Guild wars 2 IS alt friendly

Mireles Lore.5942

I find that GW2 is more alt friendly than GW1. In GW2 I didn’t have to grind out lightbringer and EOTN faction titles to become efficient in certain skill sets, areas, and hard mode.

Ascended armor is no where close to that level…

It is a +36 total stat difference and a 20-60 armor difference depending on the type. I have 3 other 80s, and in no way do I feel like I NEED ascended right away or feel incomplete from not having it, this is all in peoples heads as any other method other than the most fastest tedious grind becomes unacceptable, and is not a rational reason to change the game. Armor will come to my alts in its own time as long as I just continue to play like I have been, few hours a evening with friends doing group activities as I refuse to farm in this game.

Plus I have a hard time believe all these people that have 8-12 alts that had the time to get them all to level 80 and equip them, all of a sudden are too short on time to play those alts in various areas of the game to get them ascended armor.

After you get pass the 500 craft gate and the laurel gate, unless each toon requires unique stats, you can pretty much mass produce it at that point taking it day by day.

I do.

If you bought this thing knowing it was bugged, knowing what the description says, and still expected the bug to stay… thats just stupid, and no these people do not deserve their money back.

What do you want them to come out and say? There was a bug and now its fixed?

Ascended Armor Needs Laurels

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mireles Lore.5942

Mireles Lore.5942

You get 1 Laurel per daily completion. These don’t take long to do, so even Casuals can do it. And keep in mind that Ascended Armors are top of the line BiS gear. It’s not meant to be able to get easily or quickly. Even if you did 3 dailies a week, you should have roughly 150 Laurels saved up over the year. That’s more than enough to be alt friendly.

150 laurels is more than enough to be alt friendly? lol How many toons can you max out in ascended with that?

Don’t forget that you get 10 for the monthly and they pour out of every achievement chest. I have well over 150 laurels after spending 100s and laurels have not even been out for a year.

When you run into clone mesmers you gotta kite them or simply flee, killing their clones or letting them detonate on you does massive damage to you. It is a very common mesmer build as it is a “I win” build nothing much you can do other than the lure them away from clones and catch them off guard as most of the damage they do depends on your actions.

If this was a goal I could work towards by playing the aspects of this game I enjoy, then this would be a slight bother.

However, since this requires me to 1 ) join the champ trains for any decent gold earning and 2 ) craft, this is again something that pushes me away from the game and leaves me disinterested in contributing with gem purchases.

The #1 reason I left WoW was the gear grind and this is something that ANet has continually pushed on players here…

You are in no way required to champ farm, nor is it the only way to earn decent gold, nor do you have to purchase materials, you can obtain them yourself. And if crafting leaves u disinterested best not try any other MMO.

Excuses to exclude ascended armor all amount to “but i don’t wanna!”.

Plus it has been mentioned in a interview or preview that ascended armor will drop in fractals at some point.

Wait wait, gather all the mats? To get to 500? How ‘bout you try it out (I sure did, and I got to 425 before I realize how ineffective it is.) and see how long you think it’ll take you. I play the way I want to play (dungeons, dungeons and more dungeons!) and so far I haven’t been able to afford the goldsink to get to 500. Weapons drop in Fractals too y’know. I haven’t heard about anyone getting any of those recently though, so don’t expect armor to drop too easy.

You don’t have to gather all the mats, you can also purchase them with gold from whatever activity you like, and I have two crafting professions at 500, its not hard it just takes a little effort and a time period of saving. This isn’t mean’t to be a instant gratification goal that you can accomplish in under a week or even a month.

I’ve gotten a ascended weapon box in a low teens in fractals. They drop, you just have to actually play to win.

“I play dungeons and I only want to do dungeons” will get you there eventually, as you actively refuse to play anywhere else. But as I said before, “but I don’t wanna!” doesn’t make it a bad design, because your play style is still your choice. The system isn’t bad, its your play-style encompasses a really small area of the game and you actively refusing to try something new that is gating you.

Ascended armor was meant to be a goal to server as a median between exotic and legendary, I wouldn’t expect them to spoon feed you everything in a single area. But the option is still there, just because it does not meet your idea of a acceptable time table doesn’t mean it should be changed or removed.

Why do you play the class you play.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I always play Warrior, as I do in every MMO and RPG, no matter how bad they are as a class in any game, I like to make them work, especially with war hammer as a weapon.

I was never much into casters and magic in general, I always like the feeling of getting right up in the fight and beating on people.

Warriors are tough and rarely need to kite or flee vrs caster classes. Warriors are a class that they are likely to be the last man standing in a fight. I guess I like being the tough, “knight in shining armor”, leading the way type of player.

Ascended armor stress

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mireles Lore.5942

You can get ascended armor day one if you wanted to, the time gate materials are also trade-able on the TP. Cost way more money than necessary but this is how some of us roll. Personally saving money is just as if not more effective than producing money when you have amassed wealth, so I will be taking it one step at a time, only thing I might buy that I wouldn’t be required to is some cloth mats.

