It really all depends on the specific item and current supply/demand of the armor pieces vs. crafting materials. It’s difficult for folks to give a definitive answer to your question because the market can and does fluctuate and something that was cheaper to buy yesterday may be cheaper to craft today. And folks really have no clue specifically what mats you have on-hand, which impacts your total crafting cost.
I think your best bet is to go to www.gw2spidy.com, go to the Crafting section and look for the items you are considering equipping. Each craftable item has an entry that will indicate the cost to buy vs. the total cost to craft so you can determine whether it’s cheaper to craft or buy. And even better, it lists all the crafted ingredients needed to craft the item and the buy cost vs. craft cost those ingredients as well.
Now keep in mind that the total cost to craft is based on current market prices to buy the mats and craft the items yourself and doesn’t take into account mats that you already have on-hand. So an item that may appear to be cheaper “buy” on gw2spidy may actually be cheaper for you to craft if you already have all or most the materials on-hand. But it at least it can help you make an educated decision!

The reason why we say speak English:
1. NA Server – Official Language = English
There are 13 designated language-specific servers in GW2…and they’re all European. There is no designated language for the remaining servers. Yes, SF is a NA server. Which means you can expect to see any of the predominate NA languages (English, Spanish, French) spoken on the server. And since we tend to see the Oceanic/Asian crowd on the NA servers (since they have none of their own), you can expect to see those languages on NA servers as well. English may be the predominate language on the NA servers, but it’s not the official language (‘cause there isn’t an official designated language).
2. Everyone will understand it, makes communicating in WvW easier.
Not everyone speaks English.
3. Its plain rude and ignorant to talk in another language when you know not everyone will understand it. They could be saying anything about you and you would have no idea.
Be sure to keep this in mind if you ever choose to travel internationally.
4. RESPECT
People deserve respect no mater what language they speak.

It was very unpleasant to be there, reading all the insults, bullying, even racist comments (We have a very large latin american population, I’m from Chile) and we must deal with racism everyday in SF, it’s a shame.
As a SF player, it really saddens me that you Latin American players have to deal with so much grief from the English-speaking players (both PvE and WvW). I’ve seen such shenanigans before in Lion’s Arch and it’s just not right. And it really disheartens me that you recently had to deal with this kind of stuff in WvW. We’re all in this together and are here to have some fun. And you are just as entitled to fun as the rest of us.
Just know that not all English-speakers on Sorrow’s Furnace agree or participate in the anti-non-English-speakers sentiment. You most certainly have some English-speaking friends on the server too! I personally love being part of a global community and I’m always thrilled to see other languages in chat (and even more thrilled when I can somewhat get the jist, as it’s been a LOOONG time since I’ve been in Spanish class! ). If you ever see me roaming around in WvW or PvE, feel free to look me up!

