I’ll tell you a little secret about the krait, that’s perhaps not so secret, but that may help you understand how and why they’ve changed since GW1. The krait once believed themselves to be the top of the food chain.

But, in these intervening years, they’ve been attacked, driven from their deeps, scattered into smaller groups, and forced to move into more shallow waters. The rise of the dragons gave them a little taste of humble pie. (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Unending_Ocean)

This group of krait are hungry to regain their previous level of power and confidence, and they believe that the one way they can do it is via their prophets. And Scarlet offered them a chance to take back what they’ve lost.

As the wiki says, “Krait doctrine fortells the return of the obelisks’ prophets, bringing with them massive armies to flood the surface of the world and destroy other species.” (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Krait)

They may have wished they could do it a different way, but this particular group of krait agreed to Scarlet’s offer of obelisk shards and the chance to “grow” a prophet.

Are we playing the same game? The Kraits were all over the Tarnished Coast by the time the heroes of GW 1 reach the EotN and I am pretty sure they would have knew they weren’t the top of the food chain with all those Dinosaurs running around and chopping everything with their Twisting Jaws.

As for the recent Kraits that came out of the sea, I can’t fathom to think that they would place their alliance with Scarlet with all the thing she done for “them”. After having their prophet kill, having countless of countless of Kraits dead in those countless amount of Living Story events, having them work with an equally xenophobic group of sylvari (which I can’t fathom as to why THEY would work with Scarlet) with no other reason other that combining toxin, and watching your employer insult you with all those “sssssssssss”, you would think there was a point where the Krait would just abandon Scarlet altogether. But I guess I am not in charge of writing up the lore and making it “sense” to fit the Living Story.

The Kraits are better off allying with an elder dragon.

The Nightmare Court would ally with Scarlet cause what she is doing is their thing to a tee.

The Krait were top of the food chain in the same way humans are. Krait were a society and if they wanted to they could have slaughtered the dinosaurs or other large predators. They were top dog until an elder dragon came along and utterly kicked their kitten.

The Krait are a theocratic society. There religion is central to all they do. Scarlet turns up and offers them the equivalent of fragments of a relic which would cause the second coming. That’s huge for them. They may hate Scarlet but what she offers them is too good to pass up.

And no one would be better off allying with a Elder Dragon.

That actually makes a lot of sense.

I think this is a problem that GW2 has struggled with. When detailed and explained, things like the context here allow things to make a lot of sense. One of the things I’ve loved about the past 5 – 6 releases is that that context is being far better presented. Its a real struggle cause really for the average player, they need to be aware of that context without having to dig too deeply.

GW2 perhaps is particularly prone to this issue since it has a very detailed history set 250 years in the past. For a lot of old lore much has happened since then but being unaware of the details of those changes, the stark differences now make things look more like a retcon than an natural evolution. Its a tricky problem, to be sure.

Its a funny thing I’ve had with the LS. I’ve had several discussions with people who haven’t seen the last 4 releases either to having only just started playing again or having not played in a long time. Universally the issues seem to be that they see scarlet as shallow and what she does as silly and unrealistic. After I explain the detail behind the event though they usually say ‘oh, that makes sense’.

Context is really big and hard to draw in small bits.

I will say I found the calendar change a strange one. I would have expected that civilisations in the past as obsessed with celestial bodies as they were would have noticed a number of missing days.

So, what's up with Rytlock?

kasmeer smells fishy

in Lore

Posted by: Lutinz.6915

Lutinz.6915

I don’t think Kasmeer has any ulterior motives. She sounded like she was kind of desperate when she applied for the job from Marjory. After all its likely she didn’t have a lot of options for jobs among the commoner classes since she wouldn’t have had much practical training or experience in working in that part of society and her family was shamed among noble circles.

I kind of have a feeling we will find out there was more to her father’s death if we ever get back to dealing with the corruption in the Krytan Ministry. There is no real proof but the whole shaming and death of her father sounds like it could easily have been an underhanded political move by her father’s enemies to get rid of him. Set up the son to leave the father exposed and then move in on the father. It wouldn’t be the first time we have seen ministers loyal to the queen get set up.

