Glyphs and glyphs relaited trait:
Ranger utilities heavly supported by very strong trait synergie(survival – condi removal/fury, also our most popular utilite atm) , (shouts – prema aoe swiftness and regen) I think that our glyph synergie (seed of life) should give somthing more then condi removal and small heals. Glyphs obviously desighned for gruop oriented content, and i we play in spvp/wvw with full glyphs we have no access to stability or stun break and this the biggest weakness of glyphs(hard to heal when u’r prema stunned). Also, glyphs have cast time and the seed of life also have blooming suration which mamkes it not very reliable as condi removal mechanic. I think seed of life should give stability(not sure if only to you or group) and the glyph of alighnment / glyph of tides/glyph of unity, should function as stun break for you only and be instant. (while in celec form it could change for aoe stun break).

In prespective of current reality, I think its time to consier buffing the SB, things like SB 3(3 sec swiftnees) could easily be 3 sec super speed. Same for the cripple duration on SB 4, could easily be 6 sec and the stun/daze on SB 5 sould be 1.5 sec(like GS).

ATM, probably not, healing spells dont scale so good with healing power, one of the reasons is the fear of the celec gear stats getting out of control. If they raly want to make an healing meta, they will have to make changes to healing power stat and heals mechanic, the same way they did with condis(stacks intensity, low healing without stats, good scale with stats). Its funny they pushed a new healing stat(out going healing) to compensate for the bad healing power scaling, but you cant realy build for “out going healing” . Also we have this trait that supposed to incentivize for going healing/pwer(instinctive reaction), but becuase HP starts from 0, even an invesment of 1000 hp will give ya only 70 power bonus, which is a jock(it needs to be like 15%).

Most Dangerous Game

  • You gain 3 stack of 10s might every 3 seconds.
  • You also gain 3 stacks of 10s vulnerability every 3 seconds.
  • No health treshhold, but dangerous play.
  • You can get hit for up to 10% more damage from all sources, even conditions.
  • The fun part is that you can condition cleanse the vulnerability while holding on to the might, but it’ll be back in full force 10 seconds later.
  • your condition removal will lose its effectiveness since there is always the vulnerability to remove.
  • vulnerability not affected by own condition duration. Might is still affected by boon duration.

Talk about Most Dangerous Game. The name would be very fitting and it would also be fun to try out and not be tied down by the health treshold.

  • Love the throw back skill and trait names!
  • The new pets look just amazing.
  • Does not seem to be a lot of synergy with the other Ranger trait lines, there is some there when you look for it, but not many stand outs.
  • No aspect has any synergy whatsoever with pets. This very much needs to be addressed.

Solar Beam

  • Great that it is not a projectile. Could have a short cripple on it.

Astral Wisp

  • This could really benefit with something that interacts with the pet, “Pet attacks against this foe deal 10% more damage”. Or _"Pet attacks against this foe apply Poison for 2s".

Ancestral Grace

  • Would be better as a straight up teleport or if invulnerable during the travel time.

Vine Surge

  • May be quite difficult to actually use tactically.

Sublime Conversion

  • Looks excellent. Could this possibly be a Light field so that the projectiles actually combo and give regeneration?

General

  • Glyphs could really do with more utility such as boons, stun breaks or blast finishers.
  • Range possibly a bit small.

Glyph of Rejuvenation

  • Could do with a boon
  • Could do with more healing, its quite low when compared to Ranger’s other heals. Although with all the other healing, some other utility could be better, like Resistance or Breaking Stun and removing conditions.

Glyph of Alignment

  • Cripple duration too short

Glyph of Equality

  • Possibly shave a few seconds off the CD? See Mantra of Distraction/Power lock

Glyph of Tides

  • Looks solid, but has potential to be a troll. Possibly change the Knockback to a launch for Ancient Seed synergy. Good CD and damage.

Glyph of Empowerment

  • Perhaps a bit too short a duration for the CD. Without the trait it is only 2.5% party damage increase. Perhaps party-wide Quickness would be good on this, or increase the damage.

