Week 7 - Fight For Second - SF/DH (and ET)

To Manoa, I know FC has had a similar situation to you guys with HoD matchups, but as everyone is talking about FC for running a 52 omega zerg and papering a whole borderland right now, I dunno they’re taking it lying down so that might be an unfair comparison. That being said, please don’t do a 52 omega zerg against us, I like my upgraded border

I think you get me wrong with my mention FC. I never meant to insinuate they were taking it laying down. We SFers have a long history with FC and I know they’re a server who has always been fighting against the odds and are super feisty. They did a really good job this season playing for first when they could and playing hard for second if they had no chance at first. They’re a totally different server since our T8 days too and they really should be proud of their performance (especially given their crummy luck with the schedule). I only mentioned them earlier to point out the fact that there was one server who had slightly worse luck than SF with the scheduling, and they’ve been doing really well considering those odds (again, good job lil’ bro!).

And you shouldn’t have mentioned that FC 52 omega blitz in this thread. I know Banjo is reading.

Week 7 - Fight For Second - SF/DH (and ET)

in Match-ups

Manoa.5897

I THINK that most of our players enjoyed the easy week, then boom comes HOD. 2 weeks with them took a toll on a lot of us. We were feeling confident about what will happen in week 7, but holy kitten. DH changed a lot.

WvW is about population and coverage. But I think the thing that people tend to forget about is that WvW is also about momentum. The ebbs and flows of said population/coverage.

We SFers had some good population momentum the first three weeks, then took a huge hit to our momentum during those 2 straight weeks against HoD. There were only two servers who were unlucky enough to face off against HoD two weeks back-to-back, SF and FC (Those poor FC folks were even unluckier than us in League scheduling. They had 3 matches against HoD, 2 which were back-to-back. They should be super proud of their 4th place position. Well done lil’ bro!).

Now, I’m not complaining about being matched against HoD (those were some great fights, the server has some friendly folks, and they’re our community website bros). But if you’re talking cause and effect from a population momentum standpoint, I personally think the League scheduling had an impact. Once we wrapped up those tough back-to-back match-ups, we had only one week to regain population momentum for this particular match-up. And with a holiday, kids prepping for finals, and end-of-season burnout, it’s certainly tough week to rebuild that lost momentum (yes, all servers deal with those issues, but my point is that once you’ve lost momentum, those issues compound the problem and makes it difficult to recoup). It appears we just didn’t regain nearly as much momentum in Week 6 as we originally thought. It’s a shame, but it happens. Still, this Season has really shown how far SF has come since the beginning of the year (and has given us insight on how far we have left to go).

DH certainly benefited from a bit more favorable League schedule. There were three servers who were lucky with the league scheduling and only had to face off against the league heavy-hitter (HoD) once, and DH was one of those servers. Had DH faced HoD twice this Season like most other servers in the League, we’d likely be sharing that 2nd place position. Also, that particular DH/HoD match-up was relatively early in the season. DH had three solid weeks of wins since that tough match-up to rebuild their population momentum. And what momentum! You guys are a totally different server than the one we faced in Week 1. You guys should be totally proud of how much you’ve changed over the season and hope you’re able to maintain it into the next season. I look forward to a rematch when we have a bit more momentum behind us, and hope this is the DH we get to face when we’ve regained that momentum.

All in all, it’s been a great Season and good jobs all around. But I for one am suffering from some WvW burnout myself and am totally looking forward to the Season coming to a close.

Eh, I think folks are frustrated and super burnt out on all of this league business. We SFers have definitely seen a dip in population this week, which is further fueling that frustration. The hows and whys for the population dip are likely numerous (seriously, there’s never ever just one reason for a population drop).

At the end of the day, the top 3 should be proud of their performances this Season. We all fought hard and had some great fights. We’ve made some friends and earned some friendemies. Don’t let frustration and league burnout take that away from us. SF was in a pretty rough place at the beginning of 2013 and I for one am pretty kitten pleased that we ended up in the top 3 during this first Season. We may have a long way to go, but we’ve really come a LONG way since January.

