They created the racial skills intentionally inferior to make them to be use just as flavor skill.
Allow all races be able to acquire the other racial skills would make the only purpose of the racial skills irrelevant.Well they are already so irrelevant that I would gladly take any change
The thing about these racial skills is that while they are inferior to profession skills, they give the race you play a greater sense of identity which is very useful for the kind of player who likes to role play their own character, I personally like using the Power Suit on my engineer from time to time. I see no reason in removing them from the game completely as you can just disregard them yourself.

So the official blog post is out on the site. Now I am curious about one thing is that when you craft the precursors via step 1 and 2, the pre will look like what they would normally look like, whereas if they are finally crafted in step 3 they will look similar to the legendary they will eventually become? Is it like say Twilight where it’s crafted precursor will just be a black bladed sword without the image of the night sky?
I also noticed that not every new legendary will be made readily available in the expansion. Some will be there but they’ll slowly introduce even more with updates. This is nice. ;D

I have to say, getting precursors in a manner that is related to said precursor is very neat. To get the Moot, you must be immersed in norn culture which involves hunting beasts, drinking, singing and boasting.
Makes me wonder how the Hunter will work out. From it’s design alone, you can say that you’d have to be immersed in charr culture to an extent.
they said hunter would be based on hunting down beasts
I thought that was for the Moot.

Yeah…. I like the look of the guitar but from the way it sounds, it might as well be a keytar.
My guess it would be kind of like that permanent Hair Style contract where it will only be made available in the Black Lion chests and it will cost a lot of gold.
The end of the month draws near. Any updates yet?
I honestly think we need a proper thread for this. But let me get started with mine.
The only major issue I have with this beta is framerate drops which are noticeable at the beginning of the PS instance and on some occassions when looking at the environment, which I kind of resolved by decreasing my FOV drastically. I understand that the game has plenty to render, but I hope Anet comes up with a way to optimize it further to make the game feel as smooth as possible even to gamers who don’t have proper gaming PCs.
As for the Revenant skills, I honestly found Jalis Ironhammer’s skillset to be more useful than Mallyx in general especially against the Wyvern. I use Mallyx every so often but I hardly notice any attractive results as of yet when compared to Jalis.
In addition, I don’t find the mace/axe to be very useful against the Wyvern as opposed to the hammer. Also, I found the Skill 4 of the hammer a bit jittery at times.
Aside from that though, my first impressions for the beta are mostly positive. I am able to connect to the beta without a hitch. I got a bit of lag here and there but that is to be expected in this current form.

