Whats going to happen when those rumored chinese servers are launched?

I’d imagine they’ll have their own set of servers, not related to our lineup.

I can, however, see that some of the SEA coverage across the existing servers will drop significantly…

I imagine a good number of the Oceanic population as well.

I guess it would depend if the games are even compatible… It looks like, assuming the leaks are legit, that the Chinese version of the game will carry a few notable differences…

Ah, I didn’t realize they’d be that different; was assuming they were just contemplating adding a new WvW ladder.

Seems i’ve hit a nerve. But i stick to what i said, DB greatly benefited from KN falling from the tier, in more ways than one. I’m not sure why you’re taking issue with it now, you were happy to have guilds from KN. I’m expecting the same thing to occur with JQ. Call me cynical.

Are you somehow inferring that we’re bad people because KN fell, or that people transferred here?

That’s what it sounds like to me, and I’m just trying to understand if that’s what you actually believe.

This is simply a ridiculous argument, and pointless.

Is ranking somehow illegitimate because … someone else fell apart?

I’m sure a lot of us were raised with the everyone-gets-a-trophy mindset, so I’ll offer this little tidbit: Every time a server moves up, another one moves down. That’s what happens when you keep score.

I like Wreckdya and Krew, they were an asset to Dragonbrand WvW and I miss them.

But claiming they carried the server is a mild exaggeration to say the least.

Krew’s last week on Dragonbrand the server scored 255k points.

Dragonbrand’s first week without Krew the server scored 263k points.

Both weeks Dragonbrand was fighting Sea of Sorrows and Yaks Bend. There was no other major guilds transfering onto or off of any of these three servers during this period. Had Krew truly been carrying Dragonbrand’s NA, it would have been reflected in at least some point loss. Instead we see a point gain.

I agree 100%.

Wreck and [Krew] as a whole were one of my favorites to follow when I joined WvW solo, as I usually do. I recall a number of awesome fights following those guys around and playing cat-and-mouse with BT.

But to say the server was carried by that one guild is ridiculous at best. I recall thinking, “crap, looks like one of our best wvw guilds left,” but it’s not like we suffered much from it, given it was the time SoS dropped down. It may have had more of an effect were we fighting FA or TC, but in the end, saying that one guild “carried” a T3 server during NA is just … stupid.

Well, the Eagles were just awful, so I don’t think that’s a fair comparison. Maybe more like the Detroit Tigers.

I’m happy for NNK that they finally get to have some fights in their time zone. So for that reason, I’m glad we are in tier 2. It gives them a chance to have fun battles. But, from a North American viewpoint, I don’t really care if we are in tier 2 or tier 3, or 4. We’ll have decent battles in all of these tiers. So if the bandwagonners leave, so be it.

I agree with everything you said and it’s unfortunate that by now. Thief class is the ‘Golden Child

In the last patch; Mug was “patched”-nerfed perse’ and do you know what, they were Rewarded for it in return; “Now heals the thief from a range of 1980 health to 2700 health”

Just last week, a player has posted a new video of Perma-Stealth in action and when I saw that, it all made sense; we’ve been Fooled; it was all Deceptions

Seriously ask yourself this question. has there been 1 patch which impacted this class in a non-Rewarded way?

Of course not!!

That class is still able to “ride the waves” as before and continue to be *Rewarded*for their Imbalance Advantage Supremacy in this game by the devs.

*Thief class is the Best, and most Wonderful Adored class in the eyes of gw2 team designers and the devs".

As the *Gold Child class, in the eyes of Arenanet, they can Never do any wrong or harm*. They are Rewarded for Everything; they do They are given the Best of Everything, They are Perfect, They get Away With Everything they do

They are “lifted up” by Stealth mechanic and by the devs who *Promotes and Justifies their action .

The Golden Child is here to stay..

They’re not the “Golden Child,” they are just not very good in competitive SPvP.

The design philosophy for a while was to have performance in all parts of the game as similar as possible, and we’re still feeling the effects of that philosophy in class balance in WvW and PvE.

Until the shift is fully made to clearly separate PvP balance from the rest of the game, you’ll see things like the recent Thief changes.

Or, until like Thieves, all classes have viable low skill-cap builds. But it looks like separating is easier than complete revamps of half the classes.

Wait, you have dodge bound to two different keys? Any reason for that?

