wow, we sux bad XD

- 23million caravans destroyed (by players)

- 20million players killed by Risen Thrall

That’s an apples to oranges comparison. More players play PvE than WvW. A better comparison would have been how many Risen Thrall have been killed by players (not provided to us) vs how many players have been killed by Risen Thrall.

“23,470,844 Caravans Destroyed in World vs. World.”

No, you’re doing it wrong.

23+ million caravans destroyed and 3.5 million copies sold = less than 7 caravans destroyed per player account in a full year.

That’s massive stuff, right? Did you kill your 7 caravans yet this year?

That assumes that all 3.5 million accounts have played WvW, which nowhere near reality. Considering the vast majority of the playerbase does not WvW, calculating yak kills on a per account basis skews the average HEAVILY downward. A better gauge would be to see the average kills/WvWer basis rather than on a kills/account basis (sadly, we do not have any stats on how many accounts actually WvW to calculate that average).

“23,470,844 Caravans Destroyed in World vs. World.”

So, one year in and the ENTIRE WvW playerbase has killed enough yaks for the equivalent of 23.47 Yakslapper achievements?

It think that right there goes to show how crazy ridiculous the WvW achievements really are. Glad Devon and his krewe are working on addressing this issue.

Farmers vs Completers

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: Manoa.5897

Manoa.5897

People still need to do achievements believe it or not; so those that farm and hinder event completion aren’t doing the others any favors.

This right here is the reason I see so much bickering in /map. It’s the mistaken belief that you have to successfully bring down Scarlet to get credit for all of the achievements.

There is only one achievement that requires you defeat Scarlet (Scarlet Scrambler), and that will come pretty darn easily if someone does invasions somewhat regularly. The “stop portal invasion” zone achievements only require you to participate and be present in the zone at the end of the event (win or loose, you still get achievement credit). If folks have done multiple invasions and claim they have not gotten credit for all of them, it’s usually a case of them not doing invasions on unique maps or a zone known for bugged completion (like Fireheart).

I found that taking a little time to CALMLY explain in /map what folks actually have to do to get their achievements goes a long way to avoiding/stopping a bunch of bickering between completionists and farmers. When those who are trying to get their achievements know what they actually have to do to get their achievements, they calm down and the situation de-escalates rather quickly.

Educate folks! Don’t bicker!

grab a staff and follow the zerg closing the portals. tag mobs and leech exp. get 4-5 levels and a ton of loot in 30-45 minutes

The invasions are indeed a great way to gain XP (I leveled from 65-80 on my guardian over the weekend via the invasions). But considering all of the invasion events are all in level 25+ zones, I don’t think this particular suggestion is all that helpful to a brand spakin’ new player.

Same here. Frostgorge is the ONLY zone I have left to finish the 13 invasion achievement. Judging from the invasion history on the Wiki, Frostgorge invasions are HEAVILY skewed in the late night and morning hours server time. We’re a week in at this point and given the invasion history so far, I’m not exactly confident Frostgorge will pop at a time that is conducive to a NA player who works standard business hours. :-/

When converting from UTC to server time, those Frostgorge invasions are HEAVILY skewed in the late night/morning hours server time. Hopefully, Frostgorge will start popping at a time so those NA players who can’t afford to stay up all night and work standard business hours will actually be able to get it.

We’re nearly a week in. I have to admit with what we’ve seen so far with the Frostgorge timing, it’s not exactly instilling much hope in “If you play at the same time every day, you will see all 13 maps by the end of the Clockwork Chaos release.”

I get your point, but did you miss the part above where the mail only goes to the first character you log in with after the mail was sent? The mail is not an account-wide mail and there’s NO way to view the mail with the booster, much less accept the booster on another character on your account. Even if he did realize it was soulbound, there’s still no way he would be able to get the booster onto his WvW character.

I got my mail earlier with my WvW booster, but didn’t claim it. When I saw this thread, I logged back in to claim it with my main WvW character to ensure I claimed it on the right character. However, I cannot claim the booster on my WvW character or any other alts, as the mail does not exist for those characters. The ONLY character who can see the mail with the booster (and therefore claim the booster) is the character I was logged in on at the time I received the mail.

