“We just don’t want players to grind in GW2” – C. Johanson
“The most important thing in any game should be the player” – R. Soesbee
I post because I enjoy interacting with the community.
This topic is a request for economic data – from you specifically, and after 10+ postings, you still have yet to address the point of the thread, in ANY form of a response. In case you haven’t noticed, the economy has been a bit of a sore topic for a multitude of people of late, but given the fact that you’re GW2’s resident economist, it’s understandable that it may have slipped your attention.
No one is upset that you won’t provide the requested data; it was after all, just a request. People are upset because with each additional post, you flat out ignore them – for reasons that are beyond me. It’s belittling. Instead of a polite “no”, or even an “I’m not sure if I can, I’ll get back to you” which would take all of two seconds to post, and do wonders for improving ‘communication’ on Anet’s part, you choose to continue with off topic posts in what almost seems like an attempt on your part to purposely aggravate people.
Macroeconomists don’t care for the plight of single individuals. If 10.000 people have 10g each and 10 has 10.000g, the average is still only 20g, nothing to see there, move along.
I don’t know why people here think they know more about the economy than an economist.
Because there is only 1 economist in the world right (Mr. Smith..heh I always remember the Matrix after that)?
Or are we (economists) banned from playing games in your mind?
Anyway, Smith is right, he does have the most complete data of us all. From that statement, one can extrapolate that the market is where they want it (go grind scrubs if u want stuff, flip TP or buy mah gemz). If it’s not, they’re slow at fixing stuff (idk, drop rates). Either way, it’s not a pretty situation.
As for my personal opinions about TP and prices, it’s biased on the fact that I hate griding and I don’t want to play a game which reminds me of work and I hate people that use other ppl for their own gain.
If in market A the thingies are 47 coppers for the trader, I fail to see why in market B you’d get them for less. Unless the consumption is higher due to lower prices, but, with As higher prices the consuption would be lower, so you’re actually depriving people of the gizmos (due to your profit and reselling tax) and ofc the stock remains (ya know, the supply and demand graph – draw it, and then adjust it for the reselling tax and ur profit then think on it why it will fluctuate – or should without outside intervention with intent to change prices).
If market was left alone (which atm pretty much isn’t coz of so many traders/flippers so it’s kitten hard to estimate the real amount of anything just based on the TP when ppl have boatloads of everything stashed away) it would reach equillibrium alone….if prices were high, ppl would farm. If prices were low, ppl wouldn’t farm and prices would rise. Btw, ppl started manipulation of prices in 2nd week after start (that I saw) so whatever prices are now, they’re not freely established for plenty of things, there’s also the cascade from ppl that manipulated, earned a lot, bought idk what 2.000 rares to throw in to forge…or 250 charged lodestones each to make legendaries and what not thus raising prices and making them more unaffordable. Not to mention, standing in LA for hours per day would mean a LOT of materials if doing pretty much anything else thus increasing supply on the market and actually help lowering the prices.
As for the lower money supply and blabla…no, common person has less, trader has more, and some gets eaten by system. All it does is transfer wealth on expense of the final buyer. If it was a state tax it would be a tad different, since that cycles back in to the system albeit inefficiently. Simple check: how does trader make money (assuming 100% just playing TP)…by trading, who then pays for his wealth (assuming successful trader)…yeh, the final buyer…no buts and ifs about it.
Ty for being such a samaritan, but just be honest, you’re doing it for your own gain, don’t disguise it as some act of charity.
Oh and lol at the person, we play as we want hurr. Yeah, manipulation of TP affects everyone that uses it…so it’s not that you play how you want, it’s that it affects other ppl (economic griefing? ). If that was valid excuse there would be no such thing as banning/warning ppl for griefing other ppl…hey, I play as I want, too bad it affects that dude if I call his mom my (insert profanity that offends the dude deeply) or loltroll my team in sPvP, or waste supply/siege cap in WvW or whatnot…
Meh, why do I even bother.
They are Canadians thats why they are upset
Nah, French ppl just start to play later at night, after 23:00-24:00 GMT…there are no Canadians on the server, only insomniacs that have fun capping stuff at night!
Or just ban the country IP the exploiter is from, bam, soon no more xploiter problems.
….while the GW2 Economy is young we expect to maintain a high level of equality.
Ahhh, that bit cranked me up. Good one John, good one. Except pretty minor things you’re not doing that much. A pretty graph might convince me otherwise (list the gold of the top 20 or 50 wealthiest accounts also, for the lulz).
He’s not saying there’s no endgame grind, he’s saying grinding (killing mobs) is a crappy way to level, which is pretty much true, specially alone.
