Holy Trinity Is Called "Holy" For A Reason

I don’t understand the mentality of people wanting to turn this game into another WoW clone.

If GW2 is “so bad” and “WoW’s endgame is very much so superior to GW2’s”, what are you even doing here? Play WoW or the numerous WoW clones. Its like not liking a orange for not being more like apple… If you want an apple, dont eat an orange.

This game was specifically advertised to deliver something other than the WoW clone box “have nothing new for months and years on end” expansions. Believe it or not there are a majority of players that do not come to these forums that may enjoy GW2 for it has promised to deliver, something different then the close minded reskined holy trinity.

There are plenty of holy trinity games out there for you. Not so many games that can offer the experience GW2 offers for many players. Say no to WoW cloning.

It would be great to have some kind of in-game feature to allow guilds to organize this in-game.
You know, something like a guild mission you can announce in the LFG tool or something like that (since many players don’t read the forum).
Anyhow, nice move and you should try to send people to different server to advertise this (or ask people from different servers to do it) since there is a lot of people stuck with this achievement.

Did reddit and here, we already have more people than we can handle, we have been hard capped every attempt, if you haven’t got in now its to late. Thank you for everyone that came and participated.

My guild and I will be hosting knightfall achievement attempts for a few hours tonight after our guild missions either in Yak’s Bend or a Overflow depending how many people show up. It would be wise to check if you have a guest invite left. Our first attempt will be at 8pm March 15th Server Time (PDT) and continue until the crowd dies out or I pass out on my keyboard. Win or lose we will be continuing with the hologram fight for people still needing that was well

There seems to be an issue getting this achievement for many people that do not have it, mostly the reason is that it most people have it already and have stopped making attempts and the probability of getting the numbers you need in any given server are lower than they were when they fixed the achievement.

We want to get around this issue by giving people with the same goal a means to communicate with each-other and fill a server for us. We welcome anyone who wishes to join us tonight.

To join, please mail me in-game on Mireles Lore.5942 requesting a guest invite.

To ensure success, please bring the following:

[Fire Elemental Powder] – These will be used during the burn phase of the watch night please wait for the signal for your the color of the watch knight you are fighting. Information on where to get these can be found below.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fire_Elemental_Powder

[Ogre Pet Whistle] – These will also be used during the burn phase of the watch night proceeding the one you used the powder on. Once again please wait for the signal. Information on where to get these can be found below.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ogre_pet_whistle

[Powerful Potion of Slaying Scarlet’s Armies] – These potions contribute to DPS. Available for the low low price of 6c on the trade post.

[Vigil Valiance] – This can be found at the [Mystic Plaza] at the Vigil Tactician [Merchant] npc. This is a direct buff and lasts 3 minutes after you pay the 5s. This provides a substantial DPS buff nearly every 15 seconds.

[Nourishment] – This will be provided by the guild in the form of a [Feast of Truffle Steak] tray placed near the Vigil Tactician [Merchant] npc every X:45, 15 minutes before the attempt begins.

Together we can succeed, specific tactics and dividing between colors will occur in guild chat. I hope to see you all soon.

This is one of those achievements by design grief you for not being here the first 3 days when everyone wanted to do it… You best chance is to spend hours camping a popular server like blackgate or jade quarry for server reset (prime time) to roll around. Thats how I had to do it. Best start now, reset is in about 6 hours.

Some wonder why others have such a distaste for temp content… This is one of those reasons… Some of us just can’t be here for every release date and the longer you are not here the harder it is made for you to get these kind of achievements.

The broken queue system for guests doesn’t help anything either.

Sprocket Tool: A proposed compromise.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mireles Lore.5942

This new product Anet has released has certainly caused debate in both on the forums and more personally my guild. An idea arouse from a discussion with some of my guild mates that would both lower the backlash over this new product and allow anet to make sales off this new idea that they have had that provides an item bonus to gathering activities.

