Are you sure it’s malice and not just ignorance?

Seems like there is a certain class of ranger that needs to be told things several times for it to sink in. Yeah, if you ask people not to, there will always be some wise guy who does it more, just to be a kitten, but many people will listen. You’d be surprised how many people in a pug Zerg are actually really new to the game and don’t know this stuff.

(I have two rangers BTW, and I know not every ranger is a skill clicking bear bow, but it does seem common).

It isn’t just ignorance, it’s outright incompetence really. Because you can inform them that the knockback is disruptive (educating them and removing ignorance out of the equation) and they’ll still do it anyway just because they’re facerolling mouthbreathers.

I guess some posters tend to forget there are players as well who do not care for speedruns and world trains, playing for fun. Being 1337 might bring people the feeling they should nerf all utility into the ground as their formidable DPS is the one and only thing which makes Tyria tick… But there will always be casuals and they’ll run builds which are easy and after pvt warrior and clerics guard the easiest playable character must be zerk ranger… 1500 range pewpews with their res-pet… The fact they can do anything all other builds can do but worse makes them low skilled by nature… Some are actually taking bears to make elitists know they are not interested in all aspects of 1337ism…

sarcasm? Never heard of it ….

I posted a 5000 char text last time regarding ways to get speed boost…
people stated as well that travelling any distance instantly will make the speed Infinite. Just unlock all WP’s…

If you’ve done so you’ll realize mounts are abysmally slow… Even with a100% speed buff. Just pay your Asura friends. It’s the only way to travel.

I honestly think I auto, rapid fire and barrage 90% of the times while fighting
Stealth has it’s uses and knockback as well. But the utility of the skill is overlooked.

This thread is about the wrong use of knockback, not rangers. If this is so this thread should be applied to all push and pull mechanics. Understand this skill is a 1200 range knockback, it’s unique. And do not punish experienced rangers for the mistakes of newbs and trolls… Please

Rangers have had a bad rep since day -2 I guess… But it’s always the ranger…

Only thieves should be griefed… Their max range is 1050 …

With pistols if traited. Untraited max range 900, like engis who also have a max range of 900 if untraited (not sure about the grenade kit but I’m pretty sure it has got a range of 900, 1200 if traited).

And most rangers see ppl hit from their aoe’s… Barrage is often negated. Due to pulls ab knockbacks. Thieves, rangers.,necros, guardians and warriors tend to cause this..

Not sure if I understand this and I don’t think the Barrage damage of my ranger has ever been negated and I don’t know what skill my thief could possibly have that negates damage.

All others should bring a long range weapon. Dungeon builds are not Open world builds!

I think everybody should be free to play how they want. If they die because they melee a mob who’s supposed to be ranged it’s their bad but you can’t expect them to just equip weapons because rangers have the habit to knock back everything.

1st quote: If we’re taling about pushing The push is 600 leaving it in range of pistols or SB’s anyways, when you cannot reach it anymore you were not in melle range to begin with. And range is always handy, if 20 ppl are attacking something they 5% loss will not outweigh the range benefits.

2nd quote
Scorpion wire?

3rd Quote
If all people are allowed to play as they want so can rangers! This works both ways.

I played ranger in dungeons about1- 2 months after launch when I was kicked from a party and someone said to me do never knockback a group when multiple ppl are meleeing. I got the message and tbh it was sheer ignorance on my behalf…

I think I love you!
None of those rangers I explained this to ever reacted like this and I’m fairly sure that in 95% of all cases I explained it in a perfectly normal tone. Instead a lot of them became trolls.

Well I play a game to have fun, and in my ‘limited’ vision it is fun when everybody has fun. Trolling is bad behavior.

As an additional remark I’d. Like to mention 1 of 26 with a CC skill affects champs and legendaries… For a 2500 dmg hit with I’ll take the risk… Even if there is a 6% chance of knockback…. Just looking at the amount of stacks left could be a good argument but when fighting gold and silver I sometimes have the wrong one targeted. Also with 50 ppl shooting this could occur every 6 seconds if all were rangers or faster if cc users. And when your main weapon ranges till 1200 for the knockback…. Only thieves should be griefed… Their max range is 1050 …

And most rangers see ppl hit from their aoe’s… Barrage is often negated. Due to pulls ab knockbacks. Thieves, rangers.,necros, guardians and warriors tend to cause this..

It’s not like rangers are the sole cause…

All others should bring a long range weapon. Dungeon builds are not Open world builds!
Going GS A/M is limiting your usefullness and effectiveness.

And good fighting also means dealing with changing battlefields

A small remark… Having 2 rangers I would like to state the skill 3 van be very usefull… It is essential in solo play and I can see the benefits of using the skill. Not in context of melee fighting but do remember enemies van come from multiple sides in SW. when up the walls actually you want to keep enemies away, also the fact pets run normally and don’t jump makes the pet speedbuff more useful. During the Breach and champion fights the knockback should be automatically removed due to champbuffs leaving the skill available for additional damage…

I doubt it’s meant as trolling and would be better to be seen in conjunction with the Ranger buffs which caused a lot of people I know to make a ranger. ‘second generation bearbows’ is IMHO the main reason for it. I played ranger in dungeons about1- 2 months after launch when I was kicked from a party and someone said to me do never knockback a group when multiple ppl are meleeing. I got the message and tbh it was sheer ignorance on my behalf… I learned and kept playing ranger in PvE and dungeons and was asked regularly even though rangers were in very bad light for a while, to a point where rangers where summarily kicked from all parties.

A new generation rangers is learning, and they will. Tell them their mistakes instead of asking their skill set destroyed. Asking for a removal of knockbacks is dumb and hammer carriers and winds elementalists can knockback as well. I ran with Hammer wielders as well and if they use knockbacks rangers have done it… Unless it’s perfect then hammer warriors get the praise even if it was the ranger. And I prefer the long knockback it has many uses. In fractals or vs igniters. Or anr place where you need to interupt ormove a foe.

Noteworthy mostly GS farmers are annoyed as the lose their ball. But these people should hear other people would like time to tag as well.. It’s not all about you… Both rangers should remember the cannot wreck balls, and farmers should learn there are ppl using builds that actually would like tags as well…
BUT I would go GS to farm… in SW however it would be a fatal mistake. I’d try in your cases to appreciate the dmg from range, it’s good support most of the time….

If you restart a chapter and quit it after you got all achievements the game tends to lock it in ‘MOST recently activated episode’.

I am quite fanatic as I am interested in the trinkets, so I tried to finish all the stories achievements, but I did some later….

