vayne, i’m glad you’ve found a way to do your dailies that you enjoy, which cater to you. I don’t have any input on that section of the dailies. If they’re working for people, they’re fine.

I just propose that the pve dailies be reworked and expanded to cater to pve players. At presently they reward you for dipping your toe into pve (or not even that much) at a bizarre distribution of random points across the world. On a good day, perhaps 2 or 3 of them coincide, and if you regularly do the pve dailies, i challenge you to honestly say that you aren’t pleased to not have to WP all over the world to do them.

I simply propose that the zone specific ones become area-specific, and area specific become worldwide. Sure, you’re still not always going to get a set of dailies that you can do in your preferred place, but you can now at least do them all in one location.

It also deprives most (all but engi) of the skills they’re used to relying on/are most skilled at using. It’s basically like somehow turning into a different class you’re not familiar with.

if anything i think the solution is to create a pure water map, where all the significant combat takes place underwater – like an underwater silverwastes.

give people the incentive to learn and use their underwater skills and it won’t be so unfamiliar and there’ll be a lot more feedback to aid balance.

I think dodging should be more like Wildstar. You move quickly out of the way, but there is no invulnerability. That actually rewards skill.

There’s no point in having a dodge mechanic if you just eat the damage regardless.

That’s one thing a lot of games need to learn from GW2. Monster Hunter and its competitors have always been really bad about it, in particular.

I had this issue in witcher 2. i dodge, and get hit anyway? what?
better off just eating the hit and dealing that extra bit of damage

Right but included in that is also PvP defender and PvP reward earner, both of which I got WITHOUT PvPing in 5 minutes in one of the daily rooms that players have set up for cooperative dailies.

I actually got ranger winner at the same time, so in that five minutes, I got my entire daily without gathering or doing a vista. Five minutes and I was done…without PvPing even though I was in a PvP room.

Is it really so hard?

no, of course not. neither is waypointing around the world to quickly do the pve tasks.
guess what else it isn’t? did you guess enjoyable? because it’s not enjoyable.
i’m not a pvper. those dailies don’t cater to me. and yes, i get that people have set up places/ways for non-pvpers to quickly get their daily through pvp, but i don’t get how anyone could think that that is somehow a defense of the system. What it says to me is that this system is so disfunctional that people would rather switch game modes and then deliberately avoid playing that game mode as intended rather than do the dailies which have been set out for their preferred game mode.

I get that dailies DO cater to pvpers, much better than the old system. that’s fine. I’m not advocating a return to the old. I’d just like to see pve dailies which at the very least don’t require me to abandon my preferred mode and place of play.

To use the example i gave before, of the dailies i have today, the fractal one is fine. i do fractals at times, and going down to a lower scale isn’t really a step out of my way. The cursed shores event one is a little annoying, but not really so problematic – it would be better if it was a blanket ‘orrian event completer’ and included straits & malachor. Then, you could include a simple worldwide vista viewer & old-style gather requirement and you have a workable, if not especially stimulating set of dailies.

Todays daily (for pve, on my realm) is:
scale 1-10 fractal
siverpeaks lumberer
cursed shore event completer
kryta vista viewer

does anyone honestly rub their hands in anticipation when they see a list like that, and then enthusiastically rush off to complete them? I just facepalm and waypoint to the silverwastes

i agree. This needs to happen. LS1 set the stage for LS2 and without that background, it would be extremely confusing.

I’d also advise finishing your personal story before starting the living story, just because everyone in the living story acts like you already have. so if you’re stuck on the battle of claw island and all these pact soldiers are congratulating you on your defeat of Zhaitan, it can be a bit immersion-shattering

it’d be nice to have these baseline, the fall damage reduction at least. like, you fall outside combat, take 50% less damage, just like you run a whole heap faster outside combat. they could maybe fold the other bit into some other trait, maybe the ones which trigger an effect when you fall below 25% life.

that… wouldn’t improve it o.o

right now it’s a very minor dps increase, the sort of trait you stare unhappily at and then assign anyway, because meh, dps is dps.

your suggestion would turn it into the kind of trait you stare at in incomprehension, trying to puzzle out WHY it has a cooldown, what it’s supposed to achieve, and then pick another trait in the line because maybe that will actually do something?

