uh because they are all playing ranked. Big surprise?
Game is great, except WvW. Just salty people on forum. People enjoying the game are playing the game.
PS I would only go necro if you plan to go reaper, vanilla necro is boring in PvE IMO (I even deleted my 80 necro before HoT)
OTOH tempest is meh is PvE.
Sooo vanilla ele = good
reaper = good
Both? I have 9 lvl 80s. About to do 10th.
Humans and asura are always best IMO unless its heavy armor then norn.
Sylvari can be good if you have a specific theme in mind before hand. Like all white or all black or all purple or whatever.
Also you haven’t mentioned if you plan to play their spec tempest or reaper or vanilla as they are different…
(edited by Mightybird.6034)
Weren’t people complaining cele ele’s rotations were braindead easy back before HoT? When D/D was OP
GW2 is better than ever IMO
Sweet lord if this is the best state its seen pvp wise I dread to think what it was like before o.o
I never said it was the most balanced ever. But I am having the most FUN ever.
For instance, mesmers are super annoying OP now in PvP but I like where they are better now than where they were 2 years ago when thieves kitten all over them and could lolsolo them before they could get to a point. And since they sucked in PvE for the most part too they were just bad overall (yea yea, I know you can make them work and they aren’t THAT bad 2 years ago but I still like where they are now better.)
There are a ton of examples like above I could give. Like there are a ton of OP BS builds but at least people HAVE builds now. So many builds were pigeon holed before, like seriously, if you played engi at one time it was meta to bunker turret…that is so dumb. I’d rather have OP scrappers than fight against TURRETS.
See what I mean? Maybe it was more balanced in the past, but it was BORING and less classes had less roles. People seem to forget that. Or maybe haven’t been playing as long, I dunno.
Let’s not forget how much of a joke rangers used to be a few years ago in both pve and pvp. Like, even worse than mesmers.
Necros where a joke in pve before too now they have reaper.
And for those of you who forget or weren’t around I don’t mean just a joke, but often kicked and made fun of…
Like at this point, sure there are more OP builds than others, but at least you can play whatever class and be good and viable at something. Warrior is not as bad as people make it out to be just because it can’t compete at the top 1% in pvp. And its still played in PVE a ton.
(edited by Mightybird.6034)
GW2 is better than ever IMO. People only come to the forums to complain (this place is terrible) I only came here because of wondering about wintersday.
And jeez to the guy above, its nothing like SWTORs gross model.
You buy HoT and you have everything unlocked. If you had bought GW2 base before it went f2p you have everything unlocked except HoT. If you haven’t paid for anything you basically have an unlimited free trial with restrictions. It’s how practically all MMOs have worked through out time. Same as WoW except no sub fee for GW2.
I was going to write more about how bad SWTOR is but…cmon if you can’t see how obvious they’re attempt to take advantage and milk cash out of their players is..I can’t help you.
(edited by Mightybird.6034)
Revs are pub stompers. They are good in very low levels of play vs newer, unorganized players (all of their sustain requires YOU to attack them)
I could be wrong but I don’t think we’ll be seeing much of them at high levels of tourny play.
So, what’s about 2vTempest? What’s the result?
:(
I think most players are PvEing in the jungle. After a month and that dies down more (everyone has their elite etc) people will start filling up wvw like whatever it was before for your server.
I can’t imagine a map change would kill wvw. Especially since its easier to defend which is the opposite of EOTM k train.
You realize MMR is separate for ranked and unranked? So if you only played ranked and got up to pro level you will still be placed at newb lvl on unranked.
Gotta win some matches before you start seeing better people.
Thank you anet you made my day.
Not this again….
The majority (like 98%) of the rev community wanted this change.
Your ‘facts’ are wrong.
/thread
the real pain is going from 0 to 400 hp for herald.
Have the utilities in the elite specs finish way faster and push the trait line back.

