I’m not really that excited nor am I not excited – I’m neutral. If you need 250 shells, 100 tier 6 mats to get any blue infusion slot item, then I can’t imagine what a higher quality infusion slot item will be like and that will make me probably like it less. New tier of gear that requires a 1/4 – 1/2 legendary grind – nty. They aren’t even items you can visually see. Getting Foefire’s essence, for example, is worth it to me, cause it looks amazing.

I got significantly less loot from a event chain I’ve been doing for the past month or so in Orr on a daily basis. I would usually get at least 1 rare every day. Today, I just got blues and greens and half the overall loot I got before. Meh. I did the Dwayna temple event too, just to see if it was maybe bad luck. Blue trash from the risen priestess, blue trash from the legendary statue, 3 blue trash and 1 coral tentacle from chest…

Were Exotics really not worth it?

Aw, what rarity items below exotic look good? :O jw

Considering how ugly the crafted exotic sets are (especially the weapons and medium armor), is it that important?

The best looking medium armor in the game is the rare T3 human cultural weapon btw. Rare quality. Also, if you don’t get level 80 exotics, aim for level 79 or slightly lower rares instead. You can reskin those with the cheaper stones. As for armor sets, the best looking while still incredibly cheap one can get (in my opinion) is the karma bought level 79 medium armor set from that Malchor thing map :p In light armor it’s the crafted winged set and heavy armor is all ugly :o

I like Norn tier 2 more than Human tier 3 for medium female armor. For human cultural, tier 3 light is definitely my favorite for female. What armor set from Malchor are you referring to? This one – http://www.gw2armor.com/norn/female/k5/medium/display_looks.php? Not all heavy armor is ugly. The gladiator’s, barbaric and draconic are decent IMO – again this is for female characters. Most male character armors look decent.

If Ascended gear were exotics with the protection against the new dungeon’s enemy, the majority of you would still complain. “QQ, we were promised we wouldn’t have a mandatory grind to get gear to do everything in the game (except Legendarys)”.

But the impact of dungeon-specific bonuses would be so much smaller. It wouldn’t impact WvW or the rest of PvE.

Also, there are already dungeon-specific bonuses—e.g. those sigils with +% damage to particular enemies found in dungeons. Those don’t get any complaints.

True, but those sigils are just… I hate when I get them as drops.

They are planning on bringing ascended crap to rest of PvE and WvW I believe. Whatever, I like my idea of implementing no new tier and adding a challenging way to get infusion, similar to GW1 but more challenging.

Why don’t they give grinders a sparkling star next to that pink weapon name, so they can brag with getting it the difficult way?

So you mean legendary weapons? They’re pretty sparkly, stand out and there’s a huge grind to get them.

While I am neutral about this whole patch, infusion similar to that of GW would be acceptable. No new tier needed. Just run a dungeon or instanced ‘quest’ similar to PS and you have your protection against fractal enemies. Obviously, they would need to make it somewhat challenging of course.

Why does everyone hate Trahearne?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Magiofdeath.2745

Magiofdeath.2745

And sylvari are just a third-world country with no influence whatsoever.

That’s false. They’ve systematically (and disproportionately) populated all three orders, with highly-placed members in all three and shock troops throughout. They’re very common in corrupted zones because their immunity to dragon corruption means that they won’t add to the enemy’s numbers, so while there are very few sylvari in general, there is a lopsided number in the Orders because the Orders are fighting the dragons— which is the sylvari’s instinct and mandate from the Pale Tree as well.

Their influence is out of proportion to their numbers. When the Pale Tree talks, the Orders listen, in part because the Orders are so densely packed with Sylvari, many either in positions of influence or rank.

This is also why the Orders give Trahearne more leeway, too. All of the Order Sylvari are very aware that he is a Firstborn, ordered by the Pale Tree to research and cleanse Orr as his Wyld Hunt— he’s been there his entire life, alone, doing nothing but studying everything about it. As (most) Sylvari defer to anyone with greater experience in any given field, respect the Firstborn, and obey the Pale Tree, you can bet that they will be influencing each Order they’re in to go along.

