Are there any planned changes to the Warrior profession, or is it "Working as Intended"?

Agree, banners need to get a lower cool down and their regeneration talent needs to heal a lot more. Cause honestly it feels worthless, also their range of effect should be increased as well as the range provided by the increase area of effect of banners talent which name I forgot, we really need more healing I agree on that. Also shake it off should remove at least 2 conditions instead of one, since it usually removes that one burning instead of the 12 stacks of bleeding you got on you.
Other than that I say some classes need their damage and buff cut down.
Only change we need is a fix in vengeance.
I rolled 3 ._.
Most likely will roll another until my 5 chars are 5 80 warriors.
I was playing a ranger to be a melee without heavy armor
!!!
Well even if the above statement is true, warriors really rule melee if spec correctly, even in WvW when outnumbered, in fact when outnumbered or playing against a ranged character, that’s when the melee warrior shines. If played correctly and not a simple minded GS warrior spec.
Everything works better than signets.
But it all really depends on your weapons of choice, personally I’m a fan of healing shouts and banners specs. Usually with shields or an axe in the off hand, sword or mace in the main had. But Dual axes is really good too. Healing shouts keep you going and can remove conditions and stuff near end game content. Healing banners give you many buffs and regeneration while being very useful for dungeon groups.
I use a 10 power/30 tough/30 vit build for healing shouts. The build allows me to revive faster, take damage in melee and CC a lot while providing extra healing. Over all I ran Arah story and we didn’t die once until the Airship part, yet to my defense the kitten thing was bugged lol. Party was composed of me in the spec mentioned above, another warrior with same spec but more conditional damage based + sword instead of mace, a mesmer, an elementalist and engineer.
The beauty of my build is that it allows you to punch a little more heal into your party while buffing em or taking critical conditions off them, you can go melee without fear as you be absorbing damage and in return got a large pool of Hp and more importantly you can interrupt and CC a lot while still dpsing just fine since you generate power from other sources. Such as more power from every boon on you, extra damage with mace talents, 5% toughness is applied as a bonus to power so on.
Here is the problem with the warrior. Warrior’s aren’t for simple minded people. Now you might be thinking.“OMFG How insulting.” Yet no, they are not made for people who want an easy win. First of all EVERY skill in EVERY weapon is useful. Now you may say “Q_Q GREAT SWORD BLADES LALALA!!!” For one you #1 skill chains giving you fluid damage during a multiple enemies or single target combat. 100 blades does a lot of damage if you keep your enemy in front of you, in PvE this easy as the Ai of the mobs isn’t programmed to be over challenging. In any form of pvp people like to pair it with berserker stance I think it was…? kitten I don’t use cheap tricks so I don’t remember, but anyways quickness makes you stack crap so you can one shot bad players. The whirlwind skill is a beast and deals almost as much damage as hundred blades if used correctly < key word you need to know how the F. you use it.
The skill that throws your sword forgot the name can be used as an opening or a follow up for the whirlwind skill and the charge, well is a bit buggy atm, but it can easily follow your throw sword to catch again with the enemy. I used GS warrior a lot I must admit, but I grew bored of them.
Dual wielders pack a lot of damage and can’t be either CC, heavy damage, AoE or condition damage dealers. This make them very versatile as well as having the ability to interrupt like crazy if going mace and shield. Again you need to know what you doing.
Hammer gives you massive control over encounters, this means you can 1 v 1 without problems if you know what you doing.
Long range with a warrior is easy with rifles and a bit more annoying I would say with long bows but this is very situational.
In dungeons warrior can bring heavy buffs as well as additional healing, don’t go with the garbage people tell you Aka: G.S/Rifle 5 signets build. That build will get you to the floor a lot and will give your party nothing at all, at your best you be using your rifle the whole dungeon and then coming to the forums to Q_Q about how warriors suck.
Now Utilities…You almost get it all, you get banners which you can spec to heal, deal damage or act as a mobile boost while giving buffs to your allies or doing mass revives to downed allies with the epic one. The epic one also allows you to revive allies in tough conditions where going melee to heal them isn’t an option. You get stances which allow you to deal more damage or mitigate damage if timed correctly as well as avoid being knock down and many other conditions that will make a game changing scenario in the end game maps. Shouts can be spec to do small AoE healing, while buffing and removing conditions or giving you some crowd control or debuffing. Also physical skills allow you to control the battlefield, even that stupid kick ability can save your team mates from death in many WvW scenarios.
