Some time later, I saw a chat looking for players to help with the Crucible of Eternity. I decided to help with that, and being teleported into it made it so we didn’t have to fight the frustrating champion commander to get in.
Note to any developers who might, but probably aren’t reading this: Making a dungeon only accessible after running a gauntlet of annoying enemies, and then having to kill a champion whom abuses teleportation and non-combat regeneration with an arena that forces you to split up and gives little room to dodge his beam spam is not fun, at all. And that repeated “You know, your failure is only funny if you try” line
gets grating after the first time hearing it.
Once inside, things go fine at first. We just run past the first few mobs, and fight through what we have have to, but then we reach the lasers..
Another thing to note: Instant deaths are one of the fastest ways to suck the fun out of anything you’re doing in a game. One mistake and you die is just infuriating. You so much as stand next to one of the lasers, nearly 30000 damage to you, instantly downed, dead if you fell in the ground lasers, and even if you didn’t, the vertical ones will get you before you can get back up. And this damages your armor, so you’d better run this part nude.
Afterwards, having to disable security while endless bomb golems and some bigger ones come after you. Doable, but still not fun. Getting spam launched multiple times by the bombs didn’t help.
What was next.. ah, the big ice guy.. (Name began with a B, had Scales of Jormag, needed to make him hit pillars..) More padding. The constant icicle red circles were a pain though. You see? It’s either frustrating or tedious.
And, finally Subject Alpha. Only attack I could clearly see through the whole fight was the fire spikes he kept dropping. And they hurt (over 2/3rd’s of my HP), partly because my armor was damaged quite a bit from everything else.
I’ll try running some other dungeons to point out other things, but my fingers need a break.

Maybe I’m not describing well enough why I find dungeons not fun.
I tried a solo run of Twilight Arbor’s story with a necromancer, circle strafed with a staff to kill the two spiders at the start, did the same against the spiders in the next room, and then kept dying while trying to run past the next trash mobs due to Grasping Dead wells, seed mortars, and at least one of them having a leap and knockdown move which sticks my character’s face in the dirt for about 4 seconds, during which they shred her HP.
Bad Design/Not fun elements:
1: Enemies with knockdown, launch, or stun moves that they use as their opening attack, and when they do, these keep you stuck anywhere from 2-6 seconds (depending on what’s using it), much longer than similar skills you can use against them.
2: Overpowered/Combined versions of skills we can use. The “Grasping Dead” wells they use? Basically they can throw it on the ground like a trap or grenade, the resulting well being the size of nercro staff marks with the Greater Marks trait on, and if you’re stuck in them, it hits you constantly and lasts as long as wells do. And I’ve seen them get two or three around, leaving little room to avoid those, let alone any other attacks that are coming your way.
Shotting down clay pigeons isn’t fun.
OP, please reply to this: How do you make interrupts, cripples, blinds, dodges etc. relevant to the game when enemies fall dead after 2-3 hits and can’t deal damage?
The situation you’re describing wouldn’t happen unless you were in Lv 80 gear killing enemies in a starting zone(Lv2-5), or killing ambient creatures which die in one hit no matter what.
And besides, those conditions are not relevant when the bosses have innate resistance or outright immunity to them.
Not for me anyway.
Fighting regular enemies with near champion level HP requiring all 5 players to focus fire for 3 to 5 minutes isn’t fun.
Getting killed in 5 hits at best and 2 at worst isn’t fun.
Having to sit there dead because I can’t just waypoint and run back until everyone’s dead or the others retreat isn’t fun.
Getting rewards that aren’t worth the time isn’t fun.
I just don’t get this. I’ve tried the story mode of every dungeon except Citadel of Flame, and it’s more or less the above happening all the time. So far, I’ve only ever beaten Twilight Arbor story and Arah story. All the other times, it just got so frustrating that we’d just give up.
So, what do any of you see in these dungeons that I’m not seeing? Because right now I can’t imagine anyone wanting to do these the 50 or so times each it takes to get the gear from those vendors.
This thread looks like it belongs in the WvW forum, not dungeon forum. Secondly, I don’t find WvW fun. Only reason I tried it was for 100% map completion, and after I couldn’t do that, I decided not to bother with it.
Meh. Before the reveal, I was thinking that it would turn out to be the steam creatures. You know, the ones that woman in Hoelbrak keeps yelling about, yet they’re only fought in Lornar’s Pass?
I was expecting them to suddenly attack out of nowhere using their steam portals and technology, trying to bring and build more forces, to expand and take more land. Maybe even have bigger/newer ones we haven’t seen before, that don’t resemble other creatures?
But it’s just the dredge and Flame Legion, and they’re working together now, oh noes.
I’ve killed plenty of both, and the Triad in Brisban Wildlands still feels like more of a threat.
Still, should wait and see where this story goes. This still has potential, and I’m interested in how they would interact and view each other, and what exactly they’re trying to accomplish by all this.

