They could probably learn from design mishap of Arah and perhaps integrate it into an expansion in a few years, I would say.
I do see your point on that.
This idea sprung by me as I play my double dagger Elementalist class and I’ve been thinking if we could have a skin that practically turns weapons invisible. That way it would seem that casters are using their hands to cast spells as opposed to weapons.
You will never see player-usable airships. Deal with it.
Once again, go back to WoW if you want “mounts”.
Way to bash what could be possible improvements for the game, man. If you got a reason why it shouldn’t be added, you better got a good reason outside of “deal with it”.
I want…..QUAGGANS!!!!!!
…ugh, that awkward moment when the only questions you have are things that probably won’t be answered or on-topic: Whether Hobosacks (Engineer Kit backpacks) will ever not override back item visuals, and if that every-class-every-weapon thing is still in the works.
Anyway, it’s really cool that this communication thing is happening. I mean it! I know text can be difficult to ‘tone,’ but communication – actual communication like this has been – is always appreciated. Especially since it can be so difficult, whatever the reason.
I know it’s great. While certain details would be discussed off this thread, at the very least this is a good start. I understand by saying their response, other people will take it the wrong way unintentionally or otherwise.
What are we working on right now? Feature Pack 2 (in ~two more weeks), Season 2 of the Living World (coming back this fall), the WvW Fall Tournament, and the World Tournament Series PvP global tournament are just some of the things we are currently working on that we can tell you about right now.
After the end of the tournaments, the game will be the same since it was released!
Players really want:
- New Dungeons/Fractals
- New Dungeon/Fractal Rewards
- PvP modes/maps
- Guild Halls (GvG)
- New Legendaries
- New Weapon and Armor skins (No RNG)
- Precursor Crafting
Please, stop tournaments and living story, We want more permanent content!
We’ve spent years asking and you don’t listen us!Thanks for reading and responding.
Word of advice, just because you are saying you want these improved, doesn’t mean they will work on it immediately. They are already releasing the feature patch next month. So just wait for the next feature patch to come by.
The Crystal Desert would be a good start. I know it’s a very hazardous place, but it’s a good start.
Assuming you were in charge for this game, and you mentioned these problems, what would you do to address these? While these complaints of yours have justification and you are entitled to your opinion, it would have even more meaning if you write down exactly how these issues can be improved upon. Because if you are just going to mention problems without a probable solution, it would limit what the devs can work with.
I would imagine at least for a month, Lion’s Arch would be cluttered with different colored tags.
Looking back at them, they overshadow posts that are areas for improvement for the game, which makes me think that they are just hindering the game itself. But then again, I should know by now that the forum users represent a small, yet vocal fraction of the gamerbase.
Air ships as guild halls would rock! Even something as simple as a travel mechanism like the Zepplins in WoW would be awesome!
As a travel mechanism, I’d say we got Waypoints for that, but then again, I think I mentioned that if people want to see Tyria from a way up high, that would be an option, though they’d have to move reaaaallly slow.
Another awesome idea that will go completely ignored…….
It doesn’t have to be, I would say. As long as people keep talking about it, it will garner attention.
Well, design wise, I am thinking of the ships in Guns of Icarus only on much larger scales to accomodate a full guild.
True, but surely there are instances when the whining goes too far, right?
My thoughts on it is this: criticism is good as it shows how much you love the game to the point where you want to see it better than what it already is. But at the same time, whining about things not going your way is the wrong way of asking someone to improve upon something especially if you are not being too specific about why you are whining in the first place as you are giving little for the developers to work with. Don’t expect Anet to fix something just because you said: “kitten U 4 NERFING FGS. FIX THIS PLOX!”.
If you got a criticism that you posted on this forum, do not expect that it will happen in a short time as there are so many posters on an hourly basis that the community team would probably only acquire a small fraction of the feedback in a day, maybe more if they got the extra diligence. In the case of SAB, it’s not gonna be gone. SAB is a kitten popular feature. It will be back. When? I don’t know. But it WILL come back eventually.