General

  • The skills look nice, but there are no boons whatsoever and very little damage, I’d suggest adding at least some minor AoE damage so people can get credit for tagging in PvE. Probably the most important change that could happen is to add damage to the CAF skills, purely for PvE and for triggering sigils and on-hit effects.

Cosmic Ray

  • Difficult to use a ground targeted skill as an AA and remain mobile. Ask engineers about Grenade kit carpal tunnel.

Natural Convergence

  • IF this skill is a root channel, does it have to be?

Celestial Being

  • Astral Force on damage perhaps too low, can’t be sure as yet. Perfect place to add pet synergy, make pet damage also add to the Astral Force.

  • Possibly apply this heal to the pet as well, help solve some of its survivability issues.

Natural Mender

  • Possibly too difficult to maintain the buff while not in a large group. Could also benefit to swap this trait with Natural Stride so that healing Druid is not the only effective way to play it, if you are not rolling with a group or doing lots of healing it is a wasted trait, whereas Natural Stride in its place would be of massive benefit. See Time Marches On from Mesmer.

Druidic Clarity

  • looks very solid

Cultivated Synergy

  • Possibly add a boon to this trait as Druid has none, short Resistance maybe? Even a Random boon for 10s would be amazing.

Primal Echoes

Provide the buff to the Druid on entering CAF and on both Druid and allies on exit. Or split it to Stealth on entry and Super speed on exit for both druid and allies. Or perhaps just increase the duration.

I Completely agree with you, especially about the part of Astral Gace staff skill that needs to be invulnerable, I mean whats the point it if you can be CC’ed and knocked back during the skill. Also, about Ancient Seeds trait – doesnt it already work with knocked back foes?. And Just a few extra notes:

First of all, most, if not all, of the radius of the traits and some of the staff skills (and even Glyhps as you already mentioned) are really low. This mens people need to stack up together – which in most scenarios is not possible. I suggest the radius should be higher, according to tests during the next BWE.

Moreover, I suggest adding maybe Pierce option to the staff skills (basically to the 1# staff skill that it will work with – Solar Beam). Since it will work only with 1 skill I dont think its OP , and if it is then this option can be added to a specific trait, maybe Primal Echoes.

I hope Irenio will listen to the feedback and tips in this thread (I have great hope he will since he listned to us so far).

I think the laser beam do pirce up to 3 targets, but perheps the 3 targets is apllied for the heal only.

I think glyphs should have somthing more especially while in celec form. We have very underwheling effects like stun with 40 sec CD? giving healing power buffs to allies? I dont think it will cust it. Also, all the celec weapon abilities are heals, so having our utilities as heals whle in celec form feels like a waste of resources.

If its caculated per tic for you and your pet and regen/sotw/tu tics count, the force bar will charge super fast, even if you 1vs1, dont do any damage, dont use any other source of healing.

We are suppose to be proactive not reactive. While the condi cleanse is nice some of the heal could have been tone down and given us tools to mitigate both physical and condi damage ,so resistance and protection should have been in there somewhere.

*Grace of the Land – When you enter Celestial Avatar form, incoming condition damage is reduced by 33% for you and your allies.

*We have lots of aoe weakness already and some protaction on ourself . Even more now with WHAO change.

They gave us massive amount of aoe condi removal, some examples: the seed of life thing, and if you have glypsh traited that bring even more seeds of life and the GM trait that reduce damage from condis by 33%. Not good enough?

We will not have perma protection from guard alone, I’m sure there will be some balancing done to it to avoid that.

I think the boon share will work like Fortifying Bond, so when you use heal as one you will not get the duration of the boons that the pet has (and vice versa) but a set duration for each boon which is then augmented by duration.

I can totally see protection being 3 sec, infact it would not be surprising if the new hao has the exact same boon duration for shared boons as Fortifying Bond.

