When they were developing the game a couple years ago they posted this pic, def the hottest character I’ve seen in a video game…and I’m female >.>
That one was pretty good. The funny thing about that picture is that the armor she’s wearing looks like the light cultural armor for Norn, but no light armor classes can use rifles (unless its an environmental weapon).
I think you two will have a hard time finding each other, seeing that player names don’t appear in WvW for opponents, lol.
Most female Norn.
Lol @ the dredge chief.
would do 100 JP’s over 7 fractals. simply because i don’t get booted from fractals and can’t get back in. because i don’t have to spend periods of extended time finding a group to do them with.
when the next big patch that addresses these fundamental fractals issues then i wouldn’t mind so much.
and sure, everyone enjoys one thing more than the other. some fracs >>> jp’s. others jp’s >>> fracs. i enjoy both, and while the jp can be “exploited” and thus, taking away the “enjoyment” for many, you don’t have to do it the same way other people do. i’ve mentioned this elsewhere, you can take wagers and race your friends in guilds. make it interesting if they are that unbearable. people will think fractals are unbearable. if you choose to do the monthly, then you should just do ‘em. and try to enjoy yourself along the way. if they are in fact not enjoyable, and you still feel compelled to do them, well, i want to say you don’t get to “complain”.
I’ve run dozens of fractals over the past couple weeks. Of all those fractals I’ve maybe had a disconnect be an issues…three times? Maybe two?
It’s not the overblown problem people make it out to be.
That issue has yet to happen to me.
Its because Christine Cox is greedy, and ANet is falling for her greedy views on cash shops. I don’t really trust her.
Dredge are no harder than most other mobs, imo. The real pain are the Ice Imps, they hit about 5x harder than most other mobs and are just an all-round pain in the kitten
Shadow imps are pretty bad too, with their poison attacks. Going back to get the achievement for Windy Cave treasure or w/e its called was quite the adventure since not nearly as many people were doing it when I did it back when I was lvl 40 or so. Those dang veteran shadow imps and its minions/altars. So annoying.
Imps are annoying.
Dredge are pretty annoying.
Orr mobs that stun.
There were far more annoying monsters in GW1 though (I’ve made a list, which is at home on my computer). Let’s just say I hope afflicted (they are on my list) don’t come back somehow in the cantha content of GW2 – dragon corrupted afflicted..that would be fun.
Yes
Not many of us Oromea (OREO) are left playing WvW at present. Most of the clan is in DF beta
There are 3 of us active in WvW right now although I am trying to get some of them back.
What game is DF? Haven’t heard of this one.
The toys have made very very small skirmishes in WvW interesting. I’ve been in a 2v2 skirmish near a gift where an opposing server member went and opened a gift and then it became 2v5v2, lol. I have also seen it where escaping opponents would open a box to help escape, due to the toy enemies being able to stun and snare.
There’s a couple of guilds I recognize from other servers and other new guilds I never met before from JQ this morning. I thought HGBQ is from SoR.
HGBQ has been on JQ for months. We don’t have huge numbers of new guilds on JQ. We are just getting what we have into WvW plus a few new guilds/folks in the last few weeks.
If you are trying to infer that we are somehow stacked with a ton of new WvW folks this week then I am sorry to dissapoint you. We do have a number of prominent WvW guilds who have changed their tags in the last few weeks as well as some leaders have left and the remaining officers picked up the slack. Maybe thats what you have seen.
Getting close to winning part 2 of my bet.
I have definitely seen HGBQ on JQ for quite some time. I have also seen HzH on JQ for a really long time.
Not at you Kreen, but to the others – a server does well in something competitive, and accusations start flying that they are exploiting or getting mass transfers. Gotta love it.
11:30 am cst 1/2/2013
JQ still ahead. Where is SOS’s homeland again?
Wow. On New Year’s Eve, I played on JQ BL with HzH commander, Ben Sheets, and SoS BL didn’t look like that. We only had one tower on SoS BL (rest was green) and now its mostly blue with some red, but no green (obviously it could be different now since this posting). Its interesting how much turnaround a WvW match can have.
Fractals actually take relatively little time and are pretty fun. I pug them, and have had minimal issues. Maybe I’ve just gotten lucky with pugs.
So with the booster and everything else, MF is more towards 200%. If Geeo’s findings are the norm with that much, then it would seem you would need ~200% to actually get anything worthwhile. So who wants to test? Lol.
Geeo, what lodestones were these? Charged lodestones definitely have a way worse drop rate than corrupted lodestones outside of dungeons.
