Well as a sylvari I take offense at your notion that the Pale Tree would ever fall to the dragons’ corruption. :P

The sylvari turning to Mordremoth were the Soundless (who ignored/rejected The Dream) and it looks like the Nightmare Court will choose to follow Mordremoth now according to the trailers.

Since Caladbolg and all sylvari who participate in the Dream are protected from Mordremoth’s influence by the Pale Tree, the only way Mordremoth could gain the influence you speak of is if the Pale Tree’s spirit were to die completely.

What part of not “optional” do people not get from fractal 50. 70 AR is not OPTIONAL.

Fractals are a kind of dungeon run. Dungeons are like the very definition of grinding. You run them over and over.

I’ve done dungeons maybe like 5-10 times in the history of the game release and I’m doing fine playing all the non-grind content with my exotic non-ascended gear.

You say 70 AR is not optional. But fractals level 50 is very optional, lol.

If you play dungeons or fractals you are CHOOSING to grind. You can always choose to play something non-grindy.

Thus: Grind not required.

Certain items like bunny ears and other items like the town clothes skins do not show up in your wardrobe, even as unlocked icons, until you unlock them.

The gem store scarf, for example, also does not show up in your wardrobe until you unlock it.

We’ll have to wait until easter time but they’ll probably come back at some point.

No one has to grind in this game. And no one NEEDS ascended gear.

But if you WANT to grind, there are plenty of grind opportunities that don’t take away playability from people who don’t.

No grind necessary, but plenty of grind if you want it!

Questions about Pricing and Payment [merged]

ANet has to pay the NCSoft overlords who like to use GW2’s success to fund their horrible fail-games, so they might not have as much money to spend on the game as you think.

Also considering how much it costs to buy just one outfit from the gem store, almost $10, it’d be perfectly reasonable if they put the expansion at $60. $60 for 7 outfits, or $60 for an entire expansion. :P But I’m feeling $40-$45 will be the price range.

WvW Updates - I Is Disappoint

Asking for a new map in WvW is like asking for a bandaid when you’ve got the flu.

A new map will hopefully mix things up, but only if it cures the real problem with WvW. WvW gets boring because the meta gets stagnant. People fall into set tactics and expectations of their enemies, and in tier 1 you face off vs. the same unsurprising servers each week.

What the new map needs to do is keep the meta in a constant state of flux so people don’t stagnate and instead keep trying different approaches to dominating the week.

Well I’m not sure how much they need to tweak LS1 to make it ready for their new replayable system.

I’m sure it’s a lot of work, but given that they’ll be needing money to fund all this new stuff they’re making it would be helpful for them if they could have a team finish it up and release it before the expansion.

I for one missed a lot of the LS1 stuff so I’m still kind of like, “who are all these weirdos” when I do my LS2.

Releasing LS1 would give a good amount of story continuity and give players an opportunity to catch up on the story thus-far before jumping into the HoT release.

Going based on the way they ran GW1, and that the specializations are a more balance-able answer to secondary professions, I have no reason to expect that you can’t change your specialization.

Also going off of how ANet has done this stuff in the past, with secondary professions and attributes in GW1, and with traits in GW2: When they first release specializations, you will probably have to pay some gold-sink fee to “reset” your character to default and choose another specialization.

Then later, when everyone has gotten the hang of specializations and people get better at using the specializations effectively, they’ll open up specialization changing so you can do it anytime outside of combat. Which is how all the things I mentioned at the beginning for both GW1/GW2 eventually worked out.

Half a year after the demo is not “moving fast”, it’s very super kittening SLOW, especially considering it’s gonna be 3 years by then. And they’ve worked on it for so long now, they said. So, no, none of this mambo jumbo with dates makes any sense to me.

Why do you think there’s been a large dedicated crew working on HoT since the game’s release?

Did you not notice all the other content that has been released in this time since launch? I’m sure they’ve had a portion of the crew working on it for a while but a lot of the crew has been working on all the new stuff we’ve been getting nearly every month.