There is really no reason for a digital product to be viewed as obsolete because of the release of another new product. It is upsetting to some players that this product is perceived to make previous products obsolete. While there is nothing wrong with introducing new products, there is no reason for a digital item to make previous items obsolete by releasing one that performs the same function as the previous with a additional bonus costing the same amount of gems. This causes buyers remorse no matter if that remorse is justified or not.

To be blunt, the backlash and the call for removal of this bonus is in part because many have spend an equivalent amount of gems (gold or cash sourced) on a product that did not have this inherit bonus, and have no means to obtain this bonus independently except buying arguably the same product again. This is poor marketing in my opinion, and my solution would be inclusive to people that have already purchased gathering products.

I think a better approach to market this new idea would be to update all previous unlimited gathering tools to have a empty upgrade slot, and sell the bonus as a separate product. Then you can sell themed permanent gathering tools while making the item bonus a separate product all together for players to customize their gathering tools with various bonuses. I believe this will give more confidence in the player-base as a “fair” product as it does not make their previous gathering tools obsolete. Players would feel comfortable with purchasing the bonus knowing that they have the option to change their upgrade or buy another empty slot permanent gathering tool entirely to have access to multiple bonuses.

I think this new product is a great idea in the terms of production of supply and price control on a time sensitive resource but was implemented very poorly. I hope this suggestion is taken to heart, as I would like to see products described above.

It’s happening, it has happened. The item, with a distinct bonus, is right in front of you, and yet this isn’t them showing plans or intents?

…Really? I’m sorry, but really?

The precedent is right here, right now. The precedent is being set. It only takes it happening once for it to continue in the future.

The time is Neigh, The End is NEAR!

Please just because they come out with this one item doesn’t mean there going to start making it attached to economic cornerstones and high value items. But, if saying it over and over is enough for you to accept it as fact, please proceed.

I find some of the ideas and arguments on these threads kind of silly.

The idea that anet should refund/upgrade tools or some how trolled molten alliance picks is just plain silly… It would be like being upset at Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft for making a next generation console and demanding a refund or a upgrade and calling them trolls for releasing it. Any rational person is just going to throw their head back and laugh at you.

The conjecture and speculation that they may set us on a path where tools will include other more higher valued items is just that, speculation and conjecture to exaggerate a weak pay to win argument. If they had plans or showed intent to do this to high value items, then you might have a point but we know nothing in terms what might come out.

This is pay to win? what are you winning exactly? The future chance at some items? Sorry we are entirely passed this point of cash shop items much less gems providing economic benefit. To call this pay to win and none of the other infinite gathering tools, salvage items, cash to gold conversions, and convince items is hypocritical.

Most people don’t realize the effect it will have on whatever item they choose to stick on these tools. If they had not dropped the price floor (merchant value) off the any of the items in question then I would be worried. Whatever item they stick on these tools is going to be produced (farmed) into worthlessness. So in reality the tool is really a economic loser over a reasonable period of cost recovery because it floods the market with supply faster than any other individual item type being farmed with it.

I like this new tool because ideally people are throwing away gold and cash to make whatever tool item dirt cheap for the rest of us that are unwilling to pay for it.

People are just suffering from buyers remorse big time.

Just because you don’t find the number of people it will effect significant doesn’t make it a good idea in the interest of improving the game for everyone. You are still holding one group of players with more importance than the other and I don’t feel that is what this game is about.

If it even takes away from a single person just so completionist don’t have to feel compelled to continue doing things, I find it a bad idea. You are basically telling that player, “hey since this group of people didn’t want other people to be able to earn rewards indefinitely, you stop here, you can no longer earn rewards on a daily basis.” Its that, what makes a hard cap for the sake of completionists a totally selfish idea.

Your goal for this cap is to limit rewards and goals strictly to satisfy one player types mentality, and that is never okay no matter how obscure the limit is because someone will reach it. This does nothing to improve the game for anyone as you could have the same experience without a cap if not its the players mentality that prevents them from doing so not the game.