JQ is fairly active. Always on overflow in LA and while I don’t see as many people in low level zones as launch, I still see a decent number. I never seeing anyone do group events though, but that’s a problem with group events, not server population. If the group event doesn’t give a chest reward (temples, dragons and a few other metas), then people simply won’t do it. The Town of Nageling giant is usually up, untouched for example. That risen shark outside of Fort Trinity is also always swimming around.
Overflow servers seem to be used to get the monthly faster. Its very similar to the pumpkin carving achievement during Halloween and the snowman building one during Wintersday.
I use MF for getting crafting materials, and for the most part (NOT charged lodestones), it works pretty decently. I haven’t noticed much of a difference in large scale events or dungeons though. I got 5 rares in one fractal set WITHOUT a magic find set, whereas other times I get just blues and greens while wearing a MF set. I also kept on wearing my mf set during fractal trash mobs to try and get a vial. The instant I said “ok, this isn’t helping” and switched to my main non-mf set, I got 2 vials of condensed mist within a few mins of each other. It was rather silly.
People telling others that jumping puzzles are easy and how to use exploits to get the achievement are missing the point.
Some people aren’t interested in that content, no matter how “Easy” it may be to get.
Offering viable alternatives would be a much more elegant solution, hence my previous suggestion.
And there’s people that are forced to do WvW for monthlies when they don’t want to (sorry, but 20 mystic coins and 10 jugs of karma very difficult to pass on), and that’s been every month since launch. I really don’t see the big deal here with the jumping puzzles. No viable alternatives exist for WvW apparently (despite players asking it to be changed), so why should a viable alternative exist for something that will probably happen just this month?
Don’t know where the JPs are? This link should help…
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Jp
Really don’t understand the outcry here.
I would rather see more things like this than having to get 50 WvW kills every month, despite having a really fun time getting my 50 kills on New Year’s Eve.
What is the symbol on the flags for the loading screens of WvW? I know I’ve seen it somewhere, but I can’t remember where.
I’m referring to the ‘key’ looking one in the center of the circle design.
A friend made this one up.
Moa bird name – KFC (Krytan Fried Chicken)
My Sylvari elementalist’s name – Genlisea violacea (a carnivorous plant)
I’m surprised I haven’t seen more parodies of Star Wars names on Charr, since they have a Charr Death Star in Black Citadel.
:( Still on vacation
This is what I’m talking about. I am spending time with friends and family for new year and all I’m feeling is guilt and shame because my absence is contributing to the loss.
Before new year SoS was leading 10K. Wake up and see JQ ahead by 20k. Worst new year morning ever.
Thanks Anet
Friends and family are more important than a video game. If my friends had wanted to actually do something tonight, I would of been hanging out with them. The game will be here when you get back.
I don’t completely agree with you that stealth is a ‘weak’ mechanic in this game. I guess I should just start throwing traps all over the freakin place every 10 secs since there is no way to tell where the player went once they use stealth – you have to guess.
Really, they just need to get rid of PvE things in WvW. If I want to PvP, I will gladly go to sPvP, but its annoying that in order to get 20 mystic coins and 10 jugs of karma per month via monthly achievements, I am forced to do WvW. You’d have to be dumb to skip out on 20 mystic coins and 10 jugs of karma.
My main problem with thieves is that they can stealth mid-combat with very little cooldown in between stealths. Even another MMO I’ve played that shall remain un-named had better balancing for thieves/rogues. In that MMO, there were very few skills where they could stealth mid combat and they were on long cooldowns. I was just against a thief that was stealthing every 10 secs or so. That’s just asinine. In PvP in this game, thief seems the carebear class, because all you have to do is stab ppl in the back for 15k+ dmg and stealth every 10 secs.
250 is a pretty small sample size.
About a month ago I opened 3000 Heavy Supply Bags and got:
49 Onyx Cores (1.63%)
11 Onyx Lodestones (0.36%)
You can only get heavy supply bags in WvW correct? Getting 3000 of those would be a pain unless you buy them from the TP, but that would get expensive. They have worse drop rates than the heavy moldy bags.
Yeah these bags are dumb. The bags that potentially hold anything worthwhile have such horrible drop rates though. But following Anet’s model, this is not surprising. This is also why I have 25 putrid essences and 4 charged lodestones. Lol.
I am planning on making endless quiver. If I make the infusion for it as well, then make the infused version of the quiver, do I lose the infusion I put into the non-infused quiver?
A timer on anything put into the TP would be nice. Every other MMO I’ve played has a time limit on things you put up for sale.