Kitten, I was really hoping that Alcott and Banjo would finally resolve their differences and that this news about CoSA falling apart wasn’t true. But I can confirm that Alcott (Laggin) was one of CoSA’s leaders. If he says it’s true, then it must be true.

I am disapointed that the only LARGE group to receive the title: “Forged in Hell (T8)” is now disbanded…

Yup i heard hell got a little too hot I was the one who decided we(CoSa) should disband, I think it was for the best. I cant go into detail here tho.

Fun fact of the day, apparently a guild leader on HoD owns Sorrowsfurnace.com and the Mumble VoIP.

Discuss.

That news is so god kitten old. He also owns YaksBend.com. HoD worried about the idea of spies over a year ago when SF kicked our kitten … but nothing happened so it was just some nice guy hosting all this for us.

He spent most of this time on Yak’s Bend but moved over to HoD not too long ago. I’m not him so I don’t have the exact story. The owner is really nice, professional and fair.

It’s new news for us. But most of us already assumed he wasn’t an SFer. We just didn’t know exactly what server was his home server. I think most who were shocked were just shocked to learn exactly what server he calls home during a week we were matched against that server. That’s all. And the only reason it was even brought up was for full disclosure so those who would prefer to tailor their WvW discussions in the private areas of the site with this information in mind can do so.

Our server has been using the site and the mumble pretty heavily since January. He’s been incredibly professional host so far and has really left the direction and day-to-day social/moderation stuff to SFers. And he’s been incredibly responsive whenever we run into any tech issues with the site or the mumble.

Both sites have been in existence since BWE1. And the SF.com site has been in heavy usage since January. There is absolutely no way this could have been some engineered plan for HoD to gain some sort of advantage. I highly doubt the owner’s crystal ball is THAT good.

As for the rest, I do not eat bait.

Let’s look at facts bro – for example SF/DH/ET match. You got down to 105 PPT on Sunday night and down to 145 PPT at 8am Friday morning. Besides those two dips the lowest you ever reached was like 170 PPT but almost always kept it at 200+. And wednesday, thursday, friday you had the PPT ead at 5am.

Lowest we reached this match was +5 PPT Monday morning around 6am server (though I think we were able to increase that to +15 for the tick).

Oh no!!! You used facts in your argument here, I am not sure they will understand what you are trying to stay…

Yeah, I’m that super low PPT was all just a figment of our imaginations. And mos.millenium’s too.

Can you not read? I was referring to your closest match SF/DH/ET. You’re simply pointing out HoD has a strong night crew which nobody is denying.

Yeah, I can. Hence why I deleted the post before you posted your snark. Don’t need to be such an kitten about it.

lol sorry for being a kitten we are all in bronze for a reason and that reason is mainly we all lack 24/7 coverage. if SF’s day crew had HoD’s night crew it would be a middle-silver server.

Apology accepted. And yeah, we’d probably be solidly in Silver League if we had more 24/7 coverage. Having a night/daytime hours crew has been a dream of ours since launch.

Idk I think it was only one or two guilds, your mostly seeing our pve pop I think.

Agreed. I have seen some new faces who seem to know their stuff, so I wouldn’t doubt we had some some transfers. But considering how large of a PvE population we have and how much our PvEers love their achievements, I also think it’s more PvE population than a whole bunch of WvW transfers (Maybe we can convert them to the ways of WvW? Diminishing Returns on Clock Tower?

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: Manoa.5897

Manoa.5897

I’m kind of disappointed by this nerf.

Sure, I love Anet’s work but this… I did the JP the very first day (and I wasn’t during Last Year’s Halloween, so I hadn’t practiced before) and loved it, so I used to repeat it for fun AND rewards. Now that I don’t have rewards, I think I’ll just go anywhere else looking for fun ._.