GW2... From Innovative to Copy?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Manoa.5897

Next we went on some weird hunger games kick where all the content was pretty much a straight copy from the books… (not an MMO copy but still odd)

Southsun Survival isn’t the first time Hunger Games-esque content has been in the game. The finale event for Beta Weekend Event 3 was Hunger Royale (a cross between Hunger Games and Battle Royale). Southsun Survival has been brought in as a mini-game because those who participated in Hunger Royale have been asking for it to be added to the game since beta.

Southsun Surivival isn’t exactly the same as Hunger Royale (it’s a bit more Hunger Games themed and is far more polished), but I personally think it wonderful that the devs listened to the playerbase and added it to the game.

So technically speaking Ebonhawke is the capital of the Duchy of Ascalon, under Queen Jennah of the Kingdom of Kryta

Player: “I’m sorry, who are you again?”
Commander Samuelsson: “My name’s Commander Samuelsson, and I am the Duke of Ebonhawke.”

Player: “By what authority do you rule this city?”
Commander Samuelsson: “My forefathers were kings of Ascalon, and I’ll be kitten ed if I let those renegades destroy their last legacy!”

Player: “Who are the Ebon Vanguard? Are they part of Kryta?”
Commander Samuelsson: “We are sons and daughters of Ascalon. Jennah is our ally – but not our Queen.”

Today is August 21st.

Nice try

Don’t forget about pre-launch! Pre-launch officially started at 0:00 AM Pacific on August 25th, though the servers were actually brought online about 3 hours earlier than the official pre-launch start time announced (I personally was able to log-in and start creating characters shortly after 9PM Pacific on the 24th).

So basically, the absolute earliest anyone in this game will start seeing the experience scrolls associated with our birthday presents is this Saturday evening.

This. At least, right now, for all that we know.
Unless ANet simply decided to change the lore, which of course they can do anytime. I mean, Jennah’s announcement might include that Ebonhawke was just incorporated to Kryta.
That would explain why the emissary for the crown is from Ebonhawke.

That is an interesting theory. And would make a lot of sense as to why the teaser page was “vandalized.”

But as of now, the terms of the alliance appear to be just “If Ebonhawke agrees to enter into a peace treaty with the Charr, Kryta will provide Ebonhawke with aid.”

I can give you a nice example: the Spanish cities Ceuta and Melilla are located in Morroco but are considered a part of Spain. Gibraltar is located in Spain but is part of the UK. So, Ebonhawke can easily be located in Ascalon and still be considered a part of Kryta if Krytan law etc applies there.

But that’s not the case. Ebonhawke is the last remaining vestige of the human’s presence in Ascalon (i.e. the Ascalonian kingdom) and is a separate political entity from the Krytan kingdom. Royals do not enter into alliances with subjects. They enter into alliances with separate political entities.

Manoa.5897

I’d argue that making the delegate from Ebonhawke rather than Kryta has the potential to make things even MORE confusing to those new to the game. It’s not like you can visit Ebonhawke to get your Krytan daily achievements.

Considering the wording all of the human delegate achievement revolves around Kryta (i.e. “Champion of the Crown,” “Represent Divinity’s Reach in the Crown Pavilion,” etc.), the delegate should have been Krytan, not from Ebonhawke to keep things consistent with the rest of the game.

This game has a rich lore and part of that rich lore is the separate political entities of Ebonhawke and Kryta and the tensions between them. There’s an alliance between the two, but an alliance doesn’t mean Ebonhawke was incorporated into the Krytan kingdom. And having the delegate hailing from Ebonhawk and cheering for the crown ignores that rich history.

It may have been a conscious choice on ArenaNet’s part. But’s still a mistake (a consistency error, albeit a small one) and a bit sloppy.

Minimize expenses and maximize revenue. Typical corporate money sucking greed.

Queue biased Mod infraction + post deletion.

