Meh. They’re…ok, but they don’t really suit me. Same with the armor. It’s not bad, it just looks more like armor from a new dungeon rather than the (soon to be) strongest armor you can make. I’d probably just transmute them, since we can do that.

Living World and Lore

Nilkemia.8507

The idea of the living story is that it’s a living story…Anet didn’t want to make it so people have to log in to follow the story. It was an intentional design decision so that people who came and went wouldn’t feel lost.

That doesn’t mean that big things can’t happen or won’t happen…but the living story was never supposed to further the main story or be the main story. If you expect it to, you’re bound to be disappointed.

Actually they did make it so that folks will have to log in.

That’s the entire point. They’re “spacing the story out” and will “tell it to us later” all these loose ends they have.

The sad thing, the living story is supposed to be the main story. But that takes a back seat to the fact that the living story is made to keep people logged on as much as physically possible.

This. Completely. I’ve stopped caring about it all together. At least the next one doesn’t involve that invasive weed, but she’ll be back eventually. (sighs)

I don't like Scarlet Briar

in Living World

Nilkemia.8507

She’s had her chance to impress/intimidate, and she squandered it completely by the end of Clockwork Chaos. Most of the things she’s accomplished are just nonsensical and seem to just ignore the lore regarding them. She’s supposedly so smart, yet her only real victory so far was indirectly killing one Captain on the Lion’s Arch Council, which became pointless in the long run. Supposedly she’s got a bigger plan, but all I’ve seen is “hey let’s kill everyone” from her endeavors so far.

Zhaitan killed Tybalt Leftpaw. Checkmate.

And Forgal and Seiran. Well, his minions did it, but still more or less it was Zhaitan. Triple Checkmate. Scarlet hasn’t killed anyone important.

Everyone is forgetting that she killed 10-50k people in the pavilion by bombing the only escape rout. So she killed a kittenload of people. Npcs should matter and be greater motivation for players to decapitate her giggling head off.

10,000 to 50,000 people in the pavilion? (If you’re using that K=1,000) Where are you getting these numbers? I don’t think there were even a thousand in there. That last bomb was just where Logan happened to be at the moment from what I saw, and only the bunch right around him got taken out (save for the one he managed to use aegis on). Around a dozen at best?

In that case, Zhaitan still wins due to killing far more at Claw Island. That’s not even counting all those who died when Lion’s Arch got flooded just by him waking up and rising Orr in the process, or all those the Risen have managed to kill in other attacks.

I noticed that the Legendary rank icons (The purple circle badges) on the Destiny’s Edge characters are gone now. Guess they realized that was really silly when said NPCs couldn’t even handle a regular veteran despite being supposedly legendary. Still, wish they had actually made them more useful and stronger. Seriously..

I’ll just…leave this here:

Following this logic:

Two or more guardians using symbols should cause feedback loops if they overlap, making the seals damage and debuff anyone on them along with strengthening them.

Bomb and grenade explosions hit enemies and allies alike.

Bouncing attacks from a mesmer’s staff and greatsword hurt allies as well as giving them boons, and vice versa to enemies.

Thieves’ Caltrops and Poison Gas skills also cripple, bleed, and poison allies. Their Blinding Powder and Smoke Screen blind allies as well as enemies.

Ranger’s Healing Spring also heals enemies and is useless in very dry areas. Also, their axe bounces hit allies too.

Elementalists’ AoE hits friendlies too..

Same with Warriors…

Hmm, need I go on?

A wall of text pointing out how nonsensical Scarlet is.

This. All of this. +10.

With the exception of some friendly dredge in Frostgorge Sound and the ones you help in Sorrow’s Embrace, the majority of the dredge are xenophobic and would never work for a half insane sylvari without something big in it for them. The story of Sorrow’s Embrace was much better, showing Kudu managing to work with them by appealing to their desire for more power and giving them technology to sick them on the rest of Tyria.

In fact, the Flame and Frost arc seems to imply that all we did to help the friendly dredge in Sorrow’s Embrace was for nothing, since either they failed to stop the corruption of the moletariate or became just as corrupt afterwards, and decided to work with another bad guy faction again, this time with the Flame Legion, who are known for enslaving their own kind, and dislike females. These two vastly different factions aligning was already implausible from what we know about both of them, and both of them just being okay with working under Scarlet with nothing good to gain from it(that we know of) is utterly nonsensical.

Then the Aetherblades. Where is she getting all of these recruits from? Do they willingly join or do they consist of people she just kidnaps? What to they get from working for her that they can’t get some other way? She claims they do it because they like living, but I fail to see that as a valid reason when she sends them off to die by the hundreds in invasions and in the bases that keep getting raided.

And now the Nightmare Court. I thought Scarlet was trying to avoid the whole Dream vs. Nightmare dichotomy, and that was part of what made her choose her path. Apparently that was quickly forgotten, because she’s working with/has a deal with them now.

