rolling a new char without having the oppressive feeling of wasting my time if i’m not maximizing the gold/hour ratio.
This. So this. I have a such a hard time with this… thinking about making money all the time.. run these dungeons, gather this mat.. ugh.
I’ve crafted two legendaries… so.. what.. craft more (which I suppose I am doing.. just waiting for precursor crafting as I’m not paying another person 1000g for one)?
And I have to agree with Lord Byron. The money grind that is legendaries is one thing that makes me feel a bit sour about the game. I’d love to have more meaningful and challenging activities that needed to be completed in order to earn a legendary.
I don’t know if this is repeatable or if it’s been found before, but wiping after the Molten Berserker and before killing the Molten Firestorm seemed to give my entire party the achievement.
Yeah this happened to a party of mine’s as well. Killed the Beserker, wiped on the Firestorm (I dunno how :P), rezzed, killed the Firestorm, achievement for all.
The main problem now is the temples. Whenever you go into Orr, they are usually done and there is no way to tell when one is up. They really need to add temples to the boss schedule imo.
Thanks, I will try your suggestion. Already running my necro with condition build and axe
there’s your problem
No. Actually it’s ANet’s problem.
In any case, I’ve not gotten loot off of Ulgoth or his champions sometimes whilst on my zerker warrior. This is a frustrating problem that needs to be fixed. A party to get loot off a champion, regardless of what profession you’re playing, shouldn’t be mandatory.
What level of Fractals are you doing? Levels 1-9 are a joke, yes. Perhaps try some of the higher levels?
The OP wants rewarding content. The highest level fractals aren’t. You make less there than you would dungeon running in the same time frame.
And to all the people bringing up progression gear grinds, where the the OP say that? The OP points out GW1 which has awesome horizontal progression and challenging, rewarding content. It can be done.
This can’t be real. You can’t get the same skin twice … or can you? I think a verification of this would be enough to make me uninstall the game and buy Wildstar. No one and I mean not a single developer in the world, could screw up this badly.
My two daggers and two focuses (foci? :P) say hi. :P
Just going to point out that for the time it took people to complain about the price of the content, you could of logged into the game and got it for free.
That’s not always the case. What if you’re on vacation for example.
Anyway, I’m not sure the analogy to TV episodes quite works for gaming. With TV, lots of people have DVRs so can set that up to record the programs they’d like to watch whilst they’re away. Also, in the States, you guys have Hulu. :P
I get ANet wants to make money, but not charging customers equally for content doesn’t seem quite right to me.
If you guys want money, how about expansions or housing, etc, etc..
You can have your adventure, but let me have my snowflake. Part of the issue is that you want both your adventure and my snowflake. When there’s too many snowflakes around, it just becomes common snow that no one cares about.
Have you played other MMOs? (Yes that’s a bit of a snarky and rhetorical question.) Usually it’s the people who went on the challenging adventure that are the special snowflakes. Not the ones with their butt parked at an Auction House.
Every TP I have seen there has been gambling by players. You cannot avoid that.
Every game has the same issue – it is not a unique problem to this game. If the drop rate was the same for all items, y’all would complain also. That is why there are Rare – ultra-rare – OMG rare :-) items.
I agree with the first bit. Flippers are in every game and there’s nothing wrong with that.
But the second bit I don’t completely agree with. Other games I’ve played have made it where you earn best in slot gear through completing raids or dungeons and not randomly farming gold to then buy stuff off the TP. In other games I was completely self sufficient. I could farm any mat I needed and raided for all my gear. It was rare I bought stuff off any auction house. This is so very not possible in GW2. I’d rather GW2 was more like Rift regarding a cash shop. Still have it where people can buy store currency with in game gold or real life money, so there’s still that exchange, but keep best in slot armor only obtainable through challenging gameplay. I think that would go farther towards satisfying more people. Flippers could still have their fun, people could go to the TP/AH if they didn’t feel like farming, and those who wish to be self sufficient could be.
Also, John: gratz on being lucky with Tequatl (never even seen a tequatl hoard myself). If you do play, however, then i don’t get why your posts seem to show complete lack of understanding of players psychology.
