Personally I think some folks are way too hung up on the number of maps. They may end up being right in the long run, but we have little info on the size/density/etc. One giant zone overflowing with things to do is worth a lot more than a few small ones with nothing happening.

I’ve been looking at something like this myself: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vlAQRAsX5sn3geNSuQvJRboJlsP0jS4I6SJ4EtrklTlhNpnmKNgDWwe93nH-TJxHwAr2fwYZAxPBAAnEAA

Carrion hybrid build with Mallyx/Glint. This is all pretty hypothetical since I still haven’t preordered to be able to playtest it, but the idea is for something that deals strong condition damage while still having respectable physical damage as well. I swapped the offhands so that I’d have both a defensive skill and some sort of condition access with each set, and the high boon uptime should help boost damage a bit.

I went straight power because I have been playing condi builds on other classes and I think it’s a bit of an uphill battle for Revenant without a ranged condition weapon. I think if I were going to do a hybrid build, I’d want to go for Sinister (which I know isn’t available in PvP) or something similar and use hammer with crit-based sigils as one of the weapons. but then, I just love the gosh-darned hammer so much.

What does Rev bring to the PvE meta?
.

Flexibility and making everybody else’s boon sharing better. For instance, adding 50% to that stealth & might duration. Perma-fury as an option. Perma-protection as an option. Perma-swiftness as an option. A dedicated healing setup should that ever be useful (e.g. In raids). Condition Resistance (unaffected by conditions while this is active). Lots of other things (keeping in mind they can’t do all this stuff at once).

In my opinion, they don’t completely replace Guardian or anything else, but they can plug holes in a group and generally provide support in a variety of ways while providing good dps.

Nothing fancy, really. Glint/Jalis, invocation/devastation/herald, berserker gear. Primarily an offensive setup, but using Jalis for extra defensive options when forced to swap out of Glint.

I don’t know if there is a way to fix this. If the buffs don’t stack, people will do enough to get max rewards and stop. If they do stack, some will tag and run to the next event. Requiring you to stay to the end, means some people will try to get to events that are almost done, finish it and move on. I’m not sure there is an easy way to get around certain types of behavior.

well, we don’t know if the individual events are supposed to have their own rewards or not. If it turns out the gold participation rewards are significantly better, it might balance out.

It would be nice to know how the event is supposed to work and whether we will be receiving rewards retroactively.

edit: just noticed it looks like they are halting the event for the moment (“The mordrem invasion is withdrawing for now”) though given there are three areas, and there has been one round in each, this could have been the plan all along.

Revenant can easy play with Condis.
Look at Guard he has hmm 0 mainhand condi Weapon and look at Burn Build.
Rev is in a good Spot.

Not sure if you’re being serious or not, but that comparison is completely irrelevant. Guardian is a Condi weapon unto itself. Besides, they do have a main-hand Condi weapon, scepter (not technically, no, but works great for it).

I’m going pure power with my Revenant, but I can completely understand the desire for more options. Just leave hammer as is and I’m a happy camper.

are guardians threatened by reves?

in Guardian

Posted by: Misguided.5139

Misguided.5139

Rather than threatened you should be happy because Guardian + Revenant combo is looking juicy! Especially with Herald’s Facet of Nature.

This is what I keep telling people. The two go together extremely well. Guardian and Revenant are like peanut butter and jelly. Both are good, but together they can be amazing.

And yes, Mallyx can handle conditions, but it isn’t a strength of Revenant on the whole. A lot of people seem to want to run Shiro/Glint which has virtually no way to remove conditions (I plan to run Jalis/Glint, personally). I don’t think Ventari will see much use outside of specialized situations (raids, perhaps, or maybe for defensive builds in pvp).

I personally would like to see Forced Engagement to become an upkeep skill. Giving it a taunt every so often and slow. If turned off while energy is above a certain amount it causes the target to be pulled to the revenant or causes a decent amount of damage in case of bosses.

I certainly think that could work, I just don’t know if it’s realistic. It appears they want the non-Glint lines to each have one. Could just be coincidence, but I tried to stick within that framework. Though if I had the choice of one skill to make an upkeep, it would be inspiring reinforcement.

