Hello Chidori,

I currently run a PvX guild in Yak’s Bend. We have a very active pve base. We do dungeon runs on nearly a daily basis and are fairly casual and accepting of people and their build/gear preferences. Currently our focus is on the new living story content and getting achievements for our members, but this does not mean we don’t dabble in other areas of the game.

Hello Linux,

I run a PvX guild on Yak’s Bend with about 150 members active members. We are most active during the hours of 7pm-11pm Central Time with 20-30 people online at that time. We have been around for nearly a decade since GW1. We get together every Friday to do guild missions. We are also very helpful to new players as we believe that having a new player base is important to keeping the guild active. We also make use of TS3 to socialize.

100% guild vs non-100% guild

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mireles Lore.5942

Mireles Lore.5942

I have run a guild in Guild Wars 1-2 for a decade. I am usually the only leader depending how you would define the term.

Recruiting is your biggest burden. My guild has floated between 150-300 members throughout Guild Wars 2. Luckily I have had some good people willing to help out. I usually have a dedicated “Chief of Staff” that his soul responsibility is to recruit in game and I usually handle the PR outside the game. You should have a clear vision of what kind of community you want your guild to be and what you are out to accomplish. If you want to be a huge guild where people loosely know each-other or you want a community that is more personal and smaller in nature. You need to be able to tell people why you are making a guild in the first place.

Your upper ranks should have a clearly defined job and role in your guild. They should be there because they help you maintain the community, not just because you like them.

Rep in this game, how you handle it, and what you require will make or break your guild. I always felt 100% rep was always to harsh and creates a barrier when you have to make such a commitment, especially for a guild that is just starting. That being said, you also don’t want half, if not a quarter, of your roster not repping at any given time. Roster activity is key in retaining people. You should have a way to clear out people that are not helping keep your roster active. The way I have found to strike a balance with this is…

Have a initiate rank that is specifically there for people to try out your guild without 100% rep. The rest of the ranks above it are to recognize 100% commitment and their level of social participation in the guild. Clear out people who do not rep often and have a clear policy for people to pledge 100% rep and move up.

Have a guest rank. We tend to hold events, especially guild missions every week. We allow anyone to come and they are removed when the event ends. This ensures you always have more than enough personnel to perform but yet keep people off your roster that would not rep often. Repeat guests will return and often end up joining your guild if they like your community.

I think timmyf gave some sound advice. It is never about you, prepare to give, give, and give without ever seeing anything in return. You will have to make tough choices like choosing one sub group of members that are friends over another. You will have members you find important up and leave on you. You will have to be prepared to remove people. You will need to be a people person for every single member.

XHSA-seeking members interested in LS2 groups

in Looking for...

Posted by: Mireles Lore.5942

Mireles Lore.5942

Recruitment Objective Summary:

XHSA is currently looking for new members. We are a 10 year old guild that has been in Guild Wars since the very beginning. While everyone is welcome to join us, we are currently focusing our recruitment on players interested in experiencing the Living story together with guildies and friends.

Our current goal is to seek out players that would like to experience the new story content with other players regularly upon release, after release participate in organized maps, and complete achievements. We currently have two times set up. One is whenever the patch goes live that day. The 2nd will be around 7:00pm CST (hour after reset) for people getting home from work.

We are a social and community focused guild. Our primary goal above all others is to be sure members are given the opportunity to be included and make friends. We believe that the use of teamspeak if an effective means of building a core community and personal relationships.

Players that like to converse over Teamspeak 3 are highly preferred, will get the most out of their guild experience, and are often selected for guild dungeon/fractal runs before requests reach guild chat.

Below is some general info about our guild.

