Huh, didn’t know about that. Either way, funzies.
Save for Flame Legion, do warbands have to be made of charr under the same legion? Or is it possible to have charr of different legions be a part of a single warband?
Did any of you ever make two characters that of the same class. If so, why? I’m just curious, is all.
I was having trouble picking the right spot to post this. But if a moderator sees this, I hope it’ll be moved to a different forum
To an extent, I agree with you. That episode was a perfect opportunity to explore the secret Caithe was so desperately trying to keep. So far, what we got is but a glimpse in that she attacked centaurs alongside Faolain in an attempt to bring Wynne back but not much else until perhaps the next episode. If they are going to make players wait til January to finally know what her secret was, then it better be something really REALLY juicy. But I have a feeling that many lore nuts (including me) may have already guessed what it may be.
Well, Grenth’s Hood is an “available for a limited time” item. That just leaves the other armor pieces.
As for me, what I do like to see as a gem store item are:
1. Death-themed light armor sets
2. A musical instrument in the form of a boombox where players can play a key for a wub.
3. Achievement point boosters where if consumed, you can receive double the achievement points you’d normally receive.
4. An charr themed harvesting tool much like the job o tron golems except you can summon an Ash Legion charr to chop trees, mine, and pick out crops for you while they say something silly like: “Why am I doing this?” or “Chopping wood? Really?” Or “I’m a legionnaire! Not your servant!”
Outside of your character’s experience throughout the Personal Story, what is your character’s backstory? Feel free to let your imagination run wild.
I’ll start with my character
Name: Trestkon Madklaw
Rank: Centurion
Legion: Ash Legion
Affiliation: The Vigil
Profession: Ranger and Sniper
Story:
Trestkon once served the Blood Legion as a warrior who excels the use of the longbow and the greatsword until one day he was held captive by Flame Legion. For some time, he was interrogated by the legionnaires for any information related to his Legion but Trestkon did not once tell them anything. One would think they would kill him for not cooperating but a nameless Flame Legion shaman had something else in mind for him. He used some unknown mesmer magic (unknown to him at least) that caused Trestkon to experience hellish illusions that would torment him on a psychological level and he has not lifted it once since the curse was cast. After two years since his torture, he saw blurry shadows removing his chains and shackles removed and immediately, he let out a bloodcurdling roar and pounced and thrashed on the shadows. As he thrashed, more shadows appeared and he attacked them head on like an animal. As soon as his sight grew clear, he saw the traces of blood, gore and corpses of the victims he has slain. But what horrified him is that while most of the victims are Flame Legion (including the shaman who casted the curse on him), he also noticed the corpses of his warband all mangled up. He attempted to escape only to be knocked out and restrained by Iron Legion soldiers.
Sometime after his restraint, Trestkon was taken to trial to answer for his actions in which he told his case to the Tribunes about what happened to him during his capture. After some discussion, the High Tribunes informed him that even though this wasn’t intentional in any way, Trestkon’s madness is still present as a result of the curse and because there is no present way to lift it even with the caster’s demise and because of that, he is now a liability to the Legions and thus, is considering sentencing him to life imprisonment so that he will not endanger anyone. Crying out in desperation, and on his knees, Trestkon begged the Legions to reconsider. He said, “I know there is no way my madness will be cured right now. But I know there is a way and I seek to find it. And I need you, the High Legions. to help me in lifting it by letting me fight!”
After that plea, there was silence until Tribune Torga Desertgrave spoke and suggested that Trestkon be transferred over to the Ash Legion where he can be trained from the ground up and supervised in case his fits of madness come by to hinder his warband in any way possible. Shortly after, the other two Tribunes agreed to this and the transfer was made. Since then, Trestkon learned the ways of the Ash Legion in that he was taught the concept of patience, self-discipline, and silence. He also integrated that into his combat training by emphasizing carefully planned attacks as opposed to just charging in. He was also given animal companions to be with because it was said that it helps relieve stress. After a couple of years in training, he has managed to keep his madness in check to an extent. He adopted the surname “Madklaw” as a reminder of what he is until he can finally find a way to end his madness for good.
Since his tenure in Ash, his role has changed from a frontline infantryman to a sniper but would not hesitate to switch to his second favorite weapon, a greatsword whenever he feels the need to face enemies in hand to hand combat. While mostly reserved and quiet, he would have tendencies of rage-induced madness which can easily be indicated when his eyes glow red whenever he would face multiple Flame Legionnaires. He wears Flamewalker attire to serve as a sort-of reminder of his hatred towards the Flame for doing this to him.
I know, I know. I’m a little early saying this when Xmas is only like 11 days away, but I’m always a very early kind of guy.
Anyway, I just want to say Happy Holidays to Arenanet and the GW2 players.