It can be, the truth is that the Guild Wars 2 support either does not fully understand what happened, or they do not care about really delivering justice to the players they have banned.
The criteria for ‘knowing’ it was wrong was only the amount of salvages you do. As a player who does 100+ rare salvages a day as a way to make money it seems like this is one of the worst ways to suggest a player is knowingly taking advantage of an exploit.
At this point you have to look at profit margin and say well ok that has to be how a player knows it’s an exploit. Sadly the profit margin was only about 5 silver after snowflakes had reached 30 silver. This was only 2 silver better than the normal rare crafting market profit.
So, if someone found a dodgy way to create Dusks for 10 gold and when it became public knowledge the Dusk prices would go down to 11 gold it would be no exploit because hey…he makes no profits anymore? Yeah…sure.
Yeh I suggested this even before the launch of the game and a few times since then, but well…they do their own thing.
I’m hatin’ on culling more and more, specially when ppl get yelled at for not following…yeh, can’t see enemies, can’t see friendlies, 100 ppl around me and I’m all aloneeeeee hahah.
So many players hate free trade…a sad reflection of society today.
Buying and reselling doesn’t really fit the free trade coz everyone has access to that same exact trading post. It’s called speculation.
I’d say it would be similar if there were 10 ppl standing in a store (like only store in a 500km radius), watching what ppl buy, then go and buy all the milk/medicine/whatever and sell it in front of the store for double the money and say they’re doing the world a favour by distributing milk to the needy (I call them by some other name, not free traders).
IF those ppl went and made their own milk and sell it in front of that store…that’s a different story.
Yeh if you lower the damage, then the skill become pretty useless, mobile or not, becomes similar to autoattack dmg, only better for on-hit procs perhaps, since it has many hits.
I’d like to see some skill that gives protection or transfer boons from enemy or conditions to enemy, that’d be sweet….“bunker buster”: transfer all enemy boons to yourself (evil laugh)
Meh, they don’t even need to make new classes, just put up a “costume” or a special weapon set at the start of an instance that has some leet heals skillset and voila, instant healer for whomever wants to heal.
sigh So. Tired.
If you never had this problem then please roll a Thief/ele, and go to Orr, and solo it.
Also I want you to video tape that, because I will not believe you otherwise.
Meh, was there with elementalist when pretty much noone was around and yellow gear was a luxury, and guess what, could do it all (had troubles with 1 skillpoint, coz all statues were active). Sometimes it was annoying, I died now and again (overpulled + no vit/tough gear = 3 shots and dead) but still, no biggie.
Next time it was on warrior (easymode compared to ele), can’t see how to die on normal mobs…worst case I’d just run away if they zerged me or something (normal mobs die in 1 HB anyway).
So really, gameplay wise Orr areas aren’t that hard. They can be annying but idk, dying seems something you really shouldn’t do. But all in all, Orr zones suck, same enemies, crappy colors, same events, Arah instance is yawn…
tbh the whole MF thing is kinda funny id rather they leave MF and just add a preview option for armor, MF is just a thing for bad players to blame so they don’t have to hurt their precious egos and the “Confessions of a MF leecher” kinda made me laugh how do we know its not someone who hates MF and has just made a post claiming to be a MFer? i run MF alot in dungeons with my guild and i certainly do not get a extra 60% loot over them. Id take a Competent MFer over some newb who runs full zerker gear anyday
Well I agree that a competent person with crap gear (MF or whatever) is better to have than a player who is an liability and is dead 80% of the time. But for example, fractals, if u pug them for idk, daily, you just want em done fast and be on your merry way. If you have players that gimp themselves purposefully that means all the rest have to do a bit better (assuming average skill – not “encounters are a breeze” kind of party) to compensate.
——
And for all the ppl that said it doesn’t make a noticeable time difference…even if it makes a 10 second or 1 minute difference that’s nuff for me. 1 minx3 times per dayx1month=90minutes…that dude with MF cost me 1,5h of my life per month (ok, was extreme assuming I’d get one every time and pugging all 3 dailies but still, point stands, kitten adds up if ppl aren’t performing as well as they could).
Where does the Necro need work?
1.) Minions. While I don’t agree that we are “pet class,” minions are clearly not doing everything they should be right now. A lot of the problem is the AI. Minions are 100% useless when they aren’t attacking anything. There’s also the issue that most of them aren’t valuable even if they work. Blood Fiend, Bone Fiend, and Shadow Fiend never enter my skill bar. Then there’s player expectations. I don’t think we will ever see a “minion master” build be very good. I think minions were designed to be used 1 or 2 at a time to help out other builds, not to be the focus of a build themselves. I hope I’m wrong about that, but I doubt that I am. Even with all these issues, Flesh Worm and Flesh Golem are in my sPvP build and I’ve found them to be worth keeping.
