They look okay, but they don’t really suit my characters. (Aside from the sword and shield for my guardian, maybe.) And I don’t feel like buying keys to open chests for a chance at the scraps to get a chance at a ticket for these. Sorry.
You mean impaling the remains? Yeah, that was kinda annoying when they got in the way.
Yeah…that would’ve been much better. A deep, seductive voice taunting you slowly as you go about. (Maybe Laura Bailey?) She should’ve kept the hood on too, that hair/headpiece thing looked silly.
Given that the Inquest are working with the Aetherblades (and her, by extension) it’s possible that they arranged for her to be able to attend and graduate all 3 colleges. That’s only speculation though, otherwise my suspension of disbelief is utterly broken.
She’s not ugly, but not pretty either..Her voice is good, but her personality is rather shallow. “Hey, let’s kill everyone! Oh, by the way, the Pavilion’s mine now! Hahahaha!”
The only thing left is me puzzling just how she came to be. Was she a Nightmare courtier who decided to seek more knowledge from the Inquest during their attempts to cooperate in the Brisban Wildlands? Is she a Soundless who decided to completely shun the Dream in favor of her twisted fun?
Or could she not be from the Pale Tree we know of? There’s at least another one out there..what if the Inquest have found it first? She does seem to have a distinct look from other Sylvari, and seems rather young, even by Sylvari standards.
Still, just speculation. We’ll have to wait and see.
The culling settings are universal between WvW and PvE, unfortunately they were inadvertently not re-labeled for this update.
The settings to change your culling are labeled as “WvW Character Limit” and “WvW Character Quality”.
Sorry for the confusion. We’ve made the appropriate teams aware of this.
Thanks for clarifying.
So, can the culling levels be different for each mode or do they both stay at the same level as the other when we modify it?
Isn’t culling still around, except we have more control over it now? The nameplates everywhere is kinda odd though..
I agree. Why did they just get warped away? I was expecting to fight those Aetherblades…then we don’t. Eh?
Speaking of which, if Faren turns out to be alive, we’d better save him too.
While it may have been my laptop being slow, the lines at the bottom of the screen seemed to be out of sync with the voices, the voices would come first and the text a second or two after. Seeing the watchknights get turned into monsters was neat though.
The Faren cut-scene was nicely done. His emotions seemed okay, while Jennah’s looked kinda fake (since that one was a fake). I’m a little down at seeing him (maybe?) die. And it’s sadder since the Jennah he reached for was illusionary, so…does this mean she’s gotten 3 people killed now? Hmm… >_>
And whoever said Sylvari can’t be beautiful clearly hasn’t seen too many. Scarlet’s not ugly, just not pretty either. Sadly she also seems to be another “hey, let’s kill everyone” kind of villain. At least she actually did something this time besides just teleporting in and being annoyi—-wait, no. That was all she did. The minions were doing the rest.
Meh. Still, the cut-scenes were rather well done. Good job. Wish the Personal Story had more of these.
Not really.. :/
I was more curious about that giant meat greatsword of his came from (Caladhog, it’s called?)
Now I dislike the Queens Guantlet even more, why’d you have to drag it into this?!
>.<;
In Brisban Wildlands, there’s a skritt emissary you escort to the balloon. Also, in Caledon Forest, there’s a hylek emissary as well. There are probably other lesser race emissaries too, but these are ones that I’ve seen. What happens to them? Do they just get lost in Divinity’s Reach? (Although, the skritt one would definitely run off hunting for shinies..)
Next up: Malchor’s Leap Eye of Zhaitan.
Same as the before-mentioned Champion Risen King, except this one patrols the King’s Passage and doesn’t have a trigger event to my knowledge. It just appears seemingly when it wants to. Although, there’s a much worse champion that can show up when it’s not around…
@Waar Kijk Je Naar: Oh, really? Sorry about that. The ones I list are ones that seem to be rarely/never fought from my own observations. Since I’m just on one server and don’t guest much, for all I know they’re getting slaughtered on all the other servers, or on my own server when I’m not around.
@JudgeD: Yep, I’ve seen that Branded Devourer. Fought it once, with one or two others, basically circle strafing the whole fight shooting it to death. And all I mentioned about Champion Ravagers is that the Risen Vigil Tactician (asura variant) seems to be equivalent to that. Like you, I hope to never see an actual Champion Risen Ravager. Regular ones and veterans are already a pain.
Oooh, is that quaggan the one near the Vigil camp, or another one elsewhere?
The one near that Vigil camp sometime gets beaten, since the new loot boxes.
Again, thanks for all the feedback, especially for ones in other zones. I’ll be stuck on Orr champions a little longer.
Speaking of which…
Champion YF-Gold Golem.
This one is the result of failing an event where you try to stop Inquest from draining the orb on the Pyrite Peninsula in Malchor’s Leap to power an experimental golem shell. (I have never failed the event personally, but I’m certain failing it causes the Champion to spawn.)
It’s basically a beefed up Mark II golem with spread missiles, but is still simple to deal with once you know how it acts. Still, I only ever saw anyone fight it once..while I was already soloing it.