LA NPC M.I.A. List

Has anyone checked under LA in the sewer tunnels? Anet has stated that full map completion is still possible and iirc there is a POI that you have to swim thru the sewers to get. That would be a great place for the skritt to take refuge.

Yeah, I looked down there, no skritt.

Other NPCs that seem to be unaccounted for:

The female Norn owner of the bar on the east side outside the city

The bartender of the Cloud Skimmer Tavern

The three woman and silvari who do the pub crawl

The woman who lives on the island to the east where Cobiah Mariner’s tombstone is

The blond guy in the swimming trunks next to the diving board

The guy who owned the little boat near the Traders Forum

The female norn bar owner is at the Priory Refugee Camp. Her dialog says she was returning from buying ale to discover the city had been attacked.

Evon Gnashblade - Hero of Lion's Arch

Nah, that was Captain Shudd, not Evon. She’s the one in charge of the Asura gates.

As much as I enjoy watching Evon squirm during all of this (seriously, Evon, you’re the RICHEST merchant in all of Tyria, and you’re selling me almost the exact same stuff that I can get at any other merchant in Tyria?), I won’t apportion blame to him that he isn’t responsible for.

That said… Come on, Evon. You KNEW that LA was going to be attacked. Yet you didn’t seem to have taken any other additional precautions about it. You didn’t hire any additional guards for your caravans (I had to save your dolyaks for you), didn’t have an evacuation plan for your employees (you abandoned them to die in the burning ruins of the BLTC building), and you didn’t bother stockpiling medical supplies and other goods that would be in high demand during an emergency (and you call yourself a merchant…)

http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1yehf3/what_the_hell_evon/

This made me somewhat less sympathetic towards Evon.

Notable things in LA

Things to note:

The “little probes” are actually the miasma containers.

The Molten Alliance machines are all around the Breachmaker, but mostly only the ones pointing towards the sky. The other sonic devices are only found at the Gunnery Range.

Checked the Whispers HQ there, nothing of interest.

Magnus mini despicts him with an eye-patch on the left eye and the right one is completely red.

After the fight against the Molten Beserker, Magnus says something along the lines of ‘I cant see’. Not sure if its the beserker or the Miasma. The doc at the Vigil Keep Refugee camp mentions that they are losing about half the people that come in who are affected by it and the rest will probably have respiratory problems for life.

If you talk to the people around the camps it’s actually pretty bleak. Apparently the bulk of the Lionguard are already down for the count or dead. There are a lot of badly injured people and people who have lost love ones. The games rating wouldn’t allow them to have them in the game world but the refugees talk about mass graves. ALOT of people are dying from this attack.

Few things I noted:

- Ho-Ho-tron, now Heal-a- tron, is being hunted by the Seraph. He approaches Evon Gnashblade about some type of combat upgrade, but the upgrade sound purely defensive in nature.

- Evon has gotten conscripted into the Lionguard as a quartermaster thanks to Ellen Keil. He’s not to happy about it.

- I haven’t seen how Canach gets from his cage in the Vigil Keep to LA but he appears with Ellen Keil at the end of the Molten Beserker event at Fort Marriner to evaculate Magnus.

Note about the house with the force field. Isn’t that the house of the Priory agent from the Priory Personal story?

What happens if the Magic grows too strong?

in Lore

Posted by: Lutinz.6915

Lutinz.6915

It’s possible that the increased level of magic might just lead to new dragons forming. If the dragons are a natural phenomenon it could be that elevated magic is what lead them to forming in the first place.

One question that we don’t have any answers to yet is how natural is the ED’s current state? Were they always like this or did something happen long ago that started this cycle? If so what messed up so badly in Tyria’s ancient history that lead to the ED’s becoming what they are?

We actually know very little about the EDs still. We know that locally we have 6 to worry about. We know they consume magic and release energy that corrupts things around them. From the glimpse we saw into Kralkatorik’s mind we have seen they are driven by an massive hunger.

Perhaps it is the dragon corruption itself which is the cause. We know that all ED’s release this corrupting energy. However what if the ED’s themselves are corrupted by that energy? What if the EDs ended up being very much like the minion’s they control, victims of a corrupting power that turns them into monsters?

We know that the ability to absorb magic wasn’t limited to just the EDs. Glint’s corpse was so valuable because it had absorbed magic over thousands of years. Its not beyond reason that Dragons like Glint could be the answer to how Tyria could handle magical build up without the EDs around.

