Hey everybody,

We hope you enjoyed the livestream with Johnathan Sharp, Matt Witter and Mike Zadorojny. The guys are currently enjoying lunch, but after they’re done they will be back to answer your follow-up questions.

So, ask your questions in this thread and tune back into the Twitch TV channel at 2:00pm PST (GMT -8) where they will be answering questions from this very thread.
https://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2

Here are a few tips on how to ask questions so we can better answer them:

  • Make your questions clear, understandable and provide appropriate context
  • Please ask questions relevant to the topics discussed in the livestream.
  • Don’t make your questions over-specific. Allow the guys room to answer a question with more than “yes”, “no” or “we can’t talk about that yet”.
  • We cannot answer a question or part of a question involving specific release windows. This is because our process is iterative and planned dates can and do change. We will not promise a date we are not committed to.

On to the questions. Please keep this thread on topic and restricted to questions for the livestream only. Thanks!

Toypocalypse

in Wintersday

Next

Objective
The goal of Toypocalypse is to protect gift dolyaks and survive malfunctioning toys for 10 rounds.

  • Each round has five waves of hostile malfunctioning toys. The UI tracks which round you’re on.
  • Toys increase in quantity every two rounds. The amount of toys is tracked in the UI.
  • From lowest to highest, the toy quantity levels are:
    • Skirmish
    • Assault
    • Siege
    • Onslaught
    • Toypocalypse

You fail the activity if any of the following things happen:

  • All five gift dolyaks die.
  • All five players are dead at the same time.

Weapons

Players can find and use 3 weapons in this activity.

  • Toysmasher
    • Damages multiple enemies at once.
    • Skills allow for some crowd control.
    • Your go-to choice for resource gathering.
  • Toy Cap Rifle
    • Single-target, high-power ranged weapon.
    • More damage, but less mobility.
  • Toy Repair Gun
    • A finesse weapon—not always needed. Proper use is extremely effective.
    • Has a steep learning curve. It’s hard to master, but don’t give up.
    • Has many uses, so experiment to find what works and what doesn’t.

Defenses
Players can build turrets and walls to defend themselves and the gift dolyaks. Smash buildings and trees to create resource bundles for building defenses. There are 2 resource bundles: wood and snow.

  • Wood Bundle
    • Builds ballista and catapult turrets.
    • Upgrades ballista and catapult turrets.
    • Repairs fully upgraded ballista and catapult turrets.
  • Snow Bundle
    • Builds walls and snowman turrets.
    • Upgrades walls and snowman turrets.
    • Repairs fully upgraded walls and snowman turrets.

Turrets
Each defensive structure plays a different role. Each defensive structure can be upgraded twice.

  • Ballista Turret
    • Single target.
    • Low damage.
    • Rapid-fire.
  • Catapult Turret
    • High damage.
    • AOE.
    • Delayed fire.
  • Snowman Turret
    • Single target.
    • Moderate damage.
    • Applies chill to targets.
  • Walls
    • High health.
    • Slows advance of enemies.

Misc
Extra tips to help you survive.

  • While participating in this activity, you’ll be unable to heal or regenerate health through your own skills. To recover health, you must travel to the map’s center and enter the healing field.
  • After each level (every two rounds) a mysterious gift box drops near the center of the map. It contains presents for players.
  • After each level (every two rounds) hay appears near the center of the map. It partially heals gift dolyaks.
  • Explore the map. You may find other things that will help you survive Toypocalypse.
  • After each round, you have a short time to build your defenses. The amount of time decreases as the activity progresses.

Tixx's Infinirarium

in Wintersday

Posted by: Mark Katzbach

Previous

Mark Katzbach

Content Marketing Manager

Next

Objective

Tixx’s Infinirarium is home to Tixx’s toy-creation machine. Help him get his toys and machine in working order while watching for stowaway skritt and malfunctioning toys that slow down production.