You’re referring to Gargantula. Yep, that heal gimmick is so annoying, and she can do it 2/3 times, just dragging out the fight purposely for the time limit.
Next for the Champions of Orr: The Champion Risen King (a.k.a Cursed Shore’s Eye of Zhaitan)
“Hey, want to go on an adventure?”
“No. Your idea of an adventure is going into a tomb with a Lyssa statue dropping chaos storms on you, and triggering a champion with ancient Orrian lasers that take off half my HP and put 15 stacks of vulnerability on me. Meanwhile, you’ll be dead the whole fight.”
Best of all, there’s a channeling skill point there, good luck getting it while this jerk is up without stealth or being lucky.
Not pictured below: Said Eye is actually shooting me through the floor I’m on. Because someone thought bosses should be able to do that.
Thanks Zaxares for pointing all those out. I’d like to see some screenshots from the rest of you though. ^^
Especially since most of my posts will still be covering Orr, at least for now. There are so many! :/
Err, next up: Captain Rotbeard (who actually has no beard, by the way)
He just meanders around the wreck of the ship in Desmina’s Hallows.
“Treasure..devour..” “Ugh…”
I actually went in and tried to fight him, (to see his skills, if nothing else) but between the narrow corridors messing with the camera and all the other Risen, I didn’t really notice him until I died.
Next up. The Champion Risen Giant. No, not the one at Arah, the one just pacing back and forth a ways west of the village of Ewan. Basically the same as the Veteran variant, only more HP, more grubs, and more annoying to fight.
I’ve seen people fight it once or twice, but it just tends to be ignored most of the time I see it, even now. Although, I understand why.
Another Champion of Orr: The Champion Risen Vigil Tactician.
This one is special in that it has 3 different forms it can take:
Human variant: Basically a Champion Risen Preserver. Lots of AoE geysers and those water projectiles..I think.
Charr variant: A Charr thrall with the moveset(and hitboxes!) of a Champion Risen Abomination.
Asura variant: Lots of Chaos Storms, can shoot purple scepter projectiles, basically the closest thing to a Champion Risen Ravager right now. (As of now, we have never seen a Champion Risen Ravager..hopefully it stays that way.)
The asura variant is pictured below. I’ll try to photo the other 2 eventually.
Is there now? I might go up there and get a pic of that, eventually.
Anywho, next up: The Champion Risen Drake Broodmother.
While this one was in the Cursed Shore, there are at least one each in Malchor’s Leap, Straits of Devastation, and even one in Caledon Forest. (was a veteran, but got buffed)
They are all tied to dynamic event chains, and used to be one of the easier champions to fight. But with the buffs these things have gotten (able to summon many hatchlings, a charge attack it can spam and leaving toxic AoE wherever it charges, annoyingly short leash range), these things are avoided from now on even with the new champion loot boxes.
Sorry Rakkan, but you’re staying kidnapped.

This is meant to be a thread that talks about champions that are/were rarely fought at all, either due to being just out of the way, or just not worth the effort to most.
Since I’m just a lowly Islander of Janthir, perhaps this won’t be so true for other servers. But here’s a bunch of champions I seldom/never see anyone fight.
Our first listing: A Champion Risen Spider in Sparkfly Fen.
You know, the kind with that crazy pull/immobilize that can spit eggs on you that spawn veteran hatchlings? Well, someone thought it would be a great idea to have one hiding around a Rich Platinum Vein in a cave that nobody would ever go to unless they were splunking around looking for that vein. It drops down as soon as you go into the room with the vein, and while I haven’t tried using stealth here, that’s probably the only way to go in without triggering it.
It even has it’s own group event with a time limit. Not sure why.
And now for something different. You know a bad guy group is truly incompetent when they can get mobs that normally don’t care(or attack you first) to attack them!
It’s amusing to watch them aggro pretty much anything else in sight. And it tends to happen more often than not, at least for mee.
(edited by Nilkemia.8507)
Nobody cares about that, eh? o.O
I thought this thread was about the Holo-Kiel with the Terminator eyes, not about the inconsistency of the various nations’ levels of technology! Desist!
Holo-Kiel: I will not be ignored! OBEY! (starts lazoring random NPCs in Lion’s Arch)
“Her holo’s ego is out of control! Aaaahhh!”
Now look what your off-topic-ness has done, eek!
Wastes too much time..
I don’t mind it much..but Holo Kiel is scary..
Holo-Kiel: Thank you all for electing me! I assure you I will make Lion’s Arch a better place and you’ll be better off…
As long as you obey...
No thanks. Liadri isn’t worth the time or effort. Unless we can sell these tickets or give them to other characters/players (which we can’t), they’re just taking up space.
(edited by Nilkemia.8507)
I give up. I find the first part very easy, second part always gets me. After trying over 70 times, this is not for me.
Leaving GW2 on the 27th, so it’s just as well. Don’t even care about getting my birthday gift at the end of this month.
Aww. Well, I understand. This boss is really that bad.
No, that’s still no excuse. This was a bad change and didn’t need to happen.
No! Keep the boots! They have many uses, unlike those tickets.
