Do you want to make them “useful” or “popular”? Because technically condition builds can still work though taking down enemies is not going to be as fast. That said, I will admit that they are on the weak side in open PvE and we are slowly transitioning to facing enemies that would need condition-based builds to defeat more quickly.
Structured PvP has reward tracks that can give you tomes of knowledge that can increase your level. Whether or not you get the tomes quicker depends on how often you win your matches. I don’t recommended WvW for levelling though in that you would hardly stand a chance there even when your level is maxxed to 80 when stepping foot there, unless you want to go to the Edge of the Mists where it’s ideal for power-levelling but that depends if you got a good commander or guide to help you there (usually found with a colored dorito over his head)
If you are just two levels under for a quest, it’s not going to be a major disadvantage for you to complete said quest.
Yeah, I do misclick, especially with my engineer. I keep trying to press 1 to throw grenades only to realize that I got my tool kit in hand so I am just waving my wrench like an idiot.
I rolled a necromancer as my very first character. While it’s true I did have a bit of a hard time in dungeons with my build, I still pressed on. She is the only light armor class I feel very comfortable playing as when compared to the mesmer or elementalist as I value survivability over power with them.
To say that the Necromancer is useless however is not always true. In certain cases, when the party dies, I am the last to live and on most occasions, am able to snuff out the final dungeon bosses’ life when it’s around 2 percent or so. Minion Masters are excellent for levelling but not that good in the higher levels, especially in the Silverwastes as the mordrem deal massive damage and can tank pretty hard. You might want to focus on either becoming good at using the necro’s wells or focus on using your necromancer’s death shroud as it provides an excellent source of damage and an extra life bar for you, especially if you have a staff in hand.
Elementalists deal great damage with their fire and air attunements but from personal experience, they are terrible at handling punishment themselves unless you got the gear to give yourself more survivability.
They are hidden from the content finder until level 10 or so, I believe. Otherwise, you can still see them on the map or in the actual game. :P
I just wanted to provide an update since it’s been a while.
- We are currently working to restore the Greatest Fear storyline to the live game. I can’t provide a release date at this point.
- In addition to restoring the Personal Story steps to their original order we’re making some minor improvements where possible (e.g. recording new VO or updating certain conversations, etc.).
We’ll provide additional details closer to release. Thanks much for your patience.
That’s all well and good. Nice to know you are getting down to fixing it. Now, that just leaves the issue on characters who have been through the botched PS. Will you by some chance, make it replayable like you did with the Living Story? Because if I have to grind my charr character just to see the fixed version, that’s just bullcrap. :/
The Personal Story was never designed to be replayable on a single character, so making a change like that would involve a lot of revision (updating and testing hundreds of story steps). It’s simply out of scope.
The updated story steps will start with A Light in the Darkness.
This is just unacceptable, though. You’re telling me that I’ve ruined my chances of ever experiencing the full personal story and having a correct and complete story journal for my main character because I didn’t think to research whether or not personal story arcs were just incompetently REMOVED from the game before I continued my story? This is your fault, not mine. But I am the one getting punished.
If you can’t reset stories to the greatest fear, I would even accept a full personal story reset to biography and do the work of getting my character back up to that part of the story. I’d also even pay for such a service in the gemstore. I’ll wait for HoT for it too. Just give me SOME option other than rerolling my main. Please.
I feel your pain there. But still the game prior to the Living Story updates wasn’t designed to be replayable to begin with with the branching instances and all that jazz. I personally would gladly reroll my character for a fresh start. But the issue lies in me having to double the grind just to get the gold I need to re-gear my character, which can burn me out even more. If they can provide the replacement gear (by just simply looking at the gear the character has and providing identical copies of it) and stuff for it, at the very least the levelling process will be less tedious to do.
Actually, that’s a pretty good question. The story journal would look out of whack that way.