Since content is only released for a limited time I think many people easily forget how much content they’ve churned out. Hopefully they re-release Living Story Season 1 for replaying soon so people can more easily see everything ANet has been creating over the past couple years.

Can someone quote or give a timestamp for when it’s explicitly stated that there is only one new map?

When I watched the stream all I heard clearly was that at least one of the maps would have three tiers which would be like the “biomes” of a real rain-forest.

Also we don’t know how much this expansion will cost. If it’s only like $30 that’s like 3 months of being a dedicated gem-buyer. After 2.5 years of content for as little as $50-$60 if you got it on release, is it really so bad to pay $30-$40 more to keep the game alive?

And we haven’t been required to pay a monthly fee so they don’t have Blizzard megalithic wallets to put in a massive amount of slack-effort low-polygon content and new armor that looks like you’re wearing a bedsheet.

Heart of Thorns is a new GW2 Book that takes place around LS2 (and maybe some parts of LS1), although I like GW2 Books and have them all, I don’t want HoT to be a book!

Heart of Thorns, the dark tale of the dragons’ corruption where the main character, despite being sylvari, still manages to be blonde-haired and blue-eyed. Written by our very own Ree Soesbee who brought us her first tale of a violent and abusive Aryan who had a sorrowful time relating to and getting along with all the non-Aryans who surrounded him.

I think it was a good idea. ArenaNet is trying to get people interested in sPvP. And it worked for me! I started up some sPvP to get the breather and discovered it’s quite fun.

When the game first released and they didn’t have the current PvP armor system things were a bit overwhelming, but now it’s quite easy to figure out and fun to just get in there and play.

And it doesn’t seem to take too long to get the reward track either. I’ve just done a few matches at the end of my night the past couple nights and I’m making good progress quickly.

If you consider the timing of their releases, they usually put out new stuff once a month or twice a month, which I take as meaning their “preferred” donation is $10 a month in gem purchases, with them hoping that you’ll want at least one of their gem items each month.

Given that I’d say not playing the game at all for months and then paying only about 2 months worth of “preferred” donation to catch up on everything is a pretty good deal.

It’s also worth considering that not all of the storylines give the awesome rewards like the armor pieces or components for Mawdrey. If you’re just wanting those you can purchase SOME of the chapters and play through the chapters you missed alongside a friend who has them unlocked.

As far as I can tell the current LS missions all have instanced zones with the exception of a few intermediary steps between instances. Which is exactly how it worked in GW1.

In GW1 there were always quests that happened in the regular zones that took you to the mission areas. By the time we hit Nightfall, the missions all took place in zones that you could explore otherwise outside of the missions, just like how it is in the current GW2 living story.

I can see the merit in avoiding labels that people have strongly implanted emotional responses to, but the list seems a bit too extensive to the point that it seems to border on willfully ignoring discourse.

The word ‘entitled’ is a particularly strange word to avoid I think. Would someone being rude label the word “rude” as a slur just because they didn’t want to admit their behavior was a problem?

I can only see the word “entitled” being labeled as a slur by someone who was feeling they deserved something more than what they earned. If the Internet has deemed the word “entitled” a slur then I’m glad I avoid interacting with most netizens. :P

Other than the word “entitled” the list is a relatively sound collection of words to avoid in discourse. Many of them cause readers to shut the door to constructive communication.

GW2 Bandwidth Usage?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Mo Mo.1947

Mo Mo.1947

Hello,

My roommate is having some trouble with their wifi speed and I’m trying to figure how much of the connection I’m eating up when I do my normal stuff on my own PC.

Does anyone know how much download/upload bandwidth Guild Wars 2 uses in intensive settings such as world bosses or big WvW fights?

I’ve recently started dual boxing GW2 with a couple accounts, one key farming while the other does whatever is actually fun. And I also sometimes watch netflix at the same time.

I tried to use the speedtest website to see how much of my total bandwidth I’m using up (speedtest says the total is about 60Mbps) but when I tried running speedtest on my laptop while running two instances of GW2 and Netflix and VOIP on my PC it didn’t seem to affect my laptop’s speedtest at all. Every time I tested it it was around 57~60 Mbps.

