*Dmg/Armor vs Guards most popular initial WvW ability [wtf?]
Because it’s cheap, so of course it’s going to be the most “popular” initially. I’m willing to bet the supply increase is going to ultimately be the most popular ability; however, it can’t be the most popular immediately post-patch because many folks are still saving up for it.
Henge of Denravi
I’m not entirely sure on what the situation In t8 is but I’m seeing FC and ET doing better, so great job guys!
It’s called “free server transfers to medium population servers.” ET and FC qualified and got some T1/T2 guilds. SF did not qualify for any server transfers.
Yeah irk? Poor outnumbered SF…. LMAO
I’m not claiming we’re outnumbered and was not looking for sympathy. Just pointing out why the T8 scores are a bit more even this week to someone who is not familiar with the reason why.
I’ll be okay with the server transfers so long as most of the people who transferred to ET and FC stay and keep up the interesting, competitive fights. Everyone in this tier is learning something new this week. But I swear, if all those new transfers decide to move back to their T1/T2 servers, I’m going to be quite irritated. It’ll mean that our severe rating backslide this week will be for absolutely nothing. And it will have given severely underpopulated servers who desperately needed WvWers a lot of false hope.

We should just create one big SF/ET/FC match thread titled “1/4/13-??? – T8 SF/ET/FC.” :p
Henge of Denravi
What is this queue you speak of? Must be so nice for your server to not struggle with population and actually have so many folks interested and involved in WvW.
No offense but this is funny coming from SF since you guys are curbstomping FC and ET due to your massive numbers.
First, who said I was referring to my server when I was talking about struggling WvW population? Second, FC and ET just got a huge infusion of WvWers due to free transfers and the fights are FAR more competitive now. Third, unlike higher level servers, all of the T8 servers (including SF) just don’t have the WvW population to see action on all of the WvW maps, even during prime time.
Honestly, given all of the bandwagoners that piled onto the higher rated servers during free transfers and the WvW population struggles and glicko rating issues that the lower tier servers now face as a result, I can’t help but get out the wee little violin for someone from a T1 server posting multiple threads to whine about queue times.

Calling anyone from VK a fair eather player is just nonsense, they would’ve picked SF if that was case.
Transfers to SF weren’t free. But seriously, if they were fair weather, they would have gone for a higher rated server (i.e. HoD and ET).
Henge of Denravi
I just hope FC doesn’t get utterly demoralizated if their “reinforcement” will really leave… That will just break T8 even more.
As so I. I was really saddened for FC to hear that some of their new arrivals were actually planning on leaving to go back to their former tier all along. I know I’d be crushed.
Henge of Denravi
If You had gotten over yourself a month ago, you would have been gone.
Ludicrous. True, we can most certainly do better tactics-wise. But the rating system expecting us to wins by 200K+ margins 100% of the time is a completely unrealistic expectation. No other tier requires such margins for over 9 weeks straight to break into the next tier. Thanks to Glicko, we would have still been here, no matter what our performance.
P.S. Constantly telling players from a particular server that they suck isn’t advice. The posts from [VK] is some good, solid, constructive feedback that we can actually take into consideration.

(edited by Manoa.5897)
Well yeah, I’m kinda tired of T8 =(
You can go to HoD…
Not anymore. Last I checked (this morning before work), HoD had increased in population server was now a “high” population server.
I’m willing to bet that SF will loose rating during next week’s match. Ah T8 Glicko Ghetto, our “home sweet home.”

