Another viable option would be allow conditions to “crit”, not for double damage, but for double duration.

Actually, the better way to do condition criticals would be to compress the damage into half the duration, so a 10 second bleed becomes a 5 second bleed that deals the same total damage.

If you use Impossible Odds for DPS (you should), you’ll be putting up 5.75s of might every second without any runes or food.

I don’t plan to run Shiro at all, but regardless, if a trait requires an expensive energy skill to go from ehhh to decent, then the trait seems inherently flawed.

Thinking about the jump start, because I could use more bank tabs, and the bag slots do have some use…but if those two bag slots had been replaced with an extra character slot, this would be a complete no-brainer.

This will give me 100% bleed duration, 50% standard duration, and 70% chill duration increases. At 2300 condition damage I do decent dps.

I’ve been running this same basic setup for some time now (with blood magic currently). It is so much fun, and I love that someone else is doing the same, though it looks like you intend to spend more time in scepter than staff. I have Parasitic Contagion and Soul Marks instead of lingering curses and unyielding blast. I believe I currently have plague sending, but plan to switch to chilling darkness for another source of chill. I will probably use relentless pursuit in the Reaper minor slot. I currently use Plague as an elite.

Gear-wise I am running all dire gear. Because I like to use my necro when I go into WvW, and because I will no longer have blood magic, I feel like Traveler runes are going to be a must have.

Yeah, that’s what I had figured. As it stands, especially because of the short duration, but I’m not very excited about the other majors either. The protection is super short. The stun break is a neat idea, but seems really situational.

The Reaper trait Chilling Force has a similar design with a 1s icd and also very short might stacks (5s). Hopefully both will get a bit of a duration increase. It’s great to be able to stack might in a hurry, but if you have to constantly maintain it, there’s no time to do anything but focus on that.

Shared Empowerment alone may be easily 4 extra stacks every 3 seconds for almost 6 seconds (with 15% duration from trait) from just 1 upkeep active, meaning almost 8 stacks from only 1 upkeep in a group of at least 5. A lot more with 2 upkeeps, imagine 3.

So, you think we will get one stack from shared empowerment for each ally? I hope you are right about that. Also, with the ICD, I wonder about ticks from different abilities occurring within the ICD (and not counting). I guess we will see how it shakes out during next BWE.

Some of these changes look interesting, but I thought the two biggest complaints (by a wide margin) were activation times on virtues and projectile speed for the longbow, neither of which has been addressed.

To be honest i just dont think that there is enough Chill in the reaper or Necro in general for that matter to make any real use of Chilling Force(CF).

There are ways to increase chill uptime. I’d like to put that aside for a minute and focus on what the trait actually does and ask if it deserves to be improved (e.g. longer might stacks as I have been asking for). Considering you can get might stacks of 10 and 15s from Spite, I don’t see why these can’t be increased a little.

You are looking at it the wrong way. Dagger auto attack should be better than greatsword. But greatsword should provide better burst and other tools. Then you can have a dagger + greatsword rotation.

In their mind, GS has to be worst than dagger in a 1v1 situation, they only uped it, because it was even worst than they actually intended.

If GS were equal to dagger against a single target and was also better against multiple targets, why would anyone use dagger?

Guys, I’ve been trying to beat the drum for longer might time for Chilling Force in the official BWE thread. If you feel the same way, please post in support up there.

The build I am using is a bit different, but not totally. I currently run Curses/SR/Blood but plan to go Curses/SR/Reaper. I use Staff and Scepter/dagger with Dire gear and am built around Master of Corruption. I will be using Dhuumfire and Deathly Chill.

You guys bring up some really interesting rune choices, but since I like to WvW with this character and I am giving up blood magic, I feel like Traveler runes are pretty much mandatory.

Basically chilling force was only good for burst might stacking after burst chilling a large groups of mobs. Thats a pretty disappointing niche use. Especially as it had so much potential and created more diversity before the ICD was introduced.

I think the ICD pretty much had to be there because of the Life Force generation (which I don’t care about, but realize others might appreciate). But you’re right, this trait isn’t going to be very good against single targets, which comes back to increasing the might duration would be appreciated. Apologies for beating the topic to death.

Superior Rune of Rage gives basically 100% Fury uptime just with Invoker’s Rage, plus 7% extra damage.

Sure, Superior Rune of Strength gives 1 Might every 5 seconds, but it’s very easy to stack 25 Might on Herald alone

The wiki says Rune of Rage is 5% extra, not 7%. Am I missing something? The extra fury just seems like a waste to me.

How are you stacking 25 might with Herald alone? I’m not seeing it.

I’m totally good with that kind of setup (not being able to spam skills) since I prefer using skills situationally rather than having complex skill rotations. But, that means that skills need to feel powerful/rewarding when used.

I hope a number of people will really focus on that during the next beta: whether skills feel rewarding relative to their energy cost.

You have the option to take chilling force. With GS having chill built into the attack chain, LF shouldn’t be a problem.

Glad you like it (seriously). It’s my least favorite of the three. That different people like different things is a good sign. Even though I really want to take onslaught, I think the chill damage is going to be too good to pass on after the buff.

There is a slight cost difference, though. Oh, and crit will be 81% with fury after the changes, not 71%.

Feels like a pretty solid build to me.

My current plan is pretty similar, though I do intend to use sword/shield. I expect to try the cleanse on legend swap instead of fury on heal.

Still trying to figure out armor. Which amulet and rings are those?

The amount of protection is seriously high. Which class has access to similiar amount of protection? All i have in mind is bunker guardian and nobody else.