All of this is pretty crazy, when you consider the very popular theory that the Sylvari are simply minions of a sixth Elder dragon. Sure they are friendlier than their Nightmare counterparts… but in only 25 years they have gained this much power and influence? What if this was their [former?] Draconic master’s plan all along? Infiltrate and consolidate power for the resistance against the Elder Dragons, fight the Sylvari dragon’s enemies (other Elder Dragons, as well as any opposition to this consolidation of power ie Flame Legion, Inquest, etc).

Once the Sylvari dragon does emerge, he already has already taken taken out any threats against himself from the non-Sylvari races, as well as the other Dragons.

Strange popular theory because if this popular theory became true, and Sylvari became all evil, we wouldn’t be able to play as them and well, you thought there was rage over the upcoming patch, imagine what would happen if people weren’t able to play their lvl 80 Sylvaris all of a sudden. Lol.

Its mostly the people that are completely against this patch that are saying this, lol. If you are neutral (like me) about the patch or favor it, you seem to know that overall, its not that big of a % increase.

So, how much of an increase is ok before we are allowed to complain? 5%? 10%? 43,2%? And who decides on that? I guess that’s up to everyone individually. There was a stats cap on exotics, even legendaries weren’t better. Now this is raised, which naturally annoys people that already invested much of their time to get exoctics. Imo, considering what ANet previously said, even an overall increase of 0,1% is too much.

Except exotics are really not that hard to get….I have a full time job and usually stay over time and I generally take a after work snooze (I work early AM) and I have had no difficulty getting exotics. I haven’t even bought the mats off the TP. I have a full set of exotic armor, 5 exotic weapons and I have the mats to make a full set of exotic jewelry. Minimal time investment. Ascended gear will take me longer to get because I don’t have an active guild to run dungeons with.

Then again though, I farm alot when I’m on, because once you hit level cap in any MMO, there really isn’t much else to do aside from PvP, dailys, or dungeons/raids (if applicable for raids). sPvP is pretty fun, just haven’t gotten deeply involved in it. I already do the daily achievements (which helps to get the mats for exotics, since I generally just do events in Orr for dailys) and well, like I said, inactive guild = no dungeon running.

Just to clear something up here… its not anyone’s math thats wrong… per say:

A percentage is taken in relation to something (a total figure), people are getting two different numbers because your taking the % of two different numbers.

1) the % increase from exotic – Ascended on each item is 8%

2) the % increase you gain on top of your stat’s is between 0.1 and 1% depending on the amount of pieces you have.

Personally i think its a minimal difference to your character and its performance but obviously something people want to aim to get but as mentioned its something i’d happily aim for instead of the legendary pain in the kitten

yes thats true
but these ppl spreading wrong info that your character will be 8%-46% stronger in ascended gear than exotics

Its mostly the people that are completely against this patch that are saying this, lol. If you are neutral (like me) about the patch or favor it, you seem to know that overall, its not that big of a % increase.

And like I said earlier, if you’re getting owned in WvW that has ~50 more power than you, you’re doing it wrong.

Sigh. These are the rings we know of so far:
https://d2vn94glaxzkz3.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Ascended-EN.png
Primary attribute here is MF, secondaries are power and precision.

Exotic combined stats:
7% MF
63 power
63 precision

Ascended combined stats:
10% MF
68 power
68 precision

That’s a 43% increase on the primary attribute and an 8% increase on the secondaries.

There’s a 10% to 20% step between other rarities:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Item#Quality

Go figure what that means for a full ascended set compared to an exotic set.

Oh man, going from 3000 power to 3005 power is such a game breaker. +8% of 3000 is 240. If I got 8% more power, then I would be at 3240 power, but this item is giving me 3005 power total. Yes, going from 63 to 68 is 8% difference, but OVERALL, its very small.