It should show up as all golden icons (=finished all episodes and all asociated achievements) but guess? 3 times ‘MOST recently activated episode’…

In any case only 1 should be “the most recently…”

and I finished all…

In addition to wasting players time, perhaps the developers might also like to consider the environmental damage they are doing.

If 500,000 players attempt each living story achievement an average of 5 times before completing it and have to sit through 2 minutes of cut scenes and dialogue each time, that is 2.5 million minutes or 83,333 hours.

Assuming each of their computers are using 250Watts – That is a total of just over 20,000 KW/H for every completed achievement.

Yeah right like everybody is using a notebook, My gaming PC eats 875 Watts (capped at 60FPS) during gameplay…!! at Full speed 1050 Watt is no strange occurance… 2*375 watts for Gpu’s and 130 watt for Cpu and that’s not counting Mobo…
Pls multiply your figure by 2-3 to be more accurate! standard PSU’s are 450-600 Watt nowadays, not 200 Watt

In the whole list are some condi armors but most builds rely on power , most do not have defensive stats , and most are very viable in pve and /or dungeons.

Please give me back my old WORKING Beta LFG. The one which worked well and was readable and uasable.. Do it ASAP!

You made it from a release version to actually pre-bèta… it’s almost pronounced as pro-better, but it shows the level of quality which I doubt this would even be allowed as alpha software in the first place, and when testing it in a closed environment it probably looks s(l)ick but its driving me insane, it destroys part of the new the workings of the game..

AND THIS IS IMPORTANT so Ninja Patch it if you have to!

problem with you wish is:

regarding stats:
power , main stat for dmg
precision , on crit 50% dmg extra. for 50% crit chance this equals to 25% more dps for same power
ferocity: raises the 50% extra dmg, maximum is 125-140%, resulting in added dps on crit
toughness: reduces dmg taken, more important as fights last longer. effectively adds to your health pool as vitality does, BUT completely ignored by condition dmg.
vitality: raises hitpoints, but has no influnence on healing, leaving you with a bigger healthpool but no way of refilling it…
healing: raises the amount of healing received, generally scaled to a proportion where it’s effectiveness is reduced to near nothing, and certainly inadequate to fill healthpools, especially when modified by vitality,
condition dmg: very usefull doing DOT to high armor targets, unfortunately most conditions are capped or just stacking duration, making multiple users of conditions lose on dmg, and time needed for stacking makes it useless for short duration combat
condition duration, very important with condition dmg as it works as a modifier actual % is the amount of DOT increase, no us for dps builds though, as most conitions are stackable to the max without additional duration (vunerability, blind, weakness)
boon duration, moderately usefull , due to longer uptime of fury and might, stability and protection. less usefull then p/p/f/cdmg/cdur…

leaving the order for dps
power (DPS)
precision (triggers/crits)
ferocity (modifier for crits)
(condition dmg) (additional DOT)
(condition duration) (additional DOT)
toughness (survivability)
healing/boon duration (survivability)
vitality (shouldn’t be neccesary)

and leaving the DOT (which are capped so max 1/group)
condition dmg (DOT)
condition duration (DOT modifier)
precision (trigger)
toughness/healing (survivability while DOT is stacking)
power (additional dps)
boon duration
ferocity (shouldn’t be neccesary, not enough power to modify)
vitality (shouldn’t be neccesary)

and for hybrids (which are capped so max 1/group)
power (dps)
condition dmg (dot)
precision (triggers)
condition duration (dot)
boon duration (might uptime/fury uptime)
(ferocity (dps))
toughness/healing (survival while building stacks)
vitality (shouldn’t be neccesary)

For a “tanky build”:
Toughness (survivability)
(Power/ Condition Dmg (you will need a damage source now or do you?))
Healing (heal the hits that come through)
Boon duration (buffing keeps you alive)
Vitality (larger healthpool tends to help
Condition duration
Precision
Ferocity

Hybrids and DOT builds tend to be mutually exclusive
Some conditions are spammed to much to build adequate stacks
Fire tends to be spammed by ele’s and guardians and bleeds by engineers, necro’s, (rangers) and warriors…
Leaving :
mesmer as a good hybrid choice (torment/confusion/bleeds/poison/fire)
necro as a good hybrid choice (poison/bleeds/terror/torment)
thief as a good hybrid choice (bleeds/poison/torment/confusion)
engineer as a good hybrid choice(confusion/poison/bleeds/fire)
warrior as a moderate choice (bleeds, torment, fire)
ranger as a moderate choice (bleeds/poison/fire/confusion(pet))
ele as a overall build using celestial (bleeds/ fire)
guardian … no condition-builds recommended (fire(/retaliation))…

1 non -DPS user/party is okay , but it will mean the others should be dps and preferably do not interfere with conditions.
During small fights DOT-users will have problems getting the stacks up… not getting dmg on target, a tag and hence will be losing out on drops.

You can’t change this, as survivability is granted mostly by:
dodges/boons: (protection/aegis/regen/vigor)
conditions(blinds/weakness/frost)
reflects

healing/toughness and vitality are less usefull…

Just to reconsider the buffs and conditions:
100% reduction
stuns=> no dmg for duration of stun
blind/ aegis = miss => no dmg
dodge => evade all attacks for the second you dodge => no dmg
reducing enemy dps
weakness => enemy does no crits, enemy hits have a 50% chance to do 50% dmg, lowers enemy dps by 50-70%
protection => reduce incoming dmg by 33%
frost => +66% recharge for skills, well it actually matters quite a lot, it reduces enemy dps by 40% if a character would just be using 1 skill, with the full skillset the dps loss is lower but 10-30% still……
reducing enemy conditions:
(AoE) condition clear => remove 1 or more conditions, if a stack: whole stack dissapears.
negative condition duration => (runes/food) up to 65% (25 from runes, 40% from food) leaving only 35% of the damage remaining…

Gw2 Suggestions - Please change the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

Well I tend to agree with RoseofGilead

GW1 didn’t have elves, I find the sylvari a nice way to implement creatures very close to nature. and just elves, orcs, dwarves, dark elves and so on wouldn’t be creative no would it? Also just naming them wood creatures, We already have ents and they are disdtinctly different IMHO.

if you want a nice house, go and visit Cadeuceus Manor (CM in Queensdale…) it’s big

Also gw2 has no distinct timesetting IMHO , they have subs, tanks, flying craft, but also show the need for transport by marmox/dolyak/cow … They have people relying on pistols and rifles, while having characters using bows/ swords and daggers… or throw fireballs and magic bolts/beams…

For greater strangeness there are actual teleportation portals, interfaces, and robots…(iron forge man?) as well as magically animated creatures, effigies and golems.