How about some perspective and context instead. The article references NCSoft lay-offs due to CoH and Aion closing doors. The title of the article is merely an eye catcher yet has nothing to do with Guild Wars 2 nor Arena.net.

You are dishonest by implying so.

Exactly. NCSoft’s Seattle office, which houses the headquarters for NCSoft West, is located in the Century Square building in downtown Seattle. It is NOT ArenaNet, which is located in the Sunset North office complex in Bellevue, WA.

The article above refers to the layoffs that impacted the NCSoft West office in downtown Seattle and had no impact on ArenaNet (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Laying-off-workers/first#post931008). As marnick correctly points out, those layoffs had to do with the City of Heroes sunset and Aion’s poor performance. Not Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2.

The entire system was ill-conceived. The travel can at least be circumvented by having someone there to res you when you die, but the queues are a constant reality for any larger server or any popular play hour.

It’s like they didn’t learn their lesson from The Mad King’s Clocktower at all – people don’t want to be forced to wait several minutes to reattempt challenging content that just handed them their kitten . Most of them want to get right back in there and give Liadri or that stupid tower what for.

(And this is coming from someone who successfully completed both).

The difference between the gauntlet and the mad king’s clocktower is any one could participate in the clocktower, you did not have to run from a far waypoint upon failure and movement lag was not a factor.

Gauntlet fails at all three.

And don’t forget that since Mad King’s Clocktower used the sPvP framework, you didn’t have to spend a small fortune to even attempt to complete it.

For me, it was all about Mantra of Distraction. I already had 30 in Domination, so I retraited to Harmonious Mantras to get three dazes out of Mantra of Distraction instead of the default two. I also found Illusionary Wave on the greatsword to be helpful to push the mutt away when he was right on top of the meat. I found the hardest part was pinpointing the animation when Strugar threw the meat. Let your phantasms do the work damage-wise so you can just autoattack and keep an eye on Strugar’s meaty throws. Be sure to keep at least one stunbreaker on your toolbar if you end up having to eat four delicious meats…the fourth will stun you. You may also want to focus on a dps-heavy build. The faster you bring the mutt down, the better. I didn’t have pistol or signet of domination, but they can most certainly help. The more interrupts, the better!

Crap. Deadeye was probably my best (maybe even only shot) at getting the gambit achievements. Yet another example of ArenaNet’s exploit early and exploit often philosophy. Thanks for ruining things for those who haven’t gotten that far yet farmers!

except this wasn’t an exploit, there were no rules being broken.

This was certainly an exploit. An exploit is taking advantage of a bug or loophole and playing the game in a way that was not intended by the developers. Obviously, it was never intended for players to be making hundreds of gold by farming Deadeye. This farming very much had the potential to significantly impact our in-game economy. If it wasn’t considered an exploit, Deadeye would never have been changed.

Good rule of thumb when it comes to identifying exploits…if it is too good to be true, it most certainly is.

but it wasn’t too good to be true, for every 20 gold you made from opening bags, you had to pay 9 gold to buy more entry tickets…

9 gold = 45 tickets. For those doing 5 gambits, that’s 6 tickets per match. At 6 tickets per match, that’s 7.5 matches. With matches lasting at maximum 2 minutes, that’s 15 minutes at most not including queue times (but let’s be honest, most farming matches were far less time than that).

11g net for less than 15 minutes worth of work? And you seriously think this was working as intended?

Umm, what?

5 tickets is 20 silver. 45 tickets would be 1.8g.

9g would be 225 tickets, or a max back-to-back of 450 minutes (7 and a half hours) without gambits. With 5 tickets (4 gambits is now the norm) per match, you can get that down to 90 minutes maximum, not including over-extending match preps.

1) If you want to beat it, you need to retrait if you’re set up incorrectly. Trail and error. Anet’s not gonna tell each player how to play within their skill range. If you do better as a pure Zerker rather than PVT, trail accordingly. Same with armor setups. This challenge wasn’t meant for everyone anyway, so you gotta do what you gotta do in order to win. If that means paying 100 Gold to respec, that’s your choice.