Server: Yak’s Bend

Roster Count: 150+ members (112 in Full Representation)

Peak Hours: 7PM – 11PM CST (20+ online and representing during these hours)

Minimum joining requirements: The only requirement we have of new members is that they log on at-least once a month and rep regularly during the time they spend online. We do not require you to be on Yak’s Bend for PvE but will be needed if you want to WvW with us. (full rep not required)

To request an invite please send me an in-game mail on Mireles Lore.5942

What We Have To Offer:

We offer a helpful community that focuses on building relationships with newcomers and veterans alike by helping them become more effective at accomplish their goals as well as fostering a casual zero discrimination gaming environment. We do not exclude members from dungeons, fractals, or WvW runs based on experience, rank, stats, class, build, gear, or anything else. If you meet the minimum level requirements set by the game the runs are on a first come, first serve basis. If needed we will happily educate you on how to be effective for the activity in question.

We also host community events. Our most popular and consistent are guild missions every Friday around server reset. We also host jumping puzzle trains, raid-like world boss runs, and the living story chapters. Some will be open to the public as this is a guild that likes to give back to the public community.

We do have global guild buffs for as long as you are representing. We offer increased gold, magic, and gathering rates 24 hours a day 7 days a week. In edition to these during Saturday decreased way-points costs and increased WvW exp gain will be active all day.

We also have a very active teamspeak. We strongly suggest the use of teamspeak for most of our runs as it is the most effective means to communicate directions in and out of combat. We also encourage it for just social use as it helps bring a more immersive social experience.

Quality over Quantity Membership:

Here at XHSA we take pride in keeping our roster active and clean. So you can expect that our roster is not inflated with people not active in this guild. We remove people that do not represent often or have become inactive in the game. What you see is what you actually get. While we do take pride in keeping our roster clean. Members returning from inactivity are always welcome back.

This is not an alt “join it and forget it until guild events” guild. New members (Initiates) are expected to represent regularly during the time they spend online. Initiates are checked every month for activity and are removed every month if they have not logged on and represented within the last monthly check, or are seen online and excessively not representing for the vast majority of time they spend online.

We do offer guests invites to nearly all of our events and welcome repeat guests, so please keep this in mind when considering our guild. We also offer longer inactive tolerance and increased privileges for members that have pledged and maintained 100% representation. (3 and 6 months of offline time for Agents and Special Agents respectfully) Currently over 75% active members are 100% representation members a ratio we try to maintain.

We will not try to impose 100% rep obligation upon you, it is our belief that if we provide a superior gaming experience members will pledge this on their own.

If you have any questions or wish to join, best way to reach me is in-game on Mireles Lore.5942

So what is this company's focus?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mireles Lore.5942

Mireles Lore.5942

This company’s focus is to make money, nothing more, nothing less. Anyone willing to argue different is lying to themselves.

To me it looks like Anet is going the way of EA games. Minimal effort for maximum profit ratio.

It seems to me corporate culture and the quick buck has taken precedence over making a quality product.

That day that the developer said that the most recent Twilight Arbor path was “to much work” to ever do something like that again. I knew that this game was going to die within 2 more years from today. It seems that the people in charge of this game are more concerned about their quarterly profits than they are about quality, which tends to happen when the publishing company and the developing company are two separate corporate entities.

This game will be made to suffer minimal effort for maximum profitability which will be the new business model as long as people are willing to throw money at this type of business model.

This game is about a year away from being free to play. Why? its because “credit card” gamers have become easy and lazy. To these gamers, to compare how long it takes them to earn a in game reward compared to how long it takes them to earn the real money required to buy that reward, and to choose the obviously quicker path, has become a actual rational thought process. This should scare the hale out of people that actually enjoy quality challenges inside games.

It is really the fault of the majority gamer community, because alot of us found it acceptable to translate game progress to the effort of real life currency, this is not a job, you are supposed to play the game to enjoy it, not to earn shiny stuff that give you in game social status. The practice of extracting real world money will not stop until gamers stop the practice.

This practice used to be impossible in Guild Wars 1 without breaking the TOS. And here we are in GW2 wondering why compelling content, precursor scavenger hunts, or expansions haven’t come out when the real money is to get players to desire highly time/effort gated digital items that are so compelling they swipe their credit cards.