I still like the JP, but the rewards are just kittenty and don’t encourage you to repeat it…

This very much echos my thoughts on the matter. I LOVE the Mad King Clock Tower JP. It’s my favorite JP in the entire game. I’ve repeated it many times this year and last because I enjoy running it. But it’s totally disappointing making it to the top only to open the chest and get…NOTHING!

Even though it’s my fave JP, it’s really hard to justify running it repeatedly anymore when I get absolutely no reward after the first run of the day (and the reward for the first run is pretty weak compared to the old rewards).

I’ll be going back to other fun content that actually DOES give rewards so I can have both fun AND rewards.

Clock Tower Bug

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: Manoa.5897

Manoa.5897

I’m hoping for the best (bug) and expecting the worst (nerf). If it is a bug, I hope it gets fixed quickly. If it’s working as intended and is actually a nerf, I’ll be really disappointed. Mad King’s Clock Tower is my favorite JP in the game and love running it. But I’d very much like to receive some reward for the time I spend in that content. The nerf in the number of ToT bags you get this year compared to last year was bad enough. But not rewarding folks for making it to the top after your first run of the day? That just isn’t right.

(And in my personal case, I’d much prefer the ToT bags instead of the Empyreal Fragments. I already get plenty of Fragments in WvW. ToT bags are a much sweeter reward).

Collectors Edition & Heroic Edition

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Manoa.5897

Manoa.5897

The Heroic edition has a Mithril box, 10 xp boosters and a suit of legacy armor. Who needs that mithril box or those xp boosters? I’ve got tons. The only thing you miss out on can be bought in the gem store.

Heritage armor can not be bought in the gem store, unless I am missing something here you are saying. If it could, I would have the medium set on several toons.

The Legacy armor from the Heroic Edition is not Heritage armor. Heritage armor can only be acquired via HOM. Legacy armor = a choice between Profane, Krytan or Primeval armor, which can be obtained in the gem store.

As far as the original topic…Collector’s Edition was a Digital Deluxe with extra IRL goodies. To claim that the Collector’s Edition buyers were robbed would mean that the Digital Deluxe buyers were robbed too. Sure it certainly would have been nice for ArenaNet to give all pre-existing Digital Deluxe and Collector’s Edition folk the Legacy armor, Mithril Box and XP boosters. But that’s the opportunity cost we pay for buying the game at launch.

As a Collector’s Edition owner, I don’t feel robbed in any way, shape or form. Considering the following…

-The cool goodies I got with the Collector’s Edition,
-Being able to participate in the BWEs,
-Being able to play at headstart,
-Being there then the game launched,
-All time I’ve invested in the game since launch (including 5 level 80s),

…I’d say I’ve gotten MORE than my money’s worth. And most of those are experiences/goodies that new players will simply not be able to get with the Heroic Edition.

Good on ArenaNet to keep giving incentives to entice new players to pick up the game and not feel completely left behind because they don’t have as much time invested in the game as players who have been in the game since launch.

Which servers are still trying? I’d like to quest to a server that’s still actively trying since once my server killed her, they not grouping anymore for the attack

I saw around 3 ppl in SF 7 pm server time, does that count? lol

SF hasn’t given up. It’s just been tough getting the folks who have been active in the organized runs together this week due to scheduling conflicts. In the interim, I’m suggesting that any SF folks out there who plan to join our server’s attempts to do some runs with one of the cross-server Teq guilds to familiarize themselves with the mechanics and tactics. It’ll make our own future attempts to take down Teq much smoother.

Totally random speculation, but I suspect they’ll handle the dungeon achievements in a similar manner as the crafting achievements. You do not have to reach 500 crafting to get “Master Crafter.” They kept that achievement/title as-is and you still only have to reach “master” level crafting (400 crafting) to get it. They just added Grandmaster crafting achievements above it (and I’m guessing once crafting to 500 is added to all crafting disciplines, they’ll add a “Grandmaster Crafter” achievement/title). I could easily see them do something similar to any new level-80 dungeons added to the game.