1) In addition to the heart quests the game provides, this game also has dynamic events that provide a fairly generous amount of XP outside of the heart quests so you might as well give those a shot. It’s for certain you can guarantee to come across those at least once.
2) There are upgrade items (armor runes, weapon sigils, jewels) definitely but at the early levels they don’t matter too much as the game focuses less on the stats early game and more on how well you can move around. Some of them provide additional buffs once certain conditions are met like if you swap to weapon B, said weapon that do poison damage if you nail a single hit for instance.
3) Stat Points? Hmmm…. if by that you are referring to the game’s traits, yes. You get them as early as level 30. Plus there are skill points that can easily be found through the blue ribbon symbols.
4) The only monsters that provide a significant amount of EXP are elites, champions and world bosses.
5) Yes, rangers do have AoEs of their own. One of them can rain arrows through their longbow’s fifth skill.
The level 70 ones and beyond.
The trailer does imply that Faolain may ally with us in the defeat of the mordrem, but I am still curious as to why she would do such a thing. What does she hope to gain from this?
Really? When I saw her impaling what seemed to be a Pact soldier with a spear, I kinda though it implied bad things.
If the Pact turn on all sylvari Faolain (which the demo story seems to indicate won’t happen, at least to no great extent) I can see Faolain and the Nightmare Court coming to the aid of former Pact sylvari that didn’t align with Mordremoth. If the Nightmare Court are a third party (not Dreamers, not serving Mordremoth), the Pact abandoning innocent sylvari is a great opportunity for the Nightmare Court to step in, defend their people and bring them on side.
Going through Crucible of Eternity, everything in there is a confirmed Elder Dragon minion/creature except for the Nightmare Husks. Knowing what we know now (that sylvari are meant to serve Mordremoth) it seems very difficult argue that the nightmare isn’t Mordremoth’s corruption.
My biggest reason for not believing (yet) that the nightmare is Mordremoth’s corruption is that the truth about the sylvari’s origins was kept a secret until now. If all Nightmare Court knew that a) Mordremoth existed and b) that sylvari were meant to serve it, why would they keep it a secret up till now? As Wynne says, if Faolain knew the truth she would use it against the Pale Tree (at the time the Nightmare Court hadn’t been founded, so it is possible that Faolin knowing the truth led to the founding of the Nightmare Court – the hiccup is that Cadeyrn founds the court, not Faolain).
If Scarlet was fighting off Mordremoth influence in her mind and she knew the Nightmare Court were serving Mordremoth, why would she include them in the Toxic Alliance? Why wouldn’t the Nightmare Court either capture Scarlet or completely turn her to Mordremoth’s servant? Why wouldn’t the Nightmare Court throw 100% support behind Scarlet if she was doing Mordremoth’s bidding?
It’s not believable to me that the Nightmare Court already serve Mordremoth and somehow the dragon is not once mentioned nor is the truth of sylvari, not until Season 2.
My guess is that the Nightmare Court does not know (at least not yet) about where the nightmare came from. They just got consumed by it but they are not aware of how it came to be. Though this leaves a possible question towards Scarlet in that if she knows this secret, how come she didn’t tell the splinter faction of the NC that was a part of the Toxic Alliance. Then again, she is still very cuckoo since her experiment with Omadd.
From the way I see the Nightmare Court, when they become consumed by Nightmare, their mindset becomes darkened but at the same time, they still retain a sense of individuality.
The trailer does imply that Faolain may ally with us in the defeat of the mordrem, but I am still curious as to why she would do such a thing. What does she hope to gain from this?
If we are going by staves, the mistforged staff seems perfect for a revenant.
Well, I can imagine they’d be focusing on developing the expansion as well as resolving existing problems this game has so I don’t think we can expect actual adventures from Anet anytime soon. We’d have holiday-based events but that’s kind of expected. That said, I do want something to hold players over. Even if they have to bring the Super Adventure Box back.
It looks like this is the default price otherwise we can see the original price crossed out and have the discounted price shown.