It’s just what felt most comfortable for me, as I’m usually strafing with Q or E. If I’m holding down E, it’s easier to press A, and similarly with Q and D. I started off with it only bound to A, but being occasionally awkward, I changed it.

I found that the resting position for my hand feels much more natural on three side-by-side buttons, than it does resting on W, A, and D. This has saved me a lot of discomfort in the long run, and I highly recommend anyone to give it a shot.

I came to the same conclusion, except I didn’t move over as you did.

My keybinds are:

1, 2, 3, 4, R are weapon abilities

Q – left strafe; W – forward; E – right strafe

A – dodge; S – back; D – dodge

Shift + 1-4 – Shatters

Heal + utilities are Mouse 4-7

Elite is Mouse 3

My ideas for Scepter:

#1:
Ether Bolt – no change
Ether Blast – applies 3s of bleed
Ethereal Winds – bounces once to closest friend or foe, giving 3s retaliation or 2s confusion

#2:
Clone spawns on button press, instead of on block. Clone still casts Ether Bolt.

#3:
Reduce the activation animation slightly.

I’m open to the last attack in the chain causing a second of burn instead of confusion.

Ralathar, I appreciate your effort in breaking down confusion by the numbers, but I wish you had avoided the obvious bias, on top of only using best-case calculations.

As others have already mentioned, confusion suffers from being the only condition that can be 100% negated by doing absolutely nothing. That, coupled with a relatively short duration gives some semblance of balance when you consider the scaling.

Again, I appreciate the effort, but to do an honest breakdown we need to go a bit further and account for more variables, and the conclusions we reach then may or may not be different.

There’s so many ways to dissipate a condition so it’s really easy to get rid of confusion

Confusion is the last thing any condition removal gets rid of. Its very hard to get rid of it, not easy, especially if you dont have tons of condition removal. My guardian runs 3 shouts, shouts recharge 20% faster, shouts convert a condition to a boon, and shouts remove a condition. So thats 2 2 condition removers on a 25 second timer, and 1 2 remover on a 45 second timer, as well my F2 skill which removes 3 on a 1.5 minute timer, with another move that gives it back on a 1.5 min timer. Not only that, but I have traited to remove a condition every 10 seconds, and my heal also removes a condition every 10 seconds (unless I use it, its a signet) And I CANNOT remove confusion faster than a decent mesmer or engi can apply it. Mainly because all the other conditions they apply get removed first. I’m glad confusion got nerfed into the ground, its was a crap thing to die to, and theres no defense to it. What are you suppose to do? run away from them slowly (guardian runs fkin slow) while waiting for it to wear off repeatedly while they melee you down?

Can you provide some clear evidence that confusion is always the last condition removed? Because I frankly don’t believe that to be the case.

I also play a Necro, and I enjoy fighting confusion classes with him because I either put those stacks right back on them, or I eat them for a huge heal. And that’s using 3 abilities. I don’t have a guardian and know next to nothing about them, but I was always under the impression they were masterful condition cleansers when built for it.

The problem with confusion is not that bad players attack through it. But that good players have to stop attacking.

In an action MMO, skills that make you not attack should be few and far between. That is why there is no long duration crowd control in GW2.

Confusion should be at the level where it doesn’t totally kill someone who attacks through it. Instead, it should be a risk factor where someone has to decide to attack, burn condition removal or withdraw.

The only question now is where is that level.

I agree with that sentiment to a large degree, I’ve felt that confusion was supposed to be collateral damage, not the focal point of damage. Very similar to how Engineers benefit from confusion — it’s a nice addition to your already potent bleed, poison, and burn.

Unfortunately for the condition Mesmer, we’re encouraged to focus more on confusion, as our ability to apply the other conditions are nowhere near as efficient as the other classes. So, in the meantime, we see a large percentage of our damage output cut by 50%. Imagine the uproar from appropriately spec’d Necros, Rangers, Guardians, etc. if the patch notes said Bleed or Burn damage were halved.

Once again anet, necromancers are kitten you can get knocked down with stability? in lich form, and in in DS with stability elementalists using air 5 knocked me to the ground. So the weak kitten stability we have is useless. GOOD JOB ANET you are continuing to just lose my patience with your game.

so sick of this clear love for mesmers and ele aoe and knockdowns while giving them so much kitten stability. It is so clear that they dislike necros and are in kitten love with eles, mesmers, and thieves.