That being said, this is meant to be a long term goal that takes the average player multiple weeks to get. If you are stressed to the point you are actually losing sleep you may want to seek professional help.

In my guild its a requirement even for dungeons and fractals… It makes things so much easier, the team more responsive as a whole. It is the fastest and easiest way to communicate information PERIOD. I don’t care how fast you can type, voice is faster and it doesn’t diminish your ability to control and react on your character. It really shows in the terms of success your team has and how simple mistakes are avoided. If someone refuses to get it we just don’t take them, if you want to play team oriented content with us you got to be a team player.

You seem intelligent, so I’d like to suggest that you try to get out of that 1 dimension you’re stuck in and join us on our great migration to seek out and find new ascended options and possibilities.

Alright ill take a stab at it.

If you were going to make a system of acquisition not based on crafting, you would still need to do it in a way that encompasses the entire game to be on par with the crafting method. There would have to be 4 different components you throw into the forge for a final product (1 peice of armor or a single weapon).

Component 1

I would suggest we re-purpose the gifts from dungeons you need from legendary and re-purpose them for ascended items as well. From dungeons, the stats you want will deter-main what dungeon you must do. To make component 1 you must throw a gift, a corresponding exotic dungeon armor piece, X amount of ecto, and X amount of skill based consumables.

Component 2

Component 2 I would have a new gift you must acquire from just laurels. To make component 2 you must get the gift of laurels, the gift of battle, X obsidian shards, and X amount of Elonian wine.

Component 3

Here you will need amounts of all 4 trade-able ascended materials deld steel, spritwood, elonian leather, and whatever the cloth based one will be.

Component 4

Here is where all the account bound materials that you should be earning comes in, since you cant make bricks of these you should need a stack of each dust, ore, and shards along with a high amount of Thermocatalytic Reagent.

Quickly thought out idea, amounts would need to be balanced to be akin to the effort required by the people that are crafting, and of course may be some fairness concerns. But that is how I would approach another means, something that includes the whole game.

Oh and yes, I do play the game to get stuff. As is proper to get stuff. I play the aspects that I like. As is proper for a form of entertainment, for fun. I like dungeons, and a lot of my gear came from that. The gold and karma from dungeon runs i use to supplement it further for a few more items or gearing alts even (i dont farm CoF1 or such back then, we usually run random dungeons here and there).. World bosses are fine… i suppose…, but i dont enjoy joining the zergs to run after them one by one (ITS BORING, for me… really, i tried), and prior to ascended crafting this never made an issue as far as getting BiS item goes. Also, I levelled some crafting but after I realize there would be a lot of TEDIOUS material gatherings/or spend gold on the ever price hiking TP for the mats, i put that REALLY REALLY low on my list. What I dont get now is why I have to be forced to go all over to get the stuffs i need, because far from making me appreciate the game, i’m growing quite frustrated with it.

Then whats the problem?

Everything you just listed just described how one can get ascended armor. The only issue you have stated it that you don’t want to gather or spend money on materials… Which sorry to say is part of what makes this game an economy is having demand for things like materials for making armor, weapons, ect.

You can get all the materials and gold you need in the play-style u just described it just might take longer than a grind method or longer than you would like.

And “i am forced” just isn’t a valid argument you are not FORCED to play the game, nothing is roadblocked from not having this armor, and the stat increase is only +36 in more stats vrs exotic armor. You feeling forced is just that, your feelings, that is not the games fault and doesn’t make the idea bad.

With it arriving on the 10th, how many people are happy about this new (I am assuming) grind?

I don’t get why you call it a grind. We have known this was coming for months. Even if you just took 2 days a week to go get ori on all your characters, there wouldn’t be a grind. Sure, we all will have to get the new time gated stuff, but if you just do it as you play you won’t notice it at all.

It’s called grind, because it is a grind. The fact that we know it’s coming doesn’t suddenly change that fact. And good luck getting by with “only” two days per week farming for cloth and leather. Especially if you happen to not play 8 hours a day, every day (so, in case you are a normal player).

I think some people are totally missing the point of the type of goal ascended gear is supposed to provide.

I do not miss that point, i simply disagree with the mindset behind it.

It provides an LONG TERM end game goal related to character progression

It’s too long for the vast majority of the players. Yes, the top 1% can do it relatively easy, and few more percents can slowly grind through it. Everyone else however will still be gearing up when next wave of Vertical Progression will hit. Assuming they just don’t give up on this first.

infact is the only end game goal that offers a stat progression instead of aesthetics.

Yes, that is a problem in a game marketed as a place where no such thing were to exist.

The materials needed to get it encourages play throughout all areas of the game.

Enforce, not encourage. And that sends completely different message to players.

They would have a hard time adding armor acquisition methods outside of drops to other areas of the game because crafting acts as a time, effort, and money gate.

There should have to be no gate at all (or at least one very easily passed). But if they really needed to make those gates (in direct conflict with original vision of this game), then they should have went with alternate methods of acquisition, each put behind a separate gate. So, you could get ascended gear with a time sink, gold sink, with effort, or skill. It should not require all of it (well, most. Skill got completely ignored).

