I might agree with some of this and I do not really know how claiming works besides that the guild can put buffs on it. The guild gets nothing in return for claiming and holding that structure?

When a guild claims a structure or camp, it means that whatever Art of War buffs they purchased with guild influence can go into effect for that keep (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Art_of_war#Art_of_War). The guild gets the benefit of those buffs, but so do server allies.

A guild who claims a keep does have some incentive to upgrade/defending a claimed structure so that their influence investment is not wasted. But beyond that, they have no more incentive than any other WvW player. So everyone on the server really should pitch in to help upgrade the structure by purchasing upgrades from the Quartermaster and placing/building defensive siege if and when they can. ‘Cause those upgrades and siege plans can get pretty darn expensive (gold sink FTW!). And it’s not really fair to expect one person or one guild to bear the entire burden.

Pish, we aren’t playing victim. Just trying to drum up some recruitment for a coverage gap that we’ve always had (but has become quite obvious again now that ET has a night crew). BTW, it’s absolutely absurd to compare us (a T8 server with little to no night crew) to Jade Quarry (a T1 server who, um, has solid night coverage).

Yes, we’re winning. But this nightcapping business does just set back our server rating and delays us from clawing our way out of the T8 ditch. For folks who are so eager to get rid of us, you guys seem pretty intent on keeping us around.

I’d be good to see FC get some more nighttime love as well (just don’t go and get more than us!). Anything to give that new ET night crew something to fight against. It must be such a bore fighting against doors and guards all the time. :p

We’ll just say Manoa’s been playing her necromancer a lot lately. Given recent events, it felt appropriate to bring this thread back since it’s still incredibly relevant. Perhaps even more so now. We’ve always struggled with night coverage, but are in need of Oceanic players more than ever now that ET has a gotten a night crew.

Sorrow’s Furnace is still seeking some Oceanic love! Things have greatly improved for SF since Banjo’s OP and we’ve been dominating our tier for over a month now. We’ve been making a push to break out of T8 into T7, but we now have a new challenge to overcome…ET nightcapping.

SF does a very good job at taking over and holding points during the daytime hours. By the the time I go to bed (12pm PST), we’ll have all (or most) of EB and a large portion of our opponents’ BL (in addition to our own BL of course). But by the time 6am PST rolls around, most of our holdings outside of our own BLs will have been nightcapped away from us. ET recently became the beneficiary of a night crew and has been nightcapping like crazy…it’s one of the primary reasons for our rating backslide last week (despite us winning by landslide). And this new development is delaying our rise out of T8 (for servers who keep saying they to see us leave T8, they sure to seem intent on keeping us around! :p ).

So, SF is looking to fill that coverage gap and is seeking some defensive Oceanic WvW players (or anyone who happens to play in that time slot) to help us retain our holdings. As Banjo said, we have cookies! And if cookies aren’t your thing, we have cake and pie too!

Impossible achievements?

Will ANet comment on the achievability of these titles?

I think this question was asked at the Seattle M&G last Friday. I overheard during the Q&A something to the effect that the original intent of these achievements was to be super rare. But the audio system was inadequate and it was impossible to hear the exact question and all the details with the answer. So sadly, I can’t provide much more detail than this. (hopefully the video that was recorded of the M&G Q&A will be posted soon)

I agree, Ultimate Dominator is reasonable if not too easy. 500k kills would be more reasonable, and the other achievements should of course be brought in line with this.

When you think of it, 86 WvW kills per day is not hard at all for a dedicated player.

More like for a T1 player. In T1 fights you can rack up 30+ kills in a few minutes of zerg battles. Might be a little harder for a T8 player to get that many.

Just remember all, the math I presented above is what you need to do each and every day for 8 years straight to get those achievements. As in, EVERY, SINGLE day. No vacations, no weekends, no holidays, no taking a break from the game for any reason. If you miss any days from playing WvW or fall short of what’s needed on any particular day, you’ll have to accomplish above those numbers to get those WvW titles in 8 years time.

I’ll just say my employer is far more generous with time off.

and some are saying that the server is shout down before it happens it most likely is for defending and attacking SM but some servers of other MMORPG’s have been running in more then 8 years meaning that GW2 can also run that long time

I get that the WvW titles are meant to be acquired over the lifetime of the game and are meant to be rare. But let’s look at what a WvWer is needs to accomplish on a daily basis to get those WvW titles if GW2 lasts for 8 years (which I’d like to think there are pretty good odds that this will happen).

Eight years at 365 days per year means we have 2,920 days. But we have two leap years in there, so let’s add an additional 2 days onto our total number of days to account for leap years (resulting in a total of 2,922 days for our 8 year lifespan).