I like how you toss Mesmers (who get nerfed every patch) in there, who have 1 ability that gives them stability, and it’s hardly ever used. Thieves only get stability from Dagger Storm, which is used much more often but still only 1 ability.

Perhaps if you’re so in love with what the other classes can do, you should just re-roll?

WvW Necro bug part 2 : Minions

I played a Mage for many years in EQ. For the most part, EQ pet AI was excellent. Pets attacked what you told it to and didn’t attack what you didn’t specify (if you had pet hold). The only issue sometimes was pathing, which is to be expected (I guess, pets should ignore pathing imo, which they do on many emulated EQ servers).

I’ve leveled both a Ranger and a Necro to 80, so I understand your pain. I constantly wished for the EQ interface / system over the current GW2 system. I’m not sure how it is so bad considering how amazing the rest of the game is.

I’ve had almost the exact same thought, comparing a nearly 15 year old experience in EQ to the pets now. It is a little frustrating; I’d almost welcome seeing my pet off fighting Innoruuk by himself and bringing the entire Plane of Hate with him. At least he’d be fighting something.

The matchup isn’t what I’d consider terribly lopsided in the first place. Don’t whine.

If you’re losing and you want an advantage, try getting better.

Depending on how you guys want to play, I think a Guardian is perfect. If you’re both going melee, you have great damage and support which are excellent synergies.

I play both as well.

For dungeons, the Necro will be a better “healer” support, while the Mesmer will bring more offensive and utilitarian support.

For tPvP, I can’t say much as I only do it sparingly.

WvW both are great. The Necro will shine in AE situations, so surf those zergs and you’ll get carpal tunnel from all the bags. The Mesmer is probably best roaming or small scale fights. That’s not to say the Necro can’t do very well in small scale and the Mesmer in zergs, I just personally think they excel the other way around.

How To Counter Regen Builds?

A condition necro has a leg up from the beginning when fighting these types of builds.

High poison uptime, which cuts healing by 1/3, and conditions in general which ignore the 40% armor mitigation.

You will also love fighting anyone that tries to use conditions on you, as you have a heal which is more effective the more conditions it clears on you, and two low-ish cooldown condition transfers.

I’ve been under the impression that the /wave was the “I come in peace” sign, and a /bow is actually “let’s duel.” The sort of duel where you don’t spike someone when you down them.

This is what Mag has been saying for months. Total score doesn’t really show anything, which is why we usually look for even fights or GvG instead. I don’t know why t3 suddenly cares so much about the total score so much.

That’s really what most of the level-headed folk say anyway.

Look, every T3 matchup thread since SoS dropped has been the same: The weekend starts off and everyone’s having a good time, and then by Monday morning someone is crabbing that DB is leading only because of PvDoor. Throughout the week, a few of us try to say exactly what you said: the score doesn’t matter in the first place, just have fun (or if the score matters to you, feel free to transfer to JQ). By the end of the week a few DB trolls come out and pound their chests and pretend they’re the sole reason we’re winning.

I don’t know if it continues because people are stupid or they’re sadists, but it continues nonetheless. And I imagine this thread will be somewhat similar.

Honestly that is my point. It does not matter really who is winning. Are you having fun taking keeps, towers, camps? Is the excitement of going out with a new build bringing you back? Are you soloing camps watching the clock, hoping that you are not being noticed and DPSing as fast as you can in hopes that you can cap before an enemy gets there?

In the end, scoreboards do not really matter. Go out and cap a camp. Go out and grab a group or two and see how long you can cap and keep a camp against overwhelming odds. Join a zerg train and hit a tower or keep. Go out and have fun and leave the X server is better to the trolls.

I honestly had a lot of fun last night running with FIST in YB BL and zerging around once or twice and capping camps. Then going back to the northern camp and seeing how long we could hold it.

We had the outmanned buff, but we held our own for a good 15-30 minutes with a 10 man team. Are we superior to YB? Nope. We eventually lost. It happens to the best of us.

Mag claims that DB is inferior in skills and rely on numbers.

Where the hell did such a remark come from? I mean Yes DB has a superior count during SEA times but doesn’t mag have superior numbers during NA? inferior in skills? where does that apply? Whoever has the bigger numbers (by a decent margin) will be offensive while the other is defensive.