Overall, I know this game has issues (since when has there been a perfect MMO?) and Anet is definitely improving upon it for all of you guys. Criticize to your hearts content but know the difference between constructive criticism and just outright whining.
EDIT: Just want to add that I am seeing more whining posts than I see more detailed criticism.
(edited by Malkavian.4516)
Agreed. All of their focuses and big selling points at launch have been abandoned for the living story.
Ehm .. what big selling points ? The biggest selling point has always been the open world
with dynamic events .. and never dungeons and especially not fractals.
And of course no raids / geargrind ..Euhm, a game like gw2 needs some kind of gear grind to keep players busy. I agree with the OP, the game has been focusing on the living world so much, that they abandoned everything else. I still know we had some kind of event every month/2 months, which could keep me busy. They dropped that, and gave us 1-2 days of content from the LS…
What is there to do at endgame? After 2 years of playing, people get bored of doing the same dungeons/fractals, without any goal to go for. If u dont like legendary’s, what else can u get??
We need more dungeons/fractals/skins/goals with rewards, and before anyone says we have enough skins in the game, for a game based on appearence, there really aint many endgame skins. I still login once in a while, only to see nothing changed, which is sad since gw2 has so much potential
Needs some kind of gear grind? There’s the Mawdrey for one.
As for what is there to do during endgame? I know 2 years worth of playtime can eventually bore someone out. What I do is make my own fun and just take my sweet-kitten time on what I do. If I get bored with PvE? I just do a couple of PvP with random strangers and hope that I win. If I get bored with that, I do WvW. If I get bored with THAT, I go back to PvE and maybe do something else like RPing with someone in a hometown.
While yes, this game does need dungeons and fractals, I am sure they will eventually add them (by their answer, that would mean no dungeon meant for Mordremoth, I think). I am willing to wait as long as it takes for that to happen.
I know, right? I think such a feature is possible to integrate in a WvW environment. I’d imagine the challenge of pulling it off would be a complete revamping of the existing maps or making new maps dedicated to this mechanic. I would imagine that unless you are playing with fellow guildies, flying an airship is gonna be a might tougher, especially when all we would have going for to communicate is just text chat.
I think the fact that they are that expensive means they’ll never be pay to win. They’re a convenience item for people who want to support the game. They’re not supposed to be “worth it”.
yes but only when you look at this
characterslots 800gems (the normal price)
bag slot 400 gems
bank tab 600 gemsthis things alone are way to expensive for an normal/new player when wanna buy it for gold so gw2 is not far from PAYtoWIN anymore
its 3 bagslots 200g – seriously?
only 2 banktabs 200g – rly?
characterslot 130gno – new player can not pay this and they dont even would have all bags or bankslots with this
so yes – gw2 is PAYtoWIN allraedy
When I first played this game, I practically didn’t pay a dime until I maxed out my first character. I don’t think it’s more of a Pay to Win but rather Pay for Convenience as it should.
Anyways, I do agree that there are some gem items that are more expensive than others like the unlimited harvest tools. Either way, all the more reason why I just save up my gems because I still haven’t seen anything on the store that tickles my fancy since the Kasmeer staff skin and the mini Scruffy.
If it were to act like a grander scale version of a home instance in which case you can only go to a particular guild hall based on the guild you represent, that should work just fine. Downside of that is: would the stand down feature be disabled if that was the case?
I may also like to point out that this could also make for a pseudo guild hall for everyone to interact with each other and stuff.
I don’t exactly know what disability you have so I can’t say for sure this is going to be something you could try. I think you could play almost any class if you can afford the appropriate gaming gear for it. Gaming mice like the Naga can just be where you put the macros on and just prioritize your left hand on character movement and switching of weapons and stuff.
Hello Anet guys,
I don’t expect you guys to make this happen ASAP, but I hope that you will put this up for consideration for a new update OR an expansion.
