I haven’t read the discussion, I don’t really want to spend any more time with this. But my problem is the existence of level gating and unlock quests/requirements. Tiered utility skills, traits since april and this new player experience all are incluced.
Those are just not something I want to ever experience for any reason, and it’s even more jarring when things are changed in the middle of things.
I loved the freedom so much.Okay but most of the things that are gated after the patch were gated already before the patch. People who hate gating so much should have been complaining before the patch, not just after.
Weren’t there multiple complaints regarding this prior the patch?

Looks like GW2 is way down to #12.
Can’t imagine why…
It’s somewhat respectable placement to say the least. These games, most of them were more popular to begin with.
Since I played GW2, I got new content in the form of new episodes of the Living Story.
@Lord Kuru, is there a thread in which it says anything indicating that they won’t ever add dungeons? Because I seriously doubt it.
I am curious, assuming that theoretically you reverted the story back to what it was before, is there any way you (or customer service) could bring certain characters back to a particular Personal story episode?
My other concern is very minor compared to my other complaints, but for Sylvari characters, as early as character generation after fighting the first boss, he used to be naked. Now he is clothed. A little weird considering he is practically a newborn sylvari and wouldn’t be born with clothes.
PLEASE FIX THE PERSONAL STORY
Why remove the “Greatest Fear” storyline?
Why mix up the order when it makes no sense? Also, please change traits back to the way they were.
I don’t think they removed it on purpose, though. My thinking about why they changed the order of chapters is due to certain players (myself included) who complained about the main character not being the main focus on the later parts of the game hence we got the cleansing of Orr FIRST to get Trahearne’s Wyld Hunt out of the way and then for Chapter 8, focus on assaulting the Risen and eventually Zhaitan.
Regardless, I prefer the structure of the story as it was before. It’s far from perfect but the structure is there and I’d rather it stay that way and just improve upon the future Living Story episodes to make up for the Personal Story mishaps.
- Plot holes and story inconsistencies that may have been introduced with story realignment
The best way to fix these plot holes is to put all the personal story chapters back into the game in the correct order. Most players think the that quality of the story is more important than the way it is packaged into bits. Hacking parts out of the story may be convenient for someone but it is not convenient for the players who are trying to follow it. We hope the design team will realize this too.
That is the best option in my opinion. It would take less work to do and I’d be happy about it. Assuming that if the devs want to keep with the current arrangement of the story, I would imagine additions would be necessary to tie them together as seamlessly. I’d rather save them the trouble and just revert those chapters back.
I am happy to know that you guys are looking into this. Thanks so much.
Similar reasons as to why Youtube’s CC system is still in beta, I guess. There are several issues in which I have yet to notice when using LFG
They do their job fine. Least they aren’t like Steam in which they do get back to me asap.
I just want to say: “Thanks so much!”
Here you go, people. A post from Gaile.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Changes-Coming-to-the-NPE/first#post4419233
Hmmm that’s one of them that deserves a pass. I dunno if Golem Chess got removed there or something but if it did, I’d love it back, thank you very much.
Thanks so much for letting us know, Chris. I imagine they got a massive workload and all that judging from the hotfixes I have downloaded each day since the Feature Patch came out, but I’d hope you could help in convincing them to make fixing the Personal Story issues top priority, at least in relation to the missing and bugged quests.
No it’s Glitched..and they haven’t fixed it..been trying to get an answer for when it will be fix..but the trolls in this forum keep telling me to “play without minions”..they are just trolling..and anet hasn’t said anything about fixing it.
Giving someone sound advice is now considered trolling.
“My car doesn’t run, don’t tell me to ride my bike cause I have THIS car! I want to get to work but I refuse to ride this bike! I have this car!”
Yeah……….
Sound advice when not wanted is no advice at all. There are players like myself who love using minions as Necromancers and the last thing I want is someone thinking they are oh so smart and tells me to “use wells”
Yeah, this is definitely a bug due to the issue related to the scaling of minion health based what part of a zone I am in. I find it annoying that they get killed off easily so I best wait for a fix.
Hi Chris!
Any word from Leah and her team regarding the problem I mentioned before?
And it’s good to know that you’ll be well.
(edited by Malkavian.4516)
Sooo… any news yet from that “I’ll get back to you on that on Monday”?
Yeah, he felt sick and didn’t go in and posted in the two active threads he’s on.
What are you guys talking about? Nobody in this thread said they would get back by Monday. The only ANet response in this entire thread is about how progress while doing the Greatest Fear plotline wouldn’t be lost, after patch, it would just be shifted.
Which… seems to actually NOT be the case, but that’s beside the point. Nobody in this thread said they’d “Look into it and get back to [us] Monday”.
