I do this all the time with my sword and board warrior, my spec is something like this:

I move close to low health allies to heal em with my shouts, if more than one fall I use banner to get them back up and keep my allies buff. The sword burst applies a lot of bleeds and tends to crit quite a lot per hit, so pretty much it adds some damage there via dot. Immobilize allows other players to kite away safer, even if it is one sec and fear me let me handle mobs easier as i can cripple one for focus fire while the others run away.

I done all story modes except HoW and most exploration modes on this build. Currently farming CoF for guildies who want the armor. If I get downed more than twice per dungeon is a miracle unless the fight is an actual impossible situation lol.

Warriors have a mayor problem, this being the fact that their design was that of a raw melee powerhouse. Now this raw melee powerhouse got nerfed and now is a melee I slap you in the face and hope you bleed kind of class. Warrior’s damage as a glass cannon should be comparable to the thief. Now don’t give me that bullkitten about thief being over power, I killed thiefs all the time, people kill me as well when I’m on mine and their damage is only “Insane” if they hit another glass cannon. Hit a bunker and your damage is just about enough to deal with em.

Now here is the problem. Classes like elementalist can deal heavy damage from range, heal, protect and kite. All in one package. Classes like warrior can use a rifle which is boring, or ignore the whole mechanics given to the class as burst was nerfed thus cannot really burst, melee means many auto attacks as most skills are either worthless like 100B or have a long cool down like shield skills. This make you relay solely on auto hitting, our auto attacks need to be in melee and well positioned this is enough for us to have a damage range which is higher than any other class, why? For one the damage per second DPS will be sub par with ranged classes as they can keep damage flowing while we depends on massive movement while being kited. Warriors can’t kite, else we can’t hit, so we can only pack an offense with a little help from the shield for defense. On the other hand our burst should hit a lot higher, due to it being our only “unique” mechanic and even so has a really big chance to miss.

Burst is very similar to RIFT and maybe even swtor, with the difference that bursting in those games deals at least 4 times your normal damage. Here only the axe deals some damage and it doesn’t go pass the 2k on a bunker. That is pathetic. Now with the absence of dps classes besides the thief dealing any DPS the bunker build becomes a massive lol face roll that everyone loves. Guardians should stay as they are in bunker build, mesmer need a mechanic overview, warriors should be raised to the same level as thiefs and thiefs need to be nerfed only when using range attacks. Elementalist are fine the way they are, if anything take out some damage as they can do everything the way they are and so can engineers.

Now with elementalist and engineers being so good at doing everything, this leaves condition necro in the shadows, short bow ranger eating dust and the warrior who is suppose to be melee becoming an attempt to be a ranged class. Problem is simple, make melee deal enough damage to sustain, necros enough control to for their conditions to work and rangers, well honestly just make the pet better…

I am fine with it being town cloths, unless they make a skin for each type of armor set that is transmutable. But the disguise themselves are fine as town cloths.

Warrior WvW Traits/Advice for Killing thiefs

The ability to stay in stealth the whole fight is a bug, there is a rendering bug that makes characters not appear until a few seconds later. And since stealth vanish them, when the game tries to render them there again it takes it a few moments to do so. When this is fixed you will have a lot less problems.

Battle Standard = Great for wvw and groups.
Signet of Rage = Great for soloing and everything.
Charzooka = is ok for going around doing a bit of aoe damage but isn’t worth the skill points, to be honest aside from hounds of Balthazar none of the racial skills are worth their cost in skill points or are worth buying at all. They are more cosmetic if anything.

Yep, I been feeling this problem as well, specially with off hand sword animations, problem with this is I feel like I didn’t exactly performed the command when I did and thus I end up pressing the key extra times, which in chars like a thief means initiative wasted. However this is not as bad as RIFT so I can deal with for now. But is really bad with high end reaction gameplay players.