make the jungle HP unlocks account wide
get rid of any mastery reqs for HPs (lore 4, poison resist, etc)
Yea HOT is slow going at first but once you figure it out it’s super fast. I ran an alt through 200 points in about an hour or two most of that waiting on day/night cycle for Canopy
Please add me and help a brotha out!
(if you do HP run again on another char I’ve got almost all 4 maps opened up WP wise just having trouble figuring out the HPs…)
There’s a bit more that goes into this beyond just Condi vs Power.
For example I’ve been doing world completion and I’m now in the last 9 zones that are all noob zones and I one shot everything with a Hammer. But there’s a lot that goes into that. In addition to the fact that I am 80 in full Ascended Berserker gear, I also am a Herald and have perma Fury running. This is important because when you down rank you lose most of your crit. I only have 15% base crit, but with Perma Fury I’m boosted to a unheard of 55% for low level content. This means if I crit, I pretty much am going to one shot something.
My Necromancer actually is rediculous on a Power Build and my Plague Blasts in Shroud hit just as hard as Hammer on a Rev.
this ^.
By the gist of the OPs post something tells me you were comparing an open world max lvl 80 rev doing world comp to your leveling condi necro. Ofc the rev is going to do better in that situation he kitten well better with all the resources put into him.
HPs are account wide
Meaning you do them once and all alts get them
HPs no longer have any mastery gating
except for the baseline abilities needed to get to them (gliding and such, meaning get rid of the lore 4 reqs, poison, etc)
This leaves them still challenging while getting rid of almost all complaints (champs can be further tuned as time goes on.) And with the guides coming out if these changes are done simply getting to them will be the only hassle, or finding a party, so you should be able to do it in a full day, or a few for the 1 hour play time crowd. Much more reasonable IMO and compromises between both schools of thought (auto getting them and working for them.)
10-30kb a sec :/ been DLing for the last 30mins. Anyone else?
jungle, tyria, and wvw – don’t think there is any other way
I will be going to get some Tyria HPs as well.
Seems a bit counter intuitive though that the first thing you do when an expansion drops is go back to farm the old world -_-
Nice change.
Was really hoping to hear at least something about the elite spec discussion by now though.
If you don’t have the mastery to be able to unlock something then take it off the map. It is only confusing and annoying spending time trying to get somewhere only to find I don’t have a frog language to unlock it or whatever.
What on Earth are you on about?
You need only look at the state of the forums.
Good post I like it.
It should be noted that mastery unlocks are account bound, so the second set of numbers is really way too high. I’m guessing it’d take 2 or 3 hours per alt.
Personally I have a LOT of alts, and getting them all specs is seriously next to impossible even best case scenario. I doubt it’ll ever be as quick as 2 or 3 hours (for 40 hero challenges?! much of which requires a group.)
(edited by Mightybird.6034)
About 10g an hour for farming in GW2 (old numbers yes, dungeons/SW… maybe more now that HoT released) +over the long term when you count exotics and good drops and such. ) Less if you aren’t doing things efficiently but 10g is easy for math
Minimum wage is about 7.25 bucks (US)
So to unlock a specialization:
One char with 100% world completion i.e. already had 200+ pts (we are getting the fastest numbers at about 18hours)
you need:
180g or $130.50 USD
so for alts or new players: (we can easily surmise we 2x that since they wouldn’t have the 200+ pts) i.e. 400 needed
360g or $261 USD
Now let’s say you have 9 alts or one of each class (even though I personally have more)
And we’ll go ahead and assume your main has world completion but your alts don’t
180g x (8)360g = 3,060g
or 130.50 + (8)261 = $2,218.50 USD
- PS edit: 18h assumption is not completed just completed enough to play the elite spec power wise (i.e. not the full pts, doesn’t have it maxed yet. So for the OCD folk…MGHMOYS)

I have had no problems looking at a map, seeing where a commander tag is and heading there. What stops you from doing so?
Not seeing any com tags at all?
@ cerpin seriously come back after you have several more characters with elite specs, especially ones that didn’t already have world completion. I’d be really genuinely interested to hear if your opinion is still the same.

This post is a reply to those who complain about the new hero point requirements.
It has now been 18 hours since the launch of new expansion, and I have already unlocked everything in reaper – every skill and trait there is – for my necro through exploring the new content without guides to help. So I really dont understand why there’s so much whining here about the hero point requirements. Except that some people have been writing before they think or actually try the game themselves, or some people just want to have everything without any effort.
It was fun and relatively quick to gather all the required hero points by running around and exploring the new areas. I’d even call it “playing the game”…. geez.
Remember It still is only the first night of expansion! So go spend some time ingame, enjoy the content and just relax, Have fun! You’ll get your hero points in no time.:-)
k
do it with 10 more characters and tell me when you’re done.
kthxbye
:-)
i said that you can use your current build to enjoy the new content.
Since the rest of the argument stems from that…
No. Some of us have been playing the same kitten build for 3 kittening years. We are not enjoying it anymore. We are quite tired of it. We are not enjoying it.