If you all get owned in WvW by someone who has 5 more power than you, you’re doing it wrong.

There are many things wrong in this post. Let’s start from the start :
- you do not have 3000 power. Maybe 3000 attack though
- you can equip two rings
- the Ruby equivalent ring is bound to have more than a 5 power increase since it’s the main stat and the example we were given it was a secondary stat
- the power increase will be effective on ALL your gear so it adds up
- the ascended weapon will not only have more power, it’ll also have more damage in base so it’ll increase your total attack by even more

I was talking about that one ring. 3000 power was a random number I chose. So 5 power on a ring, gives me 5 power to each piece of gear (all gear as you put it)? Uhm what? How does +5 power effect my chest piece? I am talking about ONE piece of gear, the ring, nothing else. Say each piece did give +5 power, for example’s sake, that would be +30 power. Using my example number, that’s 3030 power. If you take the percentage, you are getting a total of 48% (48% of 3000 is well over 3030). AGAIN, I am just saying each piece giving +5 power as an example and to make explaining simpler. I know each gear piece actually gives different numbers. Chest gives the most, then leggings, then hands, boots, shoulders, etc etc.

Your post is also wrong, because I was talking about 1 ring, not an entire set….I mean afterall, this outcry started with 1 ring and 1 backpiece.

Saurus gets it.

I’ll do the math when I get home, using my ranger’s character sheet, and +8% on each secondary attribute and I’ll just say +20% on each primary attribute. I’m willing to bet that I won’t gain a +1000 stat increase in any given stat. I’m only going to do armor and jewelry for now.

Magiofdeath.2745

“the game progression made by gear progression, its only the easy way to gather the type of player that dont enjoy a true challenge”

Ok, so you’re going to immediately get fractal level 100 or w/e the max is? You’ve played games where there were raids that you cleared 100% easily? You did everything in GW1 and cleared places like UW solo? What is your definition of ‘true challenge’? A gear progression can be challenging, if done correctly.

“Being bored with the dungeons means ANET failed to make them fun. Giving you more powerful gear for doing the dungeons doesn’t mean they suddenly become fun. It just gives you a reason to deal with the fact that they aren’t fun.”

I haven’t really seen a game where dungeons were 100% fun. Even GW1’s dungeons were not warranting re-running them once a week if not everyday. Frostmaw’s Burrows was really fun for me, but that was about it. Fissure of Woe was really fun, but I didn’t run it every week. In other games, you only run dungeons to get tokens/badges to get better gear. In hack and slashes like Diablo 2, you run the same boss areas to get unique items. Crap, even in GW1, people ran dungeons to get the better skinned weapons. So in essence, dungeon running is only really used for grinding towards skin/gear progression – I’ve never seen any game make dungeons “fun” where it warrants “hey guys, lets go run this dungeon because its fun” – no its always been for some form of progression.

What is a Gear Treadmill?

Anyway rant aside, a “gear treadmill” in an MMO is inevitable as its what these games are built around.

Inevitable you say? I’m pretty sure there’s an extremely relevant counterexample that disproves that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guild_Wars

If GW1 was actually an MMO, you might have a point, but it’s not in any sense of the word. Unless you consider any game you play online, a MMO:)

This is actually true. GW1 was known as a CORPG (Cooperative Online Role-Playing Game) and was marketed as such. GW2 is marketed as a traditional MMO. I don’t know where I’m going with this aside from backing your statement up.

Magiofdeath.2745

Where was all this outcry of 150 pages when skill points and temple of balthazar was practically continually bugged for over a month after release? I don’t get this community – there was game breaking bugs in the game for over a month after release and there wasn’t a single thread that was 150 pages worth of people complaining about that (I did complain about that because it was a problem) and now they add a new tier of gear and there’s a thread that has amassed 150 pages of outcry. This new tier seems infinitesimal to the game breaking bugs the game had for a month, and which are still present to some small degree with PS, etc. I just don’t get it – can someone please explain that to me?

