I was in group 2 of the Anniversary Bash sneak peek and we stumbled upon the tidal wave as well. It is quite the surprise when you stumble upon it the first time!
Tip…if you see the event fail, get to a jump pad! You can use the jump pads to jump over the tidal wave and avoid insta-death.
Henge of Denravi
I have absolutely no problem with this event occurring in the open world. And I have no problem with the 15 minute limit on the event.
My biggest problem is the long time span between events and that it can be pretty tough in-game to track exactly when the events will occur. It makes it pretty tough to get a large group of people organized ahead of time for a coordinated attack.
Henge of Denravi
The Tequatl achievements under the Boss section are permanent. The Living Story “Boss Week” achievements are temporary.
Henge of Denravi
The closest WP shouldn’t be contested – a 1 minute run during a 15 minute fight is a ball breaker.
If Splintered Coast was uncontested, WPing to rez would be a no-brainer. They’re forcing you into a cost/benefit analysis to determine if/when WPing is more beneficial than rezzing on the spot.
It’s the same reason the dungeons were changed so that dead players can’t rez at the WP until the entire party is out of combat. ANet want people to use tactics and strategy, not to rely on WP zerging. And they’re trying to break people of the habit of forcing ALL dead players to WP with this event revamp.
Henge of Denravi
SF got him to 50% earlier, hopefully we can keep chippin down at him tomorrow.
It’s totally killing me that I haven’t been there fighting with you guys. I keep getting punted to overflow. Crossing my fingers I’ll be able to get into the zone for tomorrow’s big push.
Henge of Denravi
Madora doesn’t speak for all of SF – I would love to see Blackgate come and teach us how to down Teq. Bring it on! And cookies for everyone!
edited to get the name right!
I would not have an issue with other servers coming over to show us some tips and tricks IF we were low pop and didn’t have overflows. But as long as we have SFers are getting punted over to overflow servers, I will be wholeheartedly against asking another server to come over to SF for Teq.
Henge of Denravi
Hey BG and TC folks…HoD looks like they might be able to use your help.
Henge of Denravi
(edited by Manoa.5897)
You guys should reach out to some of the higher pop servers to see if they would be willing to come over to your server and help you guys out. Some of the BG crew ran into some issues with guesting, set up shop over on ET and helped them beat him. And they were considering doing the same with other low pop servers who want/need their help.
It’s a total win-win. You guys get the extra bodies that you need. And they get to play the content they want without being stuck in overflow.
Henge of Denravi
I still have yet to experience Teq on my home sever.
Henge of Denravi
Come and help us in UW!
please let us know when is this organised event on so I can inform guildies to be prepared too!
It’s a shame BG is an NA server and can’t guest onto the EU servers. It sounds like some of the EU servers could probably use the extra bodies and would likely welcome the help.
Henge of Denravi
Guesting to SF next was never decided on so if it’s unwanted I will make sure it doesn’t happen.
Much appreciated guys. Give us some time. If we do find that we end up needing your assistance after all, we’ll be in touch.
Henge of Denravi
Manoa, this is pretty much what is happening to Blackgate currently from all the other people guesting over.
What happened: with the new build from the patch, those who were dedicated on Blackgate were fighting Teq in the old build, while those who patched got in. In order to get everyone that was in BG Teamspeak and ready to fight organized, we all went to ET.
Unfortunately, with the population in Blackgate (both guests and local) getting everyone in who is active and on Teamspeak guesting to a low population server seems to be the best option for us.
Regardless, our guesting to ET showed other people the general strategy. With proper organization other servers can do it as well. Eventually it won’t even be necessary for all the teamspeak once people know the mechanics and how best to deal damage.
But our server isn’t low population though, last time I remember, it was high.
We’re still at “High” population. While we have a lower population base compared to BG, we’re by no means a “low pop server.” And if folks are using WvW ranking as a gauge for what is “low pop,” it’s going to be a poor gauge for servers like SF (which are predominately PvE servers, but struggle with all-hours coverage in WvW).
Henge of Denravi
If Blackgate group switching between low-population servers is unwanted we will make sure it doesnt happen tomorrow.
Thank you. Instead of pinpointing servers for help without asking them, perhaps you should reach out to the other server communities to see if your help is wanted or needed. There may be some low-pop servers who don’t have the population base that could use the help (like ET). But I can tell ya that SF has an adequate population base for this and is already dealing with overflow issues. You guys guesting onto SF will just compound the problem.
Henge of Denravi
(edited by Manoa.5897)
If you guys don’t like what is going on with guesting, please lead by example and don’t guest to those servers who don’t need the help. SF has an incredibly active PvE side and we’re most certainly not a low pop server when it comes to the PvE side of things. We’re already dealing with overflow issues. And every time you guys do this, it’s seen as another BG success, not that server’s success. Not to mention you guys got the opportunity to puzzle it out for yourselves. Please let those other servers with adequate populations have the opportunity to puzzle it out for ourselves.
Henge of Denravi
There will be a lot of spots for natives in the server that BG guests to.
If the server they visit already has issues with overflows, that means BG is denying that server’s native population from participating with their fellow servermates. Instead of coming to SF, please “help” low pop servers who don’t have overflow issues instead.
Henge of Denravi
(edited by Manoa.5897)
We will take BG to sorrows furnace next!
Please don’t. Many of us SF residents already can’t even get into the zone. You guys guesting will just make the overflow situation on SF even worse. Not to mention we’d like to puzzle it out ourselves instead of another server’s players doing it for us.