  • Each day of the festival, a new toy enters the Infinirarium, bringing with it new challenges and rewards.
  • Defeat malfunctioning toys or pesky skritt to get the toy machine working at peak efficiency and claim each day’s rewards.
  • The reward for successfully completing each day’s airship event is a toy mini blueprint for that day’s toy.
  • Beware the fickle whims of Toxx, Tixx’s assistant golem, who seems to have a mind of her own.

Tips and Tricks

  • Tixx is always up-to-date with the inner workings of his lab, so speak with him to find out what’s happening around the airship.
  • Malfunctioning toys are dangerous—don’t be afraid to destroy them.
  • Toxx sometimes requires a special skill to take down. If you’re having trouble, search your surroundings for something helpful.
  • Skritt will get in your way at every turn, so keep an eye on them.
  • If you’re having difficulty finding the enemy, use the teleporter inside the airship to reach the platforms surrounding the toy-creation machine. Sometimes things go wrong up there.
  • Once Tixx arrives in Lion’s Arch, you can pick events from any of the previous airship tour days to experience anything you’ve missed or to replay your favorite events.

Winter Wonderland Jumping Puzzle

Next

Objective
Winter Wonderland is a challenging jumping puzzle that will either end in cheer or a you-size smear. Jump across a precarious path of melting snowflakes, hop over exploding presents, and flee past massive rolling snowballs. Deliver your present to the children gathered at the end of the puzzle to receive your reward.
Highlights

  • Players have a set amount of time to traverse the puzzle’s dangerous jumps and hazards.
  • The Frostbite debuff will slowly whittle away at your health until you die.
  • There are three distinct portions of the puzzle: snowflakes, presents, and snowball dodging.
  • Fall, or fail to reach the end in time, and you’ll be sent to the observation area to wait for another turn.

Tips and Tricks

  • Watch for warning signs before snowflakes melt and presents explode.
  • Use the peppermints to avoid rolling snowballs.
  • Keep your eyes open for mortar shots from pesky skritt.
  • Socialize with other players from the observation area and plan your next run.

Bell Choir

Next

Objective
Bell Choir Ensemble is a noncombat activity that lets you play Wintersday and Guild Wars – themed songs on handbells in a challenging rhythm minigame. Play the correct notes at the right time to score points and earn presents!
Highlights

  • While on stage, play notes by using skills assigned to 1 – 4 and 6 – 9 on your skill bar.
  • During each song, colored spheres travel across the stage toward you. When the notes enter the inner circle and stop moving, it’s time to play!
  • Each skill is color-coded to match the sphere and section of the stage it travels down.
  • Miss a note, or play a note at the incorrect time, and you’ll take damage.
  • Play a note at the correct time and your health is restored.
  • Hit every note in a song to gain 100 points at the end. Every note you miss will subtract points based on how many total notes are in the song.
  • If you lose all your health, you miss out on points for that song and must wait until the next song to play again.
  • There are a total of six songs, ranging from easy to hard as the playlist progresses.
  • Presents are awarded based on the songs completed while remaining on stage. Survive all six songs and get the highest score you can!
  • Stick around after the sixth song for one minute of Free Play. Play whatever you want, collaborate with people on your stage, and get creative!

Tips and Tricks

  • It helps to position your camera so that it faces directly down onto the stage, zoomed as far out as possible. This makes it easier to see the notes before you play them.
  • If you’re having a hard time with the difficult songs, stick around until the playlist repeats. You’ll still be rewarded for completing the easier songs.
  • Try playing the number keys like a real keyboard, with one finger on each key. This helps with large leaps between notes.
  • If no one else is playing on stage with you, the other parts will play automatically.

Snowball Mayhem

in Wintersday

Next

Objective
The objective of Snowball Mayhem is to be the first team to 500 points. Points are scored by retrieving Wintersday gifts and returning them to your base. Bonus points are scored by defeating other players with unique snowball fight skills.
Highlights

  • Custom combat professions
  • Custom profession-based utility skills
  • Custom downed skills
  • Power-ups

Your weapon skills are determined by your choice of combat profession. You also have an additional utility skill that is based on your character’s open-world profession.