Well if you look at how many traits there are for minions I kinda doubt they’re all there to just use on 1 pet and lose on other traits coz of that 1-2 pets. So on that count I’d say you’re wrong, pet master was intended to be a viable build, otherwise you’d just have pets with hardly any traits to buff them if they were meant as a minor support for other builds.
Anyway, besides the crap pets, necros aren’t half bad. Maybe they need a tad of changes here and there, but they’re not as bad as OP makes them to be.
I have seen like 3 or 4 pre-legendary weapons drop in about a month, and that’s just my guild.
I don’t think those are lame items?
I get rares and exotics often, you prolly are just not lucky?
Guess it’s just the objective, I play because I like to break some heads, some play for the loot.
Well none of the people from my guild ever got one precursor, and we’re in WvW a lot. I can get 100 badges in 3-4 hours no problems, but item loot is utter crap, rares drop…well, very very rarely, and since the headstart I personally only got 2 exotics as a drop.
You’re right, for some WvW is just extra, but for ppl that don’t PvE that loot and few silvers from taking stuff is their main income. Now go buy dem golems and upgrade stuff with it + make superiors.
I’ll say what I say to others,
MF gear doesn’t reduce your damage significant enough to lets say “significantly slow down your run”.
MF gear reduces your survivability so if you’re dying heaps then yes you’re slowing the run down for your teammates, but if you know timing and the dodges and you’re not the one downing all the time then you’re not being a liability.
Player skill and non-communicating players are the real culprits of inefficient runs.
You have to assume all things equal (player skill, builds etc) with only difference being gear or the comparison between MF and non-MF gear is moot.
As for the speed of the runs…yeaaaah, you’re wrong. Take my stats for example:
MF gear: pow-2942, 34% crit, 52% crit dmg.
Non-MF: pow-3389, 44% crit, 116% crit dmg.
Using the formula from maddoctor and axes I use: Damage done = (weapon damage) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)
MF: 952*2942*1/2600=1077
Non-Mf: 952*3389*1/2600=1241
MF crit: 1077*1,52=1637
Non-MF: 1241*2,16=2680
Average MF: 1077*0,66+1637*0,34=1267
Average non-MF: 1241*0,56+2680*0,44=1874
So the BASE difference on my gear is 47,8% more DPS with damage gear.
Now, if I take in to account that I have perma fury (20% more crit), sigil of bloodlust, banner of discipline (10% crit dmg – perma on most bosses), self might of 5-8 stacks AND those stats for MF are from beserker weapons (so if I took MF weapons even less dmg right there)…the difference starts becoming ridiculously high even before accounting for other ppls buffs (mmm, dat timewarp and guardian quickness+might)…those axe autoattacks go up to 4,6-5k per crit hit.
Now, think of the same 5 ppl with MF gear and 5 ppl without. Massive massive difference in speed.
I just now completed mine as in 2 minutes ago and got the usual Karma Jug/Mystic Coin + Black Lion Salvage Kit. I would say its unchanged.
Usual…what do you mean usual?
I haven’t gotten 1 BL kit from daily in the past 2 months.
Their “client” is any player with a wallet (all of them). They’re in it for the moolah, and doing what they can to make us pay them for their hard work (or lack thereof, etc). RNG sucks, but it does in RL too. I’ve never heard about people complaining that the odds of winning the lottery are too low, even though they constantly, consistently dump wads of cash into it and gain (often) nothing in return. Such is the roll of the dice.
Lottery you know the odds, understand it’s a utterly hopeless long shot, one dollar for millions in return and REAL money. Totally different than a game imo, much different. Tons of games do RNG, but it’s a small list of RNG, that list from top to bottom, the goods are close in value and not usually something worth 1 cp to something worth 400gp. This game is like the entire loot table is open for roll on every drop. Except that one dungeon where it has things the other 99.999% of the game doesn’t have.
I’m not debating the fact that the RNG in this game is terrible; I never was. I’m simply saying that expecting randomness to be anything but random is foolish and a waste of time.
“RNG sucks, but it does in RL too. I’ve never heard about people complaining that the odds of winning the lottery are too low, even though they constantly, consistently dump wads of cash into it and gain (often) nothing in return.”
People don’t complain about the real lottery because it’s not virtual made-up cash, it’s real. Every dollar goes to the pot, there is no magic etc. The odds have to be sky high because in the end the money has to be there and face it, people want the huge payout, which makes the odds crazy. Numbers wise it’s the same, but how it plays out and expectations, is just a totally different thing between the two, imo of course.
So many ppl are fond of RL examples.