You’r probably right but a man can dream. Well if it will be as FB it will favor might sharing so axe will be very good and companion’s might trait(even better now that pets have condi dmage).

The WHAO change is crazy, especially now that WHAO stacks with healing power and have 16 sec CD when traited. If you have fortifying bond, stalker alone is 10 might, frost spirit combos, prema protaction from guard on you. RIP taunt, Hello ZS.

The spider is kinda cluncy with taunt, the only reason i could think of to justify the pick is EB(spiders can take condis better than mist pes).

Uh, that’s “a lot”.
Pls try to understand me, what i want to say is that even if other professions have access to stealth (even better than thief) we are the only one with 1 trait line dedicated to stealth (which provides our best way to survive) and weapon skills, that are taken into consideration balancing the profession.
Taking them away, to compensate a mess done with stealth to other professions is just not fair, since they are unbalancing thief.

I really do, don’t get me wrong, I do think thieves are lacking the teeth they once had. But i don’t think the stealth counters are the reason.

I mean, the class is balanced around it, with “normal skills” toned down to compensate the powerful stealth skills.
So why are we the only profession with a hard counter to our mechanic?
Everyone suffers from stun, daze, KD, KB etc etc but there isn’t a skill that prevents a warrior’s eviscerate or a ranger pewpew, so why in the earth there must be something that prevents a backstab?

If the “puff” part of stealth is too strong, let reveal affects only visibility so we can have the stealth buff (with all of our skills) but be visibile to foes.

And for the “chain backstab” problem, we can have 2 types of reveal. Self reveal, applied after a hit from stealth, that will work like it is now, and the reveal applied from others that will let us access stealth abilities while not being stealthed.

I gusse you missed the part where every profession got atleast one reflection skill, meny of them as low CD weapon skills. Same here, range is not ranger mechanic but LB rapid fire (pewpew) will suffer the most. They even use LB rapid fire on golems for demonsration of the new reflction skills.

Your build while abit strange, looks solid enough to handle all warriors builds.
Just one tip, check that the warrior has no stability/resistance and berserk mode before using pet taunt ability. Good taunt use alone can do the work for you.

I’m not even a ranger player yet the idea of a caster ranger excites me… It’s so nebulous right now that I’m getting angsty aswell … it better be revealed along the scrapper on this last PoI !

because I had phew build that were capable to uphold swiftness by 2 minutes but then it went for cd – aka was not perma but 2 minute of swiftness burst :P

[so by your theory it should be perma but it was not because of cooldowns]

[before someone will eat me – it was not like there was a cooldown linger than two minute – that “burst” was about cyling phew skills wnehever ther went off cd and after sth like two minutes one fo them was going “out of synch” making it drop swift for some time and by thus it was not perma swiftness build – even if capable of upholding it for two minutes – but then it was long ago and soem balancing occured meanwhile so I dunno how it would work now…..]

So I’ll make this clear. Ranger has lots of ways to mintain prema swiftness in most possible scenarios, in and out of combat. Not sure about the benchmark of 2 min but it doesnt matter if its prema 2 min or prema 30 sec.

20sec swiftness after a kill.
If they just running camps/sentries/dolyaks with a reasonable kill speed it wouldn’t be too hard to hit a min swiftness on average I would think. More then that would be tough cause node cap time.

I think I will try it and see for science.

Before the big “trait changes patch” I used to run with pack rune sigil of speed and the 30% boon duration from trait line. I could stack up to 4 – 4.5 min of swiftness by killing wvw wolves. Now i get prema swiftnees from shouts.

Yeah pack runes would be amazing rune for the setup. I guess with all those stats there is a reason for the 5g price tag.

taunt is pretty much broken, going through evades, blocks, blinds and has no casting time/animation while being on a cooldown of 15s. many rangers try to defend this trait because it makes them feel like they can be good with it because it removes the need of actually having to land your pet immobs or knockdowns to burst. rangers should get buffs but not stuff like this that angers the whole rest of the community.