Please put this boss into instance and add lfg option for him. Typical brainless pug players can’t kill him.
It’s kind of insulting to not know whether the brainless comment is directed at me or not, but yes, that would help. Trough out all 5 tries we had random AFKers that you can’t get rid off.
I remember when I participated in the Anniversary Bash sneak peek, we were able to take advantage of the LFG tool. The sad thing is that the LFG tool is incredibly helpful for an event like this, but they haven’t fully implemented the tool. Which means you have do do some pre-planning and form the necessary groups up ahead of time (which is what the successful servers have been doing) instead of being able to create and join groups on the fly. This whole thing would have been much smoother if the entire playerbase had access to the LFG tool.
Henge of Denravi
If you’re having trouble with getting enough folks to participate or stick with the event, maybe you can reach out to the folks over on Vabbi and Desolation? Now that they’ve had successes, their players may now have a higher risk of encountering overflows because other servers will be guesting on their servers to see how it’s done. You guys would get the benefit of having players who have experienced the event to its end and can give you guys advice. And their players would benefit from being on a stable map where people have a vested interest instead of an overflow map. Could be a win-win.
On our last, 5th try we begged for help. Not many people did help us. That was 8 hours. I feel not only exhausted I feel devastated emotionally. It’s nothing but depressing to fail again and again. I don’t even know if tomorrow I want to attempt again. That’s one of the problems with it being as it is. The wish is there. The concentration is there. And yet it gets us nowhere.
Vabbi Teq players! Desolation Teq players! Please help these folks out!
EDIT – Saw this for the NA servers. Thought it might be another option for you guys to consider (perhaps you guys can create an EU version?). https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/tequatl/Let-s-Organize-to-Slay-Tequatl-NA/first#post2869446

4th try. Morale by now is running low. Very low. People are getting frustrated and end up blaming each other. Some decide to leave mid fight because “we can’t do it” making it even harder for us. It’s borderline nighttime by now. Though I guess it’s somewhat an achievement that UW is still doing about the same amount of damage at nighttime as we did at day time. This time one of the mistakes was that the zerg was too far away for 3 out of 6 turrets to buff them.
If anyone has nothing to do and is on EU, you’re free to guest, join my party and get into the regular map (if you can), though we would appreciate helpful active people. We have enough AFKers on our end as it is.

We’ve now had three servers successfully bring down Tequatl (congratulations guys and gals!). Those of us on other servers who are still working on taking him down would love to hear what strategies and tips & tricks you guys used to complete the event. The videos that have been posted so far give us a good overall view, but it’s tough to pick up out the nuances from the videos and we don’t get the benefit of explanations of the all the hows and whys.
Please share your secrets!
Henge of Denravi
Perhaps because Teq craves tasty froglegs?
Henge of Denravi
3rd Teq attempt on UW. We just can’t get any further. Solved the turret problem by sitting on them for hours, but we just don’t have that zerker DPS to take him down fast enough.
I think I’m just about done today. Wasted all the time that I ever had. Really it needs a nerf.
You guys have made some pretty solid progress from your previous attempts and you guys should be really proud of the progress you’ve made so far (not sarcasm, totally genuine). Have you taken a look at the videos from Blackgate and Desolation for ideas on how you guys can refine your strategy? There are probably some nuggets in those videos that may help you guys out.
Henge of Denravi
The Anniversary Bash video is certainly good as an introduction to the mechanics you can expect to see in the encounter. But keep in mind that it’s a teaser with dev intervention and is in no way a good guide on the tactics and coordination required to get the job done.
Best to look at the Blackgate and Desolation success videos for guidance on what your servers should be doing to successfully bring him down.