If you have more wish for dark and light just reduce the gamma settings.

Regarding the gem store, you could actually get gems by not ever paying RL cash. I had a nice week earned 160 gold with dungeons and some luck…, that should be about 800 gems… so if you have a bit less luck and get only 10 gold a day, you could buy 400 gems a week not ever paying RL money.

Still He has a point what to do with the luck then , BUT

he will still need to salvage all drops for quite some time… or go and salvage ecto’s at a mind boggling cost, BUT then he will get his 300 % MF for 600-1000 gold depending on his actual luck in salvaging the ecto’s not counting the costs of the salvage…

And he could do with no longer salvaging anything (filling up his inventory so often…) and just selling….

The point of luck above 300%? Dunno, BUT;

Look to SilverWastes
Ran there with 620% luck:
drops become better tbh…

I only have 193% MF base… costs me about 22k luck for 1 level,
From achievements I have another 10 %
And I have a 20% MF infusion on my amulet… (well on one of my rangers and one of my warriors)

Additionally you can run…
100% birthday booster, (or celebration booster)
50% magic find booster,
100% improved magic find booster,
30% laureate magic find booster,
15% heroes banner,
30% halloween utility,
30% MF food…
10% guild bonus, and ofcourse
150% silverwastes bonus…
(50% bon-fire?)
better part stacks…

go figure out what magic find you can achieve… if you get above200%

question: Empower Allies?

in Warrior

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

For PvE Empower allies is standard in the Pug-Carrier (stacking-dungeons) build.

4/4/0/6/0 (Which is based around GS entirely, no swaps, sometimes a LB )

It’s a simple build using the greatsword might on hit and the phalanx trait.

generally ppl run
III,IX; (great fortitiude (vitality), slashing power (+10% GS dmg)
V,X; Rending strikes (vunerability), forceful GS (might on hit)
V,VIII,XIII inspiring banners, empower allies, phalanx strength.

skills normally are HS, SoM, BoS, FGJ, SoR weaposn tend to ge GS (seems to obvious) and LB (for 6- 9 might through firefield+blast and banner+banner 5) but without the bow you’ll easily get 25 might when fighting 2 or more enemies… Sigil of strength guarantees 25 might vs Single targets

This build is used to buff others with might if people are to lazy or the party is unable to stack might.

For a total of 875+150+170 power and 875+170 condition dmg.
(=1195 power, 1045 condi dmg)

As you need 6 pts in the tactics line this is actually a good synergy.

PvP Celestial Amulet is very strongk

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

The “small” bonus is 5/8 the size of a “minor” bonus for numerical attributes, leaving you buffed in all attributes, but underpowered in comparison with Minor and Major attributes of your enemy…. In general it leaves you spec-ing for hybrid builds. And then you see the bonus and the flaw.

It will do great against any opponent, but it doesn’t have the focus to be truly destructive, in the end a celestial build will win a battle if it drags on. Whwn DPS you can just spike ‘m and you’ll probably win, on the other hand if you have a DOT build you will probably outlast a celestial build… Problem is the middle end. If you haven’t spiked it, celestial will get the overhand, and when DOT-ing you need to stay alive quite a bit longer compared to a DOT-ing a dps build.

Major stat 932
Minor stat 650
Celestial stat 438

If you’d run a build depending on condition dmg, and healing and toughness you’d better go with settler instead of celestial…

Ele’s, engi’s, necro’s and warriors tend to do well on hybrid builds, but some do better then others.

I have full sets on 10 chars, and salvage o matics on 12. I could choose which I could keep and I’d probably keep 1 from each set, and still have 18 or so redundant… , and 11 salvage kits. It’s about 22k gems…

I doubt they would refund me 2500 gold, or 3500 if you used the other conversion ?

Older Players

Well I’m 40, and my 4 yr old daughter says I’m old

I started playing games on a monochrome based computer game on my dad’s TRS-80 model 4, being 8 maybe 10 yrs old. (should be beginning or mid 80s’) Things I remember was endless swapping of floppy disks and the victory of bringing the dog’s bone back to the dogpen. Life seems simpeler when gaming at 10 yrs old
I really hated my fathers daisy-wheel printer… (sounds like a machine gun)
But the dot matrix which came after it (with a new and improved abacus) was no real improvement… (sounds like a chain saw..)

I started on a
Tandy TRS 80 Model 4, (Z80, 4Mhz) 128 Kb RAM, 2x 180Kb 5.25" FDD. 80*24 characters. , It had a graphics option and was able to show graphics, monochrome only. BEEP- audio 1 tone, oh and a a 1200 baud telephone modem, or was it less??

Now using an
Intel i7 3930 hex-core(3.2-3.8Ghz), 32Gb RAM, 1x 256 Gb SSD,1x 250gb (swap) HDD (10krpm), 2Tb RAID0 set (7200rpm), 2 Nvidia780 GTX 3Gb G-DDR5, 2 screens:
1) 1920*1200 high-resolution 32bit color graphic
2) 1920*1080 high-resolution 32bit color graphic
7.1 Audio, (using 5.1 Headset)
With Gbit network inside the house and 100(down)/10Mbi(up) Internet connection..

In between a
386, 40 Mhz (my first with a graphics card for gaming)
486DX4, 100 Mhz SB AWE32, Voodoo Video
Athlon64 2000+, 1.6Ghz Mhz 2Gb
(Dual) Quad core Opteron 2376, 2.3Ghz Mhz 16Gb

I seen it all since ~1980:

Rise and fall of C-64, Atari, MSX 1,2,2+, DOS 3.+, GUI introduction,
8 bit limit, 16 bit limit, 32 bit limit, “millenium bug”, Introduction of GPU’s, audio, the mouse..
(4040), Z80, 8080, 8086,80×86, Pentiums/Athlons, S3 and Diamond GPU’s, the rise of Apple & AMD and so on…

One thing I learned: There is no High-End, only expensive computers

Reverting the Changes Made by the NPE?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

It really doesn’t have any effect on making a new character, for me at least. Pop a level 20 scroll, eat some skill scrolls, eotm or tome till 80.

you’re forgetting the dungeon runs / crafting…

I made 4 characters after the new changes, And to be honest I couldn’t be bothered by the trait unlocks, I got some from events or maps , for story dungeons, but I refuse to unlock the rest, It seems and/or is unneccessary.. 15 lvl 80’s why would I go do content which is not rewarding, Even when it unlocks a trait point it remains unrewarding. yes kill another (former) champion in …. for another white/blue/green bag….