•No decision has been made for GW2 expansion for now the focus is provide the LW updates and bring GW2 to China they will update when they have more visibility on the issue of an expansion

I’m I the only one who read the bolded part and read between the lines?

Translation: They aren’t going to talk about a possible expansion for GW2 in a public earnings report before Arenanet are ready to reveal what they have been working on.

This doesn’t translate into ‘they aren’t working on an expansion’. It means they aren’t going to throw such information out until Arenanet are ready to announce it themselves.

Why? Cause the first thing that would happen is Arenanet would be bombarded with questions about something they aren’t ready to talk about and the hype train would take off completely generated by an overexcited playerbase making random assumptions on what an expansion would mean.

We should really stop looking to non Arenanet sources for expansion info.

Logan and queen Jenna new info

Technically Logan is under a spell from Jennah. It allows him to be aware of whenever she is in danger so he can head to her to save her.

If you guys are still trying to sell the idea that Logan is under some sort of spell that makes him love Jennah then I think your cluching at straws, particularly when the devs themselves have said that Jennah and Logan’s attraction and affection to each other are real.

Infact many of the core emotional issues Logan has been struggling with in his narrative have been tied to that. Just say ‘oh, he was being mind controlled the whole time’ would make that really superficial. The whole point of his actions at the end of Edge of Destiny was that there was no good choice for him, only bad choices. He either abandoned his friends and save Jennah or stay with is friends and let Jennah die. Either way he was screwed and would have failed someone.

Keep your Quaggans out of my game please. They are filthy sea vermin that need to be exterminated asap.

Every time a Quaggan opens it’s mouth the collective intelligence of Tyria decreases tenfold.

Death to all Quaggans. This is all.

(But seriously, I do agree that it might be nice to see Dougal do something – I know that not everyone has read the novel, but I don’t feel like the story of Dougal (really who named him…) ends here.)

I used to share your feelings about Quaggans somewhat but having a swarm of them in the PS go all giant pahrana and swarm around me mauling Icebrood was kind of awesome. That and I find the irony that their naturally evolved defence mechanism is one of the main sources of their vunerability interesting.

Lutinz.6915

Ive been spending some time wondering around LA and exploring it once more before the next patch and it got me thinking.

There are some very interesting characters and racial progression that already have some development who could fit well into the LS as it develop.

Two stuck out to me from my wonderings in LA.

The first was Dougal Keane. Now sure, he hasnt done much in game but he is one of my favorate characters from the books and he works for the vigil. If we see dragon related content in the second season he could be introduced again particularly if we have any delving into lost ruins type of content.

The second was the Quaggan. Now obviously the Quaggan usually mainly get milked for being cute and cuddly looking. They are peaceful and usually good natured.

However one thing I got playing throught the PS and leveling originally was a sense that the Quaggan got pushed around not because they were unable to fight. Infact, the PS showed that Quaggan were infact capable of being highly dangerous as well has being powerful spellcasters. The Quaggan have been victims because their social taboo towards beserking is so deeply ingrained that they will often be a victim over fighting back. The whole Quaggan story has been one of them running away.

We have seen a couple of Quaggan in the PS who after the Tower of Nightmares have fled to LA to try and finally find peace. That looks like it will be short lived. To me, with the distruction of LA, it seems the Quaggan have really run out of safe places to run to.

Id like to see something I you got an sense of the start of if you helped the Quaggan in the PS. Id like to see Quaggan start draw a line in the sand and chose to run no longer and instead fight. The little butter balls have been kicked around too long. Time for them to make a stand.

What characters or plots would you guys like to see expanded on in the current direction of the LS. God knows their has to be enough threads available.

Why do people think LA will be rebuilt?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Lutinz.6915

Lutinz.6915

Unless there is some perminant reason such as the place is radioactive or dangerous to live in, there is little reason in lore why they wouldn’t rebuild LA lore wise. After all it sits at an important trading junction and that alone would make it valuable land to resettle.

Of course if something else happens which renders LA uninhabitable, I suspect we will see the new hub situated wherever the main services relocate too which could easily be a new hub. After all, those refugees have to move somewhere.