Now the warrior isn’t perfect. We got some bugged skills and our down skills are pure garbage. And unless you go glass cannon GS build, we suck badly in underwater combat. Other than that I can beat almost every class 1 on 1 or 2 on one and sometimes even 3 on 1. Done some ridiculous world vs world encounters with 7 v 1, 9 v1 even I can’t count or see wtf is going on vs1. Nop I did not kill them all I died eventually but if the game didn’t had the downed mechanic I assure you they all would have died.
If you want to be a good warrior, you have to think outside the box A lot and ignore most of the builds posted online. If you notice every good warrior out there use a build that isn’t G.S + 5 signets. Or H.B. + Bolas lol. If you want an absurdly easy to play class make a Guardian. Guardians on the other side are the opposite to warriors in every way, they are covered in very flashy skills, every single skill is insanely easy to use and too good to be true, they suck damage like an endless sponge without much thinking and buff like crazy M.Fs.
@Apos, sorry but I have tanked over 9 people at once in WvW…so you really are doing it wrong. Also I believe you are exaggerating your elementalist a lot.
1) The shield skills are fine, not only you get a small range interrupt but you also get a block skill that becomes invaluable if you spec correctly. Specially in high levels maps and WvW. Also the shield is a weapon, not a damage absorbing thing like in other mmos.
2) See above, if they reduced shield stance cool down or make it longer I be rolling all over WvW for days.
3) Shield bash is fine, make it longer you will make it over power.
4) Ever hit anything with a sword? Guess not cause it doesn’t make much sound other than the sound of the blade crossing through the wind, this is true even if you go through bone, normally if you cut something in daily ways such as smacking a blade against a pork part to break the bone the whole sound you hear is the blade smashing whatever is under it, swords per say make little sound unless they hit armor or other hard metals and no they don’t make all those sound they make in the movies.
I been using healing shouts for quite a while now. Personally I build a tank warrior with healing shouts. For weapons I use a mace/shield combo or a hammer. Now the beauty of this build is that it takes so little damage if you time your cool downs correctly that is insanely over power. I use for for dungeons and WvW, done a few Spvp tournaments with it but honestly I prefer a sword/shield build for those due to the amount of mobility the sword gives me. If your team during a dungeon is close to you, you can shout to give their health a boost while buffing them and removing conditions off them, you can use fear me in tight situations to buy yourself and your team time for healing cool downs to finish cooling or give them time to revive a fallen player. In WvW you can take multiple enemies at once if you time your attacks perfectly and even if you can’t down them all you can put quite a fight against overwhelming odds. Again buying your team time.
The dps in this build isn’t as high but I crit for about 2.5-3.6k, which imo isn’t so bad. My hp is somewhere around the 27k and 32k, 27 in normal circumstances and 32 with 3 orbs in WvW.
I spec my gear with + power/vit/toughness mostly but I have a few pieces with +healing. The hammer build I use is very similar to “C.H.’s” But I find it more shinny for Spvp than for WvW and as I been doing more WvW lately I haven’t gave it enough love.
I done a sword/axe build which had decreased toughness and increased power. The build was quite good as it stood well against most foes, but it lacked much survivability, but of course dealt more damage.
I been thinking of building around banners for heal and damage but honestly the will to do it isn’t there as I’m too lazy to make more exotics for the set up I want.
I never used the warhorn on pvp so I cannot give any tips on that one. Yet here is what I normally do in pvp against thief.
I use a shield + mace or shield + sword and sometimes dual axe or sword/shield. I keep the rifle as my secondary but only to put enemies to bleed or shoot em if they try to run away.
I roll a toughness/vit/power build when I’m using my mace or condition damage/t/v when using the sword.
Now with my current build I have about 30.xk hp and a truck load of toughness I know is past 3.2k can’t remember the exact number. For the most part thiefs are a joke for me unless they outnumber me. I use the shouts heal trait so I keep my hp quite high all the time.