I bought the core skills I lacked after leveling to 80 with some skillpoints & gold form the story dungeons they did.. They now have a build. Not a flexible adaptable trait set. A build…

And they excel at the things they were build for. and cannot do other content as I refuse to unlock the traits, I couldn’t be bothered by the traits aquisition and will not seek out to get anymore traits, to a point where it no longer matters if I or others find negative consequences spawning from this choice.

The NPE was nice I though t at first, you got usable drops I thought, until I noticed a lot of stuff is unsalvageable, unsellabe , or unusable due to the fact my characters level(ed) so fast, they tend(ed) to run ahead of the story… (mostly due to dungeons/EoTM/ crafting.) This because it’s uttelry boring to not being able to make a build at low level; no longer have the freedom to buy a different weapon at start, have no skills unlcoked for a while, miss the prof. mechanics… all because I’m noob for the 40th-50th time (tend to have run quite some engineers that never made it past lvl 30 or other characters before, that were not the characters of choice at that given moment, and some key warriors)

A good thing to come from the patch was the new backpacks… I like those. not all skins per sé… but moste were gratifying to make.

Not So Secret Diving Achievement....

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

Hi to you all…

I have a problem… I trying for and need the “not so secret diving achievement”…

Problem is I am a really bad jumper and even though I do know all shortcuts by now, it tends to be of little help. I am trying on a mesmer, I made it earler but only started to use it actively to do do this achievement… It’s level 80 by now, fully geared and traited by now, it has max slots by now, endless tools, ascended weapons and jewels.. But no diving achievement…

I’ve been on the platform quite a few times now in 12 months. In the beginning I needed several days to get up there succesfully once , now I get a try, maybe 2 or 3, a day if I’m lucky

The fact i cant just try it 4 or 5 times in a “shorter” period is causing me to get frustated now, not being able to learn or tune the jump… I jumped down minimally 50+ times and died each time. I made the one in Dry Top in 2 tries, but it didn’t count towards the achievement -.-

I have come to the point of ragequitting each failed climb and try….
I finished 37/38 jumping puzzles.. and it’s cluttering my achievemnt panel, I can’t turn it off and the fact being each time I check my achievements the diving achievements is on top, is starting to annoy me to a point I’m losing fun in the game.

Also it cost me at least 20 maybe even 40 revive orbs trying to get back up and continue… being half way up and dead trying to revive , is better then having to rerun and retry everything. I hate the slippery stones the most, and am fairly decent nowadays in climbing up until the point of the slippery stones… when I have actually passed the stones. I still only have a 50% chance of reaching the diving platform..

Could or would people help me get this achievement?

Sugg: Nomenclature and item rework

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

I think it’s nice to think of this but I need to relearn everything. I rather not bother.

The downside to every update is having to learn something new. But think of this as an needed change.

Would you rather:
Learn new stat sets and balances over a long period of time.
Or.
Open up the diversity now, create a solid foundation for the rest of the game, but have to learn a little bit more.

I’d rather learn 1 stat name at a time, not considering all modifications and things around it. The diversity you say to be created will be offset by stranger combinations like celestial (what are you going to call celestial) and the fact a lot of armors tend to sound more the same…

In practice I do not know the stat combo’s from only a few sets, being magi, shaman and apothecary, as they are not stat combo’s I could see as practical…
from most others I know which stats and the main stat. SO I reallty couldn’t be bothered, And it will , once created, casue the old guard talking stat names and the new talking the new stat language… IMHO a good base for confusion and a waste of time, for the people who will need to translate (player I mean) and the programmers,,,

Also I’ll wait for the way stats will be introduced, if all stats were to be dumped on us now, some people would find it hugely interesting and a lot wouldn’t give a ….

I’d spec into POWER/condition dmg/ condition duration… And have a nice DPS character from that moment on with a decent condition setup as well. I’d take maintainance oils sigils of accuracy and bloodlust and precision/ferocity food, runes with precision and ferocity and just debalance the game. with fury I’d get ~50% crit chance and make all content faceroll due to the fact I am no longer bound by any restrictions…

It would cause a shift to new builds.and would cause the death of the gamne as therew wouldn’t be much top look forward to anymore…

There are quite a few new stat combo’s since launch…

I’ll end with 2 good reasons why not to do so.

1 As power/precision/condition dmg/condition duration are the most powerfull stats in game these would be manipulated into uber builds…
2 because it will make almost all armor invalid, those not fulfilling point 1, all armor not containing 3 of the stats mentioned at point 1 would be scrap iron and rags …
At least for PvE

Is the shield viable for any class?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

People once used to run mace/shield on guardian.. mostly for cleric guards. They used to be common at the start of the game, bur now it tends to be rare. Yopu sometimes see them running in WvW, but for PvE shield on guard is mostly dead..

I could suggest a zealot mace/shield, but the dps is not comparable to GS / S+F neither will the defence bonus do any good. You’ll likely be attacked by mobs due to a higher armor in zerk groups.

I myself still run a bunker heal build. mostly because I made a second full zerk |(or full zealot guardian) for all dps things. It benefits from the 64 added armor points, on its nomads/çlerics build. With 1280 power its is not build for dps….the 3928 armor in combat, 1881 vitality and 1400 healing somewhat offset this… leaving me with a nice character for faceroll content ( I use it to do the Living Story, just to see if it works. It works, you need to have patience though :-) ) It has a clerics set as well for acrtual fighting, I salvaged the zerk set. I do not need it anymore on the bunker. I’ll just take the other one.
(Bunker runs M+S /Staff healing build 0/0/6(IV,VII,XI)/6(II,X,XII)/2(IV) (nomads t/a)(clerics t/w)
; Dps runs GS / S+F dps/support build 2(II)/5(II(/V/VI),X)/0/6(I,VIII,IX/1) (zerk all/ or zealot w/a zerk trinkets => honor would be more healing related.)

What kind of game is GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

Guild wars 2 is a nice game with many facets. It takes about 2-3 months of quite heavy gaming to get 1 character through world/ story/dungeon unlock/dungeon master. After this time you notice you just did 1 professions and others feel different behave different and have their own feel.

IMHO the story line up to say lvl 50 is great but narrows to the climax, which wasn’t very climactic to end with.

As armors and gear of exotic level are enough to finish all content without worries. I must say there is no actual need to grind. most skins available form normal exotic weapons will give your character a decent look. some of the gem-store armors I like a lot, but some do not have that attraction to me to spend money on them.

Ascended and legendary gear is the “end-game” as this is an open end game and eventually you might think you’ve seen all. Which hasn’t happened after getting 15 characters at lvl 80 and 7 with full map.

Dungeons are generally “easy” as long as you did them a couple of times. some paths take a bit more perseverence. There are long and short paths. Rewards tend to be better then pve, Fractals is an exception: It requires great investrment and pays nearly nothing.