What I find very disturbing in your posts is that you associate your own point of view with the “everyone else” group. In other words, “I dont not agree with you and so does everyone else”. Where I, for a change, already stated in my very first post to which I assume you replied, that I recognize that I represent a certain group of players and if the needs of this group collide with the majority, I can openly give up my rights to enjoy the game. Now you come in, setup a position of someone who would be concerned about the possible situation where one would stop getting daily AP after reaching a certain very high cap and then proceed to falsely claim that “everyone else” are on the same boat as you (and tbh I think that the majority of people dont even care about AP that much so they are neither in your group or mine). Just becouse a proposed change wants to disturb the specific status quo, does not mean that “everyone else” agree with that status quo (or more importantly, even care about it). Feel free to discuss merits of AP daily cap but please dont claim that it aims at disturbing the game experience of “everyone else”.

I never said everyone agrees with me. I just said your idea does nothing to improve the game for anyone…. it just puts limits on EVERYONE so ONE type of player can be satisfied in their mentality. It is never okay to limit others even if they wont notice that limit strictly to make a player mentality less taxing to maintain.

Like I said, one type of player wanting something isn’t a good enough reason to take away from everyone else. These is nothing stopping you from setting your own goals and stopping. There is no game update required for you to set goals for yourself.

The “entire thing for completionist players” is just that, a mentality that exists in players. If unlimited rewards upsets these players it is the players fault not the game fault. The game does not need to be tailored to satisfy the competition mentality in a way that prevents players to earn rewards in excess of your own goals no matter how high they might be. That is just selfish reasoning.

And like I said. Your “take away from everyone else” would concern who exactly? A few players who who wake up in year 2020 and complain that they dont get AP from dailies anymore? Im going to take on the same standard on both edges here. You say that taking away things from casual players and giving something to hardcore grinders would be bad becouse there are 500,000 casuals and 500 hardcore grinders (numbers made up by me). Needs of 500,000 overshadows needs of 500. Agreed. The problem is, adding a very high cap on dailies would never concern all those casuals becouse they would stop playing GW2 long before they would even reach the cap. Now to the other edge. You say that there might be few semi-casuals who will start to be upset in 2018-2022 that they stopped getting AP from GW2 dailies. I will take a bold assumption that the amount of completionist players upset with current daily scheme (as evidenced by several threads made about it in 2013) is greater than those few who would make their way to actually ever reach that cap and then be unhappy about no further daily AP progression. So where does this democratic system (which btw. keeps telling to get the kitten out if I dont like it) take us in this situation?

Just because you don’t find the number of people it will effect significant doesn’t make it a good idea in the interest of improving the game for everyone. You are still holding one group of players with more importance than the other and I don’t feel that is what this game is about.

Why even add a hard cap in the first place if its so insignificant and doesn’t effect anyone?

And yes I played the guild wars 1 for 8 years casually. So yes i would hit that cap, stopping me for earning additional rewards because some player that didn’t want people to earn extra AP in excess of what he wanted/could. I don’t find that a good enough reason to add a cap.

Becouse it adds a goal. A finish line. Killing 1,000,000 dolyaks in WvW might sound insane but it is a goal. Some people like aiming at goals. Goal serves as a motivator. The reason to make the cap high is exactly to not negatively affect people who just like to obtain some daily rewards. Getting 10 years worth of dailies would a humongous effort and hardly anyone would reach it. How many players maxed their PvP rank in GW1? If you are a GW1 veteran, you should know that very very few becouse it required insane grind. But there was a finish line on that race. With current daily design in GW2 there is no finish line. No goal to aim at and steer toward. If you are a completionist player you can either go all-in (which means debilitating grind where you cant even leave on vacationwithout Internet access) or throwing the towel and go play something else. If you dont give a kitten about AP the system is fine. But so it would be fine if a very high cap would exist which 99% of players will never reach anyway. But the existence of this cap alone would fix the entire thing for completionist players fixed at that AP grind.

