t require 100% map completion, but it does require a few hundred gold worth of mats to craft your way up to 500 before you begin to craft an Ascended weapon.

This.. this is just so very, very wrong. Really, go take a look at just the Gift of Fortune and calculate the price of that… let alone the Icy Runestones, Lodestones, precursor, etc you might need. No one knows exactly what it’s going to cost to get to 500 crafting (which along the way you’ll be gathering/crafting the mats you do need for your Ascended weapon so you won’t just be beginning then) but you’re being hyperbolic about ascended crafting and then clueless when it comes to legendary weapon crafting.

The Dark Matter you can only get from salvaging Exotics. (might cut off a source of Ectos)
The Dust you can get from salvaging Ectos and from enemy drops and bags. (If Dust is more valuable than the ectos in these recipes, or even equally valuable, then the price of both will skyrocket)

Er.. that’s precisely what I was talking about. We don’t know what the drop rate on the dark matter is going to be, so we won’t know how this will affect the exotics market and if people are going to need to be crafting more exotics, which then in turn uses up more ectos and t6 mats.

That would be pretty uncool to change the benchmark for weapons that weren’t crafted before now. Making it harder for people who are crafting a weapon after September 3rd is a really horrible and stupid idea. Legendaries already have a lot more to them that keep them harder to obtain than ascended weapons.

Makes it kind of funny then that the price of Ectos has been going up lately, since as far as we know, you only need a Grand Total of 1 per day.

Two per day if you look at what Dulfy has screenshotted. There are two recipes: Glob of Elder Spirit Residue and Lump of Mithrillium. But of course this doesn’t take into account exotic crafting (for leveling and/or salvaging) or salvaging ectos for dust or the another 5 you’ll need for the inscription. The actual ascended crafting doesn’t look too bad. It’s the globs of dark matter that we’re going to have to wait and see on.. and that can affect ectos.

I may have been not careful enough, but I didn’t see huge quantities of ectoplasms being used up in the creation of Ascended Weapons. The recipe I saw required only 1.

Well given that you have to craft exotics in order to max out crafting to 500, there’s already more than 1 ecto usage right there. But you should take a look at what Dulfy has put together. You’ll find more ecto usage:

Is there any word on reimbursement to people who want to keep their discoveries even if it makes crafting from 400-500 more difficult. it sounds like this was either poorly thought out or you guys really dont like your fans.

It helps to read the blog post:

When the update goes live, the three weapon-making disciplines will find that they can now level up their crafting from 400 to 500. In order to do this, you’ll need to refine Tier 6 crafting materials and craft exotics. To facilitate this process, we have reset everyone’s Exotic weapon discoveries so that you will be able to re-discover them and get that sweet XP bonus once again.

New Ascended Weapons Feedback

in Crafting

Posted by: Lothirieth.3408

Lothirieth.3408

My biggest concern is how significant these ascended weapons will be. Will they be outrageously priced? I, personally, despise crafting in this game (now don’t jump on me! It’s subjective and I’m ok with that!). Instead, I sell all my mats on the TP to bring in a cash flow since I can’t really do dungeons due to having young children, a wife, and a demanding job. (Or it’s a lack of confidence for dungeons as well, who knows?)

I just keep worrying that when it comes out, I won’t be able to keep up. I’ve accepted that I’ll never have a legendary, due to crafting and no dungeons. I’m ok with that so far.

I guess I’ll just have to wait and see how Ascended Weapons go!

Best get to crafting as they’re account bound.

So, you have to waste a 100 craft points worth or resources crafting exotics you don’t need just to get to 500? Brilliant planning. Didn’t they say they wanted to stay away from this “pointless” crafting?

After watching the stream, I’m also wondering what the point is of getting to 500. Maybe there will be new achievements. Maybe one day it will be needed for precursor crafting.. maybe you have to have crafting at 500 to actually make the ascended weapons.

But yeah, it does seem like a lot of pointless crafting.

It also seems to me that a huge number of T6 materials and ectos is needed, so is crafting ascended weapons only for the rich people?

The mats needed looks crazy. Even making Legendaries is going to get worse due to prices.

More money grinding. ….. Hurray?

Just quit” well my answer is “Maybe one day this game will get better, a lot better again so I will actually care again, and when that time comes, if ever, I do not want to regret missing out on thousands of AP.”

