I have played several MMOs, but none of them to my knowledge has there been a class that actually uses shields as a primary weapon. I mean, if Captain America can do it, why not a class like a Guardian as they are supposed to be specialists in defensive magic? And nothing spells “defense” like a shield.
How I imagine it would be this: the shield can be treated as a short-to-medium range weapon and it can deal high damage but at the cost of having less attack speed when compared to, say, scepters?
Think on it, Arenanet. For the future.
To those who are claiming that paying for LS episodes missed is expensive, I ask this: why do you want to play the previous chapters? Is it just for story? Or do you want the full package?
If you are just in it for the story. Then it’s easy as pie. Ask someone you know who unlocked the content and jump into their story chapter. If you want the full package, naturally you need to pay up. I can see where people are coming from when they say that they can’t afford to pay for those eps because they are too expensive in their eyes. But alternatives exist for a reason in that you can get the next best thing.
S2 has been a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE disappointment.
Who cares what happens at this point??
me?
And me. LS is flawed but it’s not too bad.
And as I said, if cost is your issue, then you can choose NOT to pay for the episodes and just jump in someone else’s instance instead. You won’t get the achievements and rewards associated with it, but that’s going to be a decent tradeoff for not paying 2 bucks.
The alternative is that if you just want to experience what the story is like, you could always ask someone to play those story bits with you in a party. Of course, you won’t get rewards that come with completing the instances but that is the tradeoff and since it’s not your instance, the party leader is controlling the flow of the story.
Just saw the trailer. Not as hype-inducing as opposed to the previous trailers, that’s for sure and it felt very redundant as we had a trailer recapping what transpired so far. I don’t think another one was needed. With that being said, with the appearance of the Shadow of the Dragon since Dragon’s Reach, it did make me a little excited as I assume we will be facing him again. My concern is, will he pop as a new world boss or as an instanced boss? I really prefer him to be a world boss.
Um… if you got a problem with your internet, take it up with your ISP.
I should also point out that since the NPE, there have been two instances that the voice scripts do not play during the Personal Story, namely the final dialogue cutscene between your character and Trahearne on the Battle of Fort Trinity and at the beginning dialogue cutscene between your character and Romke’s spirit in Romke’s Final Voyage. Plus I noticed that when I play the cinematic of the Fractals of the Mists, Dessa’s voice is missing.
Honestly, I thought the NPE is decent in trying to introduce new players to the mechanics, but I honestly think that you should give players some credit in letting them figure out the mechanics themselves. If you want to give them a tutorial, we got the very first story instance for them and you could always just make the necessary tweaks to those instances instead.
Faced Tequatl as my first boss of the year. Then I faced the Jungle Wurm. Who need’s fireworks when you got spells, arrows and swords other stuff flying towards massive enemies.
Checked it out myself. The issue is that it looks far too small for a charr. Rox’s Quiver is just the right size, but this will have to do as I do feel annoyed that I am just magically pulling arrows out of my kitten while I use my skills. :P
Looking back, the quivers themselves are all the same if I forge em.
(edited by Malkavian.4516)
Oh sweet. I didn’t know that existed. Thanks a bunch, Metallus. Though compared to what Rox has, that quiver looks pretty kitten plain.
I think doing just one of them for say level 1-10 characters will be enough to get them 10 AP and 3 dailies for levels 11 all the way to 80 from here on out. :/
Is there any chance that Rox’s Quiver backpiece will be available again at the Gem Store? It just feels weird having a ranger who uses a bow but no quiver to make it perfect.
Well….. Daily Jumping Puzzles would be nice.
I always thought that the reason people desire an expansion more than anything is because they want to make this game popular again. Not that it’s a bad thing but aside from new skills/races/terrain/classes/others, what would an expansion offer that the Living Story could not on it’s own?
And even if an expansion does come out, I can almost predict the people going to say that “Vanilla GW2 is teh best!!111”
Yes, I do want a Season 3.
A Ranger, eh? Good choice.
Welcome to GW2 man. Just thought you should know that while the game is fun, it’s still far from perfect.
It’s irrelevant to the task at hand at the time. But I have a feeling we will know about it. Even if the true story behind it was that he found it at a bazaar and had to pick a fight with the storekeeper just to give him a good deal on the sword. XD
Yeah, if you look at the gold message below, it specifies that it’s not an official Arenanet PM.
1. If you want a really good item, especially a precursor, then I guess RNG is important
2. Since the recent update, early game feels more of a grind than before.
3. Let’s see…. Personal Story, the absence of the standard trinity, easy to pick up and play, WvW, dynamic events. world bosses….