I’m quite mindful that I need to get 2-3 more characters done QUICKLY while I can still roll up on a Champ and 2 Vets solo and expect someone to dive in before I die.
haha +1
Some of us play GW2 because we don’t like the WoW-clone game design with rising level caps and similar crap, but there is not much difference between mastery grindwalls and raising the level cap.
This game just lost much of its appeal for me.
+1 or is that +2 or + 2,000

I’ve had 3 years to work on world completion, and 9+ months knowing it’d be relevant — thought actually I picked up about 55 points in the last 2 days.
I’ll likely look around a little longer today and start getting my Daredevil worked up while the maps are still flooded with people.
The system needs to be set up with new players and alts in mind i.e. what an MMO thrives on.

It been just over 18 hours and I’ve unlocked everything I wanted for my main including the GM I intend to use. Needed one mastery level of gliding and one mastery level of mushroom bounce. Still trying to pick some ‘low-hanging fruit’ Hero Challenges, but basically I’m good to go anywhere.
Day one Dragonhunter. I can live with it. Still need another 90 points for the armor/runes, but I don’t plan to use either so that’s just showing off
.
Sorry but that’s what, 18 hours plus world map completion? soo…how many hours again?
And honestly, even if it was 18 hours for all 40 (which it isnt even close)…I have 10 chars….180 hours to unlock all my elites?! And in reality its way more than that without any world completion.

~20 hours if you already have 200 pts
closer to 30- 40 hours if you’re a rev or don’t do world map completion…
Earn them yes…id be ok with it if it was after like ~8 hours. BUT I have 10 characters. I am not spending ~300+ hours getting them all their elites…
(edited by Mightybird.6034)
sounds like a confusing UI issue led the OP to jump the gun
No, elite means elite.
ok and I guess in guild wars 2 we are all in guilds that fight each other in gvg battles and thats all we do, strictly, gvg, and guildless people do not exist. cause thats how names work
o^)
When you start a game at level one you are facing level one opponents. Starting an elite spec means being effectively sub level 80 while facing post level 80 content.
^
its really very simple
To train this spec you must complete traing in all other specs, it requires 400 points to train the whole spec, its name is ELITE spec and its change your class portrait. So… its 100% ELITE spec and to get it you ,ust complete challenge. Its usual mmo practice and we are playing MMO game, so why it shoud be changed? Cause some of players dont have any friends and have some social problems?
wat
Its not elite, its flavor text. Doesn’t matter what you do to get it the devs have it balanced so that its no different from base class. it isn’t an upgrade. How do you not get that? Its from the devs own mouths.
confused – can you spvp with elite specs without unlocking? Or do they need to be unlocked in pve before you can use a spec in pvp?
Uhm….no. Roy only changed the functionality, but the DPS remains the same. The blade used to apply ONE stack of vuln and 50 % of the damage going out and ONE stack of vuln and the other 50% of the damage coming back. What Roy did was just Put the 2 vulns and the 2 50%’s together into one swipe.
^
can confirm bug
Yes, exactly this i want to say. To get your ELITE specialization you have to complete some challenges with your friends and thats what we want from MMO game.
Pls stop using that word’s implication as an excuse for your own opinion when the devs have already said the elite specs are no stronger (NOT ELITE) than the base class.
It is simply flavor text.

For all 40 its definitely gonna take most people, probably 30 hours?
For 20, if you already had 200, and had played/sploiled the beta some people I think have finished in about 15-16 hours.
With this said, to be able to unlock the elite specialization you only need 60 points, which isn’t that much, so you can still experience the new specialization by mixing the olds ones with the new ones.
Err have you played HoT? No one wants to use a kitten 60pt whatever intro spec. Especially in this difficult HoT content. You’d be 2/3rds of a character.
I’d be a lot more OK with the grind of masteries if they weren’t really required to enjoy the new zones and the elite specs and such.
Grindy but not required is basically how the general concept of masteries has worked in all RPGs since I am aware of the first ones in the late 1990s.
Dunno why anet had to make them such a prereq to fun in this case.
I thought raids were the elite group content, and that there would remain a clear demarcation between Dynamic Events that required a lot of people and stuff like Hero Challenges that do not. It’s a bait and switch on Anet’s part to change the way maps and map exploration works so fundamentally, especially since doing Hero Challenges are the only way for my characters to reach their full potential.
this exactly
