Easiest and hardest classes to play?

Hardest i would say would be an angi and easiest necro and its aoe spam. Some may also put ranger as the easiest class (“auto attack some more NERD” is all i get in spvp and its funny as kitten) and with all their passives its kinda true BUT its much easier to be a useful nec than a useful ranger

DirectX 11?

Yes, Witcher 3 does

but again GW2 already looks good

Not sure why you are having such a hard time understanding I could not care less.

Because you’re ignoring the fact that DX11 improves fps. No matter how much you don’t care about graphics, fps in game that runs at 15 in zergs certainly needs it

Also ignoring the fact that most of the benefits of DX11 only benefits people that actually have DX11. The type of people that require Dx11 are generally smaller than the audience that play MMORPG. Besides, DX11 would just be something people like you ignore once you get and promptly go back to random QQing about other stuff.

^dude #9838742 playing on a pc from bestbuy who’ve never played a game in DX11, next

How cute, someone is trying to make a funny.

What you said would be true IF it wasn’t for the fact that I did build my own computer last year (i5 3570k oc to 4.5, nv 670, 8GB ram and blah blah blah, and just for fun bought a 27 inch 2560×1440 Ips monitor). I was planning on going all out with adding another 670, buying 2 more ips screens and bumping up the ram to 16, but I am in then I realize how little I care about graphics and I am out the point where graphics should be secondary to EVERYTHING else. Graphics are the things companies like Crytek use to hide behind their medicore shooter.

With that said, you are right in a way, I do sometimes wish I hadn’t spend that much money on something just to say “Looks nice” then promptly don’t care anymore.

wasn’t trying to be funny, just look at some posts on this thread, people don’t even know what dx11 is while saying “i don’t care about DX11” or “i don’t want it!!!!”. Its impossible to disagree about Crytek and everybody knows this. Just look at how much hate Ryse is currently getting, may have great graphics (i say may because its far from being as impressive as Crysis 3) but gameplay looks like the worst in years. Linear as kitten and on full QTE spam. But that’s Crytek, not every dev puts amazing looking graphics with garbage gameplay. For example, Watch Dogs, The Division, Destiny, MGS5 and TW3 all have great graphics while having some good gameplay (from the looks of it and from playing their prequels) and that’s what im looking for, good graphics AND good gameplay but for some companies that’s too much asking

You seem to misunderstand something or maybe it was my fault that I assume you read my earlier post, so let me spell it out for you.

I don’t mind if Arenanet adds directX 11, but it should be the very last thing on their checklist, after improving other aspects for the game.

The second thing I said is, generally speaking people like you wanting DirectX 11 or at least enough to make a post on the forums are generally the same type that would go “oh look dx11” then promptly go back to complaining about something else. DirectX 11 is nice, but it will be something that nobody bothers to care about in a few weeks.

Just to add all those other examples you gave, they are all nice but we haven’t played any of them to have an opinion on them. Crysis also looked nice and look how that turned out.

This is an old revived thread so if you said something 2 months ago, well, i can’t just remember that. Crysis 1 looked good because previous Crytek game was Far Cry 1 which was good. Crysis 1 came out and lots of ppl liked it and it got really high scores everywhere. It was an okay game for me personally (would give it a 8/10), its the sequels that sucked, and that was seen in reviews as well (especially crysis 3 because all it had is graphics and a cool * bow). Another thing most ppl forget is Crytek is the owner of cryengine, this is why their two latest crysis games looked like tech demos. They may not care as much for their game to sell like a GTA5 would because they showcase their engine and i dunno if you’ve noticed but lots of next gen games and even mmo’s use it now. Crytek games sell their engine that’s why gameplay is ALWAYS shallow, generic and linear but they don’t care because their games look as good as it gets and that makes ppl talk about their games and companies to borrow their engine

I tried double-tap at first, but it didn’t suit how I wanted to play.
Here is my setup.

i use these two for closest/farthest enemy, makes targeting much easier in a game with such a poor click to attack system that doesn’t register your clicks half the time

GW1 to GW2 - Steps Forward and Backward

Guild Wars 1 and 2 are for different peoples.
GW1 = hardcore(thinking) gamers
GW2 = casuals
Simplyfied skills, hundreds of useless skins(especially in pvp which is a joke), PvP is primitive. What’s good about GW2? mostly tank and healer in GW1 were hard to find, in GW2 this problem doesn’t exist, they brought back even more mini games which were great in GW1, jumping puzzles are cool too.

