Xar.1387 is really reaching now, “they said you will need the core game, they never said you need to purchase it”.
Why don’t you go into a store the next time they announce something new is available and try and walk out with it, then explain that they never advertised that you need to pay for it as they escort you to the backroom, let us know how that goes for you.
While that is also true, this is the direct result of ignoring a pretty big issue (obviously by the number of posts). Ignoring a problem doesn’t make it go away, it enrages people and does more harm then good.
Hey, at least the Dragonhunter name feedback thread was buried. Similarly, maybe they count on giving us something else to keep us busy after this.
You might be on to something here.
Oh I don’t know, like a mature human being, but again that’s just my opinion. Being unhappy and voicing why you’re unhappy with a decision doesn’t make you immature, it makes you human, screaming or typing in all caps for no real good reason kind of invalidates your original comment.
Again that is just one mans opinion.
You’re entitled to your opinion just as other’s are entitled to theirs. Don’t like to read their opinion’s ? Don’t click the link.
One could say, using caps in a game forum to get your point across would embarrass a toddler, but hey that’s just my opinion right ?
I kind of started the day outrage surfing, essentially laughing at all the kitten kids going crazy with their overwrought sense of entitlement.
Now though, now it’s just kind if dirty. Is this really how the world works now, where people riot over someone else getting a gift or over not being given enough gifts themselves?
I am only sad.
There are plenty of opinions why the outrage is justified, a few of them I can completely agree with. Giving new players the core game with 5 character slots gives them the advantage to create the new class without spending more money or ingame currency. The loyal customers have to buy a new slot or convert gold to gems to get the new slot. That is only 1 valid reason.
It’s not about giving a gift, if that is what you have came back with from all the complaints then you haven’t really read all that much.
Sorry you opened it to soon but on the bright side you can look forward to the next expansion that will include the glider you already purchased this expansion !
Getting really tired of people like you (on both sides of the argument) making new threads saying the exact same thing over and over. Why do you think you should have your own thread… Like you have something groundbreaking to say. All I hear is “everyone should value my opinion more” ugh.
While I agree that the amount of threads is stupid, no one is forcing you to open or read them.
Very true, yet it is more distraction for the forum mods and Anet staff to sift through. It is essentially spam.

Yes, but to be fair. After such a fiasco I would think they are trying to come up with an “everybody wins” scenario. IF they are planning to change the deals in any way whatsoever, that likely requires being approved by higher-ups, which in turn takes time. There is always the possibility that they are completely ignoring it though…
I’m not disagreeing with you, but the posts will continue until they address the issue, it is what it is.
It will be like any other GW2 purchase I would imagine, log out and purchase it as if your a new customer using your friends email, he should receive the game key, or you will see it upon purchase. Just make sure you sign everything up as your friend, his name, his email, his address and so on. Worst case scenario, you need to tell him the key code.
At least thats how I would imagine it should work.

I thought that everyone knows that they are going to do something like 2 in 1 (GW2 + HoT).
IMO there is nothing surprising in this. I wrote about this few months ago.
It is the standard AFTER a couple months, typically you release the xpac, the core becomes discounted, so you buy the core at a discount + the xpac. A couple months later the two are combined, this is done to directly avoid issues like the one that is splattered all over these forums.
Then delete one of ur older characters and make a revenant if u dont want to pay for more slots. Its simple.
Btw, revenant looks boring. There’s alot of better classes.
You’re missing the point, I have an open slot, it’s not about the slot, its about acknowledging your loyal customers and not putting new players before them, it’s about telling people that the core game was required and those that went out and bought the core game to find out it wasn’t needed, it’s about good PR.
As a business new blood is needed but shafting your loyal customers is just bad business.
Its more about showing a shred of appreciation for me, Anet has customers that have been loyal from Day 1, sure we kitten and complain but we still log in despite our and ther faults. This feels shady to me, they don’t care about our time spent, our money spent, or our loyalty is what this boils down to. I think a character slot for people who own the core game is more than fair, and a good way of saying thank you for supporting us through thick and thin.
Without us core players (that own the core game AND GW1+xpacs) this xpac would not have been possible.
Well here’s the thing, Anet is doing what they do best, ignoring the glaring issue and hoping it just goes away. Don’t expect an logical answer or any answer for that matter anytime in the near future.