A WvWer would need to accomplish the following each and every day in order to get the WvW titles (for those titles where the requirements are posted to the Wiki)…

*Ultimate Dominator - 250,000 ÷ 2,922 days = 86 WvW kills needed per day

*Ultimate Interceptor - 1,000,000 ÷ 2,922 days = 342 Yak kills needed per day

*Ultimate Chaperone - 500,000 ÷ 2,922 days = 171 Caravan escorts needed per day

*Ultimate Fabricator - 2,500,000 ÷ 2,922 days = 856 Supply uses needed (57-86 builds needed per day, depending on if you’re grabbing from an upgraded supply camp or not)

*Ultimate Technician - 1,000,000 ÷ 2,922 days = 342 Supply uses needed for repairs (23-34 builds dedicated to just repairs needed per day, depending on if you’re grabbing from an upgraded supply camp or not)

*Ultimate Besieger - 1,000,000 ÷ 2,922 days = 342 Supply uses needed for building siege (23-34 builds dedicated to just building siege needed per day, depending on if you’re grabbing from an upgraded supply camp or not)

When you look at it on a daily basis, you can see that some of those WvW titles have some pretty hardy (perhaps even impossible) requirements, even for the most dedicated of WvW players.

No matter how much SF wins by the math will keep them in T8 unless there is some miracle in T7.

That’s what it is looking like. We lost 53 rating last match (even though we were still winning by a landslide) and at this point, are projected to loose another 12 this week (even though we’re, again, still winning by a landslide). Totally demoralizing to win by a wide margin and be rewarded by a complete backslide because Glicko placed an unrealistic expectations on our server.

This is the reason why my boyfriend has dubbed T8 the “Glicko Ghetto” (and I’m totally picking it up and running with it). Please don’t get the wrong impression, that nickname is NOT meant to imply that the folks we’re playing are ghetto-tastic or anything! It just means the math is just so incredibly stacked against anyone who ends up here that no matter how well you do, escape from T8 is pretty much impossible.

(Really, who comes to a Q&A to have their own side conversations?… but I digress.)

To be fair…

1. It was advertised as a M&G, not a Q&A. So folks came to do do meetin’ and greetin’ with the devs and their fellow players. The Q&A was an unexpected perk. Those who were having their side conversations (which was the vast majority of the room) didn’t come to a Q&A with the purposeful intent to talk and ruin other people’s fun.

2. Those who attended tried their best to be quiet and listen at the beginning of the Q&A. But unfortunately, the sound system just was completely inadequate for the Q&A and pretty much the entire room could not hear anything whatsoever (questions and answers). Even those at the very front (like who were in line for the Q&A) couldn’t hear anything. So everyone gave up and went back to what they were doing before the Q&A (meetin’ and greetin’ with their fellow players). They talking to be jerks. With the lack of the option of being able to listen and/or participate in the Q&A, they made do with the only option available to them.

Hopefully, next time the sound system used will be a bit more up to the task so such things don’t happen again.

Sharing my posts from the other M&G thread (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Community-Meet-and-Greet)…

I haven’t seen anything yet, but hope it gets posted as well. The sound system wasn’t all that great for the Q&A and it was pretty much impossible to hear any of the questions or answers. My boyfriend was in the line for questions (sadly the line was cut off before he could ask his question) and said that even he couldn’t hear anything from the Q&A line (which is about as good as it possibly could get as far as positioning in the room). The vast majority of the room just gave up trying to hear anything and went back to meetin’ and greeting with their fellow players during the Q&A session. Hope they post it so we can finally hear what the players asked and the ArenaNet folks shared!

The only bit from the Q&A that I was really able to hear (somewhat) was the first two question in the session. The first was a question about the new guild missions and the barrier to entry for small tightly-knit guilds due to the high influence cost. It sounded like there was some explanation about what the original intent was for the guild mission system (but couldn’t really make it out), but I did hear the bit where the ANet folks acknowledged that they are well aware of the feedback and are looking into it. There was also a question about female roles in Charr society and it sounded like the answer was pretty much an explanation of the story of Kalla Scorchrazor. Beyond that, I just couldn’t hear a darn thing.

We just need a few days for the scores to start to effect the ratings and NSP is really started to pull ahead in T7

Sf is losing rating again (along with NSP). But we still at second day…

We talk, but we never update the scores… We have people that problably aren’t on game too:

What the … mate. I saw the scores this morning and it was like SF 27 ET 12 FC 10, and SF was looking to gain like 20 points. I look at it now, with SF 38, ET 19, FC 18, and SF is looking to lose 10 points.

That’s some crazy right there.