Monks may be gone but Guardians and heavy’s in general are always asked/wanted in high level fractals (the only half challenging part of pve)

Why would you want a Guardian in high level fractals when armor becomes pointless your going to die in 1 to 3 shots even if you have the most armor. I think the closet thing to a monk may be a full support ele or even a full support necro you can kind of make any class in GW2 some what of the monk roll (stander support to support healer).

aoe condi removal and mainly reflection walls. You will never see a pug group doing a lev30+ without at least 1 guardian

Sounds like Mesmer fill this roll better then a Guardian.

i main mesmer and they don’t

Well they have there glimmers that do just what you want a Guardian to do so… Also Mesmer has offhand forces that is anty range attk they have shaders remove condition too. Even an Ele has better aoe condition remove then a Guardian. Though Ele can only destroy ranges attks not bounce them back.

No one is looking for a guardian mainly for condi removals, that’s just a plus. People look for guardians because they have the most reflect walls which are stupidly OP in high level fractals. This will be even more noticeable when they unlock that lev50 fotm barrier and let us go over it. I bet 2 guardians will be the req for any decent lev60+ fractals because it makes THAT much of a difference

Guardians have one wall Mesmer has 2.

Do you have any of the two classes and played for over an hour of each? Have every done fractals and lev40+? You wouldn’t be saying that if you did. Not only guardian has more projectile reflecting/blocking skills that are better but there’s also builds involved. You can’t just spec for glamour, have IC for illusions generation, have good aoe damage, reflect on focus and have Shattered Conditions… we don’t have access to 150 trait points

I am just trying to point out how close minded your being when you say you MUST have one class over another and the reason your using are simply not true. Have YOU tried support Mesmer in fractal? Also you do not have to spec for glamours to make it work.

Temporal Enchanter/Glamour Mastery is the least you can do for feedback to even compared mes reflects to guardian ones. I did multiple runs with 4 mesmers and 1 war (always wanted 5 mes team but there’s always ppl rage quitting because “we’re all squishy and no guardian WTF”) and it was fine but with a good guardian it makes lev48 fractals almost as easy as if you were doing lev10 ones and with a mesmer you can’t do that

See THAT the problem and how all this relates back into this thread its the PLAYERS that are making GW2 seem like its a step backwards from GW1. It may not be the best way of doing something but you CAN do it that is a step forward from GW1 because you NEED class to be a tank and to be a healer.

of course you can do it, you can do it with 5 rangers if you want to, but it won’t be as smooth as a balanced group with reflects. I never cared about if you’re heavy class or not (im normally the person who says “ligh armor+brain>5sig warrior in heavy armor”) but reflects are important and guardian is a champion at that

What puzzles me is I for what ever reason, I seem to remember reading years ago(way before release) that the game engine was going to be totally new and different from what was used in GW1. Must have dreamed it.

They lied like Bethesda lied about Skyrim’s engine which is same old stuff but modified, same thing with CoD:Ghosts and their crappy engine from 1999…

Full zerk with 0/0/10/30/30 – shatter, is my new build, I planned this a time ago, and today I tried it.

Pros:
1k shatter heal (no clones) -> 8k shatter heal combo (3clone shatter, make 3 more next shatter etc.)
Still good damage.
Survival is good.
Some dmg redux
Heal removes conditions.(1)
Good support.
Can solo camps(WvW) easy.
Survive retal burst while doing sw #3-> #2, Shatter combo.

Cons:
No clone on dodge
Not 60%+ crit chance nor 100%+ crit dmg.
The way I use, still no AoE heal support. (can change traits for that if needed)

The testing (WvW) Enemy guard, and ele. Both tried to take me down, but my shatter and heal combo, slowly drained them both. Ally(ele) comes and helps (he dies, not my problem) The guardian and Ele still struggle to take me down, I down the Guardian. Stomping him, with a stomp-start (staff#2) (Shatter #4) and blink once I almost land the finisher. Kills him, start dueling the ele, and a ally thief comes and forces the ele run away.

No DE and no perma Vigor for shatter builds is kinda bad, plus you don’t have boon stripping. Instead of changing builds and make one that is kinda meh when it comes to clone spamming (which is needed for shatter) and damage wise, try to change your current weapon sets (if the main reason you made this build is necro condis). Try GS/Staff (you need to get used to this combo tho cuz most everyone use sword/X+staff or gs all day every day), its MUCH easier to solo necs on double ranged weapons. With three stun breakers, two stealth (mi/decoy) its pretty hard to lose to a nec even with their current condi melting builds.

Trust me, I know what I did. And necro is not that hard anyways. and it’s not for necro only. it’s a overall healing on shatter, for survival in group play in WvW.