If they come with heart seeker they will see their initiative gone in no time and since heart seeker deals heavy damage only when your hp is down pass 30% i can easily dodge back so their spam continues getting them closer to me or I can simply block em with block stance, shout to remove any conditions and buff myself with FGJ, at this time using both get’s me about 3k hp back so yeah i am ready to deal with em, usually a rogue with no initiative will A) auto attack you which you can destroy or
move around and try to escape, if needed switch to rifle bleed em and get em into melee again or keep shooting them until they die. You can shield bash them to interrupt their attack or stop em in melee a few moments or use mace #3 to do the same, bull rush, stomp many other utilities help as well depending on how you spec.
With sword in main hand is easier since you can bleed them and keep charging them as they move around.
Block stance is the key to deal with pistol whip and that shooting spam they do with guns, with my build they spam bullets and kill themselves due to missiles bouncing back at them. If they pistol whip with quicken my shield stance will block most or all of it depending on timing, thus making them die right after.
I could go on with strategies but honestly I need some sleep lol.
At low lvls you won’t see much difference between weapons and stats, personally I went with a handed sword until my late 50s, using only power and vit, after that I switched to dual axes with vit/tou/pow. Now use mace and shield build. As suggested above the signets build works well at low lvls due to the mobs not coming at you in big masses as they do in the 70+ zones and over all the battles are brief. For dungeons you might want to bring a shield + one handed weapon + a ranged weapon and switch signets for banners or control physical utilities.

Our traits are crap, most of them don’t even work.
Game is new and incredibly massive, honestly I am surprised at how little bugs are there for such a massive game.
We have crap survivability
LOL? Dude with my build I can tank over 7 – 10 people at once in WvW, can do almost every dungeon encounter in pure melee without touching the floor once while making my team mates live longer and in SPvP…nothing can’t kill me, unless heavily ganged I can take anything on one on one and sometimes 2 on one, except guardians, can’t kill me and they can’t kill me either lol, proved as I went one on one against one and neither of us ever went under 60% hp.
GS skills sometimes don’t work
Wut? They work fine for me, sometimes targeting system makes rush make me go the wrong way, but all the rest work perfectly fine for me, in fact whirlwind and that throwing sword thing are my person faves.
Our range dps is garbage
Lol? Tried a rifle? I bet not. Cause seriously rifle hits almost as hard as a GS and if used correctly it can make a ranger opponent feel some extra pain, yet I rather deal with ranged classes in a more tactical way.
As for CC
Dude warrior got trucks of cc, is stupid how much control we can have over a target, also remember in melee people won’t stand there and wait for you to do a HB noob sausage combo on them, they will dodge and move and is up to YOU to stop sucking and complaining and start playing like a man. Unless you want the future of MMOs to be like Final Fantasy in the old 90’s lol.
Not 100% sure but it appears to, I switched some gear around and added some + healing power to the mix, my shouts went up from 1270 < or so to 1580 and sometimes a bit more.
Arah:
During the event when you have to kill the minions of Zhaitan, I got killed and decided to respawn at way point, instead the game respawn me inside one of the cannons and didn’t let me move or do anything at all. During this time I had the message to hit F to leave as if I was using the cannon, however doing so only switched between my two weapons. As soon as my party progressed to the next stage, I appeared on the next ship with my armor colored green and still unable to move.
Re logging fixed this and allowed me to move however when the next event started I kept dropping from 67 fps to 1 fps, which constantly froze my screen. I’m running on a beefy build with an I7 2600k and 2 Gforce 580 Black edition, so I don’t think it was lack of hardware, all the event cut scene showed just fine in terms of FPS but the sound in each of them was glitch and would go on and off.
I would very much like to see paid race changing. Mainly because I wanted to change my warrior from human to Norn. "Love their racial tier 1 – 3 more than any other set in the game and also like their voice and everything else a lot more. Getting another warrior to 80 wouldn’t be a problem but getting my craft to 400 again along all my exotics back IS a real problem.
Sword in main hand with condition damage as your pain stat in your armor will provide some heavy damage from bleeding, the damage you see per hit might not be the largest but with 12+ stacks of bleeding you be adding a huge amount of dps per tick.
Axe is good for building adrenaline and over all bursting, with a crit power build you should be pulling some nice numbers.
The mace which is my current weapon of choice is great for control even if the numbers aren’t that big and it lacks condition damage to back it up. Over all this is a WvW oriented build.
I can’t believe this! kitten ?
Dude once you reach the big boys league you will be crying that warriors are Under powered.