Don’t really want to recreate my feedback from other threads, so I’m just going to consolidate some of what I’ve already posted into this official feedback thread…
I was expecting a one-time event for this content update and was mentally prepared to miss it. But I have to admit that I was expecting something similar to how the Halloween event was handled (one-time event was a cut-scene, the activity tied to it was available for a couple days). I was completely crestfallen when I saw today’s announcement and noticed that the one-time event would be an “event chain” that would be only available for “multiple hours.”
Of all the Sundays afternoons, that happens to be THE one that I’m out of town and will be completely tied up all afternoon. I fly out that morning and return the following morning. Sucks to be me! Now, I totally understand that ArenaNet cannot cater to everyone and it totally sucks that my family obligation happens to coincide with this one-time event chain. And I completely understand that there is no way everyone will be able to catch it, no matter what ArenaNet does.
But I wholeheartedly feel that event activities should not be limited to only one day or just several hours. Cut-scenes…no problem! Everyone can catch the cut-scenes they missed on YouTube. But activities like event chains should be offered over multiple days to maximize the number of players that can experience the content. ‘Cause even though Sunday afternoons is the timeframe with the highest concurrency, that’s still a significant portion of the playerbase that will miss out on this content.
In my honest opinion, the Halloween event was handled FAR better…
I’ve been a huge advocate for this game due to their “when it’s ready” philosophy. Well…I don’t know what happened with that philosophy because this event was NOT ready and is a huge disappointment. I realize there will inevitably be some bugs…it happens in all games. But with the amount of broken content with this event, it seriously feels like a stress test and not a live environment. This isn’t the polished content I’ve come to expect with Guild Wars 2. The event just feels way too rushed (both in implementation and the time it’s offered).
ArenaNet, you really need to consider extending out the timeframe you offer said content to allow time for bug fixes. ‘Cause bugs ARE going to happen and you need adequate time to fix those bugs. And three days just nearly isn’t enough time to implement bug fixes AND give players enough time to complete the event content. This event should have been offered over the course of a week…not three days.
This event really reflects poorly upon ArenaNet and Guild Wars 2. And I’m quite saddened that it coincided with the free trial weekend. I’m actively encouraging those that I invited for the free trial weekend to skip the event content and focus on the rest of the game since it’s far more polished. Which shouldn’t be the case.
I was unable to make the event today due to a family commitment. I was quite disappointed when earlier announcements indicated the one-time event finale was going to an event chain. I was totally okay with missing a one-time cut scene. But it’s totally disappointing to miss out on playable content because it’s only offered for several hours. I resigned myself to the fact that I’d be missing out on some neat content and got past it…or so I thought.
Now I learn that the chest rewards had a chance for legendary precursors…WOW. I now seriously have no words to express my severe disappointment at how the timing and rewards for this event was handled. It rewards the lucky few who can make the event with hefty rewards and leaves the rest of us who couldn’t make the event due to family commitments, work commitments, time zone differences, etc., etc. high and dry. I hope this does not become a pattern. I’d rather not see the creation of haves and have nots due to these sort of event rewards.
Overall, kudos to ArenaNet for making an attempt at an ambitious event. However, it fell flat and was very disappointing for me due to the massive amount of bugs and the exclusivity of the finale. I fell in the “have nots” category since I couldn’t participate in the finale due to circumstances beyond my control and as a result, lost out on an opportunity for some pretty significant items. Severely disappointing for someone who has been supporting your game for years and has been playing since beta and has yet to see such loot drop in regular gameplay. I’m not going to ragequit and am still a huge advocate of this game. But it’s my hope that ArenaNet listens to this sort of feedback and takes it in mind for future events.
Henge of Denravi
One time events are okay if they wouldn’t cause so much unfairness.
I will take 0.00001% chance of getting a Precursor over 0% chance of getting it because I can’t join the event for whatever reason.
Either go ahead and make one-time events in the future but don’t include game-changing loots or make one-time events that ALL people can participate.
^^100% this.

I completed only through Noll because the official word from Stephane was that the Phase 1 events would remain in-game after Phase 2 commenced and in order to complete Phase 1, we needed to complete through Noll and have the map fragment. Now come to find out that I’ll never be able to do Miyani’s portion of Phase 1 because it’s been removed from the game! This is incredibly disappointing frustrating.

Kamohoali’i is most definitely Hawaiian. It’s the name of a shark god and a brother to Pele (the volcano goddess). Quite an appropriate name for a legendary underwater weapon.
Kotaki may be a Japanese last name, but Kekai’s first name is Hawaiian (translates to “The Sea”). Kekai was born and raised on the Big Island, so he’s from Hawaii. Hard to determine if his lineage is Hawaiian with his last name, but it’s certainly possible since there are plenty with Hawaiian heritage who do not have Hawaiian last names due to marriage. He may or may not not be kanaka maoli (native Hawaiian). But he’s most certainly kama’aina (“child of the land,” a Hawaiian word commonly used for Hawaiian residents).
For those who are curious, the name of the legendary translates to “The Chiefly Chosen One Kotaki.”
It’s like you’re arguing with me, but talk about a completely different thing.
That picture is really awesome. Some very nice artwork.
Just sort out issues with underwater combat and their might be some reason to go for it!
Oh, don’t get my intent wrong! I’m not arguing at all. Just laying out all the pieces of the name puzzle so folks can understand what are the Hawaiian bits and what are the Japanese bits (and why the Japanese bits may actually be considered Hawaiian after all). Could be helpful for whoever ends up writing the Wiki entry. Not to mention I danced hula for 7 years and this gives me a chance to show off a wee bit!

who cares if he is or isnt the real worlds first creator of this legendary? at the end of the day he’s happy with the weapon and has come on here to show the rest of us how awesome it looks which is more than others who claim to have made it first chose to do.
Nice pics FILTHOUND.7659 and congrats on the legendary
i love when ppl post stuff like this, HE CARES. thats why he says it. personally the trident or whatever with the eels is 10x cooler than this one, i mean the devs couldnt even decide between a hawaiian or japanese name so they just merged it or something
Actually, it’s all Hawaiian. Kotaki is the last name of our illustrious former lead concept artist Kekai Kotaki who is Hawaiian. The concept for this Legendary is the last concept piece he did for us before moving on.
Congrats on your Legendary!!!

