What you are describing is a hack that some players use. If you ever see this happen again, please take screenshots and forward them to exploits@arena.net so the team can take care of this issue.
PD: of course, could be a thief using the shortbow skill. If he simply dissapeared (meaning no “puff” of smoke, no flashy animation) its a teleport hack