What will happen to LA? Your thoughts?

Lutinz.6915

Id say by this point there wouldn’t be any major changes to the approaching release since they would literally be in the QA testing by this point.

We will definitely see LA burn now. I do expect it to be rebuilt though unless it gets irradiated or something. Its location is simply to valuable as a trade hub to be ignored by people and if most of the Captains Council is still alive I suspect they will definitely want to take it back afterwards.

sylvari servants of Mordremoth?

Its worth pointing out state of mind does seem to reflect on a Sylvari’s appearance. At least this was Arenanet’s explanation of the chance in appearance for Canach between the Lost Shores and Secrets of Southsun, attributed to the stress and strain caused by being constantly hunted by head hunters the Consortium sent.

I got the distinct impression Rytlock was trying to get her to give up. Why is a different question. There is actually quite a bit about the Stone Warband we don’t really know.

Note that when Rytlock first met Logan he was posted almost on the opposite side of Ascalon to his Warband by his own choosing. We never find out though why Rytlock wanted to be so far away from his Warband but I smell potential internal issues there. Rox, if she gets in, my find things aren’t quite as rosy after all being in the Stone Warband, ignoring the fact that all of them sound like they outrank her considerably.

Theorycrafting on Scarlet

in Lore

Posted by: Lutinz.6915

Lutinz.6915

My bet is that it is Mordremoth, and he’s using the Dream somehow – no I don’t support the theory that sylvari are his minions because the Dream is not unique to sylvari – to spread the Nightmare and though Scarlet isn’t of the Nightmare Court, I think she’s influenced by the Nightmare – but on a more direct level.

Going against the Konig, but here goes…

That would require a dragon being able to breach into a metaphysical location like the Dream, and so far we haven’t quite seen them capable of doing so. I don’t recall seeing any dragon minions within the Mists, but I could be wrong. If we were to believe that the Dream is a part of Mordremoth, then that goes into the question of just why a jungle dragon would have something like that, and how the sylvari are able to not only access it but believe they draw their Wyld Hunts from it.

So I’m not entirely convinced its Mordremoth or any of the other dragons. The big question is ‘what exactly is the Dream’. A part of Mordremoth? A part of the Mists? Something else entirely?

Hmm. A solution for that.

What if Mordremoth has already corrupted another ‘Pale Tree’. We know their are ones out there. What if he managed to corrupt one and make it a champion. Perhaps Malyck’s tree didn’t lose him. Perhaps his pod fell free when that tree was under attack. Perhaps that tree is even one corrupted and it shed its final fruit to spare them from the corruption.

Theres a lot we don’t know about the Dream and the Sylvari’s connection to it and the Pale Tree. Perhaps the Pale Tree is a conduit for the Sylvari. Perhaps if it died the Sylvari would become cut off from the Dream. Perhaps that’s why Malyck has no connection to it.

The voice could be a champion of Mordremoth rather than the Dragon itself. A corrupt ‘Pale Tree’ could easily fill the role in the same way the Sons of Svanir used a Havruin to access the Mists.

And since they would rather not A) die, and have a giant hole where their city used to be, they will probably attempt to intervene. Which is why they have to be exterminated first.

The New Lion’s Arch

If they can find some way to get around the Personal Story issue that could be very awesome. I remember when I first played Guild Wars being blown away when the Searing happened and the landscape and city you had been playing in was suddenly turned into a desolate wasteland.

Lutinz.6915

If the plot of the Living Story is going the way I think it is going, it wouldn’t have worked for an Asura to play Scarlet.

The asura in Rata Sum in Living Story has pretty much said that the colleges let her in as much to study her as because she was capable. They were interested in her intellect and why she was such an outlier from the normal Sylvari. By training her they could observe her.

And norn are emotional all the time particularly about friends and companions.

Lutinz.6915

I don’t think the sylvari being minions or spawn of a dragon are likely. My gut feeling is that the Pale Tree and its ilk are the result of the work of the druids and possibly Melandru. The fact that they are humanoid, in sinc with the natural world and even one of their elite skills which summons a druid spirit makes me believe this.

I do think though that something dragon related is touching the Dream of Dreams. After all we know that the Dream isn’t sylvari exculsive. They are just all networked to it thanks to the Pale Tree.