This is obviously wrong. Map completion which is a pure PvE thing should never require the cooperation of other people. That’s why even dungeon points don’t count towards it.
I had to fork out $10 + 4g to be able to afford the transfer to another server so I could get map completion.
This. With the exception of Orr, every other zone up until that point is something you could fill all on your own. (Orr will require some help due to the temples, statues, and constant enemies.)
Over 95% of it is PvE, and suddenly making the little bit left WvW is awful, because depending on the situation and how the resets go, it can become near impossible to get the last bits you need.
It hurts PvE players by making them go into something they probably won’t want to do, it hurts actual WvW players because those players take up space. And little of what you learn in PvE prepares you for anything in WvW at all. It’s not fun or worth it.
Which becomes null and void if your server constantly loses. Making WvW maps count for 100% map completion was a terrible decision that shouldn’t have been done.
You, me, and others, apparently. There’s around 6 threads about it right now.
Thanks. I don’t think the manual mentions that..
Is there a way to withdraw certain amounts of materials from your bank/collection like you can with gold? Like, if I have 150 wood planks and just want to take out 10. I’ve never seen an option to take out a certain amount, so that’s either a small flaw with the storage system, or I’m being stupid and not seeing the option.
Overwriting a rune destroys it. And as I’ve stated, most of the runes I have are of different types, and already attached to rare armor I would like to keep. Unless there is a way to separate a rune from armor without destroying/salvaging one of them, I have to look around for that rune again and get spares for the characters that I want to have them for, or hope they’re around on the Trading Post and don’t drain too much of the little gold that I have. It would be at least a bit neat if certain groups of runes worked together (the runes of the Six Gods, for example), but if I want to use those Superior Runes to their fullest, I have to hope there are five of them. Superior Rune of Grenth was one I got from the Personal Story, and I only got one. I doubt many will just sell that off. Badly executed.
It’s where the trolls and griefers are.
The maps being required for 100% completion when the other 95% was PvE content.
You’re right. There should be more WvW maps.
True. Having 3 maps being identical with only one unique one is lazy. But WvW shouldn’t count towards map completion.
Well, I’ll just give up on it then. I figured that getting 100% maps would be a nice little goal that I could do myself, plus the map on Tyria looks quite nice when it’s all filled in.
But I guess it’s better to not have goals at all.
The maps being required for 100% completion when the other 95% was PvE content.
Not useful then. Most of my Major and Superior Runes are all different types, some coming from the Personal Story, and others when my luck decides to work. And most are already in armor I’d like to keep, and there’s no way to separate them without losing one. Yet another interesting idea badly executed.
Having champions count towards Daily Veteran Slayer? Sure, I guess. I think killing a champion should count as at least 2 veterans, or just fill the percentage completely.
No Daily Champion Slayer however. Champions are too irritating to be required for laurels.

I’ve noticed that the runes I have don’t seem to actually work. I looked at the wiki, and they supposedly activate their their abilities when there are more runes of the same tier on, and there are 3 tiers, Minor, Major, and Superior. I have 3 Major-tier runes and 1 Superior rune equipped, but only the first ability for each of them works. So, do they have to be the exact same tier and type to stack? If so, that makes these runes not very useful at all.
That remains to be seen. And why post it on another site and not their main site? That is suspicious to me.
I just checked that, and as it shows, this has been around for nearly a month. That’s bad when you consider that this affects a service requiring either money or a lot of gold. This is something that should’ve been fixed immediately. If I hadn’t seen that, I’d have figured the most recent patch caused this.
It won’t allow you to change your glow intensity, and after you use it, your glow intensity is stuck at the far left (no glow at all). I noticed it change back every time I would switch to change something else, and even making that the last change I did didn’t solve it. I ended up wasting 3 kits and not being able to get my glow back.
(Searches “WvW maps for 100% completion”. No results.)
Well, I’ve found it frustrating so far for just one character. Only one or two waypoints you can use, having to run and hide constantly, dying every time I get dragged into a fight, some points of interest and vistas unreachable because they’re in enemy keeps, and so on. It’s not fun at all.
This slap in the face is almost as bad as forcing people to group for a dungeon to finish their Personal Story, which was soloable up until that.
Who thought that was a good idea? It isn’t. After all that trouble filling up the map on Tyria, finding out I have to play a mode I don’t like to get the rest kills my motivation.
I’ve had this since yesterday morning. Sometimes it crashes and I have to restart my client completely. Even the internet connection here goes down for a minute or two afterwards.
Now I can’t even log in without this happening! What is going on? Is this just me?
…Sigh. Might as well post in other threads since no one is looking here. What a waste.
I am constantly lagging and disconnecting anywhere from every 5 minutes to mere seconds after I log in. Just yesterday things were running fine and I’d have the occasional disconnect, and now it’s this non-stop.
It’s probably due to the weather here (snowed last night), but has anyone else had the same problem? I just keep disconnecting every few minutes now when before I may have the occasional one every few hours. Server is Isle of Janthir.
Sigh. I don’t see how this update solves anything. I don’t know about this “zerg rezzing” but I guess they do it so the boss doesn’t just regenerate to full health, right? I think? And if these bosses have Champion level HP, I can imagine them being a pain to bring down in the first place (especially if they can nearly one-hit-kill you like most champions can).
Reviving others in combat is often far too risky to be worth it (it takes longer, and enemies are smart enough to attack you 70% of the time when you try), unless there are still others distracting the enemy, and even then you might still be hit in the crossfire.
My desire to go through dungeons is now even less then before. I wanted to try and get others to help me with Arah so I could finish my story, but I don’t think I’ll even do that now.
Seems that I’m not going away after all. Still, I want to thank the support team for hearing me out when I asked for help. Sorry if this isn’t the right way to do it.
Only two of the wardens are around at the area, none of the others show up. The Unseen Hunter is in the lake and will attack if you’re close, and has invincibility.
Nope. Just a quest-line, forgotten as quickly as Gavin. They said the stag was safe in the garden from that point on, but I’m not sure it’s even there.
