SF are still in exactly the same position as before, but HoD and NSP are now in the position of ET and FC.
Yes, we did get bored dominating underpopulated servers in T8. Hence why we’re seeing a WvW resurgence on our server now that we’re in T7 and are seeing a LOT of names that we haven’t seen in a long time.
But you guys are by no means “underpopulated” and are nowhere near the position that ET and FC were when we were in T8. We were winning by 200K margins (on average) in that tier. That is not happening here. You guys are more of a challenge than pre-server transfer ET and FC and are FAR more populated. Also, and your ratings are not beaten so down into the dirt like ET and FC, so I hightly doubt your scores will be a huge rating drag for whoever ends up in the first place spot. This ain’t no Glicko Ghetto.

Sorry, I misspoke, wait… nope, I didn’t misspoke, We lost guilds-we went to T8-we got a horrible first week when the guilds left were running like headless chicken-we got our act together and won every single week by a landslide to get out of T8, from when we lost a lot of guilds to us going up just now, we never got a mass influx of transfers, like I said, most of the guilds playing wvw now were at some point pve mostly, hence why you were doing pvdoor the first week and getting a zerg hit you the next, also why we didn’t had any strategy until now that we need it.
He’s right. We didn’t get tons of new guilds/individuals coming in. You guys should have seen SF a month ago… What we have is a result of hard work to get the server to work together.
^^ While there’s no denying that we did receive some server transfers just before free server transfers were locked down, we most certainly did NOT get mass transfers as was seen with other servers. The additional folks did help bolster our numbers a bit and gave us an edge in T8, but it didn’t completely offset the number of players/guilds we lost back in December and players/guilds who stopped playing WvW when we dropped into T8.

SF Portal bombs are shocking the first couple of times you see them; and I really think those should be restricted to only the people in a mezmer’s party, or only allow Xnumber of people through. Portal bombing ikittenllion people is game-breaking, and while not an infraction of the rules, it is certainly skating the line of cheating, it seems to me.
You do know that portals are limited to use by 20 people, yes? ANet nerfed Portal Bombs a LONG time ago (like, December).

Uh…yeah, we know! We should have been able to get out of T8 on our own steam a LONG time ago (1/4 of a year of domination is simply too long). But due to how Glicko works and how skewed the ratings were in T8, there was simply zero chance of us getting out of T8 on our own steam without some sort of adjustment to the ratings.
So why should T8 NA get special treatment? Why not a universally applied answer? As an academic and a historian you should know that giving a minority special treatment is not a solution.
Does any other tier have to post average margins of 200k for 11 weeks straight and still see no progression in sight? No, no they don’t. The ratings in T8 have been driven down so ridiculously low that it’s now virtually impossible to progress from T8 to T7 anymore. This so-called “special treatment” helps get the T8 ratings back within a reasonable variance of the T7 ratings and levels out the broken Glicko playing field for the most severely impacted by the Glicko math so the T8 servers don’t have to put in FAR more effort to progress than higher level tiers.
It sounds like from Devon’s posts that the other tiers are NOT being ignored. Today’s adjustment is just to give the most impacted tier a little help until a more permanent solution for the entire ladder can be found.

We get the idea from the fact that as soon as VK came down here there were many people that started posting videos and giving out advise to every server that was kind of antagonistic.
Not sure why people get the idea that SF or any of T8 wants us in this match, and the only thing it has done is made our tactics a whole lot worst. Agg came down from T1 and didn’t start blowing up the forums like VK even though they were staying. I have read the T2 forums from before you guys came down and there was a complete change of attitude down here all the way in T8….but I would like to see how other T2 servers would react if you guys posted on your forums like that.
And the impartial opinions seemed a lot more like jabs than anything else. But hey I just spoke my honest opinion about how I felt about the ego stroking of a T2 guild that jumps down for a week to “Vacation” in T8 and then post like crazy on forums where they aren’t staying in.
Actually, we’ve been a lot classier here than in T2 with TC. I won’t go into detail here, but we have a 6 month long hate relationship with TC. So….you just basically lied to everyone.
Second…we put up videos every forum we are in. It’s actually pretty normal. Lots of people from our server and competing servers in T2/T3 do it. I’d suggest you guys do it too. It’s fun.
You…you are just trying to create a fight. That’s fine. Maybe someone will take the bait. However, I’d advise searching other avenues for enjoyment. I use to waste my time doing similar things. I’m happier now.