I would like some more area;
not a piece of map like Dry top or SW;
but a big area, like the whole

- Maguma jungle & Woodland cascades, for mordremoth
- (or the crystal desert & scavenger’s causeway,) krakkaltorik
- deldrimor front& norther shivs, jormag
- the sea of sorrows & straits of malchor, water dragon
- or the ring of fire & blood legion homelands), primordius

I’ve come to a point where I actually would enjoy a more story lines till the death of mordremoth… (and krakkaltorik/primordius/jormag/“water dragon”)

I played 3400 hours yr 1, my second daughter was born a couple of months ago and Inoticed playing 1800 hours yr 2 now spending spend 2-3 hours daily now, partly invested in guild chores… I consider myself a fanatic casual player. I’m no no-lifer, no elitist. no farmer… I sometimes just open Gw2 on a second screen and watch people running around LA. whicghh also accounts for the high amount of hours played.

With the cash used for 1 000 gems, I’m pretty sure you could have bought whichever dye you wanted on the TP.

RNG in this game is terrible, especially with everything gemshop related. ANet is always going to beat you, so instead of buying gems, use your gold to buy what you want on the TP.

Regarding MF : the RNG in this game is kittened up, it’s impossible to say if MF really has an influence or not.

Maybe true… but if noone buys them for gems they are not availableon the BLTP anyways and low amounts of dyes are flipped, saw 1 costing 50 gold1 day and 250 gold the next…

What do you do every day?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

I do…

Either
Living Story (achievements) (finished about all)
Or
Dungeon tour COF 1+2, AC 1,2,3 sometimes (CoE 1,2,3), (TA fw+up), SE1+3
Or
Fractal any level between 1 and 39 (generally between 10 and 30)
Or
WvW (either some EotM or Borderlands or EBG depending on room & queues)
Or
Guild management (seeing as I’m guild leader and guild officer in another guild)
Or
Guild Missions (on sundays)
Or
Mapping (got 15 characters, 7 with full map, workinng on number 8 now)
Or
Farming for the grind thingies, either in SW, DT or Orr…
Or
Be bored having done all… again and again. 15 characters lvl 80… more then half with ascended weapons and trinkets.
Or
I rarely do some world bosses as the stupid schedule makes it uninteresting and impossible, which I still find one of the worst changes with the traits.

I never do CM, or HotW. I suck at CM as I didn’t like it and never tried to improve, and I’ve not been in frostgorge since the farm trains were annoying me. And I couldn’t be bothered with the norn stuck in bear form anyways.
I finished the personal story line 13 times now, and I have been there, done that.
I buy dyes, I have all basic dyes (blue/green and yellow rarity) and have a big amount of the “special ones” unlocked as well.
I used to do key farm, but consider it a waste of tim now and a big annoyance now the new “Leveling Letdown” started
I couldn’t be bothered with farming traits for the 3 characters I made after the traits switch, I’d rather take another of my 15 characters to finsih something then being bothered doing event’s i do not want to do because some &(^% felt it would make me feel more immersed. I do not. And it means I go and do things with 1 build. fixed.
I’m not a jumper, I got all puzzles done even the cristmas one and the clock tower but once done -> never again.
I get put off the collections by idiot flippers saying it’s nice to earn money so others can farm for their legendaries. So I do not give a &^%( about new weapon-skins and collection-crap anymore anyways, I hate the outfit garbage at the moment and am generally frustrated by the lack of nice armor additions to the wardrobe.

I like the surroundings, mini dungeons or small details in the game, I tend to go and visit Gwen’s grave sometimes, From Guild Wars I tend to miss Gwen, Sandford and Yakkington the most. I’m glad we’re seeing a bit from Ogden now, and I hope to see Glint or a (reincarnated) descendant soon…

Long Live Tyria (at least I hope so)

I wouldn’t mind if all but 5 waypoints on each map get destroyed. It would make the game more immersive… We would see ppl spawning there like in the first few days after launch, and It would make the comunity more helpful, ressing would become very wanted…

I like the thought of mounts, but I do NOT want them to have any abilities that can be used for faster travel, or influence combat.

Having said so, I do not mind them carrying stuff or have additional tools for mining/chopping or harvesting though. Like all things in this game they should mostly be eye candy… And having said so I still would like a dolyak, to walk with me (not a mini). As I find it cruel, even to pixel based animals to let my max size norns and charr sit on it….

Or, we could assume that the other players in this discussion have just as much right to their opinions as you do, take them at their word that they want mounts and have good personal reasons for doing so, and consider who we can implement them in a way that works for the most players as possible (though certainly no solution can please everyone, including the status quo). Making strawman arguments is not constructive.

It’s a stickman. not a strawman. a strawman has way more depth… More depth then the better part of this tread.

Well regarding speedboosts I have 7 characters with full map. to get it you also need the hearts…. When you been there done that you unocked everything…. you notice it’s just right. and you can get everywhere fast enough..

It’s people asking for a lot of things and mounts.
“I want a extremely fast way to travel, all time is just wasted”
“I want to skip everything”
“I want to use the mount for attacks as well”
“I want the mount even if others can’t have it, and who cares about them anyways?”
“I want to pay for it..”

Shouldnt we just make a special map for you? And area as big as the central plaza in LA, with portals to all dungeons-bosses and portals to all bosses and just delete the rest of the world map?

Just so you can ignore spawns, do not have to show interest in events, no longer have to travel the map?…
You’ll get no vendors of course and no drops, because it doesn’t matter as there is noone who can look at you…., no inventory as you do not need anything stored, no armor and no bank, no guilds……

No, let’s simplify it even more, just make a drop down menu to the end chests…whih of course contain nothing, just a sign space reserved for player name finished nothing, achieved nothing using nothing in nothing…. on your

I did tried for the connect the dots and got it, well within 20 minutes 15 min 25, so I though well let’s give it a try and also get labyrinth runner.

I killed the boss with a few seconds to spare… AND…. no achievement….

Unfortunatley the cut scene was taken into account in the time… and I failed the achievement in the end by 10 seconds.

I’ll just do it again but the dissapointment was big. The trigger should have been placed on the laybyrinths boss. Now we wait to see if the master of peace dies fast enough….

needing to wait through all cutscenes/ talk takes 45 seconds minimum..

If you did the living story you’ll get nomand trinkets and rings unlocked for LS 1+2 and 3+4 respectively, and for 5+6 you’ll get sinister trinkets. When thinking up till LS8 I expect you’ll het rings for the next two parts when you finished the LS achievements, finishing will ALSO unlock ’m for traders and laurel vendors.