Leaving guardians outside the equation every single class in the game can fell over power if you learn to play it properly. I have tried almost all of them and I can tell you that at first all classes specially the warrior feels dull and under power, but when u start experimenting with different set ups, leaving behind the 30 power / 5 signets and even the great sword and rifle aside, you start loving the warrior a lot. The same goes to all other classes but the warrior in my opinion is much harder as doing stuff with your melee weapons takes a way higher curve than with any other class.
The GS is a good example of that, with hb people complain warrior is op, but in reality what makes the warrior truly op with the greatsword is all the other skills besides HB, HB if anything is a PVE move and with quicken a PVE n00b murderer in pvp.
@Snuff. < This man speaks wisdom.
You can easy counter him in many ways, with a shield you use block stance, problem solved all he will do is hear a bunch of bunks and many blocks right there, then he is death. You can also use that stance that makes you immune to damage, he be rolling all over you for 0 damage, then he dies. Can always dodge backwards with good timing he won’t deal much damage then he dies. So on it goes.
@People complaining about stealth and team work: For one if every class can’t stand against every other class 1v1 then the game is lacking some serious balance. Or are you suggesting we go to the cave man age of mmos with “EVERYONE TARGET THE HEALER” and a single healer taking damage from over 7 people because he cannot be killed 1 on 1? Or the classic ranged > melee no matter wut? Want to kill a ranged char, gang him and hope for the best. Nop, GW2’s team is quite good at making the game and balancing it.
Sadly people simply can’t let go of the old days of 1 build to rule em all and one macro set to bind them into the boringness.
I can disagree. I can explain why too.
All weapons are viable and completely change your play style based on them.
And now since I read you are the standard I think I PWN WITH MAH GREATSWORD AND RIFLE HUAHUAHUA" Kind of guy I will tell you why they all have their own uses.
If I want mobility I go with a sword in the main hand, this gives me the ability to stay mobile and stay on my enemies all the time. I can combine the sword with a shield bam, heavy control + survival + ability to deal with ranged enemies easily if spec correctly. I put an axe in my off hand I got heavy damage and AoE control. I put a mace I got aoe stuns for even more control or another sword for ranged bleed. Don’t forget those stacks of bleed are dealing damage constantly and even if removed your hits will keep putting more of them on the enemy.
I want fast burst and ranged attacks, go axe you get heavy damage hitting main hits, aoe’s and a crippling long rage skill. Combine them with the options above and you get a very nice hitting/controlling warrior.
Want higher control, make a hammer warrior, not only they hit hard and AoE well but you can stun your foes and knock them down.
The great sword omfg the weapon that Anet send to the n00bs with no skills. Ever used all of it’s skills? I bet not, you most likely think HB is like the ultimate skill cause you clearly never done any real pvp, else you would see people dodging your HB all over the place and abusing your berserker stance debuff against you. Don’t get me wrong GS is very viable but HB is the last skill that make them so.
Rifle is good for single target yes, but their range is lame, ever fought more than one enemy with em. I bet not.
Long bow: They need a bit of a buff in the damage department but in WvW they are a god send when defending any fortifications.
Warriors can become immortal if spec correctly, they can become crazy damage dealers or heavy controllers. I personally use a mace and shield atm. I go world vs world and there is nothing I cannot 1 vs 1 or even 3 vs 1 hell I gone 7 vs 1 and downed a few of them before I got killed. With the right timing and spec the warrior is technically the most viable class of all.
Our utilities are lacking you say? You clearly never spec into them. Aside from banners having a very small Aoe, every utility the warrior has can be spec into something that greatly benefits the class. Shouts can buff and heal while giving you control over enemies. Not to mention you can reduce their cool down. The elite banner can save your team when multiple people are downed in a hard to reach location whenever is a dungeon or WvW. Bull rush and the other physical skill are insanely good if you mix them with long range attacks, you can easily solo elites and event bosses with em if timed correctly.
Sure the warrior doesn’t make huge flashy stuff happen but hey the warrior is for serious people only. Else you will end with the whole “NERF 100 BLADES OMFG I CAN’T PLAY ANYTHING ELSE Y_____Y” like threads.
Edit: Didn’t mention the war horn because…honestly it does lack any real use. It seems to be bugged as it sometimes doesn’t put any debuff on enemies. And as for stances go, I let you figure out how useful they are in multiple situations.