There is an app on Overwolf that can save you the trouble of alt-tabbing called GW2 Monster Hunter. It’s going to alleviate your problems in a snap in that it can show you the timer of every world boss.
I will assume that when Heart of Thorns comes around, so too will it’s Personal Story. With what I have seen thus far from the game, I can only come up with one major story for the humans.
Based on the trailer where Canach is defending himself, and the one part in the LS where there have been attempts to discredit Queen Jennah as a proper ruler, we could say that Minister Caudecus may play a significantly larger role here. If he learned the true nature of the sylvari as being Mordremoth minions, he can use that information against the Queen in that she is harboring a major potential threat within the kingdom. I would guess that Jennah and Anise would object to this but it could make things worse and actually incite some dissent within the kingdom.
That’s what I think at the very least.
There is still the matter of how to help the characters who have completed the personal storyline. What I might suggest may be asking too much but here’s what I have:
If the character who experienced the botched story has customized his character through the self-style kit, as well as invested a heavy deal on gear that isn’t ascended, the best option would be to compensate those players by providing a free self-style kit as well as duplicates of their original gear so that they don’t have to spend their gold again. If such a thing isn’t possible, then you can always provide the player with free complete set of ascended armor and just one ascended weapon. Though the player in question has to request it over to Arenanet’s customer support.
Like I said, this may be asking too much out of Arenanet and this can easily be abused by people who desire free ascendeds. But I suggest limiting this courtesy to just one character per GW2 account to minimize it somehow.
This is in my opinion the least you can do for the players who love the story and for those who have waited for eight months just to hear some updates from you.

I’d rather not have to ask mapchat for “events?”, but with this issue I have with the content finder not finding any events within my area (even though I completed the map). Is anyone else having this issue?
To be honest, the wings are awesome. But I must abstain from buying it.
Looks good. I am curious. What about if I use grenades, tools and say elixir gun. Would that work in dungeons too?
I was hoping if you guys can give me links to the most updated trait assignments for Celestial Rifle rangers. Individual builds are fine but if you got one that you use for all modes without you needing to change them, even better.
I don’t get everyone’s love for Tybalt. He’s nice and all, but he’s a bumbling oaf. I would like priory a bit more if the scholars acted a bit smarter. Sadly, they are usually portrayed fairly dumb for the brainy order.
The one thing I can say about Tybalt is that he stands out as a charr in that your first impression towards him in that he isn’t your usual charr meanie.
As for my favorite, I thought the Order of Whispers is pretty kitten impressive though not because I have Tybalt by my side. It’s for the first few missions from my asura and Agent Batanga as well as the mission with my sylvari and Cai (the one where she would hallucinate about the oozes and stuff) and the one involving letting Demmi escape.
I’m just wondering how you guys save the gold you need to buy a precursor or even a legendary. Do you guys have a checklist on what you do other than just telling yourself to restrain spending gold on things you don’t need? I’d appreciate a bit more detail.
You know, I always wanted to make a mad scientist with my asura. I got the magitech gear though the missing piece lies in the goggles. I mean, there is the eagle-eye goggles but they don’t come off as wacky enough. Think you can have them swirly goggles that actually swirl? Please make this and sell this, Arenanet. FOR SCIENCE!
I might be guessing about it, but it seems that you are in a hurry in getting this item right away. Why? The Remorse isn’t going anywhere.
Assuming that does happen, I can imagine a huge chunk of the playerbase will just leave or will resort to getting gold through less ideal methods. I welcome this in that if I want to buy gold, I can at least do it safely. Plus, the Pay 2 Win here is present in this game but unless you have a clear idea on what you want to do with that gold, it’s hardly noticeable at all outside of just investing the gold you need to buy yourself a legendary right away.
@Astral Projections I assume your friend’s logic towards this game is that if your character doesn’t look fabulous enough, your practically a loser? That’s more like “pay to look pretty” than an actual win unless he aims to have his character be in a Tyrian equivalent of Vogue magazine.
