sephiroth: the screenshot seems to show only the use of “ctrl” key which shows all the names.
And control won’t give you information THAT far either.
Static kind of is synonymous with electrical charge, isn’kitten
So by that reasoning Electric part is implied.
wiki says it does:
Using the trait Elite Supplies or Potent Elixirs increases Tornado and Whirlpool duration to 18 seconds, and increases Rampage and Plague duration to 25 seconds. Using Elite Supplies and Potent Elixirs in conjunction does not increase the time further.
This skill’s recharge time is affected by Fast Acting Elixirs.
Tested it recently, I will check again tomorrow.
The Megaserver has solved any and all population problems that existed a year ago.
MORE than enough people to make your PC lag no matter what specs!
Honestly, I think a completely unexpected race is a possibility, since there’s sort of a hint of a race (Mursaat, maybe? Their home is supposed to be deep in the Maguuma…), but I doubt it’ll be Tengu just yet.
Soooo the mursaat came back in total secrecy over the last 250 years without anyone knowing of their existence?
I doubt.
Not to mention, as far as we know, there is only 1 left.

Seems the 80s are coming back?
I connect with this. This is me.
I tried very hard to block Mariah from my mind. Thanks for that! :O
Humans are a lot more “sexist” than the other races.
Men and woman perform different roles because of dogma.
Asurans are all equal in task and duty.
Same goes for char since the flame legion was rejected.
But yes, some differentiation would be nice.
Sorry some of your responses came as I was typing my last response. Thanks for your quick replies.
What are the advantages of the other armor classes that heavy doesn’t have?
Really, just ignore the different armour ratings of the classes. I don’t know what the rationale is, but it really doesn’t matter. Everything is balanced in spite of it.
The rationale is as limited as base vitality and toughness. Which has very little impact in full exotic gear.
Glad you asked!
Mesmers have alternate options via other fields and utilities. For example distortion.
Ele’s and Engi’s have A LOT of blast and blocks.
Thieves have some finishers but A LOT of survival ability via invis, condi clear and vigor and plain old evasion built into a lot of their skills.
Now WvW, specifically zerging, when running in large groups :
Warrior : Great for zerging do to a lot of stability and support skills (buffs and condi removal. more defensive than offensive) that are easy and fast to do. They also have great disable. Decent AoE dps with innate tankyness.
Guardian : More advanced support, geared to AMAZING defense and also decent offence. Great AoE dps as well with very little chance of downing early in the fight.
Very versatile class to have in a zerg as they can do quite a bit on the front line.
Ele : Great AoE DPS backline class and can tank up AMAZINGLY well via shield and immunity to crits. Provides great might stacking via fire fields that the zerg can blast on.
Mesmers : Some more advanced strats via portals (some commies will run a small group of portal mesmers to perform portal bombs or keep sneak attacks) and decent AoE damage, but this class isn’t great for it due to low support potential and low overall AoE DPS and survival ability in a ZERG specifically.
Rangers : Same as above minus the portals.
Thief : MUCH MUCH more of a solo type gameplay with high single, duo target damage, poor AoE, little support potential.
Engineer : This class actually brings quite a bit to the zerg but it has some fundamental problems that kind of pushes it out, however some people still run it successfully.
They have great AoE backline or in the front line, great support potential for both defense AND offence. But generally its hard to do more than 1 of the above, so you choose one and then your limited.
However due to stuff like retaliation, the grenades at range makes it hard for them to do the backline DPS, in the front line their lack of condi clear makes bomb kit useless in zerging.
Feels like I missed a class? LOL Anyway…
HOWEVER VERY IMPORTANT.
Zerging is NOT the only content in WvW.
I am a solo or duo Engineer roamer. The classes that are considered not so great for Zerging ARE actually considered great of running alone and having outnumbered 2 v 1 or even 3 v 1 fights, even more so than the 3 that you were suggested.
For PvP the ONLY class I feel that is not viable to any decent degree is the ranger.