I am very disappointed in A’Net for making content that not everyone will be able to enjoy or even experience . . .
We weren’t able to learn more about the finale, as ArenaNet is keeping things under wraps for now, but suffice it to say that the team is pretty confident that players will enjoy the experience and especially the special reward that players will receive.
Wow…just wow…
This is VERY disappointing indeed. Bad call ArenaNet!

If your buddy were someone who was level 80 and wanted their 100% map completion nao, then yes, I’d agree that the best (and maybe only) solution would be to hop servers. But someone who just got the game last week has PLENTY of time to work on those WvW maps and as mentioned above, there are additional options at their disposal. When you have time (or patience) on your side, you have more options available to you with the WvW map completions.
That said, I 100% agree that the server colors should be regularly rotated instead of the current system so no one server gets stuck on any particular color.

Okay…so you want extra programming so that you get to see some cut scene on your own time? There is going to be permanent changes and you get to experience those in your own time. What is it that the oceanics are so disparaged about missing?
No, that’s not the case at all. People are upset and disappointed because it’s not just a cut-scene, but an event chain that’s only going to be offered for “multiple hours.” In other words, there is going to be playable content that they absolutely can not participate in because it said playable content will only be available for “multiple hours” and for the Oceanics, it’s the wee hours of Monday morning. I totally understand this frustration and disappointment because I’ll be missing this playable content as well (but for different reasons).
If this was JUST a cut-scene like what we saw with Halloween, it’s very likely folks wouldn’t be nearly as upset since cut-scenes can always be caught on YouTube. But once ArenaNet removes the event chain from the servers, there is absolutely no way to experience it ever again.
Offering playable content for only “multiple hours” is a bad way to go. Even if it’s during period of highest concurrency, a significant portion of the player population will still miss it. A far better model for these world-changing events was the Halloween event, where the cut-scene was the one-time event and the playable content tied to the cut-scene was available for several days.
Several days > multiple hours when it comes to playable content.
Henge of Denravi
2. If the ‘one time event’ is, like the Mad King Explosion, a cinematic scene, can a copy not be made to play for every player when they next log in the game? Or give them the option to view it? (Youtube just does not capture the moment. The videos are small and not high res.)
FYI…The announcement indicates that it’s a “onetime only event chain that will run multiple hours” (emphasis mine).
If the one-time event were just a cinematic scene like the Mad King Explosion, I don’t think as many folks would be in such a tiff. A cinematic is something that can be easily be caught after the fact on YouTube (yeah, the res sucks, but you still can see it). But folks aren’t too thrilled they’re going to be missing a game changing event chain (i.e. playable content) because it’s only available for “multiple hours.”
I’d personally prefer these one-time events be handled in a similar fashion as the Halloween event (at a minimum). At least with the Mad King Dungeon, it was a one-time cinematic followed by a limited-time dungeon that was available for several days. Cinematics as one-time events, no worries! Folks can easily catch those after the fact.
But IMHO, any “game-changing” playable content should be offered for at least a couple days so all players in all time zones and work schedules have a chance to experience it. ‘Cause even though this is being offered at the time with highest concurrency, a significant portion of the playerbase is going to miss out on this one-time event chain. There are some obligations that folks just can’t work around…out-of-town trips, work, family obligations, sleep (for those non-NA players), etc. Sure it’s impossible for ArenaNet to make it convenient for everybody and there’s always going to be someone who is disappointed because they missed it. But the least ArenaNet could do is increase the odds that more players can experience playable content by offering it for a bit longer than “multiple hours.”

MAD KING Event 1 Time Event!!!!!!!!
Pacific Players Panic, What Will Happen? I’ll Quit if I Cannot Be a Part of the One Time Event!
Event comes, its a brief cinematic. Feel like you missed anything? Probably not.
Queue November One Time Event:
OH NO ILL MISS THE ONE TIME EVENT!!
Its probably another brief cinematic, signalling to players that they can now enter the new instance. You wont miss anything, im sure the cinematic can be viewed on utube again only minutes after it happens live.
Ummm…
The event will culminate in a big Finale on Sunday November 18, make sure you will not miss it. This will be a onetime only event chain that will run multiple hours, and it will kick off at noon PST (20:00 GMT). Again, this will only run once, so make sure you will be there!
Emphasis mine.
If this one-time event goes down exactly as described, this is going to be an event chain. Not just a cinematic. And I find that problematic.