While I welcome the Personal Story being replayable, the problem with it is that the PS by design is set to have branching approaches on how your character wants to tackle a situation, when compared to the Living Story in that it’s story is told in a linear fashion making that part easy to make replayable.
If I have to make a brand new character just to go through a fixed version of the story, I’d be fine with that. But Arenanet still has yet to find something that can act as a form of compensation for the trouble.
after 2 feature packs and so much fail afterwards, you’re still hoping for another one?
i hope that IF they have one they both better ask us if this and that change is a good idea and that they release enough info so we don’t have such a big speculation threat that only ends up with disappointments.
The thing with feature patches is that they are always there to address various major issues and it’s inevitable that it will pave way to new issues. The opportunity to ask us all lies in the forums themselves. Although, I do agree with you that Anet should ask for some last minute input before having it all go live (though at the same time, I can imagine that the feedback generated would be even more chaotic).
Feature patches are usually all about a bundle of changes in a single package, right? If this is part of a Feature Patch, I think Arenanet would have provided an official blog post on this site hyping it up. Otherwise, I see this as another small update patch
As for the change itself, I can see this as another opportunity for GW2 machinima makers to make something better as there have been very very few videos from that game. If not for machinima, at least it’s good for easy screenshots.
So you don’t want to invest money nor the time needed to get a bigger bank space? Okay, then it’s best to just keep the ones you really need and not hoard every item you pick up. Take a good look at your stuff and check if you really need them. Otherwise, you could just do what other players do and just make your own guild bank. That one has way more space available and starting a guild is just 1 gold piece (I think)
Hmmm…. what I am concerned about the most is that will this be made available for a limited time as well? A part of me doesn’t want to as I am currently investing my gold though getting the best gear for my engineer yet at the same time.
I can totally see my necromancer wearing those wings like a true angel of death.
I’d envision it being something like this.
You know how kids would attempt to play pretend in that they play the part of their favorite hero/monster from legend. I picture Revenants to be similar in that they relive the memories of the past legend’s deeds to the point where emulating their fighting techniques and powers in battle almost as easily as normal fighting.
A golemancer spec, huh? Well it’s true that a profession like that is asura-exclusive. Unless you change the name to “Pilot” where an engineer can control a particular machine that’s actually better than most golems.
How I can picture this would be that each race will have a racial exclusive machine to control with different looking abilities but the stats for each skill will remain identical so that racial will not play a key factor in getting an edge. As for the machines themselves:
1) Asura = An Omega Golem
2) Charr = A mechanical devourer
3) Sylvari = A Clockheart
4) Humans = This is going to be tough but I can imagine a bulky version of a Watchknight
5) Norn = Steam Ogre
I intend on making my revenant a norn and I’d have him go through this scenario in that he was once a guardian but after fearing that he may not be strong enough to join the effort against Mordremoth, he sought the Spirits of the Wild for answers (would probably go with either Wolf or Raven). He’s probably undergo his form of a spiritual journey and at some point encounter visions of heroes and legends before him. He’s use what he has learned as examples and hopes that with this newfound knowledge, he can help turn the tide of the battle alongside likeminded individuals.
If there is one thing I can guess about Revenants is that since they have the power to tap into the Mists directly, something that is very rare, they should know better not to take this lightly. He may be a norn but he won’t be foolish enough to brag that he has the strength of Jora (assuming she is among the select legends)

Celestial Pistol/Shield is frankly, garbage in all game-modes, compared to other options.
My recommendation would be for you to of course pick up a gear set of assorted Berserker/Assassin stats for PvE, and Knight stat armor with Celestial Jewlery for WvW.
And use Rifle.
You can still use HgH traits if that’s how you like to play your Engineer, just realize you will have a lot of redundant Might/fury in a competent PvE group.
HgH is great for WvW and non-optimized PvE content. It has extremely high damage in those circumstances.
Awww…..