" it makes them feel like they can be good with it because it removes the need of actually having to land your pet immobs or knockdowns to burst" – That is the most ridiculous statment you have made, the immob from spiders adn KD from wolves are passive and very much RNG, ranger put no effort on integrate them into his combat moves, if it lands, it lands. Taunt do requier an active play as mentioned above.

I’m not syaing taunt shouldnt be looked at closly by the developers but i’m not confident it is OP, I think that on any scenario, it should stay on 15 sec CD and be unblockable, not sure about unevadble by skills. As a ranger that often duel other rangers I dont c to much of a problem playing around taunt, I just time right my stablity uptime and dont even bother to check pet position.

it is not predictable most of the time, you do not know when a ranger is going to cast the pet skill and taunt has no skill animation as the taunt starts with the casting time of pet skills, like with the wolf fear. you will have the rangers pet on you most of the time so activating the taunt is not as telegraphed as you want to make it look like.

wrong, first, the spider has 1 immob as f2 and 2nd the pets will always try to use their skills with the longest cooldowns first. so if you switch in a canine it will always try to use its knockdown first if the target is in range, you can very well play with that but people just don’t care about figuring out such stuff.

not every class has access to stability on demand and taunt can be very problematic for them, especially if it doesn’t let them block or evade it.

The paly around is just to keep 240 distance from the pet, when a thief or a mesmer blink out for example and jump back on you, the pet will take a tour to the blink location and back, which makes the ranger to swap alot and closen the distance, it a very active play espcially to a long range play of style like the LB. Also stability and resistance uptime, vs a ranger I just ask myself, if I have nee tuaned for the last 10 sec, if not I prepare for it with RAO or SOTW or just keeping an eye out for the pet location.
And BTW if you use wolf u’ll never get the taunt even remotly close to 15 sec CD as the wolf F2 alone is 36 sec CD(traited). So the CD is not as short as you want to make it look like.

Most rangers know about swapping a pet, praying for the brutal charge/tail swipe , but like most things about the pet, its very unrelibale and clunky and doesnt alwasy work. Just check it on dummy target and c how much times it will happend out of 10 tries.
When playing vs good playes you dont realy like to be in a position where you have to pray for somthing to go of. And ya, there is a reason why lots of players used to take forest spider over the jungle one, low chance to land that single projactile once every 45 sec(36 if traited).

I think now almost every class got some sord of stability/resistance/Invulnerability uptime, even necros(repear stablity uptime is insane). On some builds its very hard to land even a single taunt.

You keep preaching this statment but its full of inaccuracies.

The skill is not insta cast, insta cast means that somthing will accour when you activate it. on average your pet F2 will be activated like 5 sec after pressing the F2, depends on the pet/ depends on the F2 type. To have insta cast taunt, it needs to be out of CD(which you cant be always 100% sure it actually is) and you need to swap pet +F2 and even this combo that reqiers 3requirements(F4 is not on CD, taunt is not on CD, F2 in not on CD), wont always work.

The skill is very much predictable and evadble because it attached to a very predictable and evadble AI attack patterns , to play around the ever chasing pet syndrome that cant land a single hit, ranger has to closen up the distnace of the fight and use F4 combos alot(as mentioned above).

Ya, it ignores blocks/blinds and skill evades( but not dodges) taunt is not the only skill in the game that function this way(gurdian GS comes to mind), but remeber that pet cant realy cleanse blinds, break stuns, , evade skill etc.. and its very easy to kill espically for condi builds(lets c u survive with 9 burns with no way to cleans).

Taunt do requier an active play as mentioned above.

I’m not syaing taunt shouldnt be looked at closly by the developers but i’m not confident it is OP, I think that on any scenario, it should stay on 15 sec CD and be unblockable, not sure about unevadble by skills. As a ranger that often duel other rangers I dont c to much of a problem playing around taunt, I just time right my stablity uptime and dont even bother to check pet position.

Its not only the bug, the new 2 traits that replenish LF makes LF regeneration just insane, reapers dont even need to abuse this bug anymore, they can start a fight with 0% LF and get it to 100% in no time.