Not on this thread but on the “Communicating with you” thread. Chris mentioned that Leah would also look into this and would get back to us with updates regarding this issue. A shame that I haven’t heard a word yet because Chris was feeling unwell at the time though I do hope that he and Leah will diligently look into this and eventually prioritize this issue to be fixed ASAP.
Why are you so intent on proving to me that it is not a bug and is intentional? Again the statement from Jeff stated nothing in regards to removing anything story related from the game.
Because everything points to it being intentional, and if so then ArenaNet needs to know that it was a bad move.
The storyline itself was removed. That’s a pretty kitten massive bug! If it was a bug, you can bet their kitten they would have given a confirmation of such and an ETA on when it’ll show up. They always do for the major bugs. Without exception.
The fact that they haven’t shows that it isn’t a bug. That it is “working as intended.”
The fact that the Studio Director states he will look into it tells me that it is a bug. The fact that the story itself is still in the game files tells me it is a trigger bug. I don’t see what you are seeing that supports a theory that it is not a bug.
That said if it is not a bug they will need to re-do the entire last two chapters to fix the plot holes. I really don’t want them too either. I hate recon.
You mean “retcon” (lol)
The patch notes indicated that there will be modifications related to Chapter 7 and 8 but never specified even on the preview posts related to NPE that certain story bits will be cut off. If anything, I don’t recall any news saying that modifications would be made to the story outside of consolidating them into bigger chapters and the shifting of focus in the last two chapters. Even the official wiki included the Greatest Fear quests, so they’re supposed to be playable on Chapter 7.
I asked Chris about it on the forums and he mentions that he and the rest of the devs are looking into this. From what I can tell, the patch notes were not specific in what modifications were in place, nor did it mention anything about specific quests being removed. I’d assume this is just a major bug that not many people come across as the Personal Story does take a while to go through.
I should also point out that there are some changes done which resulted in another bug in the quest Romke’s Final Voyage. I never did this quest but to my knowledge the quest used outside of a cave in Orr and NOT outside of it. Post patch, it took me to a cave with Romke. his companions and myself without Trahearne (to my knowledge, he’s supposed to appear with me) on top of that, on the first cinematic of the instance, I could not see their lips move, let alone hear them make a single sound.
What I think so far:
Levelgating = I admit I don’t like but I can adjust to this easily compared to others.
Certain Hearts = Taking that one quest in Ashford where I used to pick up a bomb and throw it at others as an example, I am seriously not a fan of removing this. I know that this is a starting zone and the your objective here is to let new players learn all there is to know about the game and all, but I seriously think you are missing an opportunity in giving new players stronger positive first impressions by doing what you did on this patch. I mean, those quests, while tedious compared to dynamic events, were still pretty fun.
For higher level characters = By giving new characters generous amounts of XP for doing quests there, it doesn’t seem to give out any experience for higher level characters (in my case, my level 80 main necromancer). Again, not a fan of this at all and I’d prefer had we gotten XP from in the same fashion as we do on other areas. Doesn’t have to be a generous amount though. Plus, the option to remove the dodge tutorial part for higher level characters would be welcome but leave the icon indicating where I can find the dodge chest would be highly appreciated.
I just wish that it doesn’t have to be just Chris posting here imho. I know there are busy people in the staff, but still it would be nice.
I don’t think Anet is out of touch in terms of not knowing what vocal forum goers want. It would be almost impossible for that to be the case. Is there really anyone here who thinks that Anet doesn’t realize some people want more dungeons? Because if so, there’s not much to talk about on that front.
They simply don’t make all their decisions on what a percentage of the fans want. And if I were in charge, I’m pretty sure I’d act in a similar manner.
I do think Anet tends to overcompensate often, but that doesn’t mean they’re out of touch. It means it’s either not feasible, or profitable to add to the game. Or it’s on a list somewhere and it’s being worked on. Or will be worked on.
I’d like to think that Anet IS listening to the feedback provided either in-game or on the forms. But just because they don’t act on it immediately, that doesn’t mean they aren’t listening to begin with. It’s just that they are prioritizing what they need to do first before moving on to the next issue through assessing how bad certain issues are when compared to others. I’d like to think that the challenge they face is something practically every company that makes MMOs go through.
At first I thought it was bad, but that was me still within my comfort zone. But overtime, I thought it was alright.
Morning All,
I have just woken up and and am feeling decidedly unwell.
I am heading back to bed and will be back online tomorrow.
Chris
Gaming can take it out on you if you played for hours on end. lol
Well, I am doing a bit of WvW while I wait with the tournament and all that. And with the current issues present with the rearrangement of the Personal Story, I am going back to map completion with my main necromancer until it has been fixed.