I absolutely LOVED the Halloween event (especially the Clock Tower) and wished it went a wee bit longer. Preferably at least 1.5-2 weeks (so it could have been spread out over 2 weekends) and no acts that are only available for one day so more players with heavy work/family obligations could get the full Halloween experience. I was able to get my Emissary title, but know many people who were weren’t able to due the VERY limited nature of the event. I and most of these folks I play with come from an MMO where the special events ran for a solid two weeks and the feedback I heard about the event from my guildmates was consistently “the Halloween event was AWESOME, but it was all crammed into too short of a timeframe.”
I totally understand ArenaNet had a development timetable to stick to and was unable to extend out the Halloween event. But it’s my hope they’ll listen to this feedback and work this kind of feedback into their development timetable for future events.

Yes they removed Salvaging and added Dungeons as well as two ??? categories most likely related to a Thanksgiving event.
The two ?? categories are most likely to do with “The Lost Shores” content update that will be going live in November. As far as I know, ArenaNet doesn’t do a Thanksgiving event.

Trick is to use speed buffs. Most of them are disabled, but if you’re an elementalist or have one of the cash shop speed buffs then you can use them. And being that extra 10-15% faster makes everything so much easier. Jump further, move faster, etc.
No, the trick isn’t speed buffs. The trick is practice, patience (lots!), memorization and precision. And memorization based on angles, jump timing and music cues instead of heavy reliance on sight very much helps as well.
I completed this puzzle well over 100 times (and I’m not the most skilled at jumping puzzles) on my mesmer and didn’t use a single speed boost the entire time. So I can say with absolute certainty that speed boosts are NOT needed for this puzzle. In fact, a speed boost can really mess some folks up. I can’t count the number of eles that I saw fall to their deaths because they don’t have as much control with that speed boost passive and tend to have trouble landing their jumps precisely.

100% agreed! Don’t be sorry! The clock tower was by far my favorite piece of the Halloween event and I feel Josh went above and beyond with this one.
I saw the outcries on the forums before my first attempt and since I’m not exactly the best at jumping puzzles, was mentally prepared to not have the achievement by the end of the Halloween event. But I still wanted to at least give it the ol’ college try! I started around 8:30pm Pacific Friday and kept trying and trying, failing miserably time and time again. And I amazingly didn’t get too terribly frustrated (probably because I already set myself up for the worst-case scenario of not finishing it). But little by little, I learned the nuances got farther and farther. 4 hours later, I finally made it to the top and scored my slippers and achievement! Probably my proudest moment and greatest sense of accomplishment that I’ve felt in this game yet!
I could have just walked away slippers and achievement in hand…but a funny thing happened. I tried it AGAIN! I kept going, trying to perfect my technique and to see if I could do it a second time. And hour after my first completion, I scored my second completion. Ankittenpt going and going and going! And completed the puzzle again and again and again. I’m completely addicted!
I spent the majority of the Halloween event doing this puzzle because I so incredibly enjoyed it and wanted to get as much in as possible before it goes away. I lost count how many times I actually completed the puzzle, but I’d estimate I made it to the top WELL over 100 times over the course of the event based on my trick-or-treat bag count. This puzzle even compelled me to record my gameplay for the first time ever to commemorate that I was able to master this most difficult content (http://youtu.be/ymjSyh7o_EA).
Long story short, I LOVE this puzzle and it’s among my favorite content in the game. Keep up the good work Mr. Foreman! I look forward to what you have in store for us in the future!

That achievement is tied to the Halloween Dynamic Events, not the Halloween games like Reaper’s Rumble or Lunatic Inquisition. There are Halloween Dynamic running in Queensdale, Kessex Hills and Gendarran Fields as well as in the Labyrinth.