Sure, happy to help explain.

That was an unintentional bug that we all assumed would be fixed eventually.

This is a radical departure from years of design directions and could potentially signal huge changes in how end game gear and rewards are developed.

This entire game has been a huge change from the original GW. In GW1, I could do practically anything with all heros and if necessary a consumable set and didn’t have to worry about playing with randoms. Now, I have to rely on people to run a dungeon, whereas I didn’t in GW1. Some would say that is a radical departure from their design direction. Hate it or love it, GW is not what it used to be – its now a traditional style MMO. I like GW1 more than GW2 because of this but I’m willing to accept changes. If they add 25-man raids, then I’m done, lol. I don’t want new tiers every 3 months either, but I am going to give them the benefit of a doubt, that this is the only additional tier they will add and be neutral about it. We don’t know anything at this point aside what they’ve laid out in text. I just wish people would see what happens before raging. You know, being neutral about it.

I do understand and appreciate these comments, it’s true that this is a different game.

But in many of those other examples you put forth, they’ve come out and explained how they are departing and why over the last 3 or 4 years.

This case is one where they are directly contradicting years of direct commentary about GW2 specifically.

I also understand that we don’t have all the facts. But we don’t need more facts then they’ve currently provided us to see reasonable evidence that design has changed.

If, if fact it hasn’t changed, the onus lies with them to provide evidence to support a non-changing stance. Saying, “There is no gear treadmill” is not evidence. It’s an opinion.

Something along the lines of “We understand concerns over implementation of a gear treadmill. The ascended armor is designed to provide a rarity gap, rather than a statistical gap. Because of this, it will provide the agony protection to go along with the fractals dungeon, but no additional statistic benefit over current exotic gear”

That is all it would take to calm this storm. That they will not say this indicates to me that the design has indeed shifted.

I see what you’re saying. While I am neutral about this, there have been many things since release that has screamed that NCSoft is in charge and not ANet. Maybe this is one of those examples. I’m probably going to get infracted for saying this, but its my honest opinion.

We shall see.

I don’t really even understand the lore behind karka – is there even any? Are they even related to the dragons? What’s the lore behind the new dungeon too? Are they just adding things to add things? Lol. (Yeah, sorry, offtopic but yeah, this new enemy just seems weird – I honestly thought we were going to meet ‘Bubbles’ champion or something).

Where was all this outcry of 150 pages when skill points, temple of balthazar, etc was practically continually bugged for over a month after release? I don’t get this community – there was game breaking bugs in the game for over a month after release and there wasn’t a single thread that was 150 pages worth of people complaining about that (I did complain about that because it was a problem) and now they add a new tier of gear and there’s a thread that has amassed 150 pages of outcry. This new tier seems infinitesimal to the game breaking bugs the game had for a month, and which are still present to some small degree with PS, etc. I just don’t get it – can someone please explain that to me?

There’s a few ways they could address that stat gap to keep Exotic viable.

a.) L80 Runes/Sigils/Jewels that Ascended Quality items cannot equip. Thus ensuring that Ascended gear has a smaller statistical advantage but trades off the utility and customization of runes/sigils much like the medallions that drop now do.

I think only infusion upgrades can go into a infusion slot. I want a full set of superior runes of the ranger on my damage set of exotic armor – I don’t think Ascended gear would give me this, since from what I understand, we cannot put runes in ascended gear, only infusions. That’s not to say there won’t be “Infusion(s) of the ranger” or something. There isn’t enough information to clarify that.

Why did I even bother spending 5g on a guild backpack? Why did I waste my ectos on crafting exotic rings and jewels? Its all obsolete now and I am feeling very discouraged.

