Here is my mobo according to CPU-Z:
Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer INC.
Model: M4A77TD, Rev X.0x
According to the ASUS website I have a PCI-E 2.0 slot. I feel like it was the PCI-E 1.0 thing that I thought was the problem, but the website clearly states that I have a PCI-E 2.0 slot.
The only other thing I can think of was the power plugs. According one website my current graphics card requires this: “Two (2) 6-pin PCI Express power connectors”
I remember that my stock graphics card didn’t need those two 6-pin power connectors, and I had to search around and find those little things that I didn’t know existed to plug into the GTX 560 Ti. Could there be an issue with power connectors that might create incompatibility?
Here is my motherboard:
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M4A77TD/specifications/
And here is the computer I bought back in the yonder times:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227237
It’s pretty much stock except I’ve upgraded the RAM to 8GB and it has the GTX 560 Ti graphics card replacing the old one.
Am I completely incorrect in thinking I can’t use a new or near-new graphics card on my PC? :o I’m thinking now that I may have shorted myself and gotten a weaker graphics card than I needed to. O.o

Thanks for all the replies! Some stuff is a bit over my head but most of it makes sense.
The problem I’ve come to on my current PC is that newer graphics cards aren’t compatible with my motherboard.
I currently have this GeForce GTX 560 Ti:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CI7FWJM/
I don’t remember what the problem was, but I remember when I was shopping for a graphics card it turned out that this GTX 560 Ti is one of the best graphics cards I could get that was still compatible with my motherboard. Pretty much everything newer than this GTX 560 Ti is incompatible with my PC for some reason I can’t remember. Something about the PCI-E slots I believe.
That’s my main concern. I feel like my PC is still going strong but I can’t upgrade the graphics card any further because of compatibility issues so I’ve basically hit a brick wall.
Are there any new PCI-E slots in development or other new upcoming motherboard advancements that I should wait for so I can get a PC that I can upgrade for a few years without hitting a brick wall?
I’ll research the dual graphics card stuff and see what I can find out about the current Haswell processors so I can understand what you all were talking about on that front.
Hi!
In the wake of the release of GW2 Season 2, I’m wanting to start building a PC. With the dust storms and all the beauty of Dry Top my old PC is finally starting to show it’s age having ugly FPS fallouts whenever a duststorm kicks up.
What I’m looking for is a motherboard/processor combo that will be durable and resilient so that I can upgrade components over time and keep the motherboard around.
Does anyone know of any brands of motherboards that are durable and reliable? And what kinds of ports should I look for to find a motherboard that would be relevant for up to 5 years? (My current PC is about 4 years old and has worked brilliantly with new games up until recently with only gradual upgrades to RAM and graphics cards) I like having a solid foundation that I can build on top of over time as money and need arise.
Thanks for any advice you have to offer!!

I’d like to mention that there were ghosts roaming Ascalon BEFORE Foefire. So I’m sure there is a way to lift the curse without breaking the original personal storyline progression. Regardless of whether or not the curse is lifted, I’m sure spiteful ghosts will still remain and could be interacted with in the context of the personal storyline.
It’s interesting that there were human ghosts in GW1 and I don’t recall seeing ghosts of anything else really, at least not in large part. It could be the six gods and their relationship with humans are to blame?
“Ascalon, I free you from this curse!”
SAY WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTT!?!?!?!?!
No more intense dialogue has ever been uttered in Guild Wars 2!
RESSURECTION!
It seems like the character in it’s entirety is a bug. It runs around talking about killing pinesoul when no pinesoul are nearby and runs back and forth. If this is an incomplete event trigger I feel it should be removed until the event is implemented.
Lysander the Younger is such a mystery that he’s not on the GW2 wiki and google only finds this lone thread confirming his existence.
Alright well I checked my NVidea settings and didn’t find any options like that for switching primary monitors for a specific program. Also this wouldn’t help me anyway for times when I want to run another game or another instance of GW2 at the same time.
I tried the Win + Shift + Right key combo and it will move the client image over to monitor 2 for fullscreen mode if I set the correct resolution, but it traps my mouse in monitor 1 still. And as soon as I click my mouse anywhere or hit alt-tab or anything like that it just minimizes the game completely and the image is back on monitor 1 when I re-maximize.