(edited by Lyonell.1753)
I wonder what is it about hundred blades that makes people Q_Q so much over it. Honestly, only way I can see this as a reason to be posted is that you are a complete n00b who doesn’t know how to play his class or you simply don’t play a warrior. Or maybe both? Anyways my list is simple.
-Fix the bugs related to vengeance.
-Increase the AoE of banners.
-Make bolas miss less often…
That’s all, the rest is perfectly balanced imo. Once you leave the big sword aside and start learning the game you will notice that the big sword doesn’t need a nerf it needs a buff. Also game only needs a massive nerf on Guardians and a small nerf on the mesmer’s survivability to be perfect.
All weapons and viable and once you hit 80 dual wielding will leave greatswords in the dust. Personally I’m using a sword/axe build atm and it does far more damage with far more mobility and survives a lot longer than any great sword build out there.
WvW/Pve: http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#McRVco0MmRavmmRavma0xx0cVksoRb
Pros:
-Almost impossible to kill, can go head on with up to 4 people in WvW and survive/take them down without problem.
-With my current gear I have about 30k hp, my current gear is quite mixed as I haven’t finish my exotic set so I’m hoping this number will go up.
-Strong against almost every class, so far only class I can’t kill 1 vs 1 is good guardians. Then again they can’t kill me either.
The Cons:
-Lack mobility and range control, so enemies might escape if they got swiftness or other speed increase, teleportation or far movement skills.
-Doesn’t hit as hard as a great sword or puts conditions on the enemy like a sword.
I plan on switching the rifle for a long bow to add a bit of control at range, but have yet to find a good long bow .
(edited by Lyonell.1753)
Completely agree
Only way hammer is any useful is when you see vengeance will prop soon so you can time your hammer against the person who is closer a to DB, then use vengeance to avoid the second DB and try for a rally, even if most likely the downed person will rally himself due to vengeance ending as you DB them instead. Making our skill well, much more useless !
Sadly I have to break it this way. Guardians are extremely over powered while Warriors are not.
Yet having played multiple warrior set ups I can give you some advice. I personally am able to hold myself against several targets, is all into how you build yourself. For example when single targeting against say an elite skill boss or something of the like, you can use bolas, bullrush, fear me and #5 rifle skill to kite and keep the enemy at a distance. Then completely destroy em in melee with whatever weapon set up you choose.
Sword Main hand/Mace off hand: gives you a wave stun, a condition damage dot like build from main sword attacks and a lot of mobility.
Dual Axes: Give heavy damage in melee, heavy aoe with #2/#5 skills.
Sword/shield: I like this set up as most of my damage comes from bleeds and I get to reflect projectiles from long range bosses for extra damage. “Trait into it”
Now your utilities are what is gonna define your warrior. Placing banners and luring your enemies into them can give you a strong advantage in both damage and defense, while doing shouts at the right time if spec correctly will heal you and buff you while giving some control. Stances I don’t have much experience with so I cannot really tell you much on that department.
By 70+ You will be abusing shake it off a lot, I personally like the heal that removes two conditions as well. But as I said you will need to practice a lot as warrior is a class that requires a lot more dodging and player skill than the guardian.
Personally I find the warrior to be one of the most interesting classes to play. I find the warrior is what you make him not what is given to you. I do however would buff many of their skills to make em more useful.
Banners: They were the reason I originally wanted to be a warrior, the idea was unique and over all great for party support. But their cool and area of effect is so small specially for a game where kiting is a most. In a WoW like scenario where every melee hugs the boss with the tank and all the ranged is op this would be a good range but here we need a way bigger aoe to compensate.
Shouts: I find them good yet their AoE is so small they should be called whispers. I go FOR GREAT JUSTICE !!! And only people in melee seems to hear me and get buffed. Fear me makes me need to go on melee to make people fear me. Is like if I needed to call em in the middle of battle to whisper something in their ear so it takes effect. If anything they should work similar to Diablo 2’s barbarian who buffed everyone in the screen. Well not as far as everyone in the screen but a rather wide area imo. With the exception of Fear me which shouldn’t be all that huge for balance purposes.
The physical utilities which is what I use at the moment seem to be quite good, no complains on this one.
The signets I personally don’t use them at all. I find these to be an excuse for n00bs to feel like they can do something. I do use all of them under water since oh…barely any of my utilities work under water …
Elites: Yep..if the banner had better AoE range I would say is my favorite elite on the game. Juggernaut needs to actually make us a Juggernaut not just a slow pushing machine. The signet well is the one everyone seems to favor due to buffs and cool downs.