My guess is that the Jungle Dragon isn’t fully awakened yet. After all we have seen very little sign of it. The fact that the Maguuma could be drying up could be the result of it feeding on its surroundings as it tries to wake. At the same time, we know its not unusual for Dragon Champions to be active prior to a dragon awakening.

My theory is that something like a Dragon Champion, perhaps a corrupted Pale Tree influenced by being exposed to the Jungle Dragon ala Svarnir, has access to the Dream and is perhaps the source of the Nightmare. All Sylvari are connected to the dream but the Pale Tree instilled in her children protections that shield them from the dangerous influences in the Dream.

It wasn’t just Ceara’s mind that went into that box with her. She was still connected to the Dream. The moment her mental defences were disabled, it left her completely vulnerable to anything lurking out their in the dream. Once it got in, she could never get it out.

Theorycrafting on Scarlet

in Lore

Posted by: Lutinz.6915

Lutinz.6915

That was a very revealing instance.

So we get some interesting info from the items. Things that stuck out for me:

- The Molten Alliance provided Scarlet with the technology she needed to create the probes.

- The Aetherblades provided her a airforce to give her military superiority. It also provided her the basis for the Aethertech which she has used to develop the Aethercannon.

- The Watchknights she gained control of from studying the Steam Creatures that the Watchknights are based off. In her hologram she shows a particular interest in Golems was a means for combining the different diciplines of Statics and Dynamics. They provide her highly versatile shock troops.

- Apparently the artefact taken from the reactor explosion was saturated in Dragon magic.

- Scarlet managed to use the Tower of Nightmares to create a toxin that is resistant to the effects of the Antitoxin making it even more deadly.

- Interestingly her first Journal entry is 1321 and the entries seem to go over 3-4 years. Do we know what date she went into Omadd’s device?

- According to Vropp, the Omadd’s notes said that the device he put Scarlet into was designed to completely lower the mind’s defences and open it up completely to the Eternal Alchemy. Vropp theorises that what Scarlet saw was something already inside her by that she had been shielded from.

My guess is that whatever she saw, she saw through the Dream. It would make sense that during her vision it was the Pale Tree that tried to stop her if where her mind wondered was into the depths of the Dream. What she found and was completely unprotected against was whatever dwelled deeply in there. My guess is that is what ‘secret’ she shared with Caithe. Caithe knows what Scarlet saw and unlike Caithe, Scarlet was completely unprotected from it.

Scarlet seems to be building a lot of firepower but I don’t think that her target is simply Lion’s Arch. I think the people of Tyria are just in her way. She is after something else and I suspect the scale of the weaponry she has built is to be unleashed on that.

So what is controlling her and why is she after the Ley Lines? My guess is she is after a hub in the Ley Lines to trigger something. Perhaps she hopes to manipulate or damage the Ley Lines to force something out into the open where she can attack it.

As to what is manipulating her, what if its one of Jungle Dragon’s Champions? What if doing what she is doing is what it needs to finally wake the sleeping Jungle Dragon? I don’t think the Sylvari directly linked to the Dragons. I think its more likely they are tied to the Druids.

Its so hard to guess where this is going but its certainly getting interesting. Hopefully in the second season they will give us more to speculate on before the end cause this is actually getting good.

Meanings of the names 'Ceara' and 'Scarlet'

Hey here is an utterly crazy crackpot theory. Ceara is Mr E. She is a split personality, a remanent of the original person still free of whatever entity is possessing Scarlet Briar’s mind trying that is attempting to self sabotage in the hopes we can stop her from unleashing what ever she is trying to dig up.

Utterly unlikely and someone else probably already thought of it. With the right lead in through it could have made an amazing plot twist.

They can hardly list all the questions they couldn’t answer yet. That would take up far to much space. You need to consider for a moment exactly how many questions they would have actually gotten.

This was supposed to be a quick Q&A thing.

As for most of the things you raise about char we know most of the answers.

Charr ageing seems to be consistent with human aging.

Charr are allowed in Ebonhawk by virtue of the treaty.

There is nothing suggesting Charr have any more issue with parasites or personal hygiene than humans do.

We have also seen nothing to suggest that Gladium children aren’t raised in Fahrars. Most not raised in Fahrars are like the ones in LA who are being raised away from Charr lands.