Why does the hardcore zerker crowd always assume if someone is struggling with challenging content, that person must be wearing PVT? For the record, I don’t run PVT on my gauntlet character (and never have).

But with one-shot mechanics, there’s simply no point in players specing for defense whatsoever. Not complaining about the one-shot mechanics, but there’s no denying this content heavily favors glass cannons. After the big hubabbaloo about the devs wanting to encourage build diversity with the big rebalance patch, it’s no surprise that players are frustrated that ANet put in content that favors full zerker builds so heavily. This is Guild Wars 2, not Zerker Wars 2.

As evidenced by sPvP, gear does not equal skill. An event about challenging skilled players should be about skill and knowledge of your profession, not the gear you’re wearing. I wholeheartedly feel that the gauntlet would have been far better implemented in sPvP.

Challenging content is challenging. You take away the challenge, then it becomes a freebie giveaway for a mini and Achievement points.

Making players pay for new gear, retraiting, armor repair, waypointing, and entry tickets is not a challenge. That’s a goldsink.

Making players run a long distance from the waypoint or grind for entry tickets is not a challenge. That’s a timesink.

Making players deal with a confusing registration system and significant FPS drops due to the zerg below is not a challenge. That’s poor planning.

Making players deal with camera glitches and domes not clearing out between matches is not a challenge. Those are game bugs.

Nobody in this thread is calling for scaling the difficulty of the encounters down. Folks in this thread who posted their feedback want the same level of challenge with more polish and less annoyance. The encounters would STILL challenging even if every single one of Crazylegsmurphy’s ideas were implemented.

Anet fully understands that the players are frustrated. But the challenge is designed to push the best players. If people want an easier fight, there’s the Shadow Behemoth, Fire Ele, Shatterer, Jungle Wurm, etc etc. Hard content is hard. Challenging content is challenging. If you can’t do it, or don’t have fun doing it, find another enemy boss to kill.

Guess you missed this part…

Notice I didn’t say anything about the difficulty? I am not here to slam how difficult or challenging it is. Other than the limited time available to learn and beat the fight (remember how we complained about the last dungeon, or the Trials ANet?), it is pretty ok.

The problem is when you add in all these other factors, what could potentially be an amazing activity becomes a long, drawn out, expensive, and frustrating experience for many players.

Most excellent points. I certainly hope ArenaNet takes these to heart.

I think I’d be able to stomach most of these frustrations if it weren’t for the way the gauntlet tickets were implemented. I don’t mind that we have to use them, but do wish they were more plentiful and they remained account bound rather than being changed via patch to soulbound on acquire. I have an abundance of wasted tickets on that I’ll never use because I can’t transfer them to my gauntlet fighter. Which is absolutely frustrating when I’m working on gaining the skill required for these challenges and my learning progress is completely blocked by running out of tickets and have to go back to grind (or even worse, pay 20s + 15 watchwork sprockets) for more tickets. If progress is account-wide, then the entrance tickets should also be account-wide.

The Mad King’s Clocktower is by far still my favorite challenge in the game to date. It was by no means perfect and certainly needed some polish to make things more smooth. But I was able to try again and again and again without punishment until I was able to gain enough skill to get the top. It took me a good solid 6 hours, but I was able to master it without it feeling punishing and it truly felt like an achievement that I could feel proud of (and yes, I still have those shoes in my bank). All it took was time, patience and persistence. And the experience completely transformed me from a JP hater to an avid JP fan.

I wholeheartedly feel this gauntlet concept with one-shot mechanics would have been FAR better suited for the sPvP framework used for the other mini-games. Had they used the sPvP framework like other mini-games, I think it would have felt far less punishing and would have solved a LOT of the problems folks are complaining about.