But I really wanna use pistol shield.
Where were you planning to use this in PvE? That is just honestly not a good build for dungeons.
Nah, I don’t plan on bringing this on dungeons all the time (unless I feel like challenging myself and giving my party a hard time). Just the usual open PvE along with WvW and PvP.
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Engineer_-_HGH_Hybrid
Here’s my problem. I want to use this build on all three modes (PvE, WvW and PvP) but it seems that I need Celestial gear to maximize it’s potential. Since I am still in the process of gathering the materials I need for creating celestial gear, I wonder if there is an alternative gear set that I can use. Suggestions would be welcome.
I saw a few of them in the Heart of the Mists last night. OH MY GOD! IT’S THE kittenING APOCALYPSE! STOCKPILE THE MASHED POTATOES! THE END TIMES HAVE COME!
I don’t expect a carbon copy of a trinity system in this game. But I thought it’s a good idea of incorporate bits of it to try something different in terms of gameplay. Particularly with Taunting in that it makes Dungeons much easier to do when you need to get mobs off someone’s back.
@Rognik I can say that they didn’t break the mold completely but rather put a new spin on things to make it new. And I’m content with that.
So the Revenant’s legends decide what your utilities, healing and elite skills are, correct? How does one unlock those skills to begin with? Do I have to spend the skill points to unlock a particular legend and thus I get the packaged skills that go with it?
To be honest, taunting does have it’s usefulness in PvE, particularly in dungeons where you would need to pull a horde of mobs to you in certain challenges.
Tactics, tactics and more tactics… yet it all comes down to another thing instead – the amount of people that come.
Actually, it doesn’t come down to that at all. Large groups will wipe if they don’t know what they’re doing, while small groups can be very fast and effective.
True. It all boils down to how efficient you can guide the players in the right direction and how well they listen and actually apply that information. Numbers may be a deciding factor but without communication amongst players, the chances are at least 50/50 in doing a successful run.
Usually the one solution I can think of to avoid that kind of toxicity when it comes to dungeons is to just start an LFG of your own setting the expectations and such. The one problem there is that it could take you a looooong time just to get a full party if your guildmates don’t want to join in.
That would be great and all. Except the thing is, save for my accessories and rings which are ascended, every gear piece I got is exotic. And it can be pretty taxing work just to farm the tokens I need to get me the gear. Plus there is the matter that my charr also had the customization from the self-style kit. I could sink the time or the gold just to take the same Zerker gear as before, but that may make me even less happy.
(edited by Malkavian.4516)
Is it planned to release together with HoT, or before/after?
Highly unlikely that you will be able to answer, but worth a shot ^^
That would be pretty BS if it came alongside HoT, imo. But it would be better than not having it out at all. I’d prefer it to come out sooner. Though it does leave the question as to what to do with characters that have experienced the broken story. It’s been established that the story can’t be reversed nor replayed. What needs to be done? Reroll a new character and sink in more gold just to get the gear needed?
A lot of people don’t have a clear idea of what they want, I guess.
But if they do release a feature patch, the things I expect them to fix for one is the Personal Story issues. The one involving the restoration of the chapters back to what they were before along with fixing a few heart quests that felt broken (for instance, the one quest where you have to fight caged monsters in the Plains of Ashford), and bringing back the various activities in the early stages of the game. That’s pretty much all I desire with a new feature patch.
In PvP, here’s what I normally use against thieves. When I feel that they are near my position, I use Entangle to stop them from moving even for a little while as I always find them rolling around the area to be one of their best assets. And to ensure that I kill them quickly, I switch from bow to greatsword and use Quickening Zephyr and Signet of Stone to deal as much damage as I can before the thief can break free. It’s not 100 percent effective, but it does give me a fighting chance against thieves.
I love the Reef Drake. But the problem I have with this pet is that his skill is not the most handy of the bunch. I was thinking that instead of giving the confuse ailment to the reef drake, why not give it torment instead?