Not all of the times, but you know where I’m getting at.

Just had a 25 min fight with celec D/D ele on OS, no winnrer. mybe a skilled Quickdraw ranger have enough burst to do it.

Advice desired for solo survival build

My ranger is my first character. I have learned a lot with the LB/SA spotter build on metabattle.com but I am looking to improve my survivability for the menial “first charcter” type of stuff: gathering + crafting, loot trains, exploring + map completion, getting stuck with a few too many enemies, and the often painful and not-so-solo-newbie-friendly Living Season 2 story (shakes fist at Chapter 5).

I currently use Berserker armour, weapons and accessories with Scholar runes (mostly exotic but a few ascended and rare items). For me, this is a bit too DPS-focused. I need to find something a bit more “tanky” or “hybrid-y” I guess.

I have been reading up on Celestial gear + Traveler runes, and have also wondered about Soldier’s gear + Dolyak runes (probable overkill for most people).

WvWvW and PvP are simply not on the radar for this character. I will make others for that, when I feel I am ready to explore those mini-games. I do dungeons and fractals often enough, but a dungeon-focused build is not what I need at the moment.

I cannot find any builds, anywhere which cover my needs. And so I have come to these forums asking for advice. Please be aware that gold is a limited resource for me (20-50 is my current range) and so I need to have reasonable confidence in “the new gear” before I craft/buy/acquire it.

Possibly of note is that my Leatherworking and Huntsman skills are each in the 420-435 range and that I have over 200k Karma, possibly for buying exotic Soldier (or other set) gear.

As a relative newcomer to the game, I am looking to develop a fairly detailed understanding of gear in the game, so please do not short-cut the explanations in the hope that I might understand (I probably won’t, for the record).

Many thanks in advance for the suggestions, advice and discussion.

Celec is not a good stat for most LB builds and also not recommendable for PVE.
you want survivebility? stick with your zerk armor and just trait for tankiness its much cheaper and the result might be even better compared to run offesive traits with celec gear and dolyak rune.

You can even switch LR/ QZ for “protect me” for even more defence.

Quickness increases the speed of ressing by 25% according to the wiki, so its not better.

Quickness is working for both you and your pet, mercy bonos apply only to you, so it is better. (and ofc you qz brings the utility to be good in other aspects of the game).

Never go full healer/reviver, its gimmiky sure, but not very useful.
half measures: The rez trait is very good always take it, the utility is not(doesnt worth a utility spot). The cleric amulet and mercy rune are an overkill. Even ranger got some solid celec build options.

btw, it wouldn’t surprise me if we didn’t get glyphs or aspects at all. Maybe we still get concecrations or mantras or something. Maybe they ran out of time and instead of coming up with 18 skills they would only have to come up with 6.

It’s pretty interesting that the colors don’t seem to add up. There are 3 bright red ones, but not 5 for example and then there are some different shades of green and blue, but none complete a set of 5 and rarely a set of 3 or more. Also one glyph has as set of 4 icons and another has a set of 2 icons.

Another interesting thing is that elementalist Glyph icons don’t change color when switching attunements. So why should the Ranger?

those are only "place holder icons, taken from gw1 glyphs so dont dwell to much into the colors or the 4-2 icons, whats important is that we have another independence source that suggests some one is getting glyphs. Its an old data mine so most ppl thought its for eles, but now that only engis and ranger left most chances those place holders are for rangers. Also we its noticeable there are 6 sets of iconts like the 6 utilities every elite specialization is getting(heal – 4 utilities – elite)

Data mining suggests we’r getting aspects and glyphs, Which is kinda a combination of what you would like to c. The aspects are probably “small-scale” attunements. We have clues from datamining that there will be 3 of them, so probably not seasons, more likely animal spects(bird/wolf/ bear) or Zephyrite Aspects(Lightning, wind, sun- which is kinda close to your seasons idea).