It takes absolutely no effort for them to design a legendary, or any black lion item skin when compared to actual content that you pay for. So stop spending real money on them if you want real content. As of right now…. them designing black lion skins is entirely more profitable to them designing real content. Minimal effort for maximum profit.

As someone that has never spent a dime outside of the box price. You have all been made to play as fools. Real content won’t come until you stop giving them or any game developer money for the minimal effort that is their real money game shop. STOP SWIPING YOUR CREDIT CARDS IF YOU WANT REAL CONTENT. Even if you have to pay for that content… rather have the option to pay for an expansion than to pay for this crap in game shinies.

They don’t care about making you satisfied with the product

They don’t even care about making your experience pleasurable.

The only thing they care about is what is in your wallet.

Stop using your credit card right now.

Summary:

XHSA is currently looking for new members. We are a 10 year old guild that has been in Guild Wars since the very beginning. We are focusing our recruitment for players that are new comers to the game as most of our current membership are veteran members that have been in the game since it came out, but we will accept membership from anyone willing to join. We believe it is most healthy for a guild roster to have both new and old members as there are more activities and goals to accomplish together.

We are very helpful to new members, offering advice and knowledge to better help achieve their goals. While we like to be helpful, we feel it is important for players to progress through the game naturally. We will not pressure you into being rushed through the game but are merely here to answer your questions, share our knowledge on the most effective methods to accomplish the goals of your choosing, and offer in-game assistance when you want it.

CDI- Guilds- Logistics and QOL

in CDI

Posted by: Mireles Lore.5942

Mireles Lore.5942

I am not sure this falls under logistics and quality of life, but I feel like guilds need more guild goals to work towards and something that makes an individual guild more unique than the next max unlocked guild.

Proposal Overview
Permanent perk trees with mutually exclusive benefits.

Goal of Proposal
The goal is to give guilds a progression to work on as a guild and make individual guilds more unique and specialized. I feel like when recruiting for my guild we are all offering the same things. PvX, WvW, Guild Buffs, All guild missions unlocked, ect ect. It would be nice if we were able to offer different things than every other established guild out there based on what members participate in.

Proposal Functionality
Perks will require influence and merits to unlock. The tree should be structured in a way that not all perks can be unlocked at one time. Some will have to be chosen over others. You could make 3 trees such as WvW, PvX, and PvE.

All trees should have general perks that apply broadly to all modes but also have some specialization trades.

WvW tree could include permanent version of perks that we already enjoy but on a permanent basis, maybe even some new ones, I am pretty open to suggestions on what some of these might be. This tree will have the strongest and highest perks involving WvW as well as some perks not available in other trees.

PvE tree would include permanent perks focused on dungeons and fractals. This tree would offer things like increased reward rates on things like tokens and an extra item to roll out of chests as well as increased magic, gold, and experience gain rates on dungeons and fractals only. The perks involving dungeons and fractals should be exclusive to this tree.

PvX perk tree will be the generalist perk tree. While it includes things that apply to both modes they should be weaker than specializing in WvW and Dungeons trees. It should also include some exclusive perks that are related to guilds and open world. Such as maybe another build queue and reduced costs/build times.

The perks are very open to suggestion or debate. While tree and some of the perks in them should be mutually exclusive, guilds should be allowed to reset their perks at a cost of losing their investment in the current tree.

Associated Risks
Reward and stat creep should be considered when making perks. If stats are included in perks they should not be overbearing to the point where it causes high imbalance to the point where it is a major deciding factor in a fight. As for rewards, there is also the economic influences like inflated currency and supply.

I like how people and John Smith like to pretend that releasing information to Dulfy is the same thing as making info public. As if that information didn’t reach certain circles before it reached others in a public fourm. By the time it was uploaded on dulfy that night it was already to late to act on that information.