4. It’s a bit expensive like say 50 gold for a full Berserker gear (maybe more) if you want to get it quickly as opposed to relying on the RNG to get it for you.
5. Pay2Win? More like Pay to Make Your Character look cool. The only things I see that are Pay2Win in a way is the conversion of gems to gold and some boosters but even if you bought a Legendary with real money, they don’t give a huge DPS increase over other gear.
6. Well, the current Feature Patch kind of makes the later chapters in the Personal Story broken but still playable. No new modes of PvP are available so far and WvW can get monotonous
7. That….. I cannot answer as you need to seek that out for yourself. Do you want to do dungeons? compete against other players? farm the hard way to earn more cash? Those are some of the things you can do.
For races? Let’s see….
Norn: Their walking animation feels way too slow for my taste
As for classes, I can think of a few:
Elementalist: not my style. They deal good damage but it wouldn’t be worth it for me if I can’t survive on my own.
Mesmer: why is their skill 1 a laser beam when it comes to their greatswords?
Glad to know that you love it. As for me, I’m more comfortable with the harp and flute I still have for my characters.
Yeah. Whatever the case, I’m not too worried about it.
after i saw goat simulator winning awards and marvel heroes as best game of the year..i totally lost faith on this top site.. lol
Excuse them for not having the same tastes as you have. Opinions on what’s the best is never universal.
Anyway, I’d say kudos to them for acknowledging GW2 as that.
If you are complaining about it in this game alone, then chances are you might have the same problem with every major MMO in existence as every character name is as unique as a fingerprint. Though if you give your characters last names (applies best for humans, norn and charr), that should help make things easier for you.
Their argument boils down to “incentives force me to do it.” They make no distinction.
Yeah, I agree with you there. Still, making such a fuss about it seems unnecessary when compared to the other issues this game has.
Ever since the new system for dailies came about, there has been mixed reactions. Some people love it, some people hate it and some couldn’t care less about it. Some people hate it because they feel restricted to the whole “play how they want” thing. The way I see it, it’s still there. Will I be punished for not doing my dailies? Aside from not getting easy 10 Achievement Points and some treasure that goes with the dailies, not really. I can choose not to do my Daily Frozen Maw and just beat Tequatl or Claw of Jormag and probably get something just as neat there maybe even better if luck is on my side. I could get more achievement points just by working on my Slayer achievements or just playing as normal on WvW/PvP (though I’ll imagine it’ll be more time consuming but not punishing).
I think that players who negatively react to this daily for that reason can’t tell the difference between “given incentives” and “forced”. When you are given incentive to do something, you have the choice to either do that option or don’t and naturally you’d be rewarded extra if you do whereas being “forced” implies that you got no choice at all or that there would be dire consequences if you choose NOT to do said dailies. It’s not like your character will die or anything if you don’t do your dailies. You’d just miss out on XP scrolls, some extra loot and others but I’m pretty sure you could get the same kind of loot (except for the scrolls unless you get the Tomes in PvP) if you just play the game your way.
This is my two cents on the whole matter
Take example the daily event, today was Gandarent Field or whatever, went there and sooooooo many people were there, everytime i try to do an event i get there its finished already! took me like 1 hour and half just to get 4 events done, cos i couldn’t find any!!!! they were either done when i get there or bugged……. this system is terrible! it felt like there’s hardly any events going on! and 4 events shouldn’t take 1 hour and half to complete!
Um, here’s what I do: I enable the events compass to point me to the right event (assuming I completed the map already on a particular character). That way, I can at least be informed of which is the nearest event I can go to for completion. If it took you an hour and a half to complete, I guess the reason for that would be is if you either did not complete Gendarren Fields or you did not enable the compass to begin with and had to struggle with the map chat to help you find said events.
In all honesty, if an expansion does come in 2015 assuming they announced it on the same year, I’d be more worried than hyped as it usually pertains to rushed content as opposed to announcing it on 2015 and releasing it say a year later.
I honestly prefer this new daily system over the previous ones simply because the previous dailies do not feel as fulfilling. Yes, they were easy to achieve but when I am doing a daily achievement, it should at least be something worth doing as opposed to what I do on a regular basis during gameplay particularly in PvE. I honestly think that more options would be very much welcome in addition to what we already have, such as a Jumping Puzzle Daily at a specific location for example or an Explorable/Story Dungeon Daily (not Fractal) to entice more players to try those out.