That’s the way I feel too. Though, this week I’ve stopped logging in everyday. Quite a few APs I’m missing out on, but oh well. I really gotta take some time off. :/

I don’t understand why people in GW2 feel the need to “check the list” and “grind and farm” things when the things they’re farming for are completely and utterly superficial and trivial in the grandscheme of playing the game. Why would you do any of it if you don’t enjoy doing it when the rewards are just cosmetic/fun/ect and have no bearing on seeing content in the game?

Cosmetic rewards and APs are pretty much all there is to work for at end game. (though the gear treadmill will be expanded next week ofc.)

New content quickly will NEVER be bad for the game; burning out is natural and being compelled to grind out rewards by doing tasks you don’t enjoy (rewards that don’t really help you other than give you a little trophy) it a personal problem, not the fact that the game is supplying you with things to do.

I don’t think anyone is complaining about getting new content. They’re complaining about the pace and temporary nature of it. Many people do like being completionists, but usually we’re able to complete things on our own timeframe. But with these temporary and short-term LSes, either you complete them within a certain time or you don’t. And if completionism is your preferred style of gameplay, then yeah, it’s possible to get burned out doing exactly what you do like if in order to do so, you have to do it in a faster than preferred rate.

You say it’s not a problem that the game is supplying us things to do, but you left out the temporarily part and that completely changes the context of the discussion.

I, too, was extremely bored and “burned out” by the tasks/achievements/dailies/monthlies, … you name it. The game is at this very moment a chore and everything that was fun about it, became a grinding nightmare

I don’t have a problem with tasks and achievements. I do have a problem with them being temporary. I think that’s what’s burning me out. In combination with your next point:

I play games because they’re fun, that’s why they’re called “games”, I don’t play them so I can frustrate myself at farming money and noticing that I still need to farm more and more.

It’s not that hard to go out and gather it you know. Without going into WvW, you can get at least 45 ore per character. There are nifty websites out there that allow people to work together and update maps of where the current nodes are as well.

There’s no need for a rich node. Prices are probably going up due to people potentially stocking up for the new crafting and being busy with the invasions instead of doing some farming in Orr.

Outside of wood, ore, cloth and leather.. how is this possible? Have you really gathered all the fine mats you need for leveling all crafters? How about some of the rarer cooking ingredients, t6 mats or lodestones? You can’t reliably gather many things and instead must resort to the TP. Now if you’re downed, it’s a different story (but more often than not you need to play smart and realize that if there is a mob nearby that is almost dead, you can rally off him rather than waiting for a rez)

People aren’t even rezzing downed players, though I personally do the best I can to help anyone I see downed, unless it would mean getting downed myself. Luckily I’ve rarely died since my aoes as a necro have tagged enough other stuff for a rally eventually, but it is seriously discouraging, frustrating and depressing to be downed and see people around you completely ignoring you because they’re so caught up with getting enough damage in on a champ for loot.

Honestly, I worry less about the impact on the economy as a lot of people are and more about the impact on the community (especially when you see cursing and verbal going on in map chat in other areas if someone dares start to kill a champ too early or another group messing up a rotation. I’ve done more reporting this past month than in all the months since the game started.)

Thing is, given how many points are available with the dailies (if you complete them all, including the WvW bit and sPvP), this is something outside of the living story that also never gives a break. One can’t fully blame the living story and its APs for burn out, though as a dedicated player who is experiencing burnout, I do think the living story is the biggest culprit.

And then the Clockwork Chaos turns out to be a farm festival. And my brain doesn’t know what to decide. The player in me sees this is an opportunity that MUST NOT be missed, but the human being says NOOO – you won’t be happy after.

This, oh man, this! ^^^^

I’ve enjoyed most of my time in GW2, but right around the Zephyr stuff is when this became a big achievement fest. This last patch, when I log in and see lots more new achievements.. on one hand I’m like “Yay, APs” but then on the other hand, I’m really starting to feel overwhelmed by this every two weeks.

I think these past two installments have been what really ramped up these feelings of conflict for me, I think because they’re so horribly zergy, grindy.. yet really rewarding (champ farm Orr/Frostgorge, Pavillion farm, gauntlet farm, doing multiple dungeons quickly, now these invasion farms.) I’m not the type to do this repetitive farming, but the income has been so good my brain is saying “You can’t miss out on this and get left behind” but also saying “Staaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhp the grind! You’re burning yourself out!” Honestly, this zergy grindfest really needs to stop. There’s been far too much injected into the game these past two updates.

I’ve plenty of time to play compared to a lot of people but even I am wishing they’d scale this back to monthly releases.

(Also I feel the story has been sorta trivial… I’d love for them to get back to the type of lore in GW1 that attracted and initially kept me in this game.)