But some people have success with them.
EDIT : I DID FORGET A CLASS!!!!
Necro : TBH i have very little self experience with the necro, however I do know that they used to be great roamers AND zergers, these days the mostly join the zergs for mass disruption and soft CC on the enemy as well as decent support potential, the are a REALLY good front line with amazing tanking potential despite being a LIGHT armor class.

a friend got 5 boxes in a row. he has a total of 6 boxes now.
I got nothing.
something seriously is not right
All is working as intended, your friend is killing the chances for other people by “setting the average”.
Seems like no one understands how RnG and averages work?
Gezus.
Is it THAT hard to put [spoiler] in the title???
Over and over and over and over again.
EDIT : Not to mention the title is a spoiler.

ALL classes are viable, that is just the commonly accepted for pug dungeon running because they are facerole and easy to complete without much coordination.
HOWEVER when it comes to soloing content or pretty much DPS, then all classes CAN and ARE viable.
Interestingly thieves/mesmers and engi’s do better at soloing content because of their EXTREME utility, they deal MORE than enough damage, thief is more single target though.
Damage mitigation is anything from armor, to vitality, to invis, to dodging.
The medium and light armor types actually have better access to blast finisher that can give a lot of things, from more dps to vigor.
So at the end of the day, all classes are equally viable for PvE content.

Mortar needs some major buffing. First of all why is it not considered a turrets for traits?
Supply crate’s turrets are affected by traits as is the elixir X by proper elixir traits.2nd of all what is it with it’s paper defenses? Just one look at that thing (along with stability) screams that it’s one heavy, sturdy piece of hardware. So why it breaks apart so easily? Especially given it’s stationary and cannot be picked up or detonated like a turet for last second advantage before it’s busted to pieces.
What’s with the kittenty range? It’s a MORTAR kitten. It’s my own elite tool for some LONG range death from above for my party. It’s range should be on par with environmental siege weapons. Also the projectiles should move faster. This is not “for fun targeting practice” on renowned heart, it’s an elite. A skill to turn the tide of battle. And here’s the important part for those of a-net devs that missed it:
in my favour, not the enemy’s!
Elixer X is not effected by Traits…
Whats so hard about adding [spoiler] to the title?
The Dominion of Winds is right next to LA as well.
Its close to pretty much EVERYTHING excepting the dragon brand areas.
Nothing you have said even remotely suggests that Tengu could become a playable race.
They are the most likely choice though.

Somewhere a dev said the Riannoc thing was an oversight and it would be fixed later. I don’t know if it was fixed this patch. It wasn’t in the notes I believe.
I’m pretty sure Riannoc is still the first dead, just not so long before the other secondborn as in the last release.
The fix should have gone live with yesterday’s build. Please let us know if the conversation from episode 7 wasn’t updated. Thanks.
Thanks! You really should put these in the Patch Notes. :P
??? What’s that ugliness.
Where are the dragons?
Those are called leggies.
Depends on what you are comfortable with and how you play.
I would say the most common is Nades or bombs/Toolkit/Elixer gun,
alternative : Nades or bombs/Toolkit/Rocket boots.
Obviously condi base with Rabid gear, some people like Rabid with a mix of Dire.
But there are alternatives.
Celestial rifle meta is nice.
I prefer HGH Cele Rifle above it though.
The above is considering ROAMING builds, NOT zerging.
For zerging you do not want to be using condis as your only DPS stat.

Seems the 80s are coming back?
That is strange, my Asura Home instance has Belchers bluff? It annoys me since my Asura is too refined to drink.
Necro/Engi heavy composition = ShoutBow
ANY other comp = HamBow
Although why go meta? Do your own thing…
Report the “bug” IN GAME and on the technical forum. Posting it here will not help.
The players are not in the wrong, ANET needs to fix this.
3. Unlike other types of Elder Dragons
Do you count Glint/Glaust as a minion then?
PONY BOW!!!!