I think the Mystic Forge still has her beat, due to being around much longer, if nothing else. If people are losing all their gold over this boss, it’s a good sign that it’s better to not try at all.
I guess that makes sense, despite the fact that these are easy enough to get anyways without exploiting. Probably also the reason they can’t be sold off either. Still, just makes it a waste of space for me.
Remember, this is a thread for those who’ve given up on fighting Liadri the Concealing Dark, not for those who have beaten her. There’s one for that already.
The balloon operators have been letting Inquest onto the balloons, and the Inquest then teleported the Aetherblades in. And they could still be doing so even now!
It saddens me that somehow, others will take something meant to be good and make it detrimental.
Well… (raises hand) I just throw away the tickets whenever I get them.
The Pavilion, while fun at first, gets dull if I stay too long. Because most of the enemies are veterans, and clumped together, you have to have at least a few others with you or join the “zerg” to farm effectively. Even then, it just becomes a mass of FPS drop and culling, and I can’t tell what’s targeting me sometimes.
(edited by Nilkemia.8507)
I know..but it’s amusing and yet sad just how incompetent they can be at times.
No picture of this, but during a fight with one of them in Fireheart Rise, the champion was in a Blood Legion camp, provoking 3 or 4 of them while fighting me.
And from that day onward, the Queen’s champions were barred from hanging out in the Legions’ camps.
Please, please, please change the tokens back? Or change the token rewards to at least be proportionate to the difficulty/length of each path.
“No no no! We should go to the armory. That’s where the dungeon design team is likely to be!”
Elsewhere..
“Um…Aetherblades are attacking your balloon. Will you help me stop them?”
“(Yawn)”
“…No? Fine, I’ll do it myself then.”
“Excuse me, do you have a moment?”
“No I don’t have a frakking moment! Do you not see these—”
“Here, over here!”
“Death, good!”
A few minutes earlier, I was checking the combat log out of curiosity while fighting Earth Elementals, and noticed that their crippling earth move is called “Fireball” in the log.
Sadly some of the choices in the story missions (particularly the early ones) don’t really make much sense, or usually don’t give a good explanation as to why we can’t do both.
Woah..really? What’s going on here?
While there are/were champions in story missions, they seemed to be scaled down. Basically veterans with a few extra moves. But then again, the last time I played story mode was way back before the Zephyr Sanctum stuff..so maybe something changed..
Bumping again! For Great Justice and bootleg red Mystic gear! We want answers!
It has encouraged dungeon diversity, it’s actually quite profitable to chain the easy paths from every dungeon.
If you’re the type of player who just does CoF1 once, then logs off because mean old Anet ruined your easy gold farming (which has just been moved to Cursed Shore btw), then I don’t really know what to say.
The only thing is that within guilds now, if you miss player prime time you’re not going to be able to put a group together because there’s just no replay value for the other members. And even if token rewards were fixed but the gold reward was left account bound, I still wouldn’t rerun a path on an alt, because more profit can still be made elsewhere (unless of course I desperately needed tokens from that dungeon.)
Well, I’m not one of those. If anything, I’m more of a Crucible of Eternity all paths runner. Sorta. I just liked a lot of the Inquest gear, so I needed lots of tokens, though I did run other dungeons every now and then, with the exception of Caudecus Manor and Arah, mainly because the gear from those dungeons didn’t appeal to me and the runs I did of those places left a bad impression.
I should point out that this is about the tokens, not the gold, because there are other ways to get gold. I’m concerned about the tokens which you can only get from running these particular dungeons, because there’s still quite a bit of dungeon gear I want to get for my characters, and this has slowed that down greatly.
I have a feeling this is going to be the next TA F/U, except this one has a better reason to complain about
Heh, sorry about that. Though, before this change, you could just do the other 2 paths and switch alts, so I didn’t understand all the threads about that path in particular.
A. This is the 100th post about this topic, probably could have avoided this thread altogether and just posted in one of those threads.
B. More importantly, ANET doesn’t read the dungeon forums anymore so your are wasting your time.
Well, it was better than not trying at all. And this is something that most posters hare seem to no like at all. I’ll just try a different section.
We’ve already got a few dungeon bosses (Alpha, Lupicus, the Spider Queen, the Nightmare Tree’s Fyonna mode, etc.) that punish you for making mistakes. Any fight with a champion solo punishes you for making mistakes (The Champion Risen Abomination comes to mind particularly, but this does more or less apply to any champion.) This fight goes beyond that. “Punish” doesn’t even feel like a strong enough word for this.
What you’ve basically said, is that for content to be hard, it has to kill you off in cheap ways, be utterly unfair, frustrate people and discourage them from playing it and/or bringing out the worst in them in the process if they continue. They should basically expect to die however many times to figure out the patterns, like I Wanna Be The Guy, or any those other painfully hard games. Hard does not equal fun. And if it isn’t fun, I don’t think it should continue to spread here.
This token change actually makes me not feel like running dungeons.
I think they should fix the problems with the ones they already have first, before making more. Still the idea of having lots of potential paths in a dungeon would be a nice way to keep them fresh, although I’m uncertain if they could follow through on that.
