Orphael – zerkers aren’t meant to be 1v1ers if they were then we’d all go zerk. Pretty simple. A DPS/zerk/marauder thief isn’t meant to 1v1 a bunker/sustain/bruiser….the whole point of a bruiser/bunker builds is to counter the zerkers and fight on point…..

Thiefs are meant to +1 i.e. 2v1 an ele. And you are plenty good at that. I have seen very good thiefs. You should be more conerned with mesmers as they are now basically better thiefs than you.

Nice ideas, but there’s basically 0 chance of them starting over at this point (in open beta) and implementing that much change/work.

You’d be far better off in offering suggestions on how to fix the current tempest than a total rework like that.

You realize they promised up to 3 elite specs where only 1 will be on HoT launch right? This could be an idea for a future elite spec.

Throwing here one a idea i just had

Instead of putting your attunement on a 20sec cd, put all your spell on a 20sec cd (exept AA). Note i said PUT and not ADD, meaning if you spell is on like 30sec cd, it goes unaffected. Allows to keep attunement dancing (understand: overloading water isnt suicide annymore), if you trait cdr on overload AND cdr in one attunement, unused spell goes on ~13sec cd which is perfect for tempest. You spend 10-12sec waiting for attunement recharge, now you spend like 1-3sec waiting for cd to go ff, you cast your needed spell … BAM 5sec in attunement spend. Overload avaible, press and repeat.
Still need a buff to overload to be worth casting tho

That’s an interesting thought.

SO the 2-5 skills go on a 15-20 sec (depending on traits) CD rather than the attunement.

Even if this elite was a utility on a 30 sec CD I don’t think I’d ever take it…

It needs another layer even after bugs are fixed (I assume it affecting autos and things are bugs.)

Another layer being something like applying arcane shield to all allies within a radius. Something.

Tempest feels week.

Overload is not worth getting off. The three drawbacks (staying in an attunement, then channeling it, then getting a lock out of attunement) is far too hard for the reward. Either get rid of one of the drawbacks or make them less severe or increase the numbers (dmg, healing) on overload drastically.

Yeah hence why its so strong.

They are copies of thief skills as a suggestion so that there is some slight (SLIGHT lol) chance of devs actually doing this. If they only need to make one skill (the auto attack) then maybe we might still get sword…if the devs want to give us new skills I’m all for that as well.

Evade and Strike or perhaps gain distortion and strike, not sure which would be more befitting of an elemental asssasiny type. I could see this either like Heartseeker OR like larcencous strike.

CDs would have to be pretty short as we’d be competing with thieves. I could see it balanced in a way to have no CDs at all. Yes they are supposed to be very powerful – unlike what the elementalist normally has this would be his only # 1-3 attacks. I.E. Something different….

Skills 4 and 5 would always be the warhorn skills and you’d need to take the tempest line etc so keep that in mind.

The fact that you have the same 1-3 skills in all attunements means Overload works better with this! (less need to swap around to maximize all abilities) Its also an actual difference in play style change rather than more of the same.

Just a quick thought since we know they won’t scrap/throw away the work they put in already. What we really want is a zerk spec, similar to mobile thief play in pvp.

So what if equiping a warhorn off hand (nothing main hand) “summoned” an arcane weapon to dual wield turning warhorn into a psuedo-two hander? Similar to if a thief equips only one weapon mainhand and nothing off hand gets a unique 3rd skill (even tho no one does it, you can in fact do it, so the tech is in place.)

Perhaps it could summon an arcane sword? That lets one teleport on a short cooldown. You could even keep the 1-3 skills the same for each attunement, since its arcane based and not elemental (just give them super short cooldowns, maybe even no cooldowns?) So that would minimize the work the devs would need to do and maybe put this in the realm of possibility..

TLDR: Equiping warhorn offhand with out a main hand would ‘summon’ a sword of arcane energy and give you sword skills 1-3 effectively making warhorn 2h and giving us a viable zerk spec in pvp

For those who like warhorn as it is they could still use it for support and go dagger/warhorn and it’d stay the same as it is now.

Only problem would be sigils/AR in PvE. (would be missing one slot) Could simply give AA an inherent 5% dps increase and call it a day or just design it with PvP in mind and understand it’ll be a bit lacking in PvE meta.

Ele filled all rolls before there is nothing new tempest can fill. You do know ele is the jack of all trades job in gw2? Any way it looks like ele has more dmg potential where tempest has more support.

So a few things..