The thing with Lore questions is that sometimes they touch on stuff the devs don’t want to reveal yet or that they haven’t made a call on yet. Making up lore to answer questions on the fly can be risky as it tends to lead to issues later on with consistency. Blizz was just the same with their old lore Q&A.

Having said that I think we got some interesting answers. The info on the map in the Order of Whispers base is curious, particularly if we can figure out what we are looking at on the map.

I liked the Ogre and Centaur answers too.

I cant speak for the Wurm encounter but Ive had no problem getting involved with the Marronette and with decent numbers (second time was on an overflow). Obviously neither time was a successful kill but most there were learning how the fight went and we still did pretty well over all.

The fights aren’t all there are. Just doing the Marronette allows you to proceed with the story part of the LS weither you fail or not. The instance in LA was well done and developed the characters there nicely. The rest is a scavenger hunt Im still working on that unlocks details on Scarlets story.

Over all personally Ive been pretty satisfied and I haven’t even done the Wurm.

Wooden Potatoes got one detail wrong in his video and that was that Kasmeer’s father is dead. He died in Jail. Got shived by the sound of it.

I might be reading too much into it but Im kind of wondering if they are laying the groundwork for future living story there. Something like Kasmeer’s father getting set up by members of the ministry so he could be removed from power. Kasmeer does state that a minister now lives in her old home.

As for Scarlet, its pretty clear now she is a puppet. Interestingly the Durmond Priory Erin(?) in the instance who gives the summary of what we know of Scarlet points out that each of the Alliances seem to have an elemental theme. The Molten Alliance provided Earth and Fire. The Aetherblades and Inquest Air. And the Toxic Alliance Water.

Between the probes and the drill thing Id say its safe to say she is looking for something. The fact she is also testing a superweapon makes me wonder if she is hunting for something specific beneath the earth to unleash said weapon on.

Why would an Elder Dragon be in the dream? Makes more sense for it to have been a god like being. Abaddon could always return.

How? Even if some trace of his will survived his power and knowledge was taken by Kormir.

Celestial Gossamer error in Discovery

in Crafting

Its rather remiss that there is no indication in game that Celestial crafting operates any different to the other varieties in how the patterns are learned. I planned out my levelling of Armorsmithing not knowing this and its left me with bags full of part that I cant use, a stack of Insignias which I cant use and no mats left with which to make alternate Insignias.

No I have to either sell or my crafted parts at a major loss of gold and by replacement mats or spend even more gold on recipes that will give me a very small amount of progression.

Now sure, if I had checked a guide I probably would have known this was going to happen but expecting players to have to look up third party guides to use and understand a games crafting system is just bad game design. Intuitively anyone who had been levelling a crafting profession would be expecting Celestial patterns to function the same way. At the very least there should be some kind of warning. Most players don’t use guides.

Sylvari intelligence

in Lore

Lutinz.6915

I get the feeling that Scarlet is a extremely and unusually smart individual for any race, not just Sylvari. Its not that she is Sylvari. Its that she is insanely intelligent.

There is, frankly, alot we dont know about her. We cant even be sure she is from the Pale Tree. Hell, we cant even be entirely sure that the Pale Tree’s sylvari were the very first to grow.

Scarlet is a character I suspect we will learn more about over time. This is an introduction. There’s alot we dont know about her but her intellect explains how she has formed the Molten Alliance, the Aetherblades and how she is controlling the Steam Creatures. Her connection to the asuran colleges also explains how she got connections with the Inquest. Its still possible that she does originate from a completely different timeline.

What Ive been wondering about is what is she trying to do? And also, how does Mr. E fit into all of this? True, Marjory and Mr. E met dealing with corruption in the Ministry but Mr. E also was the one who pointed us towards the Aetherblades and sent us to Marjory.

We are discovering alot but there is still alot more left to learn.

I hope Scarlet isn’t the personal nemesis that you guys had in mind. She would be a really disappointing nemesis.

Don’t worry. Kiel is pulling all the strings here. Mark my words…

I don’t get why people keep trying to point at Kiel since the theories involving her made no sense whatsoever to begin with.