I always thought at least Netflix used a lot of the internet connection but here speedtest is telling me it’s hardly significant at all?

I’m just trying to figure out if I should stop dual boxing so often so my roommate won’t have crummy internet or if it actually doesn’t make a big difference at all.

P.S. In case some misinformed ppl show up, “dual boxing” is quite allowed and okay and I’ve emailed support to confirm this for both GW1 and GW2. If the Trading Post guy on youtube can have 100 accounts trading and crafting at the same time then I can certainly have 2 accounts. :P

Hi!

I’ve just not gone into the Silverwastes to see what awaits me and I’ve been running around having fun.

I came across this deep cave (Drydock Grotto Waypoint) and of course my first instinct was to try and get to the bottom. Luckily after a couple fails I found myself in a pool of water at the bottom and was able to roam around.

There are Kits standing by one-way skritt tunnels to get you back to the top, and there is a Kit by every one of them that have a strange dialogue:

I can only attach one screenshot, so I’ll type out the first dialogue:

Kit: You’re so agile. Shame you gots burned down, but lemme help you stand up and iterate."

My character: Thanks for the help, but what’s with the strange phrasing?

~the second step of the dialogue continues in the screenshot~

If you give them a copper they say, “I take what I can get.”

If you give them a silver they say, “Yay, I’m being compensated!”

If you give them a gold they say, “So…so shiny! For that, I can help you reach your end goal faster.”

But then nothing seems to happen after any of the options… What is the “end goal” that this kit fails to help me reach???

Also it seems that once you give them gold you don’t have the option of giving them copper or silver the next time.

Inflation pushes progression beyond reach

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

You don’t need ascended armor to play the game. I have one ascended armor piece on one character and I’m doing just fine.

There are a lot of cheap options for exotic level armor and gear, and as long as you have those you can do almost any of the content in game without noticing issues.

You don’t even really need specific armor/weapon variants like berserker’s or rabid and all that. Those are fine tuning elements that aren’t required to successfully complete content.

In fact I don’t even think about traits on my PvE characters until I reach level 80. Even traits aren’t required to complete most content in the game.

While thats true, thats not the point the OP is trying to make. In this form of progression, whether it’s ascended for stats or skins, or legendaries for skins and effects, the prices involved are increasing, for a variety of reasons, and that makes it more difficult for the average player to obtain.

While many disagree that it is “inflation” that is causing the prices to rise, they do agree in general that it does take some time and effort even for a causal player to obtain these things.

If casual players could have all the things that hardcore players could have then what rewards would there be for hardcore players?

Casual players can’t have it all. That’s so lazy and entitled. If you don’t want to be a hardcore player then accept that you can’t have all the hardcore rewards. GW2 let’s you have everything you need for a reasonable amount of effort. Everything else is a grindfest to reward hardcore players.

The OP’s complaint is just as invalid as if I complained that the hardcore WvW players had more rank ability points than me. Since I haven’t hardcored WvW, I have to choose what WvW ability lines I want to unlock and wait for the rest.

Instant gratification would spit in the face of all the people who have put so much time and effort into the game.

I hope you all don’t mind, but I just have to say that this game has been the best mmo experience I’ve had since the first day I logged into Everquest 2 and WoW. Now, I am not here to promote those games, but out of all the mmos I have played, few have given me that sense of epicness like GW2 does. I am a new player and I am currently playing as a Norn warrior. I am about level 13 right now.

Frankly, and I think we can all agree on this, there are a lot of crap mmos out there. Thankfully, GW2 is not one of them. I just want to say bravo to the devs for putting together such an amazing mmo experience. Most mmos grab me for about an hour before I get tired of playing. This game, with the story arc, I was riveted for several hours as I worked to finish the story quest today.

What a fun game you have here.

Welcome to GW2. There are some people on the forum who are kind of upset with the game right now so your post ruffled some feathers. Just let your own experience form your opinions and I’m sure you’ll continue to have a positive experience.

It’s good to hear new people excited about the land of Tyria! Most of the people actually logged into the game instead of logged into the forums are also enjoying the game.