(Beforehand I tried the key shortcut without adjusting resolution and my monitors freaked out and I had to Alt + Ctrl + Del and log off to get my monitors to stop flashing >.<)
It seems those are valuable keyboard shortcuts that I’ll remember for future use, but it doesn’t seem to help with the current dilemma. :*(
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line
Try using the -repair command line arguement. Visit the link to the wiki to see how to use it in your shortcut to GW2. If -repair doesn’t work look through that list and see if there are any other commands that might fix whatever broke.
So I finally found my Windows Key and tried this out. It turns out the Windows Key functions won’t work with Fullscreen or Windows Fullscreen!
It won’t even let me maximize on my second monitor! If I move the game to monitor 2 and then hit maximize, it relocates the game to monitor 1! This is totally different from how any other window works.
I’ve sent in support tickets and emailed a tech support person and made this post but there’s still no acknowledgement from any ANet staff of why this functionality was taken OUT of the game and/or what I can do to work around it.
Why was a functionality that was present even before launch taken out!?!
StinVec: I thought that might work but when you go to windowed mode and move it to the second monitor and then switch back to fullscreen windowed mode it just moves the game back to my primary monitor.
Saucermote: I’ll have to try that out! First I’ve gotta find my Windows Key >.< My keyboard currently has a dummy key covering the windows key so I don’t accidentally hit it while trying to hit Ctrl >.< Hopefully that method works!
I don’t WANT Guild Wars 2 on my primary monitor though. Sometimes I want it on my secondary when I’m doing something else on my primary.
Why was this option removed!?! Can a dev please explain?
I’m and TIRED of destroying Princess Miya Wigs. It’s ridiculous! Can the devs ad an option to auto-destroy spam drops like the Wig? I’ve deleted more wigs than I can count and it’s just so stupid that I keep getting them when if I REALLY wanted one I could buy one on the market for 3 copper.
There are ENOUGH Miya Wigs in the game inventory. Please remove them from the drop list!
Hello!
I’ve got a problem and I don’t understand why it should be happening in the first place. I have two monitors and Guild Wars 2 is going up on the wrong one.
There used to be an in-game option where you could choose your video output device, but now it’s gone!
Where did it go!?! And why? I don’t know why a feature was REMOVED from the game, but it’s quite annoying…
Sorry maybe I’m missing something since the screenshots are way too small and difficult to read, but it seems that two guilds got really snarky for NO REASON just because someone showed up nearby them in WvW.
I don’t see how you can get mad at someone for being there in WvW and voicing their reaction to what they’re seeing.
How many people have shown up to your matches and called it stupid before this staff member? I bet a lot have. What did you do when the other people did? You let it pass and got over it.
Maybe the staffer shouldn’t have been so personal about it, but it’s not like his opinion about your unsupported match-ups is invalid. Just roll with the punches and deal with the inevitable downsides of playing an unsupported game mode.
I think if you’re having trouble with light/medium class armored characters you should look for some tips on how to play that specific class. I do quite well with my thief, and eles are pretty strong mother-kittens; you just gotta know how to use them correctly. I still need to learn a better way to play mesmers in PvE.
I’d recommend googling for builds or asking for advice on the class specific forums here.
There is NO other reliable way to level up anymore. Unless ANet fixes the problems with mid-level zones being completely empty of players you pretty much have no other reliable source of event exp.
Right now zones have hardly any events pop up unless there are a lot of people around. They need to either fix the way events spawn so that you can still do events when hardly anyone is around, or they need to do something else to liven up mid-level zones so people can play them to level up.
This is a big problem for me because I need to level up some alts and it’s such a tedious task these days. :S
The hill right north of the ogre camp in WvW IS a total death trap.
This is just a pathing issue though. You SHOULDN’T be dying from walking down stairs or walking down a hill, so you just need to report those issues as bugs and they’ll get around to fixing them.