Nothing wrong with the Kudzu, but I do agree more variety of leges are needed.
Although there are a lot of nice skins that are ALMOST as high quality and unique animations that look really great that you can consider.
Personally the only leges that I like the look of AND would use. (Some look nice but thematically I would never use them)
The Predator
The Dreamer (a brony so yeah, lol)
Flameseeker Prophesies
Incinerator
The lege swords are hideously immersion breaking for me, especially with so many running around.
The problem with the forgotten ritual theory is Mawdrey. It seems like Mordrem can actually be trained, in a formative stage, to not be jerks, unless Mawdrey is a joke and not canon.
Maybe the forgotten ritual isn’t needed for them. Unlike any of the other known dragon minions, Mordrem are living things, not magically animated constructs of dead flesh, crystal, corrupted ice, or semi-molten stone. They may naturally have some independent will of their own on that account.
On the other hand, clearly the dragon can corrupt Sylvari who were raised in the Dream. So, presumably, a lot of people are going to be strangled by their backpieces when they head deeper into Maguuma.
LOL not like a lot of people use it, it does not go with a lot of other armor and looks lopsided.
Can not remember when last I saw someone use the skin.
Mordremoth’s announcement was a mess and was never explained in game. Just the image. They formally apologized for it.
As for the rest. I do not know.
There is A LOT of evidence that humans existed on the “planet” before the gods arrived.
is it really that difficult for people to keep track of boons?
Just… don’t attack when retaliation is up?
So we should track 100 odd people’s boons?
If you mean for roaming, then no, there are better alternatives.
No, I don’t see the advantage of going so tanky for roaming purposes—especially with all the Fresh Air abusers floating around. This was purely for zerg consideration.
Hmmm, only if your running dedicated healing stuffs like Elixer gun constantly.
An Ele would benefit more.
Oh yeah, give % of spike damage.
Inb4 why power users have to be punished and condition users to be boosted?
blablabla.Nah it’s fine. L2P.
^this.
Yeah punishing power users is a bad move.
All that is needed is a 2 or even 1 second CD on retal procs.
Can you PLEASE add spoiler to the title and NOT put possible spoilers IN the title?
That would be great.
Hmm…
What if the nightmare isn’t Mordremoth’s corruption per-se but a pseudo-corruption?
Such as Mordremoth trying to take down the barrier of the dream but failing, resulting in a “poison” with corruption-like symptoms tainting the dream.
Which would be the nightmare.Or… maybe something like this. I’m getting too sleepy to figure out the details and I think that’s been enough lore-sub for me today, ahahaha. But that’s an idea.
This is pretty much the way I see it, I think that Mordy is trying every angle to get into the Sylvari “hive” and in doing so is causing a lot of “cracks” like the nightmare court, Aerin, Scarlet, maybe even Caithe’s unreasonable stealing of the egg, that are not necessarily his intention, but he can still access the nightmare court easier than the sylvari protected by The Pale Tree.
Nah it’s fine. L2P.
VERY insightful! Thanks for your valuable input.
Pax, I have no problem with retal and for instance meteor showering zergs. In fact I have less retal damage from the whole meteor channel than one single skill one with my grenade kit.
And this grenade 1 does what, around 1500 damage in total compared to the meteor showers 50k damage?
I agree we cant make something like throw grenades too powerfull, we cant have engi’s shine all of a sudden in WvW group play now cant weThe one grenade*throw* does 1500 damage vs 15 people so 22.5k (15 procs).
and my Meteor shower does 4000 dmg in wvw (8500 in pve) and can give 72 retaL procs, It’s like your 5 grenade skills (75 retal procs) combined then you’ll be doing 5 times 22.5k all of a sudden or 112.5k dmg…So please… Do not compare 1 grenade with 1 meteor shower. Compare 1 grenade throw with 5 fireballs as it does 5 times 1500 dmg vs 3 targets. and will give the same amount of procs: 15.
No my grenades do about 1500 damage in total to everyone, perhaps a little more but not a lot. . I dont have a power build or anything.