After lvling my second warrior I used 2 axes, the damage you deal combined with the AoE power makes this build go through anything the game got to offer without problems. I used 5 signets until lvl 40 or so, then I switched the healing signed for another heal depending on the area I was lvling in. Over all until you reach the 70+ areas this build chews through anything quick and easy so the signet passive bonus are more than enough to keep you going, as banners AoE is too small, you really don’t need to make things stay in place so physical stuff is useless, shouts can’t heal yet and other than F.G.G. are pretty useless. And stances well I did use some of them for elite skill challenges. I used a bow as off hand weapon mainly for the AoE opening and extra damage aoe burns.

Ok since a mod went berserk on my last post I will make this one more fulfilling.

This makes no sense.

Why the shield is made to protect the wielder while he uses another weapon to finish this enemies, phalanx tactics used multiple people with shields to protect a whole group now if everyone carried two shields these would make everything well…not good at all. The shield isn’t a weapon even if it can cause enough damage with a bash to kill a human being “a reason while shield bash damage should be higher” it is a defensive mobile cover that is mainly use to deflect, parry or knock down opponents. Also the weight of a real shield is too much for a person to actually maneuver while using one.

Is it just me or are Survivability warriors nothing compared to guardians?

@Redscope: We used to have more damage, pvp wise our damage is nothing.
We have more CC only if we go hammer, which means you sacrifice a lot of damage while guardian got decent mobility and CC + damage with pretty much every weapon, also pvp wise their attacks hit a lot easier in melee than warrior’s.

Some warriors are just that bad, yet at low lvls warriors in melee dungeons get pwned hard, as levels go up you can go melee happy all the time.

Being good at a warrior required outstanding skill, being good at a guardian requires…well button smashing… Oh I’m no guardian hater, I got a guardian as well as 2 warriors. The problem is the guardian is designed with too many passive buffs and abilities as well as the ability to retain decent damage dealing abilities while being a full tank. Warriors either go glass cannon in which case their damage doesn’t make up for it or go fully tanky or tanky condition damage in either case neither condition damage or tank spec generate enough damage to go on par with a guardian.

Can always go got a self healing condition damage build. This work very well in both WvW and dungeons. At least for my thief it does. I have yet to gear him in exotics and all that so I cannot suggest runes atm.

Ok since there seems to be a lot of exaggerated bad players here I will add a bit to this post. Warriors dual axe damage got nerfed to the ground. Our damage with dual axes is nothing, it takes an incredibly skilled player to get any kills in SPVP/TPVP lalala. Is not impossible but since other classes will do better people will easily move to them and bash the warrior. Even those who claim to be top tier players will simply move to the cheap classes such as guardians and mesmers.

Problem with warrior is not that they depend on auto attacks, is that you need to think a lot and keep mobile on your opponents. This takes a huge learning curve, something that people ignore and simply say: “Oh playing an elementalist with elemental dancing is so haaaard!” When they have the game given to them for free.

WvW wise, I only WvW with my warrior, I got over 1.6k kills and nothing can stand one vs and rarely 2 v 1 against me, so don’t give me that bullkitten about warriors being useless in WvW. I do admit, there is a huge population of horrible warriors. I say 9 out of 10 warriors I faced suck. In fact I only faced 2 decent ones to the date.

You are a glass cannon, you are made to die. Further more this strategy you are using is what every expect of a new warrior, people KNOW you will use HB specially after trying to knock them down, this is why more people use stability based skills. Also glass cannons will die easily to other glass cannons and bunker builds. Not to mention the simplicity of this build = you are asking to die.

I agree and disagree. I agree that dragon fights lack interesting mechanics, I loved how epic they looked the first time but after doing them so much I am bored sick of them. Specially the claw of Jormag who seems to take forever to die. Then again this isn’t much different from games with a Holy trinity. I used to play a tank in every game i tried, from paid to play like WoW/Rift/Swtor to free to play like Grand fantasia and other probably unknown titles. The problem with the holy trinity is that most of the time if you are a healer everyone will want you, if you are a tank chances are for the same, DPS become the black sheep who can’t do anything unless you are a god at doing so or have a guild willing to take you, long range classes will always have a spot over melee so on it goes.