The thing with World vs. World is that whether it’ll be fun for you or not will depend on what server you are a part of as there are some servers that are have more dedicated WvWers than others. But in general, I find it more fun to play as opposed to structured PvP out of personal preference for full-scale war style competitive play plus a chance to mingle with the other fellow server-mates who are fighting the good fight.
That is up to the player. The way I see it, it just gives me set goals that might be worth a shot. I got nothing to lose save for the chests that come with those dailies, I think.
World vs World. That’s what keeps me coming back a whole lot.
1. Pretty nice community in-game (as opposed to the majority I see in the forums, anyway)
2. Personal Story
3. The classes I play (Engineer, Necromancer and Ranger) which I never get tired of.
Okay….. I know you guys over there are on vacation but I was thinking of following up with the concern related to the Personal Story issue that needs serious fixing. It’s been four months now.
I wouldn’t mind seeing this, or if it was at least in a frequent rotation.
One thing I have noticed since the new rollout though, and IDK if it’s just my imagination or if anyone else has also noticed…but with no daily reviver, have you guys noticed that you don’t get revived as often? Just curious, could just be I was unlucky the last few days with the people around me.
At least we now know what those people truly are. I personally wouldn’t be able to rez anyone in PvE if I can’t see them but daily or not, it’s only common courtesy to get them back on their feet again.
I am not quite sure myself if this was implemented since the new update came out, but if not, I honestly think vista dailies should be replaced with dailies related to successfully completing Jumping Puzzles.
The new dailies are what dailies should have been from the beginning! Additional quests that you can go out of your way to do AND YOU GET REWARDED gasp
I’ve seen so many arguments “well I don’t play that way” “well I have to go out of my way to do this (too restrictive)” “OMG I get rewarded for logging in? Travesty!”
“I don’t play that way.” It’s literally a quest to get a reward. If you don’t want the reward, don’t do the quest. Guess what? I’m not a big fan of JPs, and I don’t do WvW that often, but I wanted the monthly reward for doing them, so I would do them.
“I have to go out of my way to get a daily now.” You have to go out of your way to get a quest reward? Oh what a pity. I have to go to Arah to get Arah tokens. I don’t really care to be in Arah, but if I want the tokens that’s where I have to go. This is how quests in every single questing game I’ve ever played work. Go out of your way to complete a quest and get rewarded for doing so.
“I get rewarded for logging in? So this is login wars 2?” So if you are complaining about this, but you want the old system back…doesn’t that kind of make you a hypocrite? With the old system you did generally get the daily 5 completed just doing whatever you would do in a normal day (i.e. quests, gathering, etc.). You didn’t have to go out of your way to complete quests. Now you do, and you’re also given a thank you for logging in that day. I can’t really see the downside.
And AP hunters are mad pretty much solely because everyone can keep up with them on AP relatively easy from dailies now. There aren’t 12 tasks that can actually take some time to complete each day. If this is why you think the system is broken then you should probably get over yourself.
The bottom line is that dailies are quests that (kind of) change each day, and you can go out of your way to do them. I don’t think I’ve spent more than 15 minutes doing dailies a single day yet, which is great because then I can go back to doing whatever it is I wanted to do knowing I got the max AP for that day along with some additional rewards that I didn’t get before.
What other games are out there where you don’t have to go out of your way to complete a quest? Now I’m not completely defending the new daily system, as I think tweaks could be made to make it more creative, or more unique daily quests, without jam-packing a few select maps, but c’mon people. You’re complaining about a MMO giving you a quest reward.
I’m sorry, I couldn’t get past the part in your post where you called them quests. Quests? Really now? They’re not quests. They’re stupid pet tricks. Standing on top of a building in the Black Citadel isn’t a quest. Cutting down a few trees isn’t a quest. Crafting something useless isn’t a quest. The very notion is laughable.
Okay those may not be quests. But have you neglected the killing of a world boss as a quest? Or doing 4 quests in an area as a larger quest?
All that aside, if there is one thing I do like about the new selection is that they are not so easy to obtain as before. I go out of my usual playing habits just to attain something nice for myself. They feel like actual achievements in a way.
Another point for ANet to consider, the effects of a zerg in a starter zone to newbies trying to level. I’ve seen one thread about how one brand new person was having the events they were trying to do stomped over by hordes of level 80s. It made leveling in that zone difficult as they didn’t have the firepower to tag mobs or the ability to get to events before they finished.
A new person won’t know that it’s just that zone and that moving to another zone might help. In addition, many people when starting out, want to do their racial “home zone” to get the lore behind their race and save the starting areas of other races for when they make a char of that race. They want to play and level, not find the way to LA, run to there, then find out where the portals to other zones are, run to there, find out where the portal to the new zone is, run to there, then finally get to play.