This isn’t a “who has the best gear” issue. It’s a learn the mechanics and learn how to coordinate issue. Even the best geared people will be dead weight if they don’t know the mechanics and are unable to work together with their fellow players.
That kind of organisation might exist on Blackgate but it doesn’t exist on servers like Vabbi or Fissure of Woe.
Then use this content as an opportunity to build your server community.
Henge of Denravi
as far as i know PoserGate got help from devs, at least the GW2 fb said they helped them…which isnt legit in my book, they had people that worked on the event there helping.
That is absolute nonsense I was there and the two Anet employees did not help in any shape, way or form.
I wasn’t there with the BG people, but it’s absolutely wrong to claim that the GW2 FB said that BG got help from the devs. They reposted the Anniversary Bash footage and said that the SNEAK PEEK group got help from the devs. Not BG.
Henge of Denravi
I was there and can confirm that the devs used their developer tools to knock down Teq’s health so they could show off the various phases of the event on the livestream. If they hadn’t helped us out, there wouldn’t have been much to show off.
Henge of Denravi
If it is about the LW achievement: I got the boss week achievement “Here Be Dragons” with killing the Inquest Mark II golem. Though it sounds like you have to slay Tequatl, slaying any world boss seems to suffice.
You don’t have to slay Tequatl for the “Boss Week: Here Be Dragons” daily achievement. All you have to do is participate in the event (or other non-Teq world events) for it to count.
Henge of Denravi
From what I have seen of the Tequatl fight, it is nearly impossible to win and I don’t believe the claims that some server has beat it.
Henge of Denravi
No, Tequatl is not the Deep Sea Dragon (aka Bubbles). He is one of Zhaitan’s lieutenants and his champion (hence why he looks undeady and smells rotten).
Henge of Denravi
I was also part of the sneak peek. In the first group.
One thing you should probably know, Manoa. They lowered Teq’s health for the second group when the first failed that badly. Then again, and more drastically, for the third.
I’m well aware. They did the same for the first group as well. I did mention the dev intervention in my earlier list. Again, they did this so they could show off all phases of the revamp during the livestream. If they had not done dev intervention and left it entirely in the players’ hands, they would have not been able to progress far to show off the first battery event in the livestream since it was many people’s first time experiencing this content (not to mention on different builds and and had different keybinds)/

The point I was making was that like Teq 2.0, Hami was challenging open-zone content that required a large group of players and with good coordination. Those players initially never worked together as a large group and had to invest quite a bit of time in order to puzzle out when the mechanics were first introduced. It took time, but the players eventually puzzled it out. And when they puzzled him out, they were able to beat him reliably.
We can’t call for a nerf for Teq 2.0 when the players don’t even have a full grasp of the mechanics.
Fair enough, that’s a solid point. What I’m saying, though, is that full grasp of the mechanics or not, if its not worth the trouble its not going to be worth the trouble. And I’m not sure if Anet is willing to let Teq rot if it turns out not worth the trouble.
Time will certainly tell whether or not the rewards make it worth the effort. But at this point, we have yet to puzzle this guy out. Much less whether the rewards are worth the effort involved (as we have no idea what the end reward is since nobody has taken him down yet).
At this point, it’s simply just too early to cry “NERF!”
Henge of Denravi
You’re thinking raids WoW-style. COH Hami raids were nothing like that. Hami “Raids” were in an open zone that anyone at the appropriate level could enter. Everyone started out as a disorganized PvE mob of 50 random players (the max the zone would hold) who had to learn how to work together to puzzle out the content. Just like Teq 2.0. As time went on, those players puzzled it out, took Hami down reliably, bonded as a community and taught new players the mechanics to continue the knowledge.
Hami Raids were also one of the few ways to get Hami-Os which were the enhancement to have prior to IOs. In the last couple years I don’t recall a whole lot of Hami raids being PuGged, at least not as often as the mothership raids. Everyone <3 their IO set bonuses. And I also remember Keyes and Underground and MoM and how rarely those got PuGged before Keyes got nerfed.
Now if all you’re guaranteed from Teq is the world boss rare…

5 people can rez you from fully dead in 15 seconds. it takes 1 minute to walk back. Until people learn to rez EVERYONE we probably won’t win the fight.

Hamidon Raids in City of Heroes required a significant amount of players and a similar level of coordination. When they revamped Hami Raids to be more difficult and engaging, it took some time for the players to puzzle out how to take him down. The players pulled together, worked together, kept at it, learned the new mechanics and nuances. And once they figured it out, they were able to take Hami down consistently and reliably.
The GW2 playerbase still needs a chance to puzzle Teq 2.0 out. Don’t let less than a day of playing dictate whether or not the new Teq is impossible.
What you’re talking about is a raid. Were people enter with an organized group. Not a PVE mob where there’s lots of randoms upscaling it.