Then you’re using a condi build, then know you’re hitting 15 people with a condition at the same time with 4 skills, NO OTHER PROFFESION can match it! NONE!
SO grenades are very strong if not OP, and therefore they are hit hard by retaliation.
Single target condi application :
Engi Pistol 2?
Ele Scepter 2 (I think).
There are quite a few. Just can not seem to think of any now.
But I agree when it comes to condi application, nades can be OP, still not usable with retal though.
Zealotry, which pretty much all Nightmare Court is, isn’t comparable to self driven or to personal aspiration.
I should have expressed myself better I guess.
If you mean for roaming, then no, there are better alternatives.
True.
But there are A LOT of skill changes needed then.
Retal fix vs 40 (sketchy guess) skills needing to be recoded?
Pretty sure ANYONE can realize which would take less resources AND have a more far reaching required change.Well, considering that retaliation influences every skill (including mobs from pve) , it could be possible that you’re better off changing just the 40 skills.
Also what are those 40 skills (just the bulk)? I consider the amount to be around 10 (grenades, flamethrower, ranger longbow come to mind) and not all have to be solved. They can be utility , the rest of the weapon is not that disadvantegious regarding retaliation, the class has no problems with retaliation itself or the class has a viable alternative.
Elementalist has ALOT of skills that proc similarly to nades/ft/LB5.
Lava Font
Meteor as mentioned above.
Pretty much all the signet of storms skills. (Not sure about this).
Warrior Sword adreno skill.
Pretty much any condi proc that does low power damage on hit. A LOT of these, although they are not as problematic as the already mentioned.
Now your making sense…
So by the PC and similar, defeating the dragon, she is “holding back” Mordy’s influence with the sylvari and possibly her OWN self.
But probably still way more in depth than what we will ever hear from ANET writers.
Lets hope I am talking out of my kitten though.
A bit of odd maths, but your reasoning is sound.
However, Might vs Damage procs are not comparable.
There are VERY few sigils with 1 sec internal CDs, you just used the most extreme case that as mentioned is not comparable at all in effect.
Self kill in one volley vs a damage buff sigil. The point is that Retal procs have ZERO CD and ZERO LIMIT, meaning its A MUST have if you want to be competitive in WvW in large groups.
Just the fact that you are forced to have it, makes it clear that its a broken mechanic.
Furthermore the fact that it makes some classes, like Engi’s, not viable in zerging.Yeah the math is shaky and I use an extreme example but it still can have an influence from 6% to 300% depending on the sigil. I also never said that engineers facing retaliation wasn’t a problem. I just claim that the problem in that sceneraio can be solved better by changing the grenade and/or flamethrower kit auto attack.
True.
But there are A LOT of skill changes needed then.

Forum broken again.
The introduction of reward tracks got more people into PvP, but a lot of those (including me!) are mainly there to farm reward tracks, either because they are a faster way to the rewards we want (dungeon skins), or they’re the ONLY reliable way to the rewards we want (e.g. Fossils, the Rime Rebreather). If the reward tracks weren’t there, we wouldn’t be in PvP at all.
Quoted for truth.
I am sure that is how many users STARTED to PvP, but you REALLY get into it after a while.
Sigils have internal CDs, Retal procs do not…
Yes you’re right they have an icd , but since you do more hits/second you will be closer to the icd then with a non muti-proc weapon since you have more chance to proc that sigil which is most of the time based on crit and it has it’s own personal chance modifier. Example a necromancer scepter auto attack chain will on average proc a sigil of strength with 66% crit chance every 3 seconds while grenades with the same crit chance will proc them on average every second.
A bit of odd maths, but your reasoning is sound.

I don’t see a problem with reataliation. The ‘problem’ is the property of the skills used. Most players who complain use engineers with grenades and flamethrowers as an example to justify the need to change retaliation. One problem is that these skills reap the advantages of proc trait, sigils,… but gain the disadvantages of retaliation as it should be. By modifying retaliation you shift the balance in an unfair way.