Personally I don’t like the way dungeons are as they are now. Not because of the lack of a trinity but because most of them feel like they lack mechanic designs. Some bosses are incredibly easy, while others are a torture. Classes can become very supportive and in most cases eliminate wipes, I run many dungeons with no wipes or only wiping in places you simply can’t go without dying. Such as CoF Explore.

Personally I would make the mechanics of each fight more dodge, CC and and hit on the run oriented, rather than here you go, this bunch of elites want to kill you, deal with em by dying and running back. Or hey is the final boss…how about you just press 1 on this cannon for 15 minutes until he dies?

The holy trinity doesn’t solve this, if anything it makes it worse, let’s take wow for example. Tank walks in, he uses some lame AoE some small cool down, stays there while healer spams him and dps targets whatever, he keeps spamming same AoE in a rotation and then repeats all over. The most deep mechanic you ever have is either taunting to take the boss off main tank or maybe turning the boss around. Over all is not challenging at all.

In reality the game only needs some extra working, for example, if Claw of Jormag is gonna breath, force people to GTFO or get frozen or killed from the breath, If he attacks with his claw, make people have to use a dodge in the right time to avoid it, make him swing his tail and make people have to jump to avoid it, you get what I mean. But a fight with hitting a wall of ice or protecting some sloooow moving incredibly lame golems isn’t fun as you are not the one fighting the fight most of the time, the npcs are.

As for dungeons, is true you can support each other but I say the combo system is what needs to be worked on. So far most combos are made with long range skills usually with the aid of an elementalist and the results are always a lame elemental projectile or an elemental shield. Sure you get the random condition remove or heal but those are also lame. What I purpose is to have more synergy between melee attacks and abilities, this would grant people the ability to support and deal greater damage while fighting rather placing aoes on the floor and hoping to trigger something.

Agree, yet like the poster above said if you use it right when you charge or do a roll you are more likely to hit, yet this falls on the same category as dual sword skill #4 which becomes incredibly frustrating to land thanks to it’s range.

Only adrenaline skills worth using are: Axe if you are high power/crit/crit damage, Hammer < Duh reasons, Long bow in WvW and the rifle. Other than that I ignore the adrenaline “Burst” moves. They pretty much suck and leave you vulnerable.

Lol you are either trolling or you were really low on health, cause honestly even in full power crit spec, HB won’t one shot anyone. Even with quickness a follow up with whirl will only move the warrior away so he would need to use some moves to finish you up which apparently he didn’t.

I wouldn’t do Hundred blades, why for one is the only thing that makes the GS a heavy hitter and it rarely hits any real player. I would leave it as what it is just increase it’s damage to a point it actually burst and yeah maybe a stun, knock down or something would add something nice to it, maybe THEN hundred blades will be useful and the greatsword will be a viable weapon in real competitive grounds.

Sounds very solid, I used to roll with sword/board and rifle, well more like still do in WvW that is. I didn’t really care much about vulnerability since for some reason most of the time it didn’t seem to cause any effect, maybe it was bugged at the time? I used to have 30 in the toughness tree. Mainly cause bouncing bullets and other shield talents were just too good. Also 5% of your toughness added to power was too good for over all DPS.

I never used On my mark, instead I used Stomp for a time, used to charge to whoever twas trying to finish a friend and stomp them off if Fear me was in CD. But again looks very solid.

What is the percent chance to add weakness debuff when using a mace?

Problem is not nerfing bunkers, problem is bunker + too many sources of healing is like mixing a tank with a healer into one. Leaving the dps obsolete. I’m perfectly fine with someone barely taking damage as long as their damage is just as crappy. Now when that person packs a punch and takes no damage back there is a problem. Now you add the incredible amount of heals and you get and boom it becomes OP.

Elementalist takes a lot of skill yes, but when you give a class some many opportunities and leave others in the darkness you also know you got a problem.