To be more accurate, Jalis is more useful than Mallyx in general.
To be honest, I love that mining tool. But I already got one that has a more useful purpose, the Watchwork one.
To be honest, I don’t see a situation in PvE where celestial is actually useful, as opposed to PvP and WvW…
In dungeons, they at least keep me alive longer compared to zerkers where I do great damage but at the cost of me going glassy.
The thing with races here is that they each have their own unique stories to them on the first 30 levels. Imagine how wrong it would be to have a human having to save his Flame Legion charr father. >.>
For me, it just doesn’t really fit for every race. The one thing I loved about the racial themes is that it fits for the respective character. Listening the same tone on the charr intro just does not have that feeling that you are getting pumped for your adventure. To me that’s more of a bug or a fault as there was no indication on the patch notes saying so.
Well, I used to run a zerker ranger in the Silverwastes to stand up against Gold and Silver. But I thought of giving my celestial engineer a fair shake.
If you ask me, you probably wouldn’t be missing much with what the stress test will offer which is just seeing how stable can they get servers running and all that stuff. Besides, there are many opportunities to get in.
I get 300 ms myself on average. So far though, this game plays well for me despite this. While it hinders me from reacting accordingly, it does help me work on predicting the next move.
They did say they are working on it as indicated on their forum posts. The issue lies in WHEN will we see these changes happen. And what is Anet going to do about players who have experienced the botched storyline?
The Romke’ dialogue was only silent at the very beginning of the instance.
I might also point out that there are some parts of the Living Story where characters are supposed to say something but it just ends up being muted. But I don’t mind it as much as they are replayable.
Oh and one last thing. Dessa’s cinematic for the Fractals of the Mist is also muted.
For those who don’t know, stress tests are there to test server loads. Stress tests can be unpredictable because they try to overload the server intentionally. So you might get disconnects or you might get extreme lag. It’s happened in every stress test I’ve been part of.
Understandable, man. Though from the looks of the time, I’d have to get up really early just to enjoy the beta assuming I am able to get in.
Most beta testers simply have to give the game a shake by playing it as normal. To be an efficient beta tester, you’d just have to take note of a few things that needs Arenanet’s attention so it could be fixed in the future.
They are definitely fixing it, for sure. Sad that it’s been like 6-7 months since this mistake happened.
There is that plus testing the beta stuff out does not mean that every possible error would be cleaned away. To be honest, I think this can be minimized even further if there were PTRs for such updates and patches a few days before the official release. But then again, if there were PTRs, depending on feedback it could delay the release together.
Basically when you play the first cinematic after you made your character, their respective racial theme does not play with said cinematic but rather the Guild Wars 2 theme. Just thought you might wanna get to that along with many other issues.
The more I think about it, races other than exposure to lore and culture don’t seem to add anything new as opposed to a new class. Not that I’m saying new races shouldn’t be added, but I just think they are best added to an expansion where it makes sense for them to be on. For instance, if people want Kodan, they’d probably be in an expansion dedicated to Jormag.
I agree. That does need some work. :/
I like to experiment a bit on how I want my guild wars experience to be like so for all intents and purposes, I’d say the camera did it’s job. People have complained for a long long time about how the camera in this game sucked, myself included but at the same time, there are people who have grown accustomed to these changes themselves. This is a way of being fair to both parties. It does still need a bit of fleshing out to do, for sure but a few problems should not merit reversion to what it once was otherwise, things would get kind of stale.
For me, it would go to either the norn or the sylvari as I have yet to roll a character for either race. I’d probably consider going norn first as I wanted my character to be this one guy who aims to become a legend and would use the memories of the legendary heroes as examples of how he can become great himself. I suppose the same would go for a sylvari assuming I send him over to the Durmand Priory.
I’d like to think that the Ash and Blood Legions have their share of tech themselves but the tech they produce is dedicated to what their respective legions stand for. Ash Engineers would probably be good at making top-notch traps or cloaking devices whereas Blood Engineers would probably make nastier Charrzookas or pilot siege engines.
The problem I have with getting items is that if they are done through chance. With paying for something either through the gold I farm or through cakitten least know I have a plan in mind on how I intend to get it. But that said, I do agree in that additional skins do need to be unlocked through the gameplay content we have. It can just be skins unique to those questlines.
Here are my thoughts. When people are literally expecting a “no grind” experience, I think that’s asking a little too much as there have been very few RPGs especially MMOs that pull it off without making the game feel boring. To me, it’s not about removing the problem of grinding but rather making grinding less obvious to most MMO players. Granted, a lot of people will catch on to this eventually, but compared to most MMOs, this is one such game where the grinding is not something you do out of a “need” as opposed to a “want”.
That’s what I did basically. I made use of the time I had just levelling my engineer to 80 and probably just doing the first half of map completion along with gearing him with celestials.
Here’s my take on it. I understand the arguments from both sides. I personally don’t agree with the change. I feel like if a player wants to get a legendary they should have to experience and become a master in all aspects of the game. I’d even go a step further and say they should add some sPvp requirements (even if it is just exploring the sPvP lobby map) in order to get the Gift.
If I were Anet I would make world completion into a tiered achievement. Complete 100% pve gets you AP, the title, maybe the star on your name. Tier 2 , which adds WvW and some sPvP exploration gets you the gifts for legendary.
Otherwise based off of their statement “to align the systems of Guild Wars 2 more closely with their connected content” they should remove the use of legendaries in WvW.
The issue I have with that in WvW is that a single player may find it extremely challenging to get people to cooperate with him to get the map completion necessary to get the Gift of Exploration. It will no longer be about mastery of the WvW aspect as opposed to waiting for an opportune time for them to face inferior servers giving their said server enough supremacy to breeze through the maps without fear of enemies charging at them.
I welcome the removal myself despite the requirement not being a major bother to me. But don’t you think it would be better to replace the requirement by providing map completion bonuses to the new maps (the Silverwastes, Dry Top and Southsun).
What does concern me though is that I hope the rewards for map completion on those worlds remain intact.
@rhapsody The way I see it, depending on what server you are on, new players may or may not go to WvW at all. If new players want to get a headstart on WvW, I suggest they seek guidance through a guild who will gladly help them out.
In my opinion, the people who go afk in a Silverwastes map are just being inconsiderate of others who just desire victory in their run.
Eh, if I get into the beta, it’s all the more awesome. If not, then at least I get to look at the expansion with fresh eyes.
The way I see Revenants is that they are those who have been exposed to the Mists long enough to learn the secrets and memories of heroes of ages past. As Tyrannical pointed out, norn havrouns are an example of those who tap into the Mists and the players (and Rytlock) would probably be the first ones to actually integrate that knowledge for combat purposes.
Did just that. All that’s left is to wait three days.
Yeah, but it’s not like he’s asking for something in return up front. Either way, I won’t get my hopes up too much. IF he doesn’t give me the item, I didn’t lose anything.
Yep. So far he’s at level 27 last I saw him. But yeah, we talked it over and I thought I’d play it safe and just wait a few days to see if the mailing function works. Otherwise, I lose nothing.
I checked older forum posts and I am guessing that this is a countermeasure against hackers and gold farmers. What I don’t get is that my friend has his account for 2 months now. Shouldn’t he be able to send items as normal?
Huh?
I know of no such restriction.
When I got my first precursor, The Legend, I mailed it to a friend less than an hour later with no problems.
He did say he bought the game two months ago. And one player quoted from a wiki that newer accounts have certain restrictions when it comes to sending high value items.
I am curious. A fellow player bought a scarlett’s kiss and was thinking of giving it away via mail. He said that he can’t send it due to the value of the item being too high. Is this a recurring thing?
So, Mr. Stein. Any word on the progress of the personal story fix?
I’m working on the messaging and am working out some design issues on a few details. I should have more info to post before the end of the month. Thanks for your patience.
Fair enough. Though some elaboration on what you said would be welcome.
Huh, looks like they are removing the WvW requirement. Eh, least it makes things more convenient. The problem I had with that req is that it’s not hard to complete but rather it’s very dependent on whether the players in the server are willing to help you out with that I guess. Though don’t you think that it would be even better to replace moving the WvW map req with the new maps (southsun, dry top and silverwastes)?
Let’s look at this from a logical perspective. How can you, a single commander stand a chance against a massive force that is Zhaitan’s minions? You are definitely going to need help. Besides, the main head of the story dungeon is treated as the main character.
So, Mr. Stein. Any word on the progress of the personal story fix?
If you ask me, an update patch like that would be best served if bundled into another feature patch.
I am curious if engineers should have celestial weapons to go with their celestial armor or can engineers be more flexible with that depending on the situation in WvW? For instance, I can have a Soldier rifle with me or I can bring out Dire Pistol and shield. Just curious.
To me, I don’t think it will be successful in terms of gameplay mechanics. It will just feel like another WoW clone.