Here’s a crazy idea, but what about some sort of powerful effect if the break bar gets depleted? Like casting One with Nature?

Perhaps if it only affected allies and not the player. Otherwise it would limit the downside to having the breakbar depleted, mainly because of the protection.

Sorry, was just an example and the first thing that came to mind that was related to Herald…how about Chaotic Release, then (centered on Revenant)?

It isn’t that DH is awful for condition builds, but outside of maybe working a trap into the build, there’s not much reason to.

Close …. slow and hard hitting would be fine, but as it is it’s just slow and meh. I literally lose more than half of my dps switching from sword to hammer. It’s supposed to feel slow and heavy. It just feels slow.

Keep in mind that sword is limited to three targets while Hammer can hit five, considerably more spread apart (albeit in a line). Sword HAS to do more damage against fewer opponents. If hammer were brought up anywhere near the single target damage of sword, it would be completely overkill against groups. I feel like hammer is in a good spot. Moreover, the delay between hits gives you a chance to adjust positioning, which can be important for hitting multiple targets.

I mean no disrespect, but with easy access to swiftness and/or quickness, if you can’t manage to get a hit in from range before the zerg has closed to melee and a champion is dead, it sounds like you were awfully late arriving.

I agree it can be frustrating to miss the tail end of an event or tagging an enemy, but blaming the auto attack seems like quite a stretch.

Hmm….I like it as 2s. This way I can use it as defensive tool. Any reduction on our defenses will imbalance our other aspects i.e. make us more vulnerable to conditions.

I’d prefer to keep it as is too. But if they do decide to go that route, I’d rather try a modest change first.

The other thing that some people have been talking about is that when people got wrecked in 1v1, it was likely a combination of Shiro’s heal with UA. It could be that the only thing that really needs to be looked at is how those two skills interact.

These kinds of moment to moment gameplay choices were happening all the time while I was playing Revenant, and I hope sincerely that these types of choices can be infused into the Elementalist and Engineer at some point. Right now, there ARE times when it makes sense to camp vs swap on cool down on Revenant, but I feel that, even with the Tempest, there is never a benefit to camping an Attunement (outside of my support ele which camps water and earth).

Well said. I described Herald the other day as Swiss Army knife with a bunch of tools to do different things. I love the Revenant for the flexibility to handle various situations and aid a group in a multitude of ways depending on what is needed at a given time.

@Bunnytown

Thanks for providing some pvp perspective.

I like the idea of Forced Engagement as a stun break. I had tinkered with it before I started this post, but went with the pull idea instead. But after you and Terra pointed out how odd Rite is as a stun break, maybe the answer is to go that way.

Stability would certainly make sense on Rite, but it would overlap with IR too much. How about something like immunity to movement-impeding conditions (immobilize/cripple/chill) for the duration?

Heck, I’m tempted to say put the stability on Rite and the immunity to movement-impeding conditions on Inspiring Reinforcement (maybe with longer area of effect). Maybe I’m starting to overthink all of this too much.

Jalis BWE #2 Deep Dive

Misguided.5139

With regards to the pull, I like it but I think it’s unlikely because of:

  • Thief’s Scorpion Wire – 1200 pull on 20s cd

I think Taunt may be needed more often than that and to put a 1200 pull on it would mean a much longer cd than 3s which it stands at. As a thief main, I know how trolly/ fun scorp wire can be in pvp/wvw and to have it on a low cd would be awesome but unbalance compare to thiefs’.

Having said that, I wouldn’t rule it completely out because to regen 50 energy would be at least 10s so although not spammable, it’s still much less than scorp wire (plus the fact it’s a taunt/slow).

Yes, I was figuring on a cooldown of at least 12 seconds, more likely 15 (matching up with a couple of weapon-based pulls…typically utilities have longer CDs but Revenant skills tend to have short CDs because of the energy cost). If Roy likes this idea, they could always increase the duration on the taunt, which might justify keeping the energy cost closer to it’s current amount (which I think everyone agrees is way too high for the current version).