I think Scarlet Briar is interesting. Its not been a bad introduction for her. I do hope we get to see more about her and her motivations later. The super smart thing fits the plot. If she wasn’t people would be commenting on how she was supposed to be able to pull all this off. If she was asura, people would be complaining about another super smart asura badguy. In the end, I think Scarlet’s identity was a pretty good choice.

What's up with Logan and Jennah now?

in Lore

Posted by: Lutinz.6915

Lutinz.6915

I think there are a few issues the two have. Some have been touched on. I think another is that Jennah recognises that Logan is too obsessively protective of her. This bothers her for two reasons. I think one is that she realises the extent of his obsession is tied to his guilt over the break up of Destiny’s Edge and snakitten death. After all if Jennah dies Logan’s choice was for nothing.

Jennah says herself that she needs a partner from him, not another servant.

The other issue is that Jennah wants to avoid tying Logan down. Logan is a notable hero and a member of Destiny’s Edge. Thats a big deal. Destiny’s Edge was the first group to really start taking down Dragon Champions. We see it more often now but beforehand the Dragon Champions were considered almost as undefeatable as the Dragons themselves. Logan can do great good against the ED and for the world. But he needs to get out to do it.

There is one line where Jennah comments that as much as she wants too she cant keep Logan for herself. The Tyria needs its heroes. I think she realises that is was somewhat of a mistake to make Logan her champion when he was with Destiny’s Edge because it robbed Logan of the freedom to act free of her.

Thats my take on it. I think she feels that persuing romance with Logan would be selfish and not be what Logan or Tyria really need right now. Jennah’s a very duty first kind of girl. She would have to be considering how her young life has been.

What century do they fight in?

Magic throws the whole balance of technological level out of place. The ships of orr for example used magic heavily in both defense and offense. Infact the defensive fire aura on on orrian dead ship in SoS protected it from cannonfire until they were able to nulify it’s defenses by drenching the ship in water.

With magic a sword or an axe or even an arrow can become a very effective weapon against any opponents. While technology and industry give the charr an edge, the same things are logistic heavy while more primitively armored foes with clever use of magic can do much to undermine the advantages that the tech and industry give with substansially less logistical requirements.

What does a lack of dragons mean for magic?

in Lore

Posted by: Lutinz.6915

Lutinz.6915

If we see the Elder Dragons as a natural reaction to the over abundance of Magic, then its not hard to believe that killing one potentially will just result in a replacement forming. Theres certainly nothing to say that in all the cycles before ours that no race has ever managed to kill one of the EDs. They are clearly killable if difficult.

The major question to me would be, what would be the state of the replacements? Would they be as destructive or has something caused the EDs to become stuck apocalyptic monsters? Does that something still effect them and reinforce their nature. After all Glint WAS a dragon and whatever corrupted her was cleansed from her so in theory you can have an ‘uncorrupted’ dragon.

I suspect at some point, why the EDs are the way they are will become important. They seem like a important part of the worlds natural cycle of magic.

More Serious Content

i think ANet’s logic goes like this:

personal story (aka main story) deals with dragons. living story deals with everything else that’s happening in the world meanwhile. the world didn’t just freeze in time because of dragons, other things still happen.

Since the main method of future content delivery appears to be living story, though, even if ANet thought that at one point, the evolution of their vision would have led to the main plotline getting stalled if they continued that line of thinking.

If so, they need to do some rethinking in my opinion. Freezing the main plot in time isn’t really preferable either.

COLIN JOHANSSON HAS STATED THAT FUTURE CONTENT WILL CONTINUE BOTH THE LS AND THE PERSONAL STORY.

The LS team is only a part of the whole dev team. There goal is to have a living world with major story plots built into it. They have also stated that they plan for major updates in the future but havent yet decided on if they will use some form of the LS system to deliver the update or weither they will use a more traditional expansion model. The LS system is still young and they are still learning what they can do with it.

We will see the dragons. No they arent two zones away since we dont infact have the location of any of the other dragons apart from a vague ‘off that way somewhere’ idea. Kralkatorik isnt at the end of the Brand. Thats Glint’s Lair and we know for a fact he isnt there. Primodus probably isnt even on the surface. Jormag is somewhere north of Frostsound Gorge. Thats all we know.