Bad design is bad design, no matter how much you want to defend it.

Why don’t we make everything obtainable in a matter of hours and hand max armor to new people that just start the game? Because you know there should be no gates at all and having to actually perform for stuff goes against the original idea of the game of not having gear progression. Gawd forbid you have to actually play the game to get stuff.

The 3 ascended materials for obsidian refinement you can earn doing world bosses, dungeons, fractals, world vrs world, and killing champs/opening chests any where in the open world.

Having max crafting, something that most of use used throughout our leveling process now offers a continuation for end game. They would have a hard time adding armor acquisition methods outside of drops to other areas of the game because crafting acts as a time, effort, and money gate.

Materials of all tiers that would have to be gathered in all areas of open world, in world vrs world, or via gold through your favorite income producing activities. Even salvaged from items.

It is a grind only if you make it a grind, if you must have it ASAP and the only means you find acceptable to obtain that is the fastest most tedious way possible, and that bothers you, that is not the game’s fault, that is your fault. You are in no way forced to grind out gold and materials in a champ farm or any of the popular farms, nor are you gated from any content from not having ascended weapons and armor.

I for one certainly don’t plan on focusing on obtaining my armor in the first week or even the first month, as I am a die hard anti-farm player. Having already done 3 weapons, I know ascended armor will eventually fall in my lap if I just participate in multiple areas of the game, save, and keep doing what I find fun with my guild.

Long term goal is well and good (but personally, I think ascended is too far up the scale on ‘long term’, it could definitely be easier to get and still be a long term goal) but why gate content behind this “long term goal”? If you’re running fractals, you’ll NEED this armor once the cap goes up.

My friends that barely play the game can’t do high level fractals with my group anymore because agony is such a killer now. Hell, I can’t even do 40 because I haven’t gotten around to grinding for ascended weapon crafting.

LOL you need this armor for fractals? I did not realize all those people that have already hit the level 50 fractals have ascended armor before its out! Its funny to watch people bend over backwards to try to make an argument make since.

You can get as much AR as you need from fractals with rings, accessories, and back peices, especially with the new AR infusions.

I think some people are totally missing the point of the type of goal ascended gear is supposed to provide.

I’m pretty sure gold sinks and increasing gem sales are a big part of the ascended equation as well.

They would have a hard time adding armor acquisition methods outside of drops to other areas of the game because crafting acts as a time, effort, and money gate.

naw, they could have used the laurel system (see ascended trinkets in pve and wvw) for acquiring ascended weapons and armor to start as well. would have been pretty easy for them to allow players to purchase X ascended piece for X laurels, X gold, X crafting mat or X badges to accomplish the same goals.

don’t make excuses for a poor implementation decision that only provides 1 reliable method to obtain ascended gear and alienates players who don’t like to craft in the process.

Yeah they could have it use laurels, but without a time gate, having it bought with laurels will make the crafting method effectively useless which is why you will never see another direct method happen. Laurels are a currency which exists that is not end game and is not suitable for ascended armor as an end game goal.

Laurel system has no time gate for players like me that have been playing regularly since the start are sitting on almost if not more than 200 laurels and loads of t7 mats, we would most likely have the armor the first day. And instantly be bored again.

Laurel system, will make the current reward system to obtain ascended effectively mute, as people no longer need to earn materials to craft, as it would defeat the purpose to have a laurel vendor require all the mats without the crafting. It doesn’t encourage people to venture outside their comfort zone into other areas of the game.

Just because you don’t like the way something or the way it was implemented doesn’t mean its poor, in my opinion it was a genius way to get players out in all areas of the game working toward a new goal. And it also put some value into having a crafting profession. Don’t like to craft? Don’t do it, they made the increase negligible for a reason.

Plus it has been mentioned in a interview or preview that ascended armor will drop in fractals at some point.

Champ farming is required for the dragonite and even if it wasn’t, it’s still the fastest way to earn the gold. The time it would take to obtain all these materials without buying any is a terrible idea when you consider the cost/benefit aspect.

In other MMOs, you can often ignore crafting if you want…not sure what your point is there.

And if that’s the only excuse you can pull from these threads, I think you’re too biased to your own opinion to really look at what people are saying.

I don’t like Ascended gear because:
– The gear serves as an unnecessary roadblock to experiencing the content I bought the game for.
– The gear adds nothing to the play experience aside from being able to outperform people who have less time to invest in the game.
– The gear is a lame distraction from adding new and interesting content.
– The gear sets a precedent for a gear treadmill and I bought GW2 specifically to escape the gear treadmill in other MMOs.
– The other reasons mentioned before regarding what they are requiring to attain the gear.

I have made 3 ascended weapons and still have t7 mats coming out of my ears from just playing the game as I normally do. I have never touched that champ farming train. You are totally exaggerating on how hard and exclusive these materials as you can get them doing almost anything.

Stopped reading here since you seem to think that everyone has as much free time as you do or enjoys grinding as much as you do.