We have established that Tyria has airships. Hell, in Edge of the Mists we got one in a sense. But I think it would be very fantastic to have in GW2, ideally in a WvW environment and if you could pull it off, perhaps in a PvE setting where it would naturally cost significant influence points in addition to gold just to buy the materials you need to construct an airship and we can use said ships in taking out sky pirates, new world bosses who fly or opposing servers in massive dreadnoughts where you would have to take them out a la Guns of Icarus, encourage certain players to man the guns, navigate the ship and ensure regular maintenance of the engines.
These suggestions are still rough around the edges and it may not be very specific, but I hope you can take this idea and perhaps work around with it for future content as I think this would bring more possibilities of fun in Tyria.
I suppose if you were a human there should be some cultural clothing you can use to make it fit.
You need to be more specific than that if you want your concern to be taken seriously. Condi needs nerf? Condi what exactly? Condition damage? Why do you want it nerfed? How is it spammed?
I’d like to say that they want to prioritize the Living Story content first. Considering the issues we have had in Dragon’s Reach episode 1, perhaps they want to iron out the other content pieces to minimize issues like that in the future. Also, I’d guess they’d improve upon the other episodes based on feedback from the other eps. I don’t think it’s an issue of if they want to bring back SAB or not, it’s more to do with the right time to bring it back.
Mr. O’Brien. Considering this is my first MMO that I have ever played avidly, I just like to say thanks for at least keeping us in touch, though some people say that it hasn’t been as much as before but I appreciate it all the same. I’d appreciate it if you guys do this more often than your standards to make sure that a lot, if not all players don’t feel too left out or as other forums posters say, leave much for speculation and guessing. As mentioned by dlonie, a good start is to have a particular community manager assigned to a subforum to oversee the feedback the players have generated.
From the looks of it all, I will admit that what you have done is not perfect. There is criticism everywhere and I don’t need to tell you that criticism is healthy in an MMO as it gives you plenty to work with and makes the game experience all the more dynamic that way.
Thanks again.
If they didn’t charge extra for the colors, and just increased the price, everyone would buy it now for 100 gold, get all the colors after the patch, and the price increase would be rendered pointless. I know you guys say that you need colors to coordinate, but you seem to be doing okay now. Why are colors essential? I get that they’re nice to have, but essential?
Potential coordination tactics, I would expect. I can imagine this happening: Blue Dorito assaults the keep, Yellow and Green Doritos could distract the enemy on these two sides to prevent them from catching up to us.
The fact is that many Commander Tags are simply vanity items, used by players with a sense of self-importance but no real clue. And the – forced – awareness that some Blue Dorito is bumbling away on his own inconsequential business, is an irritation and a distraction.
If someone posted ‘I have 100g, I have 100g’ over and over again in Map Chat, he would obviously be Blocked if not Reported. So why not have the same discretionary blocking mechanism for the Map?
You must admit that Commander tags do have their uses, be it for champion hunting, or when zerging through WvW. Still, from my experience, there has only been 2-3 doritos present in an area and unless that number has increased to say 10 or 20, then yeah, that would be very viable.
I know, right? Colors? Distinguishable, serves it’s purpose, but still going to be boring to see after some time. Least there is more identity to the commander. Ideal shapes for this?
1. Diamond
2. Hearts
3. Clubs
4. Spades
5. Pear
I am a sucker for flavor text, so yeah, a bestiary would be nice.
It would be nice, but how would you like it to work? Keeping track of what particular monsters you’ve killed would be bad, as that’s more information than they’re willing to add to each character (see: Ranger pet names being forgotten).
If it worked off of the Slayer achievements, then it would unlock for all of your characters at the same time. I’m not sure if that’s something you’d want though.
Is there a good way to make it work for each character, without adding a lot of data to each of them?
I’d like to say: if you kill 20 of a particular monster, it’s there that the bestiary will give elaborate information about the monster. Putting it like that, yeah I suppose tying it in to a slayer achievement would be the best thing to give it.
I like the idea of different colored tags, but I think it would be even better to give in different shapes that isn’t resembling a dorito. I for some like diamond shaped tags.
Just face the facts. This game ain’t doing well,
I’m tired of the problems.
I’ll give it until the new WoW expansion is released. In sure it’s not the developers fault and may be that they are restricted and controlled by managers or ncsoft.