Spent nearly 2k badges and and about 11g yesterday to re-gear my mes for WvW. Opted to spend another 7g for Sylvari T2 cultural armor because the existing WvW armor skins are ugly as sin (not to mention my mes looks sweet in that cultural set).
Henge of Denravi
Eh. I’m ok with the idea that the Glicko Ghetto (such a funny term) is being looked into. Thanks loads.
Credit for “Glicko Ghetto” goes to my boyfriend, who came up with the term during the GW2 Seattle M&G. I loved it so much that I totally stole it and started using it in all the T8 threads. We’re both thrilled to see the term actually caught on here on the forums.
Henge of Denravi
Yes, we’re looking into it. In fact, we had a meeting just today about scoring/rating/matchmaking issues!
N.B. That meeting was already scheduled to occur before we got the cookies.
<3 Seriously, thank you from the bottom of my heart Habib! This news has completely and utterly made my day!
Now I don’t feel so bad about not being able to corner Mike during the Seattle M&G to pose this question.
Henge of Denravi
Soooo…since you ANet guys are all sweetened up (cookies for the win) and are already here, you guys looking into any prospects for fixing the Glicko Ghetto? We don’t need much, a simple “yes we’re looking into it” or “no, not at this time, but it’s on a list” kind of thing would mean a lot to us T8 folks. Inquiring minds want to know!
Henge of Denravi
Have you tried using the linking system? As in, shift click a POI at a tower, or a WP in a keep.
People catch on to the attack/defend idea or whatever is needed pretty quickly with that.We have a large spanish speaking population on my server, and we get through the language barrier that way sometimes.
Just a thought.^^ This. Keep in mind that the place names have different names depending on the language settings. For example, Dreadfall Bay is Bahía Salto Aciago in Spanish, Baie du Noir déclin in French, and Schreckensfall-Bucht in German. Shadaran Hills is Colinas Shadaran in Spanish, Collines de Shadaran in French, and Shadaran-Hügel in German.
So if you just type stuff like “Bay” and “Hills” in /map or /team chat, a non-English speaker may not know what you are referring to. When you link the POIs and WPs, the game automatically translates the names to the other languages. It’s MUCH easier to work through the language by linking POIs and WPs instead of just typing the names/nicknames.
The asian commanders on Dragonbrand tend to know enough English to use basic keywords like “push”, “stack”, “hide”, etc. and link waypoints pretty frequently. In addition to listing their commands in WhateverAsianDialectTheyUse as well.
You obviously don’t get a full breakdown of their strategy in teamchat, but it’s enough to follow them and be useful.
If the Polish people on Blacktide refuse to do this, I would not consider them good teammates to begin with.
If you’re on the unofficial Polish server, why not try to learn a little Polish so you can figure out what’s going on? Because it works both ways. If you’re on a server with two primary languages, both demographics should reach out to the other and try to pick up the basics of each other’s language. On Sorrow’s Furnace, the English speakers link locations for the Spanish speakers. And the Spanish speakers link locations for the English speakers. We have some amazing Latino commanders who know English and are able to bridge the gap. And us English speakers have also made attempts to poorly translate commands using tools like Google Translate.
When both sides refuse to bridge the gap, it just makes it even more difficult to work together. I’m thrilled to be on Sorrow’s Furnace, as it gives me an opportunity to brush up my Spanish. Perhaps you can treat this as an opportunity to learn a little Polish?

A shockingly bad idea. Please please, especially for us color-blind people
Seriously curious: how does your color-blindness impact the visibility of the name/title display?
I could see how it would be a struggle for red/green colorblind folks. The invader text is red. The new “no culling” stand in models are green or red, depending on the side. If the title text (a neutral white, which is easily visible to the red/green colorblind) goes away, having only the red invader text and red or green stand-in models make it very difficult (or even impossible, depending on the magnitude of a person’s colorblindness) for red/green colorblind folks to see invaders on the map.

I was thinking about this yesterday because I remembered patch day = get well soon cookie delivery day. Hope Mike and Habib enjoyed the cookies and are feeling better.
Henge of Denravi
It wouldn’t be nearly as obnoxious if 1) the title text size was smaller, 2) some titles weren’t so kitten long (“God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals” being the worst offender), and 3) we had the option to turn viewing of titles off.
WvW is a sea of alphabet soup now and it’s pretty annoying.