The elemental cores/lodestones cannot drop from these bags, but the undead version of the lodestone has a chance to drop. The T6 pile of crap (putrid essence)…which I got none of (I have 25 of those anyways, so didn’t care). I went with heavy moldy bags because they drop so often from Orr, I just decided to get a max stack of them and open them.
These bags drop cores/lodestones supposedly…

I made my 3rd Legendary on Christmas Eve just in time
I’m gonna set my goal for my 4th Legendary sometime 2nd week of March 2013 <3
May I ask how you already have 3 legendaries? Which ones did you make? How did you get enough lodestones/other mats to make 3? Did you ‘legit’ farm them or ‘TP’ farm said mats? I’m curious, because I gave up on bolt because the droprate and cost of charged lodestones is terrible. I am now going for the dreamer bow, since it requires no lodestones. :\
I did this just to see the outcome of materials I’d get, so figure I’d share my experience..
80 silk scraps
5 crystalline dust
10 large fangs
19 large claws
12 potent blood
59 thick leather
16 gossamer scraps
1 vicious claw
17 large scales
13 incandescent dust
17 hardened leather sections
3 elaborate totems
16 potent venom sacs
4 powerful venom sacs
6 piles of vile essence
3 powerful blood
4 vicious fangs
13 intricate totems
4 ancient bone
1 armored scale
Nothing spectacular. Didn’t they say they increased drop rate of powerful blood in containers too? 3 out of 250 bags does not seem that great of a drop rate.
I’ve seen thieves in dungeons, and for the most part, they have no skill. All they do is die, unless they go support or something. So I guess the common thief/rogue is played by people that have no real skill and use stealth as a crutch?
Could be. Could also be that thief is straight-up harder to play in some situations. Thieves are built to evade hits, not absorb them, so if you’re using dungeons as the measuring stick it takes a better thief to pull out the same effectiveness as another hardier profession. It is one of the quirks that pops up due to ANet’s design philosophy of giving everyone the same offensive potential with vastly different defensive mechanisms. A warrior and thief doing the same damage should have roughly the same survivability, but they’re going to have vastly different skill floors to attain that survivability.
But maybe you were just being rhetorical.
So if they’re built to evade hits, why don’t they? I see a lot of thieves die in PvE content for reasons that could have been avoided by dodge rolling or evading. Did ANet not give thief enough evasion skills? The way most players play thieves has turned me away from making one. In PvP, all they do is use cheap hit and run tactics, which, to me, makes it seem like they use the stealth mechanic way too often and in cheap ways. In PvE, the ones I’ve seen die too fast so why would I want to play a class that apparently doesn’t have enough defensive tactics.
Read what u just wrote …. Its a THIEF class and THIEF goes solo.
You haven’t explained why this is fair for the other classes.
IE. “why would I roll anything else but a thief if I want to do things away from the zerg?” is a bad question for the game to cause.
Is it fair that others can go in large and small groups and perform well?
Thief excels in smaller fights. Always has been that way and always will.
Isn’t going in large and small groups the point of WvW – you know, teamwork? Being able to solo anything in a group environment via stealth and no real skill is not really fair. I’ve seen thieves in dungeons, and for the most part, they have no skill. All they do is die, unless they go support or something. So I guess the common thief/rogue is played by people that have no real skill and use stealth as a crutch?
I managed to kill 5 people solo and escape a level 80 thief today in WvW.
All with my level 12 thief. Honestly, the only reason I got away from the other thief is because I was a thief.
You’re bumped to 80 though.
Nevermind it was SoS. I guess they’re bored and have nothing else to do aside to annoy players at the JQ BLs JP. That’s awesome and super mature of you. Winning and being asinine. Please take out PvE crap from WvW. Going there and getting a repair bill because people want to be asinine is not fun.
PvPing in a PvP zone where you’re meant to PvP is so immature right?
Camping is immature. Just staying in one area to repeatedly kill ppl is immature. Get off your high horse.
Thieves/rogues in every MMO are OP. Its really bad in this game because you can stealth WHILE in combat, where other MMOs you for the most part, cannot. Its stupid. Its like developers don’t know wtf they are doing when it comes to balancing in pvp, especially when it comes to thieves/rogues.

Its not hard for kids to get legendaries when they use mom’s credit card to buy gems and transfer those gems to gold.
Ok, I can see the PVT for light armor. Medium armor though, it only offers 34 pwr, 80 vitality, 168 toughness. Light armor – 180 pwr, 128 vita, 224 toughness. Then there’s melandru that offers…
113 pwr, 176 vita, 128 toughness for medium
Light armor is worse
236 pwr, 200 vita, 192 toughness for heavy which is actually better for each stat than Grenth’s (Grenth’s has 68 pwr, 168 vita, 176 toughness)
I also prefer Melandru’s as a defensive armor set for the reduced duration of conditions the rune set offers. Grenth rune offers condition damage and chill, yay. Not saying you’re wrong, but I just don’t see it being better except for light armor compared to Melandru’s.