I plan on doing the same thing and here’s why – I don’t plan on getting ascended gear right away if at all because I don’t run dungeons due to lack of activity in my guild. Yeah, I may be weaker in WvW (even though Chris said they will be adding ascended gear in WvW at some point), but honestly for WvW, at least in my case, I’ve gotten stomped when I was not with a zerg and got ganked by a mob from the opposing team while wondering around alone for map completion. I can still do non dungeon PvE things fine with my exotics. I also try not to go to the TP for my crafted exotics, so I can save gold.

Doesn’t really matter. You will either stop playing or keep playing. They have already made the decision that it will not impact them negatively finacially. Thier hope is that it will bring in more people, keep some people who would have left from leaving, and that will offset those that leave.

I am sure they knew that there would be a level of dissent. I am sure they surmised that they would lose players. I am sure they took all this into account and decided that the ones they throw under the bus would not impact thier bottomline as much as sticking to thier original plan.

If you are disappointed and quit, they don’t really care, you have already been factored in and accounted for.

Hahaha, yes sure thing because they’re so wise and can’t make massive mistakes. Flip back a page or two and find the post with the link to the LotRO Devs admitting total failure with a new game concept/mechanic, after they lost a lot of their playerbase and had to go F2P. So much for ‘accounting for’ lmao.

Except this game is already F2P?

The QQ in this thread, from both sides, is legendary. There should be a new legendary weapon based on this thread and it should be called “QQ’ers Lament”.

I’m neither for or against this. I’m ok with this because they already have a massive grind to get legendarys, so don’t see the harm in adding a gear progression grind (hint: the grind, no matter what it is, is strong in this game). I have my doubts about this because we don’t have enough inventory/bank space for all this crap – I had 4 armor sets in GW1 for my ranger, which was no problem, because EVERY SINGLE material had a collection for it – we are missing our collection for rare mats. GW1 also didn’t have mystic forge consumables, WvW blueprints, the amount of runes GW2 has, sigils, etc. I also had more than enough bank space at the end of GW1 – I’m not saying we won’t be giving increased inventory/bank space as this game continues on, but currently (without buying an additional finite number of bank slots) we simply do not have enough room for multiple sets of armor/weapons let alone 4 sets of armor. I am not going to worry about the ascended gear making current gear obsolete just yet – I would like to see how it goes when the update goes live. The inventory space as the game grows is a huge concern for me though. While GW1 didn’t have it, I would fully support a armor/weapon skin locker like we have in PvP. They could just make it so that when you earn the armor/weapon, you unlock the skin as a transmute similar to that of the HoM skins.

Comedy material, so there’s more stuff to grind for in GW2 now and you’re fine with adding more like a gear-grind?

And stop QQing about bank space please, you know… buy a few gems and unlock more bank slots – that’s how this game is supposed to be funded long term (you played GW1 – really?)

I reason I said I was “ok” with the new grind is because they already have one, so why all the QQ over another grind? I assume those QQ’ing do not care to do the legendary grind either.

Yes, I did play GW1 and I didn’t buy one extra bank slot. I bought the cosmetic things though. Did you play GW1? You would know they gave plenty of extra bank slots for free. There were 7 total and a material storage in GW1. I didn’t buy any extra slots and still had free space 7 years later. Can’t say that much for GW2 currently. I have a feeling that even after buying the FINITE number of extra slots, I would still run out of room.

C and G.

There is so much they can add, and they come up with a gear treadmill? Come on Anet, you can do better than this.

Erm, this is just a small content addition.

They haven’t even touched upon Cantha, Elona, Ring of Fire island chain, Dominion of Winds, etc etc – this content update is more like a Sorrow’s Furnace GW1 update. They are adding a new dungeon, a new zone and new items. Personal story and the like won’t be added until most likely a new expansion or when they add content that involves us going after the next elder dragon. Who’s to say jumping puzzles aren’t being added with the new zone that’s opening up.

Too many people whining before they actually see what’s offered.