This. +111111111111
+1 for your creativity.
Fyi, this thread is being made fun of here:

I can’t log into GW2 at the moment, but just use the display option that’s named something like borderless windowed full screen. If you use that, f.lux will be in effect. No app needed. It would also be utter bull kitten if it was considered cheaty. (My eyes literally cannot handle computer screens at night without f.lux anymore. :P It’s such a great program… everyone should use it.. seriously!) f.lux isn’t changing anything with the game whatsoever.
f.lux is weird though. Some games it automatically works with, but others need to be in a windowed display.

I can sense a thread closure coming.
Probably yeah. We can’t have people speaking out against gold selling now can we?
Some people even have the nerve to come up with suggestions to reduce gold selling, unacceptable.
I too find their repeated closing of threads complaining about gold sellers and even attempting to come up with solutions to be incredibly ridiculous.. especially as the message they use to close them makes it sound like people are promoting said activity. I would guess they’re trying to sweep this quite large problem under the rug.
Me, I’m not quitting the game – but I’m seriously disenchanted right now. It’s the whole ‘you have 2 weeks to a month to GRIND GRIND GRIND!’ for every event, with no useful rewards except mere cosmetics or toys that is burning me out.
Place that fast-paced cycle on top of an already intolerable ascended grind and it’s borderline disgusting.
Give me stuff that’s going to be permanently in the game that I can work at at my own pace. If I have two hours to play in a night I really shouldn’t feel pressured to grind the gauntlet till I’m sick of it just to earn gold in order to get ascended gear that’s really not gettable in any sane way otherwise.
Nor should I feel pressured to grind ANY event ‘or else’; it’s a cheap tactic and if it’s burning people out all I can say is it’s no wonder and good riddance; I hope these sorts of tactics end up forcing your numbers to take the patented Zynga plunge.
New minigames. New zones. New styles of play. That I’ll be able to play, as I wish, for the next five years or ten years, because they and the rewards for them are sticking around.
And for heaven’s sake, Arenanet. Stop pushing gems to gold conversion. It’s painfully obvious that the reason you’re not offering in-game ways to work towards rewards in a reasonable timescale and play fashion is because you want to sell people shortcuts. It’s wearing extremely thin.
Why can’t I farm t6 mats? Cuz the pricier and more time consuming they are to get, the better for the gem sales.
I seriously have to give kudos to you guys for at least awarding 1600 tokens – the price of a nice single reward – for this event’s relatively painless meta-achievement, but the fact that I am surprised that it happened.. is not good.
In any case, I’ve said this before. Less grind, more fun. You launched the game with that mantra – and since then, most every change has been a slow reversing of course. Ascended gear. Laurels. LS grindfests. Traits. Freaking kitten. I used to have so much good will for you guys.
That was a great post and largely reflects my views as well. So well said.
(Or, well, warriors need no silk.)
Seems someone isn’t so informed. They most certainly do if they want ascended armor.
We wanted to clarify for some of the comments. The suggestion is perfectly acceptable, like all others. We do not remove suggestions as they do not violate the Forum Code of Conduct.
That being said, discussions of gold selling are not allowed, nor creating posts to dispute moderation. Those topics will get threads removed and/or closed.
We hope this makes our processes more clear.
It feels like perhaps you’re not really reading the posts? You have members of this community that want to try to give suggestion on how to solve a problem, not talk about to propogate and encourage the spread of said problem.
So, we have to call them and say that our internet connection is slow and they should fix it? I really do not know what to say to them, because I am not a computer person.
Log in to GW2 and type /ip in the chat box. Make a note of the ip address (except for the very last colon and the number following it.) Go to the start menu on windows, type cmd in the box. In that prompt box that pops up type: tracert and then the ip address you noted earlier. Make sure to put a space between tracert and the ip address. Send that to your isp and also complain that they aren’t providing you a good connection to GW2 servers. They should be able to see from the trace you gave them where the problem lies or they may ask you to run a pathping, etc (which they should give instructions for.)