And as far as the T2 post goes there wasn’t a lot of Heroes on there standing up to the other servers….just a whole lot of talk about how VK’s server was outnumbered by the others and that makes me think you guys came here for an ego boost and to beat up on SF cause of our numbers. I have to admit that the free server transfers to ET and FC feel like a blessing and a curse. A curse because we’re being punished by Glicko (yet again!) for “underperforming” again. But a blessing because we’re seeing well populated fights, more tactics, more strategy. It’s given the entire tier an opportunity to learn and grow and it’s been the most fun I’ve had in WvW in quite some time.
Quite frankly, I really feel the ratings for both ET and FC are just too low (hence the Glicko Ghetto problem, those uber low scores ultimately drag down the first place server in the tier, hence why we’re “stuck”) and are most certainly not an accurate reflection of their current WvW state. And after seeing Filthy’s posts about his alt account’s transfer to T7, I’d be REALLY interested in seeing how those T7 servers would fare against us T8 servers (not just SF, but ET and FC as well). Perhaps the entire T8 should be the next T7? :P

Always tons of fun. I’ve made it in alive every time, but never get much farther than the top of the steps. You get teleported out when you get too far in. :-/

The teleport happens in both EB enemy spawns and the non-citadel enemy spawns on the BL maps. We’ve never tried any hijinks with an enemy’s citadel (or if we have, I haven’t been there for it).
BTW, that vid is from October…didn’t they fix the whole “enemies sneaking into the Citadel spawn” thing awhile back? (I remember the hubbabaloo, but don’t recall whether the fix ever actually happened)

And I believe that was just one week of a curbstomp, it is not like they dominated us for weeks on end.
Truth. We were in T7 for three weeks. The first week (12/15-12/22) was SF/HoD/DR and both SF and HoD were both completely curbstomped by DR when they skyrocketed out of T8. The second week (12/22-12/29), DR went up to T6 and GoM dropped down into T7. That week, DR won, but the match was relatively competitive (222K for GoM vs 200 for SF vs 195 for HoD). Our final week in T7 (12/29-1/5) was the only week we were curbstomped by GoM (330K for GoM vs 135K for SF vs 147K for HoD).

You fell into T8 after GoM curbstomped you at the same time Kain was continually scoring over 500k for weeks on end to beat the glicko trap (Week 52 in Milenium history).
Sure, GoM curbstomped us…but they were also curbstomping HoD during that same match. The scores between HoD and SF were really close when we were in that tier and it was a tossup who would ultimately drop down into T8. HoD edged us out the week Kain skyrocketed out of T8 and we were the ones who dropped.
It should also be noted that much of the reason we dropped and HoD didn’t was because our PvXers (which is a large part of our WvW community) were not in WvW as much that week since they were getting the last tidbits of the Wintersday event before it ended. Not to mention we lost some WvW guilds during December.
Once we dropped into T8, we started seeing our PvXers back in WvW again. And just before free transfers were removed, we received some transfers that boosted our WvW community. And we’re seeing more and more PvEers giving WvW a try. We’re most certainly not the same server numbers-wise as when we dropped into T8.

Back before the free server transfers, FC couldn’t even reach 30 people in their zergs (and sometimes, were lucky to see even that many from FC in all of WvW). Tying up 30 slots may very well have a huge impact on a server with such a low baseline population. We’ll see what the final result is next week.

Well since SF hasn’t had a worthy opponent in over 2.5 months don’t think any one here will take anything you say seriously. Seeing Agg’s tactics and skill I really find it hard to believe that VK came from a top tier server, but then again maybe coming down here was supposed to be a ego boost for you guys. Not to sure why any one from a T2 server would come and vacation on T8 for a week but it was nice of you guys to take 30+ free transfers from the lowest populated server for whatever the reason (sure they will be thanking you at the end of this upcoming week)
Glad that Agg is staying for the long run, good to have decent armies to fight.
lawl… I stated the part about the trasnfers before reading this post… Glad to see I’m not the only one who think they shouldn’t have done that as this pretty much hurt FC more than actually helped.
There are a number of folks who think it was a bad move on VK’s part. FC reached High population during the free transfer offer, so people weren’t able to transfer to FC anymore because they were no longer medium population. VK essentially tied up free transfer slots, denying serious permanent transfers the opportunity to transfer for free to FC and denying the lowest populated server the opportunity for a permanent population boost.
FC may have picked up some new WvW moves from VK, but I wouldn’t doubt it’s going to be a huge challenge for FC to pull some of those new moves off without the population to back it up.
Hope you VK guys were able to get those map completions you needed during your little “vacation.”