My suggestions:
70+ Content:
When you reach the final areas of the game everything becomes a Dynasty Warriors like environment. You want to walk from Point A to point B trucks of mobs will appear from nowhere to kill you. There is a certain level of challenge to this but over all it feels more annoying than anything. The places are well design in terms of How it looks vs How the lore says it should look bur running around killing trucks of crap for little to no reason isn’t my idea of end game.
Now up to the boss events in these areas, I will address the Risen priest of the different gods. They feel like nice epic events yet most of their mechanics more than challenging are annoying. I felt much more challenge and fun in low level epic boss encounters than on these priest. I say go through them and find ways to encourage team work in more creative ways.
Dungeons: I find the dungeons mechanics to be fine. Like every other game once you done it once you can face roll through it, but unless you get a person rolling the boss each time you go fight it, the mechanics will stay the same and you will learn to react to them, thus making them feel like a face roll. Yet my problem is the rewards these dungeons give. A helm? Really every time a helm that looks the same? And those treasure boxes, I think I got mmm… 1 item I could use out of those boxes and it wasn’t even an upgrade for my current gear.
Crafting: Rather than a personal choice to build along your character and eventually see some kind of results from. Crafting feels like a quick road to 80. Not to mention outside Jewel Crating the essential crafting materials seems to be close to impossible to obtain and needed in stupid amounts. 8 bloods…8 fans so on. When by the time you got 8 you feel like you should be able to craft at least 8 items for all the pain you went through.
Raids: I say leave them out of the equation. Nothing good comes from them and after you do them once or twice they become more of a torture than a fun experience. I have done raiding in WoW, Rift and SWTOR. First time: “OMG THIS IS EPIC” Every time after: “Man I hope my $%#$ -insert gear piece- here drops.” The only thing raids do is create drama over loot, create torture like environments that leave a large part of the community out of certain content. The way current boss encounters work if twinkled a little would be way more successful than a structured raid system.
Money: When you start your journey in Tyria quest rewards seem to be low but at least they keep up with the expenses of your journey. You get say 36 cooper from an event and pay 7 cooper for a way point or 12 to repair your armor. Now as an 80 I earn 2 silver from an event and maybe 7 silver from my daily or a hard WvW event. Yet when I need to travel the cost of such travels = 3+ silver, re spawning nearby is about 1.5 silvers and fixing my armor atm is about 8 silver without having most of it damaged. So technically making money without selling any lucky stuff I find is almost impossible.
(edited by Lyonell.1753)
Ok so a guildmate of mine was asking if any of us actually knew how toughness reduces damage. As in an actual formula for it. As a Sword/Shield warrior I was actually very interested in this since understanding the actual formula could help me pick better gear builds for S.PvP.
Thanks in advance for any information.
@Redscope.6215: We might do that and make the GS warrior useless
!
Imo the solution is pretty easy, make burst skills actually burst. C’mon why use skills that hit lower or equally to a normal attack at lvl 3. I have used every weapon set available to warriors in both pvp and pve…that including WvW. Imo having to reach F-1 for any of the burst is quite useless. If I dual axe I burst someone for say, 2.2crit? When I do dual strike < forgot the right name but #4 on dual axe skills. I can easily do a double crit for 980 each hit. So the difference between my “Burst” and my normal skills is well barely there.
100 blades is practically the only reason Great Sword Warrior is viable, take that of and you make warriors useless with GS, the game got many balance issues and the warrior isn’t one of them. If anything warriors are under power.
Now as I said what we need our burst to do is simple, deal HEAVY damage. The only one that seems to do this at the moment is the Rifle Burst skill, if AoEing enough targets the Long bow too. Everything else is pretty much garbage. Burst are suppose to be fast and hit hard, not have long animations that pretty much anyone can ignore.
I guess the option is S pvp. World pvp with 5 people…dude…that be lame like no tomorrow.
I find the great sword to be quite useful in every possible way PVE wise specially when you go into the 70+ maps.
The normal attacks have a nice open range to deal damage to multiple things at once and the great sword is one of the easiest weapons to spec into. +10% damage with great sword and spear in the Pow.T and – 25% cool down on our skill cool down in the Pre.T. As for the skills go.