The LS has also touched on the EDs. The Zephyrites taught us a suprising amount of tidbits about the EDs. They, after all, served the former champion of one. The Aspect Crystals we used were powered by magic from Glints remains.

I agree that the current LS has felt too festive for my tastes. Lets see what the big turning point in the story we will be seeing soon actually is though. We might be suprised.

The one thing we can probably say is he didnt seem to come back to Glint’s Lair. After all, from the journal of the Zephyrites, the battlefield and Glint’s body had been abandoned. There discription also didnt really sound like there was branded activity in the area suggesting that Kralkatorik took his feasting elsewhere.

Point here is Anet promised to make a game they never delivered. They promise something new, creative, different and blablabla. They delivered a generic MMO.

This is as much I think player overexpectation as anything else. I mean pretty much every MMO Ive ever seen launched has had people say the exact same thing about it. All the ‘GREAT MMOS’ that come out always seem to fall short of many peoples expectations and lead to them talking about how said MMO will fail the moment the next ‘GREAT MMO’ comes out. Every single MMO Ive seen released in the last 5 years that Ive followed.

Currently Wildstar, Elder Scrolls Online and, particularly recently, EQNext are getting that treatement. Almost without fail I can be certain that people will be accusing them of being boring, stupid and generic within a year of their release.

I think GW2 has done pretty well for itself. Then again I generally dont expect to much from a game before I play it. Its certianly has a different feel to most of the other MMOs Ive played.

Would this work as Living World content?

The way the game is built really wouldnt allow for it effectively. World PvP between factions isnt really viable. Frankly I think its extremely unlikely you’ll see PvP outside the mists and certainly not with two of the major races as the primary factions.

Plus the core reasons for the treaty havent changed. The Charr still have more enemies than they know what to do with and the humans are still in a rather insecure place with problems with bandit groups and centaur.

I remember seeing a qoute by Ghostcrawler (one of WoW’s lead devs) when asked what was the biggest suprise he has had in developing MMOs.

He said that what suprised him is players choose efficency over fun. They would, by choice, doing something boring but more rewarding than something entertianing but less rewarding.

Its worth point out that if what they said in the live stream preview is true the mini was supposed to be a prestige item for those to show off they had beaten a very difficult fight. It wasnt for everyone. Sure everyone can get it if they have the skill and want to put in the effort but its very hard to get. Many people will never get it. I probably wont since she kicks my kitten .

Arenanet builds content for all its playerbase. That includes those who just want to do the content, the complexionists, the social players and the hardcore. It needs to provide at least some content to satisfy each of these groups. That means content that is going to be too difficult for some people who dont have the skill and/or the time.

If new content is stressful because your worried there may be a mini or something you cant get before it finishes then theres little Arenanet can do to solve that for you. Thats something you need to learn to manage by yourself. Arenanet builds content for its whole playerbase, not for a case by case basis.

Living Story and Elder Dragons

Firstly your understanding something wrong. Arenanet has actually said that it hasn’t decided how to release expansion style content at this stage, weither they go with a traditional expansion set or find a way to incoperate it into the LS. The LS team is only a part of the GW2 dev team. There are alot of other devs working on longer term projects that they just arent ready to tell us about.

Secondly, they have said the dragons and the PS will be back. The LS is designed to set a narative to the world. Its also to show us that there is alot more to the world than just a bunch of EDs. The LS has reverenced the EDs a few times already and will probably do more so going forward. Any new content or PS involving fighting the EDs, I suspect, will be perminant though until Arenanet decides to tell us it only speculation.

This is slightly off topic and completely speculative but It occured to me that Glint’s children may have actually been an attempt by Glint to seed a ‘replacement’ group of dragons without the same corrupt nature to fill the hole that killing the EDs would create. Having benign dragons supping on magic power seems like the best solution that the current races of Tyria can hope for in this situation.

Alternatively it could be that their are already benign EDs out there. If the EDs we know currently were all ‘unbalanced’ by some ancient event, it’s not beyond possibility that other dragons could have been uneffected by such an event. Further, considering what we know of out current EDs, it wouldnt be suprising to say the least for such an ED to remain unevolved over the killing the other EDs do as long has they didnt impact on it. After all the EDs in general dont really see the mortal races as much more than animals.