Supporter:
Supporters control areas of the battlefield and assist their allies.

  • Throw Snowball: A quick, basic attack. Tracks your target.
  • Healing Breeze: Heal yourself and allies in a cone in front of you. Allies gain regeneration.
  • Icy Ground: Create a patch of slippery ice. Causes enemies to fall down.
  • Ice Wall: Create a wall of ice that blocks enemies and projectiles. Allies can interact with the wall to pass through it.
  • Snowroll: Roll around as a giant snowball and knock back enemies.

Heavy Gunner:
Heavy Gunners take and deal a lot of damage. They can only attack once they’ve drawn their weapon, which has the double effect of slowing them down and granting them passive health regeneration.

  • Draw Rifle/Fire Snowball: Draw your gun and fire a basic snowball attack.
  • Powder Spray: Fire a cone of snow that chills and damages enemies. It can also repair a supporter’s Ice Wall.
  • Jump Shot: Use your snow rifle to blast yourself toward a targeted location.
  • Overcharged Shot: Fire a giant, exploding snowball that launches enemies backward.
  • Defensive Bubble: Create a bubble that knocks back enemies and deflects snowballs. You can still use Fire Snowball while using this skill.

Scout:
Scouts are infiltrators and assassins. They are the fastest class and can use stealth. Additionally, the scout gets a damage bonus when hitting enemies from behind.

  • Quick Shot: Fire a fast, basic snowball shot.
  • Evasive Shot: Leap away from your target, evading damage, and launch a crippling snowball.
  • Rapid Fire: Fire a barrage of snowballs at your foe. Snowballs have a better chance of hitting your target in close range.
  • Sniper Shot: Charge up a long-range shot. The longer you charge, the farther and faster the snowball flies and the more damage it deals.
  • Snowblind: Vanish in a puff of snow, blinding enemies and granting you stealth.

Utilities

Elementalist
Summon Ice Elemental: Summon an ice elemental who follows you and fights with you.
Necromancer
Frostmark: Create a mark on the ground that causes a chain reaction of frost novas when triggered.
Mesmer
Clone: Summon a clone that wields the same weapon as you, even a Wintersday gift bundle.
Engineer
Snowman Turret: Build a snowman turret that fights with you. Detonate the snowman for additional area damage.

Ranger
Snowball Trap: Place a trap that launches a volley of snowballs toward its center when triggered.

Thief
Icewurm Venom Trap: Place a trap that freezes enemies in place when triggered.

Warrior
Rush: Rush at your target and knock it down with a powerful kick. You will reflect snowballs while rushing.

Guardian
Slingshot of Understanding: Summon a slingshot spirit weapon to fight with you. You can command the slingshot to fire a volley of snowballs at your target.

Downed:

  • Throw Snowball: Basic snowball attack.
  • Icy Ground: Create a patch of icy ground around yourself, causing enemies to slip and fall.
  • Freeze Beam: Channel a beam of cold energy at your target, freezing them in place.

There are also power-ups scattered around the map that can quickly turn the tide of a skirmish.

  • Damage Boost: All of your attacks deal extra damage.
  • Speed Boost: Your movement speed is increased.
  • Piercing Shots: Your snowballs travel through targets, allowing you to hit multiple foes.
  • Skill Recharge: Your weapon skills recharge faster.
  • Health Regeneration: Your health is restored over time.

Basic Event Overview

Season’s greetings!

If you’re looking for information on the Wintersday event, you’ve come to the right place. This post should serve as a guide to help you experience everything this winter festival has to offer.

Lion’s Arch

The iconic central city of Tyria will once again serve as a hub for the festivities. After you take in the decorations, check the map for new icons related to the holiday.

