I would like it if it werent locked behind the mastery grind.
They really should have given you the first three automatically. Or sped them up somehow (like you get a point from completing a living story segment.)
I have gliding and mushroom. I can tell you need updraft as well just to ENJOY all the dang work that went into these zones. I’ve played about 8 hours and am exhausted. Normally can only play 1-2. I can’t imagine how much worse it’d be if I hadnt been able to grind it out/learn this entire day today.
All in all this was a very sour first day but hopefully it’ll be good later.
After actually playing HoT I agree with you OP (had the opposite opinion pre release.)
I’d like to experience the new content on the class/spec I choose to play please.
And my goodness…I have 10 characters….getting each one their elite…no way.
Same, somewhat empty zones. Lots o fail events (for the big meta zone events.)
Feels more like two or three months in, not launch day.
They are definitely over tuned. I don’t recall anyone ever asking for challenging hero challenges.
Break bars seem to be over tuned as well. Can never break one 1v1 and never seen a group break one ever, in 8 hours of play today. Only time I’ve ever seen one break is when its a group vs a vet (a mob meant for 1v1) with a break bar.
I ran into this too. Very few people around. Didn’t have enough to complete several events.
Although the first map (for the first two hours) I was on events were completed frustratingly fast. Especially pre – glider. They’d get completed before I got there.
But ya. After the first few hours (5am-7am pacific) I’ve been in semi empty zones the rest of the day.
I didn’t do that but I did mess up my dungeon tokens. Bought medium armor instead of heavy armor…. (it was 5am in my defense, pre coffee)
So now I don’t have zerk armor and am wearing soldiers >< (unused tokens from AC)

I dunno I am starting to agree with the OPs lot.
Was totally for making it need work to play an elite spec.
But after spending ~8 hours playing today (normally I can only play 1-2 hours at most) and only getting 40-50 hero points (60? I’m too tired to go look) I just want to play HoT content with my elite spec.
A lot of us bought HoT specifically to change our class, not grind masteries. I am ok with the mastery grind separate but not tied into elites…
As there is no way I’ll be able to keep up my current pace, its gonna be awhile before I get my (fully usable) elite and I wanted to experience HoT with it. Rather than this being a fully joyous day its just becoming a bit bitter.
I’d only want a GS if it had a unique twist. Like it was a 1200 range condi weapon that attacked very fast or something.
If it was the standard melee power type it’d have to be really well designed, like something between daredevil staff and reaper GS maybe (fast, twirly, martial feel.) Something that’d feel more like a katana than the normal giant unwieldy swords we normally get.
Probably through herald unlock. As we know it has skins at the end of it.
Isn’t it supposed to be about 3 per month? The first 3 come at the end of this month, so the next ones would be about 2 months away.
About 20 hours from now. Maybe a bit less.
13h 30 mins
First day – jungle/rev/hero points how can I not?
Second day undecided depends how much fun I have in jungle and what I get done
Third day on probably Halloween until I get bat shoulders
ideal group = scholar
solo = strength
average group = rage
bad group = strength
soooooooooooooon™
confirmed headstart?!

Say that to revenants that are only allowed to use specific utilities for their attunements.
Ya I’m actually going to be one of those rev mains and am confused how that will work exactly..
Roy even more important for you to release Rev a day early to let us get some hero point grind in

As you can see, the grandmaster traits are among the last things to be unlocked.
Not sure why I’m arguing this here though, seeing as you all seem to love mindless 1-spam grinding.
Oh kitten. If its truly in order like that…. I take back what I said. No need for personal attacks.

Enough of hearing people saying you have to WORK to just play the basic game content. This is not work, this is a game for fun!.
Sure you need to grind for cosmetics and that’s totally fair. But have to grind for the basic content we already paid 50 dollars for? Hell no.
Except its not basic content. Its an optional spec.
And for all we know with the first 200 points we have access to the full traitline + weap and the remaining 200 pts is the utilities (who cares right away, just as effective without in almost all cases) and the skins.
Which means its possible people with 200 pts can unlock a fully working elite spec on day one, minute one of logging in.

Yeah, usable in the first 150 points if you want to slap on an adept trait and the new weapon and run around with only 2 master and GM traits slotted, sure it’ll be “USABLE”
Source? Oh wait you don’t have one. For all we know we could have a complete build (weapon + full traitline) with 200 points and the remaining stuff is the new utilities (most arent gonna use em or would be just as effective without) and skins.

That is so condescending. I don’t call map completion, all skill point challenges in Tyria, and buying HoT in the first place entitlement.
Except if you have map completion you’ll be able to unlock the majority of the elite spec on day one. Considering the last bits of the 400 pts are skins and such. You’ll have a very playable elite spec w/ 200 pts.