Nothing will happen unless enough of our isps are made aware of the problem. :/
We all need to be contacting our ISPs and getting angry with them as it seems to be down to how they are routing us to GW2’s servers.
Well I also got online.nl
Have you also had this problem reoccuring? I had it about 2-3 weeks ago. And then around 2-3 weeks before that. It keeps coming and going. Seems it’s somewhere in Frankfurt(?) that our isp is routing us through? As I can’t even play GW1 either.

You all in Europe? If so, what’s your ISP? I have online.nl.
Which is, in my mind, an important point. Dwayna, Grenth, and Balthazar have all been fairly easy to get – why should Lyssa be inherently so much more difficult?
I haven’t even been able to see what it looks like yet…
Check your wardrobe whenever you want to preview new items.
Not a poor design at all. This is the same problem we had during the Marionette fight: the inability of a large segment of the population to read the text directly under the boss’s vitals, which gives them all the information they need regarding how to beat said boss. Oh and also the inability to pay attention to map chat and get help from the people who are trying to give pointers.. or even look at the map and see the big red cross swords. The scaling may be completely out of whack, I dunno. I’ve never seen more than perhaps 20% of the zerg actually go to the healing turret.
This is precisely why I rushed those achievements.
It returned for me as well… it’s always the same kittening data center in Frankfurt (195.16.161.58) .. the hop just before ANet’s servers. It’s getting infuriating to have this problem keep coming back.
“I think we have more spies.”
That chicken song in Kessex Hills
I LOL’D
it goes like :Chickens peck and chickens munch
Chickens cluck and chickens crunch
Chickens flap and chickens croon
Chickens on the table soon!
Where exactly is this?
Now sprinkle in MegaServer and the fact that we don’t see our normal commanders from our own servers.
That’s definitely a frustrating thing. If we’d have just been with our own servers, I think more of us would be seeing more success as there’s more trust in commanders you know and for some reason more people seem to pay more attention to chat… at least that was always a difference I noticed between server vs. overflow in the past. Server maps were mostly more coordinated and successful than overflows.
If done incorrectly, with trivial effort, the Boss Blitz yields trivial rewards. If done correctly, with non-trivial effort, it yields non-trivial rewards, relatively speaking.
Then please, bestow upon us your wondrous wisdom on how to make a blob of strangers, speaking multiple languages, split into 6 equal groups without fail every single time.
I’m sick of this ‘if done correctly, it’s ezmode, mmkay’ attitude. I’ve no control over all the other people on the map with me. I can post in chat until my fingers bleed about needing to split up or kill the healing turret asap or using the bird seed, etc, etc, but that doesn’t mean a word I say will be heeded. In the 10 times I ran this event, once, just ONCE was there an attempt at splitting people up where people actually listened. Unfortunately there weren’t enough people so it still ended up being a fail.
Also, the achievements are super easy. Y’all can’t fight veterans?
I’m failing to see a lot of people expressing problems with the achievements… because they are easy (aside from the 10 events one.. that utterly sucked getting done.) So what was the point of that last bit than to be condescending?
(edited by Lothirieth.3408)
I’ve no problem removing the actual farm from the pavillion. But, and this is a big but, they should have rewarded the Blitz event properly. The “rewards” right now are really pathetic for the time that is invested.
I get that the best way to do this is to split everyone up at each boss, but seriously.. has ANet not realised yet how difficult it is to coordinate a large blob of strangers? This was sorta possible at the marionette because there was plenty of downtime before, but with this new event, there’s not a lot of pre warning.
I appreciate the revamped bosses. They’re a lot more fun, anti-zerg, anti-melee and the mechanics of kill order is interesting as well regarding how they changed the bosses. But you gotta give people a reason to come back. Without the related achievements, the pavillion would be empty. And it’s going to be empty soon once people are finished with said achievements if the rewards stay the same.
I don’t know why rewards seem to be such a difficult thing for ANet. I guess this is down to John Smith and his precious economy. :/
Provide your irrefutable facts that it is impossible to play this game without using the TP.