If grinding = going out and doing a variety of different activities with my guild, saving, and progressing one day at a time… yeah I enjoy that, don’t see anything wrong with it. You can eventually get there just by playing the game and doing a variety of activities, just because you cant complete something in a few hours or are to stubborn to venture out into different areas of the game for variety doesn’t make it a grind.

So because you don’t feel like you have the “time” to actually play the game, this “grind” shouldn’t exist?

Sounds like you want the game tailored for you and only you, by taking away other people’s goals and enjoyment so you don’t have to feel compelled to achieve the goal, extremely selfish. This armor does nothing to change the content that exists or your ability to play it with exotic armor.

And yes you would stop reading there since your reasons for excluding this armor are not valid ones and leave you unable to logically counter my points.

  • - The gear serves as an unnecessary roadblock to experiencing the content I bought the game for.*

Lol what, how does not having ascended armor roadblock you from anything?

  • The gear adds nothing to the play experience aside from being able to outperform people who have less time to invest in the game.*

Best remove all armor crafting from the game because you know it doesn’t add to the play experience at all, economy and trade, whats that?

Lets also hand everyone max gear that way nobody has to invest time in anything.

  • - The gear is a lame distraction from adding new and interesting content.*

Like i said before it isnt required and it stat increase isnt overbearing to where you must get it right away!

  • - The gear sets a precedent for a gear treadmill and I bought GW2 specifically to escape the gear treadmill in other MMOs.*

Having any type of tiered gear does, should we also shave exotics at the top as not to be to stressful to newer players?

  • The other reasons mentioned before regarding what they are requiring to attain the gear.*

Those reasons are not valid you can do many activities to obtain the gear, dungeons, fractals, world events, farming, world vrs world. You might as well say that you dont like having to play the game to get this armor. All areas reward something towards ascended items. People can’t have long term goals in this game to strive for because you dont want to put in the effort for them yourself? please.

With it arriving on the 10th, how many people are happy about this new (I am assuming) grind?

Yes, crafting was lacking in purpose out side of leveling up until it produced superior armor and weapons that you can’t buy off the trade post like exotics.

Will it be something you work towards? Is it a step in the wrong direction in terms of time investment/enjoyment, or welcomed?

Yes, It is never a bad thing to have more goals, the stat increase is small enough not to be game breaking but big enough to make a different in situations of close matches especially as the negligible increase on each ascended piece accumulate into a noticeable one. No only that it is welcomed market stimulation.

Will you work towards the armor due to aesthetics? Does the design encompass what you would expect of the “high-end” gear treadmill?

No, just mostly for the stats, design seems right, as you advance through higher tiers they should have diminishing returns.

What is your estimation on the overall % for the power creep that will be introduced with this new tier of gear?

No idea, but if you want people pulling numbers out of not so nice places… id say in the single digit percentage points.

Do you believe this will be the final tier of gear that will be introduced? Or is there speculation that a tier for Legendary, and perhaps even a seperate new tier will be introduced later on in the game’s life?

It would not surprise me if they added legendary armor, but I can understand why they wouldn’t. As far as a tier above ascended stats… I doubt it.

Guild Wars needs to expand the world more.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Mireles Lore.5942

Mireles Lore.5942

Hello,

I have been a enthusiastic Guild Wars fan for nearly a decade now, and after playing this game since release there has been alot of good but change and content in this game but is severely lacking in terms of change you would expect from a dynamic world. I would like to make a suggestion to a problem I see that tends to lose regular players and discourages returning players to stay.

Problem:

Some players don’t feel like the dynamic of the “living world” idea is not being met. The living story, while good, is not immersive enough to maintain interest in the game, while it offers playable content it offers nothing in concrete progression or change. Such as anything new in terms of places to explore, personal character/story development, or world progression that is permanent.

From the viewpoint of people returning after an extended break of being bored or burned out, the game is exactly the same it was as a year ago with some novelty features that don’t directly contribute to interest in content. Those people ask “whats new?” and all that is really there for them is the current living story. The world itself is the same, most of the dungeons have not changed much, most of the zones are the same, and the same and huge areas of the map are still inaccessible. There is nothing to note worthy to draw in returning players to come stay awhile and play new content, explore, and have new experiences. The living story does nothing for these players as this content comes and and then it goes.

Too much resources and focus seem to be going into the living story leaving all other areas of the game neglected. Living story it seems is a very important part of the game to like, too important in fact, if a player doesn’t like living story it really effects their will to play, as it is the only part of the content that gets regular or even semi-regular attention. I feel like Anet has backed itself into a corner by promising temp content every two weeks and leaving everything else neglected. I don’t think many players would mind if you took a week or two more with living story and used some of those teams on other areas of the game.

While there are many different areas of the game to improve, my suggestion is mainly for PvE.

Suggested Solution:

Now while many are screaming for something like a box expansion, I feel that this is the old way of doing things and is not suitable for the model of this game. But, Anet does need to find a way to introduce new permanent content that offers new places to explore.

I suggest that Anet find the means to make continuations of the personal story that journey into entire zones every 6 months to 12 months. These updates should include new personal story quests, 4 – 6 new explore-able areas, 1 new dungeon complete with 1 story path and 3 explore-able, a new world boss, new baddies, and achievements related to content.