Remember that talk of the Dream and Nightmare, Caithe and Faolain, all being part of a bigger design for the sylvari, and how she’s supposedly trying to change the rules? (at least for herself) What happened to all that? I thought Twilight Assault might at least give us an inkling of what her bigger goals might be, but instead, more gimmicky bosses, more annoying trash, and ooohhh, Caithe’s got a secret, but I’m not telling!

Scarlet’s been around too long now to not be working into her bigger plan by now. She’s had her chance to intimidate/impress me, and squandered it completely by the end of Clockwork Chaos.

This kind kind of villain can work, but it’s been done already, and better. There are plenty of other threats we could be dealing with that are more dangerous and interesting than her.

Where to get the PvP Adept Boots?

Sigh. They really need to alter how the rewards work.

I know PvP and PvE are separate modes, but Rank 60 for Tier 1 is just ludicrous compared to how easily they can be obtained outside of that.

I saw a huge thread complaining about people farming to Rank 50 in 2 weeks, but when I see how much trouble it is just for one piece I want, I can’t really fault the farmers for finding a way to do it faster.

I probably won’t do it, since I don’t enjoy PvP enough for that.. sigh.

I’ve done some looking on the PvP reward listings, and apparently it comes from Shark chests…at rank 60 and up.

Why so high up just for Tier 1 cultural gear? I could see Tier 2 being that high, but I think that Tier 1 gear should be obtainable at Rank 30. That would seem better. With how long it takes to gain rank, it makes no sense for Tier 1 gear to require that much.

Scarlett is, of course, a 100% plagiat on Harley quinn, but it’s good enough for the game level. Its not like we had a proper made character after Rurik anyway.

Palawa Joko anyone? He was over the top too, but in a much better way.

Palawa Joko seems like he would be a good Personal Nemesis, at least for people who played Nightfall, because his conquest of Elona is partly due to the fact that we let him out (to save the world admittedly) and never seal him away again, making it more personal because it was a result of our actions.

Or, at least it feels that way to me. I never played any of the first Guild Wars.

Favorite part of the new path?

How much Caithe hates Scarlet for no reason at all.

I think this is going to become a running gag “Scarlet? Man she’s annoying. I hate that chick.”

Well, if some invasive weed I only met once and didn’t care for then came back, mailed me a challenge, and then claimed to know my secrets, I’d hate them too. Especially when said weed loves to hear herself screech and needs half a dozen holograms for just one room or corridor in her facility.

“My vanity is the only vanity allowed here!”

And like you said, her personality is much more fitting of a minion or decently ranked henchman, but not the boss of the whole thing.

Well, not quite. turns out they skipped a cutscene or two, and I didn’t get to see the confrontation between Holo-Scarlet and Caithe, which was supposed to be of that new cutscene style like the Faren and Marjory ones, or so was my impression. Still, at least Caithe didn’t get turned evil or have something awful done to her by Scarlet.

It’s clear to me now that I’m just second rate at even PVE. Can’t do PvP or WvW well, so I thought I’d at least gotten good at this. I’ll just stick to what I can do.

So i guess you think you are a lot better than i am, since you expected to do it a lot faster? I know im quite casual, but there is no need to act like an elitist like that.

I don’t recall ever typing once that I was better, or thought I was better, than anyone else on these forums. Ever. Feel free to find a post where I said that, and I’ll correct my mistake.

- You agree with a thread that discusses proper morals and values within a dungeon setting. Yet you come to the come to the forums after ragequitting a dungeon and write a post demanding the dungeon to be changed or the devs to be fired.

And those contradict each other how exactly? There’s no connection here.

I like the opening post because they point out certain terms people use quite a bit here, as well as pointing out that people shouldn’t be judged solely by their class, but by their skill and how well they work with the others in a dungeon.

Nice to see you completely ignored that I tried more than once, tried different things, had some measure of perseverance and only gave up after most of the others did anyway. And I didn’t demand the dungeon change/firing, I said it should happen. But I already know it won’t, so no point demanding. Quit twisting my words.

Its funny how you talk about woodenpotatoes in your own thread and how his video only describes the lore. There where a few statements he made that describe the difficulty and what he thinks about it:

Starts at 3.28. (for some reason the forum doesnt want to include my time added to it.)

That doesn’t even have anything to do with this thread at all. Are you just trolling now? (In before this gets infracted and removed by a bot moderator for questioning that.)

He could’ve turned out to be our herald, telling us about the dungeons. He could’ve shown up with the Order representatives while you’re still choosing an order, trying to get them to work together and even help you during that.

While I don’t regard him with hatred, I can see why many do.

As for him turning evil…well, right now I just can’t see a good motive for him doing so, given what we know about him. He could get forcibly corrupted by Nightmare, but other than that, doesn’t seem like the kind of guy that would turn against you.