This is madness…

Welcome to the Glicko Ghetto. Where everything to do with the score is topsy-turvey and there is just no way to escape.

I expected a “This is sparta” or similar response… This will have to do it…

That wouldn’t be an appropriate response for anyone coming from my server. You’ll need someone from one of the outnumbered servers to pitch in with that response.

Last week, the diference between SF and ET was 252,007. Thus you won 27.571 rating.
This week, the diference between SF and ET is only 125,013 (so far), and you’re not reaching nearly close the last score. Thus, glicko think you got worse and will reduce your rating.

That’s precisely the problem though. Glicko has placed an unrealistic expectation on our server. And because we are not achieving the same margin as last week, Glicko thinks we’re “underachieving” and penalizes us for us. Even though we’re still winning by an incredibly healthy margin (and have been for over a month). And because the scores of our opposition are so depressed, one week of supposed “under performing” sucks our score down tremendously.

If we’re still winning by a healthy margin, yet are loosing the MORE rating than every single NA server (including those coming in THIRD place), there’s something clearly wrong with the system.

I’ve never seen a better illustration of “kittened if we do, kittened if we don’t.”

This week’s WvW scores really does illustrate how broken the system is. The score spreads are pretty darn similar across all the matches this week with wins by very wide margins across the board.

Yet SF is the only server who is so heavily penalized for curbstomping their opposition. Why is SF projected to lose -48 this week while every other curbstomping server is projected to gain rank (or stay relatively even)? Because we’ve been curbstomping our opposition so heavily for the last month, but we didn’t curbstomp nearly as much as we did last week. So the scoring system penalizes us because we’re not meeting its expectation for keeping up the same wide margin or continuing to widen that margin (an unrealistic expectation). And because ET and FC’s scores are so ridiculously low, our score get sucked down quite drastically when we don’t meet Glicko 2’s expectations.

Totally fun to loose so much rank when you are still winning by a landslide. Especially when you look at the deltas for the other servers and see that you are loosing the same amount of rank as servers who are coming in third place in their tiers.

I don’t know if it was SF lacking numbers the last few days (because boredom is a prevalent issue for many SF WvW’ers), or what, but yeah I don’t want to sink ratings again and be stuck here for another month or two if we can’t keep up the fights we’ve had.

^That pretty much sums it up, not that we are quitting WvW, we are pretty much leveling up alts, doing some dungeons, and getting some basics done.

For a little history, SF landed in T8 at the beginning of January. GoM was dominating T7 and it was a tossup whether it would be us or HoD who would drop down into T8. We narrowly lost to HoD that week and fell into T8.

We narrowly lost our first T8 match, narrowly won our second T8 match and have been having blowout matches ever since. We have been having blowout matches for a solid MONTH now with no end in sight. Why are we still in T8? Because our rating score got sucked down into the T8 abyss due to the crazy low scores of our opposing servers. And we still have yet to claw our way out of the T8 score trap.

In this match, SF is WELL in the lead (again). Yet we are currently projected to LOOSE points this week. Why? Because our opposition is picking up a wee bit of steam and the blowout isn’t at the magnitude of what it was last week. We’re not winning by as much as we did last week, but the score is still a blowout. However, because Glicko projected continued improvement for SF (which is an impossible expectation to meet), it penalizes us if we don’t meet its expectations. Even though we’re still winning by a VERY healthy margin, we’re “underperforming” according to Glicko.

The math is broken, plain and simple. No server should have to curbstomp their opposition for well over a month to qualify to move up to the next tier. And no server should fear a ratings loss when they are curbstomping the opposition. Curbstomping isn’t “underperforming.” We’ve already proved (for 5 weeks straight!) that we should be in a tier above T8. We should get that chance.

For me, not to identify. And hoard like crazy. I’m hoping to one day craft The Bifrost.

While flattering that some folks think we’re a T5-6 server, I have to strongly disagree with this premise. Some of us were around when SF was in those tiers, remember what it was like in those tiers, and have an inkling of what it would take to be competitive in those tiers. We simply do not have the numbers, the time zone coverage, or the tactics to be able to be competitive in those tiers yet. If we continue getting folks involved in WvW and improving our cooperation and tactics, we may one day have a shot. But as we are right now, I feel that we’re far from ready for T5 or T6.

In my opinion, t8 rankings need more attention

TTA is in Borlis and WZ is not doing well either.. almost everyone in FC has had their morale completely obliterated. In fact, after I transferred and went to WvW, I was whispered by several friends who were asking why I would waste my time in WvW for the t8 matchup before I explained that I moved.

I’m so sorry to hear this Moobs. This was my fear when ArenaNet backpedaled on their decision to reset the WvW ratings and am really saddened to actually see it coming to pass. Things will sort themselves out in time my bum.