Also, Colin didn’t state that world completion got you an entire elite spec minus a bunch of gear. He said it would get you about halfway, so your hypothesis about 200 hero points unlocking the entire trait line doesn’t hold much sway for me.
ColinJohanson:It’s 400 points total to unlock everything in an elite spec training line – I just can’t remember off hand how many points folks have currently if they have done all the existing ones, but it’s right around 200. The rest you’ll need to earn in jungle to unlock the deeper skills/traits/etc. in the training line.
You only need 60 hero points to begin using your elite spec, the points you spend after that continue to unlock more skills, traits, skins, etc.
Again, hero challenges are worth 10 points each in the jungle. So no you don’t need to go do 200-400 jungle challenges.
…
If you’ve got all the hero points in the existing game you’ll have enough to train about half the elite specialization training line on launch day.
confirmed skins as part of it. Likely itll be very usuable by the first 150 points or so. So for those that already have 200 points they basically will be able to unlock it on launch and are crying for nothing.

So you know how easily accessible the hero challenges are and exactly where they are and the quickest routes to each of them so that players who want to play the elite on day 1 can get them without ruining the first time map exploration too much? If so, please share. I’m sure there are players who want to know.
I’m personally in no rush to get to the elite, but some players are and now many of them get to weigh the desire to play the elite to its full potential and the joy of exploration for the first time. And that’s honestly sad. That many players have been forced into a position where they are between a rock and a hard place. Either way, many players will end up disappointed.
Ya we really suffering with these first world problems. Forbid we actually have to make a choice on what to enjoy first and have a little patience. So so sad. Like maybe we could start a charity for these poor victims?

This is not grind…this is playing content to unlock the class.
Had Arena Net decided to gate these behind the personal story, it would have been effectively the same thing. Gating access behind content.
This…this is the most normal thing in the world.
Get to level 80, then play the expansion to unlock the class.
Right? I feel like people have become so entitled they don’t want a game anymore. They just want to hit character create and have everything in the game maxed out for them and done.

You’re telling me you want to rush through the map to find up to 40 hero challenges to fully unlock the elite? When you can only explore a map for the first time once.
Personally I will take my time. I was just trying to make it clear how quickly you’ll be able to get your elite if you rushed it.

The worst part is that even if we can convince Anet to reduce the hero points needed, it will still probably be too much. I was having nightmare’s about 170 points.
I mean some of us have Jobs and families. How are we supposed to unlock this in a reasonable amount of time after paying for the expansions ahead of time? If I had known this was going to be introduced I would never have bought the expansion.
Youre talking about half mapping two whole zones of hero point challenges….Seriously this is too much for you?

So..you’re complaining you’ll have to PvE for a day or two for an elite spec?
No matter how pure of a wvwer you are, I’m sure you’ll check out the pve side of the expansion for a bit. 40 hero challenges, (most likely more like 20-30 challenges for existing non revenant characters) is not very many…
Most hero “challenges” take like 30 seconds or less to complete. Let’s say the expansion version is tougher/more inolved and takes a min or a lil over.
Besides the mapping, you’re only talking about an hour of hero challenges when you get down to it.
Vast majority will have their elite spec within a few days. That is hardly a mega grind.