Thanks Arenanet, I’m happy, I understand both arguments but sso many people don’t. CORE GAME IS FREE FOR THOSE WHO DONT ALREADY HAVE IT!!!
Oh well thanks for clearing that up, problem solved, obviously none of us understood this valuable piece of information.
This is not a good example, you would be better off saying, you bought a car, three years later you want the new custom paint job, it can be yours for the price of the new car with the custom paint job (minus the new car) or you can just buy the new model with the custom paint job.
You no if they would do something small like, if you own the core product you will receive 400 gems, or a finisher, or a exclusive dye, or anything, it would go a long way to show they appreciate their long time player base.
For the love of god though, no more kitten mini’s.
The number itself is not my point, $50 is fine if its $60 for the xpac and core game.
You guys should stop playing video games and get better jobs
This is not about money, this is mainly about value. There is a difference.
If you have grown up in a very consumer heavy society like North America, throwing money at over-prized stuff is part of your daily life. The value of a product is secondary as long as it is the up-to-date “thing”.In other societies the value of a product consists of both, the cost and the degree of satisfaction in regards of expectations. $50 here is a dinner for two, $100 if you want something better than pizza. Even though you could say that is fairly expensive, together with the experience I see enough value to pay for the experience.
I don’t care about the prize tag, as long as I see the proper value in the product.Which right now I see not in GW2:HoT, and neither does my wife. Two less buyers of the expansion for now.
Value is subjective. Fifty dollars is nothing to an adult. For example…A man with a wife and three kids wants a burger for dinner. He ends up paying about $50 to eat his burger. If he wants an ice cream cone it will cost him around 10-15 dollars. Fifty dollars is nothing.
Your assumption is subjective, $50 to some is not nothing. Believe it or not there are adults out there that live pay cheque to pay cheque to feed there family. The fact that you assume all adults view $50 as nothing shows you have zero concept of value.
In my opinion the xpac should be available as standalone for less, even if its $40 for those of us that have the game. Charge $50 for the core & xpac, if I pay $50 for both, I should get a fresh new account because that is what I am buying. I only want the upgrade, so it makes sense that it should be cheaper for the upgrade only.
Of course that’s just one consumers opinion, but I’m certainly not going to lose sleep over it. I will say I do not agree with Anets logic on this one, veterans do have a right to be unhappy about this.
Your missing the point I think. Op is asking which class in your opinion is the worst. Some classes are better suited for commanding than others. The player behind the character might be great but that doesn’t mean that class is the most optimal. For me it’s a toss up but probably teef.
They are lowering it if your condition Stat is low, if you actually gear for condition damage you will do more damage then you do currently. That is pretty much exactly what they said.
Well a Ranger can put up 25 bleeds within seconds, they can maintain 25 stacks as well. So now instead of maintaining they’ll just throw A repulsive amount of stacks and gg. They will lawl in your face if you clear them, followed by quickly replacing it with more stacks. That’s just rangers, I don’t even want to get into all the other classes.
Rip WvW roaming and small man’s. As if Condi’s weren’t cancer enough. I often wonder if the majority of devs play anything but PvE because that is the ONLY game mode that this change makes any sense.
Soo basically, Anet has decided to turn Spirit Rangers into Ritualists.
I don’t play a Spirit Ranger but if I did my pets better follow me around. Can we make the Ranger pets all stationary to pls ? I mean you won’t have to fix the pathing this way. While were at it, minions don’t need movement either.
Is this a joke ?
Have you even read the Mesmer updates ?
They have given them purpose beyond Veil bots in WvW, they have more build diversity for SPvP & PvE.
These changes actually make me want to play my Mesmer again.
This is a joke right?
Apparently not, I guess once you buy a tag your suppose to get an invincible buff. We all just missed the memo.
You will NEVER have a WoW like raid in GW2 without the Holy Trinity, not a complaint, just stating facts. WoW raids are designed for the Trinity, I am having a really rough time envisioning how they (Anet) could make enjoyable raid content (on WoW’s level) without any form of Trinity.
It will never be close to a WoW raid standard …
No one is asking anet to copy paste wow raids in gw2 lol.