This would give the game more of a sense of a changing and evolving world that it lacks into its 2nd year. It gives a returning player that has just logged on after months something totally new to explore to make them stay in the game, maybe reconnect with old friends and guildies giving them more incentive to stay, and maybe buy some cash shop goodies. And for the players that plays regularly, it really gives them something to become immersed in that is not time gated or fragmented over two week periods that they can complete on their own time table.

For Example, personally, I would like to see the Crystal Desert. You could have the Pact journey into the crystal desert seeking the ascension trials to beat some threat (a dragon maybe?). Have players visit the different trials of ascension as parts of their story, even maybe fight their doppelganger like in Guild Wars 1. The dungeon and end story could be placed where Glint’s Dragon Lair was. The world boss could be something out of the corrupted Tombs of Primeval Kings. There is so much background lore to build off of in these areas its a shame that they sit there with unused potential.

I am sure it would do alot of good for new, returning, and die hard players to see the game expand. Comments and criticisms are welcome.

Daily meta, for AP hunters sanity!

in Suggestions

Posted by: Mireles Lore.5942

Mireles Lore.5942

Nobody has ever suggested that you will be able to achieve everything in a reasonable amount of time. I used to be like you, with the mentality that if i dont obtain everything I’m missing something. This is just not a completion-ist game like games of previous generations. Rewards will only continue to expand and you will spend more time doing things you rather not be doing.

There is already a meta its called the daily chest. And like every other meta in the game you can earn AP beyond what is required of it. Making daily AP a flat rate only serves to lower AP hunters competitive edge and give newcomers less means to pass people up that don’t farm all the dailies after the chest.

Sorry, but you not wanting to have to grind out dailies is not reason to take away incentive and reward for the people that do so you don’t feel compelled to do them. You are just going to have to get over missing a few points and maybe falling behind.

I am not high on the leaderboard but I would like to be able to grind out a few extra points a day to unlock chests since I can not be there everyday to complete the daily. People feeling like they don’t want to be compelled to get those extra points is not a good enough reason to take them away from players like me.

You being burned out on getting them is you playing how you want to, nothing FORCES you to get every AP point. Thats you “playing how you want” to be high on the leaderboards and putting in the effort for it. If you are burned out to the point you don’t want to do that anymore you should stop and do things you enjoy. That is what playing how you want to play means, it does not involve changing the game to make it easier on your completion-ist style. You can’t have your cake and eat it to… that is what people asking for caps expect.

Daily AP Cap

in Suggestions

Posted by: Mireles Lore.5942

Mireles Lore.5942

I am just going to assume the reason for this cap is to limit how much the hardcore AP grinders have to do to keep pace with everyone. This does nothing to improve the quality of the game.

There should not be an easy cap or ceiling because of three reasons.

1.) Newcomers that want to catch up will have less room to do so since everyone receives a flat rate for daily chest and nothing beyond that.

2.) People that are at the top that play in a “Hardcore” nature will have their competitive edge reduced.

3.) It would slow people down on their means to obtain AP chests.

I do not find people feeling like doing every daily possible is a grind is a rational reason to necessitate a cap on what you can get so they don’t feel compelled to do it. It only servers to slow people that actually want to compete on the basis of AP down and nothing else.

AP leader-boards are a measure of time and dedication to the game. The idea of a cap or flat rate daily offers nothing in the term of balance and fairness to players wishing to compete on this basis and earn chests. Sorry people that agree with the idea of a cap will just have to get over missing a few points or continue doing them.

Was also going to come here to suggest this a third time and ask…..

When are devs going to have the “resources” make guild management a “priority” in a game called guild wars?

Just a simple “Last Online”, and “Last Represented” would go really far in terms of the ease of maintaining our rosters. Leaders shouldn’t have to use the AP leader boards and have a Inactive check rank just to make sure their rosters are not filled with people that don’t play or rep.

More daily - are you kidding me ?

Mireles Lore.5942

We are not talking about people getting bored. We are talking about the daily time required if someone is to go for all achievement points. This has been increasing over time and some people would like this to stop.

But you CAN stop. Just do not do them.

and I will stop when it gets to the point I lose interest. I would much rather state my opinion now in hopes that things can change. Don’t just give up right away. Things can change, state your opinion.

While I am not a hard core AP hunter I disagree with the sentiment of not adding dailies for PvP and adding cap limits to everyone because a group of people feel something has become to tedious and unfun. Some people might actually want to hunt all the points available in any given day because they find it enjoyable or don’t get to play every day.

You feeling like its unfun does not mean it should be limited so you don’t feel like you HAVE to do it when others might want to. Because the reality is, it isnt required of you in any way, it is something you have imposed on yourself and want to limit the experience of others to keep that obligation to yourself easier to maintain.

If limiting what other people can accomplish in any given day is required for you to be satisfied with the game and what you accomplish, you are a selfish player.

If I were to suggest the daily AP be added to the daily chest rather than for each daily, this is not limiting anyone. This would still allow options for every player, and would make it less of a drain on the AP hunters.