Dual wield sword warrior

in Warrior

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

I still use a rabid(armor) rampager(weapons/trinkets) warrior SS/LB

this build has some different builds it can use depending on the goal:
WvW I generally run 0/6/5/0/3
PVE I generally run 2/6/0/4/2 or 3/6/5/0/0 or 2/6/3/0/3 dpending oin which stat is needed,
I run sigils bloodlust/strength for might and additional power, (toxic) sharpening stones and pizza.

Might is very important especially when solo-ing but less when group fighting. generally you can have ~20 might up: signet of rage (5)/FGJ, firefield on longbow+ banner+ skill 3 (6) +6-8 might from strength… 700 power and 700 condition dmg
banner is important 170 power 170 condition dmg.

I noticed my build for pvE will improve a lot by just changing to sinister armor and trinkets.
When running sinister":
I could go back to 2/6/0/4/2 or variants (not excluding 6/6/0/0/2 or 2/6/0/0/6)

strength (V)
2pts V Dual wielding +5% dmg
(4 pts) (III Great fortitude) more HP
(6 pts) (XI zerker’s power => flurry does have little uptime… but the extra dmg is not so much it would actually be usefull)

Precision: 6pts base (III)/?/XIII
I prefer using bleeds (III) and vulnerability (V), but as actual crit chance will get a bit lower I might actually take +10% crit while using sword (VIII). grandmaster I also use XIII

Defense (for wvw I take 5, mostly for the minor traits sometimes I take 3 or 5 in pve) Will be useless in sinister traiting IMHO… unless you need some easy survivability.
(III surefooted (wvw balanced stance)
(V) missile deflection ,pve or VI Cull the weak (extra dmg when enemy is weakened (with necro in party))
(IX) Cleansing Ire (condi cleanse based on adrenaline)
Minor traits: *
Thick skin +100 toughness while full health,
*Adrenal health
(gain healing based on adrenaline),
Armored attack gain power equal to 10% of toughness (= essential for rabid/rampager not so much for sinister)

tactics, 0(/2/4)pts
(while the traits are good the minors are not. unless you need speedy resses)
options
I leg specialist (each cripple causes immobilize)
II lung capacity (shout recharge (shake it of FGJ?)
IV stronger bowstrings (1200 range for LB)
V inspiring banners, bigger AOE and shorter CD
(VI 1% dmg for each boon)
major
VIII empower allies (
150 power to max 5 allies in range)
X burning arrows -20% recharge on LB, 10% LONGBOW dmg vs burning foes. (=30% dmg from LB)

discipline 2(/3pts) (theoretically could go for 6…)
Minors allow for fast weapon swap and might on swap, which synergises well.
III Warriors Sprint (+25% speed while carrying a melee weapon, also works with spear underwater)
VI signet mastery (never used this while using adrenal health, normally I just stay healthy enough, and run awayt with full health and reejoin the fight a few second later with 1-2k more health…
XI, burst mastery, +7% dmg reduced adrenaline use (more flurries)
XII, increased crit chance based on adrenaline (just more crits, combined with blademaster (arms VIII) at full adrenaline it’s +25% crit chance….

all these things can be useed to great effect in a S/S LB build

[Suggestion] Fix for condition cap

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

it sounds nice but…

I have several skills that deal bleeding on my S/S & LB warrior:
Sever Artery: 1st/ 12 sec base (sword auto)
Gash: 1st/ 12 sec base (sword auto)
Riposte: 4st/ 16 sec base (sword #5)
Flurry: 8st/12st/16st stacks for 3 sec base (depending on adrenaline) (burst skill)
Pin down: 6 st 18 sec base (longbow #5)
Precise strikes: 33% chance on crit: 4.5 seconds (no cooldown) (trait)

I alrady have torment (sword #4), cripple (auto&#2), fire (burst LB, #2), immobilize (LB #5 and Burst sword), blindness (LB #4) and vulnerability (traited) as additional conditions. without using my utility skills…

Sigils
Earth …
Geomancy …

How would you want to compress this? without dropping warrior DOT to much?

I have 1170 condition dmg, which I can modify with
- A banner (strength 170 condi and power)
- food (tuning crystals, or normal foods)
- food wich lengthens DOT (toxic tuning or toxic sharpening stones / koi cakes or pizza)
- WvW the stacks influence, and I sometimes use stacking sigils and / or bursting.
All these I could calculate but:
- might (
variable but max 875 condi & strength), (changes rapidly and often)
is a problem… as it can chenge on a second by second base.

Warriors can easily fill 25 stacks of bleeding…alone.

+33% is still the slowest maximum speed in any MMO aside from GW1, and that’s the maximum speed of most classes aside from a few very short bursts of speed for Engineer and Ele.

Quit acting like swiftness is enough to make up for the fact that Silverwastes has 1 waypoint.

Why are you so obsessed about the supposed lack of speed. You need to run 45, maybe 90 seconds to a fortress? It doesn’t matter… If everybody could do all bosses at the same time, because of waypoints, it wouldn’t be challenging anymore now would it?

If you need too run to often I’d suggest you’d invest in a build which allows for some more survivability… I have been there on my dagger dagger thief, and been there on my pvt warrior one tends to stay alive very well…

And it’s about defending fortresses, till you get the breach, then killing your boss underneath your fortress. Not running around just to kill as much bosses as possible…
If you need 4 bosses switch 4 times after they spawned, same for the legendaries. Why do people just want to play 10 minutes and be finished already?….

As long as you stay alive the maps the drops and the achievemnts tend to be very easy 2, maybe 3 hours tops.

33% is to make sure other parts of the game stay balanced, the developers want the game to be transparant in all fields of play. Which tends to be true for everything except confusion…

If a thing actually needs additional speed they’ll find a way, (aspect crystals in drytop or platforms near tequatl).

another example, the Ulgoth event in Harathi Hinterlands. Unless you show up an hour early, the “closest” waypoint is halfway across the zone. It’s really annoying running through all that trash with ranged attacks putting you in combat so that you run even slower.

or Orr, where many waypoints are constantly contested

Waypoints are supposed to be the rational reason why we do not have mounts. If that’s the case, then waypoint travel coverage needs to be adequate. If anet tries to take away adequate waypoint travel, then they should give us mounts or permanent (can only be initiated out of combat) speed boosts comparable to mount speed (about +66%, so double the effectiveness of swiftness would work). Spending more than about 15-20 seconds running through trash is about where I feel that I’m wasting time and not enjoying what I’m doing. I don’t play this game to wade through garbage solo.