Read the OP post. He insinuates (he’s not wrong) that WoW does raids very well and he would like to see something along those lines here, in GW2. While he may not be asking for carbon copies of WoW raids, he would like something “like” WoW raids which won’t happen without a trinity.
You very well could make something to that regard. Advanced mechanics with more sustained fights. Environmental mechanics. Really the only things you wouldn’t have is a tank, I men you even could potentially have people relegated to healing duties, and even then you could have mechanics that allow people to act as tanks even if only temporarily. (I suggest you look up Skady’s Clerics gear Fractals).
You just described the Trinity.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against this, I find the dungeons boring as of right now. I would love to see them more interesting, I would love to see some raids (I’m not even a big PvE fan, but I love a good dungeon run). I’m just having a really hard time seeing how they could roll out something that would be exciting and fun without the trinity. Personally I wouldn’t even care if they brought in the Trinity, but, they would receive all kinds of backlash if they brought in the Trinity.

Confirmation of Launch ans Scheduled Launch are two completely different things. They are scheduled to launch for summer, but, if they have a hick up or issues they can delay their schedule.
don’t move to very high populated servers, it costs more and you will have longer queues for WvW…
if you move to the high populated server, it’s 1000 gems, right? that should be around 180g… and as you will move to the server where some of you already are, you can support each other, so the one who will stay pays half the cost for his friend who will be moving to his server for example, that would be 90g each, that’s not that much… and you can farm some dungeons together to make it faster
you can also sell your materials from bank to make money fast…
or move to the medium populated server and it’s just 500 gems, even easier, but with less people in WvW… but with less people playing, every person have higher impact imo, but I don’t WvW much, so it’s just a guess
Here is the largest issues with this, just because a server population states Full/Very High doesn’t mean diddly squat currently. Your WvW experience could be dull and boring. Those population indicator’s ? Ya they are garbage, they base it off ALL players on that server, inactive, active, PvE, SPvP, WvW, … all of them.
It’s a large bone of contention with the WvW players currently, we have servers that are underpopulated in WvW and yet according to Anet they are Full status. These “Full” servers can’t get players to transfer to the server because they are full, considering it doesn’t matter what server your on for PvE the ONLY thing this effects is WvW and its currently doing more harm then good. Good servers are dying off, having their morale destroyed, and basically not enjoying the game because Anet has YET to address or fix this issue.
Thats my rant, now if your looking for a true idea opf where servers are in the grand scheme of thing for WvW you can google GW2 Millenium and it will give you an more accurate depiction of where servers truly rank, regardless of there population status.
Don’t transfer blindly because a server says “Very High” if you intend to WvW.
You’re aware this is a game right ?
GREAT IDEA!!!!
to make it fair for roamers: IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN 3 PEOPLE ON YOU THEN YOU ARE INVULNERABLE – this is to prevent commanders using 50 man zergs to chase roamers.
nah its your fault if you run around alone in a game mode about large fights and battles.
Last I checked you don’t decide what this game is about. In fact that is a pretty ignorant statement considering how many different game modes are within this game.
Considering it depends on which Dev you ask as to which answer you get, not even Anet can say what WvW is about, one will tell you siege, one will tell you epic battle, one will tell you community, one will tell you to bridge PvE/PvP, one will tell you to test your skill ….. you get the point I hope.
One could say, it’s your fault for being a bad commander that keeps getting sniped when it is avoidable.
There is no need to “fix” this, it’s not broken, have a secondary ready to tag up, change your tactics, change your class, don’t play a giant neon glowing norn, there’s plenty of things you yourself can do to help tone down the driver sniping.
So many squishy Commanders out there because they feel the need to do damage, tank up to the fullest extent possible, hit like a wet noodle and let your minions do the damage, your job is to lead and survive.
What I would ask some of our more tech savy people is, would the following work ?
We have 24 NA servers, take the total population and spread it evenly across these 24 servers. Your server for PvE doesn’t matter because of Mega servers so this shouldn’t effect those folks.
From here when a player chooses to enter WvW they are prompted to choose a World to represent for WvW purposes.
You choose your Rep World, it can be the one your on now or a different one (everyone will get a 1 time free transfer in essence). Your character will now be associated with that World for WvW purposes only. You fight for that World, your matched up against who ever they are fighting ect ect ect.