So why should I suffer with them when I could play a game that’s thriving ?
Eh, do what you like, man. As for the game not doing well, I beg to differ. So far, it’s doing okay. Nothing spectacular but it’s got the things I wanted in an MMO that other MMOs have failed to give me and I am okay with that.
I am a sucker for flavor text, so yeah, a bestiary would be nice.
That’s what I seriously disliked about that instance. You screwed up once, you can just do it again.
Sooo basically you’re saying that we as a community of customers should be ashamed for making a group of developers feel bad because a major aspect of the game was not only not like what they said it would be but it took a very long time for them to change it?
Is that basically the premise? Because if so then you’re missing the point of the honest business relationship and the company/customer relationship. Basically, business 101, don’t lie to your customer base. If you are honest (and yes it can be done we’ve seen it) then you’ll have no backlash. If it wasn’t a lie then apologize and offer something because of the time you wasted, if it wasn’t something you were authorized to say, don’t say it. It’s really not that difficult.
The other problem I’m seeing other than the blind adoration thing is that instead of coming out and apologizing for things like this they get people like the OP to fight their battles for them.
I suppose he would tell us that if we bought a lemon car (and no I don’t mean the color) that required not only the cost of gas to run but also the purchase of currency through conversion every month to maintain on top of the repair bills, that was a total drag to drive because of all of the loud noises and smoke, that we should feel bad for the seller of the car because we shouldn’t complain about the products we purchased. That’s essentially what I just read.
Here’s the thing, if the devs communicate all the details to the fanbase, no matter what there would always be outrage from either the majority or a very vocal minority which could lead them to give in to peer pressure and do what they say. It’s one thing to give what the players ask for but if it ruins the vision behind the game, then that’s another story. The more logical thing to do is to keep the fanbase up to date but at the same not revealing to them the specifics.
Here’s what I can gather about what the patch will hold which I think is pretty beneficial.
Different commander tags. If I recall, these tags will each cost an amount of gold. But the benefit of it is that with easily distinguishable tags, there would be more effective coordination as opposed to just having a single commander lead the zerg. Blue and Red Dorito can storm one area, Yellow Dorito can defend specific areas from enemy attack.
As for the balance issues, the fact that this was written out like this is good as I don’t watch the GW2 videos discussing them if there was any. So I got a fair idea about what to expect.
And like I mentioned before, you shouldn’t count your chickens before they are hatched as there are still other features to come in this pack and from the way you worded it out, it’s as if you want the game to remain stagnant.
I am all for people speaking their minds, as long as they know full well what they are talking about.
Well there no real accountability for being like this so why not say every thing is “bad” before its out you never get told “i told you so” nor will you ever see them post “i was wrong.”
With this being the internet and all, taking accountability for ill actions is almost non-existent.
The best thing to do right now is to not expect anything. Because with such lofty expectations, comes great disappointment or even anger.
I am all for people speaking their minds, as long as they know full well what they are talking about.
I am being really disapointed for this """"""""Feature"""""""" """"Pack""""
Big Changes to WvW system? a new siege mastery and another trap that’s “controversial”. Plus commander colors (wow yay, they just had to change the icon…) What about all that has been discussed in CDI? I know that thing is not official, but making a """""Feature""""" Pack for changing the tag color feels way too weak for me.
Balancing: Was that post even serious? What did you say that we didn’t knew before? do you really need 24 HOURS to write a post saying what are the current “OPneses” and “UPneses” of each class in 1 paragraph per class?
What about getting into the matter and saying what will EXACTLY change? No “we will improve this class mobility while mantaining it’s damage output” bullkitten.Seriously. How can you call this a feature pack? For me it looks only like a regular patch, but instead of releasing 2 patches in 2 weeks, just one big patch in 4 weeks. Great.
Seriously, I’m getting really kittened off with this patch. It’d be way better if it weren’t any of this patch at all. This game is awesome, but the way you’re managing this patch kills me.