I haven’t seen Peneloopee & Bloomkittenince the attack on the Grove. Are they ok? How are they doing?
Looking forward to the 2015 Spring Quaggan Festival following the marriage of Peneloopee & Bloomanoo.
A week of underwater Quaggan races, Largos jousting, seashell & bauble collecting, and CoooOOOooo’ing!

Somewhere out there, those two are bring dismay to a nearby settlement and they never know that it was them….
For me, well:
1. More variety in WvW maps outside of EB, and the Borderlands
2. New mechanics to give WvW even more flavor like new siege weapons
3. More legendaries for the other weapon types
4. Guild Halls
I hope you all don’t mind, but I just have to say that this game has been the best mmo experience I’ve had since the first day I logged into Everquest 2 and WoW. Now, I am not here to promote those games, but out of all the mmos I have played, few have given me that sense of epicness like GW2 does. I am a new player and I am currently playing as a Norn warrior. I am about level 13 right now.
Frankly, and I think we can all agree on this, there are a lot of crap mmos out there. Thankfully, GW2 is not one of them. I just want to say bravo to the devs for putting together such an amazing mmo experience. Most mmos grab me for about an hour before I get tired of playing. This game, with the story arc, I was riveted for several hours as I worked to finish the story quest today.
What a fun game you have here.
I have had this game for half a year now and while there have been changes that have made me raise an eyebrow multiple times, I still have a bit of fun with it.
Paying money to play content you’ve already played sets an uncomfortable precedent for me.
Where does that slippery slope end? Do we start paying to redo dungeons too?
I would like to replay personal story episodes, but I’d dislike seeing them in the cash shop.
Well, I picture it like this: the cost wouldn’t have to be steep. Like 25 gems or something. The benefit to that imo would be that it would save players the trouble of having to make another character from scratch just to play a different story. Assuming they make the story instances harder than before to compliment your level, THEN I think it wouldn’t be right to charge.
This shouldn’t be a gem store item, IMO, but yes it’d be nice to be able to replay the PS. I’m not sure how it would work though what with the character creation choices that affect the PS and whatnot, unless they leave that as unchangeable but still allowing you to restart. Also wondering if they’d let you start in the beginning instance when you first create a character as it’s part of the PS. Maybe that’s what they are working on when they said it’d take “a lot of resources” to fix the stuff that the restructured PS from the last feature patch broke.
Would be cool if they make some new “hard mode” achievements like with the story journal and rolled this out along with the season 1 LS story journal. At least I wish they’d do this.
Having hard mode achievements, eh? If that’s the case, then I suppose it’d be fine if it weren’t made up for purchase
I personally think there needs to be a way to replay the Personal Story for those who just like to try out the instances they haven’t chosen. Think of it this way: the item would come in the form of an hourglass and once that is activated, the player will have access to the screen where he can select his story choices, and be transported to his starting area except this time, since that character is already level 80, the grinding to 10 levels will not apply and he can just get on with the story if he wants to.
Just something to consider in the future, Anet.
As much as I want to know what lies beyond that gate, I suppose I can wait a few weeks.
After seeing the recent episode of the Living Story, it does seem that way, at least with Caithe considering how different she looks like when we access her past memories.
This is something I noticed when I play medium armor classes as a sylvari. When I wear the Bloody Prince outfit, the one-handed weapons I holster just float to the sides, and they are slightly distant from their waists. I also notice the same thing when they wear other medium armor sets.
It’s been very difficult finding a proper name for a Sylvari with so many Celtic names already taken. So I settled to find some Irish Gaelic words and I picked Nealtru which, according to Google Translate, means “dementia”
The gift of exploration is a part of making the legendary. Once the legendary is made, only then can you be able to make a profit.
Pfft. Bookahs. What do they know about their future lords and masters?
Oh and it’s instances like this that I form my own parties in dungeons instead of joining one.
Stupid 45 character limit in titles; If you were a writer in the LS2 story, would you push for Caithe to be tried and/or punished for what’s happened?
Both for stealing the egg and for her part in Faolain’s crimes that there is now a prominent, highly respected witness to?
I’ll have to look into all the facts first otherwise my judgement would be premature. So far, we have only seen two-thirds of the whole story and I’ll get back to this thread once I have considered all the information. I can say this much, it’s leaning against her favor.
Now I have played a second character and it was there I experienced the out of whack order that the current Personal Story has to offer since the feature patch. Now assuming that Arenanet finally found a solution to the problem, there is still the matter
of players who have experienced this the chance to replay the story. And from what I am told by customer service when I inquired about rewinding a character’s story progress, they can’t do it.