Like I said before, I don’t feel like a group wanting to “making it easier” on themselves is reason enough to change the system.

While you might want this… The hard core APs that might actually enjoy the competitiveness of the leaderboards has just had his competitive edge reduced because people that share your opinion didn’t want to actually do the dailies they feel are to tedious and now anyone that completes the daily chest is just as competitive as he was. Not only that, but on the flip side, anyone that started later now has less room to catch up as everyone gets a flat rate AP for the daily.

The only rational conclusion to let everyone play the way they want is to let those people play like they want and let you play how you want even if that means you missing some points.

Your suggestion is different but your reason for changing the game is still because you don’t feel like doing a certain activity is fun… that is not reason to take away other people’s motivation and reward for doing that activity.

Take it from an ex-achievement pointholic. You are better off letting go.

Whether they add more or less daily ap is irrelevant. The LS AP, also irrelevant. If you are not enjoying the game and what it has become for you, is time to move on. You are exactly where I was 3 months ago. I suggest you take a break from the game.

I did that not long ago and left the game for 3+ months after constantly hunting down achievements became an overbearing burden. I felt the need to do my dailies, in their entirety every single day. The outcome of that is that I no longer play the game. I played the achievement point learderboard, and I will tell you, that is one boring game.

I’m going to disagree. If you enjoy a game, but there are changes or aspects of it you are not liking, voice your opinion. We are not talking about people getting bored. We are talking about the daily time required if someone is to go for all achievement points. This has been increasing over time and some people would like this to stop. There are many ways this could be solved, and limiting players not what we are requesting.

I find it odd that there are people who love to be negative to AP hunters, yet they post on threads that will in NO way affect how THEY are playing the game.

Voice your opinion of the things that affect you, and respect how others play the game.

I wouldn’t worry so much about leaderboards… If you are someone that has any a job, schooling, spouse, kids, or takes any kind of extended break from the game, give those up or you already lost as far as those are concerned.

That being said, just because people can and do play all day every day, doesn’t mean they should be gated because alot of us can’t. People that are ahead obviously enjoy giving more time than we can, and being “hardcore” about them points. Why shouldn’t areas of the game be made rewarding? Why should these people be held back? so you can feel like what exactly? ahead? better?

I used to have that “all or nothing” mentality, and it really stressed me out when real life circumstances came about that made me miss an accomplishment of living story. It wasn’t even something I liked, but it depressed me and made me want to quit for awhile. But…

This made me realize that if I continued this mentality, the game would become more and more of a chore and not fun I wanted to be having. Many achievements are a grind and more content will be added to the point where I will not have time for everything. I knew if I wanted to have real fun in this game I was going to have to let go of the “completion-ist” play style.

This helps immensely, I don’t start my day grinding out the daily tasks anymore. I just hop into whatever my friends and guild mates are doing and they complete naturally. I don’t rush to do all the living story and feel like I must do it as quickly as possible because waiting to do it with your friends offers a more enjoyable experience. I don’t feel bad when there is a grind achievement that would take hours to do when I could be off doing something I enjoy instead, because really, there will be other achievement points to earn.

So in short, my fellow completion-ists. This game is not the game of previous generations where you have a list of fixed goals to complete with unlimited to complete them and you “beat” the game. This game is very much dynamic and “living” rewards will constantly expand and the time scope required to complete everything will only grow larger to the point where it will make the game into a chore. That feeling is on you, not Anet for trying to make this game rewarding for everyones play preferences and style.

I try to think of AP points as a marathon not a race. If you are one of those people that sticks to one MMO, you don’t want to be burned out, people will drop off over the years as you are still accumulating points for all your time and there will be less people ahead of you as the AP points you have are not available to people that started playing after you.

Mireles Lore.5942

Yes there is a method using this: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Transmutation_Splitter

If i remember correctly these are the steps (i did for my dawn):
1. Get on the character that has the legendary
2. Buy a white lvl 80 weapon of the same type (for ex for dawn u buy a white greatsword from the vendor)
3. Combine them using fine transmutation stone. Select the looks from the white item and the rest of the stats from the legendary. Now your item will be account bound instead of soulbound
4. Move it into the bank and change your toon to the character u want to transfer it
5. Use the item i linked above and u should be able to split it into the legendary item u already had + a white item u bought. After this u can re-soulbound it on your new character by equiping it.

I am sure there are some youtube videos on it also. Check them out to be sure. For me it worked and moved it from war to guard

Word of caution: I did this in the very first day that new item i linked was released. I do not know if it was changed after that.

Thank you sir, Does this un-soulbind it all together or make it account bound?

And has anyone done this recently?

Just want to be sure I am not going to end up destroying a legendary trying this.

Probably wont try it until the nurf actually happens in hopes that they will dial back that 30-35% dmg reduction on CC skills.

Is there a way I can transfer my Juggernaut legendary off my Warrior and onto my Guardian?

For those interested in some background.