Hmm. I like “Lion’s Dawn.”
It’s got a nice ring, and harks back to LA as a critical early victory for them.
Lion’s Dawn, huh? Hmmm….
Yeah, I actually like it.
Hello Chris, I was hoping if Leah and the rest of your team were able to look into the issue me and a few others mentioned about related to the Personal Story. Thanks.
Oh, I see what you mean.
To be honest, it took a while for me to get used to how the new way of unlocking skills works. I personally wish for certain skills to have been unlocked at a lower level such as weapon swapping, but either way, it’s not too bad of a change. I can’t say I like it however, but it’s harmless. As for the rewards, I do have to say they aren’t anything massive. It’s not like I’m expecting a legendary to pop up as I could always use some junk for salvage.
Voting in-game can be very intrusive to people who just want to play the game to be honest. It would be ideal to just keep it through this site and just notify players via the bulletin you see on the client.
If anything though, I’d also like to see video demonstrations of what feature patches would have as text previews. So far, they have only given demonstrations to balance changes for professions and the whole new WvW experience footage from PAX which is a good start. All that’s needed now is to exercise consistency with it and present video footage for what future feature patches will have in store to help people be on the right page with the developers and all that.
It probably wasn’t deliberate. Chris mentioned that the team is currently looking into this and would let us know on Monday
Okay, what about if I say, prioritize power over everything else. Ideal runes/sigils to reflect that?
" It would be even better in my opinion to just remove the teleporting thing all together and substitute what with perhaps a wider blast radius."
Helllllll nooooooooooo
You obviously don’t play Minion Master if your reasoning for this is “just run Spectral Walk if you wanna teleport.” Flesh Wurm is near essential as a minion:
-Large damage with Projectile Finisher
-Stun-breaking Teleport and AoE
-Plus any benefits if you spec into MM traitsIt’s only balanced by virtue of being stationary (though it needs a lower cast time).
Like the other guy said, if you just wanna blow stuff up, run Bone Minions, they’re NOT supposed to be straight DPS. Blow them up once they’re close to the enemy.Even better if you’re good enough to watch them and let them get in some hits before they’re hit by AoE to maximize damage.
I do play Minion Mancer, though I just thought Spectral Walk was better has it gives me the movement speed PLUS the teleport.
As far as runes go, I have been using Superior Runes of the Lich. Any runes/sigils you can recommend me?
I have also posted a screenshot showing my current stats and let me know what you think. Thanks.
(edited by Malkavian.4516)
About maxing condition duration, what runes and sigils could I use to maximize it? Superior Runes of the Traveler?
(edited by Malkavian.4516)
I am having a hard time finding a very up-to-date build for Minion Masters. I’d appreciate it if you guys can help me out here. What stat should I prioritize in order to have them deal extra damage and all the other good stuff.
what? remove the telport? no??
that’s exactly the one thing that makes the skill good and one of the few good escape buttons for a necro (and good is just because necro escape buttons have low standards),
if you just want stuff that goes boom run with bone minions.
I haven’t tried out Bone Minions all that much, but they seem a little flimsy compared to the other minions. Personally, I never found use for the Flesh Wurm’s teleport ability as Spectral Walk does it fine for me as it gives me a nice speed boost plus the Wurm’s cooldown just to reuse it seems way too long when compared to Spectral Walk for it to be actually useful, at least for PvP.
Honestly, I like the Flesh Wurm skill for my Necromancer, but the issue I have is the skill that appears after I summon it which is basically teleporting myself to the spot where the Wurm was summoned along with the explosion of poison. It would be even better in my opinion to just remove the teleporting thing all together and substitute what with perhaps a wider blast radius.
The GMs and moderators, no doubt.
Basically killing time until Living Story comes along.
Greetings, Chris
I just tried out the first few missions of Chapter 7, and I must say this: I am wholly unsatisfied with the new pacing the patch gave towards the Personal Story. I would be fine had you just consolidated certain episodes into chapters but still retained their original order. It just feels very messy to deal with to be honest with you and I would appreciate it if you would able to do the community had you can help in convincing the developers in fixing this as soon as possible. In addition to that, I already mentioned on a bug report relating to one other quest called “Romke’s Final Voyage” where I hear no voice coming from the characters in the cinematic NOR did I see any mouths opening when they were supposed to speak.
I beg of you, please help us out here in making sure that this message comes across. I am personally okay with the level gating of skills and the need to do 10 levels before proceeding to the next chapter of the story. But doing the old switcharoo on certain episodes to favor a different approach just doesn’t work unless you guys actually made serious changes to those episodes so that they can be tied together more seamlessly.