Like I said, one type of player wanting something isn’t a good enough reason to take away from everyone else. These is nothing stopping you from setting your own goals and stopping. There is no game update required for you to set goals for yourself.

So let me get this strait…. You want to place a cap on how much AP ANY player could earn so you as a AP farming don’t have to feel compelled to do them? That is the most self centered reason I have ever heard.

There are a vast number of players that do not play every day like myself and would like to earn a little more AP for my chests in any given day to make up for days that I miss to unlock my chests.

Now you want to take that away from players like me limiting how much we can earn in a day, so you don’t have to feel compelled to do the grind to say on top of some obscure scoreboard? Leaving newer players without any means to catch up to older players because everyone would be earning the same AP every day.

Sounds like you want to have your cake and eat it to… you want to stay on top of that scoreboard without having to put any extra effort into it to hold that spot… You know you could always just stop doing them without taking them away from everyone else…. that is an option you know.

The game does not have to be tailored to sustain your narrow play-style. If you are not having fun keeping up with the leader board stop doing it, nobody cares that you are able to log in every day and earn all the APs.

Horrible idea, this does nothing to improve the game for anyone, it just takes away reward. If they are to tedious for you to do every day the solution is to simply stop doing them and be without those AP points without taking them away from everyone else.

It would be nice if before producing your angry text you would just please stop for one moment and think about it one more time. How does a hard cap take away anything from you in your situation?

Lets review an example. A cap does not mean amount of dailies available each day would go down. No, it would stay the same. Hell, they could even add more. A high cap of for example 20,000 AP from dailies would just mean that you will not get any more AP from dailies once you reach 20,000 AP from dailies only. With current AP daily rate it would take around 1333 days of full dailies to reach the cap. More than 3.5 years. If you are in a situation that you only do 10 AP from dailies on average, it would take you 5.5 years to reach the cap. If you only do dailies to get the laurel, but you do that every single day, it would take you 10 years to reach the cap. So please tell me, how does in your situation putting the cap on take away anything from you. Unless you are worried that you will stop gaining AP from dailies in year 2020. Are you?

Why even add a hard cap in the first place if its so insignificant and doesn’t effect anyone?

Rewards don’t make the actual format more or less fun. It is a very gimmicky pvp format that I do not find fun. Activities in this game offer a far more balanced playing field than sPvP will ever be able to offer.

Ascended crafting was a bad idea

in Crafting

Mireles Lore.5942

Just because YOU don’t want to craft, and its hurting YOUR method of making money off the trade post does not mean it was a bad move and Anet’s part and its hurting the trade post.

I think ascended armor was a good move.

It gave reason to craft when previously there was very little, but not overbearing to the point where you MUST have ascended armor to do content.

It gave value to previously worthless mid level materials. Now new players can make gold even easier than before for their gear before ascended. You can even make a fair amount of gold just leveling another character.

Ascended armor/weapons gives you a reward reason to keep participating in different areas of the game for the account bound materials needed. Its a way of giving players that actually play the game something as apposed to just farming it strait up on a champ train and buying it with gold.

Anet has acknowledged that the price of cloth items are high in there CDI thread, the amount of gold required for this armor at this moment is monumentally high and is something that they plan to fix. That being said, you can take advantage of the situation by selling your cloth items before the price of them is brought down by increases in supply.

Its not fun.

Activities vrs small groups of players are fun, because everyone has the same skills and stats. It is truly a skill based activity.

This is not the case for sPvP, there is and will always be some kind of gimmick build or class that is better than all others. No amount of rewards will make this format fun.

Its a game of gimmick not skill. You are either traited to counter or beat an enemy or you are not.

I don’t understand why

Common -> Fine -> Masterwork -> Rare -> Exotic -> Legendary….

Common -> Fine -> Masterwork -> Rare -> Exotic -> Ascended -> Legendary
is a gear treadmill?

Why? because it takes more than a handful of hours to get?