You don’t seem like a new player so where is this belief coming from? First I mean gw2 doesn’t even have strict roles obviously (in other words all classes are a jack of all trades to some extent), second in terms of what someone is providing and by how much utility, that award clearly goes to engineer over ele. They have access to everything. Ele can do a lot but they can’t stealth. Engi also has med-med hp/armor. *If anyone is the jack of all trades its clearly the engineer. *

Also in regards to the other discussion about needing stealth for a zerk build in pvp – medi dps build for guardian is a good example of a viable zerk build in pvp that doesn’t require stealth.

So there are plenty of ways to do it. Ele clearly DOES NOT have everything and DID NOT need more support. We need a viable zerk build in pvp.

Is an opinion. Whatever I show you you’ll simply say they weren’t decent enough to win the argument.

I am not wasting anymore time with this. If you have played the game longer than a month and not just troll forums its pretty obvious which classes can spam one skill vs which take actual thought out combos. Video proof is hardly needed when you can go play the game.

Something more simple and what I’d rather see is a sort of PvE arena where you fight a random existing boss with like 5x hitpoints and double damage or something + one random environmental hazard. Could come up with a lore reason fairly easily.

No trash mobs, or rather, maybe two guards you take on right next to boss, but go in with a group, fight a boss, get your reward, be done in 5-10 minutes. No annoying skips. Just straight to the boss fight.

How long does it take to buy karmagear for 30 million ,forge and salvage that ,and sell the linen ?
Got all the vendor skins ,and most legendaries i like.
And i dont think HoT is adding some sort of karmasink, all i want is some vendor who sells cool skins for more than 2000 karma a piece…

Technically the t3 cultural weapons are like 60,000 karma a piece and fairly cool (I particularly like peacemaker)

It already is account bound. It comes on ascended gear, not exotic, which is acount bound, I switch around items on my toons, depending on what I want to play quite often.

Mind if we change MF to work this way?

Good luck doing a level 50 without the proper AR. “Oh, I’m dead again… because I literally cannot survive the random AR checks that happen multiple times a minute.”

I know of plenty of people who have 10-20 AR in 30s or 40s and get carried by their/our guild group :P Mostly you just have to 4 man the boss fractal. Its not so bad up to it.

sorry but your argument is invalid.

basically all shoutbows and celestial engis have switched to eles so it’s only logical that you have that many now because what else should they play if they want to keep the same role.

and why have they switched? because their builds have been trashed instead of keeping them alive and viable and the same will happen if they trash ele. maybe it’s gonna be 2 necros next or whatever is good enough.

Teams always ran the same – its just that other cele builds got nerfed and now cele ele is the only viable one so they run 2.

Ehh, if you decided to take powerful auras you could have a 5-person magnetic aura for five seconds on a 30 second cooldown, which isn’t bad at all.
I wouldn’t though because that’s the guardian/mesmer’s job, not mine.

Not sure it works the same as a lot of the cheese walls do (like with lupi) but that is a good point. But then you probably wouldn’t want to rely on an engi for that either… so the distinction is minor, and I guess both classes coudl fill the reflection niche if it was missing about the same, guess I was wrong, apologies Sirbeaumerdier

I’ve seen lots of necros, few rangers, guards, few wars, and lots of mesmers counter d/d cele ele. Your argument of no but an ele that is super skilled ! Well ok, then a necro that is super skilled !!

They have plenty of counters. Skill doesn’t enter into something like this. You can’t say gimme a build that will face roll a top level player… a top level player can play the weakest build out there and still do well.

Ele has a reflect, it’s called magnetic aura.

That and their passive defense (makes a bigger difference than most people like to pretend on forums) are what stand out to me the most.

Engi’s can customize their kits to the situation too, which is quite nice. An observant engi is best at filling in any gaps in a party.

Also “hate” is such a strong word. People “hate” stuff all the time as well as find things often “disgusting” (also a misuse of the term)

No hate is about right. I just tried doing zephyr’s achieves in drytop (the JP) couldn’t do it after obsessively trying for over an hour, physically got nauseated and so frustrated I want to punch kitten in my wall. (why the hell is hole censored? wtf oh..lol… “a” + “hole” hah)

I wrote some but realized I was unclear before I even posted. I DO like collections. I dislike the achievements like random tasks that seem stupid and I go “why am I being rewarded for this?” They just feel like a chore to check off.

Like diving off of drytop JP and hitting that stupid small water area. Is it difficult – yes. Should it be rewarded? Um no. Or well, most of the LS2 achieves being tied to biolumi armor (only a few are hard, its more the repetiveness of most of em, requiring, for most average people, do have to redo the story quite a bit to get em all)

Why are they tied to rewards? Why do I need to do some stupid, crazy, made up task…

I only do them for the skins. I suspect a lot do too. For the future my hope is to have less significant skins tied to them. Granted its too late for what we have (the milestone achieves radiant/hellstone and lumi armor being the major ones.) But please no more of those types of achieves in HoT (where its some random difficult task for its own sake.) Or any more skins tied to total AP.