I noticed this on some overflow maps as well. I suspect there are some major latency issues with some of the Clock Tower overflows that causes these issues to occur.
Henge of Denravi
I’ve been doing Clock Tower runs for funsies (and trick-or-treat bags) and found myself all by my lonesome in overflow way late the other night. It was like my own private instance and it was pretty neat. The portion at the pause (and shortly thereafter) was a bit easier without the cluster of panicked players. But it wasn’t THAT much easier for me since I had already mastered the puzzle by that point. My buddy who was struggling with the puzzle joined me in my “personal” overflow map after a bit and was able to score the slippers and the achievement within 3 or so runs. He had the skills, but was really struggling with the visibility issues when larger model characters were on the same map.
I suspect it may all really depend on how you memorize the puzzle. A lot of people rely heavily on sight cues and the crowds can really trip people up when you try to memorize the puzzle this way. A solo instance will help the former tremendously. Those who rely more on angles, timing and music cues and don’t rely on sight as much (especially in the early stages of the puzzle) likely have a much easier time with the puzzle, even with the crowds. While these folks would also benefit from a solo instance, they may not necessarily find it THAT much easier.
Henge of Denravi
No, I very strongly believe that it is not a copyright issue. I could be mistaken, but I believe it is not related to copyrights.
Ah, groovy! I’ve seen this specific name banned in another game due to copyright issues, but the genre of the MMO I used to play was far more similar to the copyrighted property than the genre of this game. Glad to see everything worked out for the best!
Henge of Denravi
If my name is being banned because PYRO is offensive/copyrighted, i want every single person in the game with the name Pyro in their name to be renamed (this includes most of my characters anyway)
But that’s not how copyright works. If a name has enough degrees of separation from the copyrighted name, it’s okay to use. If the name violation is indeed a copyright issue, the name “P Y R O” isn’t okay to use because it’s similar enough to the copyrighted name “Pyro” that it may be considered a violation of copyright. There aren’t enough degrees of separation that would make the name okay to use and it could be considered a copyright issue from a legal standpoint. Sure the name IS different, but an argument could be made that those differences solely exist to work around the banned names list so you can use a copyrighted name. That may not be your intent, but it’s an argument that a lawyer could make. And I’m guessing that’s a legal battle ArenaNet likely does not want to fight.
But names with “pyro” as PART of the name (and not the entire name) may be okay to use because there are enough degrees of separation from the copyrighted name “Pyro” that from a legal standpoint, the name is not considered a copyright violation and is safe to use. It’s the reason why ArenaNet can use names like Pyroclastic Axe and may be the reason why your other names are safe….they’re different enough from the copyright that they’re usable. No need to sacrifice your other character names (and the names of other players) just because they have the name “pyro” as part of the name.
This is all assuming the name was removed due to a copyright violation, of course.

I realise my 2 cents probably isn’t warranted.
But if you guys did flag his character because the name is “inappropriate” then you’re being kind of ridiculous.
There is absolutely nothing inappropriate or unacceptable about the word pyro.
Especially considering both GW1 and GW2 have armour, weapons and items that uses the word (e.g. Pyroclastic Axe, Pyromancer’s Armor, Pyromancer’s Alacrity etc)….
It’s likely due to a copyright issue…

Pryo when included as a part of a a descriptor (such as Pyroclastic Axe, etc) is okay. Pyro as a name isn’t because the name is copyrighted. Saw this kind of thing all the time when I played City of Heroes.

I’m in Seattle and will in no way be impacted by Hurricane Sandy. But I have guildmates who have already been impacted (i.e. they were visiting the area and their flights were cancelled) and have several more who will soon be impacted because they live in the area. It’s my hope that ArenaNet will (or are) considering extending the Halloween event or doing an event Redux (as they have in the past with GW1) so those impacted will have a chance to score their achievements.
My thoughts are with those who are impacted…stay safe!

Just tested this out this morning. Works like a charm! Thank you ArenaNet!

I thought the cut-scene was awesome. My only disappointment is that my cut-scene was bugged and the Mad King model did not appear. So all I saw was Magister Tassi fighting an empty hole. I’m not the only one who experienced this bug.
Thank goodness there are folks on YouTube who posted the non-bugged version!

Yeah, my boyfriend and I experienced the bug too…

I’ve mastered this jumping puzzle and was doing it all day yesterday for fun. Ended up on overflow and by 1am PDT, everyone dropped off except me and the overflow was pretty much my own personal instance. I didn’t need the help, but did find it pretty amazing how much of a difference not having other PCs in the area made on the difficulty of this puzzle. A buddy of mine who was struggling with the puzzle for way too joined me in my “personal” overflow and he was finally able to score his achievement within two or three runs. He knew the route and had the skills, but was struggling with visibility issues (especially when larger character models were on the map).