lol@sf posting screens of our entire population (et and fc) at our own BL. pretty bad when thats everyone we got and ur still able to man enough ppl to assault both borderlands and eb. please i know what the screens are about. our zergs are still small compared to yours. urban dictionary FGA cuz ur doing it right (or should i say wrong)
LOL calm down, take deep breaths. Nobody is trying to say SF doesn’t field way more numbers, they are just shots of ET’s and FC’s zerg <— NOTE: That is singular… I fully admit that we have multiple zergs roughly the same size as your one large zerg, so calm down and don’t be so camera shy.
^^ This. My zerg shots and comment weren’t a swipe at our opponents and I was NOT in any way, shape or form trying to make a case you guys have more than us (yet, let’s see how those free transfers pan out at the end of the week ). I just honestly I haven’t seen zergs (on our side or our enemies’ sides) this large in a very, VERY long time. It was good to see ALL sides fielding such large numbers last night and it was a lot of fun. Hope all these new folk decide to stick around.
Stop taking offense where none was intended and let’s have some fun out on the battlefield!
Henge of Denravi
(edited by Manoa.5897)
I seriously haven’t seen zergs like this since our days in T5 (way back when).
Henge of Denravi
I meant all the dog piling that happened to SF after their first week, which ruined T8. There would be nothing wrong with T8 if SF had remained the same size it was in that first week.
O.o Didn’t Kain and DR dogpile on you as well? As I said, the mess was here well before we dropped into the tier.
Henge of Denravi
It’s really tempting to leave SF in the mess they made.
And what mess are you referring to? Do you mean the one that was already here when we dropped into T8?
THANK YOU ANET FOR RUINING OUR SERVER.
So many transfers we now have queues. I have long been outspoken about people wanting transfers to come to our server when people would post it. We had it rough but we had a good place. I didn’t transfer to kaineg because I didn’t want to be on a huge server.
Son of a kitten!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I will have to leave the server I enjoyed to go to a bottom tier 8 server once this one sky rockets up. GAH i’m so mad right now.
What’s the old saying? “Be careful what you wish for, because you might just get it?”
Henge of Denravi
ANet pulls the rug out from under Sorrow’s Furnace by giving free server transfers to our enemies (ET/FC) and the very server we’ve been ever so desperately trying to swap places with (HoD). Two bloody months of effort completely down the drain. Thanks ArenaNet for this lovely “reward” for our efforts!
So what I get from this is that you care more about SF leaving T8 than you do about making T8 more competitive.
I want to see the frickin’ math fixed. No server should have to dominate for TWO MONTHS straight just for the sliver of a hope to go up a tier. No server who is dominating for TWO MONTHS straight should fear risk of LOOSING rating if they “underperform,” yet still dominate. No server should have to hope for TWO MONTHS straight that a higher ranked server fails so utterly that they drop into the tier, because that’s the only hope you have of bumping up to the next tier (no matter how well you perform). And no server should endure domination for TWO MONTHS for the sliver of a hope that they get to see some different competition that may help their tier be more competitive.
This doesn’t FIX the problem. It just PERPETUATES the problem and shifts the problem to different servers.
I do want to see T8 become more competitive for the sake of our opponents (and our server, since we’re now stuck here indefinitely). But I most certainly didn’t want to see two months worth of effort completely flushed down the drain either.
Henge of Denravi
(edited by Manoa.5897)
There were so many good ideas from players on how to fix the Glicko Ghetto, the best of which were a soft rating reset and setting a ceiling/floor on the ratings. Instead, ArenaNet reintroduces free server transfers, which was what caused the problem in the first place.
To say I’m miffed is a complete understatement. There are only three NA servers who will benefit from this free offer…ET, FC and HoD. Our server has been busting their kittens and dominating the T8 for TWO months straight to claw our way out of the Glicko Ghetto and break out of T8 into T7. When the end is finally somewhat in our sight, ANet pulls the rug out from under Sorrow’s Furnace by giving free server transfers to our enemies (ET/FC) and the very server we’ve been ever so desperately trying to swap places with (HoD). Two bloody months of effort completely down the drain. Thanks ArenaNet for this lovely “reward” for our efforts!
ArenaNet, free server transfers CAUSED the Glicko Ghetto problem. It’s not going to fix it. It just shifts the problem to other servers.
P.S. It’ll be rather interesting to see how things pan out across the pond in EU…the strongest EU WvW server is reportedly a medium population server. When will ANet wrap their heads around the fact that overall server population does not necessarily correlate to WvW population? Considering server transfers pretty much only relate to WvW now that guesting is in effect, transfer prices (and free transfer offers) should always have been based on WvW ranking, not overall server population.
Henge of Denravi
Free transfers are back… well, there goes leaving T8 in a week or two. We are likely stuck in this matchup for months to come now.
Best case scenario, the med population servers get just the right amount of transfers to make T8 a bit more competitive and becomes fun for all. Worst case scenario, the med population servers get a surge of WvWer transfers and Sorrow’s Furnace becomes the new bottom kitten.
Whatever the case, our chances of breaking out T8 into T7 are completely hosed. Because even if ET and FC don’t get transfers, HoD likely will.
Two months…two frickin’ months of dominating…all for nothing. Get cozy SF boys and girls, T8 just became our new permanent home.
At this point, just hoping for the best case scenario and this free server crap doesn’t cause us to become the new 24.
Henge of Denravi
(edited by Manoa.5897)
My biggest hope for tomorrow’s patch is for ANet to stand down from their ill-conceived “free transfers to medium pop servers” fiasco and actually FIX the T8 Glicko Ghetto problem (by adding a floor and a ceiling to the ratings).
Won’t happen, but a girl can dream.
Henge of Denravi
So much rage at ArenaNet right now. Instead of actually fixing the Glicko Ghetto, they instead give free transfers to our T8 enemies and the T7 server that we’ve been trying desperately to swap places with. So this is our “reward” for dominating for 2 months straight? Such bullkitten.
Bullkitten is the fact that everyone will chose HoD over ET/FC… T7 having the most balanced matches these weeks will most likely attract people there, while HoD grows and SF stay on Glicko Ghetto get longer…
HoD isn’t suposed to be open for free transfer… I’d rather open it for SF.
Here’s the most glorious part of this free transfers to medium servers crap…
Do you people even check what the situation is in EU before making these decision? The currently strongest EU server is Medium population, guess what free tranfers there could potentially do to the hint of balance we have in T1 atm?
When will ANet wrap their heads around the fact that overall server population does not necessarily correlate to WvW population? Considering server transfers pretty much only relate to WvW now that guesting is in effect, transfer prices (and free transfer offers) should always have been based on WvW ranking, not overall server population.
Henge of Denravi
makes face at SF
nyah! For the next week, all the medium population servers will be free to transfer to. Might be worth giving one of them a look!