Upcoming Global Change to Player Minions
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Mightybird.6034
Hey all,
…
We felt like minions were in a good place for PvP so we didn’t want to change them there for now. Thus, the interaction between players and minions in PvP combat will remain the same.
…That’s a joke right? While ranger pets are more or less a thing because they have to be, Ranger Nature Spirits, Guardian Sprit Weapons, and Necromancer Minons and even Elementalist Elementals are extinct as an entire class of utility skills in sPvP and WvW. Even Engineer turrets have largely been bred out of the competitive environment and you can’t expect gyros or Reaper’s shambling horrors to change that.
On purpose. Remember when turret engi was a thing? How “fun” that was? No one wants to play against A.I./mobs in PvP… they shouldn’t ever be meta in pvp.
Computer’s are too stupid.
Brain + pen + paper for everything!
haha ikr … there’s gotta be an old time saying about how its bad to use an over complicated tool for a simple task in some language somewhere.
No one has argued that it isn’t ~3days 14 hours till HoT. Actually about 3 days 13 now or about 85 hours.
The discussion was about when you open his link, if you aren’t near where he lives it ain’t gonna work properly.
(edited by Mightybird.6034)
That’s the reason i was pretty confused and felt trolled :>
Website’s fault! Deal?
Hey we all make mistakes. And I was trying to say earlier how I understand why a countdown timer would make one think it’d be global. Especially on a more international website like that. Or I would have thought you were trolling as well.
Yes, because i changed my pc’s timezone and the countdown doesn’t change o.O
The website likely detects your location by your router information/ISP/blocks of geoIP. So changing your computer’s time zone wouldn’t do anything. edit apparently there is also some websites that can use javascript to detect settings from local machine. So it’d depend. Further Id’d depend on browser, such as chrome as a lot of java/papi/napi disabled.
(edited by Mightybird.6034)
I like how you just can’t believe me. lol
edited: deleted attachment so my location isn’t permanently known
(edited by Mightybird.6034)
Why don’t we just add:
Rune of Godmode: Chance on Hit: 100%
Proc: 30,000 damage and makes the user invuln for 5 sec
ICD 5 sec
~~~surrenders~~~
haha I am trying to see it from your perspective as much as possible as I don’t think you are being a troll just misunderstanding.
It doesn’t work, simple as that. It shows the viewers time zone without accounting for whatever time the creator has it set for, which will obviously make it wrong, i.e. not global.
In other words, depending where you open the link the total time of the count down changes depending on your time zone.
(edited by Mightybird.6034)
eh 3 days for guild mission reset isn’t so bad, especially since the 1st day or two you likely won’t get to play much (lag/bugs/server issues)
Just because they have a time zone chart does not make their count down global.
Seriously man, slow down for a second and realize how obtuse you are being. You are trying to argue more than one person’s perspective (that shared the same perception when clicking your link) is magically false. Good luck with that.
(edited by Mightybird.6034)
I ask again. What’s the problem?
Your timer doesn’t shift for time zone. It is not global. You assumed it was.
So it shows a countdown to 9 am friday when I open your link. But the release is midnight friday for me.
When I made a countdown for my time (pacific) you opened it and saw it a countdown for midnight germany time which would be incorrect obviously but its correct for me……
I repeat, its a local countdown clock, not a global like you assumed (or maybe the website said, can’t trust something just because it says or implies.)
Both sides have merit.
Would really depend on how easy it’d be for them to implement.
If this will be a timer for “9 hours to HoT Launch” it is right… But 12.01 am CEST != 12.01 am PST… Are you trolling or won’t understand?
That’s what we’re asking you.
I remember camping fondly.
First off to a lot of the replies… a lot of what he was talking about came from EQ long before WoW.
Do I want it back? Hmmm probably not. Camping requires a high level of artificial difficulty, a hard coded trinity system, and severe punishments for death generally.
Time until Friday, October 23, 2015 at 9:01:00 AM ([redacted] time)
I’m guessing it simply takes an end time and counts down to it, using basic geolocation to assume your location, but doesn’t autoshift for time zone changes.
Thus why I see it as 9:01am here when it should be ending at 3:01 here.
….. the geolocation is MY location, including MY timezone… the timer ends when HoT will release (9.01 am CEST or 12.01 am PST and yes unexspected-> 3.01 am easy coast)
What’s the problem?
its showing 9 am regardless of time zone. Says 9 am here too…and I’m in the US. So obviously doesn’t work for everyone lol.
Jesus… A timer for a global event works for everyone! Doesn’t matter where you are… HoT will released at the same time. A timer is a timer…
I can set a timer für 3.01 am east coast if you want… but both timers show the same remaining time – believe it or not O.o
Advice: You should never write a timetravel novel
They could but why would they? There are decent alternatives to strength runes.
That economics guy, John Smith, likes things to be priced appropriately and I would think he’d consider them over priced. (but maybe not, I can’t speak for him)
So there’s one reason.
Guys, the release date had to be late October so they can get their boxes on shelves for Black Friday. The code didn’t go along with the plan, so now its release-in-stages as pieces come on-line. Its really as simple as that.
Doesnt mean we have to find it okay, like I said business practice wise its just another shady thing IMO, something which seems to become a standard at Anet.
They ask quite some money for what we get and then they don’t even deliver stuff from it, yea sorry I don’t like such practices.
Fairly standard practice in all software dev. Has nothing specific to do with Anet. If you find it so shady then maybe you shouldn’t be here? But youre going to find it diffcult to stick with any software brand.
This is from someone who knows the industry, not from someone white knighting. Its not great that they do it, and there are other things I dislike but its a normal practice. Software by its nature gets updated, and is rarely ready for launch. But other factors force you to launch. Its the same for microsoft or google who has practically unlimited resources compared to anet.
Value would instantly collapse
Honestly so what? I mean I am asking. Unlike silk or whatever is there supposed to be significantly (like 10,000% compared to some of the 2 silver ones…) value in certain runes/sigils over others? Unlike say t6 vs t1 mats where there IS supposed to be.
its ok I could take it or leave it.
Maybe have it less pronounced?
I wounder if its one of those effects that have been reduced? They said they reduced a lot of FX in that post today.
Eh the main thing I’d like sped up is the bloodstone/asc dust stuff. Since I’m usually refining it 1-5 amount it goes super slow (as it starts slow then gets sped up). And I have to do it 3x so I can’t really leave since I have to start a new one in 15 sec anyways. It just means I’m staring at nothing for 60-75sec twice a day or so.
In other words just make things refine starting at max speed.