If you like achievements then do them for fun. You don’t need tangible rewards. Tie the rewards to more general things (like a zone – silverwastes good -the part that ties lumi armor to achievements in story – bad.)

GW2 is about skilled and fast paced gameplay. Further you picked a class that is probably toward the top of the faster/skilled spectrum of it.

I’d just reroll until you learn the game better. Warrior or guardian are quite fun, and in something like soldiers gear or cleric for guard the pace is a bit more reasonable for a new person.

PvE is meh cause there are no damage mods in tempest traits

For PvP though if you enjoy the staff niche it will probably work. The shouts may be better for support over cantrips and at the very least earth overload would be good for escapes/trouble in staff if focused. Though you’d probably never want to try casting the other overloads.

Except you can do higher level fractals. They are just tougher without the AR. Its just the min maxers that want X amount of it.

Further – as has been said, if you really want to run all your characters through fractals (i dunno why) that is why there are infusions. Put the AR in the jewelry.

That said, the system IS CLUNKY. And needs a bit of an overhaul. Not even sure how exactly… its just meh. Maybe just make it like magic find (account bound) and have it either 1. completing a fractal scale bumps your account’s resistance up or 2. its like luck, you buy and consume the AR and level it up that way. *

Both ways can keep the AR that drops/is sellable on TP as you can still get extras that way on rings and infusions and stats and what not.

what im saying is yeah some things are gated behind things but there not, to a degree that its ridiculous , badges and tokens don’t require anything to get, but when it comes to fractals , you need infusions after level 10

You buy them from the fractal vendor for 75 relics. They are basically free…. the ones you are thinking of are optional for like +4 extra stat and extra AR for infused pieces which you do not at all need to do. I sell those….

You can get 14 (6 armor 6 jewel +2 weap) +5s = 70 AR from the fractal vendor and then putting it in asc armor/jewelry/weaps. That is all you need to do all fractals currently.

pvp = dagger dagger celestial amulet (stats) melee ele – water arcane fire traits

pve/wvw (other builds but generally) = staff ranged berserker (stats) fire air x (arcane or water)

How about instead they just give all characters another 1-2 bag slots? As you’ve said, there are so many items now…Even more coming with ascended salvaging I think and legendary/precursor crafting.

I’ve got all 18-20 slot bags. Find the price ridiculous as well so havn’t bought any. Yet my character is constantly full half way. That’s pretty absurd. This isn’t a f2p MMO…sure feels like it tho…

PS they are like never on sale it seems either. Putting them on sale a ton more would help as well…

Warhone is a support wepon and tempest is more on the support side then on the dmg side. Ele is the dmg build atm where tempest is the support def. Think on thoughts lines when it comes to tempest in the front line so more like a gurd then a war.

warhorn still lacks stab and leap both of which a guardian has more of than a warhorn tempest will. Which will make no one ever want to fill that place with a tempest.

Currently you’d want zerk armor in both pve/wvw (except for roaming where’d you want more cele/pvt)

Trinkets are another story and generally more suitable to be swapt out on the situation as well as what you feel like.

Air/arcane/x usually water so I can heal/cleans/run through mobs and not worry about it. (air super speed minor + fresh air = a lot of move movement speed when stuck in combat and you have to run through something)

I LOVE the transmutation charge idea. I have nearly 1,000 skins in my wardrobe and would like to vary the looks of my characters now and then (especially when I start to hate something they are wearing day after day) but I can not do so without ponying up $$ to do so. Sure, we get 3 charges/month …. which is a pittance when you have half a dozen or more characters.

wat. i have more charges than i know what to do with. I get so many from pvp/map completion that I change things on a whim. I wasted charges just to get the achieve sooner… And I’m still sitting on 30+

Well, it’s highly unlikely, that we get 10 or 25 man raids, because that’s what the world bosses are for. I hope it’s something like the scenarios in WoW but better.

Right it could still be 5 man instanced stuff, just not dungeons. Like you just go straight to fighting a boss….that’d be kind of nice. Like a PvE arena. (just totally making stuff up here)

I had hoped for dungeons in HoT. So who knows what we’re getting and what they consider challenging? I think he was just saying, “we wanted to let you know about this update, and no, this isn’t the teaser we mentioned earlier.”

That is saying they consider fractals the end game 5 man instanced content. While we probably won’t get 5 man instanced combat with HoT it doesn’t preclude it in that statement either, only that it wouldn’t be the end game version. All of HoT won’t be endgame per se. 80 content, yes. But not “end game” 80 content like fractals are supposed to be.

We could, for instance, be getting 8 man instance dungeons for all we know.

Glad about the update to fractals though – finally.