I have enjoyed playing hammer builds the entire first year of guild wars and looking great while doing it. But, with the upcoming hammer nurf to Warriors hammer will be totally useless in high end PvE content, Roaming in WvW, and generally any activity outside a of zerg setting. What is the use of having CC if you can’t efficiently do damage? Especially against bosses with defiant and that can’t be CC effectively. It is a shame that so much work and effort will become effectively useless with a flick of the Anet nurf bat, and I have no other alternative for this weapon.

If there isn’t already a way there should be. To put so much effort into something expecting it to be a certain way, then having it made useless after the fact is very disheartening.

I don’t know what all this talk about populations is about, there is no NA server that does not have the population to fill WvW queues, people in those select servers simply don’t play. Anet can’t FORCE those communities to like and play WvW. If WvW is important to you and not your server. You are in the wrong server. Transfer to one that better meets your interests.

I mean really what do you expect Anet to do? Even if you move people into servers to the point that all are “Very High” you can’t make them play WvW.

Population Problem [Solution]

in WvW

Posted by: Mireles Lore.5942

Mireles Lore.5942

Horrible idea, it does not even account for a 3 team system.

Lets entertain this idea like server population is WvW population, because there are very few servers that would not be able to fill WvW queues if they all participated at any given time.

So what happens when server 1 has 1000 players, server 2 has 500, and server 3, has 250?

They tick at 1x, 2x, and 4x? Do you not realize server 1 would have to own nearly all the map to keep even with server 3, not even accounting for server 2 being there as well? It just doesn’t work mathematically and is not in the interest of fairness when one team scores count more than the others. It pretty much requires big servers to control much much much more of the map than normal.

Putting servers that have guilds and leaders that put in the effort to make their server competitive to attract more people at a severe disadvantage is not “balancing” or “fixing”.

You are pretty much asking Anet to nanny small, low participation servers into competitiveness. Who is going to want to play in a highly fixed game where you are punished for the success of attracting people to your server?

If WvW is important to you, you need to move to a server where it is viewed as important. Not every server will be WvW competitive, its not realistic as not everyone participates and it is one area in a very big game.

The game rules need to stay the same for everyone, and need not to nanny servers that don’t participate. You have to play to win, if your server is not playing you wont win…. simple concept.

Why shouldn’t it work for a 3 team system? You just gave a good example of how it would work with 3 teams.

If 1 server has more players than the other 2 combined you probably already control the majority of the map. And this is where the system would help. Instead of punishing small servers (because they have less WvW players) it would help them to stay on a competitive level instead of both servers being completely stomped. Big servers would need to cap and defend more to stay ahead instead of steamrolling camps over and over again. The match would be more interesting and not one-sided anymore.

You call it unfair for big servers, I call it fair for both small and big. The rules would be the same for everyone. Currently there is only an advantage for the big servers which isn’t fair.

Btw I’m playing on a high participation server as well (Gold league EU) but even there it’s not balanced at all.

It isnt fair, because one server puts in more effort for a win than smaller servers…. IE if server 3 has 1/5th of the map server 1 must hold 4/5th while competently snubbing out two opponents JUST TO STAY TIED. That isnt balanced thats rigged.

Applying this system means that server 1 will have to maintain a minimum 5/8ths of the map at any given time to keep up. Not only do the other servers gain more, they gain at a fast rate. So best not lose any positions for very long. Lets say server 3 only gets 1/8th of the map… that means server one only need 4/8th or one half… but wait if Server two controls only 3/8ths of the rest of the map, its pulling ahead of the other two servers! So server 1 needs to maintain 5/8th ownership to stay slightly ahead or even with the other servers…. This makes zero logical since and only serves to nanny some servers into a victory while they are still getting stomped on the field.

To fit your definition of fairness lets just reward all servers with 1st place trophies and only make objectives able to be captured when its the servers turn to have them…. you know for fairness. Gawd forbid any server have any self created competitive edge over other servers, because you know, thats not fair.

Lets do the same thing to football… if one team is 0-5 and the other team is 5-0… the 0-5 teams touch downs should count for double… because you know to make it fair because the other team is obviously to good to be allowed to compete un-hindered.

Winning should be for the servers that participate and put the most effort into building and coordinating their WvW community… not being nanny-ed by slanted rules into a victory.

Not everyone can or should be a winner, and the rules shouldn’t be slanted to support such an idea… It is a game I would not be willing to play because my side is being handicapped for being more effective. Why even try to make ur server better and more populated if the rules will just win for you?

WvW can't be taken seriously for 1 reason.

in WvW

Mireles Lore.5942

Who said it was supposed to be taken seriously like a sport?

WvW is meant to be like a war, that means all is fair. We don’t need to turn it into some nanny game where servers that don’t have leadership to bring numbers and coordination up need to be propped up to be competitive. Plus, they don’t give low ranked sport teams a handicap or money against the high ranked ones when some teams clearly have better players and more money to pay them with, why do you expect it here?

Everyone is talking about “fair” and never consider how much foot work guilds and leaders put in to make a server good and covered, and people just want to “balance” all that benefit so they can be competitive without any of the footwork and leadership.

Sorry not going to happen, if that makes you want to uninstall the game maybe you should consider switching to a server that better suits your needs, because all servers will never be equal that is just not realistic. Especially when you can have populations that don’t even participate in WvW in a server.