1) Agree.
2) Dunno some classes need some love in their downed state some need some hate in the end I am not too worried about it.
3) I love the map, had some of the best fights under water with people and messing around with the cannon, underwater combat is a feature of the game, just get used to it and you will love it too.
4) No point in penalizing people, if I end up in a team that sucks I won’t stay in the ship to drown with them, specially people who only want easy glory by relaying on others to win or get them to the point they can get some glory.
5) Warriors don’t start with full adrenaline, thief cannot use any skill without initiative so on so on.

You fix the thief and you will have even more bunkers as nothing else can kill em without massive team work. And yeah team work is what the game should be all about, but it’s team vs team team work not team vs one person kind of team work.

@Ayetes and I guess every class can do that? Games are suppose to be made in a way every class can stand against one another. In the beginning when everyone had different builds and everything was sort of unknown everything stood a chance. Then people understood the power of a bunker and bam problem rose. Bunkers and healers always been the problem of every mmo gameplay.

Back in WoW a bunker blood DK took the flag nothing happened the whole match, a healer took it same story. Everything should be balanced in a simple way, absorb a little more damage then deal less damage, deal more damage absorb less damage. Problem is every class can heal themselves which is extremely good, yet some classes can heal way too much while others way too little. This combined with defense = instant win.

Take guardians for example, today I fought one with my warrior in Spvp we both almost death, I use my heal with max adrenaline bam! restored about 35% of my health, he used his signed bam restored 80%+ as he went from dying to full no problem, now his damage as a bunker was equal to mine and I am in a balanced dps spec. Now add protection, meditation heals and aegis and you got the mother of all opness.

Same happened with an elementalist, she kept switching from earth to water, my attacks dealt so little damage her regeneration kept her full the whole time, it took me, a ranger and a necro to down her. After quite a while too.

How do you call that balance?

Downstate makes it impossible to win 1v2 fights...

You can always continue to damage the downed person with normal attacks or cc push away the other person to finish the one you downed. Downed state only problem is mesmers and thiefs. Warriors deal more damage but can only stop one person with hammer, if they go into Vengance, chances are they will die before killing anything or killing anything won’t save them from vengance state, if a warrior goes vengance and downs 3 people he will die killing one and all the others will auto rally. A Guardian once downed can be dealt with easier than anything as once he uses his #2 he is gone, his #3 skill will only save him if he is alone or getting help from someone. So on it goes with other classes. Thiefs are annoying but they can only buy themselves so much time as their attacks while downed hit for like wut ? 30 damage They can stay there shooting those knifes at you all day and as long as you interrupt their #4 they will die. Mesmers are the only real problem imo.

Personally I find this strange, I roll warriors since pre launch and never had problems with them in WvW. Sure SPvP makes my warrior feels sad inside due to the increasing number of bunker guardians, mesmers and pretty much bunker everything or back stab thief.

In WvW besides a mesmer, there is nothing that can kill me. 1 v 1 98% of the time I win, only way I loose is A) Mesmer < unless he is horrible. Guardian, usually we go our ways since neither can kill one another. C) Another super good warrior which ends like B.

I very rarely use the greatsword as I find it underpower as hell. But I have used many combinations of weapons, sword/shield, /double axes or maxes or swords, mace and shield, rifle builds long bow support builds. Pretty much everything. The thing is most of them succeed, so in reality you just need more practice and experimentation.

Power/Precision/+Crit Damage are the most common for glass cannon builds, I personally prefer Power/vit/Toughness. Runes of the soldier are an ok option but there is many combinations out there, you just need to test and go for what is right for you.

The problem is not mentality is reality. Most classes can’t stand a chance at a bunker guardian 1 v 1, only specific specs and classes can and even so chances are a random team mate will come and seal the deal against you, thus giving the enemy team 5 points for free.

In a simpler explanation is like saying: “I will save for a Ferrari by working part time at Mc Donald’s.”