Ok, I can see the shades spawn tactic as well, although not really that hard – you just need to be paying attention.
Don’t agree on the farming part though, since people would just let the event fail so they could farm the cleansing stages over and over again. Completing the cleansing stops that, which then you’re stuck with ice elemental spawns (oh yay glacial lodestones).
BTW, got my data from the wiki:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mortal_armor_of_Grenth
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aurora_armor_of_Melandru
The system is fine as is. I am at lvl 3 and did not have any problems finding a group to complete lvl 1 and 2. If you let a lvl 3 join a lvl 53 group, that lvl 3 is going to get kitten consistently by agony. These changes aren’t really making it that much better. If they’re going for non-gating content, then bad way of doing it because its just going to group people into brackets…1-9, 10-19, 20-29, etc etc. Obviously, there isn’t enough details out on this yet. The only way it would make it just slightly better is if the less than level 10 does not get hit by agony. Still though, I am not seeing a problem with the current system really.
Its because people are stupid. They’d rather take Grenth’s temple and forget every other temple.
Since noone on my server could answer this question or cared not to, why do people prioritize Grenth over other temples? What does it offer over the others? Is the armor that much better? Does it open more farming opportunities? As far as I can tell, this is what each temple being uncontested gives us besides armor…
Balthazar – Obsidian shards, opens up ember farming spots (molten lodestones)
Lyssa – opens up multiple type elemental farming spots (various lodestones)
Dwayna – opens up air elemental/spark farming spots (charged lodestone)
Grenth – opens up ice elemental farming spots (glacial lodestones)
Melandru – opens up earth elemental farming spots (onyx lodestones)
You would think, seeing how easy Dwayna’s is and how much the charged lodestones are going for, that players would keep that one uncontested consistently, and thus make that top priority. Then 2nd priority would be Melandru to open up the earth elementals farming sports for onyx lodestones. Glacial lodestones don’t even sell for nearly as much on the TP.
What am I missing that makes Grenth so important?
I still need an answer to this…
They should add events that involve a large amount of elementals since event drop rates seem better, and it would be a way to have more options to farm elementals since events repeat. That would be better than having to wait for Dwayna’s temple or whatever temple to be re-taken by us. I’m surprised molten lodestones aren’t more seeing that Balthazar’s temple (the trigger for spawning embers in Orr) is never taken.
I have a grand total of 4 charged lodestones, 2 onyx and 1 molten. 1 of the charged was from finding a core in 1 of 100 bags of theoretical materials I bought on the TP to see the drop rate and then buying another core to do that mystic forge recipe to upgrade it to a lodestone. The molten I upgraded from 2 cores – 1 of which I got as a drop and 1 which I bought from TP and mystic forged them. I found 2 onyx lodestones off earth elementals from Lyssa’s temple (separate days) and the other 3 charged lodestones, I found 1 at Lyssa’s temple and 2 outside of Doric’s waypoint.

Attended/looted/no mail
OP, you’re asking people to take the time to kill something when there is a high chance of no loot or crap loot. I’ve killed veteran karka a few times and not once have I received loot. I am not going to bother fighting a champion karka when I can just put my pet on it, grab the ore and leave, lol. Sure, you could make it a group event, but unless there’s a chest that spawns at the end of it, most people still probably won’t take the champ down. You see this all over the game – group events do not get done unless they spawn a big chest at the end. Yeah, its sad, but its also human nature – we aren’t going to take the time to do something if the reward is crap. This entire game is like that – high risk/time sink, low reward.
When does the first time explorable path daily credit reset? I believe I finished a Ascalon path 1 run after midnight, so if I did path 1 now, would I only get the normal credit?
MM necros back when there is no limit to minions concurrently alive
OMG, loved this. I remember Krytan Ettin farming for superior runes with MM (I also did it with trap ranger). Good times.
Right Iggy, but there’s been times when the pet was alive, I’d hit that downed skill and pet would hover over my character and do nothing.
I don’t think anymore needs to be said. Pet will come over to res, but half the time it doesn’t work. The quality of this game is getting pretty bad. Broken skills, broken events, terrible loot drop rate. This game was better when it was in beta.
I’d rather have fractals than WvW, seeing that there’s now a pvp daily and monthly achievement.