The answer to enjoying Teq is joining or or creating and guild focused on killing him (and future revamped world bosses). In it’s current state, Teq is impossible to do with 100 random pugs. You need to be a well organized Teq killing machine or you fail.

Well that’s just great. I already have 5 guilds so now I have to choose a group of friends to drop in order to gain gear. Because that’s what this community based game is supposed to be all about right?

BTW this isn’t against you, just the idea in general…..

It’s a shame they capped it at 5. Considering we’re a year in and new guilds are being formed specifically for these kinds of world events, certainly be nice if they’d consider raising the maximum number of guilds for an account.

This event is probably the most fun I’ve had and has really brought the PvE-side of our server together.

Its just a harder jormag, a raid boss in the open world requiring players to take specific actions at specific times, which is absolutely not dynamic at all, and ends up being an exercise in frustration because its reliant on too many ppl doing the right thing at the right time.

If anet really want to innovate these types of bosses should be made more dynamic.

Never claimed it was innovative. Just that I was having fun with it and it’s brought our server PvE community together, despite its flaws.

This event is probably the most fun I’ve had and has really brought the PvE-side of our server together. That said, it’s by no means perfect and I think there’s certainly some polish that could be done to make the more frustrating bits a bit less frustrating. I don’t want anything with the difficulty changed mind you. But Teq’s schedule, overflows, AFKers and such do make an otherwise fun event a bit more of a chore. Too much “waiting for fun,” which certainly goes against GW2’s original philosophy.

Hmm, not on the wiki, not on Dulfy.

Got a screenshot for this?

It’s not on the Wiki, but it is on Dulfy (first achievement on the list, screenshot from Dulfy’s site)…

I got it the first time our server encountered the tidal wave. Totally surprised me when I got it because I didn’t know it existed at the time!

Hidden "Achievement" Problem.

Stay Dry, Stay Alive is a hidden achievement. It doesn’t show up in the achievement panel and you don’t get any achievement points from it when you do get it. The only way you can get is is to fail the battery event and use the jump pads to jump over the huge insta-kill tidal wave using one of the jump pads.

I agree with the OP. There should not be any sort of reward (even one without achievement points) for outright failing the event. I also feel that achievements that require people to detach from the group and not work as a team (like “I Found It” and “Tail Flail”) are a bad idea for something that requires a high level of teamwork and coordination.

How low has your server gotten Tequatl?

in Tequatl Rising

SF got him to the 75%-50% mark again during Saturday and last night’s attempts. Looks like we need to polish our burn phase a bit. But we’ve been making some pretty good strides as far as coordination and teamwork. And got some good communication going with our Latino guilds, which was totally awesome.

Some of our folks observed one of the overflow guilds last night and saw what a successful run looks. We’re going to be giving those strategies/tactics a test run, but we SF folk seriously considering making our push on an overflow rather than on SF itself. We’ve been having a pretty bad problem on SF with AFKers camping at south turrets, which not only causes overflow issues, but also causes champs to spawn at those turrets.

The High Pop. Issue: AFKers

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Manoa.5897

Manoa.5897

I can’t speak for other high population servers, but this problem exists on my server. Hoping to save their spot in non-overflow, people are Akitteng at Tequatl usually on the jump pad by the East turrets. This is an issue for two main reasons:

1. AFKers are taking spots on the server that other people could have that would actually contribute to the fight.

2. Akitteng by the East turrets causes the mob spawns to scale creating champions and silvers making it much more difficult to defend.

We’ve been experiencing this on Sorrow’s Furnace. Totally frustrating.

Servers who... need help.

I’m from SF and I must say that we are getting there! We had 80 off people last night and almost had most guys on Mumble. Got Teq to 75% then failed the defence phase. But we’re getting there! Don’t give up!