Wading through garbage solo isn’t fun or engaging it’s not exploring since I’ve already been through the zone top to bottom multiple times by now, it’s mostly just going through the motions, annoying and boring.

In orr closed waypoints show where you need to go if you want to do temple events, I missed them quite a few times, but if you follow the map chat often the pre events are linked way before time. and the actual “UP” of the boss shows only the end of a series of events, If you only seek those out you seem to focus a lot on leeching…

When Ulgoth starts the closes waypoint gets unlocked as well, that’s after the area was secured, leaving at least the dogs and the earth elemental hands before the actual Ulgoth, those events take several minutes, enough to run a big portion of the Hirathi map if neccesary….

And no, there is still no reson for more WP’s in the Silverwastes, unless you want to farm bosses. Understand it’s good some things take time, playing games is a passtime, something to fill your free time, if it takes no time and needs to be finished it seems more like a chore or work to me…. And grinds& farms take time… it’s because most people try to do the things for fun at leisure and therefore games cater for leisure. It is not you are paying for your time in gw2…

I could imagine if you pay a monthly fee you’d actually benefit from mounts due to more game experience because you can travel further before your game time runs out, but in gw2 this isn’t relevant.

The zerker meta and how to change it.

in Profession Balance

Posted by: PaxTheGreatOne.9472

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

The current meta isn’t about dmg, the current meta is just :

Make sure you get no damage.

This requires a bit of knowledge about mechanics.
1 you need to learn to dodge (do not doubledodge, only dodge when needed)
2 know attacks and reflects
even though reflects have been nerfed, they are a very good source of dmg. and damage negation (which is the priority)
3 use blinds & aegis, these 2 cmbined with dodges allow for damageless play, blinds =miss, aegis is miss even on hit, dodges could prevent dmg if both are not there
4 Conditions can make a for a problem,if an AOE attack HITS… you’ll sustain DOT
and you need to remove the condition. but we were not hit. we can blind/and dodge
5 If you get no dmg at all why would you spec in vitality, if you do not get hit you could survive with 1 HP, same reason armor is useless. Or Healing…
6 Condition dmg could be usefull but conditions have caps in place so they are negated after a stack is full still if 1 person could focus whole or completely on conditions conditions could make life easier
-blinds = primary source of no dmg
-weakness = 50% fumbles (-50%dmg on hit), no crits from enemies, dmg reduction
-poison = less healing effectiveness (-33% health gained on heal)
-frozen = -66 movement, +66% skill recharge lowering enemy DPS by 40%
-confusion = dmg on attack…
-fire = DMG
-bleeds =DMG
-torment=DMG
7 BOONS
interesting as they are a big part of your survivability:
Stability: Prevents fear, knockdown, daze, stun so you can keep your rotations up. If your enemy cannot disable you this is useless.
Aegis: blocks the next attack (any attack)
Protection: -33% dmg received from direct dmg.
Might: additional DPS and DOT
Fury: +20% crit chance, generally boosts dps
Vigor: additional endurance boost: more dodges
Swiftness: faster skipping of trash
Retaliation looks nice but we try to not get hit, so it wil be useless, but if you do get hit: you’ll do some dmg against your enemy. The amount is low if not useless, reflects are way better… scales very bad with power.
Quickness 150% attackspeed and recharge

SO in the end interesting stats could be:
for dps
power: the modifier on whcih your physical dmg scales
precision: chance of critting, critical being150% of a normal attack modified by ferocity
ferocity: improves how far yourcritical dmg will scale
condition dmg: the modifer on which your condition dmg scales (dmg)
condition duration: lengthens conditions when applied (uptime)

less interesting:
boon duration could provide a source of dmg mitigation…. but does no actual additional dmg all others above do….
Healing power: increases aount of hitpoints regained when healing, countered by poison
Armor: mitigates physical dmg useless vs conditions
Vitality: gives more hit points…

Healing power synergizes with armor. As armor reduces incoming dmg and healing power increases healing.
Vitality’s only function is to make sure you die a second later allowing for a bit more time to trigger a healing skill, vitality buys a bit of time, but you need a lot more healing power to regain the same % of hitpoints when having a high vitality…

Put in order of DPS usefullness:
power
precision
ferocity

boon duration
toughness
healing
vitality.

in order condition dmg usefullness
condition dmg & power
precision

condition duration (& ferocity)
toughness
healing power
boon duration
vitality

In the end a DOT (DAMAGE OVER TIME) or Condi character will get hampered by an extremely fast kill, as damage over time needs TIME to be effective; so a party of 5 DPS-ers will generally outdmg a 4DPS, 1DOT or 4DPS, 1 Hybrid set, though the latter 2 wil actually see benefit in vey long fights as the enemy will suffer secondary effects while suffering conditions as well…

Best set of boons and conditions for dmg mitigation:
Blinds/aegis/chill/protection/weakness/vigor//poison

Best set of boons and conditions for dmg
Might/fury/fire/bleeds/poison/torment/confusion/retaliation

In the end I’d think a group of 4 guardians (zerk) and 1 necro(zerk/sinister) should give the best dps and uptime. but that’s just my 2 cents.

Zerk is King as it delivers most DPS, more then any DOT players could even do if no cap existed…

Nothing will change this untill dodges are nerfed (say 25% dmg taken on a succeful dodge, utilities are nerfed (allowing more dmg to be taken) and conditions are nerfed (allowing more dmg to be taken)but get additional dmg delivered to the enemy.

Within this meta all non offensive stats tend to fade, as is condition duration, as it has no viable armor stat combo’s/ weapon combo’s.
And an ultra tank (nomad or sentinel) will always be destroyed by DOT… leaving only a little window for conditions if paths would contain 1 tanky boss…

Please Cap Loot! (Controversial Suggestion)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

PaxTheGreatOne.9472

I got 146 slots on 11 of my characters, 18-36 slots are used for addional armors on avg…
Leaving me 110+ slots on charcters. others: 2 have 148and 2 have 125…

cleaning them out with a copper fed salage-o-matic is fast and trouble free. with standard 25 uses kits it tend to be abit annoying but just bring a couple, and you have some usefull salvage capabilitie as well… else you are left with another great option: Mystic salvage kits. 250 uses, mostly suited for rares and exotics. but generally helpfull, though minor sigils and runes tend to stack up fast…

Oh and the occasional farm can be VERY useful to get some needed t6/ecto/asc crafting mats or plain karma and exp. as there are as many farms as there are types of loot…

GL! ( oh and you’ll need those farms if you’d ever want to make more then 1 legendary…
250 t6 costs 150 gold minimaly and you tend to need 7 stacks and astack of ecto’s and dust as well so make that 1200 gold just for the mats for the 2 always required gifts…

It can be earned in 100 days of dungenon farms or in a few weeks of hardcore farmin in usefull spots. then a precursor… well 400-1100 additional gold… think about it….