Whirlwind Atk: Personally I use this skill to get away from mobs while dealing some damage in other to get a heal in or buy myself time for my heal to CD. If used properly it deals quite some damage.
- Blade trail : I use this when mobs are close together and i want to pull them closer without switching to a range weapon. Since it usually crits a lot it usually buff me with might &/or swiftness.
- Rush: I don’t use this much pve wise thanks to the camera work in game one of the few flaws I see in the game also it seems to be bugged and making you run pass the enemy you are targeting sometime, However it does serve when you wish to run away from something or simply rush your way somewhere asap.
- Arching strike: Never use this, I keep my A. Bars full for the +9% power and +9% damage bonus. The burst doesn’t burst it hits lower than normal attacks and is over all a waste of animations.
Also am I the only one with the opinion that 100b should be the greatswords Burst ability??
I don’t thing 100B should be our burst is the one skill that makes great sword good in pve. In pvp however I take a sword and shield or dual axes or sword/mace over GS any day. And I done my fair share of pvp with all of those including the GS.
WvW wise the greatsword is viable specially when enemies come to you in mobs. Since most WvW players are headless chickens looking for easy kills when mobbing you get to kill em easy with 100b. But if you do meet with a good player you will wish to have another weapon set up anytime over a GS.
I use the banner a lot in dungeons to revive fallen allies in tight situations, the area of effect is too small so it doesn’t really offer a viable buff, not to mention that horrible cool down.
Jugg is…as everyone else said lame. If you use it when your life is low it will increase the amount of health you have but you will last what? 5 secs more? The animation delay are horrible and all the cool downs leave you punching in melee even if all your others skills throw the enemy away from you thus making you have to slowly walk to them.
They are balanced. which is exactly what makes them under powered when you compare it to any other class’s.
It was a sequence of events. For starters I love cats and i love big chars. So at first I was like Ok I will be a norn, turn into a bear bla bla bla. Then I watched the first race trailer and Ritlock’s words just caught me.
“Your faith is you weakness human” < I would have said the same.
“Duty bla bla for the black citadel " <I love black, I love citadels, I honor my duties and I am a military person.
So the life style, technology, abuse of black and fire and the fact that they are militant and relay on their strength made me fall for the race. Also they got some of the most intense racial tier armor I seen.
Balthazar give me strength is the shout for hounds of Balthazar.
Drama queen with good taste for woman.
I use sword/shield condition damage for pvp. Been testing some axe/shield builds but still haven’t get the feeling needed to play them 100% correctly. But nop you are not alone.
The GS is one of the worst weapons the warrior has.
How are people still complaining about this? Friggin trolls…
Instead, can we discuss how to make the warrior actually useful in PvP? Thanks
The answer is simple. Learn to play your warrior.
I leveled my first warrior from lvl 12 – 80 using GS + Rifle, before that i used whatever I found, in my opinion if you are single targeting using bolas to stop your enemy then spamming rifle skills on it from afar gets you very good results even against elites. I was able to solo most elite monster skill challenges without loosing any hp at all. Trick is in timing with your bolas and combining it with bull rush when they come close or fear me to make em run away from you.
Currently I am lvling my second warrior with a long bow and sword/mace combo. Bow seems to do great in aoe situations but lacks a pot of punch in single target situations such as dungeons boss fights.
Without this skill damage great sword is pretty much useless compared to dual wielding. I disagree on everyone using the same build. I see many warriors use great sword yes, pve wise is good, pvp wise is too easy to own if you know how to counter. Like everything else in this discussion forum, people need to learn to play. If you keep asking for everything to be nerfed then you will ask for it to be buffed or nerfed more leading to WoW’s circle of doom. Q_Q this is op > Nerf > Q_Q now that is op > nerf > now that is op again. So on.
Great sword warrior are easy to build yes. But they are as good as any other warrior. dual wielder if played correctly can do way more damage way easier and with less chances of being countered. Or did you forgot that this skill doesn’t do all it’s damage in one strike and if you dodge you just left the warrior doing a useless animation while youkittenhim?
Warriors do too much damage with greatswords, mesmers are annoying with illusions, thiefs do too much damage with one skill, necros are hard to kill, guardians this and that bla bla bla!!! You know pvp should be a map full of boulders so people can hit for the exact same damage doing the very same thing over and over and over.
I think my highest was 21k in world pvp.