This is the reason why I say most gave up. We used to be able to get him down to 50%(back on Wednesday/Thursday) but now we are doin worse because people who were interested back then have stopped showing up. So yes SF needs help. Just because one or two hours of the event at night have overflow doesn’t excuse the event been dead for most of the day.

People have not given up. A lot of those who participated in the Wednesday and Thursday attempt are avid WvWers and have been in WvW non-stop since Friday’s reset (we have a very tough week in WvW this week). They’re still interested and invested, but have been preoccupied.

:)

Yeah im a WvW myself, the last 3 match ups have been terrible for us. Not a lot of hope for our server, especially if they are being rude to other players.

The SF attempts I’ve been at have been incredibly positive. But it did sound like some feathers were a little ruffled earlier in the day when folks found out there were guests. The Teq regulars greatly discouraged everyone from giving those guests a hard time.

We have lots of folks who are itching to bring this guy down and I’m still confident that there’s plenty of hope for our server. We’ve maintained a positive attitude and have been making great strides at community building on the PvE side of things. We’ll get him!

Most people I’ve chatted with in mumble who are heavily invested (including guild leaders and commanders) seem content with where we’re at and are fine with puzzling it out for ourselves at our own pace. This content isn’t meant to be done all day every day. And doing it non-stop all day will burn people out, and we certainly don’t want that to happen.

Not to mention we had some BG visitors earlier in the day who dropped by to help and reportedly, a lot of SFers weren’t terribly keen on them being there and gave them pushback in /map. Not exactly a proud moment for SF. Even if the help is not welcomed and someone disagree with them guesting to our server, we should always be polite to those guesting. But it does further illustrate that SFers do want to puzzle it out for themselves.

Despite not successfully completing the first battery event, yesterday’s attempt was actually a good, solid attempt. We had some new experiences, which gave us the opportunity to learn what to do and not do. The whole thing gave random people who had not yet experienced the content an opportunity to learn the mechanics with a positive group of people and zero bickering so they too can become interested and invested. We had lots of new faces in our community mumble trying it out for the first time. And we had a representative from one of our Latino guilds with us in mumble for the first time translating to his guild in TS (which is totally awesome and essential for a server with a high Latino population).

Despite the fail, not doing as well as Wednesday/Thursday, and death by tidal wave, it was a positive experience for all involved. And it was certainly good step in the right direction from a community building perspective. It may take SF a bit longer than some of the other servers, but we’re doing okay.

We had a full map last night. We had to add a lot of folks to teams so they could get into the map because they were stuck in overflow. And it was mostly randoms and smaller guilds too. Good stuff!

Slowly but surely, the community is coming together and learning to work togther. We’ll get him for sures.

SF stil hasn’t beat him (Low Pop) :’(

I have been trying to teach people along with get people in mumble but there isnt a consistent group of players at each battle and we also run into population issues. All of our big wvw guilds are trying to contribute but we all cant be on each time.

Kinda sucks i might have to guest just to beat a boss.

Low pop? SF is by far not a low pop server on PvE-side. Heck, every time I try to get into Tequatl, I hit overflow (I was lucky enough to transfer from overflow to SF via a team yesterday, only way I’ve ever been able to get in).

Based on the two attempts I was able to participate in last night, the problem appears to be more so not having a stable group of people working on it. Makes it tough to organize when those participating keep changing from fight to fight. And you can have some pretty wild swings from fight to fight. I found the run with everyone I know from WvW went a bit smoother because they are already used to listening to each other and working together for a common goal (it’s not a large guild thing, it’s a “these various guilds are already used to working together” thing).

Go to the event when CoSa isnt there and see all 10 people that show up.

I’ve tried getting in when CoSA was in WvW and not Bloodtide and still had trouble getting in. I wasn’t able to log in yesterday, so I couldn’t say if participation has dropped because people gave up. But before, then, the only time I could easily get into the zone was during our server’s off-peak hours.