Maybe a better comparison for you would be: You go to work, and in the end of the month employer would give random stuff instead of pay, most often worth a McDonalds cheeseburger, but, hey, you’d have a 0,000001% chance of getting an apartment. Would that be cool? I’d go and make a company like that in a second, it’s practically free slave labour made out of ppl who want an apartment.
The alternative would be, you go and pick up cans on the street (grind) and sell them till you get an apartment, or get on the gravy boat with some criminal activity (exploitin’ yo) or scalping ppl for cheeseburgers/cans (kinda like TP).
Sorry for cutting some stuff out, too long.
GW2 is a game. The TP is part of the game. It also has gameplay.
- Metric for success (Gold, Valuable Items)
- Decisions (What to buy? When to buy/sell? What prices?)
- Competition.“Making gold” is a competitive game.
Well sorry, some of us didn’t come to play economy wars. Some high prices are a combination of rarity, diminishing returns and player manipulation. So OP has some merit. And I believe that the main complaint is crazy prices not being poor.
As for DR, farming is gameplay. Why do people feel “entitled” to a certain drop rate? If we want to talk about real life, if you cut down trees all the time, eventually there won’t be any left. There’s no god-given law saying that drop rates have to be constant or high or even fair. It’s gameplay – there are mechanics, and those that take best advantage of those mechanics will have the greatest success.
DR was implemented out of the blue after launch. It doesn’t really fit with the statements of the devs (our game is about fun and nongrindy hurr – check my sig). And your statement about RL is really inappropriate, what trees, it’s pixels, unlimited pixels. Why the need to be constrained by same things as in RL? Why the need for massive time/gold sinks (go farm charged lodestones for example…)-
Oh sure, you can accept the game as is, or you can leave it. But if it was bought under premise of being different, you kinda expect something different. I (and many others) expected low grind + wide variety of stuff to do/get….see, timewise it can be the same, only in 1st case, you grind your kitten off for 1 item, in the other, you get multiple items/titles/whatevers….guess which kind would most people (that I know) prefer.
How exactly do you think companies raise money to fund growth and create jobs? They release stock is how. After taking that investors money that you think produces nothing and creating jobs and a product they make profit, which then gets paid as a dividend to the shareholder.
Seriously, learn a bit about a subject before you try to bash it from your false moral high ground.
Omg how exactly do they fund and create jobs, because there are only stock markets and nothing else. All those companies that aren’t on the market exist since the dawn of time and stagnate.
Anyway, stockmarket is in theory a good idea but as usual, greed ruins it. Investor expectations and pressure, profit orientation even on expense of employees and long-term growth, short term speculation (go do some research how much of the stock market volume is being generated by bots. Do you think bots care for the companies and their wellbeing? ), statements padding, insider trading…need I go on? Do you even realise how much crap is being done to manipulate stocks/statements (can include commodities markets here also, and hey, let’s throw in some forex while I’m at it altho that’s harder to manipulate, but it can be done) that never becomes public knowledge?
Gift of mastery isn’t RNG at all. Gift of fortune is RNG personalized. Gift of Legendary X is gift of Farming.
Gift of Mastery has no RNG components? 500 WvW badges. You will face RNG with those no matter how you try to get them. Even the jump puzzle you have to face RNG.
How do you get the karma or fractal relics for the obsidian without RNG?
How do you get the exp for the skill points without RNG?
How do you explore the entire world without encoutering the RNG?
You cannot swing your sword, loot or salvage an item, play a DE, or interact with anyone without enountering a RNG. It is everywhere. People only complain when the odds of a desired outcome are low. The fact that the result is random doesn’t bother them until they don’t want to pay the price. If it wasn’t random, the complaint would be that the price is too high.
When people speak of RNG they usually mean small chance/wildly different results.
When I swing my sword, my damage does not vary from 0-zomg1hitKO.
When I spend 1 hr killing stuff in WvW, I can expect a decent return on my time/badges (unless I’m alone in the tower scouting/guarding…then I expect nothing).
Skillpoints RNG…..wait wat. I commune, I get SP. I kill X mobs, I get SP. I do a dungeon, I get Y XP. Controllable and reproducable.
How do I explore a world without RNG? I CAN NOT FAIL TO EXPLORE IT. RNG in this situtation would mean, some people idk 2/3 would fail to complete world exploration…ty come again, pls make new character for your 2 gifts of exploration..
While strictly speaking you’re right, in the spirit of things…well, you’re not. RNG is something that can hinder your progress if you’re unlucky. And yes, I’m cranky because the sweet RNG decided I don’t deserve any mystic clovers (to put things in to perspective: I had 500 WvW badges+100% world+500 tokens + 250k karma at start of 2nd week of game). So yeh, that 0 clovers…fun game design from my point of view.