I think we can really learn a lesson from these forums.
I can’t speak for other servers, but ET we’re better than this. Why do people get on here just to complain about numbers? It’s obvious they have more but it’s also not the only reason they win in some situations. Sure it’s the backbone of the score right now but I’m talking more of the individual group fights / open fights that happen (because it’s really easy to defend a fully upgraded tower / keep), but they aren’t all bad and trying to slam them just makes you seem really childish.
For some of the new guilds that have come to our servers, claiming you’re god’s gift to pvp and are going to carry our server isn’t going to make you many friends. Just an imho and observation.
Also +1 to fc, minus the odd man out here QQing you guys have kept quiet and had a certain humility that was one of the major reasons I came to ET with the guild a while back ago… wasn’t about the odds.
…and why is everyone so hard on VK? There were never any illusions about them staying so why try to slander them all the time? They came, and, although they were a bit too loud on the forums for my tastes, they helped show FC new tricks. Seems like they were appreciated there so why can’t that compute for people from other servers?

Would like to point out that the xfers actually screwed you guys. You were on your way up to T7 slowly but you were and after the transfers you are currently on your way back down separating the gap. All you can do now is really cheer for the people you wanted everyone to push down for you, HoD. And hope we just target one server so they begin to drop significantly. Ahhhh karma got to love it.

No. SF has been my home since BWE1. And server transfers doesn’t do anything to actually solve the rating issue. It just further compounds it.

SF has been in T8 for 12 weeks straight now (3 months, a solid quarter of the year) and has dominated for 10 weeks straight. As of last Friday, SF has won by 75K to 296K margins (with an average of 206K and a median of 225K) each match for the 10 weeks of domination. However, this isn’t “adequate” enough to Glicko for SF to progress from T8 to T7 (yet other servers in other tiers aren’t held to such standards).
Win harder. Since there’s been a bit of Kaineng bashing going on here, let’s go ahead and look at Kaineng’s departure from T8 – to break out of T8, we needed multiple 500k weeks. SF is barely breaking 300k, and that’s not even a given. Although that would definitely qualify for a blowout, it’s not enough to get out of T8. Especially now.
I should have posted “yet other tiers aren’t held to such standards.” Yes, other servers have been held to high standards. And those servers who were held to such standards were those who were stuck in T8 for way too long as well.
Sadly, SF never got nearly the number of transfers that Kain did to make breaking out of T8 a reality for us. But my argument stands…no server should have to roflstomp by such ridiculous margins for so long just to break out of their tier. Whether DR, Kain or SF. Or anyone unfortunate to drop into the tier in the future (if we’re ever actually able to break out).

EVERY server has folks who do this. If you don’t like it, don’t do it and if/when it is done to you, just move on. Kittening about it gives those who do it exactly what they want and just encourages them (and others) to do it more.

SF has been in T8 for 12 weeks straight now (3 months, a solid quarter of the year) and has dominated for 10 weeks straight. As of last Friday, SF has won by 75K to 296K margins (with an average of 206K and a median of 225K) each match for the 10 weeks of domination. However, this isn’t “adequate” enough to Glicko for SF to progress from T8 to T7 (yet other tiers aren’t held to such standards). We lost -52 rating on March 1st for "underperforming, even though we won by a 126K margin. This week, a similar rating decrease is projected to occur for this week’s match because we’re “underperforming” again (even though we’re doubling the second place score).
The free server transfers hasn’t fixed anything, just prolonged our stay in T8 for who knows how much longer. Now, I DO think free server transfers are something that does need to happen to help populate the underpopulated servers. Because let’s be honest, FC and ET do need more WvWers so they can be competitive with whoever they are facing in T8. But that fix should have come at the same time as a fix to the rating system. Doing it before a rating fix just screws things up even more.
Now, we do know that it’s been officially been confirmed that ANet IS looking at the WvW server rating issue. Hopefully a fix comes soon. It’s starting to feel too little too late. :-/