Well i wouldn’t go as far as saying “necros aren’t that hard” when on this same forum section and spvp section i’ve seen tones of people asking how to deal with a necro as a mesmer and see people suggestion such as “don’t solo them” lol but hey, you do what you want

You know how an elite stealth skill such as MI should be if they keep stealth to only 5sec and CD at 90sec? Reduce casting time to 1/4sec, decrease cloaked people to 5 BUT it does what Prismatic Understanding does (every sec for 5sec) when you stealth. Now that would be a kitten elite and since SR already heals you by default 5sec of prismatic understanding on MI wouldn’t be ‘OP’

Not all MMO’s are CPU bound. This one is, though and that’s why a lot of people have performance drags on GW2 since it doesn’t utilize GPU’s nearly as much as it should. I kind of remember FPS being better at launch than it is now, though lol. These types of things take a great deal of work to overhaul and correct and they did release an update a few cycles ago that dealt with optimizations and said more would be coming at a later date..So it’s just a matter of time I think.

The main problem here isn’t “most people” but EVERYONE has fps problems. You cannot have smooth fps in zergs/large events, its impossible

Let me take a guess. GEM STORE 800gems.

Better than

RNG CHEST,120 gems, 0.00000001% drop rate

yes, but what about adding it to the game and no gems involved? You know, how it used to be in gw1? Why is it that every time an armor is added its automatically has to do something with gems? wtf

Buy 800 gems with gold. There, acquired only through pve. No need to thank me.

every single time i bought gems was with in game gold and not dollars. Do you have any idea how much gold 800 gems would be? that would be close to 30g and all i want is chest/leg piece. Don’t want to spend 30g for two armor pieces

Yes, exactly. 30g for an entire set. Now look at cultural (T3) which is 119g for an entire set + you need crystals for those. The cultural chest piece is…30g! What a shocker. As I’ve said numerous times to other people. If it’s worth it, it’s worth it. Otherwise you don’t buy it, simple as that. I bought Krytan skin and only saved the chest, threw the rest away without a single doubt.

Oh but cultural is overpriced as hell and every1 knows that. Especially since cultural isn’t even exotic and requires and exotic armor piece plus a fine stone, ripoff lol. This new armor isn’t cultural which should cost less AND i should be able to buy piece i like because that’s what i did with t3 cultural, buy pieces i preferred and not forced to pay for the whole set

DirectX 11?

The use of DX9 was probably because that the GW1 engine was used for GW2, albeit highly modified.
DX11 would make the game run better without adding in tesselation or other eye candy effects.
There were rumblings that GW2 would also be brought to consoles as well(which would explain using DX9 as well as only 3 heavy threads for the engine).
If there is a DX11 update I would welcome it from the stance that it would improve performance for this game.
GW2 in my opinion is a kinda next gen mmo. They haven’t pushed the envelope in any technical category that I can think off.

This will be a next gen MMO:
http://vimeo.com/57829622

Realize that this video is Beta and not completely finished. The game will also have large scale PVP and PVE battles with 0 performance impact. Aside from the texture pop the game looks beautiful, especially the character models.

I doubt that GW2 will ever have DX11 implemented but I certainly would welcome it.

wow dat looked impressive, when is it coming out? Reminds me of Dragon’s Dogma combat system which i liked a lot. Or is this another generic 30 hotkeys spam fest mmo?

With this game it seems CPU clock speed is the thing more than how many cores you have. Big WvW fights though, probably will bog down anyones machine. Turn of Post Processing, and things that will help some.

That’s not helping at all. I have a 2500k running at 4.3ghz, i hate post processing effect so its always off since game was launched and 10-20fps is all you’ll be getting in zergs.

Why would you want a new profession when all they release is mini games that replace your skill bar with kitten of that mini game? A new class with nothing to use the new skills on is kind of a waste. Would i want one? hell yes, Derv, but before adding a new class give me a solid pvp and good pve content that isn’t jumping puzzle based

Because you’re ignoring the fact that DX11 improves fps. No matter how much you don’t care about graphics, fps in game that runs at 15 in zergs certainly needs it

Okay, legit question, since I’m not sure myself, are you even sure that DX11 would increase framerate in zergs? I was under the impression that the biggest contributor to zergfest fps was the game engine and not a DX specific issue?

It certainly has less chance of happening than if they changed their engine and weren’t using something as outdated. But even if the chance of fps increase is slim or fps increase is only 5-7fps, i’d still want it because from 20fps and almost 30 there’s a big difference. We will still be getting dat skill lag so yeaaah…

GW1 to GW2 - Steps Forward and Backward

Guild Wars 1 and 2 are for different peoples.
GW1 = hardcore(thinking) gamers
GW2 = casuals

As someone who is running a Direct X 11 card, I have only one thing to say

I really could not give less of a kitten about GW2 running on 9 instead of 11

Why? Don’t you like this game’s art style? Your character’s and his/her armor details? You don’t want to see this game run better? Pretty ignorant if you ask me, because DX11 makes everything above BETTER

I does

but the game looks good already, better is always good, but once again

I could not care less if it did or did not

if you pay close attention to detail (for example, blocky heads and fingers, ps2 quality textures almost everywhere) the game doesn’t look good at all graphically for today standards. It may look good/decent for an mmo but not for general gaming graphics. Look at the witcher 3, game will be bigger than gw2 and looks like two gens ahead when it comes to graphics and micro details.