Actually, it’s better off throwing a mesmer inside for Time Warp.
or 2. In fact, my fastest boss takedown was with 2 mesmers and 3 warriors – it took only ~ 20 seconds to take catgolem in fractals down(the one that spreads poison)
What can be better than a warrior? Time-warped warrior.
Yeh 2-3 full zerker warriors can destroy quite a few bosses in 1 time warp + frenzy. Happy times.
Its not 100% the warrior problem, but it lets other classes kitten you while the warrior just keeps you pinned to the ground 24/7. This game lacks seriously of diminishing returns.
If he has friends, bring your own friends? I mean, you go 1vX and expect to survive or what? (I’m assuming good opponents, keyboard turners don’t count :P ).
Nice thread name btw, you should edit it to: New warrior exploit – they’re using skills other than HB!
Nice thing about GS also is superior mobility, specially with the trait “break immobilise on movement skill”.
Depends what you play anyway, pve, pvp, wvw, instances, different weapons, different strengths.
Stomping is easy if you know what you’re doing… Which you obviously don’t..
Depends on your class and setup, and their class don’t ya think, and the enemies ofc.
But hey, I guess u too pro, can roll everyone without stability, stealth or frenzy, can stomp eles tru mistform, go and stomp in middle of enemies as a ranged character, is there no end to your awsomeness?
Gimme a scythe!
In full zerker set normal mobs in Orr die in 1 hundredblades. I don’t see how you can have troubles. Compared to berzerker staff ele it’s a friggin tank with better damage heh.
In full defensive set 2-3 mobs can’t outdamage the self-regen if you move just a little bit (you know, big red circles, telegraphed knockdowns, stuff like that). With omnomberry bar and slight modifications to increase crit chance… again, dunno how could you ever die.
If you have 1.000 members, each member gives 1gold=10 new commanders.
Enjoy your rest
Cool story bro, tell us more how ppl engaging in these activities magically create money from thin air to now have tens of thousands of gold from the margins (it seems they don’t get it from other players from what you’re wrote). Not to mention every time an item is bought/resold tax eats even more money, which costs the final buyer of an item more and it appears to benefit the buyer that he pays more…wut? Even without flippers market comes to an equilibrium based on supply and demand so no idea how you can claim reselling does that if it happens automatically + you don’t put a single extra item on the market.
As for the mystic forge part, I’d agree. If you can buy cheap things and make more pricey ones that’s adding value. Simplistically: mystic forge=buy ore, forge sword, valued added. Flipping=buy ore, sell ore for tax+margin to make money. Can you seee the difference?
market manipulation.
… well that’s unfortunate that the head Econ guy doesn’t see “Flipping” as Manipulation.
I’m just curious what else you’d call it when the entire point is to manipulate the final sales price for a bigger profit on something that would have been a lot cheaper if there was no short-term speculating middlemen driving up the prices.
Flipping an item lowers its price – if an item is flipped often enough the buy and sell orders will be within coppers of the 15% charge for using the trading post.
1) Holy moly, necro.
2) Hahahah yea, flipping lowers the price, that’s why ppl do it, to LOSE money.
Flipping, cornering, scalping, whatever the market manipulators do or however it’s called, it’s being done to make money. That money has to come from somewhere, namely other players. And that money also has to cover the 15% reselling tax + margin and that is the loss a player incurrs if he buys from the manipulator instead of the original seller.
And JohnSmith…so easy to check if anyone is manipulating stuff… just check players who have 5.000-10.000g+/gazillion gems and their actions. So hard right? I know, I feel your pain at losing 1hr to do it.
Nerfing thieves has pretty much been the answer to everything. As far as I can tell there hasn’t even been an honest attempt at balance. Only random cuts to whatever other players are complaining about.
Downed state (which was taken from us for being imba, but then given to Mesmers?), Heartseeker, Pistol Whip, Backstab, Basilisk Venom, Dancing daggers, Whirling axe bundle and a few I am sure I am forgetting. And each of those things had substantial risk involved on the thief’s part, and legitimate strategies to counter. But instead of expecting players to elevate their game, or adapt,Thieves just get a baseball bat to the knees.
Meanwhile other classes have safer methods of delivering the same amount or more of direct burst damage and go untouched.
But wait…Scorpion Wire range increased from 900 to 1200! Because that’s what every Thief player has been begging for and makes everything better.
I honestly think that Anet isn’t sure what they want the thief to be or how it fits into the game anymore.
Totally agree. Surely Anet is planning to delete this class.