Since when did I say it’s impossible to play the game without the TP? Please provide irrefutable facts that I said this. Saying the TP is central to the game doesn’t mean it’s required to load the game and play it. That’s absurd as well. Don’t put words in my mouth.
Play for 30 days without using the TP in any way.
No buying.
No selling.
No gemstore purchases.
No browsing through what’s available. If, at the end of the 30 days, you say that you didn’t enjoy yourself in any way and that you were miserable due to the lack of TP involvement in the game, I will not post in this forum again. If you have any fun, however, you stop using this false argument and find one that is more logical.
Oh, I’d love not interacting with the TP as much as I do. But I’m afraid it’s necessary since most things in this game require gold or can’t be farmed in anywhere near a reliable or timely manner. Hence, it is central to the game.. if anyone wants to do anything but continually and only level toons, not giving any care to having up to date armor as they level.
Frankly your argument wasn’t at all logical. It was far too black and white, this and that and not connected to reality.
Try loging in and check for urself how dead it is
Given the megaservers are now consolidating us, this doesn’t quite work. :P
I don’t think that’s an honest assessment. The stuff in the shop doesn’t compete with the stuff that drops through gameplay so that association doesn’t make sense.
In addition, the stuff that drops through gameplay can be converted in to gold to buy the stuff in the shop … so I would say the people that resent the shop aren’t being honest on how the shop impacts their gaming.
It very much is an honest assessment. When one sees very little being added to the game available to gameplay but a very heavy focus on adding new skins to the store (and GW1 skins only available through gamble, I mean Black Lion chests), it’s quite easy and rational to see how that could breed feelings of discontent. After all we see this complaint often and people asking for more armors and weapons to be added to the game through gameplay and not the store. I very much believe if more were added to the game that could be earned directly through playing that that would quell discontent because looks are looks and this is a game heavily focused on cosmetics. I don’t even get what you mean by ‘competing’.
Giving people more choice and balancing store and game armor would surely lead to higher player satisfaction overall which would make people more amenable to spending in the store if their finances allow. I know that when the game first started, personally I had a very favourable view of the gem store, but now not so much. That is completely down to the perception of balancing the amount of new store items vs. new game items (such as some new dungeon armor or hairstyle.) The balance has been heavily skewed toward the gem store, people have noticed and some find that a bit off putting. I get ANet needs to earn money, so I largely support the gem store. I just think if they got the balance right where the focus wasn’t entirely on it, the negative opinions of it would lessen. I guess this is a subtle and subjective thing of relationship building, give and take and trust, and not making it blatantly obvious that their primary goal is to sell to us. :P Like the subtle differences between a good salesman and a sleazy one. :P [/rambling]
(edited by Lothirieth.3408)
Considering karma gear has this problem as well, I’ve no clue why you’re addressing PVE players. And it’s not like us players have any control over what ANet decides to make salvageable or not. So, what was the point of your post?
If they balanced all that with also adding new stuff we could earn in game, I think people would feel a lot more favorable to the gem shop.. and might even buy more in it. But when the focus is strongly on the gem shop, to the point that we’ve had so little added that we can earn through game play, that’s when resentment starts breeding.
I agree that Rift has a brilliant cash shop/in game reward balance going on.
I’ve had 15 drop from forge, 2 from loots. Started out playing the TP early. Made a ton of gold off of ghastly shields and wind/lightning catchers, close to 60k made off of just those 3 items, then there was a lot of money made on other various skins that I thought would go well but no where close to what I reaped from the shields.
And here we have it. Want shiny items? Don’t bother playing the game.
Love the way you designed your reward system ANet. [/sarcasm] Seriously, if I could change one thing about the game it would be that we’d have challenging content (raids, dungeons, solo missions, whatever) where those who played and completed those actually had lots of account bound shiny stuff, not the market traders. But alas that is a dream. Thanks John Smith!
Regina and really the rest of the ANet staff.. a small recommendation: find more words than ‘excited’ to use. You all have used it so much (I think Chris used it twice in one post recently?) it’s lost its impact imho (especially when you consider how some ‘exciting’ things like the megaserver have turned out.)