It stems from (A) talkin’ junk for the hell of it and (B) people like to make up excuses for why their name isn’t at the top of the list, the same way others needlessly pound their chests when it is.

Most of it’s (A) but there’s also a little (B).

Coming from Mags, this doesn’t seem right. You guys are the PvF champs.

And leave forums aside, you are making your server look bad in the game by not utilizing your superior NA presence.

I say it again, if Yak’s had your NA presence, they’d have given us run for our money in this tier.

If you steal from a thief, you’re still a thief.

Also, I feel for some reason Yak’s hasn’t been as numerous these past two weeks as they were in our bouts with SoS. I’m entirely unsure why, but it may just be a skewed perception since NA wasn’t exactly SoS’s strength either.

It’s difficult for me to describe in words how it works, but for some reason FT doesn’t work like every other ability in the game. *Edited out a bit which was conflicting with what nakoda says below, which is correct. I don’t want to be confusing.

Basically, when an enemy runs by you, you have to move your camera much quicker to keep hitting them than you do with other weapons. Make sure the enemy is somewhere around the center of your screen, and you’ll have a much higher hit rate.

A well earned victory by Yaks Bend. Yaks Bend is the only server in the tier to take stonemist during DB prime time. Therefore, this makes Yaks Bend the best server in the tier at taking SM from DB during SEA prime time.

That is the undeniable truth. Great job, guys!

Fighting against a Mesmer takes some time to get used to what’s going on, and thus the class can be punishing to newer players without doing anything special. A Ranger’s pet and a flurry of arrows, people have seen before and understand if they’ve played any sort of MMO. A cloud of purple butterflies which turns into 3 enemies that look exactly the same, which all run at you and explode, that takes seeing it a few times to understand what’s happening.

I do, however, think Blurred Frenzy with sword spec is out of line. That’s a lot of invulnerability + damage on a short cooldown. That’s just a feeling though, I haven’t really sat down to establish some numbers to back that claim up yet.

Confusion just needs to be changed to return a % of potential damage done by the afflicted target instead of a flat damage per skill. It (and Retaliation) are needlessly punishing to certain classes, where if that damage curve were smoothed out some it would be much more fun for the entire player base.

It would probably need some duration and application tweaks after such a change were made, but I think it would help significantly.

Would like to see Retaliation return a % of damage done. So an attack for 1,000 against an enemy with retal would do say 250 damage in return, while a 10,000 attack would return 2,500. Just using 25% as an example, I have no idea what % would actually be balanced.

Confusion could be worked the same way, except it needs to work on heals and have a higher % return than Retaliation.

Then why attempt to defend yourself in saying that you did not consult the entire server?

Anyway mass recruiting whether one person does it or it’s agreed on by the WvW populace throws any attempts to appear proud and unified down the drain.

I contend it supports and emphasizes our unification and pride. We like our server and the people on it. We want others to share our community and our success, if they’re willing. We want the work of our diligent SEA community to be rewarded. We want to move to T2, get crushed, learn from it, and do it again. We want to get better, and we want other like-minded people to join us as we do.

Some may choose to see that as an awful sentiment. Why would anyone ever think about moving forward, or progressing? Why can’t we just be happy with what we’ve got, and where we are? I personally choose not to see things that way.

This thread has spiraled into the abyss many pages ago, but still entertaining to read.

Dragonbrand’s Asian Crew has stuck with us while we stuck with them all the way down to the lower tiers before rising back up (all of which was during free transfers). They have had many offers to transfer but they stay.

My guess is, Dragon’s are a big part of Asian culture and our name is better than yours. End of Story, I solved the puzzle and divided by zero at the same time.

The World will now end!

so i’ll do a TL:DR version. TG & BP both yield huge numbers, they raid for set times then rest. That’s your problem, not numbers. When they are in DB, they have a huge group 50+. You want those numbers on during Prime time? Yell at them to stay on longer then an hour.

This was around 7ish? to roughly 10:30(I logged off at 10:30), I personally did not see any DB with outmanned, and watched as you guys wiped Yaks at WK, until they took it a bit later.

If you are getting outmanned during NA Prime Time, don’t blame it on numbers, but the guilds that only come in for a bit at a time, their so called, ‘Raid Times’. That’s DB’s NA problem, not numbers, but time spent WvWing. I’ve seen DB fill EB & DB BL up to the max easily, and still be attacking another BL. Then on the flip side during NA Prime time, I see your numbers vanish for a bit, because ‘raid time’ is over.