GW1 to GW2 - Steps Forward and Backward

My friend didn’t play GW1, but even he said, that GW2 is not worth wasting time. He said that GW2 is just like Perfect World, the same grinding and RNG game.

-The talentless developers, the talentless game.

That’s what he said. And I’m starting agree with him.

My friend didn’t play GW1 at release but played WoW instead. He tried GW1 later on but unistalled in 1 week, it was “crappy game”. Got GW2 at release and never looked back at WoW (or GW1 of course) and is happy ever since.

I guess different people and different friends.

I was playing Lineage 2 a long time ago, which has a similar grind to Perfect World, honestly I can’t see any similarities between them, any at all.

There’s only one way to not like gw1, if you tried the game for the first time when it was already dead… Its close to impossible to not like that game if you’ve played it in 07 or earlier (of course you need to like rpg’s in general). If i tried gw1 in 2012 for the first time of course i wouldn’t like it, game feels super slow, ugly graphics and its deserted. That wasn’t the case in 08 and earlier

Am I the only one getting lag?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I mean, at rediculous times – when I’m inside a dungeon, when I’m doing story, when I am killing a quest…

But when I am whacking some random mob – it’s fine 70% of the time. I can get to normal websites just fine – forums is fast too, youtube is fast – so I’m willing to bet it’s not my ISP.

PC spec wise – mine can run Crysis 3 without lag at ultra, Tomb Raider at High.. So it’s not my pc.

:\

I don’t get it… you can run Tomb Raider on high which is a console port and far from the most demanding game (especially when tressfx is off) but you can max the most demanding game on the market, crysis 3?

Making condition damage viable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nuka Cola.8520

Nuka Cola.8520

Almost every single player who tried to use condition builds in PVE has requested this. The only relevant response we got is that they have hardware problems so they can’t fix the 25 cap quickly.

Also, even with the bleed cap removed, condition damage is still inferior to direct damage in PVE because most PVE mobs and bosses have massive health pools and relatively low armor

one thing for sure, they have a lot of problems with a lot of things in this game. I mean having a problem with ‘hardware’ when it has to do with 25 stacks cap is just funny lol hardware problem

Mass Invisibility vs. Shadow Refuge

in Mesmer

Posted by: Nuka Cola.8520

Nuka Cola.8520

You can counter refuge with a pull, push, launch or even something AoE that hits hard enough that he cannot stand in. Mass invis will cloak a bunch of people (meaning you and your clones if no one else is around). Next to being interrupted not much you can do to stop mass invis, and easy to chain off a decoy. My only real problem with this skill is how long it takes to cast.

I kind of agree that 5 seconds is kind of short considering refuge gets both a heal utility and a stealth with a dark field or more stealth. On a 60 sec c/d

But 30 seconds extra and no real counters is pretty fair, but I think it should have a minor stealth buff or a cast reduction buff. Well actually anything added to it would be nice…

But if we’re gonna compare veil needs ALOT more love, there is no reason outside of WvW to run veil! Not to mention it’s only useful in WvW if there are a bunch of Mesmers using it.

You can counter MI with push/pull/launch and even knockdown with its ridiculous casting time so what’s your point? Inside SR if you see people that have a possibility of pulling you out, just dodge or use an evade attack such as death blossom (when no1’s inside SR). With MI you can’t do anything else but raise your hand for half an hour hoping no1 rupts.

Most severe clipping in a video game?

Have you played or seen a game (could be any genre, not limited to mmo’s) with worst clipping than gw2? How many of you seen swords/GS’s clip through bottom level when stowed in another game? How many of you seen half of a weapon such as torch or warhorn be completely inside character’s leg? I have never seen this kind of clipping in 14y of gaming, and i don’t even have a Charr to appreciate this gw2 amazing feature to its full potential… Will devs do something about it ONE DAY or its not on their priority list like most things and i will be stowing weapons inside my leg for the months/years to come!?

“For those of you who have been asking about DX11 support for Guild Wars 2, our goal with GW2 has always been to provide a gorgeous fantasy world while at the same time running on a wide range of gaming PCs.

Focusing on DX9 allows us to do this, as it’s a much wider supported graphics API than DX11 is and we wanted our game to reach as many of our fans as possible.

We will be evaluating supporting DX11 post launch. ~RB2”