Why do you need 3 weeks (i repeat 3 WEEKS) to make blog posts that you can write with what? at most 2-3 hours each? SERIOUSLY. You build so much expectation and every post so far (but one, the PvP) was a big big big (x100) disapointment. I don’t think this is the best way to generate Hype.
Don’t count your chickens before they are hatched, son. This is just an idea of what to expect. The patch notes will give out more specifics to the changes. Besides, what you were complaining about is not what the entire feature pack holds.

Wait SAB isn’t coming back ever??
I never got to play during SAB or the Back to School event!
That was the one thing (outside the LS) that I was extremely excited to finally play someday. On top of the skins, I just wanted to experience it…
PLEASE bring SAB back Anet. Here’s a quote from the interview. You decide for yourself.
“…as to whether or not we come back to it [SAB], whether or not in some other form, you know, I can’t really say, I don’t know how likely that is and that is really all I can say about it.”
I don’t know how likely it is that we’ll come back to SAB. That sounds pretty definitive to me.
He doesn’t know how likely it is…maybe because it’s not his decision or department. It doesn’t mean they will or they won’t. My guess is it’ll come back between seasons though.
I can say with full confidence that Anet will definitely bring back SAB. They’d be fools to not capitalize on the popularity SAB brings to the table. But at the same time, they want to focus on what they have on their plate right now before switching over to the next plate or else: there would be chaos.
In all the others games I’ve played. This game has the worst dev to player relationship.
The forums feel like we are talking to a brick wall.
If I was asked to review this game on those areas I’d give it such a low score they would think I was trying to sabotage the game… When in fact I love the gameplay
But hate the non existing communication
Non-existant communication, you say? Could you name me one MMORPG that’s fully released in which a developer responded or remedied immediately or shortly after receiving a huge wad of complaints on the forums?
EDIT: Sometimes I think this post reminds me of this particular video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBddZ1uwtsk
(edited by Malkavian.4516)
I know a lot of die hards complain about criticism on the forums, and I’ve even had a couple threads deleted by Anet.
What they don’t realize is that constant complaints about the game actually mean that people are still interested in it.
I would be highly worried when all the critical threads stop – that means that people have given up any hope that the game will improve, and have moved on to another game.
Nothing wrong with criticism as long as it’s not written in a manner where it feels like the OP is either trolling, or just being outright toxic.
I would actually love that mechanic personally. Basically like how a necromancer uses a minion’s skills, pressing the skill again would activate his shield. I say this because it’s really boring to stick to elementals or the greatsword for an elite. I don’t mind using an FGS for PvP.
It’s more like Ace Attorney Investigations to be more specific. I always wanted to be Miles Edgeworth.
I am sure by making this suggestion, I suppose it’s fair to give every racial skill extra boosts as well. But anyway, I picked an Asuran Elementalist because I really like the concept of using golems with them for PvE. However, I regret spending my points on the golems due to how unreliable they are in combat. The D-Series Golem for example doesn’t seem to last really long the moment it is summoned and it takes 3 minutes for it to come back again, which makes selecting what could have been what makes playable Asura stand out in PvE pointless. My ideal improvements would be this:
1. If you don’t want to buff the golem, at least give it a shorter cooldown than 3 minutes. I’d be alright by cutting down the 60 seconds of it to be honest making it just 2 minutes at the most.
2. For a defensive golem, he doesn’t do much being defensive outside of turtling himself and conjuring a barrier. Might I suggest adding a skill making him the bait for mobs to be focused on him instead of me in addition to the barrier.
That’s all I got to say for now. I may have more feedback to give later on.
Players are the greatest force of stagnation in our games. We DON’T want new. We DON’T want different. Just give us more of the same. We kinda… WANT to be bored, because it means that we aren’t getting pushed out of our comfort zone with what we know we like.
I think another issue is that when it comes to MMOs, gamers want change, but they are not entirely sure if this is what they want, hence you would see more posts on MMO forums that would demand vaguely of what they want whether it be related to balance or something new they want to add. Because of this, a game will change based on what feedback they can get from a community, just not the kind of change that they had in mind. In the end, if a gamer is playing this game for more than several hours a day, they’ll always get tired of it.