The only true way to make sure information is publicly released is to release it in the game first via the update before anywhere else. Not every player uses or much less knows about dulfy.

As for the black lion collections and the new mini collection achievements… It was a real cash grab move to include things that are primarily gemstore and then change the rules on people on the mini-collections so they have to do it again. Things that are advertised in the gemstore have no business being in game goals.

[XHSA][PvX][Yaks]LF newcomers to the game

Some Quick info about us.

Server: Yak’s Bend

Roster Count: 150+ members (112 in Full Representation)

Peak Hours: 7PM – 11PM CDT (20+ online and representing during these hours)

Currently over 75% active members are 100% representation members a ratio we try to maintain. (3 and 6 months of offline time for Agents and Special Agents respectfully)

We will not try to impose 100% rep obligation upon you, it is our belief that if we provide a superior gaming experience members will pledge this on their own.

If you have any questions or wish to join, best way to reach me is in-game on Mireles Lore.5942

Feature pack 9/9: feedback

The Good:
Trading Post, very needed rework and will be good once the bugs get worked out.

Color Commander Tags, Much needed for coordination after everyone gets over that “hey we got colors now”.

Dungeon owner fix: Great don’t have to worry about the wrong person rage quitting.

Various map fixes like being able to see party members in different maps even if they are not in your same instance. Very Cool.

The Bad:
Leveling system, for reasons already made obvious by so many here.

The Collections, poorly executed. The rewards are very skimpy for how much effort and resources you had to put into them. Some of them are even gated behind RNG to even unlock. Players should not have to endure bad luck with RNG just to make an objective available for completion.

The Cash Grab. Black Lion weapon skins and miniature collections should not be a part of in-game achievements. Never should a in-game achievement push players into buying something that has been advertised in the gemstore. This is crossing a line for many people that believe achievements in the game itself should not be related to cosmetic and convenience items that are primarily introduced into the game market via the gemstore. It undermines the legitimacy of the achievement system and demotivates players with this opinion from continuing to participate. (The mini achievements to start off with already broke this rule, but now that you have to consume them for collections exacerbates the need to bring more into the market via the gemstore.)

And the mini achievements…. really? just a copy and paste of the old ones? You couldn’t be bothered to add a collection for them so we can have a list like all the other collections? If you are going to have those objectives in the game atleast put some effort into it if you want our money. It was bad enough you change up the collection rules on us and make people collect them again so we can consume them, but the way these collections were implemented just adds insult to injury.

I am just glad all my characters are a year old and were made before they started tampering with the leveling progression. They tried to make leveling feel rewarding because before you just did it naturally and didn’t noticed as you progressed through the game. This is how most people liked it. Now, instead of making it rewarding they took away utility and slowly spoon feed it back to make it seem like you are being rewarded instead of being less handicapped.

Good thing there are enough spoons to go around apparently….

Out of the 14 newcomers to the game I have recruited over the past two weeks. None of em liked the leveling system and wondered why Anet would handicap them mid way though their experience.

Should gemstore items give AP?

I think they should add mini-packs and black lion keys for laurels like they did dye if they are going to be related to AP.

Probably the easiest fix adding a obvious in-game currency avenue to accomplish these collections without highly impacting the incentive to buy these items from the gemstore.

From what I understand from what I watched and read is….

You still get a key at level 10 story. The kicker is that the story is not available anymore until level 10. So it will take a significant amount of time to get to level 10 then complete the larger chunk the story to get your key.

There are varying opinions that suggest this may or not be viable but its a general conscientious this will take significantly longer than it does now. No matter how you slice it. The primary means will be the gemstore, even with people PvPing it takes awhile to get 10 level tomes to consistently farm these keys.

As someone that’s motivation to play this game is collecting AP but cares nothing about leaderboard AP. This could kill one of my biggest motivators to continue playing.

snip.