Everyone anticipates the elite to be glint, at this point.
I’m not sure rurik was really, well, epic enough to be the elite. He was dead by the time you got to kryta, and only made that sad little reappearance as the half-baked precursor to the real end boss

They revamped the daily/removed monthly, for a few reasons. One of the big ones being that WvW/PvP had 2 options each, meaning they would have to go out of their way to get their Laurel. PvPers more so than WvWers.
This system is a big compromise, and it is working far better than the old system.

i agree, it does work better, it just isn’t perfect.

Improving dailies wouldn’t necessarily mean reverting. A better system than either old or new would be to:

  • Have 4 modes: Persistent PvE; Dungeons/FotM; PvP; WvW.
  • Each mode offers 4 options; three are organic and one is harder.
  • The harder one offers a better chest.
  • Complete three to get the daily.

I’d guess that would fix 75% of the complaints from those who limit their preferences.

This is exactly the sort of thing i’d want.

My main complaint is honestly just that ‘gatherer’ went from 20 gatherings of any kind anywhere, to 10 gatherings of a specific kind from a specific place. why? what improvement does that offer other than forcing you to go somewhere you normally wouldn’t? And if it is somewhere you would normally be, then what difference would it make to you if the achievement didn’t require you to be in that specific area?

My ideal set of pve dailies would be something along the lines of:

-daily gathers (10 or 20, i don’t really care)
-daily events (in any zone)
-daily boss kill (any of the big event bosses)
and two other wildcard ones from the current list.

We need this- a Bestiary and/or a Lore Book.

a system that rewards you for playing other than how you naturally would isn’t really ‘play how you want’.

If it was JUST ap from the daily, an argument could be made that it catered to achievement hunters, but because the rewards have actual value/utility, it makes them feel like something we should be doing/have to do in order to play properly.

You may disagree, but i don’t think it’s good design for the philosophy.

If you can’t be bothered to do three whole things in an entire day, quite frankly you don’t deserve the achievement points.

Anet has alsways stressed the game is meant to be “play how you want”

going far, far out of my way to do arbitrarily decided tasks is not, “play how you want”

i dislike how few and how specific the pve dailies became. It used to be that you’d easily get 3/5 and often 4/5 just by normal playing, and then could go pick up the last one fairly easily – if you felt like it.

now… i have to go to a specific area, harvest a specific node type, then go to a specific zone, complete a bunch of events, then jump to a third zone and afk until the world boss train comes around… it all just feels too forced. I get that some people like their achievements to be something they have to go out of their way for, but there’s a massive catalogue of those already, and more get added with every content patch (which have admittedly dried up with HoT in development)

THAT SAID… the rewards for dailies are a great deal better, and i get the old reward basically just by logging in each day. So i’m not actually any worse off, and when i feel motivated to actually do the dailies, i’m better off.
…i just don’t feel like i am.

I just did the math, and this means that you would need an absurd 4250 condition damage to get bleed to tick for as much under the new system as the old. That… really doesn’t seem like it could be balanced

the alternative to RNG is a system where the only way to achieve rewards is to put in an arbitrary amount of work – ie, gold, and buying off the tp.
If you don’t like the rng system, you simply don’t have to play with it – grind out the gold to meet TP prices on the thing you want.

see, what you quoted is exactly what i’m drawing my conclusion for. assuming your condition damage doesn’t change between the old system and the new, 700 is the ‘break even’ point. ie, they scaled down the base because condition stacking means that conditions from people uninvested in the stat are more effective than previously, so the base damage of each condition needed to go down. But, in order for condition damage to actually be worthwhile, as this change was designed for, the scaling had to be increased, and so 700 was chosen as the ‘break even’ point where you wouldn’t notice a difference between the new and old systems.

Edit: according to the talk page of the condition damage wiki page, bleed used to do 65 damage at lvl 80 with no condmg, and now would do 64 damage at 700 condmg, which agrees with your assessment rather than mine

Absolutely not. The silver/black energy theme is very attractive and really sets the Revenant particles apart from the crowd. I wish the other weapons utilized them.

I’m not meaning set up the warrior orange/yellorange swirls, just the animation of the character spinning around. Of course the rev needs to keep the misty swirls, i just felt like that little flourish they do for chain 3 of staff #1 looked kinda pitiful.