A probable workaround for this system in my opinion would be to have a player send in a support ticket, and Anet can provide a faster means of getting said players to level 80 (or at least level 60). That way, they can start fresh with a brand new character to have that character replay the story the way it was meant to be. The only issue I can think of is the matter of gear that the current character would be having as most of the gear is soulbound, meaning that gold will need to spent just to get the exact items again. Plus there is the matter of other players that may abuse this system to spare them the grinding.
To Arenanet, I know you guys are working your tails off with finding a remedy to the Personal Story, along with other tasks like PvP and whatnot. Still, I hope you can integrate the solution I have provided, or come up with something similar once you have found a way to fix this problem.
For me the camera issues are very present when I play big characters like a charr or a norn, especially when doing jumping puzzles. For humans, sylvari and asura, the camera problem is not as noticeable.
Same here. I haven’t received a replacement golem bank.
ANet has never really done well with pet classes, the closest was probably the GW1 Necromancer minions but that was more in the mechanics of the Profession than actual Pet AI.
I think perma-Stow should be an option, one that would give the Ranger a “buff” of some type to offset going pet-less.
I dunno. If I were Anet that would be all the more reason not to implement pet-less rangers. Rangers would no different than Warriors outside of their skills sets. If it was a minor nerf for pet-less rangers, at least for open-world PvE and dungeons, I think it would be alright. I know I’d be okay with that myself. But if Anet is adamant about not having pet-less rangers, I’ll respect that. Still I am hopeful that they will reconsider it.
-hardly any new content
-too slow to solve issues
-buggy
etc
Its obvious they cant afford a quality game with the current direction.
And what’s to say that changing to subscription will actually improve the game at all? I mean, there have been several sub games that isn’t WoW or EvE that have made the switch to free to play because they do not have enough subscribers to keep the game alive. While GW2 has a reasonably high playerbase, I think what got them (and myself) into the game to begin with was the promise of no monthly subscription. Changing that to sub is just going spell “betrayal”.
The exception to that though would be if Anet adapted how Sony did it with the early Playstation Plus in that you pay a timely fee and that you get bonuses like free games. I can imagine Anet could do something like that in that they can reward players with a random gem store item bundle or something or a generous discount in gem store items. It would still put several people off, but I think that’s a better alternative.

This is something I recently noticed and I submitted a bug report as well. When I go to the new fractal area and play the cinematic for funzies, I notice that Dessa’s voice does not play along with the video despite there being subtitles present.
I love playing my ranger and while I do like the fact that I can stow my pet when I am not in combat, I think that an option to stow them permanently would be ideal in that even if I attack or get attacked, the pet would not appear unless I said so.
My idea on how that can be done would be to say click the stow button a second time after the pet is stowed so that it will stay stowed regardless of you entering combat.
Now you are just being racist. :P
I’d just be happy incinerating the hopping monkeys.
Indeed. I am a bit lazy in switching gear. That much switching can get annoying overtime.
I do not want to party up to complete a personal story. I do not want to play as a thief.
It is rare enough that new content is created – and I really enjoy seeing the story unfold, but this is just frustrating and annoying. If I want to play as a thief I will switch to the character I created and took to level 80 and play a thief. I do not enjoy the play style of thieves, and I never will. Give me the option when I enter the mission to CHOOSE whether I want to play as the main character or as a companion with my own class.
Let’s consider this. Out of all the quests you have since you have played this game, how many instances have there been where you play a different character? Very few, to be honest. In fact 95 percent of the time, you play your character. While I may agree that playing a character that differs from my playstyle can put others off, consider that an opportunity for you to at least expand your horizons a bit.
It took me 3 tries to beat him. I usually go for the spinning attack as I thought it gave me the best results and use the other skills to buffer it up.
Some people say yes but I say: not really. In addition to new story quests, I at least am given something new to do every 2 weeks as opposed to waiting months before anything good comes around to be finished in a heartbeat.
My only problem is that Anet needs to work on providing an opportunity to get players accustomed to Caithe’s skills. Perhaps a sparring session with Faolain might help as a mini-tutorial of sorts? Don’t get me wrong. learning on your own is fine, but the second instance just seems like the inappropriate time for that. :/
(edited by Malkavian.4516)
Throughout the course of the season, we have played our characters. I thought this was a good change of pace taking control of a different character for once.
(edited by Malkavian.4516)
Now the question is, I wonder how viable is it in WvW?
A Griffon pet for Rangers? OH HELL YES PLEASE!
She is of Destiny’s Edge after all. Having her OP is practically standard. :P
Considering how many updates have been all about your character, controlling a different character is something neat to say. Still, if you get to know how Caithe works in the game, from my experience, it makes me want to roll an actual thief and complain to Anet that I want her skills. XD
I still need to find that jumping puzzle. And like always, I prefer not to rely on a portal from Mesmers to get the chest there.
For those complaining that I wasn’t specific enough with my opinions, let me clarify.