They have no idea of what they are doing IMHO… We got nerfed about everything. They make the elem even more powerfull as it is and surely they dont plan to nerf warriors. Next patch : – Thief cannot stealth more than 3 seconds every minute – Elem’s Water spells heals for 50% HP with total damage immune – Warriors get defy pain every time they do critical hit.
That’s how Anet is attempting to balance the game ! The thing is whiners will keep crying because Anet cant upgrade their own skill.
Thieves were insanely buffed before the game shipped. In beta everyone complained thieves suck. So the buffs were made WITHOUT TESTING, yes, kneejerk reaction buffs. They’re trying to bring it inline with other stuff…are they suceeding…not exactly. I said again and again, you don’t nerf for insane amounts like 50% and kitten, but they don’t listen.
On your elementalists get more and more powerful…I can just lol. You serious?? How, gimme evidence. They nerfed the bunkers, nerfed tornado, don’t get me started on how ele was in betas… They fixed few skills (fixing skills that benefit eles usually so they don’t benefit anymore heh). Scepter and staff are kinda useless in sPvP compared to daggers (woo, 1 weapon ele can use with success), elite skills suck. Oh…and ele downed state went from 100% free stomp to useful…you referring to that zomg so gamebreaking buff?? As far as I’m concerned thieves still have more builds that are successful than ele in sPVP, feel free to prove me wrong since I admit i’m not most knowledgeable in that regard (been slacking since crapoween event).
Anet nerfs drop rates, includes diminishing returns (random, not explained exactly how it works except in vague terms), nerfs drop rates a bit more. Bans bots, does not increase drop rates… ahh, perfect troll
Anway, it’s useless to complain about bots one way or the other. Drops rates are controlled by Anet. If (for example) lodestones and dye drops are crap…it’s Anets drop rates, not the botter ones. So better make a post with stuff listed that you want to see dropped more often and title it: Anet, raise drop rates for X items nao!
Me and my guildie run full zerkers with ruby orbs+frenzy. We don’t even have condi removes xcept heal or any planned synergy with the rest of the guild group and stuff dies in instances friggin fast. I have every weapon+defensive set with soldier runes but meh…1/3 of damage so /care, we want to do the instances fast not 100% safe. So, hate on players being bad, not the gear choice being bad.
Want to see what goes down fast? Glass cannon thief that isn’t played good, 1hit KO.
Hm, difference. When I run full defensive build with soldier runes…HB does under 10k dmg, full berserker HB does 20-26k (could go tad higher, don’t have +10% dmg on bleed). So for dungeons, if you manage to survive, go more dmg, faster runs are always nice. If you get downed a lot, then add defense. Simple.
Most alarming to me however is the forums themselves. I cannot speak for other players, obviously, but I myself come to the forums to see get information on the game, to find news, and to keep current on the happenings in the game. But all I see is a sea of unhappy players, most with pretty valid concerns (Like where is the rewards told to those disconnected during lost shores that was used to soften the rage at how that was handled?
I’m guessing majority of players don’t go to forums and post how happy they are with the game if they enjoy it. That’s why it’s kinda easy to assume that most ppl are unhappy. I’m not saying the state of the game is ok, just sayin’ it’s not THAT bad…yet.
…from my 200+ man guild (32 got a precursor,19 got 2 precursors and 5 very lucky players got 3.)
And another nail hammers home into the coffin that was GW2!
Thank you, your helping my mental dilemma of “should I return & hope it all turns out ok?”.Funny how people instantly accept such claims without hesitation, even if this was true, it’s pure coincidence. And everybody had the same chance.
And why should people care they had the same CHANCE to get idk 3 precursors when they got none? (inb4 entitlement arguments: it’s just bad design for a 1 time event that was also buggy/laggy/whatever). Stuff like that makes more ppl unhappy than happy me thinks, and it’s my feeling designers should work to make more ppl happy than unhappy (you know, happy ppl play the game, buy gems, unhappy ones leave).
Stopped for 2 weeks to finish my degree so I didn’t experience the event nor did I do any fractals yet (so yeah I’m, lv1 or whatever noone wants in a group judging by the forums).
Anyway, past few days I can’t even find the motivation to log in (sadly in this time I was reading the forums and got infected by gloom :P ). Yay, massive grind for gear. Yay for a dungeon the excludes ppl via some stupid levels. Yay for my idea I’ll have all toons lvl80 and geared. Yay for crappy class fixes, nerfs and stuff still broken from beta. Yay for stupid RNG and DR.
Oh no, 1 less thing to farm/save money for, what o what will I do with all my spare gametime now? BTW if I think back to all my previous games and GW2 I doubt I can remember a dozen people that enjoy farming or thought that being able to farm for countless hours is any indication of how pro/entitled you are to something. I’d rather see that stuff would be gotten by skill or if I have to grind that it’s something grindy that is at least a bit fun (idk a fun instance I can repeat only once per day) not a major borefest (aka killing mobs for hours and hours, getting shafted by DR, RNG, etc).