Wow…just wow. There are three medium population NA servers…HoD, FC and ET. SF (a “Very High” population server) has been working their tails off to swap places with HoD and move up from T8 into T7 and have been dominating and crushing our tier for TWO months now. Yet no matter how hard we try and no matter how much we dominate, we have been unable to escape the Glicko Ghetto math.
So THIS is your solution to the Glicko Ghetto??? To give our T8 opponents and the T7 server we’ve been trying desperately to swap places with for 2 months straight a surge of free transfers? Unbelievable.

I’m assuming that when they indicate the gear can be combined racial skins, they’re referring to the racial weapon skins (which are purchasable with karma). If the whole items that were “previously only purchasable with karma” holds true for all the new gear that is being added, then T3 cultural armor will not be available.
Henge of Denravi
This is weird if they add karma-only stuff.
We already have millions of karma, whats the point of adding more karma stuff to WvW even if they are now buyable with badges ?
Not to mention that one of the karma exotic armor stat sets is ALREADY available for purchase via badges. If they only add Magi’s and Rabid exotic armor (the two remaining exotic karma armor sets) and nothing else, I’m going to be sorely disappointed. Especially since the interview indicated “Knight’s, Carrion, Cleric, Berserker’s, etc.” among the stat sets available.
Henge of Denravi
And please Manfred I am sick of your drama in ET don’t bring it here in the forums.
If you need. The Eredon Terrace Forums will be glad to provide you a place to post your drama and rage.
^^ Yes, please take it to your server forum. This thread is reserved for bickering, drama and rage between SF, ET and FC.
Henge of Denravi
With your badges you’ll first buy one component (the stats: Knight’s, Carrion, Cleric, Berserker’s, etc.) and then a second component (the visual look: racial skins, and so forth). Later on, if you decide you want the same stats, but a different look, you just buy a new skin and recombine them. It’s a lot like item transmuting, but for WvW bought gear.
I’ve been looking at buying a set of Knights gear for my mes…SO glad I waited!