If pull is a no-go, then I say make Forced Engagement a stun break with a 35 cost.

@Knighthonor

When I was going through this I kept trying trying to add a stun break somewhere other than the elite, but nothing seemed right (I wanted to put it on Forced Engagement, but ended up going with the pull instead). I’m not opposed to one on the heal, provided it isn’t the only one. As for upkeep skills, seems like they are trying to stick to one per legend (other than Glint) though it could certainly work for Inspiring Reinforcement.

@Terra
Any thoughts on the pull for Forced Engagement?

I get where you are coming from with the elite. Honestly, I’m not sure what to suggest that would make it more fun to use without threatening to make it overpowered, diminish it as a stun break by adding a long cooldown (and as you pointed out, it is already an oddity there), or tromp on the territory of another legend (e.g. By adding resistance). I can see it being useful in fractals where you have to maintain position (e.g. Standing on a switch) and perhaps in raids, but that’s awfully situational.

Taldren,

If that’s correct, then you just proved their point, since UA is nearly double Blurred Frenzy, with more range, and on a shorter cooldown, albeit with an energy cost.

Um, it scales at 3x the rate with power.
It can hit 24 times (up to 3 targets per swing x 8 swings) vs 7 max.
It has a 9.5s cooldown traited (something you can’t do with Rev sword).
It also counts as a single attack so you don’t have to worry about things like fire aura, chaos shield, confusion, retribution, ect.

… and it also doesn’t have an energy cost that can stop mesmers from doing things like shatter.

The complaints I have seen regarding UA have centered around 1v1. Blurred Frenzy may be better against multiple targets, but no one is complaining about UA vs multiple targets. TBH, I don’t pvp much, so don’t have a horse in the race, I just don’t want the skill wrecked for PvE because of PvP issues.

The pull idea is interesting, however considering Jalis is associated with the ranged hammer, I’m not sure it makes too much sense if you want to stay at range from your target but I agree this skill needs more than what it has right now.

You could give Weakness to Vengeful Hammers but I feel like this is just adding more to a skill which already has a bunch of random things going on. To be honest this skill really needs a full rework.

Perhaps you are right with Resistance and Mallyx but I hope not since I feel like it makes sense for Jalis to get both Protection and Resistance so he is tanky and survivable against multiple offenses.

I gave some thought to making FE be a Pull above 600 and a push below 600 (similar to how some of the traits work), but I avoided it since there are no similar skills and I was doing my best to make suggestions I thought they might actually implement, even if they weren’t perfect. I feel like Jalis lacks any sort of way to recover or get quickly into a fight. I don’t think the pull is perfect, but represents an improvement on a skill I have no idea why anyone would use, currently. I considered a leap to target instead, but that seemed too aggressive/encroaching on Shiro’s turf.

As for the hammers, Roy said they wanted the hammers to give the player the ability to stand in the thick of the fight. From that POV, I think the damage reduction, heal, and weakness work well together. I rather like it, even as it currently sits, as a tool for dealing with swarms like raptors. The weakness would make it a better tool for dealing with a single hard target.

One last thing, I disagree with Jalis being associated with the ranged hammer. The legends (aside from Herald) are already so tightly pigeon-holed into one type of play, I think it is better not to consider them that way (which may be part of the reason Vengeful hammers feels so odd to you).

For Forced Engagement, I suggested (in addition to reduced cost) adding a pull. For Vengeful Hammers, I suggested moving the weakness from Inspiring Reinforcement (which needs all kinds of help, currently) to VH. While that wouldn’t directly address the condition problem you described, it might help somewhat by further mitigating non-condition damage.

I have a feeling they want to keep resistance a Mallyx thing.

Herald is just too strong compared to the Rev’s Core Specs

Herald isn’t too strong. The other legends are too narrowly defined, which is only problematic because of the inability to tailor utility skills to our personal playstyles. Herald brings desperately needed flexibility to the Revenant. It would be better if it were part of the core profession, but that’s not going to change.

I don’t disagree that it would have been better if there were more time to iterate, but it isn’t as if these things are locked down upon release.