Besides, there has to be a baseline on what you consider an average player of the game. If there’s 10 ppl crying how game too easy coz they can play 24/7 (figuratively) I don’t think that’s a good indication what majority of players want (most of whom prolly don’t even use forums).
P.S. Go count threads with “too much grind” in them as opposed to threads “not nuff grind”.
So basically, if you want to grind, feel free to get all legendaries you can use and ascended stuff for all your toons, that should keep you occupied for a while.
For glass canon you will need atleast 30 in water, 20 in air or you will be wasting your time.
Glass canon also needs you to stack precision. Get pies.
You will also need to master ele burst combos and learn not to get upset if you die alot.
I’d say less water more fire/arcane for glass cannon. Anyway, I ran around with 30/20/0/020. If you don’t care for blasting staff and bit longer boons and better attunement recharge then I’d go with 10 arcane.
What, you can’t play for 15 hours per day grinding and flipping TP in between? Pfff, it’s obviously expected by the devs to play that long. Unless you get lucky and loot a precursor or two somewhere somehow.
I’d like to correct a common misconception that I see popping up regularly in these threads. The culling that exists in Gw2 today is the same as what we shipped with. It was not introduced after the game launched, but was in fact present on day one. I suspect that people didn’t notice it as much in the beginning due to the game being all shiny and new, but it has been there all along.
I would also like to add a personal observation: I understand that the current state of culling is frustrating. It frustrates us too and we’re working hard to fix it. Often in these threads people propose a variety of options for addressing the issue along with the suggestion that their proposed changes are simple. This is a tempting line of thought but in my experience very little of what goes on in game development is actually simple. In particular, the changes required to deal with culling involve fundamental changes to core systems. Both the changes and the systems involved are complex, which is why it’s taking us so long to implement them. As I hope I’ve made clear in my posts fixing the culling issues is a major focus of the WvW team right now and I firmly believe that we will be able to achieve significant improvements when our current development efforts are complete.
Temporary fix of not loading the models and just loading name tags would help.
I doubt it’s a high resource hog to have a universal nametag for all players of a server (idk blue/red invader, whatever) that is shown instantly if portal/destealth happens, even if you had to spatially track dem nameplates all the time serverwise and send the location as a priority to client (eh, now I’m just making stuff up since I’m not a programmer :P, no idea how that actually works but since other games do it, I guess it’s not hard to do).
Anyway, I’d be happier to fight a nametag than (I’m a melee) tabbing around, spamming 1, and hoping I’ll hit something coz of apparent inability of my way-over-min-spec-comp and your shiney new server to render stuff.
But hey, I said to use that ages ago, so there’s no doubt I won’t get to see even the names any time soon.
I don’t use MF gear in dungeons, nor my groups.Only pugs use MF.
Conclusion don’t pug.Because everyone playing this game has a big active guild and full friends list dedicated to doing any dungeon whenever you want… right?
Who my group is made from guildies lol.My group was made from random people i met while doing stuff in GW2.I become friends with people i meet.It is not a guild group lol
And your friends are always online when you are?
Your friends are always willing to go with you when you want, and on what you want? Or if they ask you to do a dungeon with them, they’ll invite your other friends to join them so you won’t have randoms in your team? And your friends always have time to go with you?If yes on all of these, where can I buy these friends?
Well, you’ll need more than 4 friends so idk 30-ish decently active people on your friends list + guildies = pretty much can get 5 people at all times to do shenanigans with you. If you’re not willing to be social in a multiplayer game…don’t whine about multiplayer content, besides, gaming with people you know (as far as you can know people you meet on the webz) it’s much more fun than dealing with randoms (although it can be fun too, if you get a nice bunch).

Do you think this may become a reality for Elementalists?
Well, thread that was made 1 month ago is surprisingly accurate for the current patchnotes. WHEN DOES IT END Mr. guy-that-does-balacing??? ;D
For WvW I just went with high fire dmg, took utilities for survival and tried not to get in to harms way. Too bad none of the runes I took worked… (3 rune sets 2 runes each, which should increase my might/boon duration – think with traits I should have round +75% might duration, in reality I got 12% which was wierd since lowest bonus was 15% or something…crazy broken), dunno if they fixed it, cba to check and be angry again
All in all, my "OMFG I took more dmg in 1 hit than I have HP " build aka “rage on TS get laughed at” build didn’t get nerfed :P
For PvE I take my tanky warrior and loltroll the mobs, cba to get D/D and do twice the work for less effect, not to mention retraiting all the time if I want to be effective with different weapons/utilities.