There will likely be dozens if not hundreds of collections. Only a small percentage will be tied to the gem store. And in theory people do farm keys to get tickets anyway, and will still be able to do so (if not quite as efficiently). It’s another thing to do. Many people got their skins without buying keys.

Still though, to me if they are going to require every black lion weapon set since they made it still going to feel like a cash grab just because of the sheer volume of tickets you would need, the market price of them since they have been released, and RNG related to the gem shop involved in the achievement system now.

With the exception of miniatures that were very obtainable, the AP system has always been game based accomplishments. Now we are seeing a gem store creep into the achievement system which understandably some people have a problem with. I am one of these people.

I’m not actually disagreeing with you. I just don’t care personally. 5 achievement points here and there aren’t going to make any difference at all to the game for me. Not even a little.

I don’t watch where I am on the leaderboards. I’m not competing with anyone. From my point of view, I just want buy the stuff I don’t like. Just like I decided not to collect gem store minis.

I still enjoy the game.

It may be just a hand full of collections worth of gemstore creep into the system now 5 here and 5 there, but that adds up. If people that don’t approve don’t say something now it could turn into collection of outfits, toys, and gathering tools from the gemstore as well. It could be well on down the line where AP is strongly gemstore based depending on how they handle the AP in these collections and anything else they might add.

There are already very few ways to measure and track your player accomplishment progression in this game. This is not something I would like to see get even partially based in what is purchased in the gem store. If AP turns into something that can be reasonably progressed by sliding your credit card, it would lose meaning…. atleast to me.

But by all means, have the collections, have rewards for them. Just leave AP out of it when it comes to things related to the gemstore.

I hate to tell you but it already is that. You can buy legendaries. Spent money on minis, spend money on gems to convert to gold to get all your cultural armors done, buy all the stuff you need to get to max level crafting, you can even buy dungeon runs to get your dungeon master title.

If that’s your complaint, you’re about two years too late.

Theoretically yeah you could. But are any of these things advertised on the gemstore besides the minis? No they are not. That is what makes them different. Thats what makes them a purchase or a gamble instead of an accomplishment, because the primary means of acquisition is the real money shop.

I would argue against the minis too, but those have been there since day 1.

Sounds a bit like you’re splitting hairs. A lot of people bought precusors or even legendaries with at least some real money. People have been spending real money for ages to get what they want in this game.

You can say this is a change, but in reality, it’s a relatively minor one. Anyway I don’t see enough complaints going live to stop it, but by all means. I’ll complain about it if you do. lol

The change is that there are now achievement points locked behind a RNG mechanism that is almost entirely (we will find out tomorrow) locked behind a gemstone item.

That is going backwards from your stand point of people buying gems to achieve in in-game objective such as a legendary For the first time ever in this game the primary avenue for achieving a in-game objective is purchasing gems. Spending money has really has nothing to do with it. Its the fact that an in-game accomplishment pushes you into a gemstore purchase is whats wrong and backwards.

Except for people who farm keys you mean.

Well we will find out if this is still practical tomorrow wont we?

If it was heavily gated behind gem store items such as having to collect every black lion set would really kill my motivation to keep collecting. It would just scream cash grab achievement system, not completing objectives in the game system.

I always looked at AP as a measurement of how much of the game I have completed, these collections could change that as they have little to do with the game and more to do with the gemstore. Collections should be items that are made in game not gated behind gemstore based RNG ticket system.

The idea is very simple ACHIEVEMENT points should never have the player to purchase something advertised in the gemstore to obtain them.

At this point they stop being achievements and start being purchase points.

Yes this includes miniatures. Unless they start including mini-packs or black lion keys for laurels. This behavior needs to be corrected.

I like the idea of this collection AP. But one of my biggest worries is that they will include special event and gemstore items. This can be really good for the game but the collections and permanent AP goals should be items that are always acquirable in the game with the primary means being via game play not cash shop.

I just hope this isn’t a cash grab ploy “pay for AP” by anet. That would really degrade the game for me.
