Does this happen all the time to you? Is it people from specific guilds or all kind of people? (Based on what tags you’re seeing on the people when you’re killing them.) What server are these people on?

You might be able to contact someone from their guild or server community and complain. See if their own community might reign them in.

I think the great thing about ArenaNet games is that you can’t lose by just trying the game out again since it’s no monthly fee. Log in, run around, ask some questions in Lion’s Arch, do a few things, decide whether or not to keep playing.

The only thing you have to lose is however many minutes you took to decide if you like the game again.

Yes please on templates like in GW1. I’d like to at least see this for traits. I have to retrait a lot when I switch from one type of gameplay to another and it’d be nice to not have to look through screenshots I’ve taken to remember what the heck I had been running before.

Heal/Utilities/Elite templates being included in the template would be cool but not so necessary. I switch utilities constantly in WvW between running somewhere and making it happen when I get there. The utility templates wouldn’t do much for me personally.

There also used to be a lot less gold in the market. You can make 1 gold quite quickly in this game now even if you’re a newbie. 1g isn’t that big of a deal anymore.

My newbie friend had about 10 gold in their first couple weeks of playing just from going around doing random stuff they came across. And she was around level 20 at that point so she has plenty of time to accumulate more gold as she gets into the higher level areas and starts getting better drops and doing more profitable activities.

And how is your hypothetical newbie doing with skillpoints? You know, the things that go to buying actual… skills… along with traits? And, which have been overall reduced since the beginning of the game?

If this newbie is swimming in skill points, give me his secret.

I dislike the gold cost but can live with it… as a leveled veteran. The skill point cost, on the other hand, that is both often forgotten in these discussions and much harder to meet than the gold.

Also, please let us know how this newbie is liking the idea of buying traits/obtaining through tasks once they’ve spent their gold on armor/runes/sigils/accessories and have rolled another alt or 2 and need to do it all over for them.

We’ll wait.

My actual newbie friend, unlike the hypothetical newbie you’re all advocating for, doesn’t care about any of that stuff yet. Because she is a newbie.

The trait unlocks annoy VETERANS. WE the VETERANS want a little bit of change in how the traits are unlocked for OUR alts.

The new unlocks system doesn’t affect newbies because they are TOO NEW. They’ve got plenty of other stuff to learn about the game. And in the case of my friend, the leveling system seems to be helping her learn about the game in paced increments without overwhelming her.

This is not about newbies. It’s about veterans. Please keep the arguments about how the trait system affects veterans. There are plenty of valid arguments about how the trait system inconveniences veterans.

The thread is 8 months old? Do you know many traits could’ve been unlocked in the time it’s taken to write all these posts? :P :P

You can’t call minimal grind gamebreaking. Is this your all’s first MMO? It’s so easy and fast to level characters.

You’re missing the point that this is a serious impediment to the new player experience. Just because I started MUDding over 20 years ago and am inclined to level to 80 regardless of what traits I have doesn’t mean that everyone else is going to be the same. The goal of the trait system was ostensibly to make the new player experience more engaging, and it has done the exact opposite.

Well I have a friend playing GW2 who has never played a computer game before and she’s doing quite well. I thought I would have to hold her hand through the game but she keeps leveling up and making progress without me around.

She seems to be learning the game quite well. The only thing she’s bad at is jumping puzzles :P She is an extreme noob and she’s still succeeding so the leveling system must be doing something right.

Also I haven’t ignored the trait unlock requirements. That’s the one thing that I do feel could change. It’s annoying, but not gamebreaking. Especially since you can unlock them for money. And given the drops you get at level 80 and how much they sell for on the TP you can make that goal in a relatively short amount of time.

I’d prefer to unlock traits instead of buy them, so I definitely would love a change in the specifics of how they are unlocked. I’d love them to be challenging but waiting around for a specific event in Orr is definitely problematic.

I think the story is interesting. I wish I was here to play the previous season of living story, but I hear they’re gonna re-release them at some point. Hopefully it won’t cost too many gems to unlock them.

If you weren’t too impressed by what you left the game with, then go on youtube and watch some of the beginning of the living story season and see if it interests you.

If the youtube videos interest you, go for it. If not, just play the stuff that’s going on right now for the rewards it gives you.

Meanwhile I’ll keep it real with a bottle of Jim Beam. Simple label, nice price, classic flavor.

Guild Wars 2 has a great price and it’s a lot of bang for your buck. And like Jim Beam, they care about the quality without acting too arrogant.

Well there is entry level build experimentation in Heart of the Mists. As far as build experimentation otherwise I think that’s something for more established players. A more established player should have enough cash to buy a few traits if they don’t want to do the unlock award.

There is definitely a problem with the specific requirements of some traits. Like someone mentioned before, the traits that require you to defeat particular bosses in Orr can be annoying if you aren’t there when the right events are running.

And as far as ANet not giving us day-to-day details. If you think about it it’d really just bring more upset back-seat-driving from the community.