My guesstimate is that we’re coming up to 3/4 of the way through Season 2 and there are still flaws in the way ArenaNet are telling the story. My two main griping points are:
- Rytlock’s fate: this has been one of the most exciting parts of the entire living story (yes, I include all of Season 1 here). Why haven’t we had any follow-up? Did the incantation even work? Is Rytlock even alive?
- Spoiler Alert Memory Seeds: we were given four yet were only allowed to access 3 of the 4 associated memories? Why bother giving us four? To purposefully leave a completely unnecessary cliffhanger?
These points could’ve been addressed with longer, more in-depth episodes. Sure, Rytlock’s ark might take quite a bit more but the 4th memory could’ve easily been put into this release.
To conclude, I feel ArenaNet are needlessly shortening episodes to stretch out the story as much as possible, which is slowly starting to spoil things for me.
1. About Rytlock, the trailer didn’t mention him at all so he wasn’t the main focus in this update. We only thing we got is pictures/screenshots of him under the title “Point of No Return” so we can assume he’ll appear at around season finale, I guess.
2. Okay, I agree with you there. The story started out strong for me but a cliffhanger like that felt like I crashed at a brick wall. But then again, the objective of the cliffhanger is that it leaves the audience wanting to see more of it. And I honestly did want more. I just wish the next update wouldn’t focus too much on the final seed.
I kinda felt that we were thrown into the mix pretty hard with Caithe suddenly getting her skills and then praying you will hit hard enough to survive…but once I had the initial panic attack and my adrenaline readjusted she was a lot of fun to play with.
I haven’t started the achievements yet, so before I get burnt out doing them I will say the story started strong, and tapered off til the very unceremonious cliff-hanger. I like where it is going though. So long as they stay on a 2 week format I can put up with it being so short. As for Faolain, her new voice seems to give her a bit more character imho. I dunno, maybe she’s just too stiff in the base game to me, but this is Fao before she turns her back on the Grove so she should have more emotion, even if it’s snark. Lack of accent doesn’t bother me. Accents don’t necessarily make up for acting skill.
Neither do I, but it just felt too out of place for me. It’s more of a nitpick, really.
Whilst I am never a fan of playing a char which isn’t your own in MMO’s for the reason of not knowing the skills and the charc not matching the playstyle you spend so long trying to get sued to…
…she was rather more fun to play than I expected. Much more like the GW1 Assassin class. And her story was reasonably interesting even it did end abruptly (it at most should be a 1 episode story and not carrying over like it does).
Despite my early misgivings, it was better than than last epsiode, but far, far too short and abrupt. And the main story still hasn’t progressed. I’m starting to become disengaged with the “journey”.
I loved the SS Topsy Turvy though – that was just cool!
Now that you think about it, Caithe did play more like an assassin than a thief with so many of her speed attacks.
I thought I’d get the negatives out of the way first,
1. I personally thought that I did not have enough opportunity to get a hang of Caithe’s skills in Meeting the Asura. In fact, I am not quite happy that those skills were locked unless I make myself seen and by then, I’d be dead unless I react on instinct. I have appreciated that I at least see those skills even when I am stealthed just so that I know what does what.
2. While this is understandable, I really thought that Faolain’s accent is different. I can guess you got a different voice actress for her but still, I can barely even hear a hint of British accent from her.
3. WHY DID YOU HAVE TO END IT THERE? I REALLY WANNA SEE WHAT’S BEYOND THOSE DOORS, kitten!!!!!
Now for the Positives,
1. Once I got to learn Caithe’s skills a bit, I have to say she is kitten fun to play as. She is fast, elusive and I like the attack where I can freeze my targets stone cold.
2. The stealth mechanic in Meeting the Asura is very very good considering the limitations this game has. It had the right amount of challenge and prior knowledge of stealth games on my part to get the gist of how to pass the Asura that it took me around 3 tries at least to finish that instance.
3. The story itself was okay. Not great. Just okay.
One gripe I have is Faolain in that I expected to see her in a more positive light outside of her love for Caithe simply because I still do not understand what Caithe saw in Faolain that qualifies as “dearheart” material.
Overall, I thought it was a good update. It was better than the previous one, that’s for sure.
I am questioning the bugs myself. Then again, I took my time to read into the situation myself to notice anything.
Exactly what was disappointing about it?
He quite clearly stated that the length was disappointing since each episode has been shorter and shorter and contains less and less content.
Did you not read the OP?
I read it, yes. But all I got was that it was short. I’d appreciate specifics.
Exactly what was disappointing about it?
If I might suggest this, why not have players start with the weapon of their choice. Like say something like: “In battle, I use my trusty ______”, If I were a mesmer, the choices would be “sword” “greatsword” “scepter” or something like that. That would actually save players the trouble of having to go to the TP themselves to reselect the weapon they want.