It’s easy for us, with knowledge of the game to say, ask about other zones or ask if this is usual but a new person who knows no one may assume the zerg is standard and may be hesitant to ask questions, particularly if there are people arguing in map chat and being toxic.
The zerg is the starter zones, in my opinion, is absolutely the most glaring fault in the new achievement system. I have no real problem with anything else, but this is terrible for low level characters and new players.
Agreed.
Yeah, I agree with you but it’s not like every event is going to be rampaged by a zerg all the time, right? There are some events that very little players actually zerg on such as that trivia quest in Queensdale for Destiny’s Edge. I didn’t even know that event even existed.
Might need some revising here and there but I gotta say, I am pretty happy with what I made.
I agree with you there. I got a level 80 engineer waiting for her story to be progressed properly.
My rebuttal to that, odrez is that while before you can earn your daily just by playing how you wanted, I really didn’t feel the achievement factor there if I just do my own thing. I find this great in that I do beyond what I would normally do which I think merits it’s own achievements and rewards.
The Daily Vista…. yeah, I suppose it would be pointless if I already done map completion already. Though that is assuming every character I have already did 100 percent world completion.
Still, I agree in that the options for each mode do need to be increased up a notch as well as the rewards. Perhaps a PvP rank or reward progression booster consumable item if you managed to win your matches?
Now I just like to say this: mechanics-wise, I thought this was much better than the Mad King’s Tower JP in many respects in that it’s not as frustrating where if I fail I have to wait more than a few seconds before I try again. But let me tell you the frustrations I have with this jumping puzzle. This has something to do with the camera issues that I noticed when I was hopping on the presents. It constantly closes in on my character that I couldn’t see the next present and before you know it, I die a lot. In addition, there is the matter of latency issues that prevent me from timing my movement right at the last part with the boulders and the wind blowing. Now the part with the lag I can sort of remedy by myself by just getting better internet that what I have now. But the camera…. oh God, the fricking camera just makes me fail every single time.
I pretty much have not much to say about it as you do make several valid points. Though I should point this out:
Exploration:
Yes you can follow the arrow. Or if you don’t want to, turn it off. It’s right there on the options. The only convenience this arrow has for me is that it at least helps me get to the vista or PoI I want as opposed to having to alt-tab to a youtube guide.
Personal Story:
While it does restrict control over how players want to pace themselves in playing the Personal Story immediately, personally I didn’t mind it because I always make a habit of leveling up every 10 levels or so anyway. There is the matter of the botched up story from Chapter 7 and 8 though that still needs fixing.
Still, even with the restrictions imposed, I still feel like playing the way I want to. I can choose to have my hand held or I can just do the stuff myself.
Now I have to carve out time each day to do this 28 days or no reward? Why not lower the threshhold to 15 days? I’m busy sometimes.
You don’t have to do it 28 days consecutively. You can miss a day, a week, or a month and still retain your progress.
Yeah, but if you don’t then you aren’t getting your full mothly reward for the year. That means you are getting the reward less frequnetly.
Still better than actually being punished for not being diligent with going in, right? I mean, you get rewarded less but you are rewarded all the same.
@Mireles Lore
I should add one more Pro to that: No more of the same rewards from doing the same daily anymore. I mean, it can get tiresome getting the same old Mystic Coin, Liquid Karma and I forget what the third one was in addition to the laurel.
Far fewer choices in pve for those who only do pve. This is an amazingly crappy change. I thought we were going to get more options not less. You already did Less and people HATED it. You can’t be that clueless Anet.
Add more options!
Here’s the thing, the previous dailies provide more options but the options themselves are very very general like “Daily Events”, “Daily Kills”, etc. The options are there but you can practically accomplish them without you even knowing it.
The new dailies are actually really good in that the requirements to complete the daily are less by 2 but the objectives themselves are specific. It just feels slightly more accomplishing, at least for me anyway, in actually doing a daily.
If the concern lies in getting the laurel for each daily then the log-in rewards provide you that while accomplishing a specific daily will just get you the reward specific to said daily along with some AP. In a way, it’s less tedious to do if your concern is just that laurel.
(edited by Malkavian.4516)
This is just something I experienced. Know that I got nothing major against the new dailies, but when I see so many people doing dailies, it just makes me think of this:
I dunno, this looks pretty okay to me. Least getting dailies will be less tedious to do in terms of quantity if the tradeoff is doing specific objectives.