I main a warrior and I’m always trying to experiment new stuff with him, whenever is weapons combinations, traits or whatever else there is to do. The problem with the warrior is not as huge as people make it sound, the problem with the warrior is that they are balanced in every way, making the other classes who aren’t get an edge on us easily. Now let me explain what I mean.

Say I spec my warrior to be a “tank/bunker” if you go with healing shouts, weapon and shield and play it correctly, you will survive a long time but your damage output will be garbage. This is what you expect of a bunker, at least in most games this is how you balance them. Now we put a bunker guardian on the other hand. He doesn’t need to use a shield leave him with a GS as he gets traits that benefit 2 handed weapon even in the defensive tree. Give him healing meditations what do you get? Same tanking power BUT he still deals enough damage to pair a balance warrior or even out dps him and he does it on multiple targets at once while constantly healing and buffing allies. Use healing signet you go from 20% hp to full no problem. Use your meditations and deal conditions + heal conditions + heal allies and still get your hp full again, by the time you need to heal again signed will be ready for you. Mind you regardless of specs and choices you still get many passive bonus upon yourself. Now how is that fair?

Let’s go to another class, the thief. Spec full defense condition damage thief. He will keep self healing while placing conditions on you. His damage is garbage yes, but the conditions stack so fast they deal all the damage he needs while he heals himself and stealth when needed. Now let’s take a look at a condition damage warrior, sword or maybe rifle. We put a bleed on enemies with 3rd sword hit…can deal 10% more damage to bleeding enemies, now in a bunker build with sword that means like 30 -60 more damage? Our bleed stacking is so slow one can cure it and never see the bleeding do anything. If you go for a crit build you might put a bleed 2 two more. But again so slow it won’t help you much.

Now here is the main problem with warriors and all classes. Spec glass cannon in anything other than a back stab thief or maybe a mesmer and you will be crushed. Spec Balance builds and everything will go sort of ok until you meet a bunker. Spec bunker and win against everything except other bunkers. Now you may say that’s when team work comes in, but I thought team work was meant to be something like sharing buffs and curing each other conditions along with making combos, not teaming 3 v 1 to take down a guardian or mesmer.

Now warrior does all that, but if he does why is he so frown upon? Simple, guardians do all that while packing more fire power, free buffs and healing. Elementalist? Same story, if you learn to dance with your elements you be lol’ing at almost everything. Now that is great cause it requires actual skill which is the same as the warrior, with actual skill the warrior could shine if it wasn’t because the numbers play against him.

Let’s leave aside the mesmer who can pack a punch as any build, confuse the real player behind the character and deal both condition damage and burst damage.

Another problem with the warrior is their main mechanic. Burst, while guardians’s virtues give them free buffs and heals, elementalist elements give them a situation advantage by switching elements, thief stealth make them lethal and confusing and so on the list goes… Warriors burst does nothing. Burst with a rifle you see the kind of numbers you would expect from a burst. Now burst with a sword, laughable easy to dodge damage, mace? IT STUNS if it hits…does it hit? Rarely, even in pve high lvl areas have mobs that can counter the mace burst easily. Hammer? It stuns!!! AND IS AOE!!! But…only if it hits, the long animation means you can walk off the aoe area…not even dodge just walk…even moving pve mobs can dodge it.

Why Warriors are under par in general in pvp.

I agree with the point that warriors can be avoided in melee more than most classes. That is due to this game giving a little bit of realism in how hits land, this however makes ranged much more potent against us. Then again I live in WvW with casual Spvp and I must say I never loose 1 v 1 against a ranged class, 2 v 1 5 – 10 I can win or at least down one, if it wasn’t for the down mechanic I most likely would kill both.

The rest of the thread is plain crap, specially the whole norn get’s hit easy…my god…I wonder if people have brains somewhere in that head or maybe they just have a huge bag of tears. Over all I now roll a Charr warrior, maxed size too, I feel no difference against my size.

You do realize sigils only modify the weapon they are slot in right? Like if you using a sword and an axe and the sword has +5% damage this won’t affect the attacks you make with the axe and vice versa.