In all honesty i am not one for jumping on the nerf bandwagon but i believe that he does need to be nerfed in this case.
Watch that video by skipping through, you’ll notice that the Dev’s and the people they have allowed to trial it who know the tactics get it to 75%, this is with cheating as a dev uses something to chunk massive amounts of HP off him at one point and then the timer runs out.
I was part of that sneak peak. Please keep in mind the following…
*The developer intervention seemed to be only just enough to progress the event along so they could show off the whole event for the live stream.
*There were three groups of 20 people each participating who had never experienced the content before.
*The number of people we had participating was nowhere near the 80 players the devs said they though would be needed to take Teq down.
*We players were playing with a bunch of people we had never played with before and playing mechanics we had never encountered before.
*Many of us players didn’t have any time to digest the new mechanics.
*Many players didn’t have time to familiarize ourselves with the LFG tool and take advantage of it before we had to jump into the fray.
*We players were dumped onto pre-generated characters and many of us were playing unfamiliar builds. Most folks barely had a chance to swap out to different weapon sets.
*All the pre-made characters were on accounts with keybinds set to default, which very much felt like playing with your hands tied behind your back if you rely heavily on customized keybinds.
Due to the above factors, the Anniversary Bash sneak peek is NOT good support/evidence for nerfing Teq 2.0.

We clearly are missing something.
The event is now halfway on Jade Quarry.
We have a coordinated guild on teamspeak manning the turrets.
All people are using the waypoint when downed, as you can see in the screenshot.
The fingers and undead on the turrets are being killed….
The healthbar doesn’t move at all.If i remember correctly, when the trailer and dev stream came out, the devs themselves had to use cheats to get the healthbar low enough to reach the second stage….that should say something…
I wonder if they took scaling into account?
Event just ended, we got him down to 80%
-You don’t need nearly that many at the turrets. Based on my experience during the sneak peek, you shouldn’t need more than one to two full team at each set of turrets to protect the turrets and their operators. The bulk of your people should be at Teq, not the turrets.
-Rez the dead instead of forcing them to WP and run back. You’re loosing too much DPS by forcing people to run instead of just rezzing him.
-Did the bone walls spawn at any time? If so, Teq will go full invulnra until the bone walls come down. If the bone walls spawn, you need to pull people off of Teq and get them to focus on the bone walls.
Henge of Denravi
I guess that mentality “show up and get rewarded” is deeply rooted in this games population.
That’s just as deeply rooted as the “don’t rez ‘lazy’ people, force them to WP” mentality. Sad really.
Henge of Denravi
Also, you need to get people rezzing the dead instead of forcing them to WP and run. The devs very much emphasized during the sneak peak that the run back takes people out of combat for 60 seconds. When you have a large group of people that you’re forcing to run back, that’s a lot of DPS you’re loosing. You can get people back into the fight FAR faster if you rez the dead. Get rezzing and you’ll likely do better.
Rez while they’re down. The first time around people waited to be rezed, so 60% of all population was dead most of the time.
You should be rezzing if they’re dead too. Having so many people running from the WP is hurting your DPS. You can get someone rezzed up from full death and back fighting far faster than it takes for them to run back from the WP.
Thing is though people aren’t ressing so it ends up being faster way pointing.
And we’ll never see a successful completion of this event if players are intent on not rezzing others.
Henge of Denravi
You should be rezzing if they’re dead too. Having so many people running from the WP is hurting your DPS. You can get someone rezzed up from full death and back fighting far faster than it takes for them to run back from the WP.
And like I said when we did it that way the first time around there was no DPS, because 20 people would get wiped, 40 would try to rez, there’s a poison cloud on the rezers and suddenly there’s 10 new dead ones.
That blame lies with the people on the turrets. Should have been cleansing those clouds so people could rez.
Henge of Denravi
Cant rez 30 people while you have to protect the turret users getting attacked constantly, getting posioned every two secs. and then tide comes and everyone trying to rez dies. It really does require alot of co-ordination and alot of skilled players. Too much to be expected in this environment.
Need to be breaking up into sub-groups. It will be a lot easier to get the amount of coordination needed when the LFG tool is fully implemented.
Also, us Group 2 folks during the livestream pretty much had a full wipe from the tidal wave due to battery event failure. We all were able to get each other up pretty kitten quickly.

The devs confirmed that rewards will be given at each 25% health increment. Trash mobs spawned during the event will not drop loot to prevent champion farming.
Henge of Denravi
Tequatl just spawned and was done the second time. Take note from these pictures that his stacks are removed and people are re-running instead of laying dead. Still not gotten past phase 1.
Did the bone walls spawn at any time? I’m assuming not since you said his stacks were removed. But keep in mind that if the bone walls do spawn, Teq goes full invulnerability. You HAVE to take the attention off Teq and onto the bone walls to proceed forward. If he gets full stacks and those bone walls spawn, it will slow you tremendously.
Kill those fingers! They drop poison clouds and don’t want them around! It’ll make things much easier for your turret folks (so turrets can focus on decreasing stacks and buffing allies).

Judging from that screenshot, looks like your turret folks were not using their cleanse powers to remove the poison clouds. And you likely need people dedicated to taking down the fingers to prevent more poison.