Basically, yes. Gear progression turns into a treadmill when you have to work hard to keep up with it. If you can come back after a lengthy absence, skip few tiers and equip yourself in BiS almost right away after login, it allows you to shortcut the whole “running to stay at the same spot” problem.

Gear progression is a treadmill when you are constantly throwing away your BIS armor because new BIS armor was introduced with new content and your old BIS armor simply isn’t capable of getting the job done now.

I guess its not a gear treadmill then because exotic armor is still plenty capable of getting any job done. Like others have noted in the forums in increase is really minuscule you can’t notice the slightest difference. You don’t NEED this armor to do anything.

That’s true to a point, but it’s gone so far that if you don’t farm you’re looking at years to complete some of these things. That’s a lot of dedication.
When I was playing in around November 2012, I figured that at the rate I was playing and getting drops, it would take me more than 3 years to get a legendary weapon, and things were A LOT cheaper then.

I don’t know about years, but I guess it does depend on your pace. I am a huge anti-farm player, because of the reason you already stated. I already work a job, and don’t want to labor in game. I have been playing since beta pretty regularly and it only took me until about march to have everything for my first legendary. That being said, legendaries are an aesthetic choice not meant for the casual, it is supposed to take a ridiculous amount of time and resources.

They will probably increase the drop/salvage rates at some point. Maybe even give us a new means to collect cloth. I would not expect them to directly alter requirements and yields as it would be adversely unfair to people that crafted before hand. An increase in supply output would ease the market and players into the change.

Farming T6 Mats

IMO, it’s gone a bit too far and the game has moved a bit too close to real life where you “farm” money in a soul-destroying job to buy the stuff you really want.

Not the game just people’s mentalities.

Its only like that if your only focus is getting stuff you want using the quickest and most tedious means possible as apposed to just enjoying the game’s playable content and letting gold and mats come to you as you go. Then yeah you are laboring in a game like its a job, which could happen in even the most casual of MMOs.

Is the best option just to farm gold and buy mats?

For the most part, Yes

There are forge recipes out there that can convert cores → lodestones and T5 Fine → T6 Fine, but these usually are not cost effective so you should check first.

Are the guild chats normally active? I’ve found a good guild keeps me coming back more than content itself does.

I can’t speak for other guilds, but as for mine… Yes, they are, and I agree, it is the primary reason I have played this game since release. There are many fine guild choices out there I’m sure.

One thing is for sure, you shouldn’t take your impression of the player base from this forum as there are many happier players not using the forums.

How much content did I ACTUALLY miss?

If you been gone a year, you missed alot of living story alot of it you wont be able to do. There are some permanent editions to the game such as a new twilight arbor path, new fractals, and tequatl boss fight you can check out but not alot.

I heard a little bit about ascended and stuff like that. Could I get a little insight on that and how it works and stuff?

Ascended gear isn’t that big of a leap over exotic in terms of stats, they have upped weapon and armor crafting professions to 500, added new materials, and required alot of materials that previously had no value. Crafting this armor is also time gated if you don’t want to buy the time gated materials off the trade post. If you been out for a year and before laurels came out, you got quite a bit to do to get this gear.

Is there any incentive to doing crafting and stuff?

Your motivation to craft is ascended equipment as it is the only way other than drops inside fractals of getting weapons and armor.

Hows the playerbase?

Alright I guess? I don’t wonder outside my own guild much. As far as guilds they don’t have much of a use outside of social activity, buffs, and guild missions….. when you find out about those.

dragonite ore are absurd...

Mireles Lore.5942

Bloodstone Dust – 1 hour of Champ Farm
Empyreal Fragment – 2-3 hours of Dungeons
Dragonite Ore – Doing every world boss meta possible in 24 hours, yup, you’re still short…

Indeed. And you essentially have to craft Ascended Armor in order to reasonably get 70 Agony Resistance for scale 50 Fractals. I can not bring myself to the mind numbing tedium of grinding world bosses and temple auto attack zergs, which effectively halts my progression in FotM…. This is something that I can not quite figure out.