No server should have to go what you guys have went through for so incredibly long. And nobody should feel so demoralized that they feel the only option for WvW is to change servers. The free server transfers went on for far too long and sadly, I think whatever fixes ArenaNet comes up with to fix the Tier 8 ratings pit (if they actually ever do so) will be too little too late for many Tier 8 players.

Rating Reset needed!

While I feel that SOMETHING needs to be done to fix the Tier 8 point pit, I don’t think that resetting the ratings for all servers is the way to go about it.

That said, please fix the Tier 8 ratings issue ArenaNet! SF has been in Tier 8 since the beginning of the year and has been curbstomping our opposing servers for a solid month now. Who the heck knows how long we will have to continue to curbstomp before we can finally break out of Tier 8. SF is frustrated, our opposition is frustrated, and the WvW populations on FC and ET are suffering greatly because of it (further exacerbating the population issue).

“Things will sort themselves out in time” is not a solution. The math obviously breaks down in Tier 8 and it’s well past time that something be done to fix this issue. No server should have to have to curbstomp for well over a month of solid in order to move up to another tier. And no server should have to be on the receiving end of curbstomping for that long.

There is a lot of good discussion and plenty of solid suggestions here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/In-my-opinion-t8-rankings-need-more-attention.

Communication: Stepping into our BL for the first time was a little overwhelming. No one was talking at all, I had no idea where to go or what do do. I had to google a bunch of WvW guides to get the basics down. I’ve seen other servers talk about using a server based TS so everyone could communicate. Does SF have this as well?

There are some on SF who use voice chat software, but it seems to me that the majority of our communication does tend to be in map chat (since not everyone uses voice chat). If you enter a WvW zone and the map chat is silent, try checking the other maps. A silent map chat usually means most of the action is on another map.

IT’S STORY TIME! (Should be interesting for all of you. — It’s about SF coordination)

My buddy and I decided we wanted to ninja Hills in FC borderlands from ET. I threw two catas down at west outer wall, and we both ran supply to get them up. It was time-consuming, but we really wanted to ninja this place because it was upgraded and seiged well, thus serving to be a difficult place to cap with a zerg.

We then began hitting outer wall, which was reinforced. It went down after several minutes, and then we started hitting the inner wall as well. Now, all this time, we had been updating /t chat with wall percentages and such, and we had warned them that we would need a bunch of them to help us kill lord room. So we get the inner wall down and tell everybody that we need reinforcements to help us cap the lord room.

One person showed up.

It was many, many minutes before ET showed up and destroyed our catas, killing us and repairing the walls in the process. It was baffling, considering all of that time I had been essentially spamming /t chat with “Please come help us at west Hills outer wall, we have inner wall down and just need to cap the lord room”

So yes, we failed. I brushed it off and thought that perhaps nobody showed up because there wasn’t many on this map. But then, just a few minutes after, I went to the 6 o’clock camp and saw our zerg capping it. I thought, where were all of these guys when I needed them?!

That is the people of Sorrow’s Furnace for you. You give them a golden platter full of experience, karma, and a shiny new keep that could really help us out, and nobody cares. It was so uncoordinated that it looked like bots, seeing red or blue on the map and savagely rushing toward it without any type of strategy.

Even as an SF I could realize that the real winners of this match are ET and FC. This is not treachery, this is simply a call to action. We seriously need to improve our coordination.

Please share this on our server forums so we can work on making things better.

It looked Epic, but it didn’t feel Epic.

That make sense? I admired the art and the beauty of it all, the chaos and the way Zhaitan held on to the tower. However, when it came down to it, you didn’t really do anything “epic” with your character.

That’s how I felt about Zhaitan. Not to mention the battles against his three champions felt far more challenging and epic than the encounter against Zhaitan himself.

Well, if you don’t like the matchup, why don’t you switch? I mean it’s not like it’s a lot of gold or anything? The evidence points to a certain conclusion.

It doesn’t necessarily point to a certain conclusion. I (like others in SF) find the match stale, am fed up with the negativity in this tier, and am frustrated that we’re stuck in Tier 8 for who knows how much longer. I won’t even consider transferring to FC or ET. Not because I “enjoy winning” and “like it the way it it.” But because I’ve been on Sorrow’s Furnace since BWE1 and SF is my home. I’m not leaving SF no matter what. For good or ill.

Believe it or not I do have some friends on ET and when they capture ETO would like to be able to get a few of them through the JP. Hope my fellow SF players will help me if they are in the puzzle.

I am familiar with this jumping puzzle thing you speak of. If you see me online when this happens, feel free to /whisper me. I’ll be more than happy to come help.