If they’re working on a solution, it means they are brainstorming alternatives and testing them out. Some of the alternatives they test out they will discover to be flawed and decide not to implement. It’s better to find the flaws in private than to lay it all out for the community to pick apart.

2 years ago I remember this game to be challenging, unique and breathtaking, but many of the old devs are no longer working in ANet, their ideas and spirit they’ve put into the game are gone long ago – I’m talking about those ideas which made me buy and support this game. For me it was solid gameplay with dark, fascinating and mature story.

Saying the storyline in GW2 is “dark” gave your troll away. Other than that it’s pretty solid.

Pretty fun read. For those who don’t realize: All the things the OP said they loved and wanted most in the game are things never implemented and actually explicitly confirmed as not existing in the game at launch, and clearly stated as being non-priorities in future development with absolutely no guarantee that they ever WOULD be implemented.

If you’re not trolling, lol you’ve been ignoring the signs. This game IS and never WAS the game for you. Just quit and find another game. I hear Aion is free to play now.

You can’t call minimal grind gamebreaking. Is this your all’s first MMO? It’s so easy and fast to level characters.

If you’re complaining about it affecting gameplay, look at how you would play the game normally going from zone to zone gradually increasing levels.

If you played the game “normally” instead of speed leveling your alts in EotM and the such you’d have a lot of the traits done naturally. You’d also have to spend more time on each character though.

EotM is the blessing from ANet for leveling alts. Trait unlocks is the price you pay for the convenience.

Some of the trait unlocks could be more universal and less specific, but it’s not “gamebreaking” suggesting you do a little something to earn a little something.

You have the option of saving the location for future logins or just allowing the log-in once, say if you’re just visiting a friends house.

If your armor is breaking more on a particular character, like the person above said it must be that you’re dying more. Most likely the difference is how well you’re playing those classes that just happen to be sylvari or asuran, but it could also be the difficulty of the areas where your sylvari and asuran characters happen to be playing in frequently.

The copper-fed salvager would be fine for basic drops that you’re not desiring more valuable components from, but the silver fed is a nice option for high level drops.

I didn’t even know about the silver-fed salvager myself, but now I’ll be looking out for it to grab one possibly!

Generally, if the character is usable in game I would think it should be usable for character names, but I’m just now wondering if they disabled the ì letter in name creation because it might easily confused with other i letters and that could create an issue for reporting players for misconduct. I’ve always thought that was a big factor in why you couldn’t have a Japanese or Chinese or Korean name in GW1 if you didn’t have a client from that region. Because people not familiar with it would have a hard time reporting a person and they’d always have to manage to get a screenshot of the persons name and submit that since they wouldn’t be able to type it out.

Champ bags-when do the dice roll?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mo Mo.1947

Mo Mo.1947

Just because you’re studying the RNG? :P

You are talking about the bags that stack, right?

If so the loot is rolled when you open the bag/chest. This is evident because if you get a loot bag on a non-level 80 and transfer it to a level 80 character, your drops are better when you open it on the level 80 character.

If you’re talking about drops in general, like getting a precursor or an exotic drop, I’d guess the contents of a loot pile you pick up from an enemy is rolled when you pick it up. If it was rolled the instant the enemy died it would cause a sudden processing spike for their servers if the game rolled loot all at once for every single player who participated in killing a world boss. It’d be a lot easier on their servers to simply calculate IF a player gets a drop then roll for the contents of the drop later when the player picks the loot up.

OR it could be combination of events that calculate loot. Perhaps precursor drops are decided when a monster dies, while the general contents of loot is decided upon pickup. You do see that different types of loot lays on the ground. sometimes it’s a bag and other times it’s a chest. The drop calculation could happen partially at every point in the looting process you mentioned.

I don’t recall saying you were doing something worth reporting. And no I didn’t read 70 pages and don’t expect anyone to. And no I haven’t read your entire GW2 forum life story. But I did read a few of your post that you’ve been posting recently.

I’m personally recommending my friends stay away from the game in its current state. You should also know that if you create a new character, you’ll have to unlock all the traits, too.

Normally I’d be saving up for the sales in GW2 right now, but the last of my November entertainment money went to Steam. Feel free to drop me a message if you want my Steam name to add me there and keep in touch.

You’re talking about telling people to not play the game and that you’re moving your money to another game and people should hang out with you there instead of in-game.

And you’re doing it in the same entitled voice that I’m seeing all over the forums from people who complain unconstructively, cry foul-play and injustice at everything that doesn’t work 100% perfectly, and make outrageous demands thinking that they should get whatever they want because they spent some money on the game. (You could spend a few hundred $ USD on the game and you still haven’t paid for even an hours worth of work by the ANet staff.)

I don’t care what you’ve said or done in the past, because in the present you’re just another bag of complaints doing the exact opposite of what you should do if you want something to be done about the problems you perceive.