Transfers would work the same, the difference is you’re transfering who you rep not your actual server.
This way they can keep track of representation for WvW purposes and which Worlds have the most rep’s.
This would in theory end the problem of a server with no one in WvW being full because it has nothing to do with the server itself.
I agree with Provost. Anet definitely went overboard with this “execution”. It is not the eighteenth century anymore: we don’t have to warn the population by having public executions. Just ban the guy and move on. That’s bad publicity.
I disagree, first off its not real life, no one was actually executed. Second, if you just ban someone and move on the other hackers/exploiters just continue doing what they are doing, this makes it public and known that there are indeed consequences for their actions. Third, so they made a spectacle out of a pixel character, this doesn’t do anything to humiliate the person who was behind the character, they didn’t release his/her name, location, age, or anything that matters.
Its great publicity, there are already people asking what game this was in the articles written so they can give it a try.
I think more games should do stuff like this, your effectively cheating you deserve whatever actions the Devs deem worthy. Don’t like it ? Don’t exploit/hack.
So they strip the character and force him off a bridge… what is this, the mafia? This is an online game with privacy rules. Just ban the account. If you want to celebrate, post a picture of his character in a “hall of shame” or something. There’s no need for the whole show.
I’ve never been more convinced of ArenaNet’s immaturity.
Well lets see, he ruined other peoples enjoyment (we’ll say in the hundreds to thousands) for how long ?
I think its fitting, good on Anet for this. How exactly do you come to the conclusion that displaying his character in a “Hall of Shame” would be less immature ?
Some people will complain about anything.
It’s a good thing my trusty Tin Foil Hat didn’t take any damage the last time the sky was falling, now I can reuse it for this time !
Many servers are in this state, maybe its not a severe as ET but they are well on their way if not already there.
There are plenty of good suggestions in the “Population” Thread here in the WvW forums that I think we need to encourage. Its is not always about the server being classified as full, sometimes the server is just undesirable because of the lack of player base. Without that player base people don’t move because who wants to be stuck in no mans land all alone. Its a vicious cycle, unless one of the bottom servers is chosen as a bandwagon it is near impossible for them to go anywhere. Besides that, it’s not just T8 suffering, half the Tiers in NA are suffering from boredom.
The only way I can see them really sorting out this mess they have created that is “World Population” is to just reset everything. When you create your character you don’t choose a “Home World” as its irrelevant at that point in time, your just thrown into the Giant pool that is PvE Mega Servers. When you try to enter a portal or use the hot key for WvW you have a 1 time notification pop up that asks you to choose a “Home World” to Rep for WvW purposes. If you already have established characters, they patch, you go to enter WvW, the notification pops up, you choose either your typical “Home World” or a new one (one time free transfer as it were) from this point forward that’s your WvW Server that you rep. Transfers can still work the same 1800 gems or whatever they decide to transfer WvW Representation.
Roll it out with HoT, give everyone advanced notice that this will be whats happening, it just might fix some population balances in WvW in the process and it will eliminate a server registering as full because of a bunch of people that have no desire to step foot into WvW. Those players can be content in their Mega Server and should they one day decide to try out WvW they have an option which server they can Align to.
They could even eliminate servers at this point if they desired, once the first 12 servers (example only) have a healthy rep they open 3 more and so on and so forth. This last part is meh and would make some people kitten if it was their original server that was shut down.

Dungeons should be fun, part of the fun is challenge, everyone in full zerk speed running is not fun nor is it challenging. You can say “but but if everyone goes tanky the fights will last longer” but that unrealistic. People will still insist on everyone running full zerk, stacking, and everything else that makes it quick and painless.
This is the reason the trinity was there to begin with, while I can respect that they tried to get away from the trinity, the current format has made dungeons a formality to earn gold vs something to do for fun.
I would like to know more about specializations. The rest is fine I don’t mind waiting, but the specializations are exciting imo.
The ones saying it was OP are the ones that were bad. These are the people that usually blobbed it up and even though they had more stability available to them due to sheer numbers, they didn’t coordinate it. When you had two organized guilds fighting each other, the better guild usually won, not because of stability it was usually because one of them made a vital mistake along the way.