The Conjuration Buffs are like finding out your parents forgot to get you Christmas presents, so your dad filled your stocking with pens and notepads he stole from work. kittening thanks!
Ahahah, this one made my day.
P.S. I hate conjured weapons. Thx for giving the class with (allegedly) most skills some skills that enable me to use other skills because original skills suck.
you can try i did it and didnt like it ,i kinda feel forced into 30 arcane due to the long recharge of attment swap and if ur DD u need it swap fast …
My thoughts are similar about arcane, kinda feels like I need to have it, otherwise it’s too long swaps. On the other hand I primarily use a staff and I want to have AOE area increase trait so I take 20 arcana anyways.
I feel if attunement recharge was always idk somewhere around 5 seconds with no traits to reduce it, it would be fine. We’re limited by long CDs anyway on some skills so faster swapping could potentially increase build options and enhance gamplay. Best case scenario would be engineer kits style, no CD on attunement swapping, skill CDs are still there so you can’t spam anything anyway + having all skills available all the time would mean you could use low CD skills at any time as appropriate and not have to worry being locked out of an attunement. Ofc that would mean a bit of a rework of traits that trigger on attunement swaps.
ALSO, -TWO- people working on profession balance is completely unacceptable. Even if these two are robots and work 24/7 they wouldn’t be enough to cover the huge about of skills/traits/profession/playstyles. It totally makes sense why Elementalists (staff in particular) have been garbage since release. It’s why my girlfriend (I bought the game to play with her) completely quit the game.
Two people should be more than enough. Problem is SMART balancing. You can have 100 people doing it, but if they’re clueless what good does it do?
Two hours a day is 2 TV shows. You’re telling me most people in the world are unable to watch 2 TV shows in one day because it’s a hardcore time commitment and they have lives?
I have played plenty of MMO’s with adult, working people, many of whom were married and/or had children. You don’t have to be “people without jobs and students neglecting their classes” to play an MMO for 2 hours.
2 hours of gamepley does not equal 2 hours of pure borefest that is grinding money/karma/whatever. As in, there are other things to do in the game. In your TV show analogy: watching the same two hourly episodes, every day, for months…sounds like fun?? You’d have to be pretty nuts for those 2 episodes to watch them every day again and again. This is what grinding is, like watching same stuff on TV day after day, so dunno why it’s acceptable for so many gamers and it’s not acceptable in so many other areas of RL.
Two videos that prove you wrong.
Here is me fighting a D/D Elementalist. Just look at all that self-healing, protection, stability, and mobility.
Here’s a video of an Elementalist fighting a zerg. Yeah, she totally dies in seconds. She definitely doesn’t hold off far greater numbers for a really long time, and even get a few kills.
This proves what? 2nd video proves that he’s fighting a bunch of keyboard turning clickers with god knows what builds if anything and the ele has a proper build and a working knowledge of his class.
And most of the time anyone is proving how ele is uber awsome crazy class they put defensive D/D or staff spec as “proof” or D/D with 2 arcane utilities and try to sell it as zomg burst (oh great, have to sacrifice utility slots to achieve similar damage to other classes).
———-
Viable build variety, that’s the problem with eles, but god forbid anyone mentions ele is not 100% ok, coz everything is l2p issue it seems. Oh, and judging by the comments the amount of skills a class has obviously makes it automatically uber hard to play and a better class (go play Aion or something, 4+ skillbars of stuff keybinded).
There is a big problem here:
You can’t actually make money in the game.
Seriously, it’s just not possible. In GW1, you could run UW and FoW and DoA and Urgoz and all that stuff. You could run the elite areas… and it was fun.
Guild Wars 2 just doesn’t have that. If I wanted, I could run heaps and heaps of FoW runs and ACTUALLY GET RICH or have enough money to purchase highend items.
GW2 lacks this. Money making has come down to farm 1 or 2 events in Cursed Shore, which is a problem, because the more people farming it, the less money you make. GW2 just needs a better system to make money.
Or more supply of some things and less moneysinks that hit the people that don’t farm like brainless monkeys 90% of their gametime. If you do stuff that’s fun (I’m disregarding the masochists that think farming for hours and hours every day is fun) you’re at a money loss (specially true in WvW if you buy siege a lot and play a semi-suicidal melee) or very minor profit.
Anyway, everyone defines fun their own way, but if there’s people quitting coz of boring repetitive farming, unrewarding instances, RNG, DR and what not, all is not well in the land of Tyria. And I’ve seen a quite a few ppl quit by now unfortunately.
As for the market shifts. Say hi to insider information, the traders god.