I find it hard to believe that doing 200 fractals to get to 50 isn’t a “tedium of grinding” when compared to world bosses needed to get armor. Unless your definition of a grind is simply progression that you simply don’t want to do. I think its fair to say if that you are to casual or unwilling to get ascended armor, that level 50 fractals probably isn’t for you.

Needing 70AR for level 50 fractal doesn’t “effectively halt” your progression in FotM because you can’t go higher than 50. And there is not a reward for level 50.

Third you can get to 70 without needing armor at all… reasonably for people that have gotten to and already beat level 50 before armor even came out.

Infused rings and back piece with +10 agony infusions and +5 utility Infusions. 45 AR

5 Utility Infusions on accessories and amulet. 15 AR

+5 Utility Infusions on weapons. +10 AR

70AR total, not a single piece of armor required.

Don’t know if it would make the place any less deserted as you still have the same number of people spread over the same space, only difference is they are in a map chat with you.

Anet needs to give people a reason to go out there again. Like making the maps repeatable and be able to be completed again every month or so for rewards.

I think you’re playing the wrong game genre if you don’t want progression. What you, and others, seem to misunderstand is that GW2 isn’t a sandbox game.

Simple yet effective statement. If you dont progression in a game return to “chess, checkers, bridge, baseball, backgammon, Life, four square, volleyball, euchre, hearts, Settlers of Catan, Rook, Sorry, Boggle, Apples to Apples, Uno, Clue, Monopoly, Mousetrap, Yahtzee, Bejeweled, Peggle” because none of these are a RPG or even a video game.

Guildroster "Unknown"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mireles Lore.5942

Mireles Lore.5942

If members have “unknown” by their name means they have not logged in since the end of the Halloween event.

A tip from one guild leader to another. Have a specific rank for inactive check.

For example I have 9 ranks and 1 rank for inactive check. I take all members in the “Initiate” rank (my rank that does not require 100% rep) and move them to inactive at the beginning of the month until me or officers see them online and repping and move them back. Members still marked inactive at the end of the month, get kicked, and the process starts again.

I also do a leader-board check to remove any member above initiate status that has been inactive for longer than 6 months.

Is it ideal?…. of course not, but its what we got until Anet decides we can have some guild management features that were there in 1.

Super Gear Grind?

However as far as I can tell GW2 has a much longer, less rewarding and more frequent gear grind then WoW ever had.

And with that statement you lost any credibility to make any point you might have wanted to make. GW2 gear being more “grind-ier” than WoW is just laughable.

Mireles Lore.5942

So what your saying is yes, because ascended armor is not easy to get… by your definition makes it a gear treadmill.

Sorry not all of us feel that way, if they had said they planned to add more tier I might be inclined to agree with you. Easy and hard are subjective things, I don’t find it hard to obtain, just going to take a few weeks.

IE high level fractals, not even remotely considered casual content, much harder to get unlocked than ascended armor. I find it backwards that people use this as an excuse why it shouldn’t be hard to obtain or it should not exist.

You in no way have to “prepare for hours” in this game to have fun. Ascended armor is not restrictive to content. You can play content instead of grinding out materials and slowly save for it. It is people’s mentality that prevent them from doing this, not the game.

A gear treadmill game would require that you get the best gear to participate and constantly add more tiers, Guild Wars 2 does not.

The game needs some type of progression to be rewarded for playing or it wouldn’t even be a game. If not everyone would start at level 80 and have max gear. Sorry there needs to be some type of challenge and progression in a MMO, you cant always have everything here and now.

I don’t understand why

Common -> Fine -> Masterwork -> Rare -> Exotic -> Legendary….
is not a gear treadmill, but..

Common -> Fine -> Masterwork -> Rare -> Exotic -> Ascended -> Legendary
is a gear treadmill?

Why? because it takes more than a handful of hours to get?