Party Kicked as Leader Off9/DC/Quit/Leave

in Fractured

If the leader DC’s or go’s offline he no longer is party leader and it does not effect the remaining members of the group. The person who opens fractals can even leave the instance to repair now as long as they don’t change the character they are using. Are you sure your not being kicked?

If a party leader leaves the party, or is offline for more than 15 minutes the party is left for them automatically. At this point everyone gets kicked from the instance. Its a pesky problem, why me as a GL always makes sure that I enter the instance, because I know I wont quit or have to leave before the run is done.

Poll: Is Season 1 a disappointment?

in WvW

Posted by: Mireles Lore.5942

Mireles Lore.5942

This poll shows the authors bias with a loaded question and title that would deter people who would disagree from speaking and don’t feel like its representative to the game population as a whole that don’t even come to the forums, especially when you have a “neutral” count for people that found some fault, but did not voice agreement that season 1 was as a failure. Its either they said it was a failure or they didn’t, how they evaluated and expressed their thoughts on improvement is irrelevant. Despite the clear bias of the poll, I will answer anyway.

First I will define what is my definition of failure in reference to "“The Season 1 is a failure overall”. Do you agree? ". To me failure means it did not meet its intended objective and it is my belief that seasons were created for three reasons, to increase competitive spirit and to draw more people into WvW, and to provide better matches.

“The Season 1 is a failure overall”. Do you agree? " I Absolutely Disagree.

Seasons accomplished all these things.

On my server (Yaks Bend) and in my guild [XHSA] season 1 has sparked massive interest in players that would not or have not considered WvW before. It really showed on our server, we had increased coverage, more participation, and generally more of a will to win it for our server.

Seasons have added a whole new level of kind of a competitiveness spirit. More people are yelling “harray for our side” and are motivated to fight to win either it be for rewards or spirit. It has also added a level of strategy that focuses outside the present week there alliances can be brokered to the mutual benefit of both parties. It usually nothing personal, its just good business and their will be servers that will have the odds pitted against them to fight or become victims of circumstance.

The match-ups can be a little imperfect, they will always be, but as a yaks bender I felt like we had more closer match ups than what we had most of the last year. We had less “its over by the Saturday night” blow outs. Now while I feel that my view is limited to my server, it defiantly helped Yaks Bend find better matches as we did not go out of our way to manipulate ourselves into another league.

Most of the things being pointed out are problems with the nature of WvW before seasons, but seasons themselves can use some polish.

WvW is unbalanced, servers have uneven population, skill levels, and coverage times. This will always be the case as servers are like a business and people will flock to the servers that serve their interests best. Crutches that players have asked for such as “night guard” or buffing the stats of out numbered servers isn’t what I would call “balance”. WvW is meant to be more like a war not a sport, and all is fair in love and war. Numbers are most important, and strategy is also key. If your server does not have these things you deserve to fail, not be propped up by the game so you can compete against servers that actually work to accomplish these things without having to do any of the work yourself.

That being said the way accomplishments are structured could use some work. Never should using supply be part of achievement, this encourages wastefulness. Also some of the capturing sentries, killing dolyaks, farming ruins, and merc camps I feel need to be reduced, and more focus on defending towers, keeps, and camps for accomplishments. Accomplishments should be focused on the main activities a server should be coordinating to do to win, not some pve style “lets grind out 50 ruins by running laps” kinds of tasks.

How rewards and server transfers should be handled and are working fine. Most people don’t realize when a season starts you are locked into the rewards for server you were on when the season started. If you transfer mid-season, you will be allowed to play WvW in that server but you will get your old servers rewards. This is how it should be. I am also under the impression all servers get a meta chest. The rewards are based on placing with 1-3 getting unique rewards. It needs to stay like this, but I would also go as far as to increase the rewards based on how many consecutive seasons you spent in the same server. This would cut down on band wagons and encourage people to stay in the server they are in. As for population, I would give free transfer to people on low population servers so people can move to a more competitive server. Or you should start linking servers WvW worlds together that servers that don’t have the population to compete have more numbers.

In short, I think season 1 set out what it needed to do, pull more players into WvW and add a competitive spirit. It could defiantly be improved. It shouldn’t be ended just because people don’t think it perfect, because it will never be perfect. It is truly better than what we had.

Anyone not tired with the story?

I like Scarlet, and I don’t feel like I need to go on a big huge rant to convince others that they should share my opinion. The fact that she is the most talked about villain in Guild Wars 2 yet means improvement for the writers. The reason why you don’t see “I like scarlet” posts is because these people are off enjoying the game or really don’t have an opinion either way.

Most of the Scarlet hate posts here are perpetrated by maybe a few hundred players out of many thousands that want to impose their opinion on other players and convince Anet…. to do what exactly? Just up and remove her from lore?

I don’t suspect everyone is going to enjoy every one of their ideas. If you really don’t like it to the point it makes you rage, I would suggest a break until it changes. The actual game content is still plenty enjoyable for me and my guild of different opinions.