I am curious what you all do after reaching 80, getting full exotics and 100% map completion to continue the play value of this game, whether you are against or for the Ascended armor.

I ask because there’s been a ton of people that have left the game since there’s not much else for them to do after achieving those 3 things.

IMO, Legendarys are a long term answer to play value, and making a new character is a way to increase the play value.

For people, like myself though who is really only a one person character and not exactly into legendaries (most of them are actually ugly), what else is there to do? Granted, I still play, but I have found myself getting bored. I am not in a guild that is active enough to do dungeons. Jumping puzzles and the like are short term. WvW is an option and so is spvp. I’m more or less indifferent about the ascended armor since I prob won’t do the new dungeon anyways, but its just nice to have that progression option.

Actually, I do have a problem with new tier of gear. No space to put all these armors I’d like to get. There’s really no point having anything beyond a damage, support, magic find and if you’re into it, WvW set. That’s 4 sets of armor, which is 24 slots total taken up if you get a WvW set. Yeah, ANet, if you’re gonna add more armor, do something about the storage that doesn’t involve having to buy bank slots, because you can only have a finite number of those anyways. Yeah, I know GW1 was similar, but we didn’t have nearly the amount of items in GW1 that are in GW2 this early on. I bought one additional bank tab and its already full – I didn’t fill this many tabs this quick in GW1.

Ok, seriously, are those complaining also in favor of welfare IRL? I’m going to go ahead and assume those complaining do not have legendary weapons and expect things to just be handed to them without any effort or just minimal effort. If you’re complaining about a small armor progression grind, then I can only assume you are not for the legendary weapon grind either, since that takes a huge amount of time, farming and/or gold spent. Crafting exotics are a joke. I have a full exotic set of armor and 4 exotic weapons, and plan on finishing up upgrading my ranger’s weapons to exotic (except torch cause torch is meh, but that’s another topic). I also plan on upgrading my magic find armor set to exotic. This is minimal effort. I am ok with this addition, because it adds something else to do in the game, that is optional. I don’t think a small stat increase is going to break WvW, but that’s my thoughts on the matter.

So legendary grind is ok but a grind to progress is not ok? Uhm what?

What’s this about Ascended set that prob won’t have toughness, vitality being better than the WvW set that has the stats that are useful for WvW (you know, survival). You all have fun with that Ascended gear that gives MF, crit, etc while I have WvW gear that mitigates dmg and gives me increased hp.

A bunch of whining in this thread. Don’t do the new dungeon if you don’t want to have to get the ascended gear.

Its so funny, people complain there’s now way to progress beyond what we have now, ANet gives it to us and they complain about that. If I don’t want to get ascended gear and run the new dungeon, I don’t have to and neither do you. I’m cool with having all crafted exotics and eventually working towards the mystic forge uniques (not legendarys). Skin progression is basically the same as gear stat progression. If you don’t care to get it, you can choose not to. Only the vain and elitist care for legendary skins and gear stat progression. This is the people that have legendaries – “Look at me, I have a rainbow bow, I am so pro, I am not going to tell you what weapon this is when asked and instead just waypoint away because you are inferior to me”. The people that play for stat progression are the same way – “You don’t have my level of gear, you’re inferior”.

Furthermore, the people that get legendaries really shouldn’t be complaining because…

“So fear not, all existing Legendary weapons, which are currently on par with Exotics, will be upgraded to be on par with Ascended weapons at the same time that we add Ascended weapons to the game. Thus Legendaries will remain “best-in-slot” items. All Legendary items going forward will be of Ascended power.”

Noone’s forcing anyone to do anything. I could choose to get a exotic magic find set, but seeing it doesn’t actually offer a significant amount of additional magic find, I stuck with the rares for armor set and masterwork for jewelry. If they had gear that was better than exotics, and I didn’t want to get it, then I wouldn’t – you’re not being forced into anything.