The second problem is grenades and flamethrowers are the most extreme cases (mass multi-proc auto attacks). Changing retaliation for those skills would make retaliation useless.
So in short instead of changing retaliation change the problem skills.
Sigils have internal CDs, Retal procs do not…
Seems solid. But that kind of makes it hard for the Pale Tree to manipulate “weaker” Sylvari to not be influence by Mordy.
Not shooting you down, just spitballing :P
Awesome! Thanks! Well spotted.
All is viable except for :
“The Pale Tree was getting the Sylvari to suppress the ’Dragon’s Call’ by having them beat down Mordremoth’s influence in the Dream for the Pale Tree. "
Only the PLAYABLE character kills the Shadow of the Dragon in the dream as it is stated to be our yild Hunt, other sylvari have different dreams that elude to their individual Wyld Hunt.
At the time we, as PC, assume that it refers to Zhaitan and not Mordy though.
I agree.
LAND TRIDENT? REALLY now? STAFF kittenit.
pve virgin
Created a new toon?
From the Pale Tree, Rallying Call instance, when playing a sylvari:
“There are those who reject my protection. It leaves them vulnerable in ways they cannot imagine, in ways they never were before. I shield you as best I can and will for as long as I can. "
Those who reject her protection are the Soundless, who have rejected both Dream and Nightmare. I don’t think the exact relationship has been spelled out (although I might be forgetting something), but the Dream is pretty clearly at least the medium through which the Pale Tree extends her protection.
The Nightmare is a corruption of some form within the Dream, which may or may not be connected to Mordremoth. For the time being, however, Nightmare Court sylvari seem to retain more protection than Soundless.
Assuming the nightmare is NOT Mordy related :
Any sort of zealotry tends to make people VERY one track minded.
So the reason for “more” protection on for the Nightmare Court is because they have clearly set motives and aspirations whereas the Soundless just aimlessly do whatever they want.
So, lets get rid of one of the only mechanics thieves and engineers actually have to turn their brains on to deal with?
No.
Hahahhaa you clearly have very little understanding of either class. ESPECIALLY Engineer.
hahahahahhahahahahahahah answers still no hahaha lololol and I couldn’t care less.
So yeah, things relying on fast attacks get nailed hard by retaliation. Wade into layers of retaliation spamming fast attacks, kill yourself.
Sounds like a L2P issue, not a broken mechanic.
And the actually one who need to learn to play here is you.
Your total lack of evidence to sustain your point is …well, rather typical. You don’t like my opinion? Good for you. I see it as neither being broken nor especially in need of any sort of nerf.
Spoiler: I have a thief that I play in wvw. There’s a magic trick to not killing yourself on layers of retal. I’m not going to tell you what it is.
You wanna tell me I don’t know how to play? Getin line – I swear I’ll care tomorrow. Promise.
Lack of evidence? Lol! Read this thread and try to find something.
And your “pro” advice about boon strip too – already answered for this advice. You know what’s pro? Getting good, not crying over a mechanic that’s barely even relevant if you’re not mindlessly spamming things while watching YouTube.
Seriously, some folks on this thread said some well observed things, and you know, maybe some different counters wouldn’t be a bad idea.
But no. Retaliation still has to be worth something in pve, and as it stands, it’s not broken anywhere.
But you’re clearly interested in seeing it balanced for large group PvP only. Have you even vaguely considered what the impact would be on the rest of the game?
Don’t fix what ain’t broke.
If your zerg died repeatedly because of well timed and coordinated retaliation coverage thrown in your faces, get good and don’t let them do that next time.
Or don’t.
Man, I’m not even pro wvw and this isn’t hard. What’s your deal?
Its NOT just large groups.
Period.
So, lets get rid of one of the only mechanics thieves and engineers actually have to turn their brains on to deal with?
No.
Hahahhaa you clearly have very little understanding of either class. ESPECIALLY Engineer.