I think I’m talking to nothing at this point
I guess, there’s always an excuse for the losing teams.
being severely outmanned is pretty legit.
Severely being the keyword… other than Fridays and on our own BL, I’ve never had to queue for WvW. You guys should make a video and record how long you have the outmanned buff on your characters to show us first hand on an average day how out manned you are. If you notice a difference of 5-10 people does not give you the outmanned buff. Unless you have that buff on – it’s L2P and trust me,m I’ve fought many of you guys and I don’t regularly see that buff on.
Anet released a statement saying the buff was broken, not sure if it has been fixed yet

I gotta say.. I do admit that I find it funny that people jumped to SF in some hope that it would pull a Kain right before Free Transfers ended, only to end up still stuck here on the Bottom Rung.
It seems they are not as good as they think they are, and as long as the map looks like this, they will never get out.
I can’t speak on the motivations of those who transferred. But it should be noted that while we did receive transfers just before free server transfers ended, we didn’t get NEARLY the number of transfers that Kain did. Kain got enough transfers to overcome the rating math and fling themselves out of the Glicko Ghetto. We didn’t.
Henge of Denravi
With the news that HoD is getting stronger (since the match is being pretty close), I can securely say that SF is stuck with us until IoJ reach the border of the abyss (that’s it… if IoJ is really dead)…
Looks like that’s the case. Well, get cozy folks, we’re going to have to put up with each other for a lotta bit longer.
Henge of Denravi
Anyway, I was originally going to grind the jump puzzles for the badges (leading to my n00b posts) but I found running in zergs more fun (although I still like the puzzles), and I’m not going to switch servers for my map completion anytime soon, because I like my Ferguson’s Crossing friends. See you on the Eternal Battlegrounds.
I <3 this spirit.
Henge of Denravi
I disagree that it’s PvE only. I do this daily on my chars, it takes a few minutes to get my Mes up and then I invite guild members to come as I port them and their alts up, usually then someone rotates out and I port my alts up.
2-5 minutes for ~20 badges, 2+ siege weapons, and a chance at rare loot (i.e. precursor), is far faster method of obtaining those rewards than just killing players in maps; especially when the enemy is lacking in numbers and is hardly anywhere to be found.
….and what you just described is not purely PvE.. How?
Meh, there’s nothing wrong with purely PvE tasks in WvW. The devs have always indicated their intent for WvW was to be a blend of PvE and PvP. If folks want to do some of the PvE tasks that are available in WvW, all the power to them. But no whining and complaining if PvP happens while doing PvEs in WvW.
Henge of Denravi
Seriously though, the reason people do the JPs is because a legendary requires 500 badges of honor.
I don’t. I do the JP because 1) I can, 2) I know how to do it quickly, 3) the EB JP is my fave JP in the game, 4) it’s fun, and (most importantly) 5) free siege. If I see an invader in the puzzle, I’ll leave them alone. If I can tell the invader is new to the puzzle, I’ll do my best to help them through and teach them the puzzle. But the invader tries to come at me, it’s on.
I used to lend a sympathetic ear to the JP camping/ganking posts in these forums, as I can certainly understand the frustration. But I have to admit that it got super tired of typing the same exact post with the same exact advice several times a week. Hence, JP Kitten was born. :-/
Henge of Denravi
Alright, I’ll go with “jump puzzles = still pvp,” but please don’t kill someone in the middle of the bow animation. If they bow and you don’t want to let them pass, use /threaten and kill them if they don’t run away. They get to not die and you get to not let an enemy get the treasure chest. Everybody wins.
This goes for all servers, including my own, by the way.
If I had a copper for every post in the WvW forum kittening about getting ganked in the WvW JPs, I’d have my Bifrost by now.
EDIT…I notice from your post history that you’re new to the forums and WvW in general. Just a heads up, posts complaining about getting killed in the WvW JPs rarely go over very well on these forums. There have been way too many of these kinds of posts on these forums and folks are tired of hearing the same complaint for something that is perfectly legitimate in a PvP zone. My advice…before you go into the WvW JPs, mentally prepare yourself for the fact that you can and may very likely die during your JP run. I find it helps going in hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. In fact, when you get over the mental hangup about dying in WvW, it makes the whole thing so much more enjoyable and can lead to lots of fun and crazy things .