It’d kitten up personal story to no end. You’d pop into a random kitten storyline not knowing what the hell was just happening before. Your choices you make at the beginning wouldn’t even work. And it’s better for ANet for you to just restart a new character or quit the game entirely after you’ve already paid them your money.
I don’t think we should eliminate slow-down in combat for reasons already given, but I would like to see a little better AI for determining when you’re finally out of combat.
The Fight Club is only in WvW because that’s the easiest place for it to happen. They need to just go ahead and implement this feature in a dedicated area or with a dedicated dual request system. It’s cool to think of a fight club going on inside of the windmill, but it’s kind of inappropriate to make people go into WvW for the Fight Club after support is implemented.
All that being said, I WOULD like to see a duel request or fighting area system implemented.
I’ve vetted this idea to some people in in-game chat. I’m still in favor of this idea, but it was discussed that the main problem with leveling is the emptiness of the mid-level zones. If ANet doesn’t do something like what I suggest, it needs to do something to compensate for empty mid-level zones.
Right now it’s obvious to see that few players = few events in a zone. If they could make dynamic event triggering less dependent on the quantity of players present and more dependent on the proximity of players present, it could make things a lot more fun for people like me who wish they could level more “naturally” rather than via paying to level with crafting or things like that.
I would just like to suggest implementing a system that lets you level up alt characters by playing on your main character once it has reached level 80.
Leveling up alts is becoming increasingly difficult as more and more players get level 80 characters and the lower level zones get abandoned. When I search for quick level up tips online people always suggest going to Kessex Hills or Harathi Hinterlands because they say there are always events happening there. But there aren’t anymore! Because no one is there! Few players means few events triggering!
I love the world of Tyria, and wish I could just run around exploring it all the time with my different alt chars. But there is this pressure to focus my attention on things that will gain me the fastest amount of experience, rather than things that are the most fun.
I’ve done the work of getting one character to level 80, and I’ve unlocked all of my skills. Now I’m getting extra skill points that I will probably never use because I’m not that into crafting, and gaining experience that is going completely to waste.
If I could choose to give my experience to one of my alt characters, I could level them up and empower them to gain more access to a more diverse variety of zones where I could have some fun encounters I’ve yet to experience.
Maybe people think this would be some kind of imbalance or something. I don’t, but if that’s the determination maybe you could make the max level you can level up an alt to with shared exp somewhere below 80. Like level 65 or 70. That way you could level your alts up to that point, but then you’d have to play each one to level them up the rest of the way.
I’m just completely disappointed with the emptiness of most of the zones in Tyria. When the game was releasing you were talking about how scaled leveling would keep the whole world fun and challenging and players would be encouraged to return to lower level zones. That’s totally what I would do if I didn’t feel the pressure to grind up my alts! But that’s not what the majority of players are doing. There is almost never more than 1 or 2 other people in the zones I’m going into on my alts to try and level and do personal story.
I can’t level up my alts because trying to level in Guild Wars 2 is a complete chore when you’re playing PvE alone. It’s only full of dynamic event goodness when lots of people are in the zones with you.
Please, ANet. Please consider implementing a system where altaholics like me can get all their characters to a point where they can start having fun with other players and exploring more zones in the land of Tyria.
I hope you’ll seriously consider this suggestion.
Have a nice day and thanks for your time.

Forum search won’t work so I can’t filter out the Dragonbrand guilds. >.<
Hello!
I’m Mo Mo! Not to be confused with Momo or Moo Moo or any allusions to Japanese culture or horribly stupid kitten conventions! O.o I’m looking for a laidback guild that does WvW on the Dragonbrand server. I like organization, but I’m not into the whole military shoutfest attitude that some people take on TS. I don’t need to be micromanaged… Even a guild with just a few players that like to go around doing small ops would be nice.
Does anyone know a website that regularly updates a map for Orichalcum in the Sea of Sorrows server?
I’ve searched all over and even found a gw2guru thread listing links to maps for various servers but they didn’t have one for Sea of Sorrows.
Anyone know of one? I’m trying to figure out ways to make money and people say this is a way to make some decent daily cash…
Oh lol I thought it already WAS every 7 days… Wow now I know why so many ppl have been complaining about WvW transferring!