I don’t understand the logic of that… Treadmill implies never ending, they planned on adding ascended gear very early in the game and are not adding anymore tiers.

Its just seems people like to complain when they can’t be instantly gratified and might have to actually put some time into something. Then proceed to make inflated claims to try to get their way.

I like how people pretend ascended armor and weapons is such a huge grind and use level 50 fractals, something you have grind through 200 individual fractals without fail to get to, as a reason why they should not have to “grind” new gear…

I don’t understand… how

Saving for and crafting weapons and armor that uses material and rewards throughout the game is a grind to over bearing.

But getting to level 50 fractals… totally not a grind worth complaining about, in fact its expected that everyone should be able to do this content in the context of this argument.

Sorry but if you make it to level 50 fractals (something that was not intended to be casual) you should have enough gold and resources to craft ascended gear a few times over. This argument is really really backwards in logic, it surprises me how much people will bend over backwards to criticize ascended gear acquisition.

Decline of the social element

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mireles Lore.5942

Finding a community in which to make friends to play and progress with is essential in this game. The open world can feel very lonely as there is really little to no motivation to coordinate.

The more engaging and challenging content are the dungeons, fractals, and spvp that require a coordinated group of 5. If you want to get larger scaled, you got world bosses, guild missions, and world vrs world.

All that being said… find a guild that you find socially welcoming it gives the game more depth no matter what your play style is.

Hello, Dark Night

You sound like a player that is exactly what we look for to bring into our guild. We are [XHSA] and have been a guild for over 7 years having moved from Guild Wars 1. Our focus is creating a social environment that encourages people to play with others because we feel that friends are the most important element in keeping the game fun and exciting.

We currently reside in Yaks bend, are about 300 members on a roster that is cleared monthly of in-actives. 70% of active players are in ranks that require 100% rep so seeing people repping wont be a problem. We have about 10-60 people online at any given time, we are most active the hours before and after server reset.

You can read more about us and how we do things at our website. http://xhsa.guildlaunch.com

Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Good luck with your hunt for a guild,

My opinion about GW2

Mireles Lore.5942

Think its a matter of misplaced expectations in this game. Alot of players I find are looking for a WoW replacement or a WoW2, this isn’t WoW2 its Guild Wars 2. It isn’t in a “race” to phase out WoW its a totally different product.

Could the game use more build variety?

Maybe but how much can you really add before you start getting into specialized roles that only certain classes and people can fill? That was a huge problem in Guild Wars 1 and its what they have done a good job of eliminating in 2.

If you have to follow a complaint with “in WoW” you are in the wrong game.

My opinion about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mireles Lore.5942

Mireles Lore.5942

The criticism seems to be “its not like WoW” in the way that each class is “very tailored to a specific function”. Thats because its not and it shouldn’t be, there are plenty of WoW clones but there aren’t other games quite like Guild Wars 2. It is a game for players that are tired of the holy trinity, like myself.

It is a game that was designed to be different. Coming here and saying its bad and you shouldn’t have bought it is like being displeased that an apple doesn’t taste like an orange, and making statements that it should be more like an orange. At that point you buy an orange not an apple.

I think more of the point is, through supposedly giving players more choice with their character, they effectively limited that choice completely to 1 role, with support being really the only viable alternative, and then it’s not viable in over half the game still.

I disagree, there are many roles you can play outside of pure DPS that you can do. You have only played to level 70 and have experienced none of the end game content to find it reasonable that you’ve tried everything a guardian has to offer.

Will it be as specified as you want it to where you don’t have to worry about things like doing damage or taking damage? Probably not, because this games purpose was to do away with that so people are not standing around spamming “GLF hero” tank, dps, healer, ect ect. It is in the games intent that classes are not specialized.

is gw2 a great game for farmers?!

I say if people want to farm this game like a full time job for digital items I say let them. I am a huge anti-farm player, I already have a real job don’t want to sit there and labor digital items out. But some people prefer this play style and its an essential part of an economy.