The Toymaker Tixx Instance

Tixx will be asking players to climb aboard his airborne workshop to help him build toys. Gather a group of your friends, because this unique five-player instance is a perilous adventure that changes with each toy made! Every major city is getting a toy of its own, so look for the instance entrance beneath the airship as it makes its way across Tyria. Tixx has been kind enough to publish the following itinerary for his journey:

10am PST, 12/15—The Grove
10am PST, 12/16—Divinity’s Reach
10am PST, 12/17—The Black Citadel
10am PST, 12/18—Hoelbrak
10am PST, 12/19—Rata Sum
10am PST, 12/20—Lion’s Arch

Don’t worry if you miss one of the stops. Once Tixx arrives in Lion’s Arch, you can play any day’s version of the airship instance you’d like!

A Special Toymaker Tixx Gift

After Tixx arrives in Lion’s Arch on the 20^th^, you’ll want to visit the toymaker in the Grand Piazza. Tixx has promised to deliver a special one-time gift to every player that visits him in person. Just remember to visit him before the holiday ends on January 3^rd^.

Limited Edition Tixx Toy Minis

Toymaker Tixx is making five special toys this year. Building the toys yourself is no easy process, but if you successfully complete an airship instance, you’ll be rewarded with secret ingredients needed to make a toy mini. Each toy requires a unique frame and several toy components. Complete each city’s airship instance, and you’ll have more than enough ingredients to make any toy you’d like.

Activities

We have several instanced minigames for you to enjoy, all accessible through activity NPCs in Lion’s Arch. Play them all, or stick with your favorite—there’s sure to be something for everyone.

Wintersday Jumping Puzzle

Test your jumping skills in a winter wonderland while carrying presents to toyless children. But beware: between the skritt, the snowballs, and the melting snowflakes, you’re in for a challenge! Get to the end before frostbite takes its toll, and whatever you do, don’t fall.

Present Hunting

Rumor has it that Tixx’s airship is splitting at the seams with a dragon-size cargo of gifts, and large presents are falling off the ship across Tyria. You can explore the world in search of these gifts, but be careful when you open them; you never know what’s inside!

Gift Boxes

Embrace the most celebrated tradition of Wintersday: loot! During the holiday, you can earn gift boxes for all sorts of content. Inside, you’ll find treasures like tonics, weapon skins, crafting materials, and more. Of course, not every gift contains exactly what you want. Tixx has been known to donate some rather undesirable materials. But you can trade in unwanted gifts for a chance at something better! To give it a go, speak to one of the Lionguard gift-exchange representatives in Lion’s Arch.

Achievements and Wintersday Title

There are sixteen new holiday achievements for this special event. Complete any twelve to be granted the title “Apprentice Toymaker” and join the ever-growing ranks of Tixx’s cheer-spreading krewe.

Thanks for the reports everybody. An update to the swear filter has been implemented, which should address these issues. Also, sorry Rising Dusk, but I used your post to test the fix to a recently implemented bug. No content was changed, even though the post says it was edited. I only forced it to pass through the filter again.

Again, thanks for reporting, and please continue to report any bugs with filtering you encounter.

Meinke misunderstood your request. This is a bug with the swear filtering. There is a thread which has been used to report these, but it has fallen to page 2, so it is understandable that it went unnoticed. Please report bugs and false positives in the swear filtering in that thread. Thanks

I’ve seen this thread pop up a few times. Allow me to set this to rest. We have no plans to change or disable the swear filter. The only changes that are made are fixes to false positives and other bugs, which is ongoing. As this thread does not contribute to Guild Wars 2 discussion, it will now be locked.

Hey everybody, sorry about the delay in getting this info to you. But here is the situation as it currently stands.

Yes, we had an issue with the Karka chest distribution. The issue is currently being researched. The situation will be addressed in the future. We do not currently have a time-frame for how soon we will be able to fix this for everybody.