But I agree, with the 2min timer, you really are forced into a more dps heavy build for most of these fights. I mean I was able to do most of them in my knights gear on my war, but when you can watch videos of people killing the bosses so quickly (liardi in ~1min for example) it shows you that you need to go full zerk (with power weapons) most of the time. That would be fine for some fights, but it would have been nice if other fights favored a bunker build or a condi damage build, etc. (Then again, if that was the case, I’d prefer if we were in PVP and could change our gear for free)

100% agreed. I finally completed Strugar and Chomper this weekend (haven’t worked up the courage to try Liadri yet) on a 30/30/0/0/10 mes with a mix of knight’s and cavalier’s and it was a struggle every single step of the way. I can’t count the number of times I timed out or just couldn’t out DPS the baddies before they downed me (no joke, three of my fights were won off of rallies).

Most of these fights are certainly doable on non-zerk builds, but it’s kitten tough to do it in the time allotted. Given all the guides, posts on these forums and videos, it’s totally clear that the whole thing was balanced around full-zerk gear. With one-shot mechanics, why even bother with anything other than damage, damage, damage?

Given the emphasis on creating more build diversity with the big balancing patch, I have to admit that I find this rather disappointing. It would have been nice if at least some of the fights that were built around non-zerker builds. And I totally agree, if they wanted to get players to play outside the box and test out new builds, doing the gauntlet using the sPvP framework would have been FAR more preferable.

After the T3/T4 candidate trials and now the gauntlet, I’ve decided to invest in a set of full-zerk gear so I can wrap up my gambit achievements, give Liadri the good ol’ college try and continue playing future Zerk Wars 2 content.

After touting the virtues of build diversity with their big balance patch, it’s frustrating and disappointing that ArenaNet throws in achievements that pretty much can only be obtained if you’re full zerker + immobilize. I’m all for difficult content, but this is ridiculous (as is the response we received).

Campaign Banners in LA are Backwards

Someone should have a chat with the staffers with both the Gnashblade and Kiel Campaigns. Most of the campaign banners in Lion’s Arch were hung backwards and we’re actually seeing the mirror image of the campaign banner text.

New Krytan -> English Translation
(Note: Characters are mirror images of the proper New Krytan)

Banner 1 Top Line: rof etov (should be vote for)
Banner 1 Bottom Line: leik (should be Kiel)

Banner 2 Top Line: rof etov (should be vote for)
Banner 2 Bottom Line: nove (Should be Evon)

BTW…if you go into sPVP and equip some of your new PVP armor skins, you’ll be wearing that armor anytime you go into a mini-game that uses the sPVP tech (like Spirit Sanctum).

That is completely inaccurate. The website’s owner is an independent third party with no known ties to any SF guilds or the SF WvW community. You were only moderated once by the website’s owner (not the WvW leaders) for outright attacking another individual/guild. And as explained to you on the website, BOTH sides of that argument were moderated for disrespectful behavior. Inflammatory remarks/accusations against other guilds or players is not welcomed by the website’s owner.

For those who say we should never have gone to the GW2 FB page if we wanted to avoid spoilers…those who were spoiled didn’t actively go to their FB page. The spoiler was in our news feeds mingled among posts from our friends, families and other fav’d pages.

For those who say we should never have clicked on the article or should have just stopped reading…um, yeah. Just TRY doing that when you come across something like the image below (which is from my own FB news feed at 3:05pm yesterday) shows up unexpectedly in your FB news feed mingled among posts from our friends, families and other fav’d pages. The image they posted spoils the whole story all in one glance. There is absolutely no way to halt reading to avoid spoilers when they post an image like that.

Sure, it was pretty obvious from the voice acting. But there was always the possibility that the voice acting was a false lead. Bottom line, the GW2 social media outlets should be reserved for news and news alone. Spoilers =/= news. Posting storyline spoilers (especially without some sort of spoiler alert warning and degree of separation) is just poor form. If we players have to post [SPOILER ALERT] here on the official forums in order to be courteous to other players and avoid moderation, then it should be reasonable to expect the GW2’s social media team should have to do the same.

This isn’t the end of the world (or the game) to me. But I do find the posting of story spoilers by ArenaNet staff disappointing and in poor form. I expect ArenaNet staff to at a minimum to conduct themselves in a manner that is expected of the playerbase.