That’s all I got for now. Thanks so much.
Hi Malk,
First of all thanks very much for all of your info. We have actually been using your posts to investigate (or rather Leah and her team has).
Secondly and just to be clear in case it isn’t. I am not a customer service rep, I am a developer and thus you are talking directly to the team.
Finally I will have more info for you Monday or perhaps Leah will post. Either way we will be in touch. Thanks for your support and have a great weekend.
Chris
Thank you so much, Chris. And yeah, I am aware that I am speaking to the team directly. I am just voicing out my concerns to you the way I know how.
I would think having a new player experience system would have something of this nature follow.
Unique weapon skins too? Or back pieces?
That could work. The best way to decide whether or not a game is worth buying in it’s current state is through a demo. New players would be able to try it out and judge whether they want to buy the game on their own with less influence coming from their other people. And it’s one good way to test whether or not this new feature patch achieves what the developers have intended.
I vote for more unique backpieces over weapon skins, though. Weapon skins are just overrated. XD
EDIT: now that I think about it, wouldn’t it be cool that you would different rewards depending on how many people you refer? If say you were able to win over 10 friends into buying the game, you’d get generous rewards like gems.
(edited by Malkavian.4516)
That’s probably a glitch there and you may want to report that to customer service directly to give you the laurels.
If they did this because of players complain that will be very stupid thing.
You get praise from the other characters all the time and Trahearne got it like once. If players spend two minutes talking to the NPCs after completing the mission you can see that in their dialogue.
I know, right? Personally, it’s almost as if some of them are just jumping on the Trahearne hate bandwagon without a clear understanding as to why he’s a good character. Granted, he is not a great character in my eyes, but he isn’t terrible by any means.
I appreciate Anet making the NPE in an attempt to make it more easier for new players to understand the rules of the game. But honestly I thought the manner of execution is very flawed when it comes to attracting new blood to the game. If that is the approach they want to go buy, might I suggest implementing a referral system for existing players.
By referral system, I mean something similar to how Blizzard’s Recruit A Friend system works in World of Warcraft. How I would go about it would be something like this:
1. Veteran player give friend a game code
2. Friend redeems game code on the website and downloads the client
3. The game code would be good for say a certain number of days basically just enough to give new players a taste of what GW2 has to offer before buying the game.
4. Veterans would be generously rewarded with how his friend progresses and perhaps if his friend purchases the game in the form of boosters, minis, etc.
The risks for this approach (from what I can think of, anyway) though would be the potential for new players to not buy the game in a same way that people are just going to play a demo but never buy the game for reasons x, y and z.
I’d appreciate it if you guys would take this into consideration for future updates.
Despite my love of GW2 even after post-patch, I feel like they screwed up on part of it that prevents me from loving the game as much as I did when I first picked it up, in this case the Personal Story. But then again, I would attribute that to major, difficult to reach bugs.
The thing is, the entire cinematic is muted. :/
I honestly doubt they would give a a timeframe on when your concern will be addressed. Although I have noticed bug fixes happening daily since the feature patch was installed so I think they would get to it eventually. But don’t take my word for it.
Looking back at it though, I think I can see where they are going with this change. From what I have played so far, chapter 7 quests seem as if the Commander, Trahearne and a select few Pact soldiers are getting their feet wet in the Cursed Shore area as part of the cleansing of Orr and once it has been accomplished, the rest of the Pact can now jump in to invade Orr as it would, in theory minimize casualties.
I feel like retracting my earlier statement because of this, but I can’t because the problem lies with how the quests are presented as a result of this change, which I would think can be hotfixed through a patch or two. When I started “Gates of Corruption” I was practically teleported to that location and back as opposed to giving me the idea that I came from an airship that is supposed to take me there to begin with. Perhaps if the devs added in an airship asset to that existing instance, be it on the ground or in mid-air, it should tie things up really nicely.
For the second and last quest I tried but did not finish due to a technical bug that broke immersion for me, Romke’s Final Voyage, I was practically teleported into a cave where Romke is present. For that, I’d like you guys to take a look at this video I found on Youtube
It shows here that the quest is supposed to start outside of the cave where I speak to Romke’s spirit, and then he’ll point me to where I need to go. Why the heck did I begin this quest inside a cave already? Am I in an airship or am I in a floating Asura gate that’s shaped like an airship?
Bottom line is this, if you are going to adjust the story, at least make the major revisions (by that I mean additions in game assets) necessary to make it seem just as sensible story-wise rather than lazily switching out episodes in a different order like books in a shelf.