I played this game since beta and have a legendary and almost finished with my 2nd one and my ascended armor and I have yet to touch this champ train everyone does. Its funny to hear people say you are FORCED to farm. No your not, it just might take you a bit longer to obtain things playing normally, just because other people are out grinding all day doesn’t make your experience lesser or that you HAVE to do it as well.

I rather those farmers be out supplying the economy, spending gold on my items, and having something to do than other than being logged off.

I said you are forced to grind not forced to farm. That is a big difference. How did you for example get your (almost 2) legendary weapons? Explain me the progress. You went and did a specific dungeon to get your pre-cursor?. Oow no wait, thats not possible. It’s a to random drop. Same for many of the other items your need to make a lengendary.

More likely you did grind many content to earn gold and then with that gold buy most of the items you need. That is the grind-part.

Saved up gold for the precursor for my first completed (The Juggernaut), you know the reward that can be obtained anywhere in the game, not just from champ farming? You don’t have to grind to get gold, you save, you use your resources effectively squeezing out the most value you can out of materials by refining or crafting. Play the market every once in awhile, invest like on patches we just had. Just because the only means that seems acceptable to you is the fastest most tedious way possible does not mean you are FORCED to grind. That is your choice.

All my time is spent managing my guild and going out and participating in group activities with those friends and guildies, making these items was not my priority and probably took me many more months than grinders. These activities include WvW, dungeons, and fractals all drop materials you need and other valuables that can be converted into gold. It is as simple as saving while playing the game, it is only a grind if you make it a grind.

People are turning this game into something negative because having fun stopped being why they play the game. These people are to concerned of having the very best via the fastest means possible, approach any MMO like that, it will be a grind. If playing the game in general is a grind. Why are you here?

I don’t think Anet will be able to correct this behavior ever. There is no way to tell if a player was kicked for a legitimate reason or a malicious one.

What you need to do is either start the instance before you pug a group or find yourself a supportive guild/community that does fractals. Pugging for fractals is one of the worst things you can possibly do as you will get either guild groups that will kick you at the end, or just a collection of really horrible people.

While I like your ideas, in the mean time, I have been trying out new builds playing with the Last Chance Trait. Hitting a zerg with Earthsharker and someone in that hit drops below 50% it can be very deadly for anyone that was stunned. It is still the weapon it once was, you just might have to adjust your stats a little.

I agree most with Merciless Hammer, while hammer skill 3 draws fast enough to hit a knocked down foe, outside of that its only has synergy with earthshaker, adding a bonus to this trait when you strike foes with defiance would go a long way for PvE balance. Don’t know if I would do it for stability because while it shuts down hammer, every build does need an effective means of being countered for balance.

Just a tip..

Playing the tp means you are profiting other players.

Aside being unethical (imho but its a long debate), its NOT a viable solution for players.

If all players started to flip the TP, we would just obtain a 30% loss for everyone.

In the current situation you just have few players profiting at other players cost (+ 30% loss totaly on other players).

that is why i hate TP so much.
The damage is way worse than the benefit for the Whole community…but few players at least are rich without Killing a mob….

Its also the ONLY form of FORCED pvp in this game.

Thats cute, you always recognize the people that have no understanding of economics, markets, and the necessity of trade because they are the ones that pull numbers out of thin air to validate their baseless opinions.

The trade post in this game actually redistributes wealth from people that farm alot or buy gems to trade for gold, as most of these players have the mentality of they must have the latest and greatest as soon as it can be obtained. Alot of money can be made off of players such at the OP that wanted their armor ASAP.

For example, I am a player with a full time job and a family, I have very few hours to play on a day to day basis but I have amassed a wealth comparable to a dedicated farmer. How? It just takes a little critical thinking and planning ahead, making long term investments in preparation of updates such as this one. Without the trade post, I wouldn’t have much as I HATE farming, and don’t have as many hours to generate income in game.

Congrats btw OP, may the advantage of having ascended armor before most people be long and fruitful.