People were mad because tbh they didn’t know how to play, Ele would blow static and everything they had on inc and of course the stability would roll over that, maybe they should have timed their CC a little better instead of blowing their load on inc. CC still had its place, the primary reason Warrior had hammer was the CC, not all the reason the other poster listed. A well timed static or line could change the tide of a fight, but people wanted to be able to stand still and nuke away without having to think on their feet or kite damage. It amazes me that the top guilds had Ele’s and Necro’s whom did just fine before the patch, again it was a L2P issue.
The new meta is boring as hell, its also promoting laziness, those ranged players will QQ even more when a heavy manages to break through to them because how is it possible and why can’t they stand there unmolested and nuke to their hearts content ?
If people would have used their brains they wouldn’t have stood there like a deer in headlights while a hammer train runs them over. When I played Ele for my guild, I had to move, I had to use proper placement, I had to read the fight and think what the next move was so I didn’t get ran over.
Its a terrible change, but whats done is done, good players are adapting (even if the new meta is mind numbingly boring) and bad ones will find something new to QQ about while getting progressively worse at their ranged classes.
The most powerful CC’s in the game weren’t and still aren’t negated by stability, and yet it seems very few were smart enough to realize this, they were to concerned about their poorly timed static fields.
We are talking about Anet here, they want you to pay for another character slot. These are the same guys that charge 1800 gems for a transfer but only gives you the option to buy 1600 & 800 (or a larger amount of course) they are a business, they want the money grab.
Have tried the button that let you type in exatly what you want eh?
Your Cute, I’m talking about purchasing Gems with real money, not trading for your pixel gold.
Do try and keep up.
For every one player that wants Dungeons to be lengthy and exciting I’ll give you one that wants it fast to maximize the reward. We even have the one poster above that says “Hopefully condition builds can finally take the forefront”, dear god if this guy/gal knew how that effects SPvP and WvW he/she might think twice about asking for this.
That’s not to say I don’t sympathize or even agree with much of what the OP posted, but, there is a fine line to walk when balancing between (I’ll say 2 because SPvP is setup differently) 2 game modes. It’s also harder than one would think to make a Dungeon in a game without a trinity exciting. The classes just are flat out not designed to hold agro, soak up damage, and heal a party all of which is required for the exciting dungeon mode many are looking for. Like it or not the Trinity was there for a reason.
Sure they could probably make dungeons more difficult, they could even prevent stacking by reseting the boss in such a case, but the average GW2 player seems to want quick and easy over long and difficult.
The point is, you can’t and won’t please everyone. What you may think is fixing a class could potentially completely break it in another aspect of the game. The PvE in GW2 is lacking at best and yet they seem to think its more of a PvE game than anything. The true hardcore PvE folks are off Raiding whatever the new WoW content is. To truly make an epic PvE battle/encounter you need the trinity or at the very least roles to play instead of just dog piling and smashing your face into the keyboard as fast as possible.
We are talking about Anet here, they want you to pay for another character slot. These are the same guys that charge 1800 gems for a transfer but only gives you the option to buy 1600 & 800 (or a larger amount of course) they are a business, they want the money grab.
I agree, Shout Builds are kitten poor for dueling/roaming, anyone can come up with a “unique” (though its really not Unique) build and kill a bunch of bads and call it great. People will watch game play and think “wow this build destroys people” when in reality a skilled player will kitten all over you.
Celestial Ele’s are currently pretty powerful, if the player knows what they are doing and with Celestial Gear they are pretty tough for ANY class to take down.
LB Power Rangers are suppose to keep you at a distance, good ones will maintain that distance, with only shouts to rely on, your not going to catch one that half knows how to play the class.
Guardians are slow, always have been, Traveler’s runes help them for roaming but without any assistance for movement speed your going to be slow, its just the way it is.
Finally, as stated above if you want to Roam/Duel then go with a Meditation build, Medi builds shine more so then any other Guardian build in this area. It will also be more effective at gap closing to catch those pesky Rangers, you more then likely will still have issues with Celestial Ele’s.
We should probably ask them to take food completely out of the game, maybe Armor and weapons as well, in fact just give us all pointy sticks that do 1 dmg so the fights are epic.