Comparing it to old values is meaningless.
(but to give you a hint, the old condi damage of 0 is supposed to be the same as the new condi damage of about 700).

my understanding was that old condi damage of 700 is the same as new condi damage of 700.
If you have less than that, you’ll do less damage than under the old system. if you have more, you’ll do more damage (than you were doing with an equal amount of condmg)

Legends

in Revenant

Posted by: Narrrz.7532

Narrrz.7532

I mentioned this in another thread, but i really feel like legends shouldn’t be an ‘always active’ thing like ele attunements – right now we kinda just ‘attune’ to a legend, it’s just not very unique (especially since it doesn’t bring new weapon skills with it)

What i’d like to see is, i guess, something a bit more like necro death shroud – except we can equip two of them at once, and rather than building energy outside legend channeling, attuning to a legend generates a certain amount of energy and gives us additional, slowly decaying energy gen. When energy drops to zero, we are forced to drop the legend and it goes on cooldown (and a shorter cooldown on our other equipped legend)

Weapon skills would be defined at least partially by whatever legend we channeled, but also by what weapon was in use. This could be as simple as adding extra effects to weapon attacks (inflicting conditions in mallyx, for example), but i think it would be neat if it changed at least the autoskill/chain for each of our equipped weapons.
Incidentally, this would make the limited selection of weapons and lack of a swap mechanic feel much less restrictive.

Finally, and purely for aesthetic purposes, it would be cool to get some kind of visual transformation upon channeling a legend. Nothing as severe as lich form – more like what we see already with Mallyx & Jalis elite skills. Just something to make it feel like you were actually empowered by these past legends.

Apologies for hijack :P

This has the potential to set up a ‘requirement’ for dedicated healers, ie, those who sacrifice all damage to enable their allies to live longer and thus deal more damage (to make up for the damage the support cannot provide)

this in turn sets up a situation where people are forced to sacrifice their preferred playstyle in order to make play in any way possible. That’s not good design and i’m glad GW2 has never crossed that line.

Why i would like the healing power stat to be more useful and rewarding to those who choose to invest in it, i don’t think that this suggestion is a step in that direction.

slightly tangential, but i’d like it if we could get a little pop out bar for hotswitching traits (if we are confirmed never gonna get a trait save system ala GW1)

so, say, just above your chat window, on the side of the screen, there is a panel of 3 arrows, which you can click to quickly open up JUST the traits part of the build window (miniaturized a little for unobtrusiveness).

click the arrow to extend your trait panel, quickly switch to the new traits you need (say, the fall damage one if you’re about to start a JP) and then click the arrows to hide it again.

Eh you ask for a movement impairing effect and then complain it’s not easy enough to keep the enemy moving for torment… Shouldn’t you ask for something like a knockback? :p

i think those were two separate complaints. not only is it difficult to apply torment with a melee weapon that offers no (significant) snare, but being a melee weapon, torment is extra useless because to hit them reliably requires them to stay relatively still.

If it applied significant stacks of torment then this could counter the lack of snare, as movement would suddenly spike the damage you took. Alternately, it could cripple and apply a condition that isn’t movement punishing thereby being fully effective against an enemy that’s not trying to run away (or is incapable of doing so)

I do NOT think that this is a good idea. In essence, this just gives revenant weapon swap as a class mechanic – this would be tantamount to thieves having only initiative & no steal ability.

While i do agree the class needs SOME ability to swap skills 1-5, i don’t think that this suggestion is a good way to do it and i think that will be immediately apparent if it is implemented this way. I’d like to avoid the time and trouble that would cause.

All this will achieve is ensuring that builds which use a specific weapon and a specific legend are not viable unless that legend is the weapons associated legend. Forget that this allows bad builds – every class has the luxury of building badly.
What i worry about is that it will prevent innovative, otherwise viable builds which use a weapon with its ‘non-associated’ legend. I don’t think that’s a good thing.

most people fail, as expected – because this is not a remarkable result, few are compelled to post about it
a few people succeed ( perhaps more, perhaps less than the actual absolute chance – that’s just RNG at work ) – a disproportionate number of these report their success to other people

result: anyone reading somewhere where such reports are posted sees what seems to be an unusually high success rate.

i feel like mallyx self resistance should be doubled in all cases, and self-condition durations at LEAST doubled.
outgoing conditions i think just need a rework. too few stacks/too short duration to actually be worthwhile.
elite demon form needs to grant ongoing resistance and pull conditions on its own – using the condition draw with it active is just a recipe to have it end so early that it accomplishes nothing (except depleting your energy bar, and leaving you at lower hp than when you cast it)