You didn’t even mention shield 4 or Jalis.

Yeah, it was more versatile before, but aside from Glint, none of the others have much versatility, so I guess that was what they wanted.

I’m actually worried that Revenant is going to be kind of painful to level. So many cool toys once we get access to Glint, but it would have been nice to have all that swiftness/fury/protection/etc while leveling.

And so will the minor adept trait from Spite while in Shroud, without the need for chill, and give you plenty of time to exit shroud and do other things. The stacks from Chilling Force will evaporate in an instant. A little breathing room would be nice.

And all three together means perma-stack of 25 might pretty early in a fight (plus YaaW can ramp up your might (and life force, if you have Blighter’s Boon) very quickly. Reaper has a ton of might sources and if you use Strength runes, you are going to be doing very well for yourself in terms of might stacking and maintenance

I’d be surprised if people using Spite weren’t using Decimate Defenses instead. Chilling Might seems like it was intended as a way to get some might without the Spite tree. At any rate, I don’t see why the fact that there are other sources of might available to the profession should justify why this particular one is so short relative to the others. Not asking for the moon here, it just seems a bit short.

Comparing might sources between the Spite and Reaper lines, the might provided by chilling force is really short (5s). Any chance we could get a bit of a bump to at least 10 seconds?

The DH isn’t really that bad. I believe all the mechanics are in place the only things that need to be done are some bug fixes on the longbow skills, making virtues instant cast, fixing projectile speed of AA & some audio/visual adjustments.

Agreed. The other thing I’d like is at least one more hit on LB 5 and a much shorter cooldown.

I enjoyed using Procession of Blades. I don’t really have room for more than one utility in my current setup.

I think the biggest reason people so welcomed the weapon swap was the lack of ranged melee swapping with a class that had all but 1 melee sets.

Very much true. If the weapons had all been designed to function at melee and range, there’d have been no need. But I think it would have needed to be more involved than what they did with the spear. I think every power would have needed two abilities depending on whether you had a target within range or not. That could have made for some interesting play with jumping back and forth (e.g. with Shiro)

It’s like with the ele’s attunement swaps or the engi’s kit swaps, so yes, I think legend swapping triggers weapon sigils.

Yes I can confirm it does, watched some videos and saw someone triggering geomancy through legend swapping, which considering we only have one condi weapon, is a very smart mechanic.

just a thought, but if you wanted to do condi rev, you could stick to mace as main hand and swap only the off hand. A rune that activates on swap would still function on the mace.

I was planning to go with Berserker Armor with Strength runes, alongside Valkyrie trinkets, as that’s what i already have.
Berserker weapons, sword/shield (or sword/sword) and Hammer/staff, depending on whether or not I’ll need ranged.

Makes sense. I was thinking the opposite because Valkyrie armor is much cheaper, but if you’ve already got it, no need to switch.

I’m thinking possible Hoelbrak runes for the condition duration reduction.

Ventari will probably see use in the quirky encounters where only the tablet can block projectiles (like Tom in Uncat Fractal).

I was stacking 25 might on the reaper in the BWE without even being aware of it, i wasn’t sure what i was doing, I’d just occasionally look down and see that i had 25 stacks.

Beat me to it. That’s from hitting chilled enemies iirc. Chronomancer can also stack a ton of might, but I don’t see it necessarily being used by many (more work than with Reaper and requires constant shattering, which most don’t want to do).

I think resistance would also be acceptable. Protection kind of steals Jalis’s elite’s thunder.

Resistance would be nice, but 100% uptime (which the auras give) would be too strong. Not sure about it stealing Jalis’ thunder, as that is a much higher level of protection.

On topic though, i personally don’t see a reason to run Shiro as a legend, the traits are nice, but the legend is just outshined in pve DPS by glint now Imo.

Currently, if it remains unchanged, the Revenant will be able to keep up permanent might and fury on the party, while still maintaining a positive energy regen, granted it’s only 1 regen instead of the 5, but it’s still regen.

Kind of glad I’m not the only one (though I don’t generally worry about what others think). I could see Shiro stance being great for pvp, but for PvE, outside of the quickness (which is a great thing mind you) I don’t see it adding much.

What do you think about gear setup with that plan? I’m thinking Valkyrie with Berserker trinkets. Lots of potential choices for runes.

Really depends how it functions and what the traits for glint are.

Sword 3 sounded and looked cool but it wasnt very impressive and still needed changes.

If there’s any damage modifiers in that trait line you will take it 100% of the time. As for the facet I would still have to see it in action before i made the call.

The idea potentially of perma protection though isnt too shabby in group settings.

Running protection all the time is going to be rough with an upkeep of 5. Also, remember that aside from Glint, the stances are not tied to the legends. So, you can use Devastation without taking Shiro (and there are traits in that line that would work well for that).

I want to use Rev for Dungeons and Fractals. I’m thinking I’m going to spend the majority of my time in Glint Stance (for perma-fury). I’m trying to decide what the second stance should be.

The primary draw for me for Shiro would be quickness. The draw for Jalis would be condition removal and survivability until I can get back into Glint stance (and presumably, being forced out of Glint stance would be because shield 5 was already on cd or burning through too much energy).

With all the Fury we get from Glint we can finally take that condi cleanse on legendswap from Invocation. Is it going to be enough? 1 condition every 10 seconds.

There is no shield cool down trait either, would be nice to have a separate trait that reduces the cool down on shield skills and provides the boon increase on skill use. Not sure where it’d fit in though.

I don’t think any of the elite spec weapons have CD traits available, nor CD traits for new profession mechanics. Anyone know of any?