At this time, you do not need to send a ticket to support to get a chest. We will post updates as more information becomes available.

Again, sorry for the delay on this message, and thank you for your patience.

Is the mail only appear to the character we used for the event? I rather play my alt while waiting.

Between my GF and I, we did the event 8 times. During half way into the Ancient Karka fights, the game either crashed, stuck on the loading screen when reviving at the waypoint, or because of the new build, removing the event so we weren’t able to finish it. We spent the whole day on that event.

The mail is sent to your account, so no matter what character you are playing on when it comes it, you will get the mail. Additionally, the chest in the mail is account bound, so you are free to put the chest in your bank and move it over to whichever character you wish to open the chest with.

As we mentioned last week, for those players who were not able to get the rewards for the final Lost Shores event because they were suffering connection issues, we will provide rewards for their participation in the event. Thanks for your patience while we worked to resolve this.

We will hand out the rewards via In-game mail today – Quick FYI… it might take several hours to run the script, so do not panic if you do not immediately receive it.

Okay everybody, this argument is getting a bit circular now. What’s important is the following.

  • The forum population is not a majority, but does provide valuable feedback which we do take into account, along with feedback from other sources.
  • The silent majority is not all in-favor or against. Their opinions vary as much as any group of people’s opinions tend to.
  • They are players just like you. They voice their opinions by either playing or not playing.
  • Others not on the forums show their opinions on their personal blogs, fansites, twitter and facebook.
  • Everybody’s opinions are important and valuable.

I hope this clears some things up. I’m going to close this thread now. Please continue to provide us with feedback to help us to continue improving Guild Wars 2.

In the strictest of terms, the number of people who post on the forums is a minority of the game population as a whole. The forums do provide a modest, self-selected sampling of the player population, but so do fansite forums, twitter and facebook.

Thanks for the response. Out of curiosity, for what purpose, in ArenaNet’s view, are these forums? Since you can get similar samplings from the aforementioned fansites, twitter, etc., I’m thinking perhaps ArenaNet has something else in mind?

First off, we definitely value feedback from the forums. Just because the forums don’t make up the majority, or the only sampling, does not mean we do not value your feedback.

The forums, however, are multipurpose. The forums are meant to be a place for Guild Wars 2 players to gather, share wisdom, help each other out and more. If you haven’t been over to the Players Helping Players subforum, I recommend you check it out. The purpose of that subforum is for questions to be asked and answered by other players and it serves that purpose. The account issues forum’s aim is for players to get account help from ArenaNet staff. The Black Lion Trading Company forum is full of people speculating on the trading post market. Fan-generated content is full of threads sharing fan art, fanfiction and machinima. There are some really cool things shared over there.

A game’s community is not limited to one forum though. Some people prefer facebook, twitter or fansites for sharing and discussion. Others, like yourselves, prefer official forums. We understand that not everybody is participating on our forums and it behooves us to pay attention to feedback from all avenues.

It’s not a matter of putting the blurb together, but for the team to investigate what can be done and how it will be done. That said, I came back to my desk to find an email with information on what is being done about the situation.

We have confirmed that we can provide everyone who did not have the opportunity to loot the chest with a reward for their participation. All affected players will receive a reward regardless of whether or not they have contacted Support. We’re working very hard on this, and you should have a reward in your in-game mail early next week.

I hope this alleviates your concerns.

Please do not take the unstickying of this thread as an indication that your feedback is being ignored. We are paying attention and we are taking your feedback here, and in the recent survey into account.

However, the teams here are unable to respond individually to every concern presented here, as they have their normal responsibilities to take care of, as well as parsing through said feedback.

As I’ve stated before, your feedback is important to us, and this thread will remain open, for the time being, to future feedback on this subject.

45 characters is the maximum length for a topic title on the forums. It is this way to prevent titles from being cut off when viewing a thread. This is not a bug, this is by design.