Oh and I tend to be a hesitant farmer… I cannot no-life but I generally notic I made a good score.

First: There is a difference between making a magic carpet and automating a sit emote on it or making an animated horse or whatever and fitting it to asuran/ human and norn sizes and the rebuilding it totally for charr…
I do think the amount of effort for some eyecandy should be examined.

Second: no speedboosts, as it is unfair to other players even if you’re just running, you could be first at the next battle/event/boss by using your +50% speed mount and others wil have less time to tag join in because you have your speedbuff in a stable/shed whatever. Which is unfair. Keep it at waypoint use. I know my mesmer is slow. I understand it and factor it in. If I want to go do events I tend another charater, not a mesmer. all others tend to move as well as others, and when I do want to be on my mesmer I ask a friend on a guardian or ele. (or more)
If you’d say well but I only have a mesmer and it’s to slow: Well imagine all others had mounts and you couldn’t do anything anymore…

3rd Speedboosts are not needed in mount packages. there are more ways of getting speedboosts then is allowed to write within 5000 characters if you list ’m.

4th The fact people do not want mounts in the game is mostly practical, the reasons why they should come in the game are not. There is plenty to collect, and if you have everything because you are the best TP-Flipper in Tyria: well sorry you made your own game so boring you now need to ask for mounts.

5th I’m not against mounts per se. I’m not for mounts either. I tend to find myself fairly neutral, and if I look at it, it shows most people wanting mounts because it is somthing available in other games…
I just have one comment: Well I’m playing THIS game and I like it. No need for clones and rip-offs..

6th combat mounts are out of the question. period (at least to collect, ingame using the scorps in eotm, no problkem, siege devourers: no problem, Junundu? no problem…)

7th any mounts outside normal earnable event’s (badges or something) are out of the question. I pity the fool who wanted mounts and after 2 years doing the event he neede to lucky at STILL had no mount due to RNG.

8th Why can’t “Mount” be a word for the spam filter, It would save a lot of annoyance.
“Well I want to ride a kitten because I like it?”
Hmmm… that sounds wrong…. Maybe I found my answer to #8….

Like so many other things in this game, waypoints are illogical. Each waypoint is part of a network of waypoints, all interconnected, but one can only travel to the waypoints one has personally discovered. How does that make sense? Why should one have to find a specific waypoint before one can use it? That’s like getting on a bus (or train or plane) at Point A, but you can’t ride to Point K because you haven’t been there yet. An intelligent ettin would knock himself out shaking his heads at this nonsense.

I submit to you, fellow forumites, that waypoints, as implemented, were a mistake that render any semblance of exploration in this game pointless and silly. You’re not exploring if someone has been there before you and installed a waypoint! Even in Orr, where deadly danger lurks every two, maybe three steps, someone was there before you — and installed waypoints! Which you can’t use until you personally discover them. Ahem.

Here we are, though, at a potential crossroads. The much-maligned Living World offers anet an ironically ironic chance to rectify this bizarre situation. How? It has given us an enemy that can reach out and destroy waypoints! Thus, they could have Ol’ Mordy wipe out up to 99% of all waypoints, everywhere, and thereby give us all a renewed sense of exploratory purpose. Not to mention adventure! “We’ve lost contact with some place or other. What’s going on there? What’s out there now? We must go see!”

But, you may ask, without waypoints, how ever shall we expediently get where we’re going? What if, for instance, according to the handy boss timer or whatever method is in use now, it’s Teakettle time! And I have no time to lose trying to get there, lest I be shunted into an alternate dimension of sight and sound and mind and miss my chance at loot! How? How? How shall I get there? Must I walk? Jog? Skip merrily?

Heck, no! That’s ridiculous. And not very verisimilitudinous. People, whether human, charr, asura, or sylvari, (or largos or tengu hint hint) are like electricity in that, on the whole, they will seek the path of least resistance. That’s why we have all these silly waypoints! Laziness, you see, is the foundation of Civilization everywhere. Without it, there would be no innovation, no discovery, no progress. Which at last brings us to the point: in a world without waypoints, to get where we want to go…

We would ride! Swift sure-footed (wheeled, clawed, etc.) steeds of muscle and bone or steel and chrome or something else entirely! Decorated according to our individual stylistic tastes or lack thereof!

/e mount rears, whinnies (or whatever) and gallops (rolls, clanks, slithers, or whatever) into the sunset (unless we’re heading some direction other than west).

You’re welcome!

/e bow

Disclaimer: eventually, of course, whoever established the waypoint system in the first place will try to re-establish it. Maybe, though, it won’t be so easy this time around…

PS: bloodstone dust for ascended horseshoes/tires/saddlebags?

Maybe waypoints and portals are illogical, but is the lore. Asura transportation for the win! in gw1 they were used for coninent to coninent travel, now they have finetuned the system.

/e walks off in the distance adored by dolyaks, moas, and other critters who know and show they’re happy someone stood up for them!

Oth and as an afterthought I’d love it if mordremoth destroys 50-80% of all waypoints and we get nothing as compensation, the maps will be thriving with life. And still the animals will celebrate my being their spokes(wo)man, and adore me every step I take, maybe not in Orr, but then again, I do not need a risen thrall as mount.

I salute thee mount-lovers, and must compare you with the necrid horsemen of ages gone by!

Mounts with speedboost = NO
Mounts for faster exploration = NO
Mounts for purely the fact mounts should be there = NO
Mounts in pvp (wvw) = NO!!!!!
Mounts without reason = NO
Mounts without a use = NO
Differences between Mounts with regard to speed or utility = NOOOO WAY!

Mounts for faster exploration of waypoints is probably the most rediculous answer I seen yet.
Either unlock speed skills/traits/weapons or buy/use a speedbooster or use food which gives a sugar rush.. and save the world of tyria and her deveklopers a lot of investment in stuff you will not need in the future…

I wouldn’t mind a travelling companion (sort of BIG mini) or even an actual mount But it should fit in the lore…

I remember something in gw lore saying only te most despicable enemies of the civilized world tamed animals for riding. The Stone Summit (a faction of dwarves) enslaved dolyaks to ride them into battle.

I can understand tanks, vehicles, helicopters and golems with respect to lore.
But moa’s, dolyaks, marmoxes, bulls and so on seem invalidated.
But to invalidate my point there are siege devourers (used by the Charr, who where enemies of the world as well; at least in gw1) and Junundu wurms …