And true highest 140k against a bunny _!!!
This is what I call my Tips trinity.
1) This game isn’t a rush to 80. The end content is there right from lvl 2 when you finish your starting zone. Want to pvp jump into heart of the mist and you are 80 automatically, want to kill an epic boss? Wait for an epic boss event to trigger, most of them are around lvl 10 I believe but you can join the fight regardless of level.
2) Explore!!! The game events are fun like no other, if you find yourself in a zone that is your level but feels a bit hard at the moment go to another race zone and explore it, you will be down leveled and you be able to gain exp rewards and gear for your level regardless of the zone level.
3) Completely forget about the trinity, every dungeon boss I fought thus far “I miss some exploration dungeons” can be beaten with any set up of classes, just need to find the right strategy to beat em.
And on a side tip: Remember everything gives exp, so gather everything you can, craft whatever you can and help people when they need to be revived
.
Problem with warrior is that they are complex in simple ways. Their skills might look like a bunch of hits that don’t differ from each other in any way other than animations. But as you build your skills you will see that every weapon and play style is viable.
Personally I favor the greatsword for pve and WvW with a rifle in the off weapon slot. For structured pvp I favor sword shield with either bow or rifle in off depending on what I’m after. Every weapon got a pro and a con, swords for example in the main hand give you mobility and bleeds, axes give you more adrenaline and swing a little faster + a long range crippling strike.
Warriors really need to try all weapons and mix them with the right perk selection and utility skills.
I love this map, every map got a catch that makes it fun to play in, in this case that catch is the sharks and maybe the cannon that some people actually load and use. Thief aren’t un-killable underwater…I have killed plenty of them.
Oh and don’t forget you can kill thekittensharks…they are true glass cannons.
I ran a sword/shield Toughness > Precision/Condition Damage > Power Build, sword gave me mobility and bleeds on the enemy. Shield with right trails add toughness and missile reflects + stance duration increase. This build was a lot of fun, placing enemies in confusion when interrupt, reflecting their long range attacks so they damaged themselves instead stuff like that.
Over all the build required lots of timing and patience since you won’t be dealing excessive amounts of damage but it did survive well and did kill well. My utility skills were Bolas, Bull rush and Fear me.
As for elite in world vs world I used hounds of Balthazar in Spvp at first I went for juggernaut yet the animation delays for this skill didn’t match my playing style so I moved to the banner which name I forgot, only cause it allowed me to revive fallen allies in mass while doing some good buffing when fighting around the conquering point.
My opinion:
Thief: Very good burst if build and use correctly, yet they are pretty much glass cannons, anyone who knows how to pvp will even the grounds on a thief without problems. Their teleport around when struggling for a rally is nothing big or anything that should make you go Q_Q nerf nerf about. Gun whip does hit hard, but you can dodge it can’t you? You can block it as a shield warrior too, so on tactics against it go.
Mesmer: Insane damage…compared to other classes I find their damage to be right where it should be, maybe a little low but is a good price for the whole confusion and chaos they bring to one on one encounters. Their down ability IS insanely annoying I say even stupidly so.
As mentioned by others, Guardians imo are the only class that needs some nerfing. Any other class u can even the grounds with different tactics, guardians on the other hand are pure self buff damage heal control all in one, specially if they make spiritual weapons. Those things would chase you to hell and back, knock you and make your life miserable all under the control of an AI.
11 but shall rise quicker now that I’m 80 lol
My personal opinion is that this vegetable guy could have a much better story than this. He join you all of the blue as a necromancer who seems to behave and fight like many things except a necromancer. Unlike the other chars that join you along the story, he doesn’t seem to have a real personality besides throw the ball at me and I shall win the game for you.
I don’t remember most of the chars names, but the norn guy that rolled around with me was possibly my favorite char in the game, his whole TO HELL WITH THIS AND THAT plus his O_O pink eyes expressions were too good to pass. My main is an 80 human, I was happy I got to see my sister at the closing episodes of the story once again, but what happened to everyone else who was important at the start, this plant guy takes too much attention when characters with real story don’t get any at all.
And like everyone else I do love the epicness of the story. Just wish they gave it a little bit more love in some areas.
Agree. Also certain bosses needs their health cut down massively. Like the mouth of Zhaitan < spell check please. That thing was 35 minutes of running side to side pressing 1-3 1-3 some f-1 on my warrior.