Anyway, I think this lull in new stuff is showing a huge weakness to the temporary content/living world thing. Other MMOs add new content to their games and leave it there which broadens the players’ choices. ANet certainly has given us lots of new content, but by removing it, it ends up sort of negating it in times like these when there’s nothing new to offer. Right now, people largely have the same activities to do as they had in the first few months after launch and that’s problematic.
There are bugs that cause you to get ruined ore nodes when certain traits activate like the warrior’s traited ‘shake it off’ or balanced stance. I believe aegis being removed will do it as well. My necromancer can harvest with several mobs hitting her and walk away with nothing ruined, yet if my warrior has any of the traits I mentioned activated whilst in the middle of harvesting (like a temple area giving a condition like the Dwayna one, which triggers shake it off), ore/wood = ruined. This has been reported months and months ago, was acknowledged, yet we’ve never seen a fix.
Whilst I do think it’s dumb to have this laundry list of boring and expensive items to collect, at least it can be done by anyone through playing the game. There is less luck involved except for the clovers, but you’re guaranteed to eventually get those finished. it’s a part of the legendary that you can grind out yourself. If they wanted Legendaries to be expensive, they got that part covered with this gift, but the insane prices of precursors and the horrid RNG that comes with them is a double whammy.
The heart of these complaints is that players feel “Entitled” to good stuff with no effort. That, and the jealousy of some over the players who do well with the market.
You keep saying this. Maybe you’re under the impression that if you repeat it enough, that will make it true? Sadly it won’t.
And once you realize that the game doesn’t revolve around the TP
Wow… just wow… that’s just.. an absurd thing to say.
1. Add fractals path containing all the rewards from the PvE fractals
2. Make it available to only high-ranked players (50/60+)
3. Problem solved
Hardly. Especially not considering the horrid RNG for fractal weapons (people who do fractals every day don’t even have a “path” to earn those weapons.) And rank farmers.
Keep specific rewards to specific content.
Make specific, unique PvP rewards only available through PvP, possibly even only through solo and team queue as well to separate hotjoin.
Absolutely unplayable latency tonight.. problem is solely at 195.16.161.58 (700ms), which belongs to Level 3 Communications (as ANet once told me in a ticket.) ANet says this isn’t their problem, it’s out of their control… but this ip address pops up very frequently with problems when you search for it on Google. Can ANet not act as an advocate for us players.. or even for itself considering Level 3 Communications is kittening ANet over as well?
The only problem with GW2 solo que is for some reason there is no full roster check, and games are allowed to start 4v5, which boggles my mind that arena net can let that slide while prioritizing making cash shop crap.
Boggles my mind too. Why start a game with one team at an automatic advantage. The unbalanced team sizes are far too common a problem.
Really…. people are going to hone in on the erroneous ‘P2Win’ bit and completely derail the thread and ignore the actual problem? Sheesh…
Even if you wanted to craft a legendary or ascendend stuff, you can’t do it only with pvp, as you have to level up a crafting profession and to get the gifts of exploration and WvW.
QQ, join the rest of the player base who also has to do those things (and also may not like doing them either.)
No thank you. Instead keep fractals how they are, with rewards specific to it and then make more spvp specific rewards.
Megaserver system is a partial success and a partial failure:
This. For leveling a new character, it’s great. For everything else.. yeah, not so much.. at all.
People seem to not understand that this actually has nothing to do with cosmetics. You have a set of PTV armor with scholar runes… that happens to be karma/WvW armor. You want to switch to beserker armor and transfer those runes over. You cannot do that now. That’s a problem and has nothing to do with cosmetics.
So AntiSaneity, you did a pretty good job of proving yourself wrong given you can’t salvage all armor and the new wardrobe transmutation wouldn’t work in that case.
Still willing to defend the megaserver? Check my attachment. I’ve a high-end computer, and I was still below the 5FPS because the screen was full of green names and special effects. Yeah, it definitely improved the game and its gameplay.
I’d recommend putting your settings on ‘Lowest’ for Character Model Limit. It makes quite the fps difference. I’ve it set on that and my fps is usually between 20-30.. which is still not acceptable of course, but playable.