I offered a suggestion for how to change traits. And I suggest you share your own alternative solutions in this thread instead of telling everyone you’re giving up on playing the game.

This would be fine if our feedback really mattered. As the trait system nears the one-year mark, however, I am less and less convinced that they’re interested in any of our ideas here. I am actually telling my friends/family that I do not want any gem cards for the holidays this year.

You’ve already stated you’ve given up on this game. Why not give up on the forum? ANet can’t appease everyone’s particular desires. Your opinion doesn’t always line up with others when it comes to what people want and what you want changed.

Becoming unshakably disgruntled at the game and trying to rally everyone to Team Hate-ANet and suggesting everyone quit and join you on steam is not a productive way to get what you want.

I’m a wvw player, I don’t like PvE that much that all I do is running around exploring. Just pay up is easier said than done as it’s pretty costly – gearing new characters is anyway.

I think this is an example of the main issue which is that trait unlock requirements are more oddly specific than diversely generic.

People say you are lazy if you don’t do the trait requirements but the reality is you can be a super active player and never unlock traits if the unlock requirements just aren’t what you ever do.

I’m also a primarily WvW player and most of my alts I’ve created for the sake of diversifying my roles in WvW. If I have to pay to unlock traits it’s basically like I’m being fined for not playing PvE on every character.

The game is supposed to be play the way you want to play. I don’t want to play PvE on most of my characters. I have only a few specific characters who exist for PvE.

I like the idea of unlocking traits BUT the unlock requirements need to be more broad or generic so people can unlock them without playing parts of the game they don’t want to play.

IDEA: Traits are made to enhance your skillset. Why not unlock traits similar to the way you used to unlock weapon skills? The more you do a certain type of thing, the closer you get to unlocking a trait.

Example: Necro: Unlock “Training of the Master” trait (which boosts minion damage) after slaying 150 foes with summoned minions.

I would rather pay them 60€ for a proper expansion than getting this for free.

They’ve been expanding the game almost monthly. Why do you need a big dropship dump of an expansion all at once just because it’s how people have done it before? The multiple expansions over a period of time are more digestable.

What would a “legit expansion” even look like? Something like all the expansions they’ve made so far except in a big lump that you have to wait a long time for?

Why wait a long time for new stuff when you can get new stuff in waves all year long?

"Nearest Enemy" Is Literally Nearest (+more)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mo Mo.1947

Mo Mo.1947

Seeing as the meaning of “nearest enemy” is quite straight-forward I have expected from the start that selecting the “nearest enemy” meant exactly and literally the nearest enemy. As such I’m glad that’s exactly what it does.

For enemies in front of you you have your mouse to click with and also the option that promotes enemies to targets when you hit them.

But perhaps to allow both possibilities they could add an extra “Nearest Foreward Enemy” hotkey function to allow the selection of near enemies for projectile and melee targeting.

I would also like an option to not de-select my target when using a ground-target skill. Very annoying.

I think it’s a bug if that’s what is happening to you. My client does not deselect a target if I ground target another enemy. I even unchecked the “Promote Skill Target” option in the settings to see if this was your problem but with ALL the targeting support options all turned off I don’t have the problem you describe.

when there exists even a whole playable race, that is being named after a japanese pop culture referance name – namely the ASURA

There’s a difference between borrowing words and concepts from various world cultures and languages and rebranding tropes and/or stereotypes with no original creativity and hardly any deviation.

For example the Norn borrow from multiple real-world cultural concepts without explicitly being any one of them. Conversely, Kaineng City in GW1:Factions was just one big shanty town rip-off.

GW1:Factions was such a joke being the introduction into the East Asian game market. “Hey East Asia, ya’ll got shanty-towns and katanas, amirite? So does Guild Wars! Buy it!”

What if Blade and Soul’s North American release coincided with the release of a cowboy themed expansion called ‘Blade N Soul: Yeehaw!’? O.o

There’s even some thread around here detailing the history of Divinity’s Reach previously having Canthan and Elonan districts before NCSoft stopped in and pointed out that having Segregation City as the human hub center was a bit problematic.

Point being, your race’s backstory is less culturally inspired and more a cultural rip-off.

Your lore about the Nierr being “isolated from the whole word” already has too much crossover with the Tengu backstory. Which is itself a total stereotypical regurgitation of feudal Japan tropes.

If they ever plan to release Tengu as a playable race the delay is probably in part because they’re gonna have to do a lot of work on the lore to make it so Tengu aren’t just a racist stereotype of Japanese people and the “generic Asian culture” stereotype.

Blegh @ exotifying other human cultures.

Sometimes ANet introduces ideas or concepts into the game, then decides for one reason or the other that they aren’t worth developing further.

What’s next? Delete all Tengu from the maps because they probably aren’t planning to release playable tengu anytime soon? (Though they ARE release more Canthan themed gem store items recently… hmmz … [/ot] )

Just because they don’t develop an idea doesn’t mean that idea should be deleted completely…..