How is it not numbers if we’re getting outmanned? That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Whether or not it’s from guilds moving in or out, or pugs moving in or out, or people doing the JP’s, the outmanned buff says one thing … you don’t have enough people!

Also, it’s not like the guild raid time factor you guys are talking about is in any way a fact. It’s a nice theory, but it doesn’t mean it’s true. So far, I’m thinking you guys are just fond of making stuff up to suit your needs instead of looking at things objectively.

I still don’t understand why DB wants to recruit more NA.

Your NA population is (gasp) about as large as Maguuma’s, possibly larger at some times. Last night, we took your entire borderland with 30 people. You had 30 people, too. We had some good fights, but ultimately kept you contained to one or two towers for an hour or two.

All of a sudden, out of nowhere, 60+ come and take back their garrison. You get the west keep back, and then we hold down the east keep for about an hour. Just as suddenly as the 60+ came, they were gone, so our 30 fought your 30, won a bunch, and took your borderland again.

An hour later, this same process happens again, except this time you come back with even more. If you guys would just spread out your play to have 40 people in a borderland all the time, instead of 20 for awhile, then 60+ for an hour, you would be doing much better.

Plus, ignoring the fact that your NA presence is fine (probably stronger than Yak’s NA presence, as far as population goes), if you had even more NA, you would destabilize a relatively even fight, and jump up and down from T2 every week, like FA did for awhile, or like Maguuma did with T3/T4 for the past few months.

Tl;dr: your NA population is fine, just utilize it better.

That’s why the vast majority of company representatives / developers don’t say anything in the first place. You can’t say anything about “what” is going to happen because you don’t know yet. If you leak even the smallest bit you’re suddenly pigeon holed, and if you change your mind or scrap the idea later it becomes a firestorm.

Saying things like, “we’re aware this situation and looking into it” are all I need to hear, and I understand that’s really all they can say.

Everyone has to do this.

Unless you mean you want 20 abilities per weapon AND weapon swap. Because that sounds reasonably balanced.

I think your problem (Dragonbrand NA) really has nothing to do with coverage or time zones. You could very easily be stomping us if you didn’t rely on two things so heavily:

One, your night/morning/day/oceanic/asian/whatever crew. It’s very obvious to me that you guys don’t seem to really care about holding your stuff before your primetime ends, because you’re used to waking up/getting back from work/school and it all being fully upgraded again. That’s a bad habit, I think, because you give up around midnight EST, which gives most servers a good 6 hours of free stuff before NNK logs on.

I don’t think we’re disinterested or reliant on our SEA players at all. We just play when we can play. I personally have to be at work at 8 AM EDT, so I log off around midnight, if not earlier. From my experience, we’ve always had a significant drop in numbers around 11pm – midnight eastern, so I’ve always assumed our NA population is somewhat skewed toward the east coasters.

Two, raid times. You guys have huge artificial holes in your coverage. There will be times, every day, that I will see gigantic zergs from the same guild on a map, have some awesome fights for an hour or two, then see less than 10 people on your borderlands for another hour or two, until the next guild zerg logs on. This leads to a few problems, namely that we can just weather the storm for an hour and take all your stuff again after, and that your guild groups aren’t necessarily extremely experienced in WvW, since it’s clear that they only really do it during these “raid times.” I don’t know of many guilds on Maguuma that have raid times. My guild and the ones I run with are in WvW pretty much all of the time, and guild groups don’t even make up 1/5th of the population of Maguuma, honestly.

There’s such a stark contrast between your population during these raid times and your lull periods that it’s almost comical. If you would ditch the events and just spread out your play all day, you’d probably fare much, much better.

I don’t think most servers realize how under populated our server really is (outside of Eternal)… we just communicate and move around a lot. So it seems like we’re everywhere, but we’re not.

I didn’t read all the replies as I’m short on time, but could you post a picture of 3 warriors doing 100B on you? Can you post a picture of 3 Thieves backstabbing you at the same time? Heck, you can even post a picture of 3 Necro’s dropping a well and dagger auto chain on you.

Or how about a picture where an Engineer keeps you locked in place while a Warrior and a Thief beat your face in?

Teamwork can be quite impressive.
